But hope springs eternal and you start to put yourself back together after the journey of making the movie. You're like, 'Yeah, what if we did X and what if we did Y?' Like the wheels start turning, you can't help yourself. I don't want to say anything about specifically what those are, but yeah, you can't help yourself. But if controversial Marvel Entertainment Chairman Isaac Perlmutter had his way eight years ago, Feige would have been out. Newly-reinstated Disney CEO Bob Iger claims that Perlmutter wanted to remove Feige as the president of Marvel Studios back in 2015. However, Iger intervened on Feige's behalf and prevented this from happening.   Marvel fans have heard a version of this story before. In 2020, Mark Ruffalo told The Independent that Feige was ready to walk away from the studio of his own free will after the first Avengers movie hit theaters in 2012. Because apparently, Perlmutter (who still oversaw Marvel's film projects at the time) shot down Feige's ideas to make the MCU a more inclusive space for female, Black, and LGBT superheroes. It wasn't until 2015 that corporate restructuring took Perlmutter out of the equation and allowed Feige to directly report to then-Disney chairman Alan Horn. This paved the way for films like Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Eternals to finally get the green light.   However, the bit about Perlmutter actually trying to oust Feige from the studio is brand new information. Iger dropped this bombshell while speaking with CNBC about Wendy's Company chairman Nelson Peltz's recently-failed bid to get a seat on Disney's board, which Perlmutter supported. When asked why Perlmutter was so insistent on having Peltz join the company, Iger remarked that the pair have “a curious dynamic.”   See also https://www.cbr.com/kevin-feige-almost-fired-marvel-boss-ike-perlmutter-bob-iger-disney/   DISNEY+   Marvel's ‘Wonder Man' Series Sets ‘The Spectacular Now' Director James Ponsoldt (EXCLUSIVE) https://discussingfilm.net/2023/02/03/marvels-wonder-man-series-sets-the-spectacular-now-director-james-ponsoldt-exclusive/ Marvel Studios has enlisted The Spectacular Now filmmaker James Ponsoldt to direct multiple episodes of Disney+'s developing live-action Wonder Man series. Ponsoldt is in active negotiations with Marvel Studios to join the Wonder Man series' directorial lineup, reports Discussing Film. I don't want to say too much because there's not a whole lot out there in the world, but it feels very grounded, it feels very spiritual in ways that feel fresh for us. This episode looks at the 1984 debut novel by Bret Easton Ellis, and its 1987 film adaptation. ----more---- Hello, and welcome to The 80s Movies Podcast. I am your host, Edward Havens. Thank you for listening today. On this episode, we're going to talk about 80s author Bret Easton Ellis and his 1985 novel Less Than Zero, the literal polar opposite of last week's subjects, Jay McInerney and his 1984 novel Bright Lights, Big City. As I mentioned last week, McInerney was twenty-nine when he published Bright Lights, Big City. What I forgot to mention was that he was born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut, halfway between Boston and New York City, and he would a part of that elite East Coast community that befits the upper class child of a corporate executive. Bret Easton Ellis was born and raised in Los Angeles. His father was a property developer, and his parents would divorce when he was 18. He would attend high school at The Buckley School, a college prep school in nearby Sherman Oaks, whose other famous alumni include a who's who of modern pop culture history, including Paul Thomas Anderson, Tucker Carlson, Laura Dern, Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, Alyssa Milano, Matthew Perry, and Nicole Richie. So they both grew up fairly well off. And they both would attend tony colleges in New England.  Ellis would attend Bennington College in Vermont, a private liberal arts college whose alumni include fellow writers Jonathan Lethem and Donna Tartt, who would both graduate from Bennington the same year as Ellis, 1986. While still attending The Buckley School, the then sixteen year old Ellis would start writing the book he would call Less Than Zero, after the Elvis Costello song. The story would follow a protagonist not unlike Bret Easton Ellis and his adventures through a high school not unlike Buckley. Unlike the final product, Ellis's first draft of Less Than Zero wore its heart on its sleeve, and was written in the third person.  Ellis would do a couple of rewrites of the novel during his final years at Buckley and his first years at Bennington, until his creative writing professor, true crime novelist Joe McGinness, suggested to the young writer that he revert his story back to the first person, which Ellis was at first hesitant to do. But once he did start to rewrite the story as a traditional novel, everything seemed to click. Ellis would have his book finished by the end of the year, and McGinniss was so impressed with the final product that he would submit it to his own agent to send out to publishers. Bret Easton Ellis was only a second year student at the time. And because timing is everything in life, Less Than Zero was being submitted to publishers just as Bright Lights, Big City was tearing up the best seller charts, and the publisher Simon and Schuster would purchase the rights to the book for $5,000. When the book was published in June 1985, Ellis just finished his third year at Bennington.  He was only twenty-one years and three months old. Oh… also… before the book was published, the film producer Marvin Worth, whose credits included Bob Fosse's 1974 doc-drama about Lenny Bruce starring Dustin Hoffman, 1979's musical drama The Rose, Bette Midler's breakthrough film as an actress, and the 1983 Dudley Moore comedy Unfaithfully Yours, would purchase the rights to make the novel into a movie, for $7,500. The film would be produced at Twentieth Century-Fox, under the supervision of the studio's then vice president of production, Scott Rudin. The book would become a success upon its release, with young readers gravitating towards Clay and his aimless, meandering tour of the rich and decadent young adults in Los Angeles circa Christmas 1984, bouncing through parties and conversations and sex and drugs and shopping malls. One of those readers who became obsessed with the book was a then-seventeen year old Los Angeles native who had just returned to the city after three years of high school in Northern California. Me. I read Less Than Zero easily three times that summer, enraptured not only with Ellis's minimalist prose but with Clay specifically. Although I was neither bisexual nor a user of drugs, Clay was the closest thing I had ever seen to myself in a book before. I had kept in touch with my school friends from junior high while I lived in Santa Cruz, and I found myself to have drifted far away from them during my time away from them. And then when I went back to Santa Cruz shortly after Christmas in 1985, I had a similar feeling of isolation from a number of my friends there, not six months after leaving high school. I also loved how Ellis threw in a number of then-current Los Angeles-specific references, including two mentions of KROQ DJ Richard Blade, who was the coolest guy in radio on the planet. And thanks to Sirius XM and its First Wave channel, I can still listen to Richard Blade almost daily, but now from wherever I might be in the world. But I digress. My bond with Less Than Zero only deepened the next time I read it in early 1986. One of the things I used to do as a young would-be screenwriter living in Los Angeles was to try and write adaptation of novels when I wasn't going to school, going to movies, or working as a file clerk at a law firm. But one book I couldn't adapt for the life of me was Less Than Zero. Sure, there was a story there, but its episodic nature made it difficult to create a coherent storyline. Fox felt the same way, so they would hire Michael Cristofer, a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, to do the first draft of the script. Cristofer had just finished writing the adaptation of John Updike's The Witches of Eastwick that