Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Missey: Hi, I'm a 43 year old mom to 6 (5 biological). My GYN said I'm in peri menopause with symptoms of weight gain, low libido, cystic acne on my chin, moodiness/emotional, depressed, high anxiety at times, difficulty staying asleep, hair thinning. My periods are regular, every 23-25 days. They start as spotting, then get really heavy. Per ultrasound, I've been diagnosed with adenomyosis, which creates painful periods. She ran my hormone levels via bloodwork and said they are : Testosterone 22.36 ng/dL, TSH 1.66 uIU/mL, Progesterone 18.9 ng/mL. I've had cortisol and testosterone tested via salvia too and those results were: Cortisol 2.7 ng/mL, Testosterone 18 pg/mL. I've recently had two episodes of severe rashes under my arms requiring oral steroids and steroid cream. Over the past few years, I will have random rashes/hives, but recently it has gotten more frequent and severe. Maybe a separate issue, I've always dealt with constipation. My chiropractor recommended Standard Process Intestinal Cleanse and I've been taking 2 pills/night for the past decade as it's the only thing that would keep me regular. I recently started Faster Way to Fat Loss with Amanda Tress and am eating better than I ever have, but my constipation is now worse even with the Intestinal Cleanse. I exercise 4-5 days a week, stay active, only drink coffee or water, eat whole foods (mostly dairy and gluten free now), and get plenty of fiber (I log my food) and yet, I'm still dealing with constipation and bloating (I look like I'm pregnant by the evening). Could this be a hormone issue and GI issue or the same issue giving me all of these symptoms? And what would you recommend I do at this point because there seems to be SO much going on. I truly feel like I'm all over the place and doctors will just say this is normal at this phase of life and keep eating healthy and exercising. I'm really at a loss. Any help would be very appreciated.Missey Aaron: What experience do you have with correcting vision? I have worn glasses for over 30 years and have a minor astigmatism. I've been debating on LASIK, and recently came across a few people claiming they can correct vision naturally with longer lasting success. They are using a version of Bates' method of focusing on objects just beyond clarity and using slightly off prescription glasses. It sounds too good to be true, but then so does all the successes of naturopathy. What diet, supplement, exercise, etc do you recommend for improving vision? I searched podcasts for "correcting nearsightedness," "LASIK," "healing vision," and "eyes." All I found was a house call about omega 3 before LASIK, and nothing specific to naturally improving vision. I appreciate all you do, keep up the good fight! Shikha : Hi Dr Cabral, thank you for sharing your knowledge, I have learned a lot by listening to your podcasts. I am looking for a microwave substitute. What are your views on oven toaster and portable mini ovens such as hot logic and other. Do they have any adverse effect on health? Thanks Ann: Is there some thing that can be done to reduce body hair for men. Particularly back hair? Is there anything that can prevent excessive hair at puberty. Kimberly: Will the Rain Barrell Effect come out in Audio form any time soon? Pauline: Dear Dr Cabral, I have recently learned of you and your amazing work, and have already listened to many of your podcasts. They are so encouraging and helpful.1. I wondered if you are familiar with BII (Breast Implant Illness) and what your thoughts are on this. I have had implants for 17 year and only recently began to wonder and start to research if they are perhaps contributing to my now growing listen of ailments and health issues over the last few years. What I have read and discovered is terrifying to say the least. 2. I also struggled with infertility for many years, and had 10 years fertility treatment, which included 16 IVF's, plus many other fertility treatments which required the artificial stimulation of my egg production, and suppression of my own menstrual cycle monthly through daily injections. Perhaps at least 25 cycles in total. I have subsequently been blessed with two adopted sons, but wondered if these many fertility treatments could be a contributing factor to my declining health? I also went into early menopause at about 43 years old and am on HRT. I am 55 years old, in reasonably good health and shape, and follow a healthy eating lifestyle. Over the last 14 years I have developed food sensitivities / allergies, particularly to benzoates, msg and tartrazine which I cannot consume. Debilitating headaches, recurring sinus headeaches and infections, and over the last three years severe fatigue, low energy, impaired ability to concentrate or focus, inability to get a good nights sleep. This seems to be getting worse each month. I recently had blood tests for iron, Vit b12 and my thyroid which the GP tells me are all normal. I have had many antibiotics and cortisone over the years for these 'sinus infections' and headaches which I'm sure have damaged my gut too.The GP's recommendation is that I go on an SSRI, I'm not at all convinced. I would so welcome your thoughts and guidance. Thank you for sharing your own journey and wealth of knowledge with the world, you have given me hope that I too can heal and transform. Dustin: Hi Dr. Cabral. I want to start by saying thank you for all you do. I have been a long time listener and have learned so much. My question is about water. I have heard you say and have read a lot how squeezing lemon in water and adding natural sea salt can make the water more alkaline and gives it a charge. My question is: Is the water alkaline at that point or does the body make it alkaline as it goes through our system? Secondly, what are your thoughts about "structured water"? There are devices/home filters that you can by for your home that filter the water but mimic nature through native (natural) EMFs (minerals, angles, etc.) that supposedly restructure the water as nature does and brings it back to life. Have you looked at these much? I know natural spring water is the best way to go but the closest spring to me is over 2 hours away and my worry about getting water from a natural spring in the midwest is all the runoff of pesticides that has traveled through the soil and has contaminated all the water supply. I am wondering if structured water is the answer. I would love to hear your thoughts on these two things. Thanks again! When Amanda Tress created her virtual online bootcamp, she was one of the few people who went online without having had an offline fitness business first. Today, she teaches thousands of clients how to burn fat and live a healthier lifestyle online. I’ve been talking about health and fitness on the podcast a lot lately. In Episode 283, I shared my own wellness and weight loss journey. Then in Episode 284, I had my Director of Operations, Kelly Leardon, on the show to discuss