When it was revealed that Oprah Winfrey's production company, Harpo Productions, was paid $1 million in conjunction with Oprah interviewing Kamala Harris, many people were surprised and some were upset. This payment, however, was consistent with campaign finance law. This podcast addresses the payments to celebrities for appearing at campaign events, whether for Democrat or Republican candidates. The podcast argues that the Federal Election Commission (FEC) should create a new rule stating that campaigns must disclose the payments to the celebrities at the time of the performances.
As The Oprah Winfrey Show goes from strength to strength, Oprah Winfrey starts building her media empire by creating Harpo Productions. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez as the two debated illegal migration during a House Oversight Committee hearing. 3:20pm- Chuck Schumer is an Election Denier. On Friday, the Associated Press called the Pennsylvania U.S. Senate race in favor of Republican challenger Dave McCormick—but sitting Senator Bob Casey has refused to concede! Does this mean Schumer is an election denier? 3:25pm- While appearing on CNN with Dana Bash, Senator Bernie Sanders defended himself—and other politicians like Donald Trump—for appearing on Joe Rogan's podcast. 3:30pm- John Yoo—Emanuel S. Heller Professor of Law at University of California at Berkeley & a Visiting Fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to answer the question: now that Donald Trump has won a second term as president, what will happen to all of the legal challenges that were brought against him? Professor Yoo says the two federal cases brought by Jack Smith and the Department of Justice “are dead for sure.” The cases in New York and Georgia are both flawed—in fact, there has been no progress made in Georgia and it could potentially be dropped. He argues that because the NY case is so legally unsound, Trump should appeal all the way to the Supreme Court. But could Judge Juan Merchan sentence President Trump to jail time? 3:50pm- How Did Kamala's Campaign Squander $1 Billion? According to a report from Politico's California bureau chief Christopher Cadelago, Kamala Harris's presidential campaign raised over $1 billion and—despite her campaign only lasting just over 100 days—they have found themselves in debt. Other reports suggest that the campaign paid Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Productions $1 million for hosting a town hall event—and paid the Call Her Daddy podcast six-figures for set construction. 4:05pm- On Monday, Donald Trump announced he will be appointing Congresswoman Elise Stefanik to his Cabinet as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. He also said he would appoint former Congressman Lee Zeldin to serve as the Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protective Agency (EPA). 4:15pm- While appearing on CNN with Dana Bash, Senator Bernie Sanders stated that the Democrat Party has largely abandoned the working class. 4:20pm- Actress Justine Bateman took to social media to call out the far-left. She explains that over the last four years “common sense was discarded, intellectual discussion was demonized.” 4:30pm- Ryan Manion— Chief Executive Officer of the Travis Manion Foundation & Author of “The Knock at the Door”—joins The Rich Zeoli Show for Veterans Day. She reacts to the outrageous “anti-Veterans Day” protests taking place on Columbia University's campus. To learn more about the Travis Manion Foundation, visit: https://www.travismanion.org 4:50pm- Over the weekend, Donald Trump used social media to announce that Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo would not serve in his administration. According to rumors, Donald Trump Jr. played a key role in the decision. He views both Haley and Pompeo as potential rivals to a J.D. Vance presidential run in 2028. 4:55pm- According to Barack Obama's biographer, the 44th President is nervous that his legacy may be irreparably damaged now that Donald Trump has won a second term. 5:05pm- David Urban—Political Commentator for CNN & Volunteer Senior Advisor to Donald Trump—joins The Rich Zeoli Show for Veterans Day. Plus he recaps Trump's big election night win. Over the course of my life, I have been so lucky to have incredibly strong women as examples for my life. If you have read my book Confident You, Simple Habits to live the life you have imagined, you have learned a lot about these influential women. This podcast and my new Radio show have also allowed me to meet incredible women I love and admire. Carmelita Tiu and I first recorded for the radio show, and I knew our conversation needed to also live here on this podcast. Service, creativity, relationships, and human potential inspire Carmelita (Cat) Tiu as an attorney, coach, podcaster, philanthropist, parent & partner. After receiving her art and law degree, she worked for several years as an attorney at Harpo Productions, creator of The Oprah Winfrey Show and several OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network programs then pivoted to the design and advertising