Mad Max director George Miller was about to direct, and he would do a literal adaptation of Ellis's book, with all the drugs and sex and violence, except for a slight rehabilitation of the lead character's sexuality. Although it was still the 1980s, with one part of the nation dramatically shifting its perspective on many types of sexuality, it was still Ronald Reagan's 1980s America, and maybe it wasn't a good idea to have the lead character be openly bisexual in a major studio motion picture. Cristofer would complete his first draft of the script in just one month, and producer Marvin Worth really loved it. Problem was, the Fox executives hated it. In a November 18th, 1987, New York Times article about the adaptation, Worth would tell writer Allen Harmetz that he thought Cristofer's script was highly commercial, because “it had something gripping to say about the dilemma of a generation to whom nothing matters.” Which, as someone who had just turned twenty years old eight days after the movie's release and four days before this article came out, I absolutely disagree with. My generation cared about a great many things. We cared about human rights. We cared about ending apartheid. We cared about ending AIDS and what was happening politically and economically. Yeah, we also cared about puffy jean jackets and neon colored clothes and other non-sensical things to take our minds off all the other junk we were dealing with, but it would be typical of a forty something screenwriter and a fiftysomething producer to thing we didn't give a damn about anything. But again, I digress. Worth and the studio would agree on one thing. It wasn't really a drug film, but about young people being destroyed by the privilege of having everything you ever wanted available to you. But the studio would want the movie version of the book to be a bit more sanitized for mainstream consumption. Goodbye, Marvin Worth. Hello, Jon Avnet. In 1986, Jon Avnet was mostly a producer of low-budget films for television, with titles like Between Two Women and Calendar Girl Murders, but he had struck gold in 1983 with a lower-budgeted studio movie with a first-time director and a little known lead actor. That movie was Risky Business, and it made that little known lead actor, Tom Cruise, a bona-fide star. Avnet, wanting to make the move out of television and onto the big screen, would hire Harley Peyton, a former script reader for former Columbia Pictures and MGM/UA head David Begelman, who you might remember from several of our previous episodes, and six-time Oscar nominated producer/screenwriter Ernest Lehman. Peyton would spend weeks in Avnet's office, pouring over every page of the book, deciding what to keep, what to toss, and what to change. Two of the first things to go were the screening of a “snuff” film on the beach, and a scene where a twelve year old girl is tied to a bedpost and raped by one of the main characters. Julian would still hustle himself out to men for money to buy drugs, but Clay would a committed heterosexual. Casting on the film would see many of Hollywood's leading younger male actors looked at for Clay, including a twenty-three year old recent transplant from Oklahoma looking not only for his first leading role, but his first speaking role on screen. Brad Pitt. The producers would instead go with twenty-four year old Andrew McCarthy, an amiable-enough actor who had already made a name for himself with such films as St. Elmo's Fire and Pretty in Pink, and who would have another hit film in Mannequin between being cast as Clay and the start of production. For Blair, they would cast Jami Gertz, who had spent years on the cusp of stardom, between her co-starring role as Muffy Tepperman on the iconic 1982 CBS series Square Pegs, to movies such as Quicksilver and Crossroads that were expected to be bigger than they ended up being. The ace up her sleeve was the upcoming vampire horror/comedy film The Lost Boys, which Warner Brothers was so certain was going to be a huge hit, they would actually move it away from its original Spring 1987 release date to a prime mid-July release. The third point in the triangle, Julian, would see Robert Downey Jr. get cast. Today, it's hard to understand just how not famous Downey was at the time. He had been featured in movies like Weird Science and Tuff Turf, and spent a year as a Not Ready For Prime Time Player on what most people agree was the single worst season of Saturday Night Live, but his star was starting to rise.  What the producers did not know, and Downey did not elaborate on, was that, like Julian, Downey was falling down a spiral of drug use, which would make his performance more method-like than anyone could have guessed. The Red Hot Chili Peppers, who were hot in the Los Angeles music scene but were still a couple years from the release of their breakout album, 1989's Mothers Milk, were cast to play a band in one of the party scenes, and additional cast members would include James Spader and Lisanne Falk, who would become semi-famous two years later as one of the Heathers. Impressed with a 1984 British historical drama called Another Country featuring Colin Firth, Cary Elwes and Rupert Everett, Avnet would hire that film's 35 year old director, Marek Kanievska, to make his American directing debut. But Kanievska would be in for a major culture shock when he learned just how different the American studio system was to the British production system. Shooting on the film was set to begin in Los Angeles on May 6th, 1987, and the film was already scheduled to open in theatres barely six months later. One major element that would help keep the movie moving along was cinematographer Ed Lachman. Lachman had been working as a cinematographer for nearly 15 years, and had shot movies like Jonathan Demme's Last Embrace, Susan Sideman's Desperately Seeking Susan, and David Byrne's True Stories.  Lachman knew how to keep things on track for lower budgeted movies, and at only $8m, Less Than Zero was the second lowest budgeted film for Twentieth Century-Fox for the entire year. Not that having a lower budget was going to stop Kanievska and Lachman from trying make the best film they could. They would stage the film in the garish neon lighting the 80s would be best known for, with cool flairs like lighting a poolside discussion between Clay and Julian where the ripples of the water and the underwater lights create an effect on the characters' faces that highlight Julian's literal drowning in his problems. There's also one very awesome shot where Clay's convertible, parked in the middle of a street with its top down, as we see Clay and Blair making out while scores of motorcycles loudly pass by them on either side. And there's a Steadicam shot during the party scene featuring the Chili Peppers which is supposed to be out of this world, but it's likely we'll never see it. Once the film was finished shooting and Kanievska turned in his assembly cut, the studio was not happy with the film. It was edgier than they wanted, and they had a problem with the party scene with the Peppers. Specifically, that the band was jumping around on screen, extremely sweaty, without their shirts on. It also didn't help that Larry Gordon, the President of Fox who had approved the purchase of the book, had been let go before production on the film began, and his replacement, Alan Horn, who did give the final go-ahead on the film, had also been summarily dismissed. His replacement, Leonard Goldberg, really hated the material, thought it was distasteful, but Barry Diller, the chairman of the studio, was still a supporter of the project. During all this infighting, the director, Kanievska, had been released from the film.  