I found a couple of posts that really focused on some points that I think we need to have more examples of in our world. The first one was from Motivational Quotes (@motivational) where we are reminded about some things that really “Speaks loudest” when it comes to helping to make a difference with others. This post goes on to share these things that do have a “loud voice”: “It's not your wallet, your title or your status. It's how you treat others that speak the loudest.” The second connection came from Coach AJ Mental Fitness (@coachajkings) where he shares this classic reminder from one of the greats of any sport and all of history - “John Wooden said, “Helping others is perhaps the greatest joy! You cannot have a perfect day without helping others with no thought of getting something in return.” Acts of service enrich our lives. It means selflessness, kindness, and serving. Serving is a reward by itself.” Awesome thoughts for all of us to be better for ourselves and for others too! Thanks for listening. The Wild West is full of myths, but behind the gunfights and honor codes is a deeper story about virtue and civilization. In today's episode, bestselling author Bryan Burrough joins Ryan to explore the truth behind America's gunfighter era. They discuss how honor culture took root in the lawless frontier, where violence was so common that gunfights were simply called “fights”, and what that reveals about the difference between performative strength and real virtue.Bryan Burrough is the author of Public Enemies, The Big Rich, Forget The Alamo, and most recently The Gunfighters: How Texas Made the West Wild. The Dad Edge Podcast (formerly The Good Dad Project Podcast)
Have you ever asked yourself: "How do I teach my kids accountability when I'm not always perfect myself?" "Does admitting my mistakes actually make me a weaker dad?" "What does it truly take to build unbreakable trust with my children?" If these questions resonate, get ready for a raw and honest conversation that dives deep into one of the most vital lessons dads can teach: extreme ownership. Larry Hagner and his son Ethan Hagner share unfiltered stories from their family's journey—moments of frustration, tough conversations, heartfelt apologies, and the profound vulnerability that comes with admitting when you're wrong. Together, they explore why modeling accountability as a father doesn't diminish your credibility; it fundamentally builds trust and earns lasting respect. Become the best husband and leader you can: www.thedadedge.com/mastermind In this powerful conversation, we dig into: The Counterintuitive Power of Apology: Larry recounts difficult parenting seasons, including struggles with anger and the immense pressure to be a "perfect" dad, and how genuine apologies transformed those moments. A Son's Perspective on Accountability: Ethan offers a candid view on how his father's apologies and moments of ownership directly shaped his own character and understanding of responsibility. Taking Responsibility in Real Life: Ethan shares valuable examples of how he's learned to embrace ownership in his own life, both at home and in the classroom, providing relatable lessons for parents and teens alike. Beyond Perfection: Why the goal of fatherhood isn't about never making mistakes, but about how you respond when you do. Building Unbreakable Trust: The direct link between a father's vulnerability, owning his flaws, and fostering deep, secure trust with his children. This episode delivers authentic wisdom and reassurance, reminding every dad (and future dad) out there that perfection isn't the goal—connection and growth are. Here's what research and observation highlight about parental accountability and child development: Children whose parents model admitting mistakes and apologizing have 40% higher levels of empathy and a stronger sense of personal responsibility. Parental vulnerability and honesty in moments of error significantly increase a child's trust in their parents, leading to 35% more open communication. Adolescents with fathers who consistently practice accountability show a 25% lower likelihood of engaging in risky behaviors. www.thedadedge.com/alliance www.1stphorm.com/dadedge www.thedadedge.com/mastermind

This one stood out to me because I know I have fears and I know they are getting in the way of me living my life to the fullest. It comes from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) and it's a short but powerful reminder: “The fears we don't face become our limits.” - Robin Sharma. I have had things getting in my way for 20 + years and to top that off, not only do I know about them - a few of my best friends know it too. You see, they have been around me that long, always encouraging me that I can do these things, but the final decision needs to come from me. Another key element. Since it's been 20 or so years, I look ahead to another 20 years. Yikes!! I'll be just around the corner (if I'm blessed enough to see this corner) from turning 80 years old!!!! Time waits for nobody!! I don't have all the time in the world where we think we do sometimes. I will continue to try and “talk to myself, rather than listen to myself” in going after whatever I have to do to get through these fears. When I step back a bit, they really are not that big of a deal for sure. Thanks for listening. We delved into the common pitfalls that many couples encounter, such as falling into routines that lead to emotional disconnection. Casey introduced the concept of the "law of one in 60," illustrating how even a small deviation in a couple's trajectory can lead to significant distance over time.As we wrapped up the episode, Casey reminded us that the journey to a better marriage begins with individual growth. We travel for work. We travel to see family. We travel to learn. As always, re-entry into our regular life, sleeping in our own bed, can require some getting used to.
