Ep 53 | The Self-Care Mindset & Why It's Critical to Your HealthMany of us feel overwhelmed and defeated by life. And we certainly don't feel like we have the time to even think about our own needs. Loving ourselves is a foreign concept for too many of us. Why can we so easily love our children, our parents, and our dogs, but we struggle to love ourselves? Yet, the most important relationship you will ever have is the one you have with yourself. Without adequate self-care, we're unable to handle the stressors that come our way when we're depleted by physical and emotional exhaustion. On the other hand, we're more resilient and capable when we feel our best both physically and emotionally. In today's fast-paced, high-demand world, it's harder to just stop, breathe, and live in the moment. With the right tools and some simple strategies, one has the power to greatly decrease the negative effects of stress and increase personal health, happiness, and wellbeing. This workshop will investigate burnout, how to prevent burnout, and happiness and wellbeing strategies to help you create work-life flow. What You'll Learn From This Episode:Why you are worthy of self-careHow to develop a self-care plan that fits in your scheduleWhy you have to start scheduling yourself firstHow self-care impacts every aspect of our lives How to be more loyal to yourself How to replace feelings of guilt with empowermentWays to implement emotional and physical self-care “We are worthy of investing in ourselves.” - Kim StrobelThe Happy Academy is open for registration! In this episode, we focus on free speech. Dr. Fish presents his thesis against the idea that free speech exists, and we discuss its details. We start with a bit of Dr. Fish's background and where his interest in free speech comes from, and also a definition of free speech. We talk about John Stuart Mill's position, and the history of the political struggle for free speech. We discuss freedom of speech in the context of academia and the media. We ask if it makes sense to distinguish speech from action, and also address the distinction between freedom of speech and freedom of inquiry. Toward the end, Dr. Fish explains why he thinks “philosophy does not matter”. -- A HUGE THANK YOU TO MY PATRONS/SUPPORTERS: KARIN LIETZCKE, ANN BLANCHETTE, PER HELGE LARSEN, LAU GUERREIRO, JERRY MULLER, HANS FREDRIK SUNDE, BERNARDO SEIXAS, HERBERT GINTIS, RUTGER VOS, RICARDO VLADIMIRO, BO WINEGARD, CRAIG HEALY, OLAF ALEX, PHILIP KURIAN, JONATHAN VISSER, ANJAN KATTA, JAKOB KLINKBY, ADAM KESSEL, MATTHEW WHITINGBIRD, ARNAUD WOLFF, TIM HOLLOSY, HENRIK AHLENIUS, JOHN CONNORS, PAULINA BARREN, FILIP FORS CONNOLLY, DAN DEMETRIOU, ROBERT WINDHAGER, RUI INACIO, ARTHUR KOH, ZOOP, MARCO NEVES, MAX BEILBY, COLIN HOLBROOK, SUSAN PINKER, THOMAS TRUMBLE, PABLO SANTURBANO, SIMON COLUMBUS, PHIL KAVANAGH, JORGE ESPINHA, CORY CLARK, MARK BLYTH, ROBERTO INGUANZO, MIKKEL STORMYR, ERIC NEURMANN, SAMUEL ANDREEFF, FRANCIS FORDE, TIAGO NUNES, BERNARD HUGUENEY, ALEXANDER DANNBAUER, OMARI HICKSON, PHYLICIA STEVENS, FERGAL CUSSEN, YEVHEN BODRENKO, HAL HERZOG, NUNO MACHADO, DON ROSS, JOÃO ALVES DA SILVA, JONATHAN LEIBRANT, JOÃO LINHARES, OZLEM BULUT, NATHAN NGUYEN, STANTON T, SAMUEL CORREA, ERIK HAINES, MARK SMITH, J.W., JOÃO EIRA, TOM HUMMEL, SARDUS FRANCE, DAVID SLOAN WILSON, YACILA DEZA-ARAUJO, IDAN SOLON, ROMAIN ROCH, DMITRY GRIGORYEV, TOM ROTH, DIEGO LONDOÑO CORREA, YANICK PUNTER, ADANER USMANI, CHARLOTTE BLEASE, MIRAN B, NICOLE BARBARO, AND ADAM HUNT! Sifting through the rubble of whatever that was at the Capitol, was 2020 just a test-run for the real bad shit? First: HOW? And was it actually a coup attempt? And was that police collusion we saw? It's speculation central over here and no one does it quite like the Left Bitches. But really: would white supremacist far-right thugs have stormed Washington in the first place if government was doing its job during the pandemic? It took a deadly terrorist insurrection and attack on Washington under Confederate flags for Twitter to ban Trump. Liberals are cheering, but what precedent does this set for Silicon Valley censoring the left? It's already happening... We make some predictions re: weaponizing Big Tech's echo chamber libertarian utopia. And what won't change on Inauguration Day? What excuses for inaction will the Democrats surprise us with this time, now that they once again control the House, the Senate and the White House? Plus: why we're comfortable with polite men with blood on their hands, but not gross men like Trump. The Left Bitches are Anissa Naouai, Erica Marable, Rania Khalek, and Amanda Getty. Produced by Gregory Haddock with music by Jonathan Hurley. Visit patreon.com/leftbitches for access to extended episodes and bonus content.