Before any test screenings. Test screenings had really become a part of the studio modus operandi in the 1980s, and Fox would often hold their test screenings on the Fox Studio Lot in Century City. There are several screenings rooms on the Fox lot, from the 53 seat William Fox Theatre, to the 476 seat Darryl Zanuck Theatre. Most of the Less Than Zero test screenings would be held in the 120 seat Little Theatre, so that audience reactions would be easier to gauge, and should they want to keep some of the audience over for a post-screening Q&A, it would be easier to recruit eight or ten audience members. That first test screening did not go over well. Even though the screening room was filled with young people between the ages of 15 and 24, and many of them were recruited from nearby malls like the Century City Mall and the Beverly Center based off a stated liking of Andrew McCarthy, they really didn't like Jami Hertz's character, and they really hated Robert Downey Jr's. Several of the harder scenes of drug use with their characters would be toned down, either through judicious editing, or new scenes were shot, such as when Blair is seen dumping her cocaine into a bathroom sink, which was filmed without a director by the cinematographer, Ed Lachman. They'd also shoot a flashback scene to the trio's high school graduation, meant to show them in happier times. The film would be completed three weeks before its November 6th release date, and Fox would book the film into 871 theatres., going up against no less than seven other new movies, including a Shelley Long comedy, Hello Again, the fourth entry in the Death Wish series, yet another Jon Cryer high school movie, Hiding Out, a weird Patrick Swayze sci-fi movie called Steel Dawn, a relatively tame fantasy romance film from Alan Rudolph called Made in Heaven, and a movie called Ruskies which starred a very young Joaquin Phoenix when he was still known as Leaf Phoenix, while also contending with movies like Fatal Attraction, Baby Boom and Dirty Dancing, which were all still doing very well two to four months in theatres. The reviews for the film were mostly bad. If there was any saving grace critically, it would be the praise heaped upon Downey for his raw performance as a drug addict, but of course, no one knew he actually was a drug addict at that time. The film would open in fourth place with $3.01m in ticket sales, less than half of what Fatal Attraction grossed that weekend, in its eighth week of release. And the following weeks' drops would be swift and merciless. Down 36% in its second week, another 41% in its third, and had one of the worst drops in its fourth week, the four day Thanksgiving holiday weekend, when many movies were up in ticket sales. By early December, the film was mostly playing in dollar houses, and by the first of the year, Fox had already stopped tracking it, with slightly less than $12.4m in tickets sold. As of the writing of this episode, at the end of November 2022, you cannot find Less Than Zero streaming anywhere, although if you do want to see it online, it's not that hard to find. But it has been available for streaming in the past on sites like Amazon Prime and The Roku Channel, so hopefully it will find its way back to streaming in the future. Or you can find a copy of the 21 year old DVD on Amazon. Thank you for listening. We'll talk again real soon, when our final episode of 2022, Episode 96, on Michael Jackson's Thriller, is released. Remember to visit this episode's page on our website, The80sMoviePodcast.com, for extra materials about Less Than Zero the movie and the novel, and its author, Bret Easton Ellis. The 80s Movies Podcast has been researched, written, narrated and edited by Edward Havens for Idiosyncratic Entertainment. Thank you again. Good night.

In 2018, Catherine Hand was one of two producers for Walt Disney's adaptation of Madeleine L'Engle's beloved children's classic A Wrinkle in Time. Catherine's career in the entertainment business was launched working for the legendary writer/producer Norman Lear. She was the Associate Producer on Lear's Emmy Nominated ABC TV special, I Love Liberty, and helped to create the national nonprofit, People for the American Way. Later, she served as a development executive at Zoetrope, Francis Coppola's company where she worked on several projects, including Godfather III. Catherine has also worked for years in the public service sector. After having produced several large-scale events for national organizations, garnering a Gracie Award for best public affairs programming in 2009, Catherine was recruited by the Obama Administration where she was part of the core leadership team involved in communicating policy and political decisions impacting the federal workforce. Catherine shares some beautiful life lessons in this episode. "Faith is for when things are going wrong," she shares. Her lifelong dream did not come to fruition until after she turned 60. But she did not give up. "We can't changes things...but we can stop fearing them," she counsels. "Thoughts are temporary," she says of her 3:00 am musings. "They are not permanent," and we can talk back to them. One of her takeaways from writing her book, Becoming a Warrior, is that "Have something worth fighting for...that is greater than yourself." And others can benefit from what you have learned. Catherine encourages us to become warriors in the universe to illuminate others. She continues to develop new projects and enjoys coaching others to become warriors in their own lives. Her memoir, Becoming a Warrior is scheduled to be published by Bold Story Press on October 25, 2022. It will be available everywhere. "I read Madeleine L'Engle's award winning novel, A Wrinkle in Time, when I was ten years old and dreamt of one day making it into a movie. It would take five decades for my childhood dream to come true. My journey would include working alongside the television luminary Norman Lear in the creation of the nonprofit People For the American Way, and a 25 year-long conversation with author Madeleine L'Engle about her book. My memoir, Becoming a Warrior: My Journey to Bring A Wrinkle in Time to the Screen due to be released in October 2022 illustrates one woman's persistence—through a demanding career in the entertainment industry, the sudden and unexpected death of my beloved husband, raising three young children on my own—and eventual success. In 2018, over fifty years after I first read A Wrinkle in Time, Walt Disney Studios released a major motion picture based on this beloved novel directed by Ava DuVernay, written by Jennifer Lee and starred Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Chris Pine, Gugu Mbatha Raw and Storm Reid." -- Catherine Hand “Catherine's journey of over 50 years to have A Wrinkle In Time brought to the Silver Screen is simply extraordinary. And the book's impact upon her life is both compelling and inspirational.” -- Alan Horn, Former Chairman of Walt Disney Studios - Motion Pictures “No one I've known ever loved a book more than Catherine Hand loved A Wrinkle in Time. Her perseverance and journey to make the film is nothing short of inspiring.” -- Norman Lear, award winning writer/producer To learn more, see catherinehand.com https://www.instagram.com/catherinehand5555/ twitter: @madebyhand --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/maria-leonard-olsen/support

Episode 53: A conversation about sustainability with Debbie Levin

My conversation with Debbie Levin was one of my favorite conversations this year. Some notes from our conversation: Debbie went to USC film school and wanted to be a film critic. She did celebrity interviews that she got just by calling them. These included George Segal, Richard Dreyfuss and Henry “the Fonz” Winkler. The Environmental Media Association, which Debbie has spent her career with was started by Norman Lear and Alan Horn. Debbie's good friend is Wendie Malick who starred on Just Shoot Me! I mentioned Ed Begley Jr. who was on a documentary about the EV1, Who Killed the Electric Car. Debbie told a story about Ed riding his bicycle to the Oscars. Debbie convinced Wendie Malick to get David Spade to host the 10thanniversary of the EMA awards ceremony with her. Debbie helped build the brand around the EMA by recruiting Amy Smart to help out (She later set Amy up with her future husband.) Debbie mentioned not knowing what a Step and Repeat is…in case you don't either. So I told Debbie I don't love the paper straw but that I had used a straw made of pasta which we both agreed was genius. So now I know where you can get them. Debbie can be reached at the Environmental Media Association and at green4ema at the socials including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn.

