Happy Friday Family!! We hope that your day is off to an amazing start. If you had the opportunity to check out our preview clip yesterday on our IG Social Media Handle, then you already know that our Cohost Kennedy is dropping too many gems not to hold onto during our new episode, “It's Not Them– It's YOU”! This week we are creating space centered around accountability and pure self-reflection. We are affirming SEASONS where we see the instructions, and we do it GOD'S WAY. We are holding on to the declaration that we are simply the vessel being used.. nothing more, nothing less. And although we may not know what tomorrow looks like for us, we are going to trust that the Lord WILL keep us whole throughout the process. Remember, God doesn't need our help… he simply just needs our YES, so will you lay it all down and surrender your way for his promise?
In life, there will be numerous times that God will test your obedience. The great thing about walking in obedience is that God will not call you to do what He has not already prepared in advance to provide for you. Join us as we take a look at Genesis 22:1-14 and discover that the Lord WILL provide. #openarms #churchonline #2023 #sermon #onlinechurch Stay Connected: Visit our website - https://openarms.ie/ Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/openarms.ie/ Instagram - https://instagram.com/openarms_church Donate/Give - https://openarms.ie/giving

The Lord WILL come to judge and save; be ready by trusting and obeying the Lord Jesus Christ.
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the justice of all who are oppressed. Speak up and judge righteously; defend the rights of the afflicted and needy.” (Proverbs 31:8-9)“Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees, to deprive the poor of my judgment and withhold my justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey and robbing the fatherless." (Isaiah 10:1-2)“Come now, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming upon you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and your silver have rusted, and their rust will be a witness against you and will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have stored up your treasure! Behold! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. You have lived luxuriously on the earth and led a life of wanton pleasure; you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. You have condemned and put to death the righteous man; he does not resist you.” (James 5:1-6)“For I know your transgressions are many, and your sins are great, you who distress the righteous and accept bribes and turn aside the poor in the gate.” (Amos 5:12)“By justice, a king gives a country stability, but those who are greedy for bribes tear it down.” (Proverbs 29:4)“So Samuel spoke all the words of the Lord to the people who had asked of him a king.” (Samuel 8:10)“You will cry out in that day because of your king whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the Lord will not answer you in that day.” “Nevertheless, the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel, and they said, “No, but there shall be a king over us, that we also may be like all the nations, that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.” (Samuel 8:18–20)A voice is calling, “Clear the way for the Lord in the wilderness; Make smooth in the desert a highway for our God. “Let every valley be lifted up, And every mountain and hill be made low; And let the rough ground become a plain, And the rugged terrain a broad valley; Then the glory of the Lord will be revealed, And all flesh will see it together; For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” A voice says, “Call out.” Then he answered, “What shall I call out?” All flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is like the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades, When the breath of the Lord blows upon it; Surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever. (Isaiah 40:3–8)“Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been declared to you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in. He it is who reduces rulers to nothing, Who makes the judges of the earth meaningless. Scarcely have they been planted, Scarcely have they been sown, Scarcely has their stock taken root in the earth, But He merely blows on them, and they wither, And the storm carries them away like stubble. “To whom then will you liken Me That I would be his equal?” says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high And see who has created these stars, The One who leads forth their host by number, He calls them all by name; Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power, Not one of them is missing. Why do you say, O Jacob, and assert, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord, And the justice due me escapes the notice of my God”? Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth Does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might He increases power. Though youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly, Yet those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. Welcome to Revive! In this week's message, we continue to dive deeper into the names of God and the power in His names. This week, we learn about the name of Jehovah Jireh – the Lord WILL provide. Have you ever felt frustrated by God's plans? Oftentimes what we lack can frustrate us, confuse us, or isolate us from the promises of God. If our Lord will provide then why do we still have need? If I believe in God then why am I not already in prosperity, and how can we access God's provision? Although one of the most commonly called upon facets of our God today, Jehovah Jireh is often misunderstood. Through this week's challenging word, Pastor Stephan shows the boundary lines for Jehovah Jireh's provision, and how to prepare the way for Him so that He can move in miraculous ways. When we want to throw down our red flag on the play of life and challenge what God is doing, we've got to remember, there's a resurrection waiting on the other side. Join us as we discover the not-so-hidden workings of our God who meets us in the middle Be Blessed!

"And he answered, “Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary." – Isaiah 40:31
When you are going through severe trials you will likely be tempted to question God's love, wisdom, power, or-justice in what you suffer.--How could God allow this tragedy to happen if He is love, if He is almighty, and if He is fair-- How can God be-all-wise and think that this is good for me-- Where was God when this happened to my loved one----At such times, a very important and life-changing truth has been obscured- hope. We are only looking at our-present pain and heartache. We are only considering our present loss. And it hurts. Wow does it hurt--However, what if God took that pain you have endured and made it a comfort and blessing to you and many-others-- What if that which appeared ugly was made by God into something beautiful beyond imagination---What makes the pain and sorrow of this life so unbearable is a sense of hopelessness. However, add to the-equation that God will make everything beautiful in His own time, we have hope to press on. We can receive-comfort and peace in knowing that God will take that which is ugly and make it beautiful. How it will all come-together, we may not know. But the Lord WILL perfect that which concerns me -Psalm 138-8-.

Message for 12/18/2022 "Holy Spirit Part 3 (Control + Position) by Justin McTeer. *All verses are NLT unless otherwise noted* John 14:15-31 - “If you love me, obey my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn't looking for him and doesn't recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. 18 No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you. 19 Soon the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Since I live, you also will live. 20 When I am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21 Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.” 22 Judas (not Judas Iscariot, but the other disciple with that name) said to him, “Lord, why are you going to reveal yourself only to us and not to the world at large?” 23 Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them. 24 Anyone who doesn't love me will not obey me. And remember, my words are not my own. What I am telling you is from the Father who sent me. 25 I am telling you these things now while I am still with you. 26 But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. 27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don't be troubled or afraid. 28 Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again. If you really loved me, you would be happy that I am going to the Father, who is greater than I am. 29 I have told you these things before they happen so that when they do happen, you will believe. 30 “I don't have much more time to talk to you, because the ruler of this world approaches. He has no power over me, 31 but I will do what the Father requires of me, so that the world will know that I love the Father. Come, let's be going. Need + Let Experience + Ask Control + Position Control Acts 2:1-6 - On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. 2 Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. 3 Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. 4 And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages,[b] as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. 5 At that time there were devout Jews from every nation living in Jerusalem. 6 When they heard the loud noise, everyone came running, and they were bewildered to hear their own languages being spoken by the believers. Acts 2:41 - Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all. Acts 8:9-24 - A man named Simon had been a sorcerer there for many years, amazing the people of Samaria and claiming to be someone great. 10 Everyone, from the least to the greatest, often spoke of him as “the Great One—the Power of God.” 11 They listened closely to him because for a long time he had astounded them with his magic. 12 But now the people believed Philip's message of Good News concerning the Kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ. As a result, many men and women were baptized. 13 Then Simon himself believed and was baptized. He began following Philip wherever he went, and he was amazed by the signs and great miracles Philip performed. 14 When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that the people of Samaria had accepted God's message, they sent Peter and John there. 15 As soon as they arrived, they prayed for these new believers to receive the Holy Spirit. 16 The Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them, for they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then Peter and John laid their hands upon these believers, and they received the Holy Spirit. 18 When Simon saw that the Spirit was given when the apostles laid their hands on people, he offered them money to buy this power. 19 “Let me have this power, too,” he exclaimed, “so that when I lay my hands on people, they will receive the Holy Spirit!” 20 But Peter replied, “May your money be destroyed with you for thinking God's gift can be bought! 21 You can have no part in this, for your heart is not right with God. 22 Repent of your wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive your evil thoughts, 23 for I can see that you are full of bitter jealousy and are held captive by sin.” 24 “Pray to the Lord for me,” Simon exclaimed, “that these terrible things you've said won't happen to me!” Position Isaiah 40:31 NASB - Yet those who for the Lord Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. Isaiah 40:31 NIV - but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Matthew 18:20 - For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.” Mark 13:11 - But when you are arrested and stand trial, don't worry in advance about what to say. Just say what God tells you at that time, for it is not you who will be speaking, but the Holy Spirit.

Lesson 46 Part 1 They made it. The Hebrews led by Moses by the hand of Yahvay, the Lord, finally arrive at the Mountain of God. Here they will receive the Ten Commandments which the Lord says is His Covenant as we read … Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel." So he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did not eat bread or drink water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments. (Exo 34:27-28) Israel comes to the Mountain of God in the Sinai and there they will enter a New Covenant - nothing like this ever happened before – and become a chosen people, a holy nation, and nation of priests. But, wait a minute, that sounds so familiar. It reminds us of Jesus and His lifting up His cup at His Last Supper – the cup of the New Covenant. This happens in Jerusalem. There's more. It so happens that the Mountain of God was Mt. Sinai as can be found in Exod. 3:1 and 3:12 and 19:1-3. We got this. No problem. But then we see that God moves His mountain to a new location. Just consider a few proof texts … Now it will come about that In the last days The mountain of the house of the LORD Will be established as the chief of the mountains, And will be raised above the hills; And all the nations will stream to it. And many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; That He may teach us concerning His ways And that we may walk in His paths." For the law will go forth from Zion And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. (Isa 2:2-3) "I will set a sign among them and will send survivors from them to the nations: Tarshish, Put, Lud, Meshech, Tubal and Javan, to the distant coastlands that have neither heard My fame nor seen My glory. And they will declare My glory among the nations. "Then they shall bring all your brethren from all the nations as a grain offering to the LORD, on horses, in chariots, in litters, on mules and on camels, to My holy mountain Jerusalem," says the LORD, "just as the sons of Israel bring their grain offering in a clean vessel to the house of the LORD. (Isa 66:19-20) And it will come about in the last days That the mountain of the house of the LORD Will be established as the chief of the mountains. It will be raised above the hills, And the peoples will stream to it. Many nations will come and say, "Come and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD And to the house of the God of Jacob, That He may teach us about His ways And that we may walk in His paths." For from Zion will go forth the law, Even the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. (Mic 4:1-2) He moved His mountain. It is now the Temple Mount in Jerusalem also known as Mt. Zion. (The term Mount Zion has been used in the Hebrew Bible first for the City of David (2 Samuel 5:7, 1 Chronicles 11:5; 1 Kings 8:1, 2 Chronicles 5:2) and later for the Temple Mount, but its meaning has shifted and it is now used as the name of ancient Jerusalem's Western Hill) And, this is where the New Covenant of God is given through Yeshua HaMashiach, Yeshua the Messiah, Jesus the Christ. On top of that we read the following … But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; (1Pe 2:9) Wow. What an amazing connection between the New Covenant at the Mountain of God Mt. Sinai and the New Covenant at the Mountain of God Mt. Zion - a Biblical name for the Temple Mount. God is connecting these covenants. He is not replacing the latter with the former. They are intimately related and you can not have on New Covenant without the other. Is there more? You won't believe it. This is another awesome chapter in Torah that meets the goals of this podcast series. Here are those goals. (Note - you can "right click" on the picture and open the picture in a new tab to read it) So come and join us in this study. This is another awesome example that there is ONE book, ONE Bible, from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21, ONE God, ONE Lord, with ONE goal, Jesus! Who is this guy, Rev. Ferret? What's his background? Isaiah 40:31a But those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength…. 3 Keys to Waiting: 1. Wait Actively Isaiah 40:31a But those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength…. Ecclesiastes 4:12 And though one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. 1 Timothy 4:15 Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress. Waiting Time Is Not Wasted Time 2. Wait With Gratefulness Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 3. Wait With Trust 1 Corinthians 13:12 “We can see and understand only a little about God now, as if we were peering at his reflection in a poor mirror; but someday we are going to see him in his completeness, face-to-face. Now all that I know is hazy and blurred, but then I will see everything clearly, just as clearly as God sees into my heart right now.” Prov 19:21 Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails. Isaiah 40:31 But those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength and renew their power; They will lift up their wings like eagles; They will run and not become weary, They will walk and not grow tired. We live in an uncertain world. If we have learned anything over the past few years, nothing is certain. Every single thing we could place our trust in has been shaken. Even our very freedoms that here in the west we take for granted were taken away. In our fallen world, we have seen bedrocks crumble. Things like the family unit, that just a generation or two ago seemed a sure thing, have fallen by the wayside in divorce and broken homes. Financial institutions were safe places to invest and save for the future, only to see retirements gone in a day. Life savings wiped out. Our jobs that just recently were secure and lifelong, are now just a phone call away from unemployment. For some, their businesses have taken a devastating turn where everything looked green and flourishing. Now I'm not getting you on a downer here. I just want to point out that almost everything that we could trust or hope in has failed us at one time or another. But God. Isaiah 40:31 Yet those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. Our God is faithful to us forevermore. He is the absolute bedrock and sure foundation on which our lives are to be built. On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand!
