An offset account, linked to a mortgage, allows daily transaction access, providing flexibility and potentially larger tax deductions if the property becomes an investment. In contrast, a redraw account holds excess funds paid toward the mortgage, which can be withdrawn, though with less flexibility and potential tax disadvantages for investment purposes. In this episode, Mel Butcher and Michelle Redfern discuss the opportunity for leaders to learn how to provide better feedback, with a keen focus on the gender differences in feedback reception. They discuss the importance of specific, clear, and timely feedback to foster growth and avoid the pitfalls of vague critiques. Additionally, they explore the systemic biases women face, particularly in performance reviews, and offer practical strategies for managers to provide equitable and constructive feedback. The episode also touches on the often detrimental "compliment sandwich" method and the significance of avoiding personality-based feedback.Episode Highlights:Importance of Actionable Feedback: Feedback should be specific, timely, and clear, focusing on measurable actions rather than vague or personality-based comments.Gender Bias in Feedback: Women often receive more personality-based and less actionable feedback compared to men, which can hinder their career progression.Effective Feedback Structure:Communicate Expectations: Clearly outline what is expected and why it is important.Check for Understanding: Ensure the recipient fully understands the feedback and the expected outcomes.Follow-up for Compliance: Regularly check in to monitor progress and offer support.Pitfalls of the Compliment Sandwich: Research shows that sandwiching critical feedback between compliments is ineffective and can be confusing.Feedback Example:Ineffective: "Great job, but you need to improve your performance."Effective: "Your facilitation in the client meeting was excellent because it included everyone and generated great ideas. This reassured our client about the project's progress."Leadership Call to Action:Provide Specific Feedback: Avoid general comments. Instead, give detailed, actionable feedback that outlines what was done well and what can be improved.Train Managers: Ensure that all managers are trained to give equitable and constructive feedback, avoiding biases.Create Clear Success Criteria: Define and communicate clear success criteria at the beginning of any project or performance period.Seek Feedback Actively: Encourage team members to ask for specific feedback on their performance and career progression.Avoid Personality Critiques: Focus feedback on behaviors and outcomes, not on personality traits.Textio Research: https://textio.com/feedback-bias-2023The Leadership Compass: https://www.michelleredfern.com/books Hosted on Acast. On today's episode we are talking about how not having a strong business continuity plan might be killing your company.Patrick Hardy helps individuals and organizations prevent disruptions from ever becoming a disaster. Drawing on his world-class expertise in disaster preparedness & response, he distills memorable lessons audiences can use to break the Crisis Creation Chain and transform every disruption into an opportunity for learning.Episode Highlights:Importance of Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity: Emphasizes the critical nature of disaster recovery and business continuity planning, highlighting the risk of business closure without a solid plan, as demonstrated by the study following the 1993 World Trade Center bombings.Employee Empowerment and Communication: Effective disaster recovery plans involve empowering employees and maintaining clear communication channels. Employees need to understand their roles and responsibilities in times of crisis to ensure a smooth recovery process.Adaptation and Engagement: It's not just about having a plan on paper; it's about understanding the needs and dynamics of the people who will execute it, whether they're oyster fishermen in Alabama or tech workers in Silicon Valley.Insurance Company Ambiguity: Insurance companies may officially claim to be agnostic regarding whether businesses should resume operations or accept payouts after a disaster. However, there might be internal considerations where companies prefer not to insure certain high-risk areas, especially prone to natural disasters like flooding, hurricanes, or wildfires.Understanding Insurance Policies: Business owners need to thoroughly understand their insurance policies, including coverage limitations and exceptions. Misunderstandings often arise when policies are not carefully reviewed, leading to denied claims, particularly in cases like pandemics or cyber attacks where specific provisions may be required for coverage.Empowerment and Decision-Making: In disaster scenarios, clear lines of authority are crucial. Businesses must empower employees at all levels to make informed judgment calls during emergencies, especially when management or key decision-makers are unavailable. Top 3 Takeaways for the Audience:Disaster preparedness can be empowering and strengthen you in the long run, rather than just doom and gloom. When creating a disaster plan, focus on empowering those around you, whether it's for your family, pets, or business.Dependency on other institutions can exacerbate disasters. Always have backup plans and diversify your resources to ensure true resilience and emerge stronger after the crisis. How to Connect with Patrick:Website: https://disasterpatrick.com/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/disasterpatrick/

Functionality is always at the top of her priority while ensuring to maintain edge on the beauty side. She has the skill to find that good blending spot of beauty and design without sacrificing functionality. Listen to this good exchange of knowledge between Tina and john! Along the way, she have had several questions regarding the process of working with a designer.  She feel there is a misconception with designers.  It's like as soon as you say it, money starts pouring out of your pocket.  The point of hiring a designer is to help you SAVE money.  How is that you ask?  Knowing the budget from the beginning, a plan can be put in place so that there aren't last minute purchases, things forgotten and time wasted.  In addition, we know the best places to spend money so you can sign new tenants quickly or to put on the market for a faster sell.  A successful project is when you can minimize your time in the renovating process and get the most out of it.  NOI/ROI is where it's at and our job is to increase those numbers through design. --- Did you enjoy today's episode?