Yes, Bob Saget has starred in many successful television shows, including two of the most family-friendly shows network TV has ever produced ("Full House" and "Americas Funniest Home Videos") but he's also an out of his mind, Grammy-nominated standup comedian for over thirty years. From his HBO special "That Ain't Right" to his scene-stealing cameos in "Entourage," and "The Aristocrats," it's always effective as Saget embraces his dark side. From directing MGM's cult favorite feature film "Dirty Work," to directing and producing the highly acclaimed ABC television movie, "For Hope," to starring in the critically acclaimed, Paul Weitz off-Broadway play, "Privilege, to starring on Broadway in the Tony Award winning "The Drowsy Chaperone," Bob Saget shows no signs of stopping.  Ever.  In 2007 came the hugely successful DVD release of "Farce of the Penguins," an R-rated comedy/documentary/love story, that he voiced-over, wrote, directed, and produced, with producer David Permut.  And then came the hit NBC quiz show "1 VS 100," where Bob ad-libbed his way through the one-hour prime time format.  In 2008, "The Comedy Central Roast of Bob Saget" premiered to the second highest ratings of all TV that night, second only to the Olympics.   For many years now, Bob has been a proud board member of the Scleroderma Research Foundation. He co-produces and hosts "Cool Comedy Hot Cuisine" fundraising events in Los Angeles, New York, Las Vegas and San Francisco.  To date, they have raised over 53 million dollars for the SRF going directly to research to cure this disease.   Bob was seen several times reprising the role of “Himself” on HBO's hit series “Entourage” as well as a cameo in the film.  He also starred in his own documentary comedy series for A&E titled, “Strange Days with Bob Saget,” an exploration of unusual subcultures in America.     ----------   Robert Reiner was born in New York City, to Estelle Reiner (née Lebost) and Emmy-winning actor, comedian, writer, and producer Carl Reiner. As a child, he often looked up to his father as his inspiration and role-model. Carl Reiner was on The Dick Van Dyke Show, which he created and also starred in. Estelle was the inspiration for Rob Reiner to become a director. Her history as a singer helped him understand how music was used in a scene. Rob often felt pressured about measuring up to his father's twelve Emmys, and prestigious awards and successful streak. When Rob graduated high school, his parents advised him to participate in Summer Theatre. Reiner got a job as an apprentice in the Bucks County Playhouse in Pennsylvania. He went to be further educated at UCLA Film School. Reiner felt he still wasn't successful even having a recurring role on one of the biggest shows in the country, All in the Family. Reiner began his directing career with the Oscar-nominated films This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, and The Princess Bride,. With these successful box-office movies in 1987, Reiner founded his own production company, Castle Rock Entertainment, along with Martin Shafer, Andrew Scheinman, Glenn Padnick, and Alan Horn. For Castle Rock Entertainment, he went to direct the Oscar-nominated films When Harry Met Sally, Misery, and A Few Good Men. Reiner often credits former co-star Carroll O'Connor in helping him get into the directing business, and showing Reiner the ropes. Reiner also is known as a political activist, co-founding the American Foundation For Equal Rights, a group that was an advisory for same-sex-marriage. Reiner has spoken at several rallies on several controversial topics, and is also seen as an advocate on social issues, such as domestic violence and tobacco use. Reiner has also made cameos on show like 30 Rock, The Simpsons, and Hannah Montana, and in the films The First Wives Club, Bullets Over Broadway, Primary Colors, and Throw Momma From The Train, among many others.

Middle earth - China's cultural industry podcast

“If Mulan doesn’t work in China, we have a problem,” said Alan Horn, the co-chairman of Walt Disney Studios, to the Hollywood Reporter. Unfortunately, the film had a lot of issues: inaccurate storytelling, cultural appropriation, and political scandals, not to mention a poor showing at the box office. Joining Aladin Farré are film editor Hank Liu and South China Morning Post journalist Elaine Yau to explain what hurdles the movie faced and how Mulan could be a lesson for film studios hoping to tell Chinese stories for international audiences. How to write an acceptance-worthy essay for HBS [Show summary] Harsha Mulchandani, member of the Harvard Business School Class of 2021, offers her perspective on student life at HBS, as well as what her work on the Harbus Essay Guide has taught her about writing the perfect admissions essay. How can The Harbus Essay Guide help you craft your admissions essays? [Show notes] Is HBS on your list? Hear from this student about her experience so far at Harvard Business School (shut down and all) and about how the Harbus Essay Guide can help you get accepted. Our guest today, Harsha Mulchandani, lived most of her life in India. She earned an integrated MS in mathematics and computer science in 2015 from IIT Kanpur. She then launched her professional career at Boston Consulting Group and left BCG to become an investment analyst in 2017. She moved to Boston to attend Harvard Business School last summer and join the class of 2021. For her summer internship, she is an M&A and operations associate while also serving, separately, as a product manager for Harbus, HBS' student newspaper. For Harbus, she works primarily on the Harbus Essay Guide, which just came out, and its interview guide, which will come out shortly. Can you tell us a little bit about your background, where you grew up, and what you like to do for fun? [2:05] I grew up in India. For the largest part of my life, I was in a town in the northern part of India called Jaipur. You may have heard of it as the “Pink City” or a city famous for forts and palaces, or more recently for weddings. It's getting popular. I spent a large part of my time, until I was 18, there. And then I shifted to Kanpur to do my integrated master's in mathematics and scientific computing. I spent about five years there. After that, as you mentioned, I launched into management consulting with the Boston Consulting Group. A large part of my two and a half years there was focused on consumer goods, and I did a project with the government of Rajasthan, which is my home state as well. And then from there, I went on to a private equity fund called Westbridge Capital. I spent about a year and a half there, and I'm here now. That's what I did before joining HBS, other than of course getting married. And for fun, I've been into dance all my life. I used to do a lot of dance growing up, in college and now in HBS. And I like to go for short runs and listen to some of my favorite podcasts. Why did you decide to get an MBA? [3:46] I guess this is the question that people ask any MBA graduate often, or someone who is deciding to go into an MBA. I guess the most important question to answer is, why an MBA? And I guess for me, the answer was never just about only the hard skills or only the more tangible skills. It was a mix of a hard skills agenda and a more personal development agenda. And the answer for me somehow has always been a cross cut of those two. My exposure to working styles had only been focused on my own geography, which is India, so being able to develop a more global working style, interacting with some of my colleagues who have had experience working here or have grown up here. That was one of the things on my list. I wanted to interact with people and figure out what it is out there. A lot of people do it on investment calculations and take the salary of their next job and say, "Okay, in how many years can I make up for the salary?" But I guess for me, it was always that you have to add that personal development equation into that. It's a melting pot of so many different cultures, being able to listen to speakers from Brian Stevenson to Alan Horn. And also personally for me as an entrepreneur, I guess America is a much deeper market capital wise. Just to be exposed to the venture capital/private equity community here. I guess if I put all of that into the equation, it would seem favorable for me to come here and do an MBA.

