Listen to our new ShortHand episode now: 'ShortHand: Lucy Letby – What Netflix Left Out'. --An independent panel of experts has concluded that NO murders took place at the Countess of Chester hospital. If true, it would mean that Lucy Letby, currently serving 15 life sentences and branded the UK's most prolific child serial killer, is innocent – and the subject of the worst miscarriage of justice in recent British memory. We go over what was covered at last week's press conference – and whether it changed our minds on this complex case. Two time Olympian Elise Cranny returns to the podcast for one of the most natural, easy conversations I have had in a long time. Elise shares why she recently made a major training change, joining M11 Track Club and spending much of the year in South Africa and the UK. We talk about craving training partners again, getting back into a beginner mindset, and why she wants to pay closer attention to the 1500 this season while keeping the 5000 in the bigger picture. Elise reflects on the mental side of championship racing, developing an alter ego on the track, and what she learned during the 2024 Olympic cycle working one on one with coach Jarred Cornfield. We dig into overtraining, identity as an athlete, and how zooming out and setting process based goals helped her find a healthier balance. She also shares what cross training looks like now (swimming three days a week), why breaking two minutes in the 800 still matters to her, and how she thinks about “racing where you are” on the world stage. This is such a fun conversation, enjoy! Topics we cover Returning to the show as a two time Olympian Joining M11 and what pushed her to make a big change Training partners, discomfort, and renewed excitement Shifting focus toward the 1500 and what it can unlock for her racing The 2024 Trials double and why joy mattered in that build Overtraining, burnout, and stepping away from a group environment Confidence, an on track alter ego, and showing up locked in Cross training and swimming as part of her weekly routine Race strategy, mental skills, and setting A/B/C goals Big picture career thinking: no regrets, curiosity, and leaving no stone unturned Life outside sport: working on her MPH at George Washington University Books mentioned Anxious People by Fredrik Backman When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi Support Our Sponsors: Noogs: Noogs Nutrition is my go-to for fun, flavorful fuel with carbs and electrolytes, with flavors like Lemon Zinger, Electric Watermelon, and Blue Raspberry, plus caffeinated options too. A jealous break up. A calculated acid attack. A death that didn't happen in court. In 2015, Mark van Dongen was left blind, paralyzed, and in constant pain after his former partner attacked him with sulphuric acid while he slept. Sixteen months later he died by legal assisted suicide in Belgium, a decision that would shock the UK and complicate the case against his attacker. After concerns that honey from overseas is being watered down with cheap rice and corn syrups, Sheila Dillon investigates the scale of global honey fraud. It's a story of complex international supply chains with the world's food security at its heart. In 2023, the European Commission found that 46 per cent of the honey it sampled was suspected to be fraudulent. Just last year at the World Beekeeping Awards the prize for Best Honey had to be cancelled after fears that adulterated honey might be entered. The fake version can be very difficult to detect and beekeepers warn that it is forcing down the price of honey, potentially driving them out of business. So how serious an issue has international honey fraud become and how concerned should consumers in the UK be? Sheila visits Bermondsey Street bees in Essex in search of answers and speaks to the UK's two biggest honey producers - Rowse and Hilltop Honey. Food fraud expert Professor Chris Elliott from Queen's University Belfast analyses the situation and Robin Markwell reports from Copenhagen where the world's largest convention of beekeepers was recently held. Produced for BBC Audio in Bristol by Robin Markwell

Baroness Shaista Gohir OBE, CEO of the Muslim Women's Network and Iman Atta, CEO of Tell Mama join Anita to discuss the WEC's findings.AI companions are becoming increasingly common, with one in three adults now using them for conversation, advice and support. Now recent research from Bangor University has shown that many teen AI companion users believe their bots can think or understand. Nicola talks to Anita about what happened next.Autism probably affects girls and boys equally, according to a long term study by the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden. The new research challenges previously held assumptions that autism is more common among males; it found that by the age of twenty, the male-to-female ratio of diagnoses was equal. But in children aged under ten, four boys are diagnosed for every one girl. To discuss the findings, Anita is joined by Doctor Judith Brown, Head of Evidence and Research at the National Autistic Society and Betsey, an autistic 18-year old university student.Presenter: Anita Rani Producer: Rebecca Myatt
Retirement planning is becoming more complex as careers grow less linear, lifespans extend, and financial decisions start earlier in life. Buy Now, Pay Later is boosting conversions, but quietly destroying margins. Buy Now, Pay Later looks like a conversion cheat code. Higher AOV. More checkouts. Fewer abandoned carts. BNPL customers return products more often, cost more to serve, and come with higher transaction fees than credit cards. When payments fail, merchants still eat the fees, the shipping, and the inventory risk. You'll learn why BNPL is not free money, how it impacts margins and cash flow, and what serious operators must track right now to avoid letting a payment method quietly destroy profitability. If BNPL drives a meaningful portion of your conversions, this episode is your wake-up call.