world. She's been an adjunct professor at DePaul University and Columbia College Chicago and serves on the boards of various cultural and community service organizations. As a curious and committed mom to two daughters, Cat launched the podcast "Know Them, Be Them, Raise Them," a show that helps mindful moms be and raise strong women. So they can show up powerfully and intentionally for themselves and their daughters. She also helps high-achieving moms live authentically and parent intentionally so they can move confidently towards meaningful goals, find more fulfillment in their lives, and have faith in the legacy they are creating. As a business and life strategy coach, I want to make sure we, as women, find the best way to support each other and create the kind of tomorrow our girls today can grow up into with confidence. The more work we do for ourselves to grow and become stronger and better, the more they will see what is possible and become that as well. The Gambrell-Fowler family pose for a portrait. From left are Keith Gambrell, Gary Fowler, Cheryl Fowler, Troy Fowler, and Paris Fowler. Oprah Winfrey began her crusade to change the healthcare system when COVID-19 elevated our national awareness of health inequities in our country – a result of exacerbated health outcomes triggered by coronavirus infection across racial lines and the longstanding preexisting disparities that were already there. She launched The Color of Care education campaign to prepare current and future doctors, nurses and medical professionals to play an active role in combating systemic racism in the delivery of healthcare, as well as provide others with the necessary tools to advocate for and empower patients who experience these inequities. The Color of Care movement for more equitable healthcare in America began when Oprah Winfrey was inspired to take action following the death of Gary Fowler. In this episode, we discuss the tragic and unnecessary death of Gary Fowler inflicted by a grossly negligent and racist healthcare system. Multiple hospitals have the blood of Mr. Fowler on their hands; however, this is a story of hope in that his death started a national campaign for health equity. Oprah says the following about the death of Mr. Gary Fowler: “I read a story that haunted me…the story of the Fowler family. When Mr. Fowler became ill, three different hospitals turned him away. He went home, sat in his recliner, and died. I wondered how many different Gary Fowlers there are out there. What if I told you the biggest indicator of how long you are going to live is your zip code? What if access to lifesaving care for somebody that you love depended on the color of their skin? The COVID pandemic exposed a tragic divide in our healthcare system. We now need to stand up, and we need to do something about it. We need to change an entire system. This is something you start now! Together we can make it better.” The story of Gary Fowler's death is the focal point of the recent documentary, The Color of Care that premiered on the Smithsonian Channel earlier this summer. From executive producer, Oprah Winfrey, this new documentary chronicles how people of color suffer from systemically substandard healthcare in the United States and how COVID-19 exposed the tragic consequences of this inequity. The Color of Care documentary traces the origins of racial health disparities to practices that began during slavery in the U.S. and continue today. Using moving testimony from those who lost loved ones to COVID-19 and frontline medical workers in overwhelmed hospitals, it interweaves expert interviews and powerful data to expose the devastating toll of embedded racism in our healthcare system. The Color of Care is produced by Harpo Productions with executive producers Oprah Winfrey, Terry Wood, and Catherine Cyr. The film is directed by OSCAR®-nominated and Emmy® award-winning director Yance Ford and produced by Kate Bolger and Yance Ford. Our guest this week is CEO Powerhouse. He held Executive Vice President and President positions for Organizations and Entertainment giants such as XM Satellite Radio, Harpo Productions, and OWN “The Oprah Winfrey Network”! Moving to Manhattan Beach in 2011, he took up Surfing and immediately became hooked. Which, just like for most people it became a healthy daily ritual to balance life and job stress. But, whom would have known, and it is a bit ironic that this Oklahoma native and media guru would be running the World Surf League just a few years later. We excited to hear his story, his take on the current season final 5 showdown at Lowers, and any insight to what WLS is working on in the future. In 2011, Lisa Weldon cut a map of Manhattan into 20 pieces and walked one piece per day until she covered the entire island. After walking each day, she came home and recorded her findings in her blog, then shared her words and photos through social media. It was from this experience that she learned the power of storytelling. The next year, she spent thirty days walking every arrondissement of Paris. Huffington Post invited her to chronicle