0:20 Steven 84With the news that HBO Max will have a Green Lantern series, do you think it's possible for Disney + to pull off either Nova or Silver Surfer as a series?2:01 Paul ShearmanHey Sean and everyone! Sean, I enjoyed the Daily Bugle for 15th November where you talked about the 5 new Marvel movies across 2022 and 2023. Off the back of your conversation about how Marvel Studios may announce  these movies, it  got me thinking about the ways they may do it. Do you think it's possible that, rather than a SDCC Hall H event, we could have a live streaming event on Disney+ in which Kevin Feige makes the announcements?  Granted, there may be logistics over the time of day that happens to factor in global time zones etc, but is this option something that you could see happening, or would like to see as a platform to use for any announcements?  Thanks as always!16:01 Woo S KimDo you think Alan Horn promoted Feige now because this is the best time to do so, with Disney+ launching, with Hulu slowing being made a Disney only property, would there have been a better time to do this than now?21:06 Alex KleinJust reading Pughs interview and she is one of many actors who say something to the effect of “that wasn't what I expected” when it comes to working with Marvel. Is that lip service from all these actors or do you think they are judging Marvel and then join and realize it's not just another big budget explosion movie.27:17 Zack KuhnDo you think after Hellstrom has come and gone that the MCU will have any live action TV-MA shows on the HULU platform?   Still connected to the MCU proper like the Disney + series but a bit more for adults.  Similar to Daredevil or the Punisher on Netflix.32:30 Michael WeaselboyDo you think we will ever see Carol permanently settle on Earth?33:44 LincDo you think we'll start to see D+ double as a trailer resource for future, forthcoming films and TV series?40:20 Brian FletcherNow that we have an idea of some of the scenarios for What If?, with Peggy becoming Captain Carter, T'Challa becoming Star Lord, and Bucky taking on Zombie Cap, what are some other What If? scenarios you'd like to see Marvel Studios tackle?45:38 Robert ReinekeI think we can all agree that Disney+ is going to do very well among the 30 million plus households that have kids, but I have to ask if their quest for 60 million subscribers might affect the MCU in regards to reaching households without kids.I think we've all kind of dismissed the idea that you'll have to watch the Disney+ shows to fully get the MCU moving forward, but I'm starting to rethink that based on how kids oriented most of the content is on Disney+. I think part of the sell is that The Mandalorian and the MCU shows have to be considered essential and not slideshows or lesser than the theatrical releases. Which somewhat demands some status quo upheaval. What do you think is the balance? And how do you keep households without kids in between shows? Is Star Wars and a few MCU shows enough content? Become a Patron! Who knew that the fantasy dangers in Fallout 76 would be brought to the real world! GameStop has recalled the Power Armor Collectible Helmet - Nuka Cola edition due to health hazards. This story and more are part of our news lineup. Let us get into what is happening in the geek and video game world.   Geek News   Kevin Feige and Star Wars Marvel's Kevin Feige is rumored to produce his own Star Wars project. It seems that he will be part of the new wave of projects to be set in the Disney Star Wars Universe. Feige has met with Kathleen Kennedy and studio co-chairman Alan Horn and Alan Bergman. Feige has also declared that he wants Bree Larson to star in the next Star Wars project where he is the producer.   Wakeen Phoenix's Joker Controversy Wakeen Phoenix's Joker is just around the corner, and the internet never disappoints in drumming up controversies. Different groups are declaring that the movie will be a rallying cry for different groups to enact violence. Jon and I find the claims ridiculous. This movie is a piece of art and should be allowed to explore important topics. The topics of mental health and how we treat other people are topics that have profound relevance in our society. What pushes a man to the breaking point? What could we do for our neighbors to prevent what happens to Wakeen Phoenix's Joker? These and other questions we should be able to explore in films.    Ninja on Masked Singer On Masked Singer, the ice cream mask is revealed as Ninja! He performed Old Town Road as he rode out on a lawn mover. An impressive performance from the career video game streamer! It amused us that he was introduced as a prominent Twitch streamer. Either this show's recording was before his transition to Mixer, or they improperly said where he currently hosts his channel. It is nothing major but enough to make us chuckle.   Video Game News   Mario Kart Tour Microtransactions Mario Kart Tour has released on mobile devices. It is a time for celebration! Or is it? The game is fun and entertaining, but the microtransactions are steep. The 200cc, the game's fastest mode, will cost the player five dollars a month subscription. The subscription also includes gold gifts by racing in tours and badges from challenges. Mario's name is in the game, so he is one of the main playable characters, right? Wrong! He is behind a paywall. There are two ways the player can acquire Mario. The mobile game has a 20 dollar Mario pack. The pack includes Mario, Mario's kart, and other specialty items. The other method to acquire Mario and other characters is through their premium currency. Their top rupees option at 135 rupees will cost the player 70 dollars. The player then pays with the rupees to utilize the "Warp Pipe" to fire off characters, karts, and other items. One fire cost five rupees, and ten fires cost forty-five rupees. Will this monetization model be able to compete with the other options on the market? Only time will tell.   Call of Duty: Modern Warfare The next Call of Duty is just around the corner, and it appears that some familiar faces will be greeting us again. This Modern Warfare will be a soft reboot of the 2007 release. The 2019 CoD: Modern Warfare will bring back well-known characters and voices back in the game, but the story will be updated to reflect the times. Every CoD has a core focus on multiplayer, and it looks like the game is here to impress. The developers have put in a new "Realism" mode that removes the HUD. In the match, the player can breach doors for ambushes and utilize night vision goggles on nighttime maps. Two new modes will be coming to this title. A 2v2 mode called Gunfight and Groud Wars, which sets large teams against each other. The developers went out of their way to emphasize that Ground Wars isn't a battle royale and that they had no plans to implement such a mode into the game. As of right now, PlayStation has a year-long exclusive on the Special Ops: Survival Mode.   Google Play Pass Apple Arcade made a splash in the mobile market by providing premium quality games for five dollars a month. To our surprise, Google is joining in this mobile model. Google is releasing Google Play Pass. The service will be 5 dollars a month, and it will include a wide selection of games. Part of the game collection includes Stardew Valley, Limbo, Old Man's journey, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. If you are interested in trying this service, then their free trial might be a great deal. They offer a 10 Day Free Trial. Then after the trial, the first year is charged at 2 dollars a month.    Hearthstone Pro Caught Playing Two Games At Once Lihn "Seiko" Nguyen competed in the Grandmasters League match, but he decided to play this game a bit differently. Instead of giving the game his all and demonstrating is real prowess at the game, he tried to play Hearthstone and Auto-Chess at the same time. People on the stream noted that he looked distracted, looking from his lap to the screen regularly. His made a misstep during that game that turned out to be his undoing. He played the Legendary Minion Shirvallah the Tiger which is an excellent source of healing. For the current meta of the game, the proper play is to play Shirvallah and then use the Baleful Banker card to shuffle a copy of Shirvallah back into the deck. He missed this step which sealed his loss. The Hearthstone commentators and communities were upset and outraged that "Seiko" took up a Grandmaster spot from players who would have taken the match seriously. Ultimately, his heart and head weren't where they were supposed to be. The Grandmaster League is the pinnacle of Hearthstone, and it is disrespectful to the Grandmasters, and it is rude to those who want to be in his position. On top of it all, the audience watches these matches to see the top players in the world compete. If Esports is supposed to be taken as seriously as regular sporting events, then these expectations are not out of line. Honestly, at the level, you are a professional and should conduct yourself as such.    Showstopper Fallout 76 is the gift that keeps on giving. However, this time, it doesn't look as if Bethesda is directly responsible for this debacle. A recall issued for the Power Armor Collectible Helmet - Nuka Cola which was sold by GameStop due to the helmet being a health hazard. Reports say that mold can be present on the fabric insert inside the helmet. This mold can lead to respiratory or other infections with compromised immune systems or damaged lungs. At this time, no incidents have been reported. Though the manufacture was Chronicle LLC, of Irving, Texas, the helmet was manufactured in China. Was Disney right to reject George Lucas' sequel trilogy story treatment? This week, we compare what George had planned to the films we got!Disney CEO Bob Iger has written about George Lucas’ disappointment in The Force Awakens in his new memoir, The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned From 15 Years as CEO of the Walt Disney Company. Of course, that's not new information — we've known George had his misgivings ever since he called Disney "white slavers" in 2015 — but we thought it was a good opportunity to pull together everything we know about the Lucas story treatment that Disney moved away from, and compare it to what ended up on screen. From shocking differences (like a central role for forgotten EU femme fatale Darth Talon) to fundamental elements that were present from initial conception to execution, it's a look at how the story of the sequel trilogy has evolved — and how there might be more of Lucas' DNA in the sequel trilogy than you think!