GRACE BIBLE CHURCH GBIBLE.ORG ROBERT MCLAUGHLIN BIBLE MINISTRIES PASTOR ROBERT R. MCLAUGHLIN 04/27/2022 TITLE: DOCTRINE OF KENOSIS; PART 11. THE THREE PARTS OF OUR LORD'S EVIDENCE TESTING. We have been noting the evidence testing of our Lord and how: The three parts of His evidence testing challenged His relationship to: 1. The Holy Spirit; (MAT 4:1-4. 2. The Word of God; (MAT 4:5-7). 3. The plan of God; (MAT 4:8-10). He passed the first test which was to use the Word of God as His divine solution to the temptations of Satan. Matthew 4 records the evidence testing of our Lord, which was the first event in His public ministry. At the outset of His public ministry, He was immediately taken into the desert, alone, to face evidence testing. For in MAT 4:1 we read Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. Three persons were involved in the testing of Christ: the humanity of Christ, the Holy Spirit, and the devil. MAT 4:2 And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry. MAT 4:3 And the tempter came and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God [and you are], command that these stones become bread." Our Lord's temptations to His humanity not only came from outside, but He was tempted by Satan personally as He tried to get our Lord to use His divine nature, MAT 4. Let's take the divine nature. 2PE 1:4 For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, in order that by them you might become partakers of the divine nature. The divine nature of Christ was not able to be tempted because God is immutable and immutability demands that God does not change. God cannot change. Even if we are faithless, He does not change; 2TI 2:13 If we are faithless, He remains faithful; for He cannot deny Himself. In Titus 1:2, we have the confidence of eternal life, from a God, who cannot lie. And here is the motivation that comes from having the God that we do. HEB 6:18 in order that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have strong encouragement, we who have fled for refuge in laying hold of the hope set before us. Also, our Lord as God is sovereign. Sovereignty can do whatever it chooses and would never condone sin. He cannot do anything that would violate His nature. The sovereignty of God cannot change His mind about sin. The perfect righteousness of God cannot be corrupted by sin. The justice of God is cannot be unfair. This is how the temptations of Christ and who He is, is brought out in MAT 4 and also applies to our Doctrine of Kenosis. There are so many principles that theologians have missed concerning kenosis. Why? Because it means such things as: He had human volition but used His volition within the love complex, an absolute place of virtue. JOH 15:10 "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments, and abide in His love. Again before, we see how the Lord handled Satan's temptation in MAT 4:4, remember what Satan said in: MAT 4:3 And the tempter came and said to Him, "Since You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread." Satan, of course, recognizes that Jesus is the Son of God. Satan is a fallen angel, all fallen angels are in eternity. As far as they are concerned the angelic creation is divided and we have the two categories: the elect angels and the fallen angels. Satan is the leader of the fallen angels and they have already fought in eternity and lost, so Satan recognizes that Jesus is the Son of God but obviously it does not save him. He is already in his category for eternity, which is the eternal lake of fire: MAT 25:41. Since we are in the Gospel pf Matthew, look at MAT 25:41 "Then He will also say to those on His left, 'Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; He has had his chance and he is out of the picture now, but it should be noticed that the devil and his angels will end up in the eternal lake of fire. REV 20:10 And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. Satan recognizes that if he can get Jesus to turn stones into bread, even though He is deity [the Son of God], He can act independently of the Holy Spirit. As we have noted, Satan learned the lesson quickly, Jesus cannot be bought for any price. Notice that gall of Satan when he says to our Lord “command” the stones to become bread. Eight points on this first temptation: 1. Jesus is hungry and He has the power to turn stones into bread which would be very simple for the Son of God to do. 2. To turn stones into bread would mean depending upon His own volition and upon His own divine power rather than the power of the indwelling Spirit and the volition and plan of the Father. 3. The relationship of the humanity of Jesus to the indwelling Holy Spirit is under test. 4. Jesus is being tempted to obtain a lawful thing in an unlawful way — apart from the power of the Spirit. 5. Jesus is being tempted as to the sufficiency of the grace of the Father for daily needs. We face the same issue today. The Father's provision is grace. The issue is grace versus legalism. 6. Would Jesus provide food for Himself by turning stones into bread or can He wait for the Father to provide all His needs. He knows that the Father's purpose for Him is to go to the cross and even though He has gone without food for forty days he knows that He will not die until He goes to the cross; that is the Father's plan. The point is: Does He have the patience to wait for the Father's plan to operate or is He going to jump out ahead and not wait upon the Lord? Our Lord knew; ISA 40:31 Yet those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength; They will mount up {with} wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. Issue to us: Do we have the patience to wait for the Father's plan to develop in our lives or do we jump out ahead of it? 7. This introduces the faith-rest issue: Are we going to trust the Father or are we going to do it ourselves? 8. The Father will not permit the humanity of Christ to starve to death because GEN 3:15 and ISA 53 and all of the Levitical offerings tells is how the Savior would die. Now, our Lord Jesus Christ knows the Old Testament. He has been fasting, which means He has been thinking about the Old Testament scriptures, and He knows that there is no scripture that says that Messiah will starve to death; GEN 3:15. Will He believe it or not? Our Lord believed this and that is why He gave the answer that He did in MAT 4. And this has tremendous application to us: Can we depend upon the plan of the Father for our lives or do we have to jump out ahead with human viewpoint? There is just one hitch. If we do not know doctrine you have nothing to believe and you do not have enough faith to operate in the faith-rest technique. This temptation, of course, brings out a tremendous factor: If God doesn't open the door for you tomorrow so that you can see daylight, are you going to fall apart? I told you there are a lot of principles in this doctrine. If you do not see the end from the beginning all you need is to know what the Word has to say and God will provide your daily needs; MAT 6:33-34. Just as He provided the biggest need you ever had, which is salvation, He also will provide the lesser which is logistical grace support; ROM 5:8. Look at ROM 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. ROM 5:9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath {of God} through Him. ROM 5:10 For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved or delivered by His life. All that it requires on your part is the operation of the faith-rest technique and you can have a life of perfect peace and blessing in the midst of the pressures and testing's and trials of life. There is no command for you to fall apart through anxiety. This leads us to our Lord's answer in verse 4 MAT 4:4 But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.'" “He answered” is an aorist active participle, and when you put them together you have an idiom which means He told Satan off. He not only gave him an answer but He gave him a dogmatic answer, an answer which couldn't have had greater power behind it. He simply gave him scripture. For forty days, He had been living on the Word and now He is ready for the devil. Our Lord knew Deuteronomy because He quotes from Deuteronomy and: He gave Satan a dogmatic answer: “It is written” = perfect tense, it is written in the past with the result that it goes on forever. 1PE 1:25 But the word of the Lord abides forever. Now,….. Some of you may be wondering how did our Lord know this passage if it hadn't been written yet by Peter? The answer to that is found in: ISA 40:8 The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever. The passive voice of the verb “it is written,” means that the Bible receives writing from men as the thought content of the Bible comes from God and to us as the mind of Christ; 1CO 2:16. Prin: Victory always comes through the Word. The Word is the object of the faith-rest technique in our passage. The Word is the basis for true spirituality for the Word teaches us to rebound and to live in the Word of God, which is maximum knowledge of doctrine and occupation with Christ. If you do not know the Word, you do not know Christ. “Man shall not live by bread alone” Remember that: Deuteronomy is the book that describes the walk of the people in the land. “Man shall not live” indicates that it takes more than mere survival to be alive, and to be truly alive is to be alive unto God. Our life relationship with God on this earth is through the indwelling Spirit. When Jesus Christ set up the pattern, He had the indwelling Spirit, the filling of the Spirit, and consequently He indicated that just having food, shelter and clothing and the necessities of life isn't living. Man does not truly live apart from relationship to God, and so, man is not going to live by bread alone. The word “alone” means that real life is more than just eating and drinking in the natural realm because it can lead us to the spiritual food of knowing God. You must have the logistics because you must also eat to survive. However: Relationship with the Lord must come first. Food is necessary to sustain physical life, but the sustaining of physical life is meaningless without spiritual life. Five principles on physical and spiritual food. 1. Bread or physical food is necessary for physical life but bread is a mere detail in man's dependence upon God. 2. It isn't the food but the promise which guarantees the food that counts. 3. While bread is necessary to sustain life it is a mere detail in survival. 4. What really sustains the believer is the promises of the Word because food and shelter can be taken away from us in a moment of time but we keep on having the promises of God. However, 5. When the time of testing comes it isn't what is in the Bible that counts, it is what you have taken out of the Bible and transferred into your frontal lobe that counts; both in the mind and the heart. Notice that in the resistance of temptation on the part of our Lord Jesus did not rely upon His deity, He relied upon the Word of God and He resisted this great temptation through the Word of God. This is the principle of divine versus human viewpoint. This leads to the concept that all spiritual victory is directly related to the Word of God, and your ability to have spiritual victory is based upon your understanding of the Word. Therefore, notice our Lord's answer. MAT 4:4 But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.'" A few principles for this first test. 1. Reliance on the Word of God rather than the word of man is the pattern of this victory. 2. All spiritual victory is related to the Word. 3. Jesus never put His own power or His own works above or on a level with obedience to the Father's plan. To rely on the power of the Spirit was the Father's plan for the incarnate Christ, therefore in obedience to the Father's plan He relied upon the power of the Spirit when he used the Word. 4. Jesus found strength, not in performing a miracle, but in the Word of God. 5. Reliance upon God and fulfilling the plan of God depends upon the believer become spiritually self-sustained by feeding on the Word and converting the Word into strength. Just as physical food goes in and is converted into energy so doctrine in the frontal lobe is converted into divine power, orientation to the plan of God. In verses 5-7, we have the second recorded temptation. MAT 4:5 Then the devil *took Him into the holy city; and he had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, MAT 4:6 and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God throw Yourself down; for it is written, #'He will give His angels charge concerning You'; and ' On their hands they will bear You up, Lest You strike Your foot against a stone.” MAT 4:7 Jesus said to him, "On the other hand, it is written, 'You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.'" Since the power is in the Word and since Jesus Christ in His humanity is relying on the Word, Satan tried to pull the power out from under Him. He tried to undermine Him by destroying the Word as the norm. The principles of the second temptation: 1. The second temptation deals with the believer's relationship with the Word. 2. Since Jesus resisted the temptation to act independently of the indwelling Spirit and the power of the Word, Satan attacks the source of resistance which is the Word itself. 3. Satan attacks the Word by quoting the Word, distorting the Word, and using a passage which is not pertinent to the situation. 4. To distort the Word by removing it from its context and interpretation has led astray many sincere and ignorant believers. Sometimes the more sincere the believer the more stupid the believer! In Verse 5, we have the location of the second temptation. MAT 4:5 Then the devil *took Him into the holy city; and he had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, The first word “Then” is an adverb referring to the next temptation with the devil taking Him into the holy city, Jerusalem. Some system of transportation was employed that we are not told about. The “holy city” always refers to Jerusalem in the Bible; “Then the devil took Him into the holy city; and he had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple. The word “pinnacle” is a porch, and the pinnacle of the temple is a wing of the temple which was constructed by Herod the Great. This particular porch is actually 450 feet over the valley of Kidron so they are standing and looking over a cliff which was 450 feet straight down. In Verse 6, we have the temptation. MAT 4:6 and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God throw Yourself down; for it is written, #'He will give His angels charge concerning You'; and ' On {their} hands they will bear You up, Lest You strike Your foot against a stone." Satan is talking to Jesus Christ and he says now to His deity: “Jump.” But….. Deity can't jump because deity is omnipresent and is everywhere. So, it can be seen how the devil is trying to distort things. The command is an aorist active imperative, which means that the devil has the gall to command God Almighty, our Lord Jesus Christ, not only to change stones into bread, but now to jump. Jesus had just said previously that He would live by every word that proceeded out of the mouth of God. He has declared Himself upon the principle that in His humanity He will rely entirely upon the Word of God. This will be the pattern for His Doctrine of Kenosis. So, the devil says in effect that if He is going to rely upon the Word of God, there is no reason why He can't jump off this cliff….. And….. He now quotes a portion of scripture to prove the fact that He ought to jump just to demonstrate that He would live by the Word. “for it is written” = Satan is now quoting Psalm 91:11-12 and He rationalizes that because the deity of Christ can't jump he will go back to the humanity of Christ. The humanity of Christ is going to rely on the Word of God and Satan quotes scripture to imply that He can jump. Notice Satan's distortions: 1. To jump into the valley would violate the law of gravity and our Lord would be tempted by Satan to prove He is God by performing a miracle from His own deity. 