Don't let life's roadblocks and what may feel like a dead end hold you back any longer! In this week's Aging GreatFULLy power-hour of enlightYOUment, we welcome international life, leadership and relationship coach, Ann Papayoti, author of The Gift of Shift: Discover the Key Within You to Unlock Your Best Life, written with Tracey MacDonald. The Gift of Shift is Ann's gift to those who are struggling with life's unforeseen consequences and fear what is ahead. She shows how easy change can be once you embrace the gift within the challenge, and set your course for a lighter heart, and alternative emotion, and a surrender within the moment. It's easy to get overwhelmed in life and only see the obstacle, challenge or setback or as shared in the opening—only “see” the dead end. But there's always another choice. Ann's work is founded on personal experiences of having endured some of life's most brutal blows, from her college best friend deliberately stealing her high school sweetheart, the loss of an infant child, surviving a belligerent and abusive husband, having a child born with epilepsy and other neurological disorders, a family suicide, being bitten by a poisonous snake that went undiagnosed for months and the list continues. But despite it all, she found the gift hidden within each experience and utilized the gift of choice to respond to the challenges. And she's on a mission to share with the world how they too, can open their gifts when facing unfortunate circumstances, instead of freezing up, shutting down or giving into depression or other unhealthy emotions, and alternatively choosing a better, more life-affirming, adaptable approach that can lead to new possibilities and a better path forward. In her book, The Gift of Shift, “Gift” is the center theme of each chapter and readers will discover how to make “shift” happen within their own lives and unique circumstances. The book is written as a guide to make it easy to choose change. It's an inspiring hour from beginning to end and Aging Rebels will definitely want to not only purchase The Gift of Shift at their favorite bookseller, but also visit Ann Papayoti at www.skyviewcoaching.com to learn more about how she guides others towards personal growth. In this Aging GreatFULLy power-hour of enlightYOUment, we discuss an important topic to everyone—relationships! Tarot cards began to be used in the 14th century in various parts of Europe. They probably originated in Italy since the earliest writings are from 1391. The cards were known as Tarocco. They are made up of 22 major arcana cards, whose effigy represent the Personality Archetypes; and 56 minor arcana cards integrating 14 in four series: Pentacles, Wands, Swords and Cups represent the spectrum of human experience.Tara has studied and practiced the Tarot for 4 decades and Jason has studied under Tara. He then proceeded to expand his knowledge and is now known throughout the world as the “Om Tarot Wizard” - Jason regularly conducts classes in personal and group sessions. As we welcome the New Year, host Holley Kelley welcomes listeners with a simple message, to make the year theirs! Instead of hoping this year will bring great bounty to us, Holley reminds us that we already have all that is necessary to bring forth awesomeness to ROCK THIS YEAR! And, there is no time like the present to get started! She calls upon listeners to bring their dreams to reality, through creating a “2022 Matters Most List” and make it and themselves a priority each and every step of the way. She reminds Aging Rebels of their capacity to achieve whatever they desire. As a globally recognized thought-leader and founder of the American Medication Institute and innovator and founder of January's National Conscience Month, Leonard shows us how to give our conscience sway in our life! Perlmutter shares how ALL of our decisions support and guide us to act in our highest good, leading to a life of joy, love, peace and both personal and professional success. As author of Your Conscience: The Key to Unlock Limitless Wisdom, Creativity and Solve All of Life's Challenges, Perlmutter articulates the powerful role of our conscience, highlighting its supreme intelligence, and helps us better understand the Four Functions of the Mind. Using his shared wisdom, we gain insight as to why perspective is everything and he helps us identify how to tune into our own conscience. He educates on this complicated topic in a simplistic way that makes sense and it's no wonder Jiminy Cricket is AMI's self-proclaimed spoke person, as he does believe we should, “Always let your conscience be your guide.” But Perlmutter asks us not to take his word for it —calling upon each listener to experiment with what he shares. It's an educational, empowering and entertaining hour from beginning to end, offering tips, tools and guidance towards unlocking our full potential of wisdom and unlimited possibilities. Leonard has presented informative workshops on the benefits of meditation and Yoga Science at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Kaiser Permanente, the Albany Medical College, The New York Times forum on Yoga Science, the Commonwealth Club of California, the University of Wisconsin School of Nursing, the Washington University Medical School the University of Colorado Medical and the West Point Association of Graduates. Over the past twenty-five years, he has served on the faculties of the New England Institute of Ayurvedic Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts and the International