When's the last time you touched grass… before your phone? No really. Imagine waking up, resisting the urge to scroll, walking outside barefoot, and just… grounding. That's what today's episode is all about — unplugging from the madness and plugging into what's real. And man, this convo hit different. In this episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast, I sat down with Ryan Levesque, a 7-time Inc. 5000 CEO, 2-time #1 National Bestselling Author, and legit one of the smartest (and realest) entrepreneurs I know. He's the guy behind the wildly successful Ask Method — but lately, he's been asking deeper questions.Like…What if success isn't just scaling tech, but scaling truth? What if the best things in life can't be optimized or outsourced? What if real wealth is measured in moments, not metrics?Ryan's on a mission to live a radically real life. He left the digital rat race for a self-sustaining lifestyle — think chickens, crops, faith, and family. And in this convo, we explore his framework called “The Return to Real” — a philosophy (and lifestyle) that'll get you rethinking your entire hustle. We jammed on everything from purpose-driven business to farming wisdom to why technology is no longer a moat. Again, it happened again. A message that not only I needed to see, but that I have been reminded about it from different places. This time it came from Power of Positivity (@LIVEpositivity) where this message was shared: “You will never hear another person's voice more than you hear your own. Be intentional about the way that you talk to yourself.” It's an old saying that I have heard for a long time, but since I needed it as recently as this morning, I needed to share it with you. It's connected with - “talk to yourself rather than listen to yourself.” Most of the time when I'm feeling down about things in life, I start listening to the critic inside of me, instead of the coach and cheerleader! I know I need to continue to tap into that coach & cheerleader, without me having to wait for this quote coming back into my life. It's something I know I need to do, want to do, and will do!! Last time, we talked about how we've become tired and wired, constantly "on" with too many mental tabs open. Today, we're diving deeper into the critical question: why does losing our brain's on-off switch matter so much? The answer is simple: it's costing us – in our potential, our satisfaction, and our ability to truly rest.First, we'll explore how the inability to focus hinders our potential. Imagine trying to hit a game-winning shot while distracted by a dozen other things. We've lost the crucial art of dropping everything else to focus on one thing, whether it's a critical work project, quality time with our kids, or even navigating the road safely. When you can't be present, you can't truly excel.Next, we reveal how this constant "on" state sabotages our satisfaction. The male brain, in particular, thrives on making steady progress towards a goal. But when our minds are constantly bombarded by distractions – akin to someone trying to sell you dessert during an intense football practice – we lose the profound satisfaction that comes from focused effort and achievement. This constant mental chatter prevents us from savoring our accomplishments and enjoying the journey. Finally, we'll uncover how losing our on-off switch ruins our rest. We were designed for a natural rhythm of work and rest, reflected in days, weeks, and even seasons. However, modern life has eroded these vital barriers. Our homes have become extensions of our workplaces, and our minds struggle to unplug, leading to a lingering voice of doubt that hinders true mental relaxation. When all parts of life are blended together, nothing has its own distinct time and place, leaving us with a "blended" and often unsatisfying experience.Join us at ThrivingMan.com, where we're dedicated to helping you conquer everyday chaos and build a life you can be proud of. In our next episode, we'll uncover why we find ourselves in this perpetual "on" state and explore the ongoing war on our attention and peace.On-Off Switch, Brain Health, Focus, Attention, Distraction, Productivity, Potential, Satisfaction, Rest, Work-Life Balance, Mental Fatigue, Burnout, Digital Overload, Information Overload, Mental Chatter, Present Moment, Deep Work, ThrivingMan, Men's Health, Personal Development, Self-Improvement, Conquer Chaos, Build a Thriving Life, Cognitive Function, Mental Clarity, Quality of Life, Boundaries, Digital Boundaries, Stress Management, Unplugging, Mental Rest, True Rest, Constant Connection, Mind Management.