2. In his own subtle way, the devil is trying to trick the humanity of Christ into proving His deity by performing a miracle such as jump and have God catch you. Since you are God, Jesus, then prove it --- jump and catch yourself. 3. God does not protect the operation of negative volition in defiance of divine law by using miracles to solve. 4. If someone pushes the Lord over the cliff then the scripture, which the devil quotes, might apply but there is no one else present to do the pushing including the devil, he can't because of the rules of the Angelic Conflict. 5. There is no protection for the one who acts independently of the Word, even when using the Word in a distorted fashion. Remember GEN 3 and the first mention principle. GEN 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, "Indeed, has God said, 'You shall not eat from any tree of the garden'?" GEN 3:2 And the woman said to the serpent, "From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; GEN 3:3 but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat from it or touch it, lest you die.' " GEN 3:4 And the serpent said to the woman, "You surely shall not die! GEN 3:5 "For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." Notice in MAT 4:6 and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God throw Yourself down; for it is written, #'He will give His angels charge concerning You'; and ' On {their} hands they will bear You up, Lest You strike Your foot against a stone." 6. There are times that you could be falling and having been pushed, God would protect you but this is a case of where you do it of your own volition and this passage does not cover suicide. God does not protect from death that believer who tries to commit suicide. Suicide is the superimposition of human volition over divine volition. Suicide the words were added by Satan. Satan added to distort. He could not completely distort this passage without a subtle addition to it. There are times when God's protection are definitely promised. 7. When the believer uses his own volition to operate independently of God's plan, God's Word, or God's law then he is outside of divine protection. God does not protect that believer who tries to commit suicide from death. Suicide is the superimposition of human volition over divine volition. Suicide is the arrogant expression of a person who does not care about others and how their suicide affects them. Suicide is going out as a loser because of selfishness. Arrogance, jealousy, emotionalism, anger, selfishness, and negative decisions tells us that committing suicide is a sin; PSA 31:15 My times are in Thy hand; What Does the Bible Say about Suicide? Christians will not find the word “suicide” in Scripture, but the fact of suicide is seen throughout Scripture is an evidence of the struggle some have with the effects of mankind's fallen nature. The Bible teaches that Satan, the father of lies, comes to steal, kill, and destroy God, on the other hand, God emphasizes the sanctity of life. What Does the Bible Say about Suicide? Christians will not find the word “suicide” in Scripture, but the fact of suicide is seen throughout Scripture is an evidence of the struggle some have with the effects of mankind's fallen nature. Suicide in the Old Testament: 1. Abimelech committed suicide; 2. King Saul; 3. Saul's armor-bearer; 4. Ahithophel, Absalom's counselor; 5. Zimri set himself afire in the king's house; 1KI 16:16-18. There is only one example of suicide. Judas, Jesus' disciple and betrayer, hung himself when he understood he had betrayed “innocent blood” (MAT 27:3-10). There are many reasons why people might commit suicide, and some are not addressed directly in Scripture. For example, A chemical imbalance, causing severe depression, or mental illness may drive people to commit suicide. The Bible teaches that Satan, the father of lies, “was a murderer from the beginning” (JOH 8:44). He comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10a). Satan plants destructive thoughts in people, even Christians, and they may choose to act on Satan's lies and kill themselves. On the other hand, Jesus Christ Gives Life which emphasizes the sanctity of life. Jesus came to give us abundant life and freedom (JOH 10:10b). The Lord doesn't want us to live in fear, but to discover strength and help in Him. ISA 41:10 'Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.' PSA 34:18 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, And saves those who are crushed in spirit. PSA 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous; But the Lord delivers him out of them all. We can cast our cares on the Lord and know He will not condemn us (PSA 55:22; ROM 8:1-2). PSA 55:22 Cast your burden upon the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken. ROM 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. ROM 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. All of us have been made in the image of God and it is extremely important that we understand what that means; GEN 1:26-27. GEN 1:26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." GEN 1:27 And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Therefore, mankind is not allowed to murder anyone, including ourselves (GEN 9:6-7). GEN 9:6 "Whoever sheds man's blood, By man his blood shall be shed, For in the image of God He made man. GEN 9:7 "And as for you, be fruitful and multiply; Populate the earth abundantly and multiply in it." Suicide opposes the natural tendency of humans to preserve their own lives. It is contrary to caring for others, cutting off the potential for loving relationships with family and friends, and is contrary to loving and honoring the Creator. God wants his children to choose life, not death; DEU 30:19 "I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, It is our sovereign God's right to give and take away life; JOB 1:21. JOB 1:21 "Naked I came from my mother's womb, And naked I shall return there. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord." Humans are required to be faithful stewards of the life God gives and the devil is trying to get our Lord to reject that faithfulness from God the Father. Believers are temples of the Holy Spirit and don't belong to themselves. In the New Testament, we learn the Holy Spirit indwells believers and Christians should treat Him with respect; 1CO 6:19. Suicide is not an appropriate response to our problems since suicide dishonors our body and the Lord who created us; 1CO 10:31. Suicide is a rejection of 1CO 10:31 Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Suicide is a rejection of Col 3:17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. God wants us to care for our bodies in the same way Christ cares for the church; EPH 5:29. EPH 5:29 for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, Many New Testament saints and Jesus Himself were tortured and put to death, but they did not commit suicide. Instead, like Paul, they “fought the good fight” of faith until their death (2TI 4:6-8). Nothing can separate true believers from God's love in Christ (ROM 8:38-39; JOH 10:27-30). For the Christian, all sins—past, present, and future—are forgiven through faith in the atoning work of Jesus. For Jesus to jump into the valley of Kidron would have meant certain death for His humanity. 8. It was not the Father's will for Jesus to jump. It was the Father's will for Jesus to die some three years later on the cross. There is a principle behind all this and that is more insidious or subtle than the use of God's Word to get someone to act independently of God. That is the way the woman fell. Back in the garden the woman fell because she added to the Word of God. This goes on all the time and people are constantly misusing the Word of God in order to act independently of the will of God and the plan of God. This is pseudo-spirituality. Satan has used a scripture here that is true but it is not pertinent to the situation. This leads us to the answer of our Lord.

GRACE BIBLE CHURCH GBIBLE.ORG ROBERT MCLAUGHLIN BIBLE MINISTRIES PASTOR ROBERT R. MCLAUGHLIN 04/10/2022 Point 4. The Manifestation of Kenosis in our Lord's Evidence Testing. Matthew chapter four is one of the most important passages in the Word of God from the standpoint of Christology. Christology refers to the study of our Lord Jesus Christ as God and as man. As the apostle Paul said in: PHI 3:8 I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, Now, in MAT 4, notice that: The first ten verses are crucial to understanding not only the gospel but the ministry of Jesus Christ in His Hypostatic Union at the First Advent. Because of this, the best way to extrapolate, which is to take out the principles involved in a passage, is to look at some of the original language of the Greek. MAT 4:1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. Our first verb is: “to be tempted” - the aor-pass-inf of the verb peirazo which means to entice, prove, tempt, to trick. It refers to every point of time when Jesus was tempted during the forty days. The tests will last for forty days and during that time Jesus was constantly tempted by the devil. Only three of the temptations are going to be extracted and recorded because they are unique. The person is unique and the temptations are unique. By the way, here is my conclusion: The person is unique = Hypostatic Union The temptations are unique = Kenosis. Comparing scripture with scripture which is what a pastor is commanded to do, MAR 1:13 adds some more information about this temptation by the devil; Mark tells us that not only was our Lord hungry for forty days but He also lived among wild beasts while angels ministered to Him the Word from God. The wild beasts presented at least two temptations as far as I can see. 1. The temptation to eat them because our Lord was starving. 2. The temptation to fear that they will eat you because the wild beasts are starving. MAR 1:13 And He was in the wilderness forty days being tempted by Satan; and He was with the wild beasts, and the angels were ministering to Him. This is something Matthew did not say. In Fact, Dr. Luke tells us something that Matthew does not record. LUK 4:1-2, And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led about by the Spirit in the wilderness for forty days, then the devil tempted Him In other words; Luke makes it crystal clear that God the Holy Spirit led our Lord every single day whether Satan was attacking or not. Second prin: We know there were 40 days but there were not 40 temptations. Therefore, the question you should ask is: Q. = What did our Lord do when Satan was not attacking? A. He was not going to let His guard down and He is going to prepare even though He just had victory. Notice the order of tests: Mathew records for us the order of Satan's temptations as follows: 1. MAT 4:1-4 – stones into bread 2. MAT 4:5 - pinnacle of the temple, 3. MAT 4:8 – kingdoms of the world. On the other hand, Luke records for us the order of Satan's temptations as follows: 1. LUK 4:1-4 – stones into bread. 2. LUK 4:5 - kingdoms of the world, 3. LUK 4:9 - the pinnacle of the temple. The order is different and the verse to follow is different. The question you should have is why? Why do the order of the temptations differ? Is it because He doesn't want us to be familiar with God's word; PRO 20:25. Is it because God does not want you to put Him in your little self-made box; REV 2:4? Does God want to pluck corn on your sabbath by shaking things up just when your little world was nice and set. (Fish bowl illustration) Or: Does He want us to be disciplined and check things out while being precise in our discoveries; JOH 8:31-32. The answer to that and more is coming up, until then just be patient and wait for the timing of God. In God's time, He will reveal His mysteries, if necessary. Now, remember, this all came from MAT 4:1. Two principles of verse one: 1. After our Lord's victory of accepting the Father's plan through water baptism, He was tested by Satan to use His deity. 2. The believer is always most vulnerable to a defeat immediately after a great victory. Verse 2 — the background of the temptation: MAT 4:2 And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry. Now, things are not always what they appear to be and the fact that Jesus Christ is exceedingly hungry is not simply dieting. Dieting is not fasting. Fasting means to spend the time that ordinarily would be used for normal functions in life in contemplating doctrine and prayer. In other words, the Bible study and prayer is the true concept of fasting. The humanity of Christ spent the time ordinarily devoted to eating and normal surviving, living in prayer and meditating on the Word. Now, in verses 3-11 we have five principles concerning the temptations. 1. The temptation dealt with the problem of relationship with the indwelling Spirit. 2. Jesus was tempted to operate independently of the indwelling Holy Spirit. 3. The temptation was designed by Satan to force Christ to violate the Kenosis principle, to try and force Christ into relying upon His power rather than on the Holy Spirit. 4. This temptation was unique because it involved the power to convert stones into bread and none of us could do that. 5. The principle of this temptation is one that the believer faces every day which is being tempted to rely upon his old sin nature rather than the power of the Holy Spirit. We are tempted to substitute human good for divine good. That is the application. MAT 4:3 And the tempter came and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread." The word “tempter” is a reference to Satan who lives to exalt self and to oppose God; 2TH 2:4. 