When Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. showed up to audition for America's Got Talent, he was singing to pass the time while grinding out a living washing cars. The only “nice” clothes he owned were the ones on his back: a pair of jeans, a modest button down striped shirt, and jacket. Fortunately, you don't need a large wardrobe to win America's heart. He's performed all over the world, from China to New York City, Los Angeles to Europe where he had the honor to perform for U.S. servicemen and their families stationed there. He's sung the national anthem prior to games by the Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, New York Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, Oklahoma City Thunder, Washington Nationals, and his beloved West Virginia University Mountaineers during a nationally televised homecoming game. You need talent, and Landau has truckloads of that. Since wowing the judges with his interpretations of classics by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin and walking away with the million dollar grand prize in front of 14 million weekly viewers on AGT, Landau has released his Columbia Records debut “That's Life” (the CD hit #1 on the Billboard Jazz chart and was produced by Grammy winner Steve Tyrell, who also helmed Rod Stewart's Great American Songbook album). Landau has performed all over the country, from the California State Fair to New York's famous Apollo Theatre, Caesars Palace in Las Vegas to the Marina Civic Center in Florida and all points in between. Along the way, he has appeared on The Today Show, The View, CNN, Fox and Friends, The Wendy Williams Show, The Talk, Anderson Cooper, Tom Joyner, Sirius XM, NPR, and dozens of other outlets. Landau was named “West Virginian of the Year” by his home state where he has performed a series of sold out concerts helping raise over a half million dollars for state charities. He's played a special command performance at the Governors Inauguration, won Reality TV Personality of the Year in Hollywood, and was honored to perform with his band for U.S. Troops in Germany. He is currently on tour with Glenn Leonard, formally of The Temptations; Joe Blunt, formally of The Drifters and Joe Coleman, formally of The Platters. But all that success hasn't made Landau forget his roots. He was born in the Mountain State of West Virginia and continues to live there rather than move to entertainment industry hubs like Los Angeles or New York. “West Virginia will always be my home,” says Landau, “and home and family are the most important thing in the world to me. I can always fly out to LA or New York for work, but being here helps keep me humble and grounded. I'm just very fortunate to be living my dream.”Recently, Landau and award winning co-author Rick Robinson have written America's Got Talent Winner Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.: From Washing Cars to Hollywood Star, a book chronicling Landau's All-American success story. He's also completed an album full of holiday favorites, Christmas Made For Two. His touring schedule stays booked with shows all over the country including numerous CD and book signing appearances. Trumpeter/composer/arranger/bandleader/educator Tony Kadleck is one of the most sought-after trumpet players on the New York City scene, and has been for some time. He moved to NYC in 1986, following his studies at the New England Conservatory–and a stint in the trumpet section of The Buddy Rich Big Band–and his phone has been ringing ever since. For good reason; at every turn, Kadleck puts the music first, and more than takes care of business. He graduated from the Manhattan School of Music in 1989 and quickly hit the road with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Barbara Streisand, Blood Sweat & Tears, and others. Eventually, Kadleck was in such high demand locally, for studio and stage work, that touring took a back seat. He played on countless jingles, scores for TV and film, and worked with the cream of the crop, including Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Celine Dion, Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, Issac Hayes, and most recently Steely Dan, Tony Bennett/Lady Gaga, Santana, Weezer, Steve Tyrell, and many, many others. In addition to an on-going abundance of freelance sideman work with NYC's A-list artists, Kadleck is currently a member of many organizations, including the New York Pops, John Pizzarelli's “Swing Seven”, the Maria Schneider Orchestra, John Fedchock's NY Big Band, and can currently be heard on Broadway in the band for “MJ”.     To say that Kadleck is a rare bird is a major understatement. Possessing the expertise, musical acumen, phrasing, range, chops, and the desire to handle gigs as diverse as the New York Pops and The Who (for example) with straight-ahead professionalism and excellence is not common. His prowess now bears fruit on his own project, Sides (to be released on Marshall Gilkes' Alternate Side Records on February 10, 2023), which follows up his previous big band album, Around The Horn, and his debut as a leader, Extended Outlook.

