About Vanessa Koppel: Vanessa Koppel grew up in a small town in Amelia Island Florida, went to NYU and lived in NYC for 10 years. She worked professionally as a performer and a real estate agent for 7 years in NYC, and then worked as a sales executive at Hilton in midtown Manhattan for the past 3 years. In the past year, she has been back and forth from NYC to FL, working virtually and building her real estate business, Creative Properties Group, under the guidance of Smart Real Estate Coach. She is 30 years old and has a family she adores – her mom, dad and brother have been her strength and courage. She is a certified yoga instructor, has a recently adopted pup named Daphne, and has a hunger for travel and education. It has been a dream to own and operate her own real estate investing business and is so excited for what the future holds. About Jeff Redmond: Jeff Redmond is from middle America and is proud to work at Walmart. Early on, he became disillusioned and spent his young adulthood discovering how to take that energy and create something productive from it. Now approaching age 40, the real estate arena has presented itself and only now has Jeff applied his accumulated knowledge toward a passion that was always dormant. This is the culmination of training, passion, and focus, and Jeff is here to punch through and make a statement in the real estate investing space. He is counting the days before he can quit his union job and truly go all in! What you'll learn about in this episode: How Jeff got started with the Smart Real Estate Community and became an associate first through the 90 Day Jump Start program, and what that experience was like How Jeff joined the 90 Day Jump Start program in spite of having no disposable money at the time, and why his dedication and creativity became huge assets for his success Why Vanessa got started in real estate as an opportunity to create something she can own, even though she loves her executive career Why the biggest appealing factor of the Wicked Smart community for Vanessa is the shared experience of connecting with people who are “climbing the same mountain” together What invaluable skills, knowledge and support Vanessa and Jeff have been able to gain from the community Why Jeff and Vanessa chose to buy properties in remote markets, and how familiarity with those markets in spite of living elsewhere helped both develop confidence How Vanessa's skills and confidence have grown over the course of the last 13 months that she has been involved in real estate investing How Jeff's first 12 months in the community have given him a brand new perspective and created confidence and financial security and a sense of freedom for him How Jeff and Vanessa became an investing team, and what shift they've experienced since joined the High Six Associate level together What kinds of wins Vanessa and Jeff have experienced in their partnership, and how each works to support the other Additional resources: Follow Chris and Zach on Club House to learn even more about deal structures and how to get 3 paydays from your real estate investments. Going behind the spotlight to meet Vanessa Bruce, co-founder + CEO of Dough. Vanessa is an award-winning, patent holding, founder, operator, and designer passionate about transparent commerce, driving change with our purchase power, and financial independence. Dough was founded when Vanessa and co-founder Anna caught up over coffee and chatted about the struggles of being a female-founder. The conversation quickly led to late-night texts sharing articles on the capital gap (can you believe women receive only 2.7% of investment dollars?), the pink tax (did you hear women get charged on average 7% more products like razors?), and spending power (wait, we as women control 80% of consumer-driven purchases?). The duo thought, "What if we could direct spending dollars back to women-owned companies to create economic equity?"   Beth and Vanessa discuss: How her family inspired her to create her own path Conscious consumerism Creating Dough Transparency and some of Dough’s other company values How Vanessa balances family and business How Dough really embodies collaboration and community over competition What’s to come for the brand And more!   Vanessa’s work has been featured in Fortune, Bustle, and the New York Times as well as recognized by the Stevie Awards, Adobe Creative Jams and W3 – just to name a few. She believes in building a more inclusive, compassionate, and equitable community and volunteers as a mentor at Hack.Diversity as well as advises early stage DTC founders. Vanessa Peck has worked as a nurse for more than 12 years. One day during a regular ED shift, a mom and her 17 year old son came in. The son had behavioral issues and was quite agitated. The ED attending ordered medications to calm him down, but the mother asked to give her son his cannabis treatment. Vanessa didn't think much of it till she came back and the boy who has severely agitated 20 minutes prior was watching TV in bed and laughing with his mother. This incredible transformation led Vanessa on a search for what cannabis and CBD could do. Vanessa got trained as a cannabis consultant and began exploring how cannabis can help kids with autism, behavior issues, fears, PANDAS, treatment resistant epilepsy, ADHD, anxieties and depression. Her research has uncovered astounding findings that she now uses to help parents make informed decisions about incorporating cannabis into a child's treatment regimen. Vanessa is a psychologist who has worked as a consultant for corporate clients since 20 years. Her business was very successful offline, and even though she didn't have a large number of clients, the client base she had was loyal to her.  However, when COVID19 hit the businesses of these clients, Vanessa's own business came to a grinding halt. Unable to afford her services anymore, they cancelled their appointments with Vanessa.  Back in March, she was actually happy to have some time off to spend with her daughter. She enjoyed not having to follow up with all the obligations she usually had. But after a few weeks, Vanessa realised that this wasn't just a short vacation - she wasn't able to go back to her normal at all.  2020 was supposed to be her biggest year financially, but that goal seemed impossible to reach now the Corona crisis was here. The shock of it made her feel depressed and fall into self-pity.  