2TH 2:4 who opposes and exalts himself above every so called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God. Satan's greatest push is to get man to operate independently of God and…… Since there are two kinds of men, the first Adam and the last Adam, there are two ways in which we can operate independently of God. Satan's objective with the unbeliever is to blind him from the cross and salvation. Satan's objective for the believer is to get him to operate in his old sin nature rather than in the power of the Spirit so that the old sin nature will crank out human good. Satan isn't interested in you or me cranking out sin; this hurts his cause. He is interested in your cranking out human good. The devil is not the one who tries to get people to sin; the devil can use people who do not sin, people who are full of human good — do-gooders, religious people. The Devil's greatest trick was convincing the world he doesn't exist. These are the ones that Satan can use. Prin: Religion is the greatest system for getting people to act independently of God; this is the whole purpose behind religion and behind legalism. That is why ever since the cross…. All the devil can do is try to keep the unbeliever from seeing the gospel — he no longer can keep Christ from going to the cross, it is an historical fact. In addition to this, as far as the Christian is concerned; Satan has an objective, not to get the Christian to sin but rather to get the Christian to become self-righteous and religious, and to crank out human good from his old sin nature. Satan himself is not anxious for believers to sin and the fact that sin occurs is not the devil's idea for the way that he thought he could be like God and rule his own world. He would like to prove to God that he can establish an order on this earth which is very moral and very self-righteous and totally independent of God. As Lewis Sperry Chafer said, "A serious question arises whether the presence of gross evil in the world is due to Satan's intention to have it so, or whether it indicates Satan's inability to execute all he has designed. The probability is great that Satan's ambition has led him to undertake more than any creature could ever administer." Lewis Sperry Chafer understood this and also write on 223, volume 4 of his eight-volume set under the title "Warning against False Prophets. He goes on to say: "Beware of false prophets which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits" (MAT 7:15-20). The warning to the children of God under grace is against false teachers who are to be discerned by their doctrine concerning Christ (2Pe 2:1, 2Jo 1:7-11): never by their lives. for outwardly, false teachers are said to be directly under the power of Satan who himself appears as an angel of light (2Co 11:13-15). The attractive personality of the false teacher affords great advantage as a background for the appeal he makes for his doctrine." In MAT 4:3 And the tempter came and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread." “He said, if you are the Son of God [and you are].” The key verb here is the verb “to be” which is translated “you are.” This is where we get the translation of the word “If” into “Since” because the verb is in the first-class condition which says “if and it's true.” Satan, of course, recognizes that Jesus is the Son of God. Satan is a fallen angel and all fallen angels are under condemnation for eternity, both past, present, and future, though they may be free to run around until God makes them a footstool for our Lord's foot. As far as they are concerned the angelic creation is divided and we have the two categories: the elect angels and the fallen angels. Satan is the leader of the fallen angels and they have already fought in eternity and lost so Satan recognizes that Jesus is the Son of God — but obviously it does not save him. He is already in his category for eternity. He has had his chance and he is out of the picture now. So, it should be noticed that angels recognize the deity of Christ. Satan recognizes that if he can get Jesus to turn stones into bread, even though He is deity [the Son of God], He can act independently of the Holy Spirit. There is an appeal to pride here by Satan. He thinks the Lord can be bought with the right circumstances. He thinks everyone has their price. Everyone can be bought! Can you? Can you be bought. Satan learned the lesson quickly that Jesus cannot be bought for any price. Also: Notice the gall of Satan when he says to our Lord “command” the stones to become bread. Some points on this temptation: 1. Jesus is hungry and He has the power to turn stones into bread which would be very simple for the Son of God to do. To turn stones into bread would mean: 2. Depending upon His own volition and upon His own divine power rather than the power of the indwelling Spirit and the volition and plan of the Father. 3. Jesus is being tempted to obtain a lawful thing in an unlawful way — apart from the power of the Spirit. 4. Jesus is being tempted as to the sufficiency of the grace of the Father for His daily needs; MAT 6:33-34. We face the same issue today. The Father's provision is grace. The issue is grace versus legalism. 5. Would Jesus provide food for Himself by turning stones into bread or can He wait for the Father to provide all His needs; ISA 40:31. ISA 40:31 Those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength; They will mount up {with} wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary. He knows that the Father's purpose for Him is to go to the cross even though He has gone without food for forty days. He knows that He will not die until He goes to the cross because that is the Father's plan. The point is: Does He have the patience to wait for the Father's plan to operate or is He going to jump out ahead and not wait upon the Lord? Our Lord knew: PSA 27:14 Wait for the Lord; Be strong, and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord. He knew: PSA 130:5 I wait for the Lord, my soul does wait, and in His word do I hope. PSA 37:34 Wait for the Lord, and keep His way, And He will exalt you to inherit the land; PSA 62:5 My soul, wait in silence for God only, For my hope is from Him. PSA 40:1 “I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.” Issue to us: Do we have the patience to wait for the Father's plan to develop in our lives or do we jump out ahead of it? 6. This introduces the faith-rest issue: Are we going to trust the Father or are we going to do it ourselves? (book) The Father will not permit the humanity of Christ to starve to death because: 7. Gen 3:15 and ISA 53 and all of the Levitical offerings, all tells is something about how the Savior would die. Jesus Christ knows the Old Testament. He knows that anyone who is hung on a tree is under a curse from God; DEU 21:23 for he who is hanged is accursed of God, Because of comparing scripture with scripture our Lord knew certain principles concerning passages in the New Testament. ACT 5:30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you had killed by hanging Him on a tree. GAL 3:13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangs on a tree: 8. He has been fasting, which means He has been thinking about the Old Testament scriptures, and He knows that there is no scripture that says that Messiah will starve to death. Will He believe it or not? This has tremendous application to us: 9. Can we depend upon the plan of the Father for our lives or do we have to jump out ahead with human viewpoint? There is just one hitch, and that is #10. 10. If we do not know doctrine, you have nothing to believe in and you do not have enough faith to operate in the faith-rest technique. This temptation, of course, brings out a tremendous factor: if God doesn't open the door for you tomorrow so that you can see daylight, are you going to fall apart? I told you there are a lot of principles in this doctrine If you do cannot see the end from the beginning, all you need is to know what the Word has to say and God will provide your daily needs; MAT 6:33. Just as He provided the biggest need you ever had, which is salvation, He also will provide the lesser which is logistical grace support. All that it requires on your part is to: Operate in the faith-rest drill and the fantastic peace and blessings that come along with it, in the midst of the pressures, testing's, and trials of life. For a good resource on that you might want to pick up the publication written by our own Cliff Spier entitled: The Christian way of Living, which is an excellent book on getting started getting started with the faith-rest drill. The point is that verse 3, is a command for all of us not to fall apart through anxiety. This leads us to verse 4 MAT 4:4 But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.'" “He answered” is an aorist active participle, and when you put them together you have an idiom which means He told the devil off. He not only gave him an answer but He gave him a dogmatic answer, an answer which couldn't have had greater power. He simply gave him scripture. For forty days He had been living on the Word and He is ready for the devil. Our Lord knew Deuteronomy because He quotes DEU 8:3 and He gave Satan a dogmatic answer: “It is written” in the past with the result that it goes on forever. In other words; The Word of God “lives and abides forever.” As MAT 5:18 says "For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass away from the Law, until all is accomplished.” The passive voice: the Bible receives writing, the thought content of the Bible comes from God and to us as the mind of Christ; 1CO 2:16. This means that victory comes through the Word which is the object of the faith-rest technique and the basis for true spirituality. Living in the Word is maximum knowledge of doctrine and occupation with Christ which can only come through the Word of God which is alive and powerful. If you do not know the Word you do not know Christ; JOH 8:47. “Man shall not live by bread alone” Remember that: Deuteronomy is the book that describes the walk of the people in the land with the phrase: “Man shall not live” indicates that it takes more than mere survival to be truly alive unto God. ROM 6:11 Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. When Jesus Christ set up the pattern for the Church-age believer, He had the indwelling Spirit and He had the filling of the Spirit, both of which He never lost. We lose the filling of the Spirit but we will never lose the indwelling of the Spirit; JOH 14:16 "And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; Another principle concerning Mat 4:4, that man must not live by bread alone, is that: Our Lord indicated to us that just having food, shelter and clothing and the necessities of life isn't living. Man is not living apart from relationship to God and so man is not going to live by bread alone. But….. The word “alone” also adds the spiritual to it because we still all need food in order to survive. Relationship with the Lord must come first, however. Food is necessary to sustain physical life but the sustaining of physical life is meaningless without spiritual life --- because that simply is not living. Here's where we go back to the principle of I.C.E. and note the exegesis or the original language; There are three Greek words for life: bios, psuche, zoe. These words have different meanings. Bios refers to the existence of life Psuche refers to thinking of life as a normal function Zoe refers to the Zoe, the supernatural way of life. The word living here is the word “zoe” which is the life our Lord revealed to us when He handled the temptations that He faced. The zoe life! What is it? Zoe comes from zoology and it means the function of life and here it refers to the super-grace life which is the objective of all doctrine. The objective of doctrine is to take the believer to the super-grace life. The “zoe life” is God's fantastic grace provision which is far beyond even your most fervent prayers. You have never prayed for anything that even comes close to the "zoe life” or the life that God has designed for you. The “zoe life” came from the doctrine of the Hypostatic Union when our Lord as a man operated in the Doctrine of Kenosis. Kenosis was when our Lord revealed the uniqueness of His Hypostatic Union The "zoe life” is God's fantastic grace provision which is far beyond things for which you have asked from others. You ask parents, people, friends, spouses, and children for things throughout your lifetime. However, the "zoe life” or the "life that God has designed for you" is far beyond anything for which you have ever asked from anyone. EPH 3:20 Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, The "zoe life” is also God's fantastic grace provisions which are far beyond your fondest dreams. No matter how wild and seemingly impossible your dreams may be: God has provided something far greater than any thinking or imagination in any dream you have ever had; 1CO 2:9. And what God has provided for the mature believer in the "zoe life” staggers the imagination. The "zoe life” is the direct result of fulfilling the life beyond gnosis or knowledge; EPH 3:19. It's one thing to know something, it's another to experience it. The life beyond gnosis of Eph 3:19 is the means of entering the “zoe life” of Eph 3:20. In the "zoe life,” God does infinitely more than two things stated in Eph 3:20. a. He does infinitely more than all we ask, whether the asking is toward God in prayer, or toward man by request. Secondly b. He does infinitely more than all we think or imagine, which is our personal desires, expectations, and our thoughts associated with happiness symbols. Dreams can represent: What we want to be; What we want to have; With whom we desire to associate; To what we want to be promoted to; Where we desire approval, here applicable, with whom we desire to marry. Dreams carry us to the farthest extent of our imagination. For the Church-age believer, for every member of the royal family of God: There is a "zoe life” which goes beyond anything for which we can ask of anyone, whether God or man. For every Church-age believer, as a member of the body of Christ, there is a life beyond our dreams and our imaginations. This was the type of life our Lord used when He was being tempted by the devil for the Doctrine of Kenosis is the “zoe” type of life.” It is a fantastic life. A life that is in view in Col 3:3 For you have died and your life [that is the zoe-life] has been hidden together with the Christ by means of the God. This is the ultimate life, and it is what God expects for every believer to have. And for this goal, God has made complete and total provision. The provisions come in four spiritual skills. The filling of the Spirit; Metabolized doctrine circulating in the soul; The ten problem solving devices; The execution of the PPOG. Let's note some principles concerning this passage on bread or food in MAT 4. 1. Bread or physical food is necessary for physical life but bread is a mere detail in man's dependence upon God. 2. It isn't the food but the promise which guarantees the food that counts. 3. While bread is necessary to sustain life it is a mere detail in survival. 4. What really sustains the believer is the promises of the Word. Food and shelter can be taken away from us in a moment of time but we keep on having the promises of God. 5. When the time of testing comes it isn't what is in the Bible that counts, it is what you have taken out of the Bible and transferred into your frontal lobe that counts; both in the mind and the heart. He relied upon the Word of God and He resisted this great temptation through the Word of God. This is the principle of divine versus human viewpoint. This leads to the concept that: All spiritual victory is directly related to the Word of God, and your ability to have spiritual victory is based upon your understanding of the Word. 1. Reliance on the Word of God rather than the word of man is the pattern of this victory. 2. All spiritual victory is related to the Word. 3. Jesus never put His own power or His own works above or on a level with obedience to the Father's plan. To rely on the power of the Spirit was the Father's plan for our Lord, therefore in obedience to the Father's plan He relied upon the power of the Spirit when he used the Word of God. 4. Jesus found strength, not in performing a miracle, but in the Word of God. 5. Reliance upon God and fulfilling the plan of God depends upon the believer becoming spiritually self-sustained by feeding on the Word and converting the Word into strength or divine energy or power. 6. Just as physical food goes in and is converted into energy so doctrine in the frontal lobe is converted into divine power — orientation to the plan of God. Pick up Verse 5-7, the second recorded temptation.