America's drug crisis isn't a science problem; it's a pricing and policy problem that blocks patients from medicines that already exist. In this episode, Dr. Jerry Avorn, a professor of medicine and leading expert in pharmacoepidemiology and medication policy, discusses why many patients still can't afford essential treatments even as breakthrough drugs for cancer and inflammatory disease proliferate. He shares a personal case where “nonadherence” was really unaffordability, then unpacks how US exceptionalism in drug pricing, patent “thickets,” and delayed competition keep costs unsustainably high. Dr. Avorn also contrasts access failures with overuse concerns, explores why other countries negotiate on the basis of value, and addresses objections to innovation and rationing, including a sobering example of cystic fibrosis in the UK. Finally, he explains how academic detailing spreads evidence-based prescribing and evaluates recent US attempts to let Medicare negotiate prices alongside more deal-driven approaches. Tune in and learn how drug prices, patents, and public funding shape what patients can actually access! Resources: Connect with and follow Dr. Jerry Avorn on LinkedIn. On the morning of February 8, 1983, a plumber working in London's Muswell Hill neighbor opened a drainage cover behind a Cranley Gardens apartment building and made a horrific discovery—the drain was blocked by pieces of bone and human tissue. Upon investigation, detectives traced the blockage back to one apartment in the building, where additional evidence suggested things were far worse than they'd initially thought. When the occupant of the apartment, Dennis Nilsen, was confronted with the human remains, he began telling investigators a shocking story and when he was finished, Nilsen had confessed to murdering and dismembering at fifteen men over the course of five years. In the annals of British crime, Dennis Nilsen ranks among the worst serial killers the country has ever seen, not only because of the number of people he killed, but also the method of disposal and the motive. Mighty Blue On The Appalachian Trail: The Ultimate Mid-Life Crisis
Savannah Schuring, or Snazzy Cat, took on an Appalachian Trail thru-hike–which she completed in a remarkable three months–as her graduate thesis. On the way, she was interviewing hikers as to their motivations to be out on the trail and learned so much from them, and about herself, with some fascinating conclusions. Savannah always loved the outdoors and, indeed, was a long-distance runner, but she came to love long hikes and completed her Triple Crown. Her new book, Between the Miles, is available on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0G3MCZS73 . You can also check out her website at http://savannahschuring.com , while you can connect with her on social media at https://www.instagram.com/direct/t/117946462927501/, or at https://www.instagram.com/direct/t/17846517893892959/ Our Hike the Good Hike member this week is Jim Wellman, who, like Steve, is attempting an Appalachian Trail thru-hike this year, starting about a month after Steve. Jim is open about his personal mental health struggles, and hope to reach others in a similar situation. You can follow Jim on several social media platforms on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/jimsonanotheradventure/ and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/jimwellmanPADI. He also has a YouTube channel, which you can find here, https://www.youtube.com/@jimwellman76310 Finally, our Accountability Blog brings us up to date with the preparations for my own hike on the Appalachian Trail next month. I used my hike in 2024 on the South West Coast Path in the UK to help raise money for my absolute favorite charity, Parenting Matters, on whose board I've been privileged to serve for over a decade. You can learn more about the hike and the organization–and donate–by visiting Hike with Steve - Empowering Parents, One Step at a Time | Parenting Matters %. I hope you want to support this critical mission. Don't forget. Our entire series of videos from our Woods Hole Weekend in 2022 is now FREE and available at my YouTube page at Woods Hole Weekend - Trailer There, you'll find all sorts of tips and tricks that our guests took away from the weekend that helped them with their own hikes this year. Check it out. I often ask