This week pour yourself a pint of Victoria Bitter and join us in welcoming back the CEO of Aussie Pub Rock: Craig Elvin! This time he's with us live on American soil, so we decided to play a special version of the drinking game we call, “WILD CARD”! Robert and Craig go head-to-head in a game where they try to get points by naming the obscure band that is being played. Of course, we made it more interesting by adding an Aussie twist. This is a heated 10-song battle, so you can only imagine the state our players were in by the end! What is it that we do here at InObscuria? Besides conducting ridiculous game shows, we exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. In this episode we take a listen to all 3, as we let our contestants pick a randomly obscure song by the decade in which it was released from a creatively curated playlist. Our good friend Jeremy has been in bands with your hosts; and is an amazing guitarist and all-around music aficionado.Songs this week include:Heavy Pettin' – “In And Out Of Love” from Lettin' Loose (1983) Fair Game – “Keep It Up” from Beauty & The Beast (1991) Thunder Fox – “Every Single Day” from Love At First Sniff (2019) Poster Children – “Dynamite Chair” from Tool Of The Man (1993) Flickertail – “Right Behind The Eyes” from Right Behind The Eyes - single (2019) Thundermother – “Racing On Main Street” from Thundermother (2018) Truck – “Unconventionally Rising” from Exploring The Wah (2022) Royal Crescent Mob – “Mob's Revenge” from Omerta (1987) Dead City Ruins – “In And Out Of Love” from Shockwave (2022) Fishbone – “In The Cube” from Chim Chim's Badass Revenge (1996) Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/inobscuria/og-shopCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

Episode #21 - Young Einstein Albert Einstein is a young apple farmer from Tasmania who discovers how to split the atom in order to get bubbles into beer. He then travels to... you know what? It doesn't matter. This movie is ridiculous. It gets history so wrong its not even funny. Its insulting actually. At one point some guy tries to cook a pie full of kittens. Anyway, listen to Adam and Tara talk about what a disaster this movie. Towards the end Adam just starts talking about movies focused on male genitalia and truthfully it would have made a better episode. With special guest Alex Parkinson, Anna and Derek discuss Yahoo Serious as an auteur director, whether Charles Darwin would understand physics and much more during their deep dive into the Australian fantastical comedy Young Einstein (1988). The idea for the podcast came when they realized just how much they talk – a lot – when watching films from their favorite cinematic era. Their wedding theme was “a light nod to the ‘80s,” so there's that, too. Both hail from the Midwest but have called Los Angeles home for several years now. Anna is a writer who received her B.A. in Film/Video from Columbia College Chicago and M.A. in Film Studies from Chapman University. Her dark comedy short She Had It Coming was an Official Selection of 25 film festivals with several awards won for it among them. Derek is an attorney who also likes movies. It is a point of pride that most of their podcast episodes are longer than the movies they cover.Alex Parkinson is an Atlanta-based, Australian-born and British-groomed actor, writer, and director. He's made recent screen appearances in Black Adam, The Wonder Years, A Jazzman's Blues and Stranger Things. Alex has written, directed, and starred in dozens of comedy short films, including the nine-part web series Julian Assange's Embassy Suite, which he also created, and the multi award-winning MAMILs – now the feature script Ride or Die – and Ring Fingered. He is represented by Houghton Talent and Brilliant Talent Management.
RobChrisRob aligned their chakras to talk about new ads showing up in Windows 11, who could imagine that annoying people? Next we talked a little about the layoffs at Facebook, and that led us into a talking about a slew of troubles going down at Facebook. We talked about the breakthrough addition of lady crash test dummies because unbelievably, nobody did that already... we talked about recreating classic computer screens from Alien, Jurassic Park, Wargames and other classic films, KFC doing an embarassing oopsy, the CIA disguise expert working to help disfigured people, Hellraiser Puzzleboxes as a stem learning tool, Young Einstein, Wakanda Forever, and Jenni Nicholson's 4 hour video on the Evermore Theme Park which was unsurprisingly another great watch.

On this episode, we discuss one of the biggest hit films ever in Australian cinema, that was pretty much ignored in the rest of the world, Yahoo Serious' Young Einstein. ----more---- Yes, you read that right. Yahoo Serious was the name of the director of Young Einstein. And its main star. And it's co-writer, co-producer, supervising editor, and he even wrote and sang a song or two on the soundtrack. A true modern renaissance man. We also have a brief history of Australian cinema, the 1970s New Wave of filmmakers like Gillian Anderson, Bruce Beresford, George Miller and Peter Weir who would put Australia on the global cinematic map once and for all, and a scrappy art school student would make, and then remake, himself and his debut movie.

