Sunday, August 4, 2024 Pastor Randy Williamson shares a message entitled My Flesh and Blood This message is also available on video
Today's Topics: 1) Gospel - Jn 6:52-59 - The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, "How can this Man give us His Flesh to eat?" Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the Flesh of the Son of Man and drink His Blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For My Flesh is true food, and My Blood is true drink. Whoever eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood remains in Me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent Me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on Me will have life because of Me. This is the Bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this Bread will live forever." These things He said while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum. Bishop Sheen quote of the day 2, 3) Connie Marshner author of "Monastery and High Cross - The Forgotten Eastern Roots of Irish Christianity" (Sophia Press) https://sophiainstitute.com/product/monastery-and-high-cross/ 4) Actor Rob Schneider unveils his Catholic conversion story https://www.churchpop.com/actor-rob-schneider-unveils-his-catholic-conversion-story-ive-never-felt-more-peaceful/
B. Cox and J Owe look back at the late DMX's second studio album Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood as it turns 25. After setting the industry on fire during the previous year and a half and the explosive success of his debut It's Dark and Hell Is Hot earlier in the year, the Yonkers emcee was taking full advantage of his star while on fire. Less than seven months from his debut's release and about a six weeks from the release of his acting debut in the hood drama Belly, he released his sophomore album before the end of year.In a slight change from It's Dark, he employed more production from Swiss Beatz, whose production made up the majority of the album. While a few songs took a more commercial approach than those in the debut, the rest of the album lined up with what his persona and style came to embody. His lyrics were candid, personal, raw and unapologetic and his theme was a bit more spiritual as well. He collaborated with the likes of fellow Yonkers and Ruff Ryders affliates the LOX, Drag-On, Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z and even rock star Marilyn Manson. The album featured his signature song "Slippin" and also "No Love 4 Me". The album debuted as #1 on the Billboard 200 and also was certified triple platinum. He became the 2nd artists to have two albums released in the same year debut as #1, the other being the late Tupac Shakur in 1996.Visit The Vault Classic Music Reviews Onlinewww.vaultclassicpod.comBuy Exclusive The Vault Podcast Merchandise!www.vaultclassicpod.com/storeSupport The Vault Classic Music Reviews on Buy Me A Coffeehttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/vaultclassicpodBuild Your Own Amazing Podcast Website In Less Than 5 Minutes!https://www.podpage.com/?via=ivecre8Show NotesThe Fader: The True Story of How "Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood" was madehttps://www.thefader.com/2016/12/04/dmx-flesh-of-my-flesh-oral-history-ruff-rydersDJBooth: DMX's "Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood" Is A Timeless Christmas Miraclehttps://djbooth.net/features/2018-12-22-dmx-flesh-of-my-flesh-christmas-miracle-20-year-anniversaryUDiscoverMusic: "Flesh Of My Flesh, Blood Of My Blood": DMX's Great Hip-Hop Disruptionhttps://www.udiscovermusic.com/stories/dmx-flesh-of-my-flesh-blood-of-my-blood/Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-vault-classic-music-reviews-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
For today's episode, I am joined by Lalena and Annika Fisher, the mother-daughter duo who make up Austin, Texas art-punk outfit The Mothermold. We discuss the unique dynamic of playing in a band with your immediate family, playing a Harry Styles pre-show with Girls Rock Austin, and the culmination of their 2022 debut album 'Flesh of My Flesh.'✨ MORE ABOUT THE MOTHERMOLD ✨The Mothermold is a mother-and-daughter heavy rock duo. Visual artist Lalena Fisher, formerly of NYC's The Color Guard and The Hissyfits, plays guitar while aspiring doctor Annika kicks serious butt on drums. They named their project after the supportive outer shell of a sculptural mold, as a metaphor for their relationship. The Mothermold is an experiment in superimposing a mother-daughter bond on the stereotypically male “rock band” trope. Both sing and write songs that fuse metal, punk, prog, and pop, while exploring ideas of science, women, and coming of age. ✨ KEEP UP TO DATE WITH THE MOTHERMOLD ✨Bandcamp: https://themothermold.bandcamp.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/the_mothermold/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mothermold/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@the_mothermoldTwitter: https://twitter.com/the_mothermold✨ CONNECT WITH IZZY ✨YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCv6SBgiYCpYbx9BOYNefkIgWebsite: https://agrrrlstwosoundcents.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/agrrrlstwosoundcents/Twitter: https://twitter.com/grrrlsoundcents

You know that line in The Green Mile? The one in which Eduard Delacroix -- after stepping out of his cell to walk to his impending death -- tells Brutal, Paul, Dean, and Harry that he wishes he "coulda met you guys somewheres else"?That's kinda how I feel about Kenton Campbell, which is not to say I'm not grateful for knowing him at all; I am. I just think that -- perhaps under different circumstances, perhaps had a couple of zigs been zags instead -- we mighta been good buddies. Who knows. Maybe we'd even occasionally hoop together.I say all that to say this: Mr. Campbell didn't owe me a shingle's worth o' shit, but he took time out of his busy schedule regardless, and he swung by for Episode #28 of the Badass Records Podcast, and I'm super-stoked that he did.I suspected that -- were he to commit to doing an episode -- his selections might include a curve ball or two. I wasn't wrong and I wasn't disappointed. We discussed Lil' Wayne's Tha Carter II (2005), DMX's Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood (1998), Master P's Ghetto D (1997), Lauryn Hill's The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998), and Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP (2000), and all five were a true treat to dissect with Kenton. We also talked about parenting and housing and language and life. We briefly visited basketball and culture, and family and what life might be like in the recording industry, and all of it was great fun.I could bore you with a dozen more details about how I'm blessed that folks -- amongst and within all of the hiccups and rejection -- continue to say, Yes, to be a part of this endeavor, but I'll spare you them. It's been about a half a year since this thing went live, and I still have faith that the universe is allowing for it to happen because it exists as tiny doses of good stock in humanity. To that end, if you enjoy this conversation (or any others you may've stumbled across), please consider sharing with a friend.Thank you.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the intro/outro audio samples. They are clips from a tune called "Got Messed Up" off of R.L. Burnside's 2000 record, Wish I Was in Heaven Sitting Down (c/o Fat Possum Records), which I can assure you is an essential album from the library of badass records.
