In this special episode, Dr. Patty and Pastor Jay Brogan discussed the role of music in worship in both our connecting with God and how that ministers to His heart. How does God inhabit the praises of his people? What is the proper biblical purpose of worship music? How does it help you connect with the heart of God and how is it minister to His heart when we worship with a pure heart? Pastor Jay shares how musicians received the download of lyrics, rhythm, and instrumentation from the Lord. He explains how God can wear our worship offerings like the garment and also speaks of the responsibility to steward and release any messages that the Lord gives you. Dr. Patty shares a story of how music was able to heal her heart after the loss of her mother. Jesus connects with you through music in your Experience Jesus encounter time. This week we present another installment of our ongoing series called “Grave Mistakes: They Shoulda Been Huge!!!”. This band is a true treasure from the Great White North that plays mean power chords and punch-you-in-the-mouth rock n' roll! The lead singer and guitarist is a swaggering rock n' roll force to be reckoned with… Twenty-Seven years into their career at this point, but most Americans don't know him or his amazing band. That is a travesty. Guess who's back??? Say his name and say it loud like it's a hit song… DANKO JONES!!!This episode is rooted in our Should Have Been category. We are starting with Part 2 of a 2-part episode because Kevin just wanted to do so… It's his show and he's an idiot, so let him have it. Hopefully, we can turn you on to this “other” amazing Canadian power trio. What is it with Canada and power trios anyway? Have a listen and find out for yourself! Industry veteran, musician, composer, producer and engineer Mark Bingham has had a long and decidedly eclectic career in music. A medical doctor, a supernaturalist, and a philosopher investigate mysterious tracks that appear in the snow. Genre: Mystery, Science Fiction Excerpt: The three special investigators arrived a few weeks after the tracks were first seen. They each hailed from a different part of the country. Each had a different expertise. The supernaturalist. The medical doctor. And the philosopher. And each had been briefed on the happenings in the town. But as was their practice, according to the root training that they shared, all three investigators sat in the mayor's office, and entreated him to tell them in his own words what was happening in his town. Change is difficult. Some embrace it, some resist it. It might seem obvious, but change is inevitable.Welcome to episode 92 of See Hear Podcast.Jazz is an art form that never remained stagnant. Through creativity or financial necessity, post-war jazz moved from the big swing orchestras to smaller ensembles and bebop became the dominant form. In the late 50s, some jazz musicians decided that, as exciting as bebop was, they wanted to take jazz music in a different direction with band members not having to rely on a structure – neither rhythmically, melodically, or tonally. Avant garde jazz had its champions over the years including people like Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, Cecil Taylor, Carla Bley, Albert Ayler and Sun Ra amongst many others.Bernie and I speak with drummer and film director Tom Surgal about his great new documentary “Fire Music: The Story of Free Jazz”. His documentary tells the story of how this music was developed and supported over the years. The music had many detractors – music venue owners, jazz publications, and saddest of all, other jazz musicians – those who were afraid of the music's evolution. Given that there appears to be no attempt to put free jazz into its perspective on film (and we speak about who is possibly responsible for that).Tom was a fantastic conversationalist and we spoke about his own performance background, how musicians took on a DIY attitude when the mainstream rejected them (and probably influenced punk years later), how free jazz musicians formed collectives, angry sounding music being full of love, civil rights, and the music's ongoing legacy. Also, Tom tells a story about Charlie Parker and Miles Davis that would probably find a happy home on Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast. Our huge thanks to Tom for being such a wonderful guest and to Lin Culbertson (who scored the film) for organising the chat. You can go to the website https://www.firemusic.org/ for all information about screenings and to keep an eye out for the streaming and physical media release. If you've been enjoying the show, please consider giving us a favourable review on iTunes and let your friends know that our show exists. Ian White - Gallon Drunk & Lydia Lunch - in conversation with David Eastaugh Revered drummer Ian White releases his first solo project, named Blyth, the compelling