Sometimes in life, we have things happen to us that can cause us to become overwhelmed, or maybe stressed out or have some serious anxiety. See, the devil knows that if he can get you overwhelmed and if he can get you stressed out or anxious, he can stop you from fulfilling your purpose in life. My Pastor often says, “Somebody's future won't begin until you walk into it.” (Jim Frease)“Seeing that you are here right now on earth at this time is proof that God saw a problem that only you could solve!” (Jim Frease)Take a second to let that sink in...There is a purpose that you are here on this earth! Now, think about the people around you. How many of them are feeling this way: overwhelmed, stressed out, anxious? It's almost like this is the new pandemic. It seems like so many people are either running away from their problems, giving up, complaining, or blaming everyone around them for what's going on. It seems like so many people these days are in division with one another. Daniel 7:25 says, “And Satan shall speak words against the Most High God and shall wear out the saints.” That verse, when it says, "saints," if you have given your heart to Jesus, it's talking about you. Satan is the one that I's behind the attempt to wear you out…or overwhelm you, or cause you stress and anxiety. So what can we do about it? How do we overcome this overwhelm, this stress, this anxiety? Can we even overcome it? The answer is…yes, you can!Micah 7:7-8. These verses are key for overcoming the overwhelm. “But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; My God will hear me. Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; when I fall, I will arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord WILL be a light to me.”To learn more about how to overcome overwhelm, stress and anxiety, tune into this week's episode of the UncommonTEEN Podcast.Connect with Us! Jonathan, king Saul's son, was PURSUING a Philistine GARRISON. No PROPHET had SPOKEN. He had NO word FROM the LORD to CONFIRM that he WAS going to WIN the battle. He SIMPLY said to HIS armour bearer, 'COME, and let us GO over unto the GARRISON of these UNCIRCUMCISED: it may be THAT the Lord WILL work for us.' Now, this DOESN'T give you LICENCE to go OFF and DO your OWN thing, then ASK that God BACK you UP. Clearly, Jonathan WAS fighting on the SIDE of the Lord's PEOPLE so he KNEW that God WAS with him. But WITHOUT specific, DETAILED direction he STEPPED out on a 'MAYBE.' Did it work? YES. When Jonathan and his armour bearer KILLED twenty of the Philistines, it THREW the opposing FORCE into such CONFUSION that they STARTED killing one ANOTHER, and lsrael CAME out on TOP. Solomon said, 'He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap' (Ecclesiastes 11:4 NKJV). In other WORDS, if you WAIT for the PERFECT conditions you WILL neither ATTEMPT nor ACCOMPLISH anything. Yes, it WOULD be wonderful if God ALWAYS gave us SPECIFIC directions. But OFTEN He LEADS by an IDEA or an impression that begins to GROW inside you, and as it STRENGTHENS and PERSISTS you start to think, 'MAYBE this is what God WANTS me to DO.' We like the GUARANTEED outcome (and income). We are COMFORTABLE with the CERTAIN, absolute deal, with no RISK of failure or LOSS. But you are GOING to FACE a 'maybe' MORE times THAN you will have GUARANTEES. And it's those times of UNCERTAINTY that STRENGTHEN your faith, your RESOLVE and your COURAGE. Welcome to Saturday, August 14th! Today's episode of The Cross Talk Daily Devotional is titled: Be Patient For 5 Minutes! Thanks for listening! If you desire further information, you may request it from wordgiver@gmail.com. Scripture references are from the New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (La Habra, CA: The Lockman Foundation, 1995} * * * * * * "Be Patient For Five Minutes!" "I have been patient for five minutes!" my granddaughter informed me. While sitting on my lap waiting for her mother to cut her brother's birthday cake, she complained that her mother was so slow. I told her to "Be patient for five minutes!" A few minutes later, she continued with, "You know, it's been much longer than five minutes!" I laughed. Charlotte didn't think it was funny. She thought I was making fun of her. Actually, I was laughing because it sounds just like us at times. Most of us have very little patience. Why is that? For one thing, we live in the microwave age. Food can be cooked or warmed up in minutes. Think of what it took to make popcorn years ago. Making popcorn was a big production when I was little. You put the corn popper on the stove, heated it, put in some oil and popcorn, put on the lid, and then turned the crank until all the kernels popped. The whole process took at least ten minutes. Now, what do we do? We take the popcorn bag out of the plastic wrapper and place it in the microwave. Our biggest decision is whether to put the bag seam up or seam down. In just a couple of minutes, we're eating popcorn! How does this affect our spiritual lives? We fall into the trap of thinking that God does not hear our prayers or understand the matter's urgency. We also equate today's prayer to an answer tomorrow. Listen to the words of: Isaiah 40:31 NAS95 Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. As Isaiah wrote these words, the Israelites were facing many decades of sadness and struggle. Judah would gradually fall into great sin over the next decades resulting in the Babylonian Captivity for 70 years. The Israelites needed to be encouraged. Those who honored the Lord were to live in hope. However, at the moment, they not only wondered but accused God of forgetting them. This verse encouraged them to wait patiently. The believer who truly places his hope in the Lord will renew his strength, exchange his weaknesses for the Lord's strength. Sadly, we sometimes lose our patience with God. That sounds terrible when I say that! Our lack of patience sometimes shows when we are at the end of our rope and barely hanging on. We wonder why our prayers seemingly go unanswered. We wonder why we don't see His hand at work in our lives. In Psalm 27, David prays as his enemies surround him. After expressing concern over his situation in: Psalms 27:9 NAS95 Do not hide Your face from me, Do not turn Your servant away in anger; You have been my help; Do not abandon me nor forsake me, O God of my salvation! David concludes in the last verse of the chapter: Psalms 27:14 NAS95 Wait for the LORD; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD. Just like I encouraged my granddaughter, God tells us to be patient. Though we sometimes cannot see how God is working out the needs of our lives, He is doing precisely that. As a child of God, He is Your Heavenly Father and always operates as such. Let's Pray, Gracious Heavenly Father, Help us to trust that You are always working all things out for our good. May we never doubt Your presence in our lives. Strengthen our walk with You this day. In the Name of Jesus, Amen!
People pray like beggars, thinking that they have to do something to earn God's provision. All of God's provision was already provided for us by His son through the cross. As our awareness grows of the residing Holy Spirit, Christ and the Father within us, our attitude of prayer changes from looking to a God apart from us, and realizing that He dwells within us. Our form of prayer begins to be a proclamation of what is already ours. As our Lord taught us, we proclaim “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done!”Show Notes:• In the scriptures Christ travailed in prayer there are prayers of appropriation knock the door is open, you ask, and it is yours.• Prayer initiates with God making all things available to you.• It is not about praying to a God out there and begging or talking to a God up in heaven, but realizing He is within our heart s• The Lord's prayer is a teaching of how to pray. thy Kingdom come thy will be done.• Check your relationship with the Father, h ow deeply is your relationship with the Father? The Leper Believed His Power Matthew 8:1-4 (NASB95) - When Jesus came down from the mountain, large crowds followed Him. 2 And a leper came to Him and bowed down before Him, and said, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” 3 Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4 And Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one; but go, show yourself to the priest and present the offering that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.” Introduction: 1. Psalm 77:1–15 (NASB95) - My voice rises to God, and I will cry aloud; My voice rises to God, and He will hear me. 2 In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord; In the night my hand was stretched out without weariness; My soul refused to be comforted. 3 When I remember God, then I am disturbed; When I sigh, then my spirit grows faint. Selah. 4 You have held my eyelids open; I am so troubled that I cannot speak. 5 I have considered the days of old, The years of long ago. 6 I will remember my song in the night; I will meditate with my heart, And my spirit ponders: 7 Will the Lord reject forever? And will He never be favorable again? 8 Has His lovingkindness ceased forever? Has His promise come to an end forever? 9 Has God forgotten to be gracious, Or has He in anger withdrawn His compassion? Selah. 10 Then I said, “It is my grief, That the right hand of the Most High has changed.” 11 I shall remember the deeds of the Lord; Surely I will remember Your wonders of old. 12 I will meditate on all Your work And muse on Your deeds. 13 Your way, O God, is holy; What god is great like our God? 14 You are the God who works wonders; You have made known Your strength among the peoples. 15 You have by Your power redeemed Your people, The sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah. Main Points: 1. The Leper believed the power of Christ and risked great public shame. **a. Matthew 8:2 - And a leper came to Him and bowed down before Him** b. Luke 5:12 - BEHOLD, there was a man, covered in leprosy 2. The Leper believed in the power of Christ and **humbled himself to worship.** **a. Matthew 8:2 “2 And a leper came to Him and bowed down before Him”** b. “The Greek verb is *proskenein*, = prostrate oneself – “he bowed down.” i. Mark 1:40 - “falling on his knees” ii. Luke 5:12 - “he fell on his face” 3. The Leper believed the power of Christ and he asked for cleansing. a. Matthew 8:1 - When Jesus came down from the mountain, large crowds followed Him. 2 And a leper came to Him and bowed down before Him, and said, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” **b. He placed himself at the mercy of the will of God.** i. Isaiah 40:31 - Yet those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. ii. Psalm 123:2 - Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, So our eyes look to the Lord our God, Until He is gracious to us. **4. We must believe the Lord is willing.** a. Matthew 8:3 - Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. Conclusion : Matt 8:4 - And Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one; but go, show yourself to the priest and present the offering that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”
The words of the Psalms of David cry out, "How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?" Like David, we have all experienced grief or loss. From his life, we can get a picture of how to embrace God and our grief.
The day of the Lord - Will you be safe or sorry?
From time to time, through circumstances, trials mostly, but sometimes fighting my own unworthy thoughts, I find it very hard to give thanks. I have developed two fallback positions, I call them, in which I am always able to Give thanks. I am continually thankful that He is my Creator: The encouragement of Isaiah 40:28 28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth Does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. 29 He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might He increases power. 30 Though youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly, 31 Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. This promise flows from the truth that He is our God, and we are the sheep of His pasture. Next, He is my Savior: Luke 1:46-50 And Mary said: “My soul exalts the Lord, 47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. 48 “For He has had regard for the humble state of His bondslave; For behold, from this time on all generations will count me blessed. 49 “For the Mighty One has done great things for me; And holy is His name. 50 “AND HIS MERCY IS UPON GENERATION AFTER GENERATION TOWARD THOSE WHO FEAR HIM. Even in the deepest darkest places I have ever been, I can reflect with Mary; I am blessed. I believe in heaven, we will look at all the generations, and we will confess to the glory of God, what great things God has done for us. Perhaps you have those fallback positions of thanksgiving. If you do not, maybe you can find some, even starting to thank God Almighty, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit that He is your Creator and Savior. On this Wednesday's RE-AIR, we got episode 27. Talk about a throw back. Ethan shares from his heart on some scripture pertaining to “Waiting on the Lord” Will spills some details from his last date and more.
