You've reached the Faith First Podcast, Hello and welcome! You, like me, have many choices of how you are going to spend your time, your talents, and your resources in this world. Yet each one of those items I listed is given to us by the Lord. They really have been given as a gift and not ours to own, they are His. Our time is His and that is what we are going to dive into today as I sit down with our Lead Pastor Steve Darr to discuss and flesh out how we can be more proactive for the kingdom knowing that our time is His. In this episode you'll discover:Why do we like the status quo and what time has to do with our thinkingWhat we can do when we have busier than busy schedulesHow alignment of our lives coincides with having enough timeWhy connection must be part of the Christian's lifeHow we ought to appreciate that every moment is given to us by GodWe are stewards of everything God gives to us and that includes the gift of our time. We dishonor God when we say we don't have enough time. He has not shortened us of the time we need. When we look at our lives and see that we have become over busy we need to prioritize what we are doing so that we can remain faithful to our calling as Christians.Making connections with others may help them connect to the cross of Christ. If you've enjoyed connecting to our Faith First Podcast, we'd love to know that by becoming a subscriber and maybe reach out to a friend to share this connection with them. Until next time, remember the time given is a gift from God and use it faith first.

Welcome to the Faith First Podcast. I know each morning I get up, I have a routine of prayer, devotions and then I hit the ground running never really thinking about the time that goes by and often doesn't think about how I use my time. In the message our Lead Pastor Steve Darr reminds us that our time is His— our time is God's time.In this episode you'll discover:Why our time is truly not oursWhy thinking about our time is part of making a choice to follow JesusHow God gives us just enough timeWhy every moment belongs to GodWhy saying we don't have enough time dishonors GodAs believers, we are all on God's time. In the light of His grace where we dwell in the shadow of the cross, we are all expected to give Him our time, our talents, our time, and our treasures. It is such a wonderful thought that every moment belongs to God and that each moment of our lives is a gift to us from Him. The time we have, the work we are called to do for God needs to be taken seriously and with great reverence. He is merciful and will forgive us when we don't use our time well. Think about how you spend your moments faith first.

On a scale of 1-10, how happy do you feel about your morning time tempo?0 = I feel drained, overwhelmed, rushed. 10 = I love the pace of my morning.    I found I was at a 3. I didn't make time for myself, I felt rushed while making breakfast and I'd feel overwhelmed by the time I sat down for work. Uggh.  Something needed to change. This episode shares what I did to change my 3 / 10 to a 9 / 10 and guides you through a series of open-ended questions to help you bring more flow into your morning.  Let's get to the heart of the "Morning Overwhelms" and see what we can come up with together!(These questions can help with more than just the morning time. Honing in on a specific time - like the morning in this case - is helpful for making sustainable and realistic changes...And, well, not get overwhelmed even more.) We get into: Feeling drained and judging ourselves Self-sabotage & self-induced stress (Both of which I'm very familiar with!)The real challenges of feeling like we don't have enough timeWhy do I use open-ended questions?Open-ended questions are one of the most powerful types of life tools we can possess; Curiosity expands our view of ourselves and the world around us!Why do I share my stories?Vulnerability is a catalyst for trust and I hope by sharing my personal stories and struggles that you know you are not alone and this is a safe and supportive space for you to be your whole, awesome self.  (Even if you're not sure what your whole, awesome self looks and feels like yet.)In gratitude,Jaime Komer :)www.jaimekomer.com*I invite you to email me directly for your coaching and speaking inquiries at hello@jaimekomer.com. Does networking make your stomach turn upside-down? This is the episode for you.On this episode of End Hype, Callye shares how networking can become a force multiplier for your capabilities and your success even if interpersonal skills have never been your strength. Here's the bad news: networking can be extremely uncomfortable. In fact, attending networking events has always been tough for entrepreneurs who might not be as gregarious or outgoing as others. To make matters worse, the individuals who are attracted to these events are often there with the wrong motives and intentions. The types of people that we all want to surround ourselves with are oftentimes simply too busy to attend many of the networking events popping up in today's market. So how do we find the diamonds in the rough and make sure our networking efforts are actually having an ROI?Fortunately, there is good news: networking does not have to be so difficult or overwhelming. There are some