Show Notes: https://wetflyswing.com/692 Presented By: Skwala, TroutRoutes, Waters West, Heated Core What is the first thing you think of when I say the word Spey? Is it the cast, the flies, the rod, or is it something else? How about the Mickey Finn or the Starling and Purple? There are so many diverse ways to fish a fly, but today we're gonna blend some of the old with the new, some steelhead with the trout and some fly tying so you are better equipped to fish the fly and understand how to swing flies for all species. Marty Howard, co-author of Steelhead Fly Tying with Dec Hogan and an angler who's fished more steelhead rivers than most of us can imagine shares his swung fly journey. We're gonna dig into his new fly-tying book for trout that's coming out right around the corner, and we're gonna hear why he doesn't care if gear fishermen or sleds are going up and down the river before he swings his fly on that run. We get some tips on staying warm this winter. Marty also shares stories of fishing alongside Tiger Woods, other pro golfers, and his good friend Mark O'Meara. Another passionate steelhead angler and fly tyer in the podcast! Show Notes: https://wetflyswing.com/692

This week, we talk to comedian/actor Andy Kindler (Bob's Burgers, Late Night w/ David Letterman, Maron, Everybody Loves Raymond) & Mike Lisk (executive producer of The Best Show w/ Tom Scharpling and host of Egg Foo What?!) about a documentary whose subject matter is dear to both of their hearts (yet full of confusion and mystery for host Chris Slusarenko), The Grateful Dead documentary series, LONG STRANGE TRIP. These two have a history with each other, and out of the gate, an old Zappa argument and apology appear out of nowhere, and then it's off to the races. We discussed whether Bob Weir is essential to the band, the stage banter of the Grateful Dead, Andy's 70s rock band TransFusion, their viewpoints on Pigpen—the original rapper, which of the two drummers had the goods, Mountain Dew vs. Morning Dew, Andy's LSD induced concert going-ons and his naked prog-rock band stories, Mike's experience of almost being trampled at a Grateful Dead concert, pocket pool advice from the band, Tom Scharpling, Robert Hunter's lyrics, Donna & Keith, Mike meeting Garcia as a teenager, sneaking drugs into concerts, digitally erasing crowd nudity from concert footage, why they think they are the quintessential American band, The Velvet Underground and the dissonance of the Grateful Dead, Disco Dead, Marvin Gaye, can you be a cynic and give yourself over to the band, losing punk rock friends to the Dead, Altamont, tape trading, Europe '72, the sadness in the Jerry Garcia story, Hot Tuna, The Warlocks, Dead & Co., how the documentary is critical of a portion of their fan base, the Dead telling their fans to stop being assholes, Mickey Finn's father ripping the band off, the Phil Zone and Mike gives us a crash course on the essential shows and recordings to listen to.So let's time your trip perfectly on this very funny yet heartfelt episode of Revolutions Per Movie.ANDY KINDLER:twitter.com/AndyKindlerMIKE LISK:thebestshow.netEgg Foo What: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/egg-foo-what/id1635904703REVOLUTIONS PER MOVIE:Host Chris Slusarenko (Eyelids, Guided By Voices, owner of Clinton Street Video rental store) is joined by actors, musicians, comedians, writers & directors who each week pick out their favorite music documentary, musical, music-themed fiction film or music videos to discuss. Feel the rhythm of a bygone era as I sit down with the charismatic Danielz of T.Rextasy, the acclaimed and world's only officially endorsed T.Rex tribute band. In our heart-to-heart, we peel back the layers of nostalgia, tracing the influence of the legendary Marc Bolan on a generation of music enthusiasts. Danielz recounts his own transformation from a sports-loving teenager to a dedicated musician under the spell of Bolan's "Jeepster," drawing parallels to my own discovery of T-Rex's magnetic sound. We take you back to the thrill of flipping through vinyl at the record shop, where the anticipation for B-sides was as tangible as the grooves on the LPs. This is more than a chat; it's a journey through the very fibres of our musical souls.Venture behind the studio glass with us as Danielz describes the enigmatic partnership between Marc Bolan and producer Tony Visconti, which sculpted the soundscape of T.Rex's most celebrated hits. The intricate dance of Bolan's raw energy and Visconti's meticulous craft emerges through anecdotes, like the covert tuning of a guitar or the layered genius of "Metal Guru." This episode is a treasure chest of insider tales for fans and musicians alike, brimming with the what-ifs and might-have-beens of rock history.Closing our conversation we explore the trials and triumphs of paying tribute to T.Rex, from battling with record labels to the euphoria of planning a monumental 50-show tour. Danielz shares the essence of bringing T.Rex's hits and cherished B-sides to life on stage, ensuring every note resonates with nostalgia and authenticity. We celebrate the abiding allure of T.Rex's music as it continues to captivate fans across generations, proving that the boogie isn't just a dance—it's a legacy that keeps on grooving. Whether you're a long-time devotee or a newcomer to the cosmic energy of Bolan and T.Rex, this episode is a backstage pass to the undying spirit of glam rock.Danielz links:http://www.trextasy.com/https://www.instagram.com/trextasymarcbolan/https://www.facebook.com/t.rextasywww.undercurrentstories.com