It is funny how, looking back, distinct paths and interconnections can be found. It is, sometimes, tempting to see them as clear paths that we are destined to follow. However, sometimes, they are coincidence or simply a case that one can spot significance after the event. But they can also be 'love letters written in canal water'. Journal entry: 21st June, Tuesday, Summer Solstice.“Mist burns off the water, baptising the canal in red and gold.Three newly hatched moorhens, a chaos of fluff and bald-headed,       walk on water on a broken iris leaf. On the opposite bank, a smallish carp, asleep in death,       lies in the middle of the towpath,             light flecking off the lively scales. Just down from here the body of a vole floats on the listless current. How do I make sense of all this?        Can I really live kindly and with joy on this earth? Those three moorhen seem to know.  They walk on water.”  Episode Information:For those wanting to watch Steve Tyrell's wonderfully soothing and informative cruise click this link: Cruising the Ashby Canal!!! The sound of a Gardner 2LW. You can see more of Steve's videos on his YouTube channel: Narrowboat Precious Jet. It is well worth a look if you are interested in the more practical aspects of boat-life (which I tend to stay away from!).I also refer to the lyrics of ‘Society' written by Jerry Hannan and, probably, most famously sung by Eddie Vedder as part of the OST for the film Into the Wild. There are numerous YouTube videos of this song. The official version is: ‘Society' OST. A version featuring the lyrics (with rather idiosyncratic spelling) is: ‘Society' with Lyrics. For more information about Nighttime on Still WatersYou can find more information and photographs about the podcasts and life aboard the Erica on our website at noswpod.com. Howard Hewett Jr. (born October 1, 1955) is a Grammy Award-winning American singer–songwriter. Hewett rose to fame as the lead vocalist of the Grammy-winning R&B/soul vocal group Shalamar. Raised in Akron, Ohio, Hewett moved to Los Angeles in 1976, where he met John and Alonzo Daniels, owners of a historic club in the LA Crenshaw district, called Maverick's Flat. It was at Maverick's that Hewett first met Jeffrey Daniel and Jody Watley (eventually Shalamar). Hewett and the Daniels brothers formed a show group called "Beverly Hills" and through Daniels bookings toured throughout Europe, the UK, Scandinavia and Asia for all of 1977 till the middle of 1978. After returning from overseas, Hewett started recording for Jeffrey Bowen, a Motown producer (The Temptations, Commodores, Bonnie Pointer) who was working on a solo project on guitarist Eddie Hazel (Parliament-Funkadelic). Hewett never completed the project because towards the end of 1978, he got a call from Jeffrey Daniel, who was on the road with Shalamar in the middle of a promotional tour. They had suddenly found themselves in need of a lead singer and Daniel made Hewett an offer that he accepted. Within three days Hewett flew to New Jersey, where he met up with Watley and Daniel, rehearsed the lip synch and choreography to the current Shalamar single "Take That to the Bank", and found himself in front of a TV camera on a local dance show in Paterson, New Jersey. They completed the promotional tour and returned to Los Angeles and immediately started recording the Big Fun LP with their producer, Leon Sylvers. The trio went on to record songs such as "Second Time Around", "Make That Move", "A Night to Remember", "Dancing in the Sheets" and the ballad "This Is for the Lover in You". Hewett was the group's lead singer from 1979 until 1985.When Shalamar broke up in the mid-1980s, Hewett went on to a successful solo career. However, in 1985 before signing his solo deal with Elektra Records, he was arrested and indicted in Miami with his fiancée Mori Molina for possession with an intent to distribute cocaine.[1] Molina, who was indicted in Tampa as well as Miami, was convicted and served prison time; but after a four-day trial, in which Molina testified that Hewett had nothing to do with the crime, Hewett was acquitted of all charges.[2] In spite of his legal battles, Hewett signed his solo deal with Elektra Records and in 1986, before the Miami trial, released his first solo album, I Commit to Love (R&B number 12), a solid urban album that yielded two top 10 R&B hits, "I'm for Real" (R&B number 2) and "Stay" (R&B number 8). The album went Platinum and also included "Say Amen", a gospel tune that became a surprise hit on the Gospel as well as Urban charts and is one of Hewett's many signature songs. In 1988, he released his second album Forever and Ever, which featured the hits "Strange Relationship" (R&B number 9, and "Once, Twice, Three Times" (R&B number 15). Forever and Ever was certified Gold. In 1990, Hewett released his Platinum self-titled album, which included the hit "Show Me" (R&B