different “hacks” you can apply if you have enough self-awareness to know that networking is not your strong-suit.At the end of the day, it boils down to knowing your strengths and weaknesses and adjusting accordingly. Listen to this show to learn the playbook! What You'll Learn:Why becoming a public speaker can be a networking hack for introvertsHow to run an event and network at the same timeWhy networking is essential to your business success, even if it makes you uncomfortable. At the end of the day, starting a business is an uncomfortable process. It's about being self aware and knowing how your efforts can be best applied. And much more!Favorite Quote:“There's such a small percentage of people in life, especially in business, that are actually adding value. If you join a mentorship group, you'll understand. If there's 100 “mentors” that SHOULD be amazing, a very small percentage will actually add value, actually do the work, and actually help people. Those people will all know each other… Get involved with those people... It's not even a ‘hack', you are just doing the right thing.”Callye KeenHow to Get Involved:Follow Callye onhttps://youtube.com/redbluecollective (YouTube)http://instagram.com/callyekeen (Instagram)https://www.facebook.com/redbluecollective (Facebook)About Callye Keen and Red Blue CollectiveThrough collaboratively developing and manufacturing 100s of products, Callye Keen saw a massive range of strategies, tactics, successes, and failures firsthand. When I have perceived an experience of micromanagement - calendar visibilityEx. (creates a shared reality vs. a perception, which assumes intention and may be incorrect - not shared reality - ex. “My boss is micromanaging me” vs. “My boss asked me to email the agenda to them before I sent it out”)What need might they be trying to meet with their action? In the case of micromanagement, the need that people are trying to meet often falls within one of these universal human needs:Competence, clarity, effectiveness, participation, understanding, stability, support, safety, autonomyMicromanagement is often a strategy that people use to meet one or more of these needsOften without realizing they are micromanagingOften without realizing they are causing harmCan intersect without other power structures - what we have learned about what it means to be a leader, a person with authority and influence, also external pressures they may not be sharing with you, and - as always - how they feel about themselves(note, none have to do with you!)Understanding the need the person is trying to meet with their actions that you are perceiving as micromanaging can help you empathize with them and prepare to have a conversation with them about itPrioritize connection before solutionNo one likes to feel like a means to an end - seek to understand and connect before requesting the changeExample: “When I hear you ask to have a full access to my work calendar and then I receive calendar invitation from you that conflicts with meetings I have previously scheduled, I feel frustrated and overwhelmed, because I need time for preparation and respect for the time I have put into scheduling my meetings. Would you be willing to take a look at my calendar before sending a calendar invitation to me?If YOU are the person micromanaging - same process!Observations - what are requests that you make of your team? What needs are you trying to meet? How might the strategies you are using to meet those needs make your team feel?Request feedback (be specific!) and be clear about why you are asking for what you are asking forBe open to new ideasA note on “right” and “wrong”It becomes more difficult to manage a conflict if we get stuck in trying to decide what is “right” and what is “wrong” (binaries/dichotomies are a quick way to silence/overlook voices - we want to center humanity and all of its complexity!)For example, working with the office door open is not more “right” than to have it closedIf we get caught up in our judgements about why someone has their door closed “they don’t like us,” “they aren’t a team player,” - different judgements that suggest they are “wrong,” it impedes connection and understandingFocus on the needs of people involved and then search for a strategy that will meet those needsMel’s Mindful Minute: 44:54Chair YogaWe Are Always StudentsHuman Connection at Work by Liv LarssonEnglish translation can read a little funky (translated from Swedish)Good application of NVC in workplace specificallyOur episode on NVC - Episode 9Sharing is Self-CaringSelf-careWhat is a request you’ve made of someone recently? Yes you learn how to adjust to ppl’s expectations quickly, but that’s no guarantee that you will be paid fairly. Also, it is the most powerless I have ever felt in a workplaceProtein - Main Event - Topic d’jourFor international audience, in USA it is expected that you provide a tip in most service industriesWaiters/bartenders in restaurantsHotels - cleaning staff/bellhop (hotel porter)/ValetsHairdressers/Nail TechniciansDelivery/Taxi/Lyft/Uber driversGenerally speaking, if tipping is encouraged/ an option in a place, it means the employees are likely not making much, if anything, from the company they work forEx. When working in a restaurant, Dan made about $2.13/hour