instrumental album entitled, Confessions of a Justified Sinner. Since 1993, Ian White has been a key member of the influential and passionate UK band Gallon Drunk, playing drums on six critically acclaimed albums – In The Long Still Night (1996), Black Milk soundtrack (1999), Fire Music (2002), The Rotten Mile (2007), The Road Gets Darker from Here (2012) and the band's last LP, The Soul Of The Hour (2014). In 2009, with Gallon Drunk guitarist, organist and lead vocalist James Johnston and venerated saxophonist Terry Edwards, Ian White was a founder member of Big Sexy Noise; visionary No Wave singer, performer and writer Lydia Lunch's vehicle for spirited musical adventures. To date, Big Sexy Noise have delivered two highly commended albums – their eponymous 2009 debut and the stirring Trust The Witch (2011). During 2002, Ian White played drums live for Barry Adamson (a founder member of Magazine, The Bad Seeds and soundtrack composer), who was touring his Mute album King of Nothing Hill, and in 2016 he contributed to former member of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' James Johnston's debut solo album, The Starless Room. Today, as Blyth, Ian White moves to the foreground for his premier self-penned recording, Confessions of a Justified Sinner. Written, arranged and performed by Ian White, recorded with Blyth mixer Giles Barrett during December 2019 and January 2020 at Soup Studios and The Silver Building, London E16, Confessions of a Justified Sinner is a propulsive and hypnotic vortex of enticing sonic attack and daring. Featuring strategic contributions from James Johnston, on guitar and additional piano, together with former Gallon Drunk bassist Jeremy Cottingham on lead and wah guitar, Confessions of a Justified Sinner is a thrilling, episodic soundscape, evoking distant echoes of experiential European bands of the past, contemporary sample driven music and elements of free jazz.

In today's episode, Film Forum presents a lively Q&A from the opening night of FIRE MUSIC, an engrossing chronicle of the free jazz movement. Joining us for the Q&A were FIRE MUSIC director Tom Surgal, executive producer Thurston Moore--best known as founder of the iconic band Sonic Youth--and legendary jazz drummer Warren Smith, who has played with a wide array of artists, including Sam Rivers, Charles Mingus, Janis Joplin, Van Morrison, Aretha Franklin, and Nat King Cole. In addition to his work in feature films, Tom Surgal is a celebrated music video director, jazz curator, and musician in his own right, serving as co-leader of the improvisational band White Out. Although the free jazz movement of the 1960s and ‘70s was much maligned in some jazz circles, its pioneers – brilliant talents like Ornette Coleman, Cecil Taylor, Sun Ra, Albert Ayler, and John Coltrane – are today acknowledged as central to the evolution of jazz as America's most innovative art form. FIRE MUSIC showcases the architects of a movement whose radical brand of improvisation pushed harmonic and rhythmic boundaries, and produced landmark albums like Coleman's Free Jazz: A Collective Inspiration and Coltrane's Ascension. A rich trove of archival footage conjures the 1960s jazz scene along with incisive reflections by critic Gary Giddins and a number of the movement's key players. FIRE MUSIC tells the exciting history behind the free jazz movement. This incredible music documentary focuses on a new form of jazz that began in the late 1950s. This new jazz was separate from the happy sounding commercial jazz music that made jazz a well known music genre all over the world. This free jazz was angrier and more emotional because the music reflected the turbulent times. The musicians behind this free jazz sound were ignored by mainstream media and as a result created their own subculture. Today free jazz has the largest audience in its 50 year plus history. FIRE MUSIC will stand as the first serious attempt to capture the sights and sounds of one of the most innovative movements in music history. Director Tom Surgal joins us for a conversation on the contentious birth and begrudging acceptance that has morphed into a celebration of the musicians who pushed the boundaries of America's greatest contribution to the world of music. (9/7/21)Although the free jazz movement of the 1960s and ‘70s was much maligned in some jazz circles, its pioneers—Ornette Coleman, Cecil Taylor, Sun Ra, Albert Ayler and John Coltrane—are now acknowledged as central to the evolution of jazz as one of America's greatest art forms. Documentarian and drummer Tom Surgal's new film Fire Music examines what free jazz was (to the music scene then) and what it is. Join us for a look at the architects of a movement whose radical brand of improvisation pushed harmonic and rhythmic boundaries way beyond the formal confines of bebop in this installment of Leonard Lopate at Large on WBAI.

