Roleplaying games and the Marvel universe may be fictional, but they can also teach us a lot about morality in the real world. Christopher Robichaud is a Lecturer in Ethics and Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. In this episode, he shares ways we can explore important, everyday issues in fun, safe, and unexpected ways. Christopher has made a career out of teaching ethics and philosophy using pop culture, dissecting moral questions using anything from zombie apocalypse simulations to superhero narratives. He received his doctorate in philosophy from MIT. In 2015 he won the Innovation in Teaching Award at the Harvard Kennedy School for creating a day-long simulation--using design elements from old school tabletop roleplaying games like D&D--where policy students wielded their leadership skills and confronted ethical dilemmas to deal with a zombie pandemic. Lern also reveals she once got emotional seeing Chicago's Bean, proving once again that public art can be powerful when it looks like a gigantic piece of silver produce.A swimmer at Lake Tahoe reportedly gets attacked by an otter and requires 38 stitches, prompting Rafe to immediately begin defending the otter because apparently wildlife now has legal representation on The Rizzuto Show. Then there's a possible shark attack near the Massachusetts location associated with Jaws, followed by the deeply upsetting story of a woman waking from a dream about a mouse crawling toward her mouth... only to discover there was actually a BAT near her mouth.We also discover a Hawaiian shirt designed to confuse AI-powered surveillance cameras, which means Weird Al may have been preparing for the surveillance state this entire time.Missouri and Illinois get dragged into America's "worst vibes" rankings before the crew investigates which states hate each other the most. Missouri's answer? Kansas. Obviously. A canceled connection, rerouting through Dallas, delays into Los Angeles and another delay getting back to St. Louis gave him plenty of time to catch up on movies. Unfortunately, that included The Mandalorian and Grogu, which gets a very enthusiastic C-minus review. Somewhere, a Star Wars fan just felt a disturbance in the Force.Then we discover that Americans apparently hit an energy wall around 2:48 in the afternoon, which explains basically every email you've ever received after lunch. Rafe's sleep schedule is wrecked, Lern is fighting afternoon cravings with hard-boiled eggs, and that leads to perhaps the most important culinary advice ever delivered on a funny podcast: if you've already hard-boiled the egg, you're halfway to a deviled egg.That discussion somehow turns into stale cereal confessions. Lern admits to eating old strawberry vanilla Chex after band practice while Rafe reveals that he knowingly ate stale Pops AND stale Golden Grahams. But while dinosaur versions of the Fantastic Four are already plenty of fun, the real highlight comes when Doctor Doom encounters the only person he believes he can truly trust: another Doctor Doom.That's right. Human Doom teams up with Dinosaur Doom, creating the short-lived but glorious partnership of Doomasaur the Doctor Doom Dinosaur. A human Doctor Doom teaming up with a dinosaur Doctor Doom is exactly the kind of wonderfully absurd concept that Ryan North's Fantastic Four has become so good at embracing.DOOMASAUR the Doctor Doom Dinosaur: Two Universes Are About to CollideThe larger story centers around the increasingly dangerous collision between the human Marvel Universe and a parallel universe populated by dinosaur versions of its inhabitants.The Fantastic Four have already encountered their prehistoric counterparts, but the situation becomes far more serious as the two realities begin to threaten each other's existence. One universe may have to be sacrificed if the heroes can't find a solution.Meanwhile, the two Dooms see opportunity rather than disaster.Instead of working to save both worlds, Doom and his dinosaur counterpart devise their own plan to bring the universes together and create even more territory for them to rule. How do you preserve physical video games in a world increasingly designed around downloads? How much would you pay for a really good keyboard? And what exactly happens when you sort the Nintendo Switch store from cheapest to most expensive? Xbox Finds a New Use for the Game Disc One of the episode's biggest discussions centers on Microsoft's Xbox Discs to Digital initiative. The concept offers an interesting middle ground between physical and digital ownership. A supported Xbox disc can be authenticated and connected to a player's digital library, potentially giving players digital access while the disc itself continues to function as the transferable proof of ownership. That last part is important. If the disc is sold and authenticated by somebody else, the digital access moves with it. For Sorg, who has stacks of Xbox One games and a console with a failed optical drive, this could solve a very practical problem. It also opens possibilities for finding inexpensive used Xbox games at stores such as GameStop and turning them into accessible digital titles.