Dry flies looked about the same 100 years ago. Streamers? Things were a little different. We hadn't gotten around to articulated flies that use half a bucktail yet. But we still caught fish. And the flies that were being fished worked. Plus, you could cast them on your regular trout rod. All was well in the world. And it still is. There is no reason why you can't fish a Mickey Finn, Grey Ghost, or Edson Tiger today. In fact, I suggest you do. So much that I recorded a whole podcast on the worthwhile enterprise. Show Notes: https://wetflyswing.com/321 Presented By: Reyr Gear, Dette Flies, Bearvault, Jackson Hole Fly Company Sponsors: https://wetflyswing.com/sponsors In this episode, we're fly fishing Iceland. Sindri Hlíðar Jónsson, co-owner and head guide at Fish Partner, walks us through what it's like to fish over there. We hear about which species are the most targeted and what you need to prepare for. Find out why there are no public waters and fisheries in Iceland - how all are privately owned and by whom. We also hear about the new lodge they're working on that has five different fisheries within a 20 mins drive. Tim Cammissa told us about his awesome trip to Iceland in a recent episode. Today, we confirm with Sindri why. Check out Sindri's Top 4 Tips for Fly Fishing Iceland. Hit that play button and you just might have your next destination! Fly Fishing Iceland Show Notes with Sindri 03:30 - Sindri and I connected at the Fly Fishing Show in Denver 04:45 - Sindri grew up in the suburb town of Reykjavic 06:00 - Fish Partner started in 2013 and Sindri started guiding there right then 06:50 - The 3 main species in Iceland are trout, Atlantic salmon, and arctic char 07:30 - Early April and into May is the start of the season to fish for sea-run browns. Salmon runs start coming in late June, July, and August. Then the fall, they get another round of the sea-run browns. The season closes on October 20th 09:20 - The best sea-run browns are located on the Southeast Coast of Iceland called, Skaftafell 10:30 - Fish Partner is opening a new lodge in June which will be called, Battle Hill Lodge, located right on the banks of one of the smaller tributaries, Thvera 12:30 - Hottest temperature month is July. Their big issue is the wind because it gets really windy up there so casting can be a challenge 13:44 - Sindri recommends bringing both single and double-handed rods - 7 and 8 wt, 12 and 13 foot 15:45 - Fish Partner have about 25 guides working for them 17:30 - Prime time for Atlantic salmon in Iceland is in July 19:20 - There is no such thing as public water in Iceland - all of the waters there are leased to outfitters, angling clubs, or whoever the highest bidder is 23:10 - Sea trout numbers have gone way up and Atlantic salmon in the last 2 years have been disappointing. 15 years ago, sea-run trout was not considered a sport fish in Iceland - they were "trash fish" or food so they make about 5 to 10 runs to the ocean and live up to 25 years 25:00 - They usually just catch and release. But if people want to have fish for the table, they can take you to the high mountain lakes and they're packed filled with arctic char - taking a few for sushi or the grill is fine for the fishery 29:00 - They use flies like Mickey Finn and Black Ghost. For nymphs, Pheasant Tail works great 30:30 - Start by emailing Fish Partner and tell them what you want to do and what you want to catch - they will set up a trip and the itinerary for you. Choose whatever day you want to start and finish, if it's available on their calendar, they will make it happen 32:15 - Sindri states that they have more fish in Iceland than in Norway and Scotland but their salmon are smaller. Norway has big salmons 33:15 - Iceland has some of the biggest sea trout. The only place you could compare it to is Argentina 38:40 - The two biggest hatches in Iceland are caddis and midges 39:45 - Reykjavic alone has about 12 fly shops. All Fish Partner lodges have small fly shops 45:00 - Most of the waters in Iceland have waterfalls because it's mountainous over there - there are about 10,000 waterfalls there 50:00 - Iceland is only about 5 hours flight from the US 52:30 - Sindri says do not eat or buy farmed Atlantic salmon and he tells us why. North Atlantic Salmon Fund is an organization dedicated to saving the North Atlantic Salmon from extinction. 54:25 - Super Tinsel and Hitch Tube are some of Sindri's go-to flies Fly Fishing Iceland Conclusion with Sindri So there you go. If you want to catch some of the largest sea-run trout.. If you want to catch arctic char and Atlantic salmon.. If you want to have the water all by yourself without competition.. If you want to enjoy nature and get away from people.. If you want just a 5-hour flight and get to your destination.. Visit Iceland! Don't forget to bring your thickest jacket! And bring more of them. Thanks for listening! Comment below if you find this blog post helpful. Show Notes: https://wetflyswing.com/321
Mickey Finn of Jetboy talks about his ROCK SCENE.
