“He is not here. He is risen.”This Easter, we celebrated the truth that changes everything: because of the cross, we are forgiven, and because of the resurrection, we are free. In this message titled The Great Exchange, we explore the beauty of Jesus taking on our sin, shame, and false identity—and giving us His righteousness, freedom, and purpose in return.
In today's episode, Colleen breaks down why willpower is an exhausting and unsustainable way to change your behavior. If you've ever tried to “power through” not drinking or force yourself into good habits, only to fall back into old patterns, this episode will shift the way you think about change. Instead of relying on willpower to control your drinking, your eating, your productivity, or anything else, Colleen shows you how to design an environment that makes success inevitable—without the mental struggle, without the exhausting inner battle, and without feeling like you're constantly fighting against yourself. Key Takeaways: 1. Willpower is a Finite Resource—You Will Run Out Willpower is just forced focus—it's what you use when you don't actually want to do something. The more decision fatigue, stress, or depletion you experience, the less willpower you have. If you're relying on willpower to avoid drinking at night, you're already set up to fail. 2. External Rewards Make You Feel Powerless We are conditioned to chase performance-based rewards—grades, promotions, social validation. This mindset makes success feel scarce—like you have to constantly prove yourself to earn your own power. If someone (or something) gives you power, it's not actually yours. 3. You're Not Chasing a Goal—You're Chasing a Feeling It's not about not drinking, it's about how you think not drinking will make you feel. When you place your self-worth in achieving a goal instead of designing a life that supports you, you create an exhausting cycle of struggle. Real power comes from creating a life where you feel good right now—not just after you hit some goal. Actionable Steps to Make Change Easy 1. Stop Beating Yourself Up—Start Observing Instead Instead of thinking, I need more willpower, ask: “How can I make this easier for myself?” Notice the conditions that lead to overdrinking, and shift your environment—not just your mindset. 2. Design Your Success Instead of Forcing It If your goal is to drink less, don't just “try harder”—change your surroundings. Example: Instead of sitting in front of the TV and trying not to drink, switch up your routine. Take a bath, read in a different room, go for an evening walk—anything that naturally moves you away from the habit. 3. Make Your Future Self's Life Easier Instead of spending willpower on not drinking, use it to set up a better tomorrow: ✅ Get a good night's sleep. ✅ Hydrate and eat nourishing food. ✅ Move your body and reduce stress before it builds up. The more you invest in yourself today, the less you'll need to rely on willpower tomorrow. Homework: Ask yourself: ✔ Where in my life am I forcing things instead of designing things? ✔ How can I change my environment so I don't have to struggle as much? ✔ What if my power wasn't in my performance, but in how I take care of myself? Because real power doesn't come from proving yourself—it comes from setting yourself up for success. Click here to BOOK A DISCOVERY CALL. Joy Isn't Just a Feeling—It's an Ancestral ResponsibilityWe get so caught up in the hustle, the fight, the guarding of our peace that joy starts to feel like a luxury we don't have time for. But what if joy was never meant to be an afterthought? In this episode, we're breaking down the difference between waiting for joy to happen and choosing it intentionally—because, as Cleaver Cruz says, "Black joy is an ancestral responsibility."If life has been feeling heavy, if burnout is knocking at your door, this one's for you. We're unpacking a simple, powerful tool to help you reclaim joy in even the darkest moments. No fluff, no unrealistic positivity—just real talk on making joy a habit, not a happenstance.P.S. If you love these kinds of conversations, I'm always talking about joy, energy hygiene, and finding ways to feel less on edge in this choatic world over on Threads. Welcome back to the podcast! Today's episode is all about setting up your week for success with clarity, focus, and momentum. If you're feeling overwhelmed or find it challenging to prioritize what's most important, this episode is for you. Episode Highlights: The importance of intentional planning for gaining weekly clarity and focus. How I use a “primer” approach in my membership program for brain-dumping and prioritizing weekly