But Vanessa remembered an experiment she did when she was a psychologist student at university, involving a rat and a maze that reflected the complexity of everyday life for a human being. The result was that the rat became motivated to keep looking for food, even when the maze changed and it didn't find the food at its usual place.  Vanessa realised that much like the rat, she wasn't supposed to expect her business to take off again where she left it, but had to explore new ways. Vanessa Velez is the founder of Clarity is Crucial, where she helps brilliant women elevate into the person their purpose needs them to be. She's a 4th generation healer and intuitive, with a Fortune 500 background and indigenous roots. Before taking the entrepreneurial leap, she led a corporate career in a male-dominated industry as a leader, trainer and professional problem solver – a path that would be forever altered the day she resigned and dove all in to her purpose. Since then, she's worked with women from San Diego to Sweden – in person and online, hosted group workshops and events, taught live online and on stage, created her own products, programs and the Clarity is Crucial podcast – all with one clear aim… To help brilliant women lead and be the person their purpose needs. Here's what we covered on the episode: How Vanessa has been on the podcast before and how we are both in a mentorship program with Erika Lyremark The reason why Vanessa is here to have a conversation about how to show up as a conscious leader when it comes to design  How people are craving more authentic leaders in 2020 which means making sure things are ethical, inclusive and making sure you're standing up for social justice in your business  Being a conscious leader to Vanessa is someone who does the inner work, has mastered their mindset and is able to manage their emotions, so they don't lead from that, but lead from a more conscious place Vanessa shares that it takes courage to talk about these topics that others don't want to discuss   How you need to lead yourself internally and then be true to who you are and bring that out into the world   One tip Vanessa shares to make that transition in your business is to take small steps each day  Vanessa explains why you need to get clear on what you value and what causes you think are important  Why Vanessa believes you should trust what lights you up because leaders are needed in all spaces  Vanessa talks about how leadership is a skillset that we were not taught so we must be intentional about doing the work ourselves so we can model that in all spaces Vanessa shares that you should always lead with what's true and make sure you are true to who you are when applying conscious leadership within your marketing materials  The reason why some people are hesitant on how to move forward is because they haven't acknowledged that they are in a transitions themselves  When you're transitioning, Vanessa shares that you have to reflect and re-evaluate what you stand for and what's important to you now because it might have changed  Vanessa explains that you should take what's important to you and brainstorm ways that feel good to you in embodying that, whether that's writing content about it or sharing someone else's content about it  One important thing you should think about is how you would want the message or information delivered to you and deliver it that way to your audience  Vanessa shares that one way to make sure you're taking baby steps everyday is to ask yourself daily if you did something that helped you align with what you value today  Why we need to learn to have difficult conversations, especially now that the whole world is having them  One step Vanessa took was sharing an important PSA on her podcast that was strong and had been on her heart  How that vulnerable podcast Vanessa shared is the most played episode of the season and it inspired other people to start showing up and speaking out about these issues  Vanessa believes that there is someone out there waiting for you to take that step and believes we all have a responsibility to be on the conscious side of all this  Vanessa explains that fear will not go away because fear is what causes people to take action sometimes, the important thing is that we don't get stuck there and allow fear to dictate our actions  You have to get to a state of courage so you build that confidence to take baby steps into bigger steps  Vanessa teaches the mindset of having goals that help you grow is very important  Vanessa shares a story from her childhood that explains why having goals that help you grow is important and is something she had to learn along the way  How if you don't allow yourself to make mistakes and grow, you're actually limiting yourself Vanessa explains that anticipating how you will handle mistakes takes away the anxiety because now you have a plan for them  Why you should differentiate between criticism that is valid and criticism that is not so you can see if there's something that is can help you move forward, better, smarter and stronger  Connect with Vanessa through her website, Instagram or her podcast  Links mentioned Clarity is Crucial Website    Connect with Vanessa on Instagram    Clarity is Crucial Podcast   Important PSA Podcast Like what you heard?  Click here to subscribe + leave a review on iTunes. What if you were able to shed your perfectionistic tendencies so that you could create something BIG in the service of doing GOOD? That's what our amazing guest, Vanessa Foerster, did less than a month ago when she created the Diversify Triathlon Movement. Janine and Shannon were thrilled to talk with her about the movement and how she had to let go of perfectionism in order to create it. Discussion topics include: • Introducing our guest Vanessa Foerster, a life coach for driven triathletes who helps triathletes qualify for the Iron Man World Championships (aka Kona). She is currently helping beginner BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) athletes make their way into the triathlon world, through the Diversify Triathlon Movement • How creating the Diversify Triathlon Movement was the perfect practice for Vanessa to throw perfectionism out the window • Vanessa’s history with perfectionism and how it would paralyze her • How Vanessa