Today's guest has been a bit of a ghost int he GBH machine for more than a decade - since our founding really - and he's someone I think about every time someone asks me how GBH got started - and as you'll discover shortly, he had no idea. Greg Browne was the brewer at a brewpub in Chicago's NW suburbs - a place called Mickey Finn's. He was known for brewing a hefeweizen - a recipe he inherited from his predecessor when he took over as head brewer. More importantly, for me, he was the host of a weekly Beer School at The Map Room in Chicago - a midday gathering on Saturday's where guests would enjoy some bread and cheese and learn about beers in a thematic way - and the themes were whatever happened to be on Greg's mind that week. It's an incredible memory for me - from a time when I'd only had a smattering of craft beer experiences to rely on - and I hardly considered myself a fan of beer in any particular way. It was just causal and sometimes interesting fun. Most of my bar experiencers a the time involved $1 off specials of Blue Moon and some Golden Tee. Not exactly sophisticated stuff - but it was kind of the Chicago way. Map Room - and Greg Browne's beer school painted an entirely different picture however. And I'm forever indebted to that moment when he served me my first Saison Dupont. That's the beer that inspired GBH - and Greg is the one who created that moment, unbeknownst to him. But that's not the real reason we're talking today - that's a story we could have shared at any point in in past decade really. Today I'm talking to Greg because for the first time in a long time, I saw his name pop up as part of a new brewing project called Art History, and it recently started supplying two fantastic beers to Chicago's Hopleaf Bar. As far as I know the sis the first time Hopleaf has ever had a house beer. The venerated tap list there is a target for anyone trying to make a name for themselves in Chicago's beer scene. Brewers host parties just to celebrate getting on tao there for the first time if they're lucky enough to make the list at all. So for Greg to have a new gig - and so quickly become a mainstay on that list as a pair of house beers - is an unprecedented achievement. And for this episode, I reached out to Michael Roper of Hopleaf for his perspective on all that. It was a sign for me that it was finally time to get Greg on the podcast, share this story with him, and hear so much more about his own. It takes us deep into Chicago's craft brewing past - and paints pa picture of the future that I'm very excited about.
