Welcome to Paranormal Spectrum, where we illuminate the enigmatic corners of the supernatural world. I'm your host, Barnaby Jones, and today we have a very special guest joining us:Zach Bales has had an interest in the paranormal for as long as he can remember. Growing up in rural Kentucky in the foothills of Appalachia, Bales spent much of his youth fascinated by tales of ghosts, monsters, and “little green men.” His interest in the paranormal has taken him to the far corners of the North American continent and to twenty-eight countries on five continents.Over the years, Bales has come face to face with many of Earth's most compelling mysteries—from the jungles of Latin America to the antique lands of Northern Africa, from the moors of England and Scotland to the cradle of civilization in the Middle East. Bales documented many of these encounters in his five books—The Amateur's Guide to Ghost Hunting, The Expert's Guide to Ghost Hunting, The Bigfooter's Atlas, The UFO Chaser's Atlas, and The Atlas of the Unexplained: Mothman. In December 2020, The Bigfooter's Atlas was recognized as the “Book of the Year” by the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine. Bales' fascination with folklore and storytelling led him to pursue a career in the study of English language and literature. After obtaining a BA from Eastern Kentucky University and an MA from the University of the Cumberlands, Bales sought a position in Secondary English Education, where he has spent the better part of two decades. In October 2020, Bales was recognized as the Kentucky Teacher of the Week. Bales is a regular on the convention and festival circuit, appearing alongside his wife, Melissa, at events throughout the United States. Bales has been featured in television and film as well as on a number of nationally syndicated radio programs. In 2022, Bales opened Paranormal Roadtripper's Nightmare Gallery in Somerset, Kentucky, which features his collection of curiosities—a menagerie of the unusual, the unexplained, and the otherworldly—as well as a one-of-a-kind gift shop. Becoming a published children's book author is truly her childhood dream come true. Before pursuing authorship, she worked in the world of real estate for several years, helping people find and build their new dream homes. She is an alumni of Missouri State University in Springfield, MO, where she studied Secondary English Education.Madison currently lives in the vibrant beach town of Venice, Florida (the shark tooth capital of the world) with her husband and two adorable kiddos. Her debut picture book, Tiki Tim, was largely inspired by her experience as the "new kid" -- something she understands all too well, as she moved with her family 10 times across multiple states by the time she graduated high school. At the start of the new millenium, she spent some pretty formative years on the island of Oahu in Hawaii -- an experience that also majorly influenced the creation of Tiki Tim and his home of Adventure Bay.Aside from writing fun, engaging children's stories, she enjoys playing in the sunshine with her spirited girl and joyful boy, reading a suspenseful, edge-of-your-seat novel beachside or poolside, and flexing her creative passions in various forms (crafting, jewelry-making, sketching, you name it).She is a gift-giver, a loyal friend, an ocean lover and a bit of a clean freak. She LOVES to read and believes one is never too old to enjoy the magic of a picture book.https://www.booksbymadisoncaputi.comhttps://instagram.com/booksbymadisoncaputi/https://facebook.com/booksbymadisoncaputi/Get the MOMS WHO CREATE JOURNAL: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CNH2WH8J?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_58ZRYVG6G1FE6ZMDKRADSupport the showSupport the Show.Follow Moms Who Create:Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/momswhocreatepodcast/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/momswhocreatepodcastMonthly Meeting Book Club - https://www.facebook.com/groups/momswhocreatebookclubWebsite - https://www.momswhocreate.com/
Improve your job search outcomes with these tips Erin Wolfram shares on this episode of Leadership on the Links! Erin is a Certified Professional Resume Writer (CPRW) and Professional Etiquette Consultant who is the owner of Career Advantage Golf – career consulting services geared toward professionals in golf course maintenance and turf management. Her business partners with the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) to provide its members with free resume and cover letter review services, along with additional discounted career services. Prior to becoming a business owner, Erin worked in career services and career course development. Erin has her B.S. in Secondary English Education from Kansas State University and a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology and a Master of Science in Educational Technology from The University of Kansas. In this episode, Erin Wolfram of Career Advantage Golf shares insights aspiring superintendents and other golf professionals can use to stand out in their job search. Demonstrate the Value You Can Bring After reviewing thousands of resumes, Erin can confidently say many job seekers are very duty and responsibility focused. While this can be a great way to highlight your experience, it's important to also demonstrate what you have accomplished in previous roles. Showcasing successful projects, leadership strengths, and