even though the minimum wage was at $6.25 at the timeWHY??1938 New Deal - first minimum wage lawYou have the right to the minimum wage either through wages or through tips → gave employers permission to not provide a wage to workersU.S. Department of Labor reports an 84 percent violation rate in regards to employers actually ensuring that they make up that difference.Industrial revolution - white workers began migrating moving to cities to work in urban factories. Now that they were in the city, there was an increased demand for restaurant food, but needed ppl to work as servers who had less resources than them and would be willing to work in a food service job. At the time, people in those positions were primarily black, formerly enslaved peopleLink to slavery -Noblesse oblige is a French expression meaning that there is an inferred responsibility of privileged people to act with generosity and nobility toward those less privilegedSo, at its core, tipping was a practice associated with tipping inferiorsIn the U.S., that particular hierarchical thinking can most always be traced back to slaveryProblemsBefore we get in to the payment structure - important to note that because employees in a tipping model are often hourly, that almost always means they also do not receive benefits of any kind (healthcare, time off, etc).Instead of employers paying their workers, they rely on their customers to pay for both the product and the laborEssentially constantly working for many different bosses all day, every dayBecause workers are valued by multiple consumers instead of their actual employer, workers must always center the desires of consumers to even possibly make minimum wage for the day, and sometimes what consumers want is different from what their employer wants, so they are having to juggle multiple bosses and multiple demands that is never guaranteed to fairly pay them for all of that laborCustomers often demand all kinds of things to justify giving tips (and even then, they do not always tip well or at all):Entitlement to your timeDifferent needs you have to learn very quickly (customer A prefers water to be refilled constantly, customer B finds your constant refilling to be an intrusion → often this leads to trying to be as invisible as possible. Also harmful) which leads me toEmotional laborFrom personal experience, I have especially seen this when I worked in a hair salon, an expectation of processing life events in addition to the labor of cut & colorAlso in nail salonsPhysical LaborValetsEntitlement to say and demand anything they’d like“Customer is always right”Also, makes it very difficult to hold individual customers accountable for how they treat service workers, which brings us to:IsmsRacismReminder, racist origins are still relevant todayThere is still a $4 per hour wage gap between what white workers and workers of color make in the restaurant industry, and it’s because workers of color are relegated to lower level positions. In fine dining, they work as bussers and runners, instead of as a server or as bartenders. They also work in lower level segments, at places like Olive Garden instead of at places like Capital Grille. They work in places where you make less money. (source)because of the racial segregation, the people who are most impacted and impoverished by the current tipping system are people of color, and in particular women of colorSexismIn 2014, restaurant workers were polled with the question: ‘Have you experienced sexual behavior in the restaurant industry that is scary or unwanted?’ And 90 percent of workers, both male and female, said yes. (source)5x the rate of sexual harassment than all other industriesService industry has low level of entry for women, and because their income is dependent on the happiness of the customer, they are subjected to sexual harassment without consequence (see: patriarchy)Having worked in a restaurant for some years Dan has a lot to say about thisIt sets a low bar for what to expect in a workplace, both in terms of how you are treated and accountability for others who treat you that wayExperience a range of sexual harassment and there is no consequence/it’s not taken seriouslySelf-worth - a place where your employer holds you to high standards but does not pay you, and the customers who do pay you can treat you without consequence, + other employees can treat you without consequence as well is harmfulMe too So many problems! What to do?Tip wellWhen I hear someone say things like “this is going to affect their tip” they are usually someone who has not worked within that payment structureAssume positive intent. It is very hard, underpaid work. If you do not feel you are receiving the service you’d prefer, think more broadly about why that may be, vs. placing all of the responsibility on individualsBelieve people when they say they are mistreated, advocate for them in the ways that are accessible to youAwarenessSystemic action? How to Coach Yourself: Applied Mindfulness

Rebel Buddhist