was able to move forward when with her idea of trying to diversify triathlons so more BIPOC athletes could get involved. • Deciding to become a leader in this movement when no other leader emerged. • The two deals Vanessa made with herself: (1) Be willing to mess it up and (2) Keep it simple • The Diversify Triathlon Movement: BIPOC athletes who have an interest in triathlons are paired with triathlon coaches who are providing three months of triathlon coaching to knock down the barriers to getting started in the sport. • The art of the triathlon (and the trial and error involved) • How perfectionism can get in the way of a successful triathlon • The support that the movement has received from companies within every realm of the sport • The value of letting go of specific outcomes • How Vanessa’s guiding principles helped her put some constraints on the program when it became popular very quickly • Trusting your feelings to help make decisions—and sticking to your guns • The serendipitous confluence of Vanessa and GTGE’s message: (1) Getting clear on your why and (2) Let it be easy • How “good enough” has infiltrated other aspects of Vanessa’s life and work • Vanessa’s hopes for the Diversify Triathlon Movement Learn more about the Diversify Triathlon Movement at www.diversifytriathlonmovement.com. How her business really took off when she was no longer limited by geography. Getting your work published in magazines can really set your interior design career on a steep trajectory. But how do you do it? And what work do you need to put in before submitting? Designer and recent cover girl Vanessa Helmick has you covered. Vanessa Helmick is the owner and principal designer of Fiore Interiors in Portland, Maine. She was born and raised in California, but moved to the Northeast 10 years ago where she has established her firm as one of the best in the region. Her work has been featured in numerous magazines, and was recently on the cover of Maine Home + Design. What You’ll Hear On This Episode of Wingnut Social [2:15] A great story about Vanessa [5:53] A big slo-mo hug for Vanessa [8:03] A little about Vanessa [9:36] How Vanessa has been featured in magazines [16:03] Vanessa’s magazine debut [18:30] Can you put a project on your website if it’s going in a magazine? Connect with Vanessa Helmick Fiore Interiors Fiore Interiors on Instagram Resources & People Mentioned Maine Home and Design Tyler Karu Overcoming Underearning Goodbye pay-to-play Vanessa has had such great success getting features in various publications, most recently in Maine Home + Design, landing the cover. And one of the things she says that has helped her is the fact that design magazines are beginning to transition away from pay-to-play, which means the playing field is levelling. But one of the key reasons she was able to get on the cover is because she had top-notch photos at the ready. She paid a lot of money to a photographer on a day rate, and got amazing photos of recent projects. And so when it was time to submit to Maine Home + Design’s design issue, she had the photos ready to send. And, it turned out, it wasn’t even the big, major project they selected. So it goes to show that if you want to land in a magazine, you have to have great shots of a diversity of projects. You have to be just as choosy as a magazine Vanessa told Darla and Natalie a really illuminating story about one of her first features in a magazine. It did not go as well as she had hoped, because the magazine sent a portrait photographer who didn’t have much experience with shooting interiors, and the photos didn’t come out that great and didn’t show her work in the best light. And so then when the magazine asked her again, she declined. Declining to be covered by the magazine got the editor’s attention, and Vanessa explained that the last time they featured her the photos were unflattering to her work. So they then sent her an amazing photographer and she’s eagerly awaiting the release of that feature. And what’s interesting about that is that she picked a project from five years ago. So don’t just think about what you’ve done in the past few months. Think about your entire portfolio when it’s time to submit work to a publication. This week, on the PRmoment Podcast, I’m interviewing Vanessa Pine, co-founder of Atlas Partners. What I love about Vanessa’s career is that it’s real! Atlas was founded in 2015.Here is a summary of what Vanessa and I discussed: Vanessa tells us what it was like to work on the Lib Dem campaign in the 2010 general election when “I agree with Nick” briefly became one of the nation's favourite phrases How the TV debates changed the dynamic of UK election campaigns Why the Lib Dems went to 40% in the polls for a brief period How a very small Lib Dem general election team were almost over-run by the momentum of the 2010 Lib Dem campaign Why Vanessa left the UK public affairs scene to go to Australia when the Lib Dems went into coalition government – at precisely the point when she was most valuable from a UK-career perspective What the differences are between the UK PR scene and the Australian PR scene Why UK PR people are highly prized in Australia How Vanessa ended up working on the “Australian Year of the Farmer” campaign How Vanessa coped with being made redundant from her job in Australia – with the risk of her being deported Why the uncertainty is the worst part of being made redundant How Vanessa became PR manager in Australia for Coca Cola – a job she doesn’t think she would have had in the UK Why recruitment in public relations has become such a conservative process of risk management What does a political special advisor (SpAds) actually do? Why the SpAds role is a blend of media and policy How politics is the art of the possible – it’s not an ideological exercise The role SpAds play in the presentation and politics of policy How SpAds coordinate with civil servants How Vanessa’s previous career influenced the positioning of Atlas Partners Why minority partners in coalitions “get slammed every single time” in elections Why Vanessa launched Atlas Partners The virtuous circle of running a consultancy business: Why happy staff mean happy clients Why it took Vanessa 10 years to gain the confidence to launch her own business How the overlap between media and politics is creating opportunities for firms like Atlas Partners