tangible results all help differentiate yourself from other candidates. Her advice is to highlight how your leadership skills positively impacted your facility, crew, and the overall organization. Update Your Application Materials on a Regular Basis It's very common for Erin to run into job seekers who haven't updated their application materials, such as their resume, cover letter, and portfolio, in over a decade. Of course, this often leaves these job seekers little time to update their materials and submit a polished application. Erin recommends taking a more proactive approach by regularly updating these materials, even if you are not actively applying for jobs. This ensures your information is accurate, up to date, and not rushed. Tailor Your Application to Each Role Hiring managers can spot an application that was copy and pasted from another. Erin recommends first developing a strong foundational resume and then tweaking it to adhere to the job you're applying for. It's important to show employers that you put the effort into your application. Hiring managers want to see that you can communicate your specific strengths as a candidate in relation to the role. Take an Active Interest in Your Profession Don't just join professional associations, but take an active role in them. Go to the meetings and annual conferences, network with members, build relationships, and really market yourself. By doing this, you are showing others that you are committed to your industry and professional development. You will soon find that by fostering these connections, more opportunities will come your way. Enjoy this episode with Career Advantage Golf owner Erin Wolfram… Soundbytes 19:21-19:46 “I think, in this industry, in particular, portfolios are important. And I find that a lot of people don't have a portfolio. And again, sometimes they are requested to bring a portfolio to an interview, and then there's this mad dash to get something together that could be much better if they would have started early. So I think portfolios are a great way to market yourself in this industry. ” 20:47-21:14 “In order to really market yourself in an interview, you want to provide specific answers that give quality examples that demonstrate the value that you've brought to your previous organizations that you will then bring to this future organization. So, really thinking about specific examples that demonstrate your greatest skills, strengths, and qualifications.” Quotes “The folks who I work with who utilize LinkedIn, and utilize it effectively, are marketing themselves better than others.” “Think of examples that you want to share with others. And know that it's not bragging, it's not being conceited. It's what you have to do to demonstrate your value.” “Get with your partner, get with your friends, get with someone like me, and actually practice answering questions, because it's not something that's comfortable, right?” “I do recommend that you get some advice from somebody else in your industry.” Links mentioned in this episode: Tyler Bloom Consulting: https://tylerbloomconsulting.com/ Career Advantage Golf: https://careeradvantagegolf.com/ Connect with Erin Wolfram on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/erinwolfram/ | https://www.linkedin.com/company/careeradvantagegolf/

On this week's episode of Out d'Coup LIVE I am joined by student organizers Paul Berlet, Mattieu Maier, and Samantha Marencik from Kutztown University Activists. Paul Berlet is a junior Secondary English Education major. He gained grassroots organizing experience working with Kutztown Students for Sanders and most recently with Healthy Campus Bill of Rights, a group of concerned professors, community members, parents, and students that aimed to put pressure on Ku's administration regarding the fall 2020 reopening plan. Paul believes in the power of direct action to be able to empower students and employees to demand dignity from the decision-makers and bosses that continue to put profits over people. Sam Marncik is a Sophomore Music Education major. She was excited to expand and solidify her political ideology on her arrival at Kutztown. Prior to attending Kutztown, Sam was the president of her high school's gay/straight alliance. At KU, she joined the Bernie Sanders campaign where she began to learn the importance of grassroots organizing. She had always seen herself as a humanitarian but her experience and ability to lead helped propel KUA to the successful organization it is today. Matthieu Maier is a Sophomore Music Education major at KU. Upon his arrival at KU in 2019, he didn’t have any strong political affiliations. However, events over the past year opened his eyes to the truth of progressive and leftist policy. He believes in the power of the collective and uplifting the working class from the oppression of the ruling class. These beliefs serve as driving forces behind Matthieu’s participation in KUA and desire to ensure safety to all students and employees of KU. The Kutztown University Activists are a non-hierarchical group of students who formed in response to Kutztown University's negligent reopening this fall. They are fighting to end worker abuse, a safe COVID-19 plan, better student health services, and true student empowerment. KU Activists seek to create a new culture at Kutztown that empowers the students to be able to make changes regarding their own educational experience and the society more broadly.