Mickey Finn, born Michael Shanahan, didn't find guiding… guiding found him. Mickey spends his days guiding in Australia's Snowy Mountains. EVE Michelson also known under the name "NO NAME" is a French songwriter - composer - interpreter. While still at college, she began composing at the age of 13, before leaving the school to devote herself passionately to her musical career. Eve then began to dig a spot on the electro music scene, composing many tracks in several musical groups. In 1981, she began with the ANANDA group in electronic music. Then she connects in 1982 with MICKEY FINN and FRAGMATIK, always in the same genre. From 1983 to 1987, she expanded her repertoire with Urgo BENZ composing and interpreting of industrial music. From 1985 to 1988 she was intermingling genres and groups , & also playing tirelessly with FARRAH DIOD OF ANTIFOGS, as electro and industrial. She continues her musical evolution with DA DA DA (electronic music) from 1988 to 1995. From 1995 to today, she is part of NO NAME ERAS HEAD Group, and produces the most extreme hardcore electronic as imaginable on ABLETON and ATARIS synthesizers, with an experimental scientific research approach . It was in 2016 that Eve Michelson decided to continue more actively the genre that is truly part of her deepest me, ELECTRO. Her true roots are influenced by elektro of German robotics, such as KRAFTWERK and industrial NEUBAUTEN. She follows her heart, and of course her boundless inspiration. She develops and leads a new style phenomenon: THE EVOLUTIVE ELECTRO. ▶ Eve Michelson - XXVI - LaserLightShow.org/eve Amazon - http://bit.ly/evemichelson Apple - https://apple.co/2JbSZHv Beatport - http://bit.ly/beatportelectro Deezer - http://bit.ly/2qIsrqq Instagram - www.instagram.com/evemichelson1933 Mixcloud - https://www.mixcloud.com/evemichelson Napster / Rhapsody - http://bit.ly/napsterelectro Pandora - http://pandora.com/artist/eve-michelson/evolutive-electro/ALcr39KxhnVpXr2 Soundcloud - https://soundcloud.com/evemichelson Spotify - https://spoti.fi/2qJw3Zj Tidal - http://bit.ly/2HcYOb3 Traxsource - http://bit.ly/2F0QchH Twitter - https://twitter.com/eve_michelson YouTube - https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLksR2mIY-PBcHRta9r4UM2QPATCOqoq1x

After the initial British Invasion broke out across the Globe, up and coming bands across England aspired to make it big but with a more gritty sound. Some bands still played pop but others added an edge to their sound. These are bands from the first wave of the new psychedelic era in Britain. We talk to Mickey Finn - Lead Singer of legendary San Francisco and Sunset Strip Hard Rock band JETBOY! Mickey takes us back to his early discovery of Punk Rock both American and British and his no holds barred approach to simply ignoring any musical trends and just being himself. His outgoing, larger than life persona would find him landing the frontman role which he became known for and Jetboy would explode from the Bay Area and into Sunset Strip history. Along the way Mickey is open and honest about the tragedy surrounding their first bass player Todd Crew and their relationship with Guns n Roses as well as trying hard in coming to terms with the past but continuing to be honest and excited about music and the future of this amazing band.
In this episode we nibble on a Fitzgerald comedy so light it could be meringue. Granted, the storyline of a harried husband who slips his wife a Mickey Finn of a sleeping potion so he can finish an important advertising campaign is probably today more of a wake-up call than the high-concept rib-tickler audiences in 1924 read it as. We explore how "Gretchen's Forty Winks" fit into the March 15 issue of the Saturday Evening Post where it appeared alongside forgotten fiction with titles like "Bumbums in Boxes." Such fluffy disposable short stories, we suggest, are akin to the innocuous sitcoms of our youth. We also reveal how the story parodies the 1920s' work/life balance movement, with antagonist George Tompkins embodying some of the sillier self-fulfillment initiatives of the times while protagonist Roger Halsey preaches a Calvin Coolidge-like gospel of productivity. We also delve into how Gretchen's flirtation with George reflects Fitzgerald's own anxieties about his wife's friendships with other men. Finally we trace the curious afterlife the story enjoyed in storytelling clubs and amateur theatricals. While no one will mistake the Halsey family's adventures in rapid-eye movement for great art, Fitzgerald did choose it to close his third story collection, All the Sad Young Men, and it received surprisingly high marks from reviewers. At the end of the day "Gretchen's Forty Winks," we insist, is far from a snooze---instead, it's a real sleeper!
Episode 63- Redemption for Mickey Finn who short changed us last week but turned it on in a big way this week. Young Mickey is wise beyond his years, with more experience than most when it comes to a fresh and varied approach to flyfishing for Australian Trout. Mickey is based out of Tumut NSW and lives and breathes fishing. Mickey is part of the Aussie Fly Fisher clan and guides out of his purpose built float boat most of the year in the snowy mountain region. Although Micky does have a tendency to make up town names, you will still hear in this show that he knows what he is talking about inside and out. A great show from a standout flyfisher of his generation who does look a little like Ewen McGregor as Obi Wan Kenobi. Also on this show, we turn up Votzy's Wide World of Sport and we also discuss leader material rotation. We also talk about the call of nature, that as early birds, we all have to deal with in a sometimes tasteful manner, but more often not.
What could be more relaxing than drifting down stream casting flies to rising trout? We look at drift boat fly fishing first cast on The Big Fish. Tumut based guide Mickey Finn cut his teeth on this form of fishing on the big rivers running out of the Rockies in the West of the USA and Josh Hutchins talks about the fishing options these new shallow draft fly fishing inflatables open up. Stinker has opened a can of worms asking our Big Fish listeners "where have all of the Tailor gone?" We speculate on some possible reasons why stocks have declined so dramatically around Port Stephens where Stinker wets a line.