This is a rare movie, rare in terms that no one knows about it! Its a satire/fictional story about the life of Albert Einstein, they really went for it in this one. If you don't recognize the name Yahoo Serious then you are not alone. This movie was a staple of early morning HBO in the 90s and then faded into obscurity. Just let me hear some of that rock n' roll music! - Dad, I wanna be a physicist. - What do they grow son? - They don't grow anything. - Well what's the use of them then? In the 1980s and 1990s, people from all over the globe would come to experience the culture and see the sights of Australia – from the Outback to the Great Barrier Reef and everything inbetween. As a young American, I myself, had a total fascination with Australia, thanks to films like Young Einstein and Crocodile Dundee… I was about 13 when these films were out and like so many others, I became obsessed and wore various shades of tan and khaki to live out my fantasies, but that was as far as my journey to Australia ever took me… to this day I’ve still never been. This free-spirited backpacker culture, allowed some of the people who embarked on their journies, to take once-in-a-lifetime adventures, to meet new people, to make new friendships and to gain valuable life experiences that one can typically only get when they are young -- before the disparaging side of life sets in -- and we become confined to work, kids and the demands of life. This was a time when young people in particular, could come and enjoy the carefree, nomadic lifestyle of backpacking, going with the flow, staying in hostels and not having any ties to responsibility until there was a need to make a little money for the next stop. This was supposed to be just that kind of special time for the victims in this eposide, who were, by all accounts, trusting people who who loved life and were eager to live them. Instead it turned into a nightmare beyond imagination for them and left the hearts of their families and friends broken forever. The 1990’s were the last time things would still be simple – a sort of twilight in time where a person could go do what they wanted and they weren’t tracable like today – it seems like it was forever ago. The distractions of today were only a futuristic fantasy, seen on shows like Star Trek or the Twilight Zone. There of course, was no such thing as google maps or the internet as we know it today to tell you where to go – no yelp to tell you where to stay away from, and naturally, there was no such thing as an affordable cell phone plan or an app to allow the tracking of your friends…. no texting and often times weeks would go by before family would hear from their loved ones traveling abroad, that they were safe. Sometimes travelers would be in such remote areas that they communicated only through the mail and checked their post offices only as they were passing back through. If something was wrong it could be a while before people knew, and this set the perfect backdrop for Australias worst serial killer. Since nobody knew differently, and this was the way people communicated, generally, this was accepted and while most parents didn’t love the idea of gaps in time where they didn’t hear from their kids most trusted their children and understood that they were broadening their horizons. Since there was no such thing as a cell phone yet, it was just the times we lived in. People often relied on recomendations from others - word of mouth was the best way to discover things and information that was passed along by people with like interests. One way that foreign travelers would get around was to hitchhike – which, at the time, was considered safe and widely practiced. So much so that there were books and guides published by experienced travelers for those who were unfamiliar with the resources to travel more economically. People regarded backpacking in Australia as safe, and the people friendly, however, during the years between 1989 and 1992, that would all change and travel would not ever be the same again. Australia would now be seen as a treacherous place where people go missing and sometimes turn up murdered. In this episode of Homicide Worldwide, we will discuss what drove Ivan Milat to commit such heinous&

The Lime Spiders with Mick Blood with David Eastaugh Lime Spiders were an Australian punk rock band which formed in 1979 with Mick Blood on lead vocals. He was later joined by Tony Bambach on bass guitar, Gerard Corben on guitar, Richard Lawson on drums, and David Sparks on guitar. Their debut studio album, The Cave Comes Alive! was released in June 1987 and reached the top 60 on the Kent Music Report Albums Chart. Their most successful single, "Weirdo Libido", was released in January that year and reached the top 50 on the related Kent Music Report Singles Chart. In April its music video was the first ever shown on Australian Broadcasting Corporation TV music series rage. The track was used on the 1988 feature film Young Einstein's soundtrack. The group disbanded in 1990 and in 1999 Australian musicologist, Ian McFarlane, noted they had provided "raucous sound mixed screaming vocals and wild, fuzz-tone guitar riffs to arrive at a mutant strain of acid punk that bordered on heavy metal". Lead singer Mick Blood still performs Lime Spiders songs with session musicians, these are essentially Mick Blood solo performances.

William and Ralph were Irish-American brothers who immigrated from New York to Melbourne, Australia in 1886. Three years later they were producing their first beers for local consumption, and three years after that their brew became the first Australian beer export, sent to South Africa to bolster the spirits of the young men fighting in the Boer Wars. Shortly thereafter their brewery consolidated with Carlton & United Breweries who continued producing the brothers’ beer exclusively for sale in bottles, the only way it would be available until 1958 when it was first sold in cans. For most of that time today’s beer was the flagship beverage in the CUB line, until the early 1970s when it began to be exported to Britain and the United States. Through the 1980s CUB shifted the brand’s marketing and sales focus overseas, till by the 21st century it was almost impossible to find in Australia, but had become the second most popular beer in the United Kingdom. This growth was in no small part possible because of the craze for all things Australian in North America and Europe during the 1980s and 1990s, a craze fed by the Crocodile Dundee series of films, by Quigley Down Under, by the Mad Max films, Cheech Marin’s masterpiece Shrimp on the Barbie, and my personal favorite product of Australia, Yahoo Serious’ masterpiece Young Einstein. Today’s beer, however, finds itself in legal trouble over one little thing. Despite advertising itself as “Australian for beer,” only a small proportion of its output is actually brewed in the great Southern Continent and even less of it is consumed there. In Britain, its largest market, it is actually brewed in Manchester, while in the United States the quaff bubbles out of Fort Worth, Texas or Albany, Georgia, or in some northern climes, is imported from Canada – hell, it is also produced in China, France, Japan, Portugal, India, Ireland, Sweden, Vietnam and, yes, Australia. Now part of Anheuser-Busch InBev, a symbol of Australia barely consumed by Australians, today’s beer is one of the best symbols of globalization’s impact on the beer market, multinationalism in an oil can. That’s right, today on Pickled Eggs & Cold Beer we’re talking about Foster’s Lager. http://www.pickledeggsandcoldbeer.com FYI - Guys, this is a saucy one - normally we aim for about a PG-13 rating, but this one has a little more language than usual, some references to sex, and around 45 repetitions of the enternal punchline "that's what she said." Bear that in mind before listening to this one around whippersnappers or folks who are a bit more sensitive about potty language and naughty thoughts. Cheers!