As a life coach, part of my job is helping people develop the tools and skills to be able to do something really crucial to their own long term growth: coach themselves.Yes, I am here as a sounding board, a listener, a co-conspirator and a co-mastermind in helping my clients create the lives they want and deserve, (as a kick in the you-know-what if that’s what they need!) – but I cannot do the work for them.We all have to do our own groundwork to free our minds, so that we can free our lives.Self-coaching is a tool that I use on myself daily, and it’s also a model that I teach to my students in Freedom School and use regularly with my clients. In practical terms, it is a way to apply many spiritual teachings while off the cushion, or off the yoga mat.Really, self-coaching’s power is that it shows YOU how to understand your own mind. And best of all, you can use it on the fly.Today, I dig into why unlayering your mind, deliberately easing into new thought patterns and building a reflex of self-compassion in the process is essential to creating the life you want to live.I also offer up a tool us life coaches use – called The Mindfulness Model – to help you begin to break down and understand your problems (through an approach that parses out your circumstances, thoughts, feelings, actions and results) so that you can create real, tangible change in your life.It may sound kind of abstract right now, but you can start to think of The Mindfulness Model as a form of active meditation, or applied meditation – a practical way to engage mindfulness. One of the biggest mistakes people make with mindfulness of thoughts is that they think thoughts, in and of themselves, are true. They are real – but not true. Coming to understand this distinction may just be one of the most important elements of thoughtwork you ever do.So, I invite you to take this in today.:: I invite you to consider different ways of thinking about your past that actually serve you.:: I invite you to learn how to use these tools in a way that really works – for YOU.If this is your first introduction to this model – or it’s the first time you’ve ever even heard about it – you may very well be like, “Ana, what are you talking about?”I get it. It’s often unsettling because it often means you need to be willing to be wrong about your old worldview. But if you are willing to open to that, then you’re going to be willing to adopt new ways of thinking about your life and about yourself and those in your life…And this will help you create the life you were meant to live, to less suffering, to more joy, more compassion for yourself and for others, and to not wasting this one precious life on believing things that no longer serve you, on regrets and resentment and anger. It will help you free your mind, and free your life. I want to share this gift with you in this episode. In This Episode You’ll Learn:What The Mindfulness Model is and how to use the tools it offers to free your mind so that you can free your lifeAbout the components of the model (circumstances, thoughts, feelings, actions, results) and what they meanWhy any problem can be categorized into The Mindfulness Model – and how this can empower you to become a pro at working through your shit as it comes;)How to build self-compassion into your reflexes – and get rid of the negative self-criticism that isn’t serving youWhy paying attention to what is going on in your brain takes a lot of effort – and is absolutely essential for real personal growthWhat the process of ‘unlayering your mind’ looks like, in real timeWhy, when you start understanding your mind, you’ll develop the ability to change your feelings, change your actions, and change your results in your lifeHow to get to the place where thinking really positive, nurturing, nourishing thoughts comes naturally to you – and why this takes lots of practiceResources:// Click here to download a visual of the mindfulness model and a sample model form//See a visual of The Mindfulness Model at // Check out Episodes 3 and 14, on how to change the past and learning how to believe new things – both offer tools applicable to the teachings in this episode.// If you need any help with starting to use The Mindfulness Model, please go to RebelBuddhist.com and get access to the private Facebook group where you can ask me questions! Joe Carter and Kate Slavin have both always been intrigued by culture and wanted to be a part of creating something that stood the test of time. In an era of disposable stuff, the team wanted to create a product that would last for generations. They settled on cast iron skillets, which have been around since the Iron Age. Also, both their families have had grannies that cooked in them and they've seen how cookware that lasts for years has the power to create a connection through time.In 2019, they started The Ironclad Pan Company. All their cookware is 100% New Zealand made and hand-poured to order. They are also the only company in NZ that manufactures cast iron pans as it is a old school process and there are not many foundries in NZ that are willing (or have the ability) to make cookware. What's great is that their pans come with a unique guarantee that lasts a 100-years and you don't need to worry about taking care of the receipt because their guarantee is forged into the pan itself. The Ironclad Pan Company's pans are  a versatile piece of cookware  and have been endorsed by the likes of The Topp Twins, Peter Gordon and many other chefs. On our episode we talk about:Importance of creating something meaningful that stands the test of timeWhy everyone needs some cast iron cookware in their kitchenHow does a 100-year product guarantee work when you are a startupCooking and caring for your cast iron cookwareCan cookware be an heirloom you inherit?Follow The Ironclad Pan Company story on www.ironcladpan.com or on Instagram @ironcladpan