number 2), and "If I Could Only Have That Day Back" (R&B number 14), 1992 saw the release of his 4th album, the LP Allegiance, which was not received as well as his previous albums. He contributed to the second season theme song of Hangin' With Mr. Cooper, which was a remake of Sam & Dave's R&B Top 10 hit "Soul Man". This recording was produced by singer Steve Tyrell. After 1995's It's Time (released by Caliber Records in the US and Expansion Records in the UK), Hewett spent much of his time providing guest vocals on albums by jazz artists such as Joe Sample, Brian Culbertson, and George Duke, among others. In 2000, The Rippingtons featured Hewett on "I Found Heaven" on their Life in the Tropics album. In 2001, Hewett recorded his first full gospel album, The Journey, followed a year later by The Journey Live: From the Heart. In October 2006, Hewett released a new single, "Enough" (with jazz legend George Duke), which received substantial play on urban contemporary and R&B radio stations. Hewett is signed to The Groove Records, an independent label based in Los Angeles.[3] In October 2008, Hewett released his long-awaited Christmas CD, Howard Hewett Christmas, which combines his soulful R&B voice with classic Christmas songs. Working with music greats Earth, Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder, and new vocal sensation Jasselle, who provides a Latin flair, Hewett proves that his music style remains classic, offering a message that reignites the spirit of Christmas. In 2009 he recorded a duet with soul singer Teena Marie, "Lover's Lane", on her album Congo Square. Hewett now enjoys recording at his leisure, touring the US and overseas,[4] and spending time with his four children and two grandchildren. Howard Hewett was married to his first ex-wife Rainey Riley-Cunningham. Hewett had two daughters, LaKiva and Rainey. Hewett married Mari Molina in 1986 but later divorced. He married actress/singer Nia Peeples and had a son, Christopher (born 1989). Peeples appeared in the music video for his song "Show Me." After their divorce, Hewett married Angela and had one daughter, Anissa. He and Angela divorced in 2012, and he currently lives in Los Angeles, California. According to a DNA analysis, he is descended, mainly, from people of Guinea Bissau and of the Limba of Sierra Leone https://www.instagram.com/howard_hewett/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNs60wj47Us See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Anderson Cooper, AGT Winner, The View, CNN, Fox and Friends, The Wendy Williams Show, The Talk, He's Conquered Covid-19, Got His GED & Has Been Busy with Virtual Concerts & Ceremonies in this Age of Social Distancing. I Talk with Landau about his Thoughts'on His Career, Adapting to the NEW Normal in Entertainment Events & His Healing from the Virus. Happy Holiday's!!! His is a true rags to riches story; car wash rags. When Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. showed up to audition for America’s Got Talent, he was singing to pass the time while grinding out a living washing cars. The only “nice” clothes he owned were the ones on his back: a pair of jeans, a modest button down striped shirt, and jacket. Fortunately, you don’t need a large wardrobe to win America’s heart. You need talent, and Landau has truckloads of that. Since wowing the judges with his interpretations of classics by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin and walking away with the million dollar grand prize in front of 14 million weekly viewers on AGT, Landau has released his Columbia Records debut “That’s Life” (the CD hit #1 on the Billboard Jazz chart and was produced by Grammy winner Steve Tyrell, who also helmed Rod Stewart’s Great American Songbook album). Landau has performed all over the country, from the California State Fair to New York’s famous Apollo Theatre, Caesars Palace in Las Vegas to the Marina Civic Center in Florida and all points in between. He’s played a special command performance at the Governors Inauguration, won Reality TV Personality of the Year in Hollywood, and was honored to perform with his band for U.S. Troops in Germany. He is currently on tour with Glenn Leonard, formally of The Temptations; Joe Blunt, formally of The Drifters and Joe Coleman, formally of The Platters. But all that success hasn’t made Landau forget his roots. I’m just very fortunate to be living my dream.” Recently, Landau and award winning co-author Rick Robinson have written America’s Got Talent Winner Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.: From Washing Cars to Hollywood Star, a book chronicling Landau’s All-American success story. He’s also completed an album full of holiday favorites, Christmas Made For Two. His touring schedule stays booked with shows all over the country including numerous CD and book signing appearances. He and the incredibly talented “Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. Big Band” are currently beginning his Classic Christmas Crooners Tour with a full slate of concerts at home and abroad. Our guest is singer Steven Maglio whose sound is reminiscent of the great Frank Sinatra. THE NEW YORK TIMES said of Steve, “Steven Maglio does not have blue eyes, but with his smooth croon & Rat Pack swagger, listeners just might imagine they were at the Copa Room at the Sands in 1963.” While Steven Maglio is a singer of standards. Although he is especially appreciated for his renditions of songs made popular by Frank Sinatra, he is NOT an impersonator. https://www.stevenmaglio.com/home THE BEGINNING I was born in East Harlem, N.Y. on December 25, 1958. In 1966, we moved to the Bronx, and being the new kid on the block, I walked back and forth to school alone for the first few weeks. I heard Frank Sinatra singing “My Kind Of Town,” and to pass the time on my new daily trek, I would sing the song to myself over and over. After a few days, I decided I needed another song and began to explore the only Sinatra album we owned at the time, “A Man And His Music.” This was the beginning of my addiction, not only to Sinatra, but to that whole world of standard songs and singers. It wasn't until age 43, after eight years of secretly taking voice lessons and one year of cruising the New Jersey karaoke circuit, that I made my professional debut at New York City's “Tavern On The Green,” as male vocalist with Joe Battaglia & The New York Big Band in June, 2002. Since then I've performed from Atlantic City to Las Vegas, from Cape Cod to Nashville, from Palm Beach to Beverly Hills, and from Brazil to Ecuador to Italy. In 2004, I started performing Frank Sinatra tribute shows at The Carnegie Club in New York, and I'm still singing there every Saturday evening. I've had the pleasure of entertaining President & Mrs. Donald Trump, Lisa Lampanelli, Vic Damone, Connie Francis, Jackie Mason, Danny DeVito, Rhea Perlman, William Shatner, Brad Garrett, Dennis Farina, The Kennedy Family, and most of the cast of “The Sopranos,” just to name a few. As well as multiple sports figures, politicians, business moguls, and members of the press. I've had the honor of sharing the stage with The Duke Ellington Orchestra, Frankie Valli, Wayne Newton, Dionne Warwick, Deana Martin, Tony Danza, Danny Aiello, Steve Tyrell, Joe Piscopo, Bucky Pizzarelli, Pat Cooper, Norm Crosby, Larry King, Johnny Maestro & The Brooklyn Bridge, The Spinners, and on a few occasions with Frank Sinatra's former pianist/conductor, Vincent Falcone, among others. I've appeared in the movies, “Frank & Alice,” “Once Upon A Time In Brooklyn,” “Once More With Feeling,” and in the music video, “For One More Day.” I've also sung “The Tender Trap” on the soundtrack of “My Best Friend's Girl.” In the Off-Broadway play, “Playing Sinatra,” my recordings of 11 popular Sinatra songs were used to replace the originals. I've released three CDs, “You Belong To Me & other songs Sinatra never recorded,” “Songs For Sinatra Lovers,” and “Sinatra en Bossa Nova.” Special highlights in my career were being the co-writer and official singer of “The Danny DeVito Limoncello Song,” used to promote the lemon flavored liquore that bore Danny DeVito's signature. Joining the all-star cast of The Cannolis television show. Becoming a member of the most prestigious organization in show business, The Friars Club. It's been a wild ride, and I'm far from being finished. The most common compliment paid to me is, “If Frank Sinatra heard the way you sing his songs …. he'd be proud.” AND I HOPE THAT'S TRUE ….. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/RickLertzman/support

Anderson Cooper, AGT Winner Season 6, The View, CNN, Fox and Friends, The Wendy Williams Show, The Talk, Happy Thanksgiving!!! LIVE from the Resort at Glade Springs, I talk with Landau Murphy Jr. Winner from NBC-TV's America's Got Talent We Talk Building Blocks & Life Lessons He Learned on the Way to Success & How He is Still a Work n Progress. Landau has a Positive Spirit! Over 100 sold out concerts across three continents, from Caesars Palace to the Apollo Theater and all points in between. A debut CD from a Grammy winning producer that hit the top of the Billboard charts. More than a million dollars raised for children’s and homeless charities via his holiday CD and personal appearances. Performing duets with childhood heroes Patti Labelle and Glenn Leonard, the former tenor vocalist from The Temptations. An international television audience of over 100 million touched by his amazing life story. And it all started in a very small town with a man who possessed a big dream and an even bigger voice. When Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. showed up to audition for NBC TV’s America’s Got Talent in 2010, he was singing to pass the time while grinding out a living washing cars in his hometown