Himalayan Yoga Teachers Association in Calgary, Canada. Join us for an Aging GreatFULLy Old-Fashioned Christmas Storytime with Holley Kelley! Some traditions never grow old, and story time gatherings are certainly one of them, regardless of our age. You're invited to gather around the fireplace or snuggle up with your favorite blanket, beverage, family or pet and enjoy the timeless tradition of storytelling as host, Holley Kelley, shares some holiday stories she wrote just for listeners. Two are from last year's Christmastime episode—but that's the great thing about the holidays—the tradition of cherishing recycled stories told year after year. And we have a new narrative this year too, founded on truth that began long ago, around Christmastime. We hope you will enjoy all three special and unique pieces in this special holiday tribute hour. In the hustle and bustle and demands of life, especially this time of year, we hope you will find some joy and lose yourself in the creative imaginings of storytelling. These stories are about family, love, forgiveness and never giving up on your dreams. They remind us of the true meaning of Christmastime and how important it is to carry forth the essence of all it encompasses, year-round. The messages in these stories also bring forth the unwavering significance of unconditional love, what it means to belong, how you're never too old, it's never too late, and how family… is well… family—sometimes blood related, and sometimes it's who we call “our people.”Whether you celebrate special holidays or not, we hope every listener enjoys the messages woven within these storylines. On behalf of the Aging GreatFULLy show, we wish each listener a season of happiness and joy, may your life be full of what matters most, health, hope, passion, love, peace, and happiness.Thank you, amazing Aging Rebels, for listening to the Aging GreatFULLy show! Join us for a Holley Jolly Fun-Filled Christmas with Santa Claus but don't take us too serious because we're not, even if we try! Santa Claus, joins the Aging GreatFULLy show to tell us how things really are behind the scenes at the North Pole. But be forewarned, it's not a show for the young boys and girls because Santa, aka, my brother, Del Kelley, talks about liquored-up reindeer, what really happens at the Kringle Mingle, and some other surprises I didn't see coming! You'll be able to tell it was hard to keep my composure throughout a lot of this dialogue because my brother -- I mean Santa -- has that effect on me. It's a good thing that laughter is the best medicine! With the year we've had, the challenges we often face, struggles life can throw our way, I hope this episode allows you to get lost in some imaginative Christmas fun and lose yourself in a laugh or two. This episode is meant to entertain; I acknowledge that my jokes are bad but my hopes are to simply take your mind off of things and bring some enjoyment into your life and make your Yuletide merry! Our family laughs a lot, at each other, at life, and at ourselves. There's something to be said for laughter. I believe we can't get enough of it.Santa shares how to make the "Nice List" and what he does with all those letters he receives! And he also answers the big question we're all wondering -- will Rudulph lead the sleigh again this year? It's a big reveal from beginning to end, including what he does during his off time, what he wears when he's not outfitted in the red suit, and so much more surprising North Pole News you'll only hear here! There's some serious aspects of this show too, hidden amidst the narratives, humor and creative imaginings. Santa reminds us about the true meaning of this sacred and Glorious season. And the empirical value of kindness, and how each day offers a new opportunity to begin again with a fresh beginning. And Santa shares the importance of forgiveness too as he talks about the Naughty to Nice List system implemented at the NP. Christmas reminds us of the importance of sharing our generosity of spirit with others but Santa asks us to remember to do this year round. The gift of Christmas is a wonderful one to celebrate. So, I hope you laugh along with us through corny jokes, an atypical Santa, childlike imagination and wonder and join in our holiday cheer and celebrate this time of year with lots of fun and lightheartedness alongside us! May your Christmas be merry, bright, healthy, happy, full of laughter and love! Thank you, amazing Aging Rebels, for listening to the Aging GreatFULLy show! We create this show for YOU the listener! But most importantly, we learn about the brain's plasticity allowing us to ability to improve areas where we may have experienced a deficit in those formative and younger years and this empowers us as adults to take the wheel and make positive improvements to make the rest of the years the best of the years moving forward. We discuss disappointment, forgiveness, and capacity for self-love and how the relationship with ourselves is an important one for many reasons. We also realize that when we look around and only see ourselves, it's not only important to like that person in the mirror, but we also need to be able to count on them. We need to take stock in who we are. But also, it's beneficial to become our own best friend, get behind ourselves, support ourselves in this journey of life, and know what we stand for and really appreciate what it's taken to become the person we are today. When we do the work, we realize, when we've gotten ourselves to a place where