Our friends Dr. Mike T Nelson and Jodie Fabulous Nelson are a perfect example of 'opposites attract.' And their own Mr. Mole is an example of a perfect way to teach your kids about that thing that they never want to do... SLEEP! “Mr. Mole is a scientist who reads research for fun . . .” This is a line from the original children’s book authored by Dr. Mike Nelson, Jodie Nelson, and illustrated by the children and child-like people in their family. “CUZ I DUG UP THE RESEARCH ALREADY.” - Mr. Mole Let's get started... About Dr. Mike T. Nelson and Jodie Fabulous Nelson Dr. Mike T Nelson and Jodie Fabulous Nelson are a perfect example of opposites attract. Dr. Mike T. Nelson, PhD, MSME, CSCS, CISSN, is a research fanatic who specializes in metabolic flexibility and heart rate variability, as well as an online trainer, adjunct professor, faculty member at the Carrick Institute, presenter, creator of the Flex Diet Cert, kiteboarder, and (somewhat incongruously) heavy-metal enthusiast. The techniques he's developed, and the results Mike gets for his clients have been featured in international magazines, in scientific publications, and on websites across the globe. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, lifting odd objects, reading research, and kiteboarding as much as possible. Jodie Nelson has a bachelors degree in both Secondary English Education and Communication. And since she loves words so much, she went back to school to get a masters in communication. A published author, lover of dance and theater, Jodie experiences everything as a Broadway musical. The Mr. Mole Book project was a culmination of combined Mike and Jodie superpowers --- brash unfiltered creativity marries sciencey research. Mr. Mole Goes to Sleep Who is Mr. Mole? Mr. Mole is a character is based on Dr. Mike’s love for the acquisition and practical application of science to fitness and life. The Mr. Mole character actually is Dr. Mike because he also reads medical research for fun! Each article Mr. Mole reads leads him into a research rabbit hole. He happily shares his geeky findings with friends like you, which is why you'll see Mr. Mole sprinkled throughout Dr. Mike's website. Seeing Mr. Mole means there’s more in-depth discussion to be had about that particular topic or that there are more sciencey references attached. From co-author Jodie Fabulous Nelson Mr. Mole started as a funny saying between Mike and me. He liked to turn off all the lights as it got closer to bedtime. Me? I can’t see very well in the dark. So, I always turn lights on in each room as the sun starts to go down. I one night, as Mike left his desk from a long session of research rabbit-holing, he came around the corner squinting into my brightly lit room. I said, “Hey there, Mr. Mole. How’s it going?” That little exchange started a funny conversation every time I would find him huddled in the dark researching at his desk as I came in to switch the lights on. After one of these nights, one of us brought up the idea to write a children’s’ book about Mr. Mole going to bed. And then the idea got bigger. “What if we write a children’s’ book about healthy sleep habits that adults will read to their children?” The action steps would be simple enough for a child, yet probably things that many adults haven’t incorporated into their sleep and bedtime ritual. This is how Mr. Mole was born and he’s evolved so much since then. It’s going to be a wonderful book for everyone. We can’t wait to share it with you! Want Mr. Mole in YOUR Home? The power of being in the now is real but goals require future thinking too. How do you bridge the two? How do you plan and be in the moment? How do you set a big goal and then step back AND keep the big picture in mind? My guests today are two of my most popular guests so I brought them back on the show, together for the first time, to discuss focus, being present, setting goals and preparing for the new year. Swami Durga Das and Swami Anjani ask us to ask ourselves one really big question as we end the year and begin the new one. If you want to know what that question is that will change the way you think of, well, everything, you will have to listen in. It is an age old question that I am still working through. I think I know the answer yet I am uncertain. It has taken on new meaning since my mom passed away. When you find the answer to the question for yourself, let me know so I can hold that space for you! Swami