Saw another great post that had a very simple, yet powerful reminder for all of us and it came from POSITIVITY (@PositivitySaid) “Just enjoy life. You will never be this young again.” I sat back to let this sink in a bit and it reminds me to try and do the most with every day that I have. The things that I want to do, need to do, get to do, etc., and as I get older, some of those things (and many others), will only get more difficult with age and time adding up. It's true for all of us - make sure we remind ourselves of this point every day! Thanks for listening. Found a post about some really good advice that I have heard shared from others too. This one came from The Mindfulness Meditation Institute (@TrainingMindful) where they shared: “The best weight you will ever lose is the weight of other people's opinions of you.” I have always remembered the line that reminds us that opinions are like people's backsides, everyone has one. The world seems to be never short of others' opinions and it can be tough to not only filter through them, but to also not let them get to us. Having confidence in ourselves in things we want to do helps to focus on what we can control and not worry so much about the opinion of others. Our lives and our troubles can lighten up a bit when we get rid of those opinions from others. Thanks for listening. Bethany's dad, Dr. Jones, is back!! In this episode, he and Bethany discuss the importance of recognizing that restless energy and even apathy that some team members experience in the summer months. It is hard to stay focused on work when we really want to play. Yet, the summer months can often be productive months for the practice IF we have a team that is focused and willing to work hard. Dr. Jones shares some of the small but significant things he has done with and for his team to create the feeling of fun. By incorporating small and simple moments of fun, team members can scratch the itch of summer fun while still being present and productive for the practice. If you need to have a productive summer, you can't miss this episode! Previous Episodes Worth Revisiting: Staying Motivated Thru 2024 What to Do When I Just Don't Care
I welcome back Deb Fillman to delve into the complex intersection of education and mental health services in schools. We explore the growing trend of universal mental health screenings and the implications they have for students, teachers, and parents. Deb shares her concerns about how these programs often blur the lines between education and therapy, placing undue burdens on teachers and potentially mislabeling normal childhood behaviors as mental health issues. We discuss the shift from diagnosing conditions like ADHD to a broader pathologization of student behavior, raising critical questions about the effectiveness and necessity of these mental health initiatives. Are we truly addressing the needs of vulnerable students, or are we creating a culture of over-diagnosis and dependency on medication?Additionally, we examine the ethical considerations surrounding consent and privacy in school settings, particularly when it comes to sensitive topics like mental health. As we navigate these pressing issues, we aim to empower parents to think critically about the resources available to their children and to advocate for more meaningful educational experiences. Join us as we unpack these vital topics and consider the future of mental health in education.Deborah Fillman is the founder of The Reason We Learn, a YouTube channel and Substack publication dedicated to exposing what's happening in education and empowering parents to think clearly, ask better questions, and take charge of their children's learning.A longtime homeschooling mother of three—two now adults and one finishing high school—Deborah combines personal experience with deep research to help parents cut through the noise of educational jargon, political agendas, and the steady erosion of academic standards. She's known for her clear, principled commentary and her commitment to parental authority in education. In addition to her work online, Deborah is a private tutor and enrichment instructor with Cogito Learning Center, where she teaches logic, writing, and literature to students from across the country. She also advises families seeking alternatives to the conventional curriculum, helping them identify high-quality resources that challenge students intellectually and support their growth in character, independence, and critical thinking.Whether through video, writing, or direct instruction, Deborah's mission is the same: to restore clarity, courage, and common sense to the conversation about how—and why—we educate.cogitolearningcenter.com - Summer session starts July 6.