It is now well established that there are numerous health risks associated with being overweight. From increased blood pressure and type 2 diabetes to sleep apnea and osteoarthritis. Global estimates suggest that over 2 billion adults are overweight, with an estimated 650 million suffering from obesity. This number has tripled since 1976 and most of the world’s population now live in countries where obesity and overweight kills more than underweight. Despite the known health implications, the rising number of people who are overweight, and obese, demonstrates that people are not taking a proactive, preventative approach to their health. Oftentimes it is when people are faced with health challenges that they finally act.  In this episode we discuss the impact that excess weight has on back health and why losing weight quickly could be having a negative impact on the back pain experienced by some. We highlight how some weightlifters can take advantage of their weight to support the low back during exercise whilst establishing the long-term benefits of weight loss in supporting low back health. Finally, we discuss the nutritional implications of health dietary choices on overall health and on back health so that you can start to make some changes that will support your recovery.  Some of the things you’ll discover… Why weight loss could be a red flag that should be investigated to rule out sinister causes of back painHow weightlifters can take advantage of their weight to help support their lower backs during heavy liftingWhy weight loss may cause be the cause of increased back pain for some peopleWhy you need to set a foundation for exercise through good movement and core stability, not dive straight into exercise classes just to lose weightHow muscle mass in the lower back can be replaced by fat in those that have been sedentary for long periods of timeWhy nutritional choices can lead to chronic, low-grade inflammation which reduces the effectiveness of the immune system to support injury or illnessWhy consuming enough protein should be an important consideration during your rehabilitation HighlightsLosing weight quickly could be detrimental to the back health of some people. Whilst in some cases this is the result of reduced stability in the short term, most often it is the result of making the wrong choices regarding the exercise they undertake. Far too often people want to see quick results and so dive straight into aerobic classes, body pump classes, or other high intensity workouts without having established healthy movement patterns, or core strength, first. As a result, they don’t have the back stability to support their bodies during these new fitness endeavors and they compound the underlying injury. Frustratingly this can lead many to give up which is a disappointing outcome. In those people carrying excess weight, losing a few pounds will undoubtedly have a positive impact on back health if the exercise choices are the right ones. Choosing the right exercises and committing to them over the long term will result in improvements. In conjunction with a healthier diet this will allow effective, and sustainable, results. For more episodes of the Back Pain Solutions podcast visit: www.smartstrong.co.uk Don’t forget to subscribe so you can receive updates on new episodes and direct links to additional content. If you’re suffering from back pain, want to improve your posture, or want to build resilience to future injury then you’re in the right place. 71 and Teaching Yoga: To celebrate Mother's Day and share a story that has already inspired 8,000+ people on LinkedIn, I decided to invite my amazing Mum, Sandra Reed, onto the Human First podcast couch. Since COVID-19 hit I have been committed to sharing stories that uplift and encourage a little more joy into our days. This week is no exception. At age 60 my mum (who had been a farmer) decided to reinvent herself and become a yoga teacher. She went on to start a small business that provided yoga to those in her community who were aged over 60 and wanted to keep moving. Mum and her students love what she's created which is why she's still going at 71. That's right, a 71-year-old yoga teacher! When COVID-19 hit, the classes stopped, meaning Mum's students would miss their weekly exercise highlight... that was until my brother and I taught Mum how to use Zoom. Mum started experimenting, purchased a Bluetooth microphone and last week ran her first online yoga classes. I was so proud to join and support her as I knew it would feel a little weird and perhaps challenging the first couple of times. Mum is far from tech savvy but she is intentionally adaptable, and that skill has ensured that she and her students can continue to have their yoga joy in lockdown. This Week We Discuss:How change, in bite-size pieces builds the courage and confidence to step into bigger change over timeWhy being true to who you are is so much more fulfilling