Thoughts In the first chapter of Paul’s letter to the Colossians, Paul does something that probably most of us don’t do. How often have you ever gone up to someone in your church or even just in your life and told them how thankful you were for the obvious gifts God has given them? In Colossians, Paul thanked God for the the people of the church in Colosse for their faith, for their love, and for their hope. So many times we are quick to see people’s shortcomings. We see their failures. We criticize…if not to their faces, we do it behind their backs. Beloved, that is not a good thing. There are at least two benefits to looking for God’s blessing in other people’s lives. First: How do you feel when someone sincerely tells you what a good job you’re doing? What happens? Sure. You feel good about yourself. You feel good about the other person. And you’re encouraged to keep on doing a good job, or even do better. Second: If you make a conscious decision to look for God’s blessings in other people, then your own mindset does a 180 degree turn. If you are looking for good in others, you’ll begin to see that folks aren’t so bad after all. It’s easier to love them, as we are supposed to do, when we see God’s work in them. Jesus said that the world would know we are Christians by the love we have for one another. Come on. Instead of seeing others’ shortcomings, let’s look for how God has blessed them.
Should you try embroidery? We share what you need to think about before you purchase an embroidery machine. FIRST: How often do you really get embroidery orders? If 20 to 25% of customers are asking for embroidery, it's worth the investment. SECOND: What kind of equipment will you need? Will you need a large, medium, or small machine? THIRD: How will embroidery work in your business? Will you do all of the embroidery, some of it, or none of it? How much do embroidery machines cost? Used embroidery machines cost around $15,000 for a 10-head machine. For around $2,000, you can get a great 1-or-2-head machine. Things to consider: 1. Embroidery has a steep learning curve. You have to learn the vocabulary. Reach out to manufacturers and suppliers to learn more. 2. Can you contract out embroidery? If you're already contracting out embroidery, ask to visit your local embroidery shop and see how they work. 3. Embroidery has a different file type. Digitized files explain where each stitch needs to go. This can be very difficult to learn! Did you know that the average person makes 35,000 ”remotely conscious” choices per day? If we are spending about seven hours a day sleeping and likely not making decisions (depending on the type of dreamer you are ;), that makes about 2,000 decisions per hour And it may sound like a crazy number, but according to researchers at Cornell University, we make 226.7 decisions each day on just food alone. As time goes on and life gives us more responsibilities, so does the range of choices we’re faced with.“Would it be totally stupid to quit my job in this economy?” “Should I leave my relationship?” “Is that really worth the money?” “I want to say no, but what if they’re mad when I do?”It’s easy for us to get into “analysis paralysis,” wasting so much time, energy and, let’s face it – bottles of wine – ruminating about which decision is best for us. But life is about making choices. And our brains can get really good at this – especially when we are clear about who we are and what we want – but it takes learning some skills. This episode digs into the different types of choices we can make, and how to make decisions – even hard ones.Cause life is short, and we don’t want to f*ck it up if we can avoid it.In This Episode You’ll Learn:How to move beyond “decision fatigue” and finally make a decisionWhy making choices (or don’t make them) is central to your inner confidence, sense of authenticity, and alignment with your integrityWhy it’s important to take responsibility for your choices Why developing the skills to make active decisions rather than passive ones will really benefit you in the long run...even if its a painful learning curve at firstHow to claim your own agency in your decision making – and become more resilient in living with the consequences of your choicesWhy facing your hard decisions head on will help you curb unnecessary stress, depression, procrastination and even physical illnessTools that go beyond “listening to your intuition”Why “wrong” decisions don’t make YOU wrongThe profound effect that the ongoing and continuous act of making choices – mindfully – will have on your lifeResources:// Check out my free 7-day Clarity + Courage Course course here: www.claritycouragecourse.com// For even more tips and tools on how to make hard decisions, read my blog post here: https://www.anaverzone.com/make-hard-decisions/// Want to know how to build unshakable confidence and resilience? On this episode, Stanley Fish discusses his recent book, “The First: How to Think About Hate Speech, Campus Speech, Religious Speech, Fake News, Post-Truth, and Donald Trump.”