Season3 Episode 88 Relationships For The Modern Christian Part 1 [0:00] Hello and welcome to season 3 episode 88 of the Berean Manifesto, faith hope and love for the modern Christian this is Pastor newms and I'm here again by myself as Pastor Bill is still on a break. [0:19] So to get started and give people you know time to kind of get to know us and get to. Continue to join us Hello's Zaydiee welcome. My week was pretty good we are really really really busy at work overcapacity type busy so that is fun and we are, ghetto plugging along so my week has had a lot of a lot of that aspect I have been in the evenings playing a lot of Pokémon I finished this week my live decks and finish out the quote-unquote decks for Pokemon Arceus that was exciting I still don't have the 10 stars and have not finished all of the side quests, for those of you out there in Internet land who know what that means I still have some more to go, but I did at least get most of the game finished we have my life jackets done which was my overall true goal before moving on to, the next thing that I'm going to try to tackle turned up a cone an exile server to play if anyone out there is playing Conan Exiles and wants to join us let me know. [1:47] The 3.0 patch is coming soon and so I wanted to get a server up so that way when that was out we could play together so that is going to be fun and I have I did stream once this week and I actually streamed that hoping to do some more this week we're going to be doing a lot of changes there's some new stuff happening in the house and so because of that moving some stuff around throughout the next two weeks as we have a bunch of craziness going on so it's going to be good so that is kind of. [2:25] Where I'm at for the week I'm it's pretty good I hope all of you out there that are listening and we'll listen to this later have all enjoyed your weeks as well is the last day of July I can't believe tomorrow is August it's just crazy to me how time is just flying by but it's how we live. Hum so the next thing we want to discuss is getting to know the pastor's which is of course my favorite part of the. Podcast and I'm still not sure why I'm doing it without Pastor Bill making me but. [3:11] Here Comes getting know the pastor's if the daytime high temperature has to be exactly the same every day of the year what would you want the temperature to be. Hmm so if it's got to be the highest temperature. Little will never get higher. The downside Zaydiee of 68 or 64 which I agree with somewhere in that range is my favorite temperature the downside of that temperature though, we would never have snow if the high has to be that every day. [3:59] And I like the rainy cold I like. Snow so I'm I'm torn I would not want it to be snowing every day though so I wouldn't want in the 30s every day so I'm. I'm a little torn by this question but I would have to say somewhere around 65. Because that means actually I'd probably say like 73 ish because that means the mornings would be a little bit crisp. In the evenings would be a little bit cooler but the day wouldn't get too hot so maybe like 68 69 70 72 somewhere around that area. [4:52] So you say 73 is too warm but yet the house is currently set for. 73 so you are currently sitting in 73 with a blanket in the living room, just saying zadie not that I'm trying to back a bus over you while you're cuddling a blanket on the couch watching this. But yeah. [5:24] Huh anyway yeah I definitely would have to say it's somewhere somewhere in that. [5:34] In that. High 60s low 70s is where it is where I'd want to keep it probably yeah I think so. [5:50] All right so now. Comes the part that we're all actually here for which is us talking about stiff so. For tonight's tooth. I would like to say we're sorry for last week of not being live and not having a podcast come out we had some family relationship stuff come up not, in my family group, our family some relationships we have outside of our family someone had an emergency and so we took care of that and you know that's one of the things that's really important, to us at the occasion house and on the Brie and manifest so our relationships. And you know we've talked about relationship friendship evangelism in the past we've talked about you know all the different aspects but relationships are so important and that's what we really are. [6:54] Looking at tonight is relationships because relationships are more important, to us here at the occasion house then things like, getting together that's why we have the format we have we're we're together talking about these items it's not just me talking it's not just passed a bill talking it's it's all of us talking about these things together people in the chat, I'm over here people in the chat discussing so that way it engages everyone and we're having these conversations and topics together so that's really what we are discussing tonight is, relationships for the modern Christian. [7:35] Now the bad thing is is since I started doing being the big faced over the last couple of weeks. They're I've made every single one of these like a question and then not answer the question, and I didn't do that tonight it's just, relationships for their Mountain Christian and so I feel a little bad about that but I couldn't come up with a clever title. And so that's kind of where we are. Biggs how was what you're asking how was how was what, and while he he he types that out so you know there are three relationships I really want to look at tonight and this actually might go slightly long and if it does will show. [8:30] We'll do a part 2 and then that's okay we can do things like that the first one I want to look at is the relationship we have in, spouses yes the hope you know good food and good friends it's some of the most important things we can do in life, so the first thing I want to look at is spouses and you know when we look at spouses there is a. [8:58] Biblical and Christian Dynamic to a lot of spousal interactions and people look at. Spouses in marriage and long-term relationships and they're like well you know. This is what this says and this is what that says and we should always do this and we should always do that and there's often times this. Hierarchical structure that goes one way or another which does have its roots in biblical times. But on the same token oftentimes it's grossly simplified the man is the head of the house no matter what and it's like no matter what isn't fully. The answer there but. [9:46] There are reasons for certain aspects like that and so I want to start we're going to go all the way back, not all the way almost all the way to Genesis 22 23 and 25, and the csb it says and the man said this one at last is bone of my bone and Flesh of My Flesh this one would be called woman for she was taken from man this is why a woman leaves his father and mother and bonds with his wife and they become one flesh both the man and his wife were naked and felt no shame now, I could have easily stopped at the end of verse 24 there but I. Didn't obviously and the reason is is because, that both the man and his wife were naked and felt no shame if I had to be really important to a lot of conversation not that we're going the sexual route with this particular, podcast as we try to keep the podcast more family-friendly than my traditional streams and so we're not going to go that direction but. [10:53] There was no shame between a husband and a wife there shouldn't be shame between a husband and a wife ever no matter what it is