listeners for ideas on who to interview, and I'm sure several of you say, "I could do that. I've got an awesome story to tell." You're the person we need to hear from. If you'd like to be interviewed on the podcast, just register as a guest on the link below, and I'll be in touch. Come on the show! If you like what we're doing on the Hiking Radio Network, and want to see our shows continue, please consider supporting us with either a one-off or monthly donation. You'll find the donate button on each Hiking Radio Network page at Hiking Radio Network . Additionally, you can join our membership at Steve (Mighty Blue) Adams. It's worth checking out what is on offer for you there. If you prefer NOT to use PayPal, you can now support us via check by mailing it to Mighty Blue Publishing, 3821 Milflores Drive, Sun City Center, FL 33573. Any support is gratefully received. Additionally, you can "Zelle" me a donation to steve@hikingradionetwork.com. Or "Venmo" me at @Steve-Adams-105. They both work! Markets are deep in risk-off mode as crypto winter tightens its grip. The ECB and Bank of England both held rates, with the BoE signaling it may be nearing the end of its easing cycle. UK political turmoil hit the pound, while tech stocks continued to unravel — AMD plunged 17%, Qualcomm disappointed, and Alphabet slid after announcing a massive increase in AI spending. Precious metals saw extreme volatility again, with silver crashing 15%, gold slipping, and oil falling after the U.S. and Iran agreed to hold talks. In macro data, German factory orders surged, but Eurozone retail sales fell, raising concerns about consumer demand. In crypto, Bitcoin dropped to $69,000, pushing the market back into Extreme Fear. Bhutan appears to be selling BTC it has mined since 2019, ETH hovered near $2,000, and scrutiny intensified around Trump-linked World Liberty Financial. CME also hinted it may explore issuing its own token.
Carl and Dan discuss the electoral battle in Gorton and Denton, and what it means for the rest of the UK.
CGS welcomes comic book artist and illustrator Charlie Adlard to the podcast for the very first time! It's a wonderful conversation ranging from Charlie's personal geekdom and early comic book discoveries, to LEGO, horror in comics and the UK comic convention scene, and to the craft and working methods on a number of projects including the recently released Altamont hardcover by Charlie and Herik Hanna from Image Comics. Enjoy! (1:56:38)
The Rickey Smiley Morning Show Podcast dives into today’s most urgent and eye‑opening celebrity and news stories. Nicki Minaj continues to spark controversy by doubling down on her support for Donald Trump’s immigration policies, equating border enforcement to protecting a private home—comments that have intensified public debate following her recent appearances with Trump and the revelation that she received a “gold card” giving her a pathway to citizenship. Meanwhile, Kim Kardashian is generating major buzz as her rumored romance with Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton grows more visible, supported by multiple sightings in Paris and the UK, where the two were seen arriving together and spending private time at luxury locations. Adding to the week’s explosive topics, GloRilla faces public scrutiny after her sister accused her of failing to support their mother—who allegedly still works at FedEx—despite the rapper’s rising success and multimillion‑dollar net worth, sparking heated debate online about celebrity responsibility to family. The podcast also highlights deeply troubling updates in the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, after investigators confirmed a ransom note containing specific details about her home and appearance on the night she vanished, though authorities have not validated its authenticity; with concerns heightened due to Nancy’s fragile health and evidence suggesting she was abducted from her home. "My Father's Shadow" is a 2025 drama film directed by Akinola Davies Jr. in his feature-length debut, from a screenplay he co-wrote with his brother, Wale Davies, and starring Gotham Award winner Sope Dirisu. Thanks to Tourism Tasmania, I'm on the ground in Maydena this week, riding the trails, soaking up the atmosphere, and bringing you content straight from Red Bull Hardline. After day two of practice, I was invited to