. Come. What. May. . Once, a farmer yielded to God's calling to go on a mission trip to the Amazon, fearlessly bringing the Christian gospel to some of the world's most isolated and ferocious tribes living in the jungle. . This anecdote brings to mind my father's own story. Decades ago, he returned to Hong Kong alone, just to fulfil God's calling for him to start this church. A host of enemies got in the way, attempting to sabotage his efforts, but my father held on. . Until the day God calls him home, he'll keep submitting himself to His will, living up to the prayer that Jesus modelled to his disciples: His Kingdom come; His will be done. Support Burning Ambulance on Patreon Get the Burning Ambulance email newsletter Joe Chambers is a legend. He made his name in the early 1960s, playing on a string of some of the most adventurous Blue Note Records sessions of the time. He can be heard on albums like Bobby Hutcherson's Dialogue, Wayne Shorter's The All Seeing Eye, Andrew Hill's Compulsion, McCoy Tyner's Tender Moments, and many more. He also backed Archie Shepp on Fire Music, On This Night, New Thing At Newport and For Losers, and he was the drummer on Chick Corea's debut album, Tones for Joan's Bones. He maintained a long creative partnership with Hutcherson; the two men made something like 10 albums together. Chambers didn't record as a leader until the 1970s, but one of his pieces had a significant afterlife in the '90s. "Mind Rain," from Double Exposure, an album where Chambers played piano, duetting with organist Larry Young, was sampled by DJ Premier for "N.Y. State of Mind," from Nas's debut album, 1994's Illmatic. On his new album, Samba de Maracatu, Chambers reworks the piece as "New York State of Mind Rain." This is a really interesting conversation about Chambers' long career as both a musician and an educator (he taught at the New School in New York for many years, and now lives and teaches in North Carolina). Dossier AS 1937… Archie Shepp, au matin des Noirs. Hébergé par Ausha. As Martin Luther King put it in the opening address to the 1964 Berlin Jazz Festival, "When life itself offers no order and meaning, the musician creates an order and meaning from the sounds of the earth which flow through his instrument." And so, with that in mind, we continue our exploration of socially engaged jazz in search of order and meaning in the complicated phase we're living, looking at how Max Roach and Abbey Lincoln, Charles Mingus, Archie Shepp, Lou Donaldson, Oscar Brown Jr., the Pharoahs Cannonball Adderley, Ornette Coleman, Charlie Haden and Hank Jones found it in the past, how Gary Bartz continues finding it today with Maisha and how Alicia Hall Moran, Dominique Fils-Aimé, Jaimeo Brown and Uri Caine are keeping that flame alive. Detailed playlist at https://spinitron.com/RFB/pl/11033090/Mondo-Jazz (up to Ornette Coleman).
In the second part of this special dedicated to jazz and civil rights we look into music inspired by the bloody events that marked the advancement of the civil rights movement and by the victims of ongoing brutality. The playlist included tunes which incorporate the words or the cadence of Martin Luther King, are introduced by Jesse Jackson or celebrate Malcolm X, as well as songs that were played to draw attention to and support the cause. Enjoy the show! The playlist features Cannonball Adderley, Archie Shepp & Attica Blues Orchestra, Darrel Grant, John Coltrane, John Coltrane, Martin Luther King, Nina Simone, Terence Blanchard, Miles Davis and Ambrose Akinmusire. A combustible combination as René Pape singing “Wotan’s Farewell” and “Fire Music” from Die Walküre. Régine Crespin witnesses the burning of Troy in Les Troyens. Larissa Diadkova sees her mother burned at the stake in Il trovatore. The post Fire and Music appeared first on WFMT.
Music often distills the truth in ways that make it hard to ignore. The history of jazz is intertwined with the struggle for the advancement of the African-American society that birthed it. Many of its masterpieces were inspired by events that marked the civil rights movement, which, in turn, drew inspiration from them. Let's look back at the amazing body of music that has come out of the African-American struggle for social justice and equal rights, through the works of Billie Holiday, Sonny Rollins, Mahalia Jackson (pictured), Herbie Hancock and many more. The playlist also features The Mothers of Invention, John Lee Hooker, Gil Scott-Heron, Terence Blanchard, Working Week, and Marlena Shaw. Aight look, music keeps us alive and damn we got some good artists. This one was a good one. We got the fire songs / artist / playlists. Hopefully, we can do more like this one in the future. I mean the music kind of artist...not like the painters. If you sniff too much paint it gives you a headache and then get dizzy and zone out for a bit. No idea why. not that I did that, i just- have a friend that does that. So! if you are new here, hit that subscribe button and share the podcast if you enjoyed it.