tasks. Introduction to the "START" Process—a 5-step framework to bring momentum to your week, month, or any new project. The START Process: S - Set Your Intention: Anchor yourself by deciding what matters most this week. Think about William James' quote: "My experience is what I agree to attend to." Focus on what you want to create and how you want to show up. T - Tune Into the Feeling: It's not just about what you want to achieve, but who you want to be in the process. Feelings like calm, confidence, or joy can be intentionally generated to support your goals. A - Anchor a Habit: Identify a small, actionable habit that supports your focus. For example, journaling, mindfulness, or a simple breathing exercise can help ground you in your desired state of being. R - Reflect: Check in on your progress regularly. Are you aligned with your goals and intentions? Adjust and pivot as needed to stay on track. T - Take Time for Yourself: Schedule “white space” to recharge, get creative, and connect with yourself. This time is essential for refilling your mental and emotional reserves. Key Takeaway: By setting an intention, tuning into the right feelings, anchoring supportive habits, reflecting often, and giving yourself space to recharge, you can create a week filled with purpose, productivity, and ease. In this episode, we're working on our element of Resilience and exploring the second Root of Resilience known as managing energy. The Roots of Resilience were laid out in one of Dr. Emmons book, "The Chemistry of Calm." We'll work through this foundational aspect of resilience, focusing on how we can keep our resilience tank more full by returning to our natural rhythms of rest and activity to help us feel more refreshed, engaged, and connected. We'll also learn about three "energy thieves" (oxidative stress, blood sugar dysregulation, and systemic inflammation) and how you can overcome those thieves to reclaim your natural energy cycles. The key strategies we'll focus on are: adopting a diet rich in whole foods, supplementing wisely with vitamins and antioxidants (if needed), and engaging in simple, enjoyable exercise like walking. In this episode of The A to Z English Podcast, Xochitl and Jack discuss the differences between the words jealousy and envy.Jealousy and envy are related emotions, but they have distinct differences in terms of their underlying feelings and expressions:Jealousy:Definition: Jealousy is typically the fear of losing something you already possess, such as a relationship, a possession, or a status.Feeling: It often involves a sense of insecurity, possessiveness, and anxiety about a potential threat to what you have.Example: Feeling jealous when your partner spends a lot of time with someone else because you're afraid they might leave you for that person.Expression: Jealousy can lead to behaviors like trying to control or monitor the situation to protect what you have.Envy:Definition: Envy, on the other hand, is the desire to possess something that someone else has, whether it's a quality, possession, or situation.Feeling: Envy typically stems from feelings of inadequacy or desire for what someone else possesses.Example: Feeling envious of a colleague's promotion because you wish you had the same success and recognition.Expression: Envy may lead to feelings of resentment or bitterness toward the person who possesses what you desire, but it doesn't necessarily involve a fear of losing something you already have.In summary, jealousy is more focused on the fear of losing what you already possess, while envy is about wanting something that someone else has. Both emotions can be powerful and may lead to negative thoughts and behaviors if not managed properly, but understanding the distinction between them can help in addressing and coping with these feelings.Podcast Website:https://atozenglishpodcast.com/a-to-z-quick-tips-26-jealousy-vs-envy/Social Media:Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/671098974684413/Tik Tok:@atozenglish1Instagram:@atozenglish22Twitter:@atozenglish22A to Z Facebook Page:https://www.facebook.com/theatozenglishpodcastCheck out our You Tube Channel:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCds7JR-5dbarBfas4Ve4h8ADonate to the show: https://app.redcircle.com/shows/9472af5c-8580-45e1-b0dd-ff211db08a90/donationsRobin and Jack started a new You Tube channel called English Word Master. Mastering Intensive Care is returning from being offline for a full 12 months. In this episode, I ask you to ponder, “how are you going?” after the lengthy pandemic, which has lulled after the worst of the storm but has not yet settled into a state of