Es hätte nicht weiter davon entfernt sein können, wie ich mir die Musik vorstellte, die ich machte. Es ist also eine Ironie, dass ich das Projekt von Kompani Giraff so verlockend fand." Inspiriert wurden die Songs, die übrigens auch ohne Stars in der Manege hervorragend wirken, vom Roman "Verzeichnis einiger Verluste" der deutschen Autorin Judith Schalansky; das Stück "Guericke's Unicorn" bezieht sich obendrein auf die vor über 300 Jahren vom Naturforscher Otto von Guericke hergestellte angebliche fossile Rekonstruktion jenes Fabelwesens, die in Wirklichkeit aus den Knochen verschiedener Tiere wie Wollhaarmammut und Narwal geschaffen wurde und den Musiker seit Langem faszinierte. The HSM Sheffield has just been sunk by an Exocet days after the General Belgrano was sent to the depths by two torpedoes. This war was turning nastier by the minute and not helped by the media on both sides – British Warship sunk by Argies – yelled the Sun Headline The Daily Star was a bit more direct – its headline was merely:SUNK!The odd thing was that the Sheffield had not actually gone down by the time these stories were published  –  it would take three days for the Sheffield to eventually roll over but there was no denying the palpable shock which ran through the British nation on the morning of the 5th May 1982 the day after the crew abandoned ship. The mood in the war cabinet that day reflected these views, with John Nott the most shaken of Margaret Thatchers' ministers. He told the House of commons later “It has been a dreadful event…” but the first effect was to infuse the British diplomatic efforts with new energy and foreign secretary Francis Pym was on the move once more. Just a few days earlier he had been waving his arms about airily dismissing the peace initiatives in a condescending manner, now he was shocked into action. Meanwhile, since the beginning of May, the SAS and Special Boat Service had not been idle. Parties from G squadron SAS and the SBS began landing ashore on the Falklands from the 1st May to assess the strength and condition of the Argentinian forces. Rear Admiral Woodward had ordered the frigate HMS Alacrity to steam at full speed through the Falkland Sound – the passage between East and West Falklands. The plan was to pressurise the Argentine garrison and to prove that the British had naval superiority. One year later, on June 15, they were granted bail and released.Natasha and Devangana are both students at Jawaharlal Nehru University and members of Pinjra Tod, a women's collective. In this interview with Nidhi Suresh, they talk about their experience in prison, state repression, and Pinjra Tod's participation in the citizenship law protests.“Through this regime over the last four to five years, we have been seeing an increasing repression by this government through the use of various laws, whether it is sedition or UAPA,” Devangana says. “It was quite shocking to be booked under a stringent law like the UAPA which is an attack on the student community and its rising voices, and equally an attack on the Muslim community.”Natasha says, “One of the things we have learnt through our journey at Pinjra Tod is women's freedom cannot be achieved in isolation. This struggle for freedom is not in isolation from other struggles.” She describes the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens as an attempt by the government to “change the nature of this country, the nature of this state, the nature of the constitution itself”.They also talk about the sense of community among people in similar circumstances to their own.Listen.