Sean answers your Marvel questions!0:51 AdineAny thoughts on similarities between the memory examining technology that the Skrulls used on Carol, to Tony's BARF technology?2:02 AlexSean,  this is the last Q &A before  the Fox deal closes! On to my question, do you think Lance Reddick would make for a good Silver Surfer?  He's a great actor who've adored in shows like the Wire and Lost and I feel he would be a good fit for the Herald Of Galactus.3:02 Xavier ArquerosHello Sean and all the patrons, I was blown away by the last Avengers Endgame trailer. I can't believe we are so close to this movie. I have a theory on what's the first hour or hour and a half of the movie, but I have no clue about what comes next: I think the Avengers assemble with Tony, Nebula and Carol and they go together to find and defeat/kill Thanos, in the battle they succeed but some or almost all of the infinity stones are destroyed. That's when the time elapses comes and we flash forward a few weeks when Natasha finds Clint, when Scott gets out of the Quantum Real, and they get together and start working on a plan to use the Quantum Tunnel to travel Through time. That's all I've got. Clearly Thor and Carol are off Earth with their galaxy business. Do you think this a reasonable way of begin the movie or am I way off? And you have some idea about what enemies or circumstances they would face and what will be Thor and Carol doing off world? I just can't wait for this movie, I need to try and speculate...  Thanks and Cheers everyone!7:34 Xavier ArquerosAh, an other question about the Dr. Doom movie, wouldn't it be could that Von Doom just take control over Sokovia and rename it Latveria? That would be a great connection with Wanda and the avengers, and that way you don't have to make up an other easter european country. Would be cool if he was a brilliant scientist that also went to Kamartaj and learned from the Ancient one, that way you can connect him to Dr. Strange too. But I want this movie, I hope Kevin Feige takes a good look on that Noah script and if it's good bring him on board on the MCU! Thanks again!10:13 Alex WardHey Sean! Hope you had a great week! I just have a couple for this weekend: 1) Do you think Carol is immortal? What is your current theory for how she stayed young through Endgame? 11:38 Alex Ward2) Do you think Carol may have returned to Earth before Endgame, or has she really been in space all this time?12:15 Alex Ward3) Do you think Endgame will adapt any more elements of Infinity Gauntlet, or will it mostly be telling its own story at this point?13:30 AlexSean,  do you mind if I  ask a DC question that relates to Marvel? Captain Marvel has  surpassed Wonder Woman's domestic opening weekend and overall worldwide  opening and it looks like it will be inevitable  that Vers first solo will outgross  Diana's first solo   movie overall so can I ask what's your theory as to why its the case?  Do you think BvS was one of the reasons WW wasn't more successful  and if BvS was a better movie  and well liked by audiences do you think Wonder Woman would've done better numbers?17:26 AdineOn my way to the theater last Thursday for Captain Marvel opening night I was catching up on some day Daily Bugles and the most recent Black Widow news got me thinking... Especially after watching CM, I realize I haven't been too excited for BW, because as a prequel, I didn't imagine that it would advance the greater MCU storyline much. Obviously I was wrong, and I realize now I wasn't expecting the ways in which CM advanced the story either, like with the Tesseract, and “launching” the Avengers Initiative. I'm wondering now, how do you think Black Widow might add to what we know about the MCU timeline? Do you think it's likely to delve back into something like an Infinity Stone connection post Endgame? Or do you think it might plant a seed for next phase of the MCU?19:18 Woo S! KimIf you are betting man and I trust your judgement always have really, after "The Eternals" now that the Disney FOX deal is nearing an official close is an Fantastic Four and or X-Men film to follow "The Eternals" or  do you think Doctor Strange 2, "Shang Chi," and the sequel to "Black Panther come out well before Mutants and Marvel's First Family?21:07 Michael Louis WeaselboyHey Sean thanks for all the episodes lately, I have so much to listen to now lol. Anyways my question is how angry do you think Thanos will be when the Avengers undo The Decimation?? Like say everyone comes back and all is well and there is a final battle, its just Thanos without the Gauntlet, I imagine he wont be happy, and its a chance to see Thanos truly angry. Thoughts??22:10 Woo S! KimThis is just a general question, Sean do you dislike the redesign of the Patreon website it looks so Meh now?23:24 Woo S! KimIf you had 45 minutes to an hour to interview Kevin Feige post Disney/FOX merger what five questions would you ask him? (they don't have to be about The Disney/FOX merger.)26:12 Woo S! KimI try to be, one of those fans that isn't screaming out to the top of my lungs for networks/studios to resurrect TV Shows Sean.  But I really think/want “Agent Carter” to be resurrected on Disney Plus mainly because the show ended on a cliffhanger also being that the show is a period piece one could pick up the show anywhere from where the show ended off in the second season up to the mid to late 1970's unless one wants to show an older Peggy Carter, like we True Believers saw in the prologue of “Ant-Man” what is the likelihood in your mind in let's say two to three years Marvel TV/Marvel Studios could bring back “Agent Carter” on Disney Plus or  on Hulu, thanks Sean.28:25 AlexWhy do you think Marvel is the bigger international brand than DC? Marvel movies especially in China tend to out-gross DC films. Aquaman made a big splash there(pun not intended) but as a whole DC films don't overall don't do good as their Marvel counterparts. Do you think DC can be a strong brand like Marvel is internationally or is it too late?32:23 Paul ShearmanHey Sean and everyone, hope you're all recovering from the MCU explosion of greatness we've had this week!  I've had a quick scroll through the questions here (some crackers, as always folks - good work!) and Captain Marvel and Endgame seem well covered, so a quick question about James Gunn being rehired for GOtG3 if I may. This is excellent news, it shows common sense and some new perspective from Disney, and I'm very happy with this. Kevin Feige has potentially played the long game here, keeping a dignified and professional approach when asked publicly about this, but perhaps working quietly behind the scenes within Disney to champion and secure James Gunn return?  What do you think his role in this return may have been? Thanks for your time in advance, looking forward to listening in to the Q&A and enjoy your weekend.40:06 AlexSean, what are the chances of Feige tweeting  something to the effect of hashtag "Welcome Back Home First Family and Merry Mutants  to confirm he has the rights either on the date of closure or after that day?41:39 Robert KlauserWhat's up fellow patrons and Sean? It's been an awesome week for MCU fans. With Gunn being reinstated, do you think it was for the purpose of just finishing up the Guardians trilogy or will he be around to help with the cosmic aspects of the MCU like what was stated before?43:50 AlexIs James Gunn being rehired to do Guardians Vol. 3 the most shocking  Entertainment news of 2019? Do you think Feige was still vouching for him to direct and played a role in convincing Alan Horn to reverse his decision?45:15 AlexWhen James Gunn returns to direct Guardians Vol. 3 the Fox-Deal will have long since been  complete and Gunn will have access to all  Mutant and Fantastic Four related  characters so do you think  he'll be open to tweaking   his initial script in order to include those characters whether it be Silver Surfer or Galactus if it fits his overall story or do you think Gunn will stick to his guns(bad pun intended) and adhere mostly to his original story that he would've done if the Fox-deal never happened?47:13 Danyon RamsayAnother of my favourite content creators, Mr Sunday Movies, mentioned in his video about the new trailer that he had heard a rumour (and he emphasises that it was only a rumour) that the Russos had only made 8 mins of footage of Avengers Endgame available for the trailer. Do you think that this is likely to be true, and, if so, is this sort of control over marketing common for directors to have?49:24 Woo S! KimIn your point of view, Sean do you believe because of James Gunn's future with Marvel Studios having ended at the time production wrapped on "Avengers: End Game," do you think there will be story issues concerning The Guardians of The Galaxy now that James Gunn has been rehired?  