calm. Whilst few intensive care clinicians have actively diminished what we've been through over the last few years, the relentless world of Intensive Care continues unabated. There have been many learnings from the pandemic, but we mustn't sweep the emotions we've witnessed under the carpet. As you listen to this shorter episode than usual, I hope you'll ponder questions about how you have managed yourself during the pandemic, both individually and in your local ICU community. I share what I've witnessed in myself and my colleagues before offering a few thoughts on where we might focus our actions in recovering from what we've been through. Thank you for listening as I use this opportunity to reinvigorate this podcast after 12 months of languishing. Hour 2: The excitement continues as Mets fans are FEELING IT this morning. Here, Boomer and Gio discuss the impact the Correa move will have on the rest of the clubhouse. A jealous Yankees fan calls in and Boomer laughs him off. Jerry returns for an update and before he starts, Gio remembers the battle between Steve Cohen and ARod/JLo for the Mets and Mets fans are living a dream with Cohen. Jerry has a clip of Billy Eppler saying the Mets aren't done and will be opportunistic. Less than a day later, Carlos Correa is headed to Queens. Justin Verlander was introduced yesterday and wants to pitch well into his 40s. How many Mets fans will buy season tickets today? Boomer and Gio can't believe Franco Harris passed away after seeing him look fine in an interview yesterday. Jerry has a story of a man who walked into a hospital with an explosive World War I shell lodged somewhere it shouldn't be. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer explains how the Mets' luxury tax bill is higher than many teams spend on their entire roster. One caller says the Mets are under a ton of pressure and Boomer and Gio agree.
Hour 1: “Are you kidding me?!” That's how Gio starts the show after the middle-of-the-night news that Carlos Correa and the Mets have agreed to a deal. Boomer wonders if Scott Boras and Correa orchestrated the move. Mets fans are jubilant this morning. Steve Cohen is spending like a drunken sailor and everyone loves it. Gio says Steve Cohen was as bothered by the end of last season as the fans were and that the Mets now act the way every fan wants their team to. Jerry starts with the unfortunate breaking news that Franco Harris has passed away. Then he gets into the local news of the day: Carlos Correa coming to the Mets. It has been a ROUGH offseason for the San Francisco Giants. Zach Wilson will start against the Jaguars tomorrow night. Sunday Ticket might be moving to YouTube and Gio doesn't like the details of the deal. In the final segment of the hour, we hear from extremely happy Mets fans, including Boomer and Gio, after Steve Cohen went the extra mile to try and win a World Series. Hour 3: The Carlos Correa celebration continues. A Yankees fan wants the Yankees to match the Mets in terms of big moves and Gio doesn't see it happening. Jerry returns for an update but first Gio points out how everyone working with the show right now is a happy Mets fan. The guys pay tribute to Franco Harris and oh by the way, the Knicks won their 8th straight game last night. In the final segment of the hour, the guys discuss Carlos Correa changing positions to play with Lindor and how the Mets are becoming a global brand. Hour 4: The final hour begins the same way the first three did today. Boomer in Gio are still in disbelief after waking up to the news that Carlos Correa is signing with the Mets. Less than 24 hours after Correa's press conference with the Giants was postponed, the Mets deal came together. Gio wonders if we've ever seen anything like this before with a big contract in sports? Are other MLB owners going to be angry about Steve Cohen's spending? One caller was so excited to share the news with his son that he broke his wrist rushing around in the dark. Is any owner loved the way Mets fans love Steve Cohen? Jerry returns for his final update of the day but first Boomer remembers Franco Harris. Gio explains how the 1972 Steelers losing the AFC Championship game a week after the Immaculate Reception was overshadowed at the time because the game was played the same day Roberto Clemente passed away. Boomer wonders how quickly fans of other teams gave up on their now-star QBs with Jets fans growing more and more frustrated with Zach Wilson. In the final segment of the show, a Yankees fan wonders if there's a conspiracy and then says the Mets should stop trying to be the Yankees. Boomer and Gio can just laugh to wrap up a fun day.