because you guys should be coming together as one flesh in all things. You know I I will often forget. That my spouse exists for small moments of time and make really stupid decisions and and not even say well what do you think and then it hits me who the other half is more smart than I am, see what I did there I said more smart she wouldn't say more smart, she would say smarter which is actually the real word for those of you out here who might not realize that I was making a funny joke so. The the aspect there was one of those things that came up actually this weekend where I was like this is how we're going to do it this this is what makes the most sense and. [11:57] My wife who is Sadie in chat and she was like yeah I understand why you think that and I agree with you to a certain degree that's the best option but, I started thinking about it and here are the list of reasons why that's wrong. And it's all because you won't like it wasn't like she didn't come at me like hey these are the reasons why I disagree with what you're doing she came at me with have you thought about these aspects, if you do what you're planning on doing. You're going to regret it in six months for these reasons because you are super picky about certain things and I was like oh those are all super valid and. You know we came together on that as opposed to just me saying but I'm right or her saying but you're wrong we came together and had an adult conversation around those and there wasn't a shame of will you're dumb and you're stupid and you're this and you're that and we try never to go down that route. There are there are times that that I'm mean and we don't because I'm definitely not perfect especially when I get upset. But that's that aspect of we should be bonded and be one flesh together. [13:24] And then if you are one flesh, the shame and the fighting and the certain aspects of those are more limited because you are together of one mind and of one, body because that one flesh that includes you know one mind one conversation you've talked about it you've made decisions together you've you're doing things as a couple not as, a husband and wife it is as spouses and as. One flesh one flesh together one flesh like this like this like this like this okay so. [14:03] And you know then we get into the conversation of. You know well that's the Old Testament the New Testament is completely different because Jesus came and he changed all the rules, all the rules well and then we if we turn to Matthew 19 four and six, now you know Jesus changed all the rules from the Old Testament to the New Testament don't forget right we just say that so this is Jesus talking. [14:36] And he says haven't you read. He replied he didn't say he replied of course that sad that he who created them in the beginning made them male and female and he also said for this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and the two will become one flesh so they are no longer two but one flesh therefore, what God has joined together let no one separate and, I want to dig into this for a couple of reasons so one obviously Jesus said the same thing that was recorded in Genesis which was hey the two of you are one, stop acting like you're separate. And that's important because you're no longer two but you are joined in the flesh. [15:32] And then it's like what God has joined let no one separate and I want to touch on that part, a little bit because that's one of those areas where people are like well that means you should never have a divorce no in other parts are scripture there are reasons for divorce you know there are there are things listed that way I'm not trying to you know we're not going down that road of a who divorces divorces Ascend because of this verse well no, now. What God has joined let no one separate now that's also important to look at because here's the problem let no one separate not, not. One of them separate let no one no one else no one outside of do not separate what God has put together now here's a problem. What happens when you're with someone and it wasn't of God. [16:29] It opens a big can of worms that that statement of, what God has joined let no one separate what if you didn't what if you didn't have a marriage ceremony you just sign the papers you didn't you rushed, you rushed in and and there wasn't Godly counsel you didn't consult God at all God wasn't, part of it what if your uneven little yoked God wasn't a part of it and then God becomes part of it for one of you and so you're not. You know the burden that's on you that's helping to decide the path that you take is now different. There are lots of reasons why but someone outside of your marriage should not be the reason why your marriage. [17:21] Breaks up one of you the two you know something needs to happen in there and if God joins you. You shouldn't be separate so stop going out there and get into relationships and getting married and all that other stuff and never Consulting the person who created the universe and knows a thing or two about, said Universe just don't do it it does don't do it. [17:53] Now now we want to jump to a versus the basis of a lot of what we were talking about. [18:01] In the beginning that a lot that some people have taken out of context taking the step to far I won't say out of context but the Step too far. As you know it's always the next guy who takes it a step too far so when we look at Ephesians 5:22 through 33 this is the limit of a large passage so bear with me as I get through wives submit to your husband's as to the Lord because the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church he is the savior of the body now as in the church submits to Christ also wives are to submit to their husbands in everything husbands love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her to make her holy cleansing her with the washing of, Water by the word he did this to present the church to himself in splendor without spot or wrinkle or anything like that but holy and blameless in the same way husbands are to love their wives as their own bodies he who loves his wife, loves himself for no one ever hated his own flesh but provides and cares for it just as Christ does for the church since we are members of his body for this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and the two will become one see there's that reference again this mystery is profound but I am talking about Christ in the church to sum up each one of you is to love his wife as himself and the wife is to respect her husband. [19:27] So I find it interesting that in his summary he doesn't talk about submission, but talks about respect because that's a real big thing you hear often people that talk about this passage especially in the old the older generations and the older. Facets of the church they will say things like you know. [19:57] Anything a man does you need to listen. And that's not necessarily true. That submit to your husbands that is to be a subordinate to obey but also under obedience. To be put in subjugation to submit oneself on to so it's that aspect of. [20:29] I love you here I am here I am you know I'm yours now in that. The Hut the husband is supposed to love his wife if you love your own body you don't mistreat it it's plainly what it says. So because of that. If you are in an abusive relationship where your spouse is is beating on you and you're like well I'm supposed to submit no no that's that's not where the line is, you're supposed to submit because he's supposed to be loving you