Or do you think Markus, Mcfeely, The Russos, and Feige had the story for "Infinity War" and "End Game" on lock before all this nonsense occurred with James Gunn so the story of "End Game" wouldn't have been effected at all no matter James Gunn status with Marvel Studios?51:29 AlexSean, what's your thoughts about Fox executuives saying the Disney/Fox merger is hurting the Dark Phoenix film and what do you specifically think about this quote specifically from a frustrated marketing executive for Dark Phoenix: "Nobody has come around and said, 'This is what's going on.' Why can't they just tell us that there is no place for us? Why can't they let anyone know?" "We are not leaving because we didn't make money for the company or we did a bad job. We are leaving because of pure capitalism." See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Sean answers your Marvel questions!00:36 Alex WardIt has been occurring to me recently that this past year or so is one of those rare time in pop culture where we're in between a major cliffhanger (the snap) and its resolution (Endgame). The only comparable time I can think of is 1980-1983, when Luke found out Vader was his father but Return of the Jedi hadn't come out yet. Do you ever lament the fact that this time will soon be over, knowing that these periods of not-knowing are so few and far between in fandom? What do you think is the best way to savor this time?6:06 Alex WardDo you think the recent additional accusations against Bryan Singer are even more reason to put Dark Phoenix to bed early and leave the Fox X-Men universe behind for good? Do you think these accusations might play into any decision Disney or Fox might end up making?8:46 Spencer ToycenHey there, Sean I hope all is well! Recently, I picked Immortal Hulk and that series became my go to Marvel book right now. I've always loved the Hulk especially the Bixby/Ferrigno show, so with this new ongoing bringing back the traveling aspect is a welcomed return. With that being said, I feel that's something missing from Banner in the MCU. Does Universal seem likely to move on the Hulk rights soon? I just don't know how the Fox deal would effect that, if at all. Thanks, Sean!13:43 Woo S! KimNow that it is set, that we are going to have a Los Angeles Rams versus New England Patriots Superbowl, I am assuming being a born and raised Los Angeles guy, you will have a Superbowl party, you have one almost every year correct?  On the more Marvel side of things, how likely and would you rather Marvel Studios have a “Captain Marvel” Superbowl ad over an “Avengers: End Game” Superbowl ad because correct me if I'm wrong aren't Superbowl ads for movies a minimum thirty and a maximum sixty seconds and since “Captain Marvel” is coming out sooner wouldn't it make more sense for Marvel Studios to put more money into Captain Marvel's Superbowl ad, rather than “Avengers: End Game?”  The reason I say is because Kevin Feige did say on the Golden Globes Red Carpet that in the marketing Marvel Studios isn't going to show past the first fifteen to twenty minutes of the film.  How can one show pretty much the same clips over and over without making it look like Marvel Studios is recycling footage, I guess changing the music in ads, helps.  Feige could be lying about the fifteen to twenty minutes, but do you see my point am I off base on this one, Sean?20:43 Woo S! KimIn my mind, something that would happen in the aftermath of “Avengers: Endgame”  is The Avengers taking control of “The Raft” and making it theirs and the prison under either T'Chalia's control or Captain Danvers or The Avengers as a collective, what are your thoughts, Sean?22:26 Woo S! KimThis is something I have thought about after watching the roundtables for “Black Panther” and for “Avengers: Infinity War” which are both superb. If and or when Fantastic Four and X-Men get films made by Marvel Studios and for that matter whenever Marvel Studios produces and releases an A-Force film.  I would really like some of the creative forces behind X-Men Comics like Chris Claremont, Joss Whedon to sit down with the directors/writers of Marvel Studios X-Men film to discuss the characters similar to how Ryan Coogler and his production staff were able to talk some of Black Panther's comic book writers.  In that same vein when an A-Force film is released I would really like Sana Amant and Kelly Sue Deconnick a chance to sit down with filmmakers and talk about their experiences re-launching Ms. and Captain Marvel to audiences young and old alike, what are your thoughts, Sean?24:20 Michael Louis WeaselboyHey Sean how is your weekend going I hope its going well. Let me just say real quick that since becoming a patron I have been overloaded with stuff to listen to thanks to your show. Anyways I was wondering if Blade were to become a movie in the MCU how would you do it?? Would you have any other Characters cameo?? Who would you cast as Blade?? And finally who should be the villain? Also do you think they will make a "Marvel Knights" brand for R rated movies?? Thoughts??28:45 BenHey Sean! I remember you saying that Nate Moore would be a worthy successor to Kevin Feige, and I agree. But it doesn't seem like Feige is going anywhere anytime soon and Moore should be a hot commodity to anyone with an upstart cinematic universe. For instance, if I was Toby Emmerich I would snatch him up to run a Milestone Media line of movies. Do you think Nate Moore will be poached by another studio in the near future?33:20 MayaMy #1 favorite marvel scene of all time is the "She's not alone" scene when Okoye and Black Widow come to Wanda's rescue when she is fighting Proxima Midnight. I really respect and agree with your comment about how an all woman marvel team up shouldn't require a reason as to why the men are absent. I think an all woman team up would be DOPE and I'm hoping we can see it within the next 3 years. Which character do you think would make a great villain if it was also a woman?38:20 AlexHey Sean, As I recall, I once asked you if whether the recent  Singer allegations would make you reconsider ever watching his films especially his comic book movies now I have to ask do you think that the allegations against Mr. Singer could potentially taint the legacy of the X-Men films for majority of people?  