Before we proceed with our latest podcast, some news. Mick will be going to the UK & France in a couple of weeks time for a month, so, this will be the only podcast for May & possible only time for one in June. Not to leave you without your dose of electronic music from us or have withdrawal symptoms, we decided to do a best of Sequences to tie you over, to be released the end of May. Because of the thousands of tracks we have from our shows, we’ve called it volume one, picked randomly and quickly. Those musicians not on there, don’t worry your time will come later. On with our latest edition again is mixed bag of genres, dark ambient from Divided By Two, Red Planet Orchestra & Inner Vision Laboratory, the ethereal atmospherics of Erik Wollo, mighty 70’s sounds of Node , sci-fi themed electro symphonic trek by Sveere Knut Johansen, with David Helping, Johan Tronestam’s melodic sequential sounds, lengthly epics of early Kosmische and Berlin Underground tones of Von Haulshoven, plus many more outstanding releases. Mark Sheeve’s 1981 ’Firebird’ which was originally on a limited edition cassette, is our blast from the past showing some early sequences led music by him. Node now takes us into three hours of some extraordinary music from the world of electronic sounds, enjoy. Danko Jones hit several new highs with 2015's Fire Music and adopted the adage of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" with their upcoming release, Wild Cat. Once again recorded with Eric Ratz and a seemingly cemented lineup, the album is a tour de force of straight-up hard rock. Danko talks about the appetite for rock in Canada vs. other markets, some Canadian bands that could carry the torch forward, and more. Fast Romantics are readying the release of American Love, their new LP, and have dropped the first single called "Why We Fight." Main songwriter and frontman Matthew Angus talks about the album's political stance, how Canadians have a unique perspective on what's happening south of the border, and more. And finally, What's the Story Publicity Services is one of our Career Booster prize partners for CBC Searchlight 2017. Company founder Beth Cavanagh joins us to talk about the newly-formed company, the makings of a good PR campaign, and more.
Today, I talk about my experience at the Metallica Music Video shoot for the track “Halo On Fire” off or their New album “Hardwired… To Self-Destruct”. My friend Michael Butler The post Metallica: Halo On Fire (Music Video Shoot) – Metal Moment Podcast 110 appeared first on Metal Moment.
We discuss the greatness of Danko Jones, the inexplicable fact that he is popular everywhere but the US and his official title of Ambassador of Kick Ass. Loose Cannon and Bakko of DecibelGeek.com discuss and debate the best tracks off of 5 of his albums including the just released Fire Music (or soon to be released depending if you live in the US). The tracks we pick are your gateway drugs. Warning: There is no coming back from this addiction.
Eighteen years. Twelve albums. Two gold records. Thirty-plus transatlantic treks. Fifteen Top 40 singles. Arena tours across 11 countries with Guns N Roses. A video trilogy starring Elijah Wood and Ralph Macchio. A feature- length documentary. An oral-history biography. Personal invites from Lemmy to join Motörhead on the road (and on water, for the 2014 Motörboat cruise). For most bands, that would amount to a hell of a career. For Toronto trio Danko Jones, it’s called “warming up." The band is fresh from the release of Fire Music, produced by Eric Ratz (Billy Talent, Monster Truck, Metric) and featuring 11 fresh tracks, and is now amidst a slew of global dates. As for Faith Healer, led by principal songwriter Jessica Jalbert, following the success of 2011’s self-released solo debut, Brother Loyola, the introspective songwriter set to work on penning another collection of inward looking dream pop played with laid back bravado. Engineered under the masterful watch of whip-smart producer—and fellow Mintie—Renny Wilson, the two bonded over their mutual affection for dreamy ‘60s garage rock and swaggering ‘70s singles while in the studio. Hinting at a slightly spacier sound, Cosmic Troubles will arrive March 31st. Finally, CM contributor Michael Saracino speaks about his new initiative, The Globe Series, which finds the musician and producer travelling to different cities around the world - from Vancouver to Sydney, New York to London - filming local songwriters and aiding in their long-distance collaborations.
