Londinium 91 AD: Corruption and the Imperial Slip. Gaius and Germanicus shift attention to Washington, observing that wealth has grown more powerful than government in the U.S., similar to Rome's path into empire. Evidence includes Washington insiders like Rudy Giuliani and Hunter Biden allegedly operating on payrolls of corrupt foreign interests such as the Democratic Republic of Congo. Republicans typically avoid registering foreign work under the Foreign Agents Registration Act by using cutouts or undocumented money, while Democrats use think tanks during interregnums, making the process so transparent it suggests everybody's in on the game. Insiders are even willing to work for adversaries like sanctioned Russian arms makers or the Taliban under the justification of private diplomacy. Germanicusanalyzes this decline through three vantages: the Gilded Age, where corporations owned government but lacked today's foreign entanglement; foreign penetration, where adversaries and allies like Israel, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia have enormous leverage; and irreconcilable ideological conflict, where corruption fuels severe ideological struggle tearing away the rule of law. They conclude that the transition into an emperor system is subtle and happens without notice, weakening the system when corruption damages trust. SULLA

Plus, China has a glut of EVs, and that oversupply is starting to spill over into the rest of the world.

The future of AI may be decided in backyards. Data Centers—the sprawling facilities designed to support the massive computing required to train and run AI models—are being built across the country. One estimate sees more than $1 trillion dollars in capital spending on data centers in the next four years. And they use electricity—a lot of it. While data centers can bring construction jobs,  tax revenue, and economic development to their communities, they also bring complaints about power and water usage, noise pollution, and architectural blight.Debates are raging from town halls to the halls of Congress. Yes, politicians want the US to lead the world in AI, but elected officials, particularly local ones, are hearing from constituents concerned about data centers, including the potential to raise electric bills. The decisions being made right now in places like Northern Virginia, Umatilla, Oregon, and Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, will determine whether AI infrastructure is scaled quickly, or whether a backlash slows it down. If done right, data centers can bring world-class tech capabilities, lower electricity prices, energy abundance, and local tax revenue. Done poorly, we see working class Americans paying more for power, the electric grid struggling, and the potential for the American public to turn sour on data canters en masse. So what do people need to know about data centers to make informed decisions? What really is the impact of data centers on water and electricity? What should policymakers in Washington do, if anything, about these debates? And are there ways to balance legitimate local concerns without hamstringing a strategic imperative?Evan is joined by Asad Ramzanali, Director of Artificial Intelligence & Technology Policy at the Vanderbilt Policy Accelerator. He was previously Chief of Staff at the White House Office of Science and Tech Policy under President Biden and Legislative Director to former Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA). In the majority ruling, the Eleventh Circuit denied Wild's petition for a writ of mandamus, holding that the Crime Victims' Rights Act of 2004 (“CVRA”) does not permit a crime-victim to initiate a freestanding civil lawsuit seeking judicial enforcement of her CVRA rights when no criminal prosecution has been formally commenced against the defendant. The court reasoned that the statute's wording in § 3771(b)(1) ties a court's obligation to “ensure” victims' rights to “any court proceeding involving an offense against a crime victim,” and thus the rights trigger only once a “preexisting proceeding” exists. Because in this matter the federal government never filed charges or otherwise commenced criminal proceedings against Jeffrey Epstein in the relevant jurisdiction and context, the court held the CVRA simply was not triggered and Wild could not enforce her rights via stand-alone litigation. In his dissent, Judge Hull strongly disagreed, arguing that the plain language of §§ 3771(a)(5) and (a)(8) grants victims a “reasonable right to confer with the attorney for the Government” and a “right to be treated with fairness,” and that § 3771(d)(3) explicitly authorizes a motion for relief “if no prosecution is underway”—which, in his view, means the CVRA does create a judicial enforcement mechanism even pre-charge. Hull asserted the majority's interpretation imposes a judicially created requirement—i.e., that an indictment or formal prosecution must be pending—when no such prerequisite appears in the statute's text. He warned that the decision unduly favors wealthy defendants and government actors who avoid formal charges, leaving victims of pre-charge misconduct with no remedy. He would have held that Wild's rights attached pre-charge, were violated, and that she is entitled to seek judicial enforcement.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com

The Democrats who voted to reopen the government earlier this week have stirred up turmoil within their party, with many on the left viewing it as a betrayal for failing to extend COVID era Affordable Care Act subsidies. Republicans, meanwhile, are up in arms over a last-minute inclusion to the funding package, which would allow senators who allegedly had their phones tapped to sue the federal government for hundreds of thousands of dollars. FOX News Digital Congressional Correspondent Liz Elkind joins the Rundown to unpack the drama on Capitol Hill, and what to look out for as the government gets back to business. Later, Philip Diehl joins to discuss the future of the penny, after the mint officially ceased its production earlier this week. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Why do so many people feel like they have to shrink at work? Why do smart, capable leaders still battle self-doubt, burnout, and the pressure to hide who they really are? And what would happen if you finally showed up as your full self—without fear, without armor, and without apology? In this powerful episode, we sit down with Claude Silver, the world's first Chief Heart Officer at VaynerX and a global voice for heart-centered leadership. Claude is on a mission to transform workplace culture and redefine what true leadership looks like. She partners with Gary Vaynerchuk to drive Vayner's people-first success, has earned Campaign US's Female Frontier Award and AdWeek's Changing the Game Award, and speaks to teams at Meta, Google, U.S. Government agencies, the Armed Forces, and audiences worldwide. Featured in The New York Times, Fast Company, Forbes, and The Wall Street Journal, she is also the author of Be Yourself at Work, a guide to replacing fear and conformity with authenticity and emotional courage.Through her lived wisdom and candid storytelling, Claude shows how embracing your humanity is not a liability—it's a leadership advantage. Get ready to rethink how you work, lead, connect, and show up every day.Quotes:"You are the CEO of your life. You are not here to live someone else's life or fit a mold—they don't want you to.""Empathy isn't me putting myself in your shoes; it's riding shotgun with you and asking, 'How can I support you?'""Consistency is the key. Showing up the same way, pretty much every day, is my greatest strength."Actionable Takeaways:Reflect on your authenticity: Ask yourself, “What is it costing me to not show up as my full self at work?” Identify one way you can bring more of your true self into your professional life this week.Practice intentional empathy: Reach out to a colleague or loved one, and instead of trying to solve their issue, simply ask, “How can I support you?” Focus on listening and understanding their unique experience.Set and communicate healthy boundaries: Define your start and end times for work, and communicate them clearly to empower yourself and model boundaries for others.Commit to self-awareness: Regularly journal or check in with yourself to recognize personal triggers and areas for growth. Consider identifying one habit or reaction you want to work on.Conclusion:Claude's message is a powerful reminder that the most impactful leaders aren't the ones who hide behind titles or toughness—they're the ones who lead with honesty, empathy, and heart. When you stop shrinking and start showing up as your true self, you create space for others to do the same. This episode challenges you to rethink how you lead, how you work, and who you're becoming. Your voice, your story, and your humanity are your greatest strengths—so bring them forward boldly.