weight loss and developing healthy eating and wellness habits. Christinna: Dear Stephen I just wanted to ask, when you start to send to Europe, will it ever be possible for me to buy a lot of some of your detox and other good stuff. I have a Health Coach clinic in Denmark and i would be so greatful if i could give my clients all of your produkt, the all in one, i dont trust any other than you. Are there any way this could be possible? Kind regard Christinna Sean: Dr. Cabral, I've been interested in the health benefits of the Sauna for a while and would like to know if I should purchase a Infrared or a heat based sauna. I listened to your podcast 524 and am familiar with that JAMA study you referenced. However, I think you misrepresented that study. It was solely based on Heat sauna's not Infrared. Specifically they state: Our results of hot Finnish sauna bathing with a mean temperature of 79°C cannot be directly applied to steam rooms, hot tubs, and some other types of saunas, which may operate at lower temperatures than a typical Finnish sauna and do not allow pouring water on the rocks. I know there are benefits from infrared but infrared saunas don't get close to 79 degrees C (174 Farenheit) Can you comment on this and do you know of any studies comparing Infrared and Heat saunas? Thanks Janelle: Hi Dr Cabral, Im just needing help I dont know where to start as there are so many different stories protocol etc etc I have Lupus Fibromyalgia and now just found out I have the MTHFR gene x2 I honestly just dont know what protocol I should do there is Vegan low protein keytone intermittent fasting plant based etc etc all these protocols people say fix autoimmune im just so confused and i keep getting worse any information would be great. Regards Janelle Judy: Can you please address appendicitis and its relation to inflammation? Jen: Hi Dr. Cabral, I love your podcast - it is really the only podcast I listen to on a regular basis. I'm a health coach and am always learning new things and able to dive deeper with my clients because of your information. Thank you! I have two questions (I hope that's ok) I have been considering studying naturopathy for some time but also have read the textbooks by Dr. Vasant Lad and feel very connected to Ayurveda. I was curious if you had any advice for a young mother of two kids (ages 5&2) who wants to further her career. Is becoming an Ayurvedic Practitioner something you think will be a wise investment or if I am wanting some more financial stability, would it be better to invest in 4-5 years of studying naturopathic medicine. I realize both are enormous financial/time commitments, so I'm just trying to choose the best path. Any advice would be appreciated - also would love to know about any programs you might be able to recommend. My family is full of allopathic doctors, so their advice (while well intentioned) is pretty one sided. Ok, second question, I am curious to know what you think of Medical Medium? I know you are always a very positive person and make a point to not go on your podcast and offer criticism of anyone/anything - I appreciate that about you! I really love how Medical Medium has gotten so many people excited about healing by eating fruits and veggies. It's awesome! But I was curious if you could speak about the idea he shares that thyroid disfunction is typically caused by "thyroid virus" aka Epstein-Barr virus. I don't know if you personally read these messages but I hope this gets to you. My husband and I are so passionate about health and wellbeing and we try to constantly educate ourselves in order to feel best. We don't go to regular doctors and although we try to eat and live healthily we sometimes are not sure if we are doing it right and if we have some definitions that we are not aware. Being healthy is very important to us especially now trying to get pregnant. Is there a way how I can schedule a skype consultation with you? I was looking into your tests and I am not sure which one do I need to take. Please let me know if you provide some type of phone consultation first before ordering the tests. I do not love to cook by nature. I have figured out how to find joy in the kitchen because I love to feel good, and I discovered that what I eat can make me feel great or pretty bad. At the end of a week, you will have some new smoothie practices, and hopefully feel great! Here are some things you might consider: Look up some great recipes. Designate a day of the week where you will send a smoothie to school. Create your own morning green smoothie practice. Build your pantry with smoothie ingredients. Build your freezer with smoothie ingredients. Find a friend and swop smoothies throughout the week. Accountability is a great thing when trying to create a new habit! Buy straws, to-go cups, ball jars or thermoses to make drinking smoothies more portable or fun. Find a protein powder you love. Remember to make sure it is whole food vs. isolated protein. Today, I got to speak with Amanda Tress. She is a digital marketing expert and she’s also a fitness and nutrition consultant. She’s the founder of FASTer Way to Fat Loss, which as you will hear, I have been a participant in her programs since January 1st. We talk a lot about self-care and why that’s so important and how that translates into success as female entrepreneurs. We also talk quite a lot about how she’s against Photoshop and why transparency is so important. She had a baby this year—as of the time of this recording—she’s got three kids but one of them is just a little tiny brand-new baby. We talk about balance and how balance can be a myth, but how she is really shifting her business so that she can scale it, keep it sustainable, and still be able to spend time at home with her kids. Can you explain why having a unique purpose is so important? As entrepreneurs we will inevitably hit up against challenges and hurdles, and if we have a purpose statement it really helps us to push past those challenges and hurdles. It also helps other people understand why they should invest in our business. What is one or two action items to help us figure out our unique purpose? This is definitely not something that will come immediately. If the listeners sit down immediately today for an hour and think, ‘Gosh! I need to land on this purpose that drives me? It most likely won't come immediately. In fact for me it's been a process over the past several years where I've really thought, ‘Gosh? What wakes me up in the morning? What truly fires me up? Whose problems do I really want to solve? What makes me angry?' But I have to say, it's important for people to be honest with themselves as well. Maybe a few people heard my purpose and they thought, ‘Wow? That sounds so great. I'm just going to make my purpose be that purpose.' It really doesn't work like that; we have to be honest with ourselves and really got to sit back and think, ‘Why am I gonna continue serving my audience even when I hit up against enormous challenges?'