host a live show in front of a packed Maydena crowd, where I sat down with three riders taking on Hardline for the very first time, Mikayla Parton, Ryan Gilchrist, and Aaron Gwin. Different backgrounds, different careers, same task ahead of them. We talk honestly about the fear that comes with hitting these features for the first time, how each of them is working through that, and what it takes to go from simply surviving the track to actually riding it at race pace. This is a fun, open, and insightful conversation with three of the best in the sport, recorded live in Tasmania. What if motherhood wasn't meant to be this hard – or this lonely? In this episode of Motherkind, Zoe is joined by journalist and bestselling author Helen Russell to explore how culture shapes the way we experience motherhood. After becoming a mother in Denmark, Helen shares how living in a Nordic system gave her “permission to live differently” – with more rest, trust, parental support and far less guilt. Together, Zoe and Helen unpack why so many mothers in the UK feel under pressure to cope alone, and how much of that is cultural rather than personal. In this conversation, we explore: Why vulnerability in motherhood is normal – not a failure How parental leave, childcare and systems reduce guilt and burnout What Denmark gets right about raising children and supporting mothers Why happiness doesn't mean feeling good all the time The power of community during big life transitions This episode is a gentle but powerful reminder that if motherhood feels overwhelming, it's not because you're doing it wrong – it's because you were never meant to do it alone. Remember to subscribe to Motherkind — it helps more mothers find the show and keeps our community growing. Feeling different since becoming a mother? Last month, Action Aid Ireland published a new report highlighting the challenges that lone migrant parents, mainly women, experience when they leave state accommodation. Many face discrimination, unaffordable rents and inadequate supports, leaving them effectively trapped between direct provision and homelessness. In today's episode, Deborah Oniah and Owodunni Mustapha (Ola) - two Nigerian women who have made the move from direct provision into secure housing - share their experience of finding accommodation as single parents in the middle of a housing crisis. We also hear from Karol Balfe, CEO of ActionAid Ireland, who explains what recommendations have come from the report and why for lone migrant parents, the barriers to securing housing are often multiplied. But first, Irish Times opinion editor Jennifer O'Connell is here to discuss some of the biggest stories of the week including the latest tranche of Epstein files released last Friday and a new Netflix documentary which questions the guilt of the UK's “most prolific child killer” Lucy Letby. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Our inspiring podcast guest today, Scott Tillema, is an award-winning keynote speaker and negotiation expert who helps leaders navigate difficult conversations with confidence, influence, and trust. Drawing on more than 20 years in law enforcement, including his work as an FBI-trained hostage negotiator and a business negotiator trained through the Harvard University Program on Negotiation, Scott brings rare, real-world insight into what it takes to lead effectively in high-stakes moments. His work focuses on showing leaders how to connect first, influence second, and create outcomes that move people and businesses forward. In this episode, Scott unpacks the psychology behind negotiation and human connection through four key factors: understanding, timing, delivery, and respect. He shares how his early life, career in law enforcement, and deep study of human behavior shaped his approach, why judgment blocks connection, and how problem-solving can sometimes stand in the way of true empathy. We also explore what bad leadership can teach us, why influence is a learnable skill, and why we should never forget that connection is at the very heart of influence. Join us for an eye-opening conversation about how to harness the influence you may not even know you have to change the world for the better. Key Highlights From This Episode: Scott's beginnings in hostage negotiations from studying psychology and working in law enforcement. [04:45] How his