than being normal or trying to please othersHow a mindset change can open up possibilities you never imagined and help others at the same timeWhere To Find Sandra:If you'd like to find out more about Sandra's online yoga classes for someone over 60, please reach out to Penny via email. The great news is that all of my bills were paid. I had more free time to plan and review my business. I’m redesigning my website and improving a few workflows. I have more clarity on my overall goals for this year and I feel overall optimistic about the year. I’m even expanding my offerings for beauty & wellness product based businesses which will roll out in the Spring. However, I did find myself feeling like I had too much free time. It’s led me through a rabbit hole of thought & contemplation. This episode is just my thoughts and my review of January. I’ll be planning to do a review of each month this year to just track my growth & share with you guys. As always I’d love to hear your thoughts.During this episode I’m sharing:Why I felt like I have too much free timeWhy my financial health supersedes my revenue goals this yearWhy I just cannot & will not launch a course this year (or ever)

Today in the guest chair we are exploring a topic that is near and dear to my heart: legacy wealth building in the African-American community. Have you heard the term, coercive control? You may not have as it's just slowly coming to awareness. And, it is SO important that it does! Coercive control is life-sucking! That's why I've chosen to give you an understanding of the many aspects of coercive control in today's episode. Evan Stark, PhD, coined the term"coercive control" and he defines it this way,"...an ongoing pattern of domination by which male abusive partners primarily interweave repeated physical and sexual violence with intimidation, sexual degradation, isolation, and control."Does any of that sound like something that has happened to you? He writes about men because he says that coercive control is a 'gendered' issue, He writes about this in his paper, Re-Presenting Battered Women: Coercive Control and the Defense of Liberty. He says,"The primary outcome of coercive control is a condition of entrapment that can be hostage-like in the harms it inflicts on dignity, liberty, autonomy, and personhood as well as to physical and psychological integrity."Does this sound familiar in any way to you? Real Estate Investing With Jay Conner, The Private Money Authority

Mark Podolsky, The Land Geek Part TwoWatch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/xWCRbpV971Q Armed with only $3,000, gut-wrenching fear, and absolutely no real estate experience… Mark Podolsky bought his first few parcels of raw land in 2001.Today Mark Podolsky is the author of Dirt Rich, the ultimate guide to helping you build a passive income. and owner of Frontier Properties, a very reputable and successful land investing company, and has been buying and selling land full time since 2001. By focusing on working smart, not hard, he has completed over 5,000 land deals with an average ROI of over 300% on cash flips, and over 1,000% on the deals he sells with financing terms.Prior to his land investing success, Mark had a high-stress, soulless corporate job, and felt trapped in a state of solo-economic-dependency (i.e. his income stopped as soon as he stopped working). Escaping solo-economic dependency changed Mark's life in so many positive ways that he decided to teach, coach and mentor others to help them achieve their financial goals.Even though Mark invests a lot of his time helping others, he stays actively involved in running his land investing business, and is dedicated to teaching the most current and relevant “real world” land investing methods to his students.https://www.thelandgeek.com/category/podcasts/Discover Real Estate Investing Without Tenants, Toilets, and Termites! “Most people base success on how much money someone is making. Based on that I was successful but felt horrible, and I knew something had to change.” This episode’s guest got his first taste of entrepreneurship in middle school when he started selling candy out of his locker. By the time he was 24, Joshua Lee was running 16 companies and generating a couple million dollars a month. To the outside world, he’d made it. He had more money than he knew what to do with. He was living a luxury life with his wife and two kids and he was surrounded by friends in similar positions. But inside, he felt horrible and miserable. His relationships had become transactional and his identity and self-esteem was driven by the figure in his bank account. Worse than that, Josh didn’t feel as though he knew himself. His in-laws didn’t feel comfortable when he talked about his business success meaning there was this whole side to Josh that was buried and unexpressed to people outside his business circles. Eventually Josh hit rock bottom. He knew he needed to restart his life and change his direction entirely. He realized he could always make more money, but he could never make more time so he divorced his wife, liquidated everything he owned, and found himself back in his parents’ home with just a few $000 in his account. Age 36, Joshua once again had a blank canvas to play with - time to rebuild