her walks, then published her first submission on the front cover of their “Living Fearlessly” section. Oprah's network, Harpo Productions, caught wind of her walks and invited her to give Cindy Crawford advice on turning 50.And now? She's just released her memoir. Did sexism play a role in the coverage of Meghan Markle? When Harry and Meghan got married in 2018, the coverage of the pair was overwhelmingly positive. Six months later it had totally changed. Why? Amol Rajan explores the emergence of the ‘Duelling Duchesses' narrative, which pitted Meghan Markle against Kate Middleton. On today's episode of “The Language of Love,” Dr. Laura Berman sits down with one of her dear friends Sheri Salata. Salata was an executive producer for “The Oprah Show” as well as the president of the Oprah Winfrey Network and Harpo Productions. Since leaving Oprah, Salata began to focus more intentionally on her own personal growth and leaned into the power of ‘the beautiful no.'What is the beautiful no? Salata says that her people-pleasing nature and her desire to excel in her career and her personal relationships led her to struggle with setting boundaries and saying no, whether it was to opportunities or favors or constantly giving to those around her. Like many people, especially women, Salata says she struggled with codependence and was unable to prioritize her own needs and emotional health. This left her always feeling unfulfilled and disconnected from her own self-worth.On this episode, Salata and Dr. Berman talk about Salata's book “The Beautiful No,” and what led her to finally grow into the power of no and learn to not only be comfortable setting boundaries, but for it to come naturally and easily, without feelings of guilt or regret. This is an episode that is a must-listen for anyone who ever struggles with setting boundaries or putting themselves first!

It’s Women’s History Month, and Dr. Venus is excited to celebrate Black Women Billionaires. Yes, there are other Black Women Billionaires besides Oprah, and now, becoming a Black Woman Billionaire is historical defiance. Back in the day, Black Women’s work purchased the American Dream and made others rich. Now, Black Women Billionaires PROVIDE the capital. Dr. Venus spotlights four Black Women Billionaires, all-powerful and extremely diversified in their investments and sectors. She also discusses the painful historical relationship between capitalism and Black Women, and how we must change the narrative and work together to heal historical trauma, be ready to receive, and transcend to Billionaire status. Key Takeaways: [6:30] Dr. Venus is DONE! White supremacy pollutes things, and she has chosen to put her energy and effort on to bigger and better things. She has gratitude for other things to focus on, such as her truth-teller tribe and the team behind her new tech company. [8:57] Dr. Venus walks back the relationship between Black Women and the pain associated with capitalism. Black Women in North America (and worldwide) were used just as bodies to produce and make others rich, their loved ones were sold, so it’s no wonder our relationship to money is messed up. [11:26] Being strong is not a character trait. It is a generationally passed down survival strategy that kept our ancestors alive. When it comes to making money, Black Women have been the work-horse for the American dream. Work has been associated with trading hours for dollars and being socially rewarded for being selfless and stoic. The challenge is to embrace a deep knowing that we have been quick to make other people rich, but we are beyond capable of making our own money, and it is our birthright to do so. [14:27] When we think about Black Women Billionaires, often the only person that comes to mind for us is Oprah. In order for there to be many more, we must give ourselves permission for this level of wealth and really know internally that we are ready to receive it. We also must rise above the feeling that we don’t deserve it because we didn’t work hard enough for it. [15:10] To become a billionaire, it’s a state of being, just like it is going from 5 to 6 figures. [15:57] The social currency of Black culture makes White billionaires, and Dr. Venus is ready for a change, and for Black Women to work together to make each other more prosperous. [17:25] When you are a billionaire, you have the power to deeply affect not just you, but your loved ones for generations to come. You can put money towards the politician you want, build a hospital in your community, or build your legacy in a way that is meaningful for you. In order to do that, you are going to have to grow out of providing only service-based business. [20:43] Ngina Kenyatta is the Former First Lady of Kenya and is the widow of the country's first president, Jomo Kenyatta, and also the mother of President Uhuru Kenyatta. Her empire includes real estate, hospitality, and owning thousands of acres of prime land in Kenya. She has an estimated net worth of $1 billion. [20:39] Folorunsho Alakija also sits on a net worth of $1 billion and a renowned Nigerian businesswoman