We have been Lulled to sleep in the lap of society, just as Samson by Delilah. We know better, just as Samson. COVID and unrest are the first great test of the last great century. Will Christians wake-up and turn to the Lord- Will we center our lives on Faith, Hope, and Love-
Today I get to talk with Erin Weidemann, five-time cancer survivor and co-founder of Truth Becomes Her, about true worth. She describes how God used her journey through her 20’s to convict and re-prioritize her heart. In the midst of a cancer diagnosis and drastic career change, Erin found freedom and worth in obedience to God’s plan for her life. A little bit about the guest: Erin Weidemann is a sought-after homeschool consultant, certified teacher, coach, and nationally-recognized speaker. Erin’s personal mission is to shift the conversation around feminine values from being beauty-driven, to a focus on inherent worth. She is the author of eight books, including the best-selling Bible Belles series, The Adventures of Rooney Cruz. Erin is a five-time cancer survivor, and lives and homeschools in San Diego, CA with her husband, Brent, and their daughter, Rooney. She’s being refreshed by the drive to and spending time in Montana, and barre exercises. Noteworthy quote: “The miracle of my life is not the cancer - that’s like the second most amazing miracle. The first one is the heart transformation; like God took an angry, insecure, selfish person who was wasting her life and he completely changed her and woke her up and only his grace can do that.” - 30:09 Question for consideration: Are there areas in your life where you feel you’re pursuing comfort over obedience to the Lord? Will you spend some time confessing those areas to Him and laying them at His feet? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/emma-koch/support
June 28, 2020 "The Test" Genesis 22. 1-14 Psalm 13 Matthew 10. 40-42 The Rev. Dr. Randolph (Randy) Harry 22 Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied. 2 Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.” 3 Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about. 4 On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. 5 He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.” 6 Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together, 7 Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?” “Yes, my son?” Abraham replied. “The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” 8 Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together. 9 When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. 11 But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied. 12 “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.” 13 Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram[a] caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.” 1 How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? 2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? 3 Look on me and answer, Lord my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death, 4 and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall. 5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. 6 I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me. 40 “Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. 41 Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. 42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”

A Certain WORD in an Uncertain WORLD! SHIFT Series Week 3 For the last few weeks we have been talking about the SHIFT that is taking place in the body of Christ! Because of everything that has happened in our world recently – as a church we need to be ready to make the shift and be ready for the greatest revival the world has ever seen. So much has changed in the space of 3 months…it almost doesn't even seem possible. So much uncertainty. John 1:14 (KJV) 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. The Word of God is much more than mere communication through language. The Word is personal, interactive, and alive. We not only have the “BIBLE” or Word of God, but we have the WORD made flesh, that now lives in us by the Holy Ghost. We are not just like everyone else. In reference to the end times Daniel says.. in Daniel 11:32 KJV “And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.” In our day, right now…we have so much uncertainty…so much information…but not all information is TRUTH… we see this in – Daniel 12:4 KJV “….shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” Media is messing with you? …We need to KNOW our God like never before…We HAVE a CERTAIN WORD! We know He lives within us if we have received His Spirit because Ephesians 1:13 KJV says… “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,” The Psalmist said… Psalms 56:4 KJV “In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.” If you read Jeremiah Chapter 7… you will discover God talking to Israel about listening to bad advice and uncertain and deceptive words…this also applies to the church which is spiritual “Israel” He challenges them… Jeremiah 7:8 NASB ““Behold, you are trusting in deceptive words to no avail.” Do you know what is worse than not having information? Having misinformation but believing it to be true and rearranging your life because of it, spiritually, emotionally, and so on. Ecclesiastes 8:6-7 NASB “For there is a proper time and procedure for every delight, though a man's trouble is heavy upon him. If no one knows what will happen, who can tell him when it will happen?” That is why this is so important for us today…there is way to much UNCERTAINTY outside of God right now – we need to lock on to a CERTAIN WORD!! Isaiah 40:28-31 NASB “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth Does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might He increases power. Though youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly, Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.” This is the shift that is taking place today… The People that Know their God will be strong and do exploits… Those who take hold of the CERTAIN WORD!! This is that day, now is that time… Everyone else is uncertain and letting uncertainty cause them to panic and fear…to do things that uncertain people do… But we have a CERTAIN WORD… There are some things we KNOW…not just because the Bible tells us so…but also because we have experienced the truth of them in our own lives! We KNOW that God LOVES US… We KNOW that GOD is real, and He is in Control of everything!! We KNOW that GOD is coming back very soon…Just like He said… We KNOW that if we are ready…Filled with His Spirit, Baptized in His Name…and living a holy life – we will meet Him when He returns… We KNOW while we are here…God is still our Jehovah Rapha (The Lord that Heals) We KNOW that Jesus is our Jehovah Jireh… Isaiah 55:10-11 (NASB) “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth And making it bear and sprout, And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; 11 So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. His Word is forever settled…. He Is the Same Yesterday, today…and forever… His Word is the Lamp for my Feet, the light for my path His Word is from Everlasting to Everlasting… The Word of God formed worlds. The flood of Noah's day was by the Word of God. The world as we know it is being held by the Word of God. When the end of the world is come God will destroy this world by His Word. Psalms 107:17-22 NASB “Fools, because of their rebellious way, And because of their iniquities, were afflicted. Their soul abhorred all kinds of food, And they drew near to the gates of death. Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them out of their distresses. He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions. Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men! Let them also offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, And tell of His works with joyful singing.” Matthew 8:5-10 (KJV) 5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, 6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. 7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. 8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. 9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. 10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. A song. 1 God is renowned in Judah; in Israel his name is great. 2 His tent is in Salem, his dwelling-place in Zion. 3 There he broke the flashing arrows, the shields and the swords, the weapons of war. 4 You are radiant with light, more majestic than mountains rich with game. 5 The valiant lie plundered, they sleep their last sleep; not one of the warriors can lift his hands. 6 At your rebuke, God of Jacob, both horse and chariot lie still. 7 It is you alone who are to be feared. Who can stand before you when you are angry? 8 From heaven you pronounced judgment, and the land feared and was quiet – 9 when you, God, rose up to judge, to save all the afflicted of the land. 10 Surely your wrath against mankind brings you praise, and the survivors of your wrath are restrained. 11 Make vows to the LORD your God and fulfil them; let all the neighbouring lands bring gifts to the One to be feared. 12 He breaks the spirit of rulers; he is feared by the kings of the earth. Right mouse click or tap here to save/download these Psalms as a MP3 file Psalm 77 For the director of music. For Jeduthun. Of Asaph. A psalm. 1 I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to hear me. 2 When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands, and I would not be comforted. 3 I remembered you, God, and I groaned; I meditated, and my spirit grew faint. 4 You kept my eyes from closing; I was too troubled to speak. 5 I thought about the former days, the years of long ago; 6 I remembered my songs in the night. My heart meditated and my spirit asked: 7 ‘Will the Lord reject for ever? Will he never show his favour again? 8 Has his unfailing love vanished for ever? Has his promise failed for all time? 9 Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?’ 10 Then I thought, ‘To this I will appeal: the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand. 11 I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. 12 I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.’ 13 Your ways, God, are holy. What god is as great as our God? 14 You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples. 15 With your mighty arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. 16 The waters saw you, God, the waters saw you and writhed; the very depths were convulsed. 17 The clouds poured down water, the heavens resounded with thunder; your arrows flashed back and forth. 18 Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind, your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked. 19 Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen. 20 You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. Can he supply meat for his people?’ 21 When the LORD heard them, he was furious; his fire broke out against Jacob, and his wrath rose against Israel, 22 for they did not believe in God or trust in his deliverance. 23 Yet he gave a command to the skies above and opened the doors of the heavens; 24 he rained down manna for the people to eat, he gave them the grain of heaven. 25 Human beings ate the bread of angels; he sent them all the food they could eat. 26 He let loose the east wind from the heavens and by his power made the south wind blow. 27 He rained meat down on them like dust, birds like sand on the seashore. 28 He made them come down inside their camp, all around their tents. 29 They ate till they were gorged – he had given them what they craved. 30 But before they turned from what they craved, even while the food was still in their mouths, 31 God’s anger rose against them; he put to death the sturdiest among them, cutting down the young men of Israel. 32 In spite of all this, they kept on sinning; in spite of his wonders, they did not believe. 33 So he ended their days in futility and their years in terror. 34 Whenever God slew them, they would seek him; they eagerly turned to him again. 35 They remembered that God was their Rock, that God Most High was their Redeemer. 36 But then they would flatter him with their mouths, lying to him with their tongues; 37 their hearts were not loyal to him, they were not faithful to his covenant. 38 Yet he was merciful; he forgave their iniquities and did not destroy them. Time after time he restrained his anger and did not stir up his full wrath. 39 He remembered that they were but flesh, a passing breeze that does not return. 40 How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness and grieved him in the wasteland! 41 Again and again they put God to the test; they vexed the Holy One of Israel. 42 They did not remember his power – the day he redeemed them from the oppressor, 43 the day he displayed his signs in Egypt, his wonders in the region of Zoan. 44 He turned their river into blood; they could not drink from their streams. 45 He sent swarms of flies that devoured them, and frogs that devastated them. 46 He gave their crops to the grasshopper, their produce to the locust. 47 He destroyed their vines with hail and their sycamore-figs with sleet. 48 He gave over their cattle to the hail, their livestock to bolts of lightning. 49 He unleashed against them his hot anger, his wrath, indignation and hostility – a band of destroying angels. 50 He prepared a path for his anger; he did not spare them from death but gave them over to the plague. 51 He struck down all the firstborn of Egypt, the firstfruits of manhood in the tents of Ham. 52 But he brought his people out like a flock; he led them like sheep through the wilderness. 53 He guided them safely, so they were unafraid; but the sea engulfed their enemies. 54 And so he brought them to the border of his holy land, to the hill country his right hand had taken. 55 He drove out nations before them and allotted their lands to them as an inheritance; he settled the tribes of Israel in their homes. 56 But they put God to the test and rebelled against the Most High; they did not keep his statutes. 57 Like their ancestors they were disloyal and faithless, as unreliable as a faulty bow. 58 They angered him with their high places; they aroused his jealousy with their idols. 59 When God heard them, he was furious; he rejected Israel completely. 60 He abandoned the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent he had set up among humans. 61 He sent the ark of his might into captivity, his splendour into the hands of the enemy. 62 He gave his people over to the sword; he was furious with his inheritance. 63 Fire consumed their young men, and their young women had no wedding songs; 64 their priests were put to the sword, and their widows could not weep. 65 Then the Lord awoke as from sleep, as a warrior wakes from the stupor of wine. 66 He beat back his enemies; he put them to everlasting shame. 67 Then he rejected the tents of Joseph, he did not choose the tribe of Ephraim; 68 but he chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion, which he loved. 69 He built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth that he established for ever. 70 He chose David his servant and took him from the sheepfolds; 71 from tending the sheep he brought him to be the shepherd of his people Jacob, of Israel his inheritance. 72 And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skilful hands he led them. Will you be angry for ever? How long will your jealousy burn like fire? 6 Pour out your wrath on the nations that do not acknowledge you, on the kingdoms that do not call on your name; 7 for they have devoured Jacob and devastated his homeland. 8 Do not hold against us the sins of past generations; may your mercy come quickly to meet us, for we are in desperate need. 9 Help us, God our Saviour, for the glory of your name; deliver us and forgive our sins for your name’s sake. 10 Why should the nations say, ‘Where is their God?’ Before our eyes, make known among the nations that you avenge the outpoured blood of your servants. 11 May the groans of the prisoners come before you; with your strong arm preserve those condemned to die. 12 Pay back into the laps of our neighbours seven times the contempt they have hurled at you, Lord. 13 Then we your people, the sheep of your pasture, will praise you for ever; from generation to generation we will proclaim your praise. A psalm. 1 Hear us, Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock. You who sit enthroned between the cherubim, shine forth 2 before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh. Awaken your might; come and save us. 3 Restore us, O God; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved. 4 How long, LORD God Almighty, will your anger smoulder against the prayers of your people? 5 You have fed them with the bread of tears; you have made them drink tears by the bowlful. 6 You have made us an object of derision to our neighbours, and our enemies mock us. 7 Restore us, God Almighty; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved. 8 You transplanted a vine from Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it. 9 You cleared the ground for it, and it took root and filled the land. 10 The mountains were covered with its shade, the mighty cedars with its branches. 11 Its branches reached as far as the Sea, its shoots as far as the River. 12 Why have you broken down its walls so that all who pass by pick its grapes? 13 Boars from the forest ravage it, and insects from the fields feed on it. 14 Return to us, God Almighty! Look down from heaven and see! Watch over this vine, 15 the root your right hand has planted, the son you have raised up for yourself. 16 Your vine is cut down, it is burned with fire; at your rebuke your people perish. 17 Let your hand rest on the man at your right hand, the son of man you have raised up for yourself. 18 Then we will not turn away from you; revive us, and we will call on your name. 19 Restore us, LORD God Almighty; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved. PSALM 13: ALL THE DOUBTS February 1/2 - Matt Wright What if I have doubts? Sometimes the only thing of which it seems we’re certain is that everything seems uncertain. God feels a million miles away, and we feel abandoned. We wonder if he’s listening or if he’s even out there at all. Psalm 13 begins with a brazen question, “How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?” The Psalmist wants to know when God will reveal himself, when will he come through?
