An Auckland woman is questioning a $300 GP charge for a so called 'menopause' consultation, to discuss hormone replacement therapy. A regular 15 minute Doctors visit at the central Auckland clinic is $70 for an enrolled patient. But it lists a $300 fee for a menopause consult, that's for a 45 minute long appointment. Checkpoint has found several medical centres around the country charging several hundred dollars for an initial menopause consultation and more than $100 for a follow-up. Carla said she was shocked by the fee, she spoke to Lisa Owen.

If you've got big ideas, this is probably the most important episode we've ever done.God is a Woman is the pinnacle of a 17 year stand up comedy career.Luisa Omielan has created a musical comedy that tells the truth about Mary Madeline and what happens when you wipe women's stories from history. The show might not get made.Luisa has sold everything she owns and moved to the states to pursue its creation. That's how strongly she believes in the idea and how committed she is to doing everything in her power to get it made.Luisa knows that the best chance of success for her musical, is in LA.But the USA is, ‘politically uneasy' right now. Stewart Lee has stated he wouldn't tour there at this moment in history. But Luisa is there. She's there because she believes in her idea and she believes that art is revolution. She believes in using your voice. In saying the hard things, the inconvenient things. She lives on a razors edge. No marketing budget. No PR team. No management. When you don't have financial backing you have to get inventive and you have to ask for help.Which is one of the hardest things to do. I'm so bad at it when it comes to my own work. But when it comes to other creatives I have no hang ups…If you listen to this episode and you think this project should get made, you should help make it.Luisa is funded by Patreon, where over 500 people, who share her vision, give a small amount each month. You can join them. It's a revolutionary act, to find your favourite artists and support them.Your whole life, people have projected their doubts onto you. They have told you that obsession is weird. ‘Chase your dreams' is a cliche. No one tells you how and no one expects you to actually do it.Do you have an idea that you'd sell everything for? If you do, go after it, CHASE it, with every fibre of your being.Luisa's PatreonGod Is A Woman - LIVE in L.A. To hear more, visit creativerebels.substack.com

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom” – Viktor FranklThis is one of my favorite quotes, because it describes the importance of pausing when something triggers us. We don't react – we respond. In our Western hustle culture, pausing is not encouraged, but it's one of the most important things we can do to help us have better lives. On this episode, we dig into a chilling case from the rural backroads, where an abandoned house next door becomes more than just a relic of the past. For years, locals whispered about it. One night, a spontaneous ghost hunt brought those whispers to life. Strange recordings. A ghostly photograph. And a haunting message from the other side. But what really happened inside "Rudy's"? Was it just a coincidence—or a doorway opened by a foolish game years earlier? As our narrator pieces together fragments of fear and forgotten voices, one thing becomes disturbingly clear: some doors don't stay closed, especially when something is waiting behind them.
On this episode, Tony Brueski digs into one of Seattle's most chilling legends—the haunted Hotel Sorrento. Built in 1909 with elegance and ambition, this historic landmark has stood as a symbol of luxury for over a century. But behind the charm and ivy-covered walls lies something far more unsettling: tales of unexplained footsteps, chilling apparitions, and one infamous room that guests and staff alike have grown to fear. Tony follows the historical trail from the hotel's origins through decades of paranormal reports, guest accounts, and even possible connections to the spirit of writer Alice B. Toklas. We explore whether the activity in Room 408 is rooted in residual hauntings or something more intelligent and deliberate. Is it all in our heads, or is the Hotel Sorrento truly one of the most haunted places in the Pacific Northwest?

In times past, childbirth was a profoundly communal and intimate experience, guided by the steady hands and wisdom of community midwives. Known as Bean Ghlúine—the Women of the Knee—these women were among the most important figures in rural Irish communities. In this episode, I'm joined by historian Emma Laffey to explore the world of birth and midwifery in a time before pregnancy tests or pain relief. Through the remarkable story of community midwife Mary Anne Fanning, our conversation uncovers the history of birth and the key role midwives played in Irish communities. They delivered not just babies, but in an era of high infant mortality, they were also called upon to guide families through loss and tragedy.*This episode discusses themes of childbirth and infant loss, which some listeners may find distressing.*Sound by Kate DunleaResourcesVisit the Exhibition:https://www.museum.ie/en-IE/Museums/Country-Life/Exhibitions/Mary-Anne-Fanning-Remembering-our-Community-MidwivRead Emma's book Woman of the Knee Midwife & Handywoman for freehttps://skehana.galwaycommunityheritage.org/content/people/an-bhean-ghluine/an-bheanghluineFind out more about Irish community midwiveshttps://skehana.galwaycommunityheritage.org/content/category/topics/an-bhean-ghluineWatch this interview with community midwife Bina Kelly interviewed in 1983 https://skehana.galwaycommunityheritage.org/content/people/an-bhean-ghluine/an-bhean-ghluineiCAN: Irish Community Archive Networkhttps://www.ouririshheritage.org/ Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/irishhistory. Today on the Matt Walsh Show, a mother in the UK will spend the next two and a half years of her life in prison for posting something “hateful” on social media. The UK, like so many other alleged liberal democracies across the West, has become a left-wing dictatorship. Also, the Democrat Party has spent $20 million hatching a plan to win back young male voters. We'll take a look at the plan to see exactly how out of touch it is. And we have another super-viral entry in the ever-expanding genre of online videos where wives complain about their husbands.