2020 needs to go stand in the corner for awhile. Really. What? A novel swine flu? Great. Add to that the fact that the WHO says the 'Rona is speeding up and America, Teh Stoopid. Our Stoopid Problem is proving to be worse that our Opioid Problem, and they have similar characteristics. It's hard to slip someone heroin, but it's proving to be terrifyingly easy to slip waaaaay to many Americans a hit of Stoopid. Tennessee . . . Florida . . . Texas . . . Arizona . . . Missouri . . . . Tennessee: they've all been slipped the viral equivalent of a Mickey Finn.
Well, here we are with another show during the ‘Rona’, all intended to make you smile with some cheery musical numbers for your pleasure. An awful lot of effort goes into recording an episode as I’m sure you know, and I adore researching, pouring over notes, piling through tunes and internet pages to knock one together. The problem is I need to get the show ‘out there’ and grow the fan base to help make it a better show. As it’s run on a non-profit basis all expenditure falls on myself. Again, this is fine as my passion for doing it makes it worth the price. However, it would be very useful if I could get my fingers in a few pies to help with materials, tunes, bookings for events etc. So, if at all possible, could you please spread the word, share the show, and blow my horn for me lol. Thanks very much in advance and enjoy the show. 46th Show Tracklist: 1. Someone turned the light out – Our Plastic Dream 2. Sky flight – Dust 3. Gratefully dead – Eric Burdon & The Animals 4. Parade Founder Mickey Finn tells the story of how Snake Saturday came to life in 1983. The concept started as a promotion for Rodeway Inn, with four floats, a Grand Marshal and co-founder, Bill Grigsby. It was cold outside, only about ten degrees. The parade took place in the motel parking lot, allowing people to view from their hotel rooms and the coffee shop. And what would a parade be without a winner of Best of Parade? A young lady on the back of a Harley Davidson motorcycle wearing a bright green bikini took home the honor. After the parade, the North Kansas City mayor turned to Mickey Finn and said, “We might as well take it to the street next year.” And as they say, “the rest is history”. The parade has celebrated every year since, regardless of weather conditions and always on the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day.As the Snake Saturday Parade & Festival became the largest family fun Irish celebration in the area, it also generated an enormous amount of exposure and charitable donations benefiting local non-profit organizations. The process started after non-profit businesses were invited to build floats and compete for prize money. The response was overwhelming and community involvement soared to new heights. Snake Saturday Parade & Festival awards cash prizes to from 50 –100 local charities, totaling 1.6 million dollars to date. Saturday Parade & Festival is made possible by wonderful, dedicated people, businesses, schools, police, fire, city staff, donors, volunteers, planners, participants and sponsors including North Kansas City, North Kansas City Hospital, North Kansas City Beverage and many more. It is the commitment of the entire community to keeping these festivities safe and fun for the whole family that has cultivated our success and has put us on the map as one of the best parade celebrations in the Midwest region. Come, see what the excitement is all about!

Episode Description: Steven Interviews JETBOY guitarist Billy Rowe. We discuss the bands history, Rock and Roll Relic Guitars, and the newest album “Born To Fly”. What’s The Story: Founded in 1983 by guitarists Billy Rowe and Fernie Rod, JETBOY continues to carry their style of Rock N’ Roll into the 21st century with the same fury that existed 34 years ago. Long recognized as one of the perfecter of the glam genre, JETBOY was one of a handful of acts that got the attention of music fans and record executives alike. While Hollywood was loaded with musical talent, San Francisco had but one true leader at the time, and that leader was JETBOY. Now a cross-generational powerhouse, JETBOY is experiencing a resurgence in popularity that can only be attributed to their musical relevance. Rock N’ Roll fans the world over are beginning to revisit the music that helped to shape a generation, and is now becoming the soundtrack for their offspring. Songs like Feel the Shake, Heavy Chevy, Stomp it (Down to the Bricks), and their up rocked up version of Folsom Prison Blues have struck a chord with an increasingly more discerning audience. Celebrating their 25th anniversary In 2008, the founding members of JETBOY (Billy Rowe, Fernie Rod and Mickey Finn) are dedicated to bringing the party atmosphere back to Rock N’ Roll. In June 2017 the band signed a deal with Italian based label Frontiers Records. The band will record a full length album for the first time in over 20 years, Release date scheduled for 2018. - Bio From Jetboy Rocks Website Everyone’s got a Rock N Roll story to tell, so tell us yours @growinuprock.comLike us and leave us a Review on our Face Book page - @growinuprock or Podchaser Follow us on Twitter - @growinuprock because let’s face it I need all the friends I can get!! Finally recovered from the Arts & Seizures sharkives is this jewel of blues and trouble! Originally recorded July 30, 2017, this episode was plagued with technical difficulties and thought to be unrecoverable... it took HRN's best engineer and Edison's personal touch to restore this show, but there was no way we were going out without taking it to church one more time. Tara and Margaret of Mr Airplane Man call on Jesus, Mickey Finn sits in on organ, and Edison speaks in tongues! Testify!!! Arts & Seizures is powered by Simplecast.