childhood and early adult experiences shaped his curiosity about what drives people. [06:53] How judgment acts as a barrier to connection and ultimately negotiation. I might overuse this word a little bit, but on this week's episode we do have a true pair of legends in conversation on the Talkhouse Podcast this week: Maynard James Keenan and Daniel Ash. Keenan is of course best known as the frontman for Tool, the dark, complex, heavy band he formed way back in 1990—but whose records come few and far between. Keenan is also the frontman for A Perfect Circle, but the reason for today's chat is yet another band, Puscifer. This one started out almost as a solo outlet for Keenan's weirdest ideas: There are comedic elements, and—fun fact—Puscifer actually sprung to life as part of a Mr. Show sketch. (Google it, it's a good story.) But the band has evolved over the years into a steady trio that features Keenan alongside Carina Round and Mat Mitchell, and that more recently has explored Keenan's most theatrical and straightforward impulses. It's funny, weird, and heavy, and the brand new Puscifer album, Normal Isn't, even nods sonically to UK post-punk bands like Killing Joke. Check out “Self Evident” right here. The other half of today's conversation is Daniel Ash, whose resume also includes a remarkable number of incredible bands, starting with Bauhaus, moving directly into Tones on Tail, and then heading for a long stretch into Love and Rockets, which reunited a couple of years ago for some very welcome shows. Ash's guitar playing over the years has been quietly influential on a ton of players; you can hear his tone in a remarkable swath of bands. Last year, he released the first album by his latest outfit, Ashes & Diamonds. Called Ashes & Diamonds Are Forever, it's unmistakably Ash's voice and tone, though in some flashier dressing on occasion. It's a lot of fun. Check out “Teenage Robots” right here. In this wide-ranging conversation, Ash and Keenan talk about Keenan's wine business—he was nice enough to send Ash some bottles in advance of this chat—as well as touring, making videos, and the seemingly inevitable future of AI. Ash thinks it's going to be good, so even if he's wrong, it's nice to hear some optimism. Ash is also obsessed with motorcycles, leading Keenan to suggest an intervention. Enjoy. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Maynard James Keenan and Daniel Ash for chatting. ABOUT THIS CONVERSATION: In this episode, I speak with James Delingpole, writer, journalist, and host of The Delingpod. This was the second time James has joined me on the podcast, and it turned out to be a more challenging conversation than I had expected. We began by discussing his thinly disguised autobiography, which led into a moment early in the conversation that shifted the tone. From there we explored the Epstein files, power structures, personal integrity, and how relationships can fracture when uncomfortable questions are asked.I think listeners will find this a thought provoking and worthwhile listen.Enjoy!DocLinksWebsite https://substack.com/@delingpoleIMPORTANT INFORMATIONCONSULTATION SERVICEIn a world of rushed 7-minute consultations and endless referrals, I offer you something rare: time, context, and clear guidance. As your health advocate, I can help you:Understand your diagnosis and decode medical jargonBreak down treatment plans in plain, easy to understand non jargon EnglishPrepare for surgery, understand your risks, obtain true informed consent, and optimise yourself pre-op Recover from surgery, advise you how to heal faster and quicker and minimise post-op complicationsManage chronic illness with lifestyle, mindset, and dietary changesExplore holistic options that complement conventional careImplement lifestyle changes like fasting, stress reduction, or movementAsk better questions, and get real answersGet an unbiased second opinionReady to Take Control? If you're navigating a health concern, preparing for a big decision, or simply want to feel more confident in your path forward, I'd love to support you.Book here https://docmalik.com/consultations/ SeagreenIf you want to support your health naturally, I highly recommend trying Sea Greens, a rich source of bioavailable iodine and trace minerals that nourish thyroid function, balance hormones, and provide a clean daily boost from wild ocean plants.