and sacrificing himself for you there's that that, two-person part of relationship you know people love to quote part of it and forget the other part when it's available for. A husband is supposed to love their wife and sacrifice for them. If he's never sacrificing the question is outlined does he ever loved, now that sacrificing can happen in a thousand different ways and it looks different in every relationship so of course externally we should not be the one to judge things like that and internally you have to look deep into okay what are the reasons for all of this. [21:54] But the big thing there is the aspect of. Loving each other and respecting each other. And even though it says you know submit to your husband part of it is a husband should also be sacrificial. To the wife so you know I find it funny some people are like okay so you know. Wives submit to your husbands and then it's like okay that means do whatever he says and then he says to do something crazy and you're like well my husband told me I had to do it but. In telling you to do something crazy he's breaking the aspect of loving you as. Himself and as you know. He's not following that either so you have to find that balance in everything because it's important. You know we shouldn't be taking advantage of our spouses in either side because that's not how. [23:06] We're supposed to do it it's not what the Bible actually says so stop taking scripture out of context just so you can be. [23:15] I mean it's rude so. After that after spouses the relationship you have with your spouse, the next thing I want to talk about is the relationship you have with children because that's kind of a natural progression you know spouses children that's one of the types of relationships we have in life as Christians and, as people who procreate and breathing. Are human so we're going to look first at Ephesians. [23:55] 6 1 through 4, and this is the probably one of the most quoted scriptures about children and it says children obey your parents in the Lord because this is right, honor your father and mother which is the first commandment with promise so that it may go well with you and that you may live a long life in the land fathers do not stir your children to anger but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. So this is important for several reasons we often hear children obey your parents children obey your parents children obey your parents yes, yes we get it honor your father and mother yes we have to honor our father and mother father and mother yes. [24:44] But the other aspect is as parents. We have to also not provoke our children. To anger and. Them in an incorrect. Aspect we should be bringing them up and training them in the way they should go no not, just dictating rules that shouldn't be followed for their whole lives and you know, are just you know there are some people out there who just do it because they quote-unquote can there's no valid reasons for what they're doing they're not doing it for their child safety they're not doing it because of you know any reason other than my house my rules which yeah it is but. On the same token your house your rules are they, valid rules are they steeped in something that is healthy and normal or do your rules. [26:04] Do you rules that you have our rules that are detrimental to your children you know do you have crazy rules that are actually unsafe but it's the rule you know now of course we're talking about parents who are. Abusing in different ways their children when you start to deal in those aspects and as big said rules have to be different for every child just because you have rules in your house doesn't mean it's right for both children I have two very different children running around my house one of them if she's tired she goes to sleep. [26:40] She she she doesn't. Need to try to go to sleep once she decides it's time to go to sleep she's like her daddy she lays down she's out the other one. Has trouble sleeping so she lays down. And if we turn her phone off we turn her TV off we turn all technology off we should no books no nothing no just lay there, she will she will just lay there for hours and be like 1:00 in the morning and I'm going to bed and she's like that can have a hug you're like why are you wide awake what have you been doing. Laying here so it's different you have to have a different rule set for each of those two kids because one is go to bed all right sleep wake up in the morning the other one is okay I'm gonna stare at the ceiling for two hours okay no you can go read a book, like pull out a lamp like turn the lamp on read a book like do something you don't have to just lay there you shouldn't be on a lot of technology to blue lights are terrible for sleeping, I get that. But there are other things that are okay don't just lay there like that's I don't want you to have to do that that's boring and and I I wouldn't do it I'd like to do something else let's be honest. [28:00] Yes as zaidi said the other one is too much like her mama because her mama will do that I'll roll over them like how did you sleep I didn't and I'm like what do you mean you. You didn't sleep I didn't hear you now I just laid here you were asleep they want to bother you big says no Legos there too loud I would have to agree with that that was a rule when I was growing up I need very little sleep even as a child and so because of that I would wake up early, or go to bed later than my parents sometimes because Dad woke up at a completely different time and I wasn't allowed to play with Legos because I was right next to their bedroom and, they're allowed to roll out and Biggs also made a joke of don't date until they're 18. I know that's a joke because that wasn't the rule in our house growing up but he has two granddaughters and. I am not ready for them to start dating anytime soon so I'm thinking like 25 which is also inaccurate but it's all good so that's that aspect of when we look at, those and then I want to point out the two words that are real important there. [29:19] Obey your parents so that word obey, is sorry my stuff is very bad hoop a cougar oh oh oh oh oh oh I don't know it's a lot of letters, but I try and so it is to hear under as a subordinate, that is to listen attentively by implication to heat or to conform to a calm command or authority Harkin be obedient to obey and then, when we look at honor it is to prize that is to fix a valuation upon to Revere and to honor so. Those are real important what those words truly mean because often you hear you should obey me no matter what well mmm. You know I'm not going to say children don't obey your parents. There is a difference between children obey your parents and honor your father and mother so honor your father and mother that doesn't stop ever, you should always have a valuation and you should always Revere value your parents period. No questions the obey is you should heed their command. [30:47] But heating a command and doing it no matter what. Is different go jump off of a tree you know I'll joke with my girls go jump off a bus and they're like okay start walking towards you know start walking towards the front door like they're going to go jump off a bridge and you're like do not go jump off a get back in hmm and you know it's a joke but you know I'm glad they don't obey right away, in certain things cuz it's a joke you know so we have to look at things like that you know let's be let's be normal humans and know that. People aren't perfect and not now if you notice in