There is a great need in our culture for agents of cultural transformation. Every segment of society is under the influence of someone's leadership and agenda. Our challenge is that the sons of God have been AWOL. We have not been engaged in the place of our assignment. In this episode, we are going to introduce you to the concept of the 7 Mountains of Cultural Influence, and how YOU can become activated and engaged in your God ordained place of assignment, and bring the Kingdom of God to the sphere you are called to impact. Anniversary Report: As you know, my wife and I just got back from our vacation in Lake Tahoe, celebrating 25 years of marriage. We stayed at the very lovely Hyatt Sierra Mountain Lodge, near the shores of Lake Tahoe. We spent 6 wonderful days experiencing the beauty and majesty of this wonderful area. It was a significant time for Sabrina and me, as we reflected on our first 25 years together, and dreamed about the next 25 years and all that God has for us. Scriptural Principle: Isaiah 2:1-3 1 The word which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. 2 Now it will come about that In the last days, the mountain of the house of the LORD Will be established as the chief of the mountains, And will be raised above the hills; And all the nations will stream to it. 3 And many peoples will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; That He may teach us concerning His ways And that we may walk in His paths.” For the law will go forth from Zion And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. Romans 12:2 1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. In 1975, Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade, and Loren Cunningham, founder of Youth With a Mission, had lunch together in Colorado. God simultaneously gave each of these change agents a message to give to the other. During that same time frame Francis Schaeffer was given a similar message. That message was that if we are to impact any nation for Jesus Christ, then we would have to affect the seven spheres, or mountains of society that are the pillars of any society. Psalm 11 to Psalm 15 Often we hear the Psalms one by one, but today we offer you the chance to hear a group of Psalms read as a collection! Psalm 11 For the director of music. Of David. 1 In the Lord I take refuge. How then can you say to me: ‘Flee like a bird to your mountain. 2 For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart. 3 When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?’ 4 The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord is on his heavenly throne. He observes everyone on earth; his eyes examine them. 5 The Lord examines the righteous, but the wicked, those who love violence, he hates with a passion. 6 On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulphur; a scorching wind will be their lot. 7 For the Lord is righteous, he loves justice; the upright will see his face. Psalm 12 For the director of music. According to sheminith. A psalm of David. 1 Help, Lord, for no one is faithful any more; those who are loyal have vanished from the human race. 2 Everyone lies to their neighbour; they flatter with their lips but harbour deception in their hearts. 3 May the Lord silence all flattering lips and every boastful tongue – 4 those who say, ‘By our tongues we will prevail; our own lips will defend us – who is lord over us?’ 5 ‘Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise,’ says the Lord. ‘I will protect them from those who malign them.’ 6 And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times. 7 You, Lord, will keep the needy safe and will protect us for ever from the wicked, 8 who freely strut about when what is vile is honoured by the human race. Psalm 13 For the director of music. A psalm of David. 1 How long, Lord? Will you forget me for ever? How long will you hide your face from me? 2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? 3 Look on me and answer, Lord my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death, 4 and my enemy will say, ‘I have overcome him,’ and my foes will rejoice when I fall. 5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. 6 I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me. Psalm 14 For the director of music. Of David. 1 The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. 2 The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. 3 All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. 4 Do all these evildoers know nothing? They devour my people as though eating bread; they never call on the Lord. 5 But there they are, overwhelmed with dread, for God is present in the company of the righteous. 6 You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor, but the Lord is their refuge. 7 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the Lord restores his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad! Psalm 15 A psalm of David. 1 Lord, who may dwell in your sacred tent? Who may live on your holy mountain? 2 The one whose way of life is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from their heart; 3 whose tongue utters no slander, who does no wrong to a neighbour, and casts no slur on others; 4 who despises a vile person but honours those who fear the Lord; who keeps an oath even when it hurts, and does not change their mind; 5 who lends money to the poor without interest; who does not accept a bribe against the innocent. Whoever does these things will never be shaken. Right mouse click or tap here to save/download these Psalms as a MP3 file You can now purchase our Partakers books! Psalm 13 A Plea for Deliverance For the choir director. A psalm of David. 1 How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? 2 How long will I store up anxious concerns[a] within me, agony in my mind every day? How long will my enemy dominate me? 3 Consider me and answer, Lord my God. Restore brightness to my eyes; otherwise, I will sleep in death. 4 My enemy will say, “I have triumphed over him,” and my foes will rejoice because I am shaken. 5 But I have trusted in your faithful love; my heart will rejoice in your deliverance. 6 I will sing to the Lord because he has treated me generously.
2 = 1 or does it? When we overcomplicate things we make a mess. Things go wrong. “One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” “Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbour as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.” When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.” (Mark 12:28–34 NIV11) A: Love God Love God with all your HEART Centre of thoughts and emotions, especially love and compassion “My heart, O God, is steadfast; I will sing and make music with all my soul. Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. I will praise you, LORD, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.” (Psalm 108:1–5 NIV11) How do I express emotion towards God? Love God with all your SOUL Spiritual or immaterial part of a human being regarded as immortal “Praise the LORD, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits-who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,” (Psalm 103:1–4 NIV11) Is my love for God deep? Love God with all your MIND Aware of the world and experiences, to think and to feel; the faculty of consciousness and thought. “In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world.” (1 John 5:3–4 NIV11) Loving God is practical. Love God with all your STRENGTH The quality or state of being able to withstand force, pressure or wear. “How long, LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? Look on me and answer, LORD my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death, and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall. But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the LORD’S praise, for he has been good to me.” (Psalm 13:1–6 NIV11) Not always easy to love God - that’s when we need strength Which stands out as the one in which you can grow most in loving God? B: Being a neighbour “In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’ “Which of these three do you think was a neighbour to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”” (Luke 10:30–37 NIV11) Have no boundaries in who we help Meet the needs in as complete a fashion as possible “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,” (Hebrews 10:24 NIV11) Let’s help one another to be a good neighbour to others in need. Passage: Romans 15:22-27 22 For this reason I have often been prevented from coming to you; 23 but now, with no further place for me in these regions, and since I have had for many years a longing to come to you 24 whenever I go to Spain ?for I hope to see you in passing, and to be helped on my way there by you, when I have first enjoyed your company for a while 25 but now, I am going to Jerusalem serving the saints. 26 For Macedonia and Achaia have been pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem. 27 Yes, they were pleased to do so, and they are indebted to them. For if the Gentiles have shared in their spiritual things, they are indebted to minister to them also in material things. 28 Therefore, when I have finished this, and have put my seal on this fruit of theirs, I will go on by way of you to Spain. 29 I know that when I come to you, I will come in the fullness of the blessing of Christ. 1. The gospel changes the trajectory of our lives. • Gal 1:13-16 – For you have heard of my former manner of life in Judaism, how I used to persecute the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it; 14 and I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries among my countrymen, being more extremely zealous for my ancestral traditions. 15 But when God, who had set me apart even from my mother's womb and called me through His grace, was pleased 16 to reveal His Son in me so that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult with flesh and blood. • 2 Thess. 3:1 –Finally, brethren, pray for us that the word of the Lord will spread rapidly and be glorified, just as it did also with you; • Isa 40:31 – Yet those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary • Eph 6:19-20 – 19 and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak Phil 1:12-14 – 12 Now I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel, 13 so that my imprisonment in the cause of Christ has become well known throughout the whole praetorian guard and to everyone else, 14 and that most of the brethren, trusting in the Lord because of my imprisonment, have far more courage to speak the word of God without fear. • 1 Cor 16:8-9 – 8 But I will remain in Ephesus until Pentecost; 9 for a wide door for effective service has opened to me, and there are many adversaries. • 1 Cor 16:1-2 – Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I directed the churches of Galatia, so do you also.2 On the first day of every week each one of you is to put aside and save, as he may prosper, so that no collections be made when I come. • Acts 2:43-45 – 43 Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles. 44 And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common; 45 and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need. • Acts 4:34-35 – 34 For there was not a needy person among them, for all who were owners of land or houses would sell them and bring the proceeds of the sales 35 and lay them at the apostles' feet, and they would be distributed to each as any had need. • Acts 11:29 – And in the proportion that any of the disciples had means, each of them determined to send a contribution for the relief of the brethren living in Judea. • 2 Cor 8:1-5 – Now, brethren, we wish to make known to you the grace of God which has been given in the churches of Macedonia, 2 that in a great ordeal of affliction their abundance of joy and their deep poverty overflowed in the wealth of their liberality. 3 For I testify that according to their ability, and beyond their ability, they gave of their own accord, 4 begging us with much urging for the favor of participation in the support of the saints, 5 and this, not as we had expected, but they first gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God. • John 6:27-30 – 27 "Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal." 28 Therefore they said to Him, "What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?" 29 Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent."
For the director of music. A psalm of David. How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? Look on me and answer, Lord my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death, and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall. But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me.