and what do you think  of Millennium Pictures keeping  Singer as the director of Red Sonja   despite  the new allegations  says about Hollywood?43:01 AlexAny comment on the Brazilian delay on approving the Disney/Fox merger past the expected  January 30th date? Why do you think its taking so long for Brazil to approve the merger and do you still have confidence the deal will close pretty early?44:18 AlexNow that Millennium  Pictures for whatever bizarre reason decided to keep Singer as the director of the Red Sonja film despite these new flood of allegations against him it got me thinking how would you feel if Marvel did the same and hired Singer or someone like him on a project and once credible sexual misconduct allegations start coming out about them  Kevin Feige and Alan Horn stood their ground and still keeps them as director on the project  then in that scenario could you in  good conscience ever  bring yourself to support the film?45:42 Alex WardIs it at all possible that a deal has been reached between Marvel Studios and Sony and we just haven't heard about it yet? Say, for example, Sony sold the rights for Spider-Man back to Marvel Studios--we'd have to hear about that, right? Also, what would it take from Sony to let Marvel Studios make Norman Osborn a major crossover villain in the MCU?54:23 David RosenHey Sean and Friends! Hope everyone has had a good week! We got some exciting news today about Dr. Strange's sequel and it got me thinking: we know that directors talk to each other when they go to make the team-up films, such as the Russos talking to Ryan Coogler, Taiki Waititi, and so on when they were making Infinity War to make sure they were continuing on what each director established in their solo film.. However, do you think it also works the other way around, in that some of the individual directors will talk to the writers and directors of the team up films where those versions of a character seem to work better than in their solo films? For example, while I'm personally a fan of him in both movies, I'd say there is more or less a general consensus that Dr. Strange was written better and more enjoyable in Infinity War than in his solo movie. Do you think when they go to write Dr. Strange 2, Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill might talk with the Russo's and Markus and McFeely about how they approached and wrote that character that made him one of the highlights of Infinity War?As the MCU continues to grow, it seems like there is the potential for more and more characters to be handled by different directors, and I wonder if all the creatives at Marvel Studios might look at which movie or movies each character's characterization was the most successful/enjoyed by audiences and try to continue applying those thought processes that for all future films that a character will appear in. 59:37 Mookie JohnsonPotential Avengers: Endgame spoiler question See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

This episode continues difficult subject matter around childhood sexual abuse. *Check out part one for more information* In episode one of this two part series, we spoke with several people to follow up on the continued work toward justice since Netflix’s Oscar nominated docuseries The Keepers premiered in May of 2017. The series explored the murder of Sister Cathy Cesnik in 1969, a 26 year old nun and teacher, but there was much more to the story than that. A ring of abuse was taking place at Archbishop Keough High School with a man named Father Joseph Maskell at the center, and his victims are now assumed to be in the hundreds. It is likely he hand a hand in Sister Cathy's murder, who was trying to expose the abuse. Teresa Lancaster and Alan Horn join us again for part two, where explore the what it’s like to be working voluntarily on a case like this. We will also be speaking with a woman who chose to go by the name Piper, one of the volunteers who works along side Alan and Teresa making calls to victims and piecing together clues. Piper wished to remain anonymous, as powerful institutions are involved in what Alan, Teresa, Piper, and many others believe to be a serious cover-up. Piper shares with us what it is like to work on a case like this. Like I said before, we are exploring what happens when the cameras go off, when the awards season is over, but justice has not yet been served. Here is the official Facebook page to meet others and get involved: https://www.facebook.com/groups/454252571596239/ Please get in touch with Teresa and Alan via email if you have any information around the death of Sister Cathy, Joyce Malecki, or the abuse perpetrated by Father Joseph Maskell, or if you would like to volunteer to help find justice. This episode continues difficult subject matter around childhood sexual abuse. *Part two coming January 23* The Keepers, a 7-part, Oscar nominated docuseries from Netflix, premiered in May of 2017, and existed on its surface as an investigation into the 1969 murder of Sister Cathy Cesnik, a 26-year-old nun and teacher at Arch Bishop Keough HS in Baltimore. But it was obvious right away that the murder of Sister Cathy wasn’t the only story that needed to be told. The series also helped to give a mainstream voice to several sexual abuse victims of Father Joseph Maskell, who was a counselor at the high school who died in 2001 and likely had a role in Sister Cathy’s murder, as it is believed that she was threatening to expose the profound abuse that was occurring to high school students at the hands of Maskell and other powerful community members, abuse that was covered up by the same powerful institutions. In the first part of this two part series, I am joined by Teresa Lancaster, who you will remember from the Keepers. She is one of the two women who first spoke out about the abuse she suffered at the hands of Maskell, and continues to work toward justice for Maskell’s victims, over 100 of which have come forward. Along with Jean Wehner, known then as Jane Doe, Teresa became known in 1994 as ‘Jane Roe,’ but, after horrific court proceedings, the Maryland Court of Appeals refused to allow the case to go to trial because the statue of limitations had passed. Nonetheless, that courageous act sparked the events that would go on to form The Keepers, and would allow a community to join together to fight for a long overdue justice, both for Sister Cathy, and for the victims of abuse at Keough and beyond. Teresa has since become a lawyer. Alan Horn, who was also featured in the Keepers documentary, is an amateur investigator who has voluntarily played a very helpful role in the path toward justice through his individual research. We are going to hear more about him, and also more from in the next episode. Both Teresa and Alan came to be associated with these cases in very different ways, but now both work toward the same goals. We will also be speaking with a woman named Dr. Pamela Pine, an expert in childhood sexual abuse, who will help us understand this abuse as a public health crisis. Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend

Mindy Cohn (Facts of Life, Scooby-Doo) stops by the show this week and if you know anything about me it's that I'm a huge lifelong fan so you can only imagine how excited and nervous I was. Mindy did not disappoint. We talked about her unusual childhood—being discovered by Norman Lear, Alan Horn and Charlotte Rae when they were researching girls' schools to bring authenticity to Facts of Life, attending regular school while also working on the show, having "once in a lifetime experiences all the time," going "hog ass wild" when she was 17, the discrepancy between how she appears and how she feels inside, wanting to be a doctor at one point and eventually realizing she was already doing the thing she loved, realizing you don't have to be friends with someone just because they want to be friends with you, feeling drawn to alcoholics, drug addicts and narcissists, compulsive behaviors, anxiety, romance, reality shows, the movie she's currently shooting and so much more. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone. Also: a Facts of Life quiz!