there. It says honor your father and mother which is the first commandment with promise so that it may go well with you and you may have a long life okay well I'm you know let's look at where that comes from, and to do that we've got to go back to Exodus 20 and anyone who has been in. You know Christian circles for a long time for those of you out there that have you know Exodus 20. [31:58] For those of you who are new to Christ or listening to this as someone who is not a Christian. I'll explain when Exodus 20 years Exodus 20 is where we get the Ten Commandments and so it's the list of you know hey don't do this do this you know don't go murder people don't commit. [32:20] Adultery don't go steal don't lie about your neighbor you know you know there's all these different aspects. So when you get down to verse 12 of Exodus 20 it says honor your father and mother so that you may have a long life in the land that the Lord your God is giving you so. [32:43] It's the only one in that group that has a do this. [32:53] And this will happen you know some of them are do this and I will do this which is different. [33:03] But this one is you know. It has a promise attached it is it is a good thing. Do this honor your your elders and this is honoring your elders what I one of those aspects of honoring your elders that's not something unique to Christianity like certain things are unique to Christianity you know do not. Worship any God but me you know that's one that is you know unique to Christianity as far as Christianity is the only one that says you should only worship going you know. [33:46] You know that's one of those aspects the Sabbath the Sabbath is not taught in every religion that we should take a break once a week. [33:56] You know things like that are. But honoring your parents that's the threat honor your elders respect the people that brought you into the world now. [34:12] One of the things I will say about this is coming from someone who has a lot of friends with a lot of different backgrounds and a lot of different situations. I'm going to throw out an example hate me Pete me spit in my face every time I see you that does not mean go hang out with your parents every day they're my parents. But I think I have cut them off they are far away. And in that is a certain amount of Honor you're far away I don't want it I'm not I'm not you go away you know. [35:05] Again this goes back to healthy relationships this is the perfect way of doing things so this is you know God giving Commandments and giving rules for, dealing with each other in the correct circumstances with circumstances outside of correct circumstances. You have to make other decisions and that's where the Holy Spirit comes into play that's where you have to pray about it seek guidance from Godly counsel and friends that are that are Godly you know things like that you do not just. Well I know that they I know that they tried to poison. My wife but you know they're still my parents and I have to love them you don't have to go to their house on Sundays for dinner though if there, trying to, kill your spot like no no no those need cut off and move on you know so let's be let's be smart about things not just follow. Blindly not thinking about situational aspects and we would be remiss. [36:21] You are so big says you are married so you have to leave and start your. [36:42] Yeah okay so yeah so you know you're together with your spouse so yeah you honor your father and mother still but that doesn't mean they're like you know. Chilling in the backyard 24/7 like. [36:57] You know hey did you take out the trash like your wife asked you you know. Don't don't hopefully that's not your life if that's your life mm I'm sorry you should probably think about situations all right, and I would be it would be wrong of me to discuss children and things without discussing Proverbs 22:6. And I might actually have to save the second half of this for another day cuz I don't think I'm going to be we'll get through it in 18 minutes. And so I think we're going to save this as a part two for the second part of this and just talk out this more but. [37:41] Proverbs 22:6 is it states starter youth out on the way. On his way even when he grows old he will not depart from it and this verse is real important for for for those of us that are, religious and for those of you that are not because the way you start a youth the way you train a child, determines where they are going to end up if you teach your kid to be a. [38:16] Mean person then they are going to go through life at a certain point and become a mean person. [38:27] If you teach your children hatred they are going to continue to have hatred now which teach your children love they are going to have love. You raise your children as in the religion that you currently hold for us it's Christianity. [38:45] They will not depart from it fully that does not mean, there will not be times where your kids Rebel and do not listen and do other things this is not a magic recipe for. To have perfect adults later just because we raised our children and try to instill in them certain values that we prescribe to as humans of hey don't be. Mean to others you know love each other that does not mean they won't grow up to be a jerk, but they will remember that they're not supposed to be a jerk and it will hurt ya big says that he did the best he could but he said we. My parents did the best they could sometimes you just grow up to be a jerk it's the personality I have and I'm just I'm rough around the edges and it's it's hard I try though I really do have tried very hard and I know what's right I just sometimes come across, as jerk and then I go back and apologize of hey I didn't, I mean to be a jerk and I feel terrible that I was and that's the part that they did instill in me um. [40:14] The Don't Be a Jerk didn't stick as well as they would like but the being apologetic jerk did stick sacrifice yourself for others did stick. You know show love did stick um just. I'm a little more Rough Around the Edges than some people would enjoy as there's this there's this beautiful wonderful Soul who lives next to my, parents and she is the sweetest lady my parents live in a 65 and up area, they got their 55 and up sorry not 65 or no I just I just aged Biggs he's gonna get real mad, a 55 and up community and they're in there they're close to my grandparents and and then on the other side is the super nice lady and her parents are all of course grown I mean her children are all grown they come to visit when they can but they all live their own lives and she is just the sweetest little thing and. [41:17] We were over there this week I know you're not even 60 bags and I am sorry I did not mean to age you like that we were over there and she asked if I could help her move a table she was going to pick up this is little coffee table I mean a little a little, little 4-person table for the dining room but, no big deal yeah sure I'll be you know I was I was hanging out with my mom so sure no problem, and so we're over there and it's beautiful white, off-white white-ish table and the chairs and then a wood finish on the top and on the seats of the chairs and it works really well in her kitchen because her cabinets are the same color not her cabinets her. [42:05] Thing that you put China China cabinet her china cabinet is the same color as the top and then her trim and stuff is, white so it ties the room together really nicely and she was like oh it will be so her daughter was like oh it'll be so