Stanley Fish is a well-known scholar regarding the First Amendment and free speech. In his latest book, The First: How to Think About Hate Speech, Campus Speech, Religious Speech, Fake News, Post-truth, and Donald Trump (One Signal, 2019), Professor Fish discusses the popular and legal meanings of the First Amendment’s speech and religion clauses. He argues that speech is not an apolitical concept, but is in fact often invoked for political purposes. Although he favors a robust zone of free speech, he is careful to note what speech law does and should protect versus what it does not, or should not, protect. He makes distinctions between freedom of inquiry in an academic setting and the claims of absolutists regarding free speech on campuses. He is also concerned with what he considers the “poor fit” of the modern interpretation of the religion clauses (Free Exercise and Establishment Clauses) with the Constitution’s concerns with individual liberty. In addition to the Constitution, Professor Fish discusses the roles of sunshine laws, post-modern interpretations of speech, and the political speech phenomenon of Donald Trump. Ian J. Drake is an Associate Professor of Political Science and Law at Montclair State University. His scholarly interests include American legal and constitutional history and political theory. Do you want to separate your blog posts from your podcast posts on your website? It might be a bad idea. First - How to do it if you really really want to in WordPress Create a category for the podcast. DO NOT USE "podcast" as a category. Enable Category Podcasting in PowerPress Settings (at the bottom of each setting page) In the Category Podcasting menu (found under PowerPress in the sidebar) tick the box that says "Strict Categories" Save settings. Back in the category podcasting menu, Add Podcast Settings to your Category All your podcast related settings go in the category podcasting settings for that category NOT the main PowerPress settings. Once that is all set up, make a blog post. Select the category for your podcast in the right sidebar AND in the podcast episode box. The podcast episode box category setting is for the RSS feed and the sidebar is for the website. You must do BOTH. In the Appearance > menus menu, add your podcast category (not called podcast I hope) to the menu where you want it. Categorize your blog posts in a single category and add that category to the menu as well. There is one more way to do it explained in the Podcast called Post Types. I don't recommend that method. Why you do not want to do separate blog posts from your podcast posts People that want to listen to your podcast, and show up on your website, wouldn't they want to maybe read your blog posts (without clicking another menu)? Wouldn't people that read your blog want to listen to your podcast? Why go through all the BS separating them?

FROM THE MANAGEMENT: We celebrated our six month episode anniversary just the way people in normal relationships do: by totally shaking things up and getting way too personal. Which means, STRAIGHT MEN asked a FEMALE questions. This has never before happened in the history of advice-giving! First: How do I approach women? (Hint: Maybe sometimes just don't?) Next: How soon should I make that big move? And everything you ever wanted to know about sex and actually did, unfortunately, ask aloud: Is my grunting sexy? Why are you making a mess in my bed? How can I get that close to my GF? And what's with the laugh track? Love, Kate "Lana Del Rey - Video Games (Dimasan Remix)" (Dimasan) / CC BY 3.0