A few years ago - an idea for a book called ‘small pleasures' came to me. It was intended as a collection of all the things that can give us a great sense of well-being, even though in themselves they might seem slight. The idea drifted about and occasionally I'd add another one to the mental list. But I couldn't quite see how the book would look and feel, or how it would come into being. Then, over the past few months the idea has returned - though this time with much more clarity about the direction it needed to take. And though it's changed shape - it feels like it is still very much connected to that original thought. And it's led to a whole new book, now making her way in the world.**All the ways I tell myself I love you**Self-love is far easier than we might think - even though it can sometimes feel a bit esoteric or nebulous or theoretical... ESPECIALLY when we're not FEELING IT.And we can look at others who are expressing self-love and think ‘it's ok for them, they haven't got to deal with x y z'. But the reality is that we ALL have 'stuff' in our lives that can get in the way, and make self-compassion / self-love feel hard to attain. Which, of course, also means that we can ALL practice self-love, in whatever way makes sense for us.My ways of telling myself 'I love you' will be different from yours. But I hope with all my heart that this new book speaks to you, as the words and illustrations inside it spoke to me.Find out more https://www.hennyflynn.co.uk/all-the-waysAs one client said: "It's such a beautiful and simple but powerful book. In early 2021, Adam Grant published an article in the New York Times that said, "There's a name for the blah you're feeling: It's called languishing." The article quickly went viral. Adam spoke to an experience that we had all been experiencing. Over the past couple of years, we have moved from grief and sadness to an overwhelming sense of languishing due to the pandemic and ongoing challenges of life. We just feel meh. Empty, stuck, stagnate, joyless. It's not mental illness, but we're definitely not experiencing mental well-being either. We're stuck between sickness and true health. And I don't know about you, but I'm ready to get unstuck. I'm ready to start living again. I'm ready to show up to my life joyful, hopeful, and expectant. I want to get back to living an active, engaged life of meaning, no matter what the pandemic or the political, or social, or economical world around me has to say about it. In this episode, we get clear on what languishing is and discuss what it takes to move beyond it. We learn that many of the things we've turned to in order to cope with the challenges of life in recent years are temporary fixes that often leave us feeling more empty. Instead, we have the option to find the cure to languishing. And the cure for languishing is an active engagement with our actual lives in the real world. Many of us can relate to burning out, which can result from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. Recently, I found myself RUSHING hard core. It was a very full day. I was finishing up a project that had an approaching deadline that I was doing for another business owner. I was writing guest blog posts for a friend's website. I was prepping a bunch of overnight oats to try and make my mornings easier. I had Intuitive Eating coaching calls with clients that I was prepping for and then also writing up session recap notes for, post our phone session. Then I needed to pick up loved ones from work, play with the pets, do my workout, get supper on the table, go to my Zoom Bible study .... WHEW! It a jam packed day and I was FEELING IT. But full days don't have to be frantic days. Or days that we don't enjoy. When I noticed I was exhausted only midway through my busy day, I realized why: I hadn't intentionally added any Wiggle Room into my day. I'd just been flying from one task to the next, with no breathing room in-between. Resting BEFORE your to-do list is done is OKAY! And when we don't, oh boy, do we feel it! Tune into today's Bonus Episode and hear me explain what The Power of Wiggle Room is and how it will change your life! You've most likely seen or heard about this idea of languishing, if you've been online at all this year. James Hein returns to The Well Mind to dive further into our spiritual wellness. In this episode, James and I explore the many facets of suffering and how it impacts our life, wellness, and relationships. Our discussion is wide ranging, touching on our experiences of guilt and shame, grief and loss, and the search for meaning and purpose. We talk about injustice, theodicy, anthropocentrism, and our justification through Christ. James offers insightful assessments of how constructing our worldly identity around our accomplishments, connections, and character inevitably leads to suffering, whereas rooting our identity in our status as redeemed children of God provides peace amidst the many storms of life.