nice she has to help lighten the room and I was like well you know I am personally I'm not trying to lighten any rooms we try to keep rooms nice and dark in my house we got you know dark Furniture you know I like things a little dark and this poor sweet lady she looks to be in ghosts, well honey that's just because you're just a darker person and we love you anyway it's just how you are and I'm like. I mean she's not wrong I'm wearing a black T-shirt I've got my nails like beards black chain wrong like I'm just a darker person you know we all do our own things but she's super sweet and you know she didn't mean of course any malice bye. She's such a sweetheart and so it was just so cute because she was like you're just a darker person my wife, did not let me leave that down for the rest of the day anytime she could say it she did and it was great because we love the wonderful lady next door, and her husband who is in a facility my girls love them they're just they're such sweet people. [43:28] So that's you know one of those things we have to look at as adults and as Christians in relationships. Since we're at the 49 minute mark I'm not going to jump into the next section because there were three sections we needed to discuss we discussed spouses you know how we should treat our spouses let's be smart about it let's show love to each other as if we are each other we are we are together we are one let's handle life as one. With our children you know train them correctly gentle guiding not. [44:10] Anything else gentle guiding them the way they should go not saying there doesn't have to be disciplined there is time for negative and positive reinforcement. Gentle, guiding on both sides there are times we take away things there are times we do time out there are times we do different things gentle guiding positive and negative reinforcement the last one we really want to talk about is friendship. Because guess what. Who do we have more of in our lives our spouses and our children or friends now depending on your family size you might have more. Spouses and children then you do friends because some people have a lot of kids I don't know how y'all do it your job can't do it. Same with spouses I can't do more than one I can barely lovingly be with one. [45:09] Couldn't do multiple and two is enough children. [45:15] And and yes zadie your spouse me is also your friend and was your best friend for years before we were married but, we do handle our friends differently than our spouses and hopefully, you do what zaidi did where your spouse was your friend first and you've gone through all this friendship stuff we're going to talk about next week before. Getting into. [45:44] Relationships shouldn't get into relationships with strangers necessarily I know we live in the dating age but please get to know people before you just start dating them, and in case y'all heard that sorry my dog just decided to freak out for no reason. [46:01] Hopefully that wasn't as loud for you all as it was for us here if it was I will try to edit that down or I will just remove this part completely we'll see. But in that I hope you guys. [46:18] Heard this and understand what we're trying to go next week we never do this this is crazy next week we're gonna be talking about friendship. And yeah as they just said if you heard her yell a swear word. Our dog scared her so it happens we're not perfect here so for everyone out there. We love you we hope you have a great week this is recorded live on Sunday nights at 6:30 Central Time on Sundays it goes out on our. Twitch okay sorry no swearing, okay yeah they did not hear you swearing so we're good on Sunday nights this goes out on Twitch YouTube and Facebook you can go to our website EKK.HOUSE. Know which twitch which Facebook in which YouTube it is my personal twitch pastor newms and we will hopefully see you guys in that live so you can be part of this discussion like Biggs and zaidi was tonight where you can get into the discussion in that way. But I hope you guys all have a great week we love you and please be safe out there see you next time.
“All power has been given to me in Heaven and on earth. Go therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things whatever I have commanded you. And know that I will be with you always, until the end of time”. Matthew 28:19-20Family, we have a Treasure, of so great a magnitude it has kept our Church alive and strong and protected against millenniums of struggle with the devil who has been trying to destroy us since he tempted Jesus on the Mount of Temptation in Jericho. And how has He been able to keep that promise to us, that promise of being with us, living within our souls, giving us strength to stand up against the powers of hell? He is always with us in the Sacrament of His Body and Blood, the Eucharist. He gave us that gift freely while He was on earth. He was actually preparing us for the time when He would not be with us physically. At Capharnaum He taught us: “I Myself am the living bread, come down from Heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he shall live forever; the bread I will give is My Flesh, for the life of the world. [1]”And then on Holy Thursday evening, in the upper room in Jeerusalem, He handed each of the Apostles bread, blessed and broken. “Then taking bread and giving thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying: ‘This is My Body to be given for you. Do this as a remembrance of Me.' He did the same with the cup after eating, saying as He did so: ‘This Cup is the New Covenant in My Blood which will be shed for you. Truly I say to you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the Kingdom of God.[2]”On Easter Sunday, after He had risen from the dead, and appeared to the Apostles in the Upper Room, Our Lord Jesus walked with two disciples who were returning home to Emmaus, thinking that Jesus was dead as was His movement. Jesus walked alongside of them, although they did not recognize Him as being Jesus. He spoke softly but firmly to them. He explained that Jesus had to do what He did to fulfill scripture. He quoted the scripture passages which affirmed what He was saying. When they arrived at Emmaus, He kept going, as if He were continuing on His journey. They pleaded with Him to stay with them. “Stay with us; it is nearly evening – the day is practically spent. So He went in to stay with them. When He had seated Himself with them to eat, He took bread, pronounced the blessing, then broke the bread and began to distribute it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; whereupon He vanished from their sight. They said to one another, ‘Were our hearts not burning inside us as He talked on the road explained the Scriptures to us?”[3] But they recognized Him in the breaking of the bread, the Eucharist. Our belief in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist has been the binding force and the cause of great struggle for Christians since the beginning. Down through the centuries, Saints and Holy People have shed their blood to defend the Eucharist. The first who comes to mind, a Saint of the early Church is St. Ignatius of Antioch, who as he was being dragged off to Rome to be sacrificed to wild lions in the Coliseum, wrote letters to St. Polycarp asking him to correct the errors being made with reference to the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Another famous story is that of the young Roman boy, St. Tarcisius, who volunteered to bring the BodSupport the show