of Logan, WV (population 3,000) and the only “nice” clothes he owned were the ones on his back: a pair of jeans, a modest button down striped shirt and jacket. Fortunately, you don’t need a slick wardrobe to win America’s heart. You need talent and personality, and Landau has a great deal of both. Wowing the judges with his back story of homelessness and determination to succeed for his family, coupled with interpretations of classics from Cole Porter, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and others, Landau walked away with the million dollar grand prize in front of 14 million weekly viewers. According to show insiders, when all was said and done, Landau had won America’s Got Talent by the biggest vote total in the show’s history. In November 2011, Landau released his Columbia Records debut album “That’s Life.” The CD hit #1 on the Billboard Jazz chart in time for Christmas and was produced by Grammy winner Steve Tyrell, who also helmed Rod Stewart’s Great American Songbook album. Landau soon hit the road for his first ever tour, backed by an 18-piece big band, selling out performing arts centers, casinos, and theaters all over America. It was a dream come true for the always humble, gracious vocalist, who insisted that he come out after every show to meet his fans for photos and conversation. “Without them, I wouldn’t be here. I wouldn’t be anywhere.” For many winners of television talent competitions, the ride is short, but for Landau, four years after winning America’s Got Talent, things couldn’t be busier. A book co-authored with award-winning writer Rick Robinson chronicling Landau’s All-American success story titled “Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.: From Washing Cars to Hollywood Star” debuted at #1 on the Amazon.com Jazz Book chart, where it remained for several weeks during the 2013 holiday season, and was purchased by many as a companion piece to Landau’s second album “Christmas Made For Two.” © 2015 Building Abundant Success!! 2015 All Rights Reserved "LIKE" my Facebook Page ~ Facebook.com/BuildingAbundantSuccess

Thought Particle Technology has ArrivedI consider Pandora.com to be the first commercial application of Thought Particle technology. Have you allowed Pandora to read your mind yet? Pandora.com is a streaming music service crafted by a couple of hundred really serious music experts whose ideas about music are much bigger and more divergent than the mere idea of “format” or “genre.” Tell Pandora what songs you like and she'll soon figure out what all those songs have in common that you never realized. Pandora also learns from the songs you tell her you don't like. I fed Pandora everything from James Taylor and Jimmy Buffett to the blistering rage of Bone Thugs and System of a Down. I even admitted a fondness for certain songs of Janice Ian and Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole. Pandora says I tend to like songs with a subtle blues or country influence, Likewise, I'm a sucker for paired harmony, a syncopated rhythm, interesting part writing and strong melodies. And that's just a few of the characteristics my songs tend to have in common. But you've got to tell her what you like. The benefit of all this back-and-forth interaction with Pandora is that she will soon begin playing songs you never knew existed, songs that make you say, “Wow! This is the coolest music I've ever heard in my life!” Even as I write this, I've got Pandora playing through my laptop. A moment ago I heard, I Concentrate on You, by Steve Tyrell. Never heard it before in my life. Loved it. Right now Pandora is playing It's Alright by Big Head Todd & The Monsters. Who the heck is Big Head Todd? Pretty soon Pandora will change the tempo and take me in another of my favorite directions. Wow. What a coincidence. Just as I typed “another of my favorite directions,” the mellow mumblings of Big Head Todd segued into the bee-sting guitars of Ten Years After playing another song I've never heard in my life, When It All Falls Down. Click the image that appears on your monitor while a song is playing and Pandora will let you give it a Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down. She'll link you to iTunes to buy the mp3 or to Amazon to buy the CD. She'll even explain why she chose that song for you. Yes, Pandora has leaped light-years beyond Amazon's suggestion of “People who bought this CD also bought…..” No, I'm not making a penny off any of this. I'm suggesting that you meet Pandora for your benefit, not hers. You need her a lot more than she needs you. Next week I'll tell you about a few other soon-to-be-released technologies built on Thought Particles, the simple but practical application of a bizarre pattern-recognition system that is easily encoded into software to create powerfully convincing artificial intelligences. The day of Thought Particles has arrived. Roy H. Williams