we are good with the person in the mirror, we are ready for what the world –and others—may bring our way. Getting good with who we are is also wonderful rite of passage towards Aging GreatFULLy as well!Be sure and join us next week as the dialogue continues in part two, Relationship RescYOU 200: Me, We, World with Dr. Erica Goodstone. In this powerful hour, Leonard shares what the conscience is, which may surprise many! He also uncovers why it can be difficult to follow the advice of our conscience and defines the four functions of the mind, Ego, Senses, Unconscious, and Conscious. We discover the incredible power of our thoughts and the relationship regarding how they really work towards manifesting into becoming things. One thing we realize, is that it's important to pay attention and be mindful of our mind--consciously conscience—but also, note which part has the loudest voice. It's an enlightening and educational hour from beginning to end allowing us to discover more about our own conscience and as Perlmutter shares, “when regularly exercised, can become sharp and clear like a brilliant mirror” which, of course, makes it earlier to reflect our inner wisdom and guide our actions. There are some things that just don't go out of style, no matter how much time passes by. That is some of the core values taught by our ancestors that came before us who lived to tell the stories of their day. And we too, are building and creating our stories, the introductions of which often began unfolding early in our youth. At nearly 81 years young, returning guest, Jim Owen still has a lot of living, passion, purpose and stories to share! Determined to get fit in his 70's, the 80-year-old former Wall Street executive, best-selling author of Cowboy Ethics, and Just Move, documentary filmmaker, social entrepreneur, and global speaker, Jim Owen, inspires others through his fitness journey, positive and empowering thoughts about life and living and his recent documentary film, The Art of Aging Well. We unpack his best-selling and highly inspirational book, Cowboy Ethics: What It Takes to Win at Life, and how he came to explore the Code of The West. Jim will tell you he had a fascination with cowboys since his youth and they had forever been his heroes. But it was his ability to cherry pick their core values that truly is astonishing. And as he shares on this show, that isn't just my opinion. His Code of the West was declared as the “Official Code of the West” by the Governor of Wyoming…a high honor indeed! Speaking of honor, Jim's codes aren't just for cowboys and day's gone by. They embody the best of fundamental values, iconic traits for living a life rich with principled beliefs in a modern era. 10 tenets like Courage, Pride, Fairness and Promises, all of which he outlines on the show. The book itself is a work of art and each page wisdom infused stories to back up the reason for the code of ethic. But his resonating message is one of the fact that we all need heroes during this time, and his hope is that the Cowboy Way will inspire everyone to reach for the Hero Within. But he's much more than a cowboy enthusiast and admirer --though admittedly not a cowboy himself, and says quite openly he's even scared of horses. But what he is – is a BOLD life enthusiast and absolute Aging GreatFULLy Role Model! In his book shared on a previous episode, Just Move, he shares his journey from couch potato to fitness by simply making the choice to “move” and encourages everyone to simply do so. His latest project is another powerful one, a multi-segment documentary film, The Art of Aging Well and spotlights everyday super-agers the art of aging itself. Listeners are invited to view it on his website at www.justmoveforlife.com for free, where you can also learn more about all the fascinating and inspiring work he is doing, purchase his books and connect with him.An inspiring show from beginning to end you won't want to miss! Join us in this episode of Aging GreatFULLy as we welcome Ellen Rittberg, award winning journalist, humorist and attorney who represented senior citizens and children in court for over twenty-five years. She also wrote reports and recommendations for judges in guardianship cases. In her humorous self-help book, Why is Grandma Naked? Caring for your Aging Parent, she describes what worked for her while being a caregiver for her mother after moving in with her mother for six years, while working full time. She chose to write this book from a humorous perspective to lighten the load of caregivers, knowing their roles are often stressful she wanted to bring moments of laughter, comfort and even peace to their lives. Ellen treats listeners to an on-air excerpt read; and explains the importance of laughter despite what uncontrollable circumstances life doles out. While written in a lighthearted manner, the book contains quick-read chapters of Ellen's personal wisdom and experiences of what she learned as a caregiver and serves as a FUNdamental roadmap for others to use to navigate their own caregiver journey. Knowing that caregivers are often busy, this self-help guide is part manual, part support book, and part just the witty lift one might need to smile their way through the realities of caregiving. Ellen openly shares her journey of caring for her mother with cognitive decline and how their relationship changed over time. And candidly shares how in spite of the changes in the relationship, there were still ways to create special moments of connections, joy and even laughter.