Pastor Bill: [0:00] Hello and welcome to season 3 episode 65 of The Berean Manifesto; Faith, Hope, and Love for the Modern Christian. I'm Pastor Bill, and I'm joined by Pastor Newms. Pastor Newms: [0:12] Hello I am Pastor Newms. Pastor Bill: [0:14] And we are currently in a time of mourning, we've lost someone that was very special to us. His name was Bloodwing. Pastor Newms: [0:26] Gosh we're going to go here right away. Pastor Bill: [0:29] And he has done broke my heart. Pastor Newms: [0:33] Spoiler alert for if you have. Pastor Bill: [0:35] Handsome Jack Must Die. Pastor Newms: [0:37] Um in Borderlands 1 when we were playing through on Gaming With The Pastors, Pastor Bill or Pastor Thete as he's also known played as a character called Mordecai. Mordecai has a pet named blood Wing. Blood Wing is basically, you could view it as kind of a falconer only it's not a falcon it's something else, and he would throw it out and it would go and attack the enemy and it saved our butts on more than one occasion, well when we get to Borderlands 2 all the characters from Borderlands 1 are NPCs, those NPCs are then just story people as opposed to the people that were playing as, so we're playing through it and I knew it was coming and I couldn't say anything because I knew it would be worse if he knew off the front and, really sad knowing what was going to happen and yes Biggs we will get to that in a moment, um so we start the story everything's going well everything's going good we go into an area where Mordecai is, and he's complaining because Handsome Jack who's the bad guy of Borderlands 2, the villain and they do a very good job of making you hate him through the whole story and it just gets worse and worse this is one of the Pinnacle Point. Here, does some scientific experimentation on blood wing and you spend the fight trying to tranq him and save him and you do and then the moment it happens, Handsome Jack presses a button that blows blood Wings head off, if you were watching which most of you were not because most of you are listening to this as a podcast as opposed to watch, on Twitter live or anything else if you happen to go back and watch that on my twitch there was towards the end of our last stream which was the stream from to, five. There was just silence on Bill side and its really bad because there were some foreshadowing, Bill is like oh man right there is where it says we have to go and there's a red dot which means if we have to fight blood Wing I'm going to get real upset and I was like nah that's not what that is because it wasn't yet, and so he was like okay good and then we move forward and I'm going crap this is gonna suck so bad, and it did and so now, I would fully expect the next week they will be a lot of streaming because Bill wants some hardcore vengeance, against Handsome Jack in so many ways which is really cute to a certain degree because those of us that are hardcore gamers. We've experienced this too many times you get super invested in a character and then it died, I'll never forget there was one game, I cannot remember the name of the game to save my life but it was for the Xbox 360 and it was an RPG and you chose which characters you wanted to play as and I put all my points into this one character and then they just the Overflow points into the others, and in the last boss battle he sacrifices himself and, then I'm stuck with three other characters I can play as that are completely underpowered and, I'll never forget it and, sadly Pastor Bill has just dealt with the loss of a game character that affected him hard and I feel terrible but we will continue playing it, we will complete the story of Borderlands 2 Pastor Bill has been begging me, this afternoon and evening to tell him that we get to kill Handsome Jack to which I have responded and subject story does end, but that is all I said and he is not happy with me but that's okay. Pastor Bill: [4:57] So I found a Borderlands 3 candle today, rose-scented but I didn't buy it it was like 20 bucks that's too much to spend on a. Little candle in the. Pastor Newms: [5:17] Gross so our shirts today with no planning. Pastor Bill: [5:23] Unplanned no planning and we didn't plan that. Pastor Newms: [5:25] Pastor Bill is wearing a shirt that has the Justice League on it and I am wearing a shirt that has Marvel on it, which is pretty much just the Avengers but it's not technically an Avenger shirt so yes, as Biggs pointed out we are sporting the DC versus Marvel which is a Crux of our relationship as best friends for years because Billiam is a DC guy and I am, not so, I believe Marvel is better I will say DC. did a much better job with all of their kids programming than Marvel ever has and they have done a better. Pastor Bill: [6:08] And Marvel's done better with the theatrical then DC ever has. Pastor Newms: [6:11] Marvel's done better with the theatrical and the comics because the best DC Comics were actually done by Dark Horse and Frank Miller and people like that not actually DC Comics in my opinion. Pastor Bill: [6:25] Except for you know the whole Return of the Hulk made-for-tv movie in the 80s where Hulk meets Thor. Pastor Newms: [6:31] That was a bad one that was a bad one that was a real bad. Pastor Bill: [6:36] All right so how was your week pastor newms. Pastor Newms: [6:38] Week was pretty good work is super busy and so that is that is taking up a lot of my time even little more than it's normal, 825 ish time periods which is okay you have weeks that ebb and flow when your salary, and so that's cool played a good amount of games groggy came over this weekend or the best as he is currently logged in on Twitch because, two Twitter accounts. Pastor Bill: [7:12] He's the best around. Pastor Newms: [7:14] So spent today playing a couple of board games. Pastor Bill: [7:18] I reached a little a little too ambitious Lee for that. Pastor Newms: [7:20] You did you did. So they you know it was kind of fun we had some fun I made soup made my potato soup because food with good soup, so yeah it was pretty good how was your week. Pastor Bill: [7:42] Well other than the loss of a friend. Pastor Newms: [7:45] Oh my gosh. Pastor Bill: [7:46] It's been all right there was the snow storm that blew through so there was a lot of time at home, and Gerg didn't have school Thursday and Friday which was nice that meant a couple of mornings that I got to, can I sleep in some except then the littlest one got sick we're pretty sure it's strep throat. Pastor Newms: [8:05] Oh Pastor Bill: [8:09] We're going to take him to the doctor first thing tomorrow morning. Pastor Newms: [8:12] Because he's still not feeling good. Pastor Bill: [8:14] Well he's still got I mean you can visibly see the stuff back there in his mouth with a flashlight so we're going to go see about getting him some, antibiotics or something to try to rush the healing process on that so yeah, so this is what my week has been like which has been, cool I guess other than the sick guy and the you know the death of blood with, um but he always cool having the snow getting to see my littlest one, get snow for the first time at such a young age my my youngest daughter didn't have real snow until she was five and even then it was like half the amount of this snowstorm. Pastor Newms: [9:04] It's Texas snow so it's when it's there's not a lot of it it's not any good. Pastor Bill: [9:09] Yeah but but this was real real real snow like real real like you make a snowball and you throw it and it actually explodes snow not you make is no longer a threat somewhere in there like