his life from scratch. “You can’t change the people around you but you can change yourself and that will in turn either draw or push away the good and bad people that you need in your life.” Josh is an incredible example that you can build it all again - even if you’ve lost everything you worked so hard for. After escaping rock bottom and working through the depression his old life had created, Josh now helps other entrepreneurs be more human online. He refuses to live with the spilt personalities so many entrepreneurs adopt, and instead is passionate about being himself all the time. Joshua is fueled by a mission to make the world a better place for his kids. Author of Balance in Bullsh*t, Joshua fulfils this purpose by helping other entrepreneurs scale themselves with their company so they do not scale themselves out of their company. So if you feel that you can’t be yourself and you’d like to be inspired by a man who’s reinvented himself into a happier life, tune into the episode now. It’s a doozy! Tune into this episode to discover: The dangers of making millions and why money doesn’t guarantee happinessThe pain of divorce and why staying together for the kids isn’t always best for the kidsThe time-fueled insight that gave Joshua the strength to start overHow money made Joshua realize who his friends really wereThe problems entrepreneurs face when they try to live split personalitiesThe power of failure and how it helps you succeedWhy you must be yourself all the timeWhy work-life balance is bullsh*t and what to do instead“The biggest thing that I’ve realised that’s helped me is that I can’t do it alone.” How to contact Discover more about Joshua’s work at http://standoutauthority.comFollow Joshua on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/joshuablee/We thrive on your feedback, so if you’ve enjoyed this show, please rate us and leave us a review. Do you need to unclutter your life? Are you bogged down by too much stuff? Are you spending money on things you just don't need?Well then, let me tell you that if you choose to unclutter your life you will actually feel lighter, more joyful and more personally and financially free.In an earlier podcast I covered off on the Art of Minimalism and all it's benefits.I practiced this for seven years when I lived out of my suitcase and those were some of the most freeing years of my life.I had a rule. If I bought something new - an item of clothing or a toiletry item for example, then something had to be taken out to accommodate it.That thing that I was 'releasing' would be donated, sold or given away to a friend I was visiting, and if they didn't want it, I asked them to give it to someone who needed it most. The result was I rarely bought anything I didn't truly need, value or love. It was such a good feeling. And those are still my three criteria now we have a gorgeous property and large house, that we could easily 'overfill' with too much stuff.I also have three questions that I like to ask myself for any new purchases:Where would this live? What am I going to do with it?What is it replacing? In this podcast I go into more detail about how those questions immediately help you to make better decisions. I also cover off on:How to unclutter your house, one room at a timeWhy buying new things may be covering up a deeper unmet needHow these three questions can help you before you even buy something newResources to help you Unclutter:Read: Oprah - 10 Ways to Declutter Your LifeTake Uncluttered - A 12 week course and community, Uncluttered is designed to open up space in your life for the things, activities, and people that are most important to you. “Your body is a network, when that network is disturbed it might not be able to tell exactly which node in the network is gonna go first. But I can definitely tell you that you’re at risk of breaking your network much more than somebody who is letting it line up nicely.” Right before presenting on sleep genetics at the 2017 Quantified Self Conference in Amsterdam, I met Dr. Benjamin Smarr. We exchanged words and Dr. Smarr mentioned he studied sleep at the University of California at Berkeley. It was a bit nerve wracking to have a circadian biologist in the front row. Dr. Benjamin Smarr studies the temporal structures that biological systems make as they move through time. An NIH research fellow at UC Berkeley, his work focuses on understanding how physiological dynamics like sleep, circadian rhythms, and ovulatory cycles are shaped by the brain, and how disturbances to those cycles give rise to disease. Dr. Smarr is also an advocate for scientific outreach, and routinely gives public lectures and visits K-12 classrooms to help promote the idea that by understanding the biology that guides us, we can live more empowered lives. Key Highlights:How to answer the question "what is sleep?"Rethinking sleep as an investment, rather than a waste of timeWhy circadian rhythms are important? The danger of letting your body fall out of rhythmHow sleep deprivation ties into our circadian rhythmsThe reasons why jet lag is so painfulHow genetics plays a role in your chronotypeDr. Smarr’s top recommendations for improving your sleep (hint: stop reading/watching the news so late)If you enjoyed this podcast, can you do us a favor?