In July 1886, Steve Brodie, a resident of the Bowery neighborhood of New York City, made a bet to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge, into the river below, in exchange for the money to open a saloon. This was a 135 foot jump. He became legendary for the leap. But, did it actually happen? Listen and decide what you think! Also, on this episode, we present a short story from 1902 - Maude and Percy Visit the Bowery - which gives a humorous (?) glimpse into what happens when a naïve upper middle class young couple decide to experience the excitement and terrors of the Bowery. Although the story is fiction, it contains many mentions of real places and people of the time period, including Steve Brodie (!) and McGurk’s saloon, which was depicted in detail on a recent episode of our podcast. And, for the enjoyment of our listeners, the story of Maud and Percy is presented here, as an audio play. HISTORICAL REFERENCES Steve Brodie: New York Times, July 24, 1886.

By Wayne Hall From Kings Cross to the Largs Pier Hotel In Sydney 2000 my mate Budgie was telling me a story of a band that he saw in Adelaide in 1980. Budgie recalls a harmonica player that played hard and a band that shook the foundations of the Arkabar Hotel in Adelaide. The years go past, and I'm trawling through 7 inch single records for a jukebox restoration, when I see one from a band called Mickey Finn. A quick phone call to Budgie confirms that this was the band that he saw New Year's Eve 1980. Researching on the internet, there was little about this band, and even less on the harp player called Uncle. One lead I did have was that well-known Aussie rocker John Swan (Swannee) had provided back-up vocals on their album. When I was in Adelaide about 2 years ago (2012), Swannee was playing a gig, so I made contact with his agent and arranged to meet with him. Back then I didn't ask him about the Mickey Finn band, we mainly discussed ideas for songwriting. Brief as it was. But there was a singer I approached earlier that week in an Adelaide bar, and I asked if he knew of the band Mickey Finn, and more importantly, did he know 'Uncle' John Ayers the harp player. He said he thought that maybe Uncle was driving taxis, and had sort of disappeared from the music scene. I always felt that someone should do a feature on finding this harp player. It's all good hoping that someone someday will do the research, and to just wait for that day. That day might never come. Thanks to the CTMO and CBAA for providing the support and knowledge to undertake this journey, I took up the challenge, and during this time, numerous unplanned events unfolded. Ron Alphabet, the promoter of bands at The Largs Pier Hotel during the 70s and 80s fell ill, and a set of bands was united to play a concert for him. In that line up, some of the Mickey Finn band would be performing in new separate groups. I got to meet Uncle in a chance meeting at the concert, and also a planned meeting with Mauri Berg, the guitar player from The Mickey Finn Band. It seems Adelaide is a massive breeding ground for the Australian pub rock sound that we know today. This band has played and has supported household names like Jim Barnes, Swannee, Bon Scott, Barrie McAskill and Dutch Tilders. Jim Barnes recruited Bruce Howe (bass) and John Freeman ( drums) from the Mickey Finn band when he went out solo this time 30 years ago. From this I have discovered old/new Australian music to follow up on, bands like Headband, Hush, Wendy Saddington, Fraternity, The Levi Smith Clefs, Billy Thorpe and Lobby Loyde, Kevin Borich, Gwyn Ashton, David Blight and the Flyers. Also international acts like The J Geils Band, and blues men Little Walter and James Cotton. These were bands that influenced Uncle in his style of playing. A few of the members have been nominated to be inducted into the South Australian Hall of Fame later this year (2014). One day I'd like to sit down with Uncle and re-record an old tune, or even cut something new.