dude that literally turned into a chunk of ice before it got to me, you literally just pelted me with a big chunk of ice, yeah so that yeah that's how my week was yeah okay so now it's time for getting another pastors, and we are on an odd is that the right word odd. Pastor Newms: [9:45] Are we on and on. Pastor Bill: [9:46] If even if oven. Pastor Newms: [9:50] It's easy evens and odds. Pastor Bill: [9:53] Even some of the right words Wyman Todd. Pastor Newms: [9:54] Yes are you having a stroke. Pastor Bill: [9:58] That happened the other night I could win to go sing the night at song and I couldn't remember the word night and it's the first word of the song and so I was like Nick yeah. Nah. Yeah so that was interesting it was interesting evening okay here we go what characteristic are you most known for. Pastor Newms: [10:29] I don't know, because being known for something means other people know it so I don't know. I don't like that at all. Pastor Bill: [10:50] Yeah you more might say you even hate that. Pastor Newms: [10:58] Very well done very well done very well done good good segment good segment where do you best known for characteristic are you best known for past. Pastor Bill: [11:09] Oh man I'm best known for being overly emotional and unpredictable. And what does your dad say I'm getting old. Is it the gray hair or the Dentures or what is it. Pastor Newms: [11:33] Yes as well as the as well as the way you laugh now is different than it was when you were younger. Pastor Bill: [11:41] I thought our boys left leg. Pastor Newms: [11:42] No you have it like an old man laughter sometimes. Pastor Bill: [12:00] -8 sure yeah. Pastor Newms: [12:03] Haha you're 40 I'm best known on the podcast for three things saying yes that's valid and that comes from before most of y'all ever listened, that that joke came from and then the other thing that I am oh because he's having a stroke because you can't speak. Pastor Bill: [12:22] Stronk. Pastor Newms: [12:24] The other thing I'm very much known for and I joke about this even outside of here which is how far into the podcast, how do I make it without blaming it on the English language. Pastor Bill: [12:38] Mmm. Pastor Newms: [12:39] Or Microsoft for having technical issues I'm blaming it on Microsoft. Pastor Bill: [12:46] I think you're a pretty equal technology blamer you can pretty much pick out the weaknesses in any technology and be like see this is why that's not great this this this this. Pastor Newms: [12:57] Usually it's this is why I hate this particular software. Pastor Bill: [13:03] Trying to avoid that word because we've already covered that aspect. Pastor Newms: [13:06] But I definitely am really good at blaming the English language for things and. Pastor Bill: [13:14] Indubitably. Pastor Newms: [13:15] Even at work often I'm having to blame the English language because the English language just doesn't mean the same thing for people, especially when dealing with software versus heart health care, I'm Healthcare software is very interesting because some of the very same language that's used in healthcare is used in software meaning completely different things and so, there's often communication issues between clinicians provider service people the business and in the markets that we work in and our technical people because the words just mean different things to those people, the same words which other languages doesn't have that issue, you look at German and their words are basically just long explanations for what a thing is so you don't have that issue as much in other languages. Pastor Bill: [14:21] Zener schnitzel well what does that mean it means meat in tube V nurses. Pastor Newms: [14:28] It's it's, not hot dog or sausage because sausage can mean like eight different things here anyway I'm at work I'm becoming known as a food guy. Pastor Bill: [14:46] Oh Pastor Newms: [14:46] Because no not a foodie just a guy that eats food because. Pastor Bill: [14:49] Not a foodie oh. Pastor Newms: [14:52] People will I'm someone who stress eats a lot so during my work day I eat, and so people will be will be in meetings or other things and someone will say something about food and because I love food, I will start talking about food at the other day someone said I've been with the company about four months and just over four months and the one of the people I work with closely a lot because Jonathan didn't you just, derail the last meeting talking about food and I was like look I didn't bring it up I didn't start it. Pastor Bill: [15:33] You mean the meeting we had an hour ago with this same group of people that we talked about this same. Pastor Newms: [15:38] No no it was it was. Pastor Bill: [15:39] There was no need for us to have another meeting. Pastor Newms: [15:41] It was a valid different meaning. Pastor Bill: [15:44] Oh okay. Pastor Newms: [15:45] And that was the funny thing was the only people that were the same on the meeting was me and her, and we're working to different parts of the company but we were the only ones that were the same and so it very much was like yeah I did that. Pastor Bill: [16:01] All right so. Pastor Newms: [16:02] So yeah those are the things I'm known for I guess. Pastor Bill: [16:06] Tonight we're talking about Thomas and I gave you no time to prepare for this I apologize, you asked me yesterday what are we talking about and I said I said I think we're talking about Thomas that's all I told you. Pastor Newms: [16:25] So you can't see it so I've got to tell you you said tonight we're talking about Thomas right. And the best groggy said I doubt it. Pastor Bill: [16:42] When I see it. Pastor Newms: [16:46] Oh you do see it cuz you're in the Discord. Pastor Bill: [16:49] I'm in the Discord yes it was good timing. Pastor Newms: [16:51] So yeah. Pastor Bill: [16:56] That is funny that is comical. Pastor Newms: [16:59] I thought you would enjoy that. Pastor Bill: [17:01] It's a great joke even. Pastor Newms: [17:02] I thought you would enjoy that. Pastor Bill: [17:03] But after tonight you're going to have to stop that. Pastor Newms: [17:06] That is true. Pastor Bill: [17:07] That right there you have stopped. Pastor Newms: [17:09] But I doubt that we're talking about doubting Thomas. Pastor Bill: [17:13] Oh God okay so we're talking about Thomas and yes we and you ask you even ask me which Thomas were talking about and I said the one they call doubting. Pastor Newms: [17:25] Which is an accurate statement. Pastor Bill: [17:27] Yeah that was the only Q I gave you as to the tone of tonight, and what we were you know the one they called outing because I wasn't completely sure myself exactly where this was going, um and Ice us all that out today that's it, probably four hours I think it was just four hours maybe five reading through the commentaries on, John chapter 20 verses 24 through 29, and can assess out where we were going and as I was reading through it I was like oh I see what's going on okay got you, the made perfect sense once I got into the study as to why we were going that direction so let's start with and if you can type this in because on the restream kind of thing is where you type it in that it actually shows up on Facebook, if I type it in a Discord it doesn't actually show up on. Pastor Newms: [18:26] All right so we're going to John. Pastor Bill: [18:28] You're going to John chapter 20 and we're going to read versus 24, through 29 okay and this is the story where Thomas the Apostle now we call them Apostles because they are the 12, disciples who win the