Durga Das Hutner is the CEO of Kashi Ashram, an interfaith intentional community founded in 1976, more than 40 years ago. Durga Das had begun studying Martial Arts in1980; after many years of practice, he earned a 5th Dan Master’s degree in Tae Kwon Do and trained for the 1988 Olympic Games. He was the Florida State Champion in fighting from 1986 through 1988. Throughout this time Durga Das continued to be an integral part of the Kashi community. In 1996, he was ordained by Ma Jaya as a Swami (selfless servant to humanity). In that capacity, he began formally teaching and mentoring younger generations about mindful meditation and service to others. He later was bestowed the title Acharya, which means one who shares spiritual teachings. From 1998 through 2010 he helped to develop Kashi’s real estate in a healthy eco-friendly method. He continues to work to foster healthy, sustainable living. He currently serves as the CEO of Kashi Foundation and works locally with agencies to serve those in need. He is also a member of the steering committee of Indian River County Needs Assessment in conjunction with the Senior Resource Association. Swami Durga Das believes in nurturing a healthy mind and body, and as a trained Kali Natha Yogi, he continues to do yoga regularly. As a holdover from his youthful days in Philadelphia, Durga Das is a devoted Flyers fan and is himself an avid ice hockey player. He and his wife, Saraswati Rose, are raising their daughters, Mira Jaya and Kali Devi, on the sacred grounds of Kashi. Swami Anjani graduated from Brockport State University (New York) in 1967 with a degree in Secondary English Education. She joined the Peace Corps and served in the Philippines until 1969, training teachers and directing a program for kids suffering from leprosy. Swami Anjani met Ma Jaya in New York in 1975; she moved to Kashi in 1979, serving as the River School’s Principal for 24 years. Swami attended the Harvard Graduate School’s Principal’s Center in 1995. She helped organize the Treasure Coast Teen Institute, a youth leadership camp. In ’02, the Congressional Youth Leadership Council in Washington recognized her for her contributions as an advisor. She currently serves as Kashi’s Director of Community Relations and is Kashi’s representative to the United Religions Initiative. From 2003 - 2012, Swami Anjani served on the Board of Directors of the Economic Opportunities Council and as a member of the Sebastian Advisory Council of the Boys & Girls Club. She has served as the President of the Sebastian Clambake Foundation since 2006, was elected Sebastian’s Woman of the Year in 2009, and was chosen by the Lion’s Club as the Grand Marshal of the 2014 July 4th Parade. Since 2010 she has spoken several times at Unity/Ft. Lauderdale during their September Interfaith Month services. In October, 2015, she represented Kashi at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Salt Lake City. Swami Anjani has spoken at Interfaith services in Vero and Sebastian, and she serves as a volunteer Interfaith Chaplain at Indian River Medical Center.

Breathing seems like it should be a natural and automatic thing yet so many of us shallow breath, hold our breath without realizing it or just in general don't do a full breath. There are over 200 different kinds of breathing that can transform your health, your focus, your life. Many of us are familiar with the panting breathing that pregnant women are taught to help them through childbirth. We may have heard of fire breath. If you saw the movie The Hulk, with Edward Norton, you saw that breath in action while he is training to control the triggers that turn him into the Hulk. Do we really need to learn how to breath? My guest on this episode is Swami Anjani. She shares with us some of the 42 types of breathing detailed in First Breath, Last Breath by Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavait, founder of Kashi and Kali Natha Yoga. We do an actual breathing exercise on the radio, and I have a major reaction to it! So settle in for this episode in a comfortable place and remember, In, Out. In Out. Breathe in. Breath out. Oh yeah, there is more in between the in and out! Swami Anjani graduated from Brockport State University (New York) in 1967 with a degree in Secondary English Education. She joined the Peace Corps and served in the Philippines until 1969, training teachers and directing a program for kids suffering from leprosy.