Gems in the book of Revelation Part 123 - Revelation 1:5 Who Jesus was and is Unlike the other writers of New Testament epistles John does not have to direct the bulk of his writing to the problems in a church - with the exceptions of the seven letters to individual churches in his chapters 2 and 3. So he concentrates on Jesus tackling many things the other writers do not. Here he is interested in describing the Messiah with 3 strong and powerful descriptive phrases: faithful witness, first born from the dead and ruler of the kings of the earth. Thus we have a great gem cut with 3 faces. He is the faithful witness. ‘Witness’ translates a Greek word from which we get the English word ‘martyr’. The only other person who died for his faith named in this book is Antipas (2:13) and he also is called a ‘faithful witness’. He is uniquely identified with Jesus, having given the ultimate witness to the most important event of all that Jesus did here on earth. What an accolade! There is nowhere in scripture the faintest suggestion that we should seek martyrdom. Yet if it becomes a strong possibility or a certainty for us we are not to do anything other than to welcome it. That is a tough statement to make. Our attitude towards it will depend very much on where we live and the implications of the culture and society we are in. some of us, living in a safe and secure environment, will never really have come to terms with the possibility - and why should we? Others, living in an unsafe environment will have been forced to confront the possibility and probably be shocked that there are those of us who never have! We can only live where we live and it is not sensible to try and do otherwise than face to problems of our place. If we are safe as can be, let us rejoice. If we live in a very unsafe part of the world and are unable to get out or have deliberately decided that we should not do so because of the work we are able to do for the kingdom and its Lord then let us live on, trusting in him, whatever the future may hold for us. The second title John gives to Jesus is ‘firstborn from the dead’. This is a statement of both time precedence and status seniority. Isaac bought the birthright from his elder brother Esau and then tricked him out of their father’s blessing. Thus he secured a larger share of the estate when Isaac, their father, died. We do not know quite how it worked in those very early days. It was formalized later so that the senior son took a double share of the estate on the death of the father (Deuteronomy 21:15-17). Jesus has the time precedence. The Jews thought, on the basis of Ezekiel 37:11-14 and Daniel 12:1-2 that all the Lord’s people would eventually be resurrected. What they did not expect was that one person would be resurrected ahead of everyone else, thus demonstrating that it would happen when the end of the age came. Jesus was the first born from the dead. We shall eventually be resurrected as he was at some unknown date in the future. WOW! The third title John gives to Jesus is ‘ruler of the kings of the earth’ which clearly means he will one day rule all this earth of ours and all who live on it. This is very much in line with the things that the other New Testament writers say. For instance Paul says, “that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:10-11). John has taken the idea from Psalm 89:27 “I will appoint him to be my firstborn, the most exalted of the kings of the earth.” Such things seem to be strange things to say when only a tiny minority of the current kings, emperors and presidents of the nations of the earth would allow Jesus any place in their decisions. But this is no surprise. Ethan the Ezrahite, who wrote the psalm, complains that not all is going well for the king of David’s line that he is prophesying about. He says “You have exalted the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice. Indeed, you have turned back the edge of his sword and have not supported him in battle. You have put an end to his splendour and cast his throne to the ground. You have cut short the days of his youth; you have covered him with a mantle of shame. How long, LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire?” (Psalm 89:42-46). We must remember 2 things: first that the sort of rule that Jesus founded and rejoiced in was never a rule of power and might and domination but one of modesty, humility and love. That sort of power is slowly making its way across the world even in these days. Second that one day this world will come to an end. When it does Jesus will come to the fore and then he will be the king of all the world. Oh, for that day! In book one of Psalms, the writers praise God for his justice, express confidence in God's compassion, recount the depravity of humanity, plead for vindication, ask God to deliver them from their enemies, speak of the blessedness of the forgiven sinner and portray God as a shepherd. We should worship God with the same sense of adoration found in these psalms. How long Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? Are we ready to meet the Lord? Will he find us faithful and wise? What does it look like to be ready? Jesus' return motivates our joyful service.
We are in a spiritual battle. The bible does not soft sell the fact that we have an enemy who seeks to kill, maim and destroy. The bible describes the enemy as a lion seeking to destroy. A lion will roar in order to intimidate and strike fear in his prey. Even those who are not near the lion, can hear the roar and are afraid. Other times, the enemy is like a snake who sneaks up quietly and bites. The piercing is a minor puncture wound. If all we had to deal with was the piercing, we could recover from those wounds quickly. However, the piercing is to deliver the venom. The poison is what does the damage. The poison takes the piercing and makes it terminal. There are many who struggle with the poison long after the piercing; sometimes even years later. The enemy wants the poison to kill. As much as we would like it to not be true, each of us will experience a piercing on life. We will all experience pain in life. If we allow God to do what He wants to do, there can be healing and protection from the poison. The bible says when the enemy comes in like a flood. No if, but when. It also says that the Spirit of the Lord WILL raise up a standard against the enemy. Paul was an innocent man who had been in prison for many years. He continued to witness and minister. Our text is part of a the story about Paul traveling to Rome to stand trial. He is shipwrecked and now washed up on an island. While recovering around a fire, a snake bites him. The men around assume that since these things are happening to Paul that he must be guilty. They stood by waiting to watch him die. Surely the venom of the snake will soon kill him. They soon saw that the same God that kept Paul through the storm, will see him through the snake attack. They realize that something supernatural is happening. God is able to keep His people. There will be piercing but in the midst of the piercing is God’s protection. There is life after the piercing. Joseph’s own family turned against him and sold him into slavery. While in slavery, he is betrayed by Potiphar's wife. In prison he was forgotten by the cup bearer. He finally is raised up more than could ever be imagined. Joseph experienced many piercing, but he know that God had a purpose and a plan and didn’t allow the piercings to change him. He had enough sense to say “I know you meant it for evil, but God meant it for good.” David had pain. Rejected and overlooked by his own family. Hunted by Saul and then by his own son. Never did David become bitter or turn his back on God. He was pierced but not poisoned. Perhaps the greatest example of pierced but not poisoned was Jesus himself. He was literally pierced in his hands, his feet and His side, yet from the cross, He says: Forgive them for they know not what they do. Jesus paid the price so that we do not have to be poisoned. The blood of the lamb is able to counteract any venom that the enemy can inject. The blood still works so that there is no residual bitterness or pain in our spirit. Jesus is the key to being pierced but not poisoned.
All of creation echoes the glory and majesty of God. This is the refrain of Psalm 29. Psalms 79 and 129 declare God's justice, righteousness, and faithfulness in his deliverance of Israel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLDfDLvju2k Subscribe on Youtube Psalm 29 1 Ascribe to the LORD, you sons of the mighty, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. 2 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due to his name. Worship the LORD in holy array. 3 The LORD’s voice is on the waters. The God of glory thunders, even the LORD on many waters. 4 The LORD’s voice is powerful. The LORD’s voice is full of majesty. 5 the LORD’s voice breaks the cedars. Yes, the LORD breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. 6 He makes them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young, wild ox. 7 The LORD’s voice strikes with flashes of lightning. 8 The LORD’s voice shakes the wilderness. The LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. 9 The LORD’s voice makes the deer calve, and strips the forests bare. In his temple everything says, “Glory!” 10 The LORD sat enthroned at the Flood. Yes, the LORD sits as King forever. 11 The LORD will give strength to his people. The LORD will bless his people with peace. Psalm 79 1 God, the nations have come into your inheritance. They have defiled your holy temple. They have laid Jerusalem in heaps. 2 They have given the dead bodies of your servants to be food for the birds of the sky, the flesh of your holy ones to the animals of the earth. 3 Their blood they have shed like water around Jerusalem. There was no one to bury them. 4 We have become a reproach to our neighbors, a scoffing and derision to those who are around us. 5 How long, LORD? Will you be angry forever? Will your jealousy burn like fire? 6 Pour out your wrath on the nations that don’t know you; on the kingdoms that don’t call on your name; 7 For they have devoured Jacob, and destroyed his homeland. 8 Don’t hold the iniquities of our forefathers against us. Let your tender mercies speedily meet us, for we are in desperate need. 9 Help us, God of our salvation, for the glory of your name. Deliver us, and forgive our sins, for your name’s sake. 10 Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?” Let it be known among the nations, before our eyes, that vengeance for your servants’ blood is being poured out. 11 Let the sighing of the prisoner come before you. According to the greatness of your power, preserve those who are sentenced to death. 12 Pay back to our neighbors seven times into their bosom their reproach with which they have reproached you, Lord. 13 So we, your people and sheep of your pasture, will give you thanks forever. We will praise you forever, to all generations. Psalm 129 1 Many times they have afflicted me from my youth up. Let Israel now say, 2 many times they have afflicted me from my youth up, yet they have not prevailed against me. 3 The plowers plowed on my back. They made their furrows long. 4 The LORD is righteous. He has cut apart the cords of the wicked. 5 Let them be disappointed and turned backward, all those who hate Zion. 6 Let them be as the grass on the housetops,
In Psalms 13, 63, & 113, David clearly expresses his need for his God and Savior, that it is only in him that deliverance comes. Pastor Lou walks the church of the United States through the process of purging the church of iniquity and unrighteousness before the LORD. Jeremiah 8:4-7 Moreover you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Will they fall and not rise? Will one turn away and not return? Why has this people slidden back, Jerusalem, in a perpetual backsliding? They hold fast to deceit, They refuse to return. I listened and heard, But they do not speak aright. No man repented of his wickedness, Saying, ‘What have I done?' 2 Corinthians 11:7-15 And I will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things they boast about. For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve. Shalom!
“After This I Will”Joel 2:28-29Rev. J. Robert Thompson, Jr., Senior PastorChapel Woods PCA, Snellville, GeorgiaJoel 2 (NASB)The Terrible Visitation1 Blow a trumpet in Zion, And sound an alarm on My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, For the day of the Lord is coming; Surely it is near,2 A day of darkness and gloom, A day of clouds and thick darkness. As the dawn is spread over the mountains, So there is a great and mighty people; There has never been anything like it, Nor will there be again after it To the years of many generations.3 A fire consumes before them And behind them a flame burns. The land is like the garden of Eden before them But a desolate wilderness behind them, And nothing at all escapes them.4 Their appearance is like the appearance of horses; And like war horses, so they run.5 With a noise as of chariots They leap on the tops of the mountains, Like the crackling of a flame of fire consuming the stubble, Like a mighty people arranged for battle.6 Before them the people are in anguish; All faces turn pale.7 They run like mighty men, They climb the wall like soldiers; And they each march in line, Nor do they deviate from their paths.8 They do not crowd each other, They march everyone in his path; When they burst through the defenses, They do not break ranks.9 They rush on the city, They run on the wall; They climb into the houses, They enter through the windows like a thief.10 Before them the earth quakes, The heavens tremble, The sun and the moon grow dark And the stars lose their brightness.11 The Lord utters His voice before His army; Surely His camp is very great, For strong is he who carries out His word. The day of the Lord is indeed great and very awesome, And who can endure it?12 “Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “Return to Me with all your heart, And with fasting, weeping and mourning;13 And rend your heart and not your garments.” Now return to the Lord your God, For He is gracious and compassionate, Slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness And relenting of evil.14 Who knows whether He will not turn and relent And leave a blessing behind Him, Even a grain offering and a drink offering For the Lord your God?15 Blow a trumpet in Zion, Consecrate a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly,16 Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, Assemble the elders, Gather the children and the nursing infants. Let the bridegroom come out of his room And the bride out of her bridal chamber.17 Let the priests, the Lord’s ministers, Weep between the porch and the altar, And let them say, “Spare Your people, O Lord, And do not make Your inheritance a reproach, A byword among the nations. Why should they among the peoples say, ‘Where is their God?’”Deliverance Promised18 Then the Lord will be zealous for His land And will have pity on His people.19 The Lord will answer and say to His people, “Behold, I am going to send you grain, new wine and oil, And you will be satisfied in full with them; And I will never again make you a reproach among the nations.20 “But I will remove the northern army far from you, And I will drive it into a parched and desolate land, And its vanguard into the eastern sea, And its rear guard into the western sea. And its stench will arise and its foul smell will come up, For it has done great things.”21 Do not fear, O land, rejoice and be glad, For the Lord has done great things.22 Do not fear, beasts of the field, For the pastures of the wilderness have turned green, For the tree has borne its fruit, The fig tree and the vine have yielded [k]in full.23 So rejoice, O sons of Zion, And be glad in the Lord your God; For He has given you the early rain for your vindication. And He has poured down for you the rain, The early and latter rain as before.24 The threshing floors will be full of grain, And the vats will overflow with the new wine and oil.25 “Then I will make up to you for the years That the swarming locust has eaten, The creeping locust, the stripping locust and the gnawing locust, My great army which I sent among you.26 “You will have plenty to eat and be satisfied And praise the name of the Lord your God, Who has dealt wondrously with you; Then My people will never be put to shame.27 “Thus you will know that I am in the midst of Israel, And that I am the Lord your God, And there is no other; And My people will never be put to shame. The Promise of the Spirit28 “It will come about after this That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and daughters will prophesy, Your old men will dream dreams, Your young men will see visions.29 “Even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. The Day of the Lord30 “I will display wonders in the sky and on the earth, Blood, fire and columns of smoke.31 “The sun will be turned into darkness And the moon into blood Before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes.32 “And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of the Lord Will be delivered; For on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem There will be those who escape, As the Lord has said, Even among the survivors whom the Lord calls.