who has established herself in the oil, printing, real estate, and fashion industries. She works as the managing director of the Rose of Sharon Group and serves as the executive vice-chairman of Famfa Oil Limited. [23:08] Isabel dos Santos, the richest woman in Africa, is an Angolan billionaire businesswoman who is also famous as the eldest child of the former Angolan President, José Eduardo dos Santos. Her net worth is $1.7 billion, and she made the vast majority of her wealth by purchasing stakes in companies based in Angola. [25:013] Oprah Winfrey has a net worth of $2.6 Billion, and is dubbed the “Queen of All Media”. The popular talk show host, actress, philanthropist and producer is considered the wealthiest African American of the 20th century. The media magnate is the chairwoman and chief executive officer of Harpo Productions. [26:27] Dr. Venus loves the diversity of these amazing Black Women Billionaires. [27:55] Back in 1913, Sarah Rector became the richest Black girl in America, at only 11 years old. This is not something that is widely taught or talked about in schools today. We talk about Black people overcoming, but we were already wealthy. [30:31] It’s important that we celebrate us for all that we do and the complexity of all that we are. [32:27] Now is the time to get ahead of the AI curve and start to think about how to make money digitally. Quotes: “If you don’t know your worth, you will squander it, even if you are born into it.” “Even in Black history books, we don’t talk about money. It’s a big deal to me that in Women’s History Month that we look for ways that we’ve won.” “You aren’t an exception, you are an original. You come from a lineage of women that soared and it’s your birthright to have your own money and highways.” “When Black Women work together and have their own money we transform the world.” Mentioned: Dr. Venus Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram “Hot Mess Millionaire” Amazon Pilot ”Hot Mess Millionaire” Complete Series (https://www.youtube.com/c/DrVenusOpalReese) Join the conversation! Today's Guest: Richard Kramer, TV writer, "Thirtysomething," "My So-called Life," "Tales of the City," "Once and Again"; novelist, These Things Happen Watch this exclusive Mr. Media interview with writer Richard Kramer, writer for TV's "Thirtysomething," "My So-called Life," "Tales of the City" and "Once and Again" and author of the coming-of-age novel These Things Happen, by clicking on the video player above! Mr. Media is recorded live before a studio audience of current and former teenaged girls who can’t believe that the Claire Danes in “My So-called Life” and the Claire Danes in “Homeland” is playing two completely different characters – wink, wink… in the NEW new media capital of the world… St. Petersburg, Florida! Order 'These Things Happen' by Richard Kramer, available in print or ebook from Amazon.com by clicking on the book cover above! “Thirtysomething.” “My So-called Life.” “Tales of the City.” “Once and Again.” I feel confident saying that I have seen the complete runs of two television series with which writer, director and producer Richard Kramer has been associated — “Thirtysomething” and “Once and Again.” RICHARD KRAMER podcast excerpt: "It's a coming-of-age story but it's not about teenagers. And it's a coming out story that is not about gayness." And that I may have never seen a single episode of the other two, “My So-called Life” and “Tales of the City.” Not that there’s anything wrong with that. RICHARD KRAMER: "We can't believe how Claire Danes grew up. We think of her at 14, when she was this little girl who just came in to audition for 'My So-called Life,' having done one TV show, and we went, 'Oh, my God, who is this?' She was completely focused and adult at 14." “Thirtysomething” and “Once and Again” were two shows that spoke to me at times when I matched up with their demographic: young, married, and, um, still married, I guess. (Have I ever been not married? It’s so hard to remember.) As for “My So-called Life,” I was long past high school when it enjoyed its short but spirited run. And I’ve never been gay – happy, sure – so Armistead Maupin’s “Tales of the City” was not a show I was drawn to for any reason. But now that Richard Kramer has added the word “novelist” to his resume, his first book, These Things Happen, has almost incidentally rolled together elements of all four of the aforementioned TV series — straight marriage, remarriage, gay marriage, straight teens, gay teens, and lots of delicious sounding food — into one uniquely organized tale. RICHARD KRAMER: "At the beginning, 'Thirtysomething' was about a moment in your life when you could still drop in on your friends, unannounced. And when you could walk through the door and it was not about anything other than fun. But then as you get on a bit, you have to call ahead. You have to book the time." These Things Happen came out in paperback this week and HBO recently committed to a half-hour comedy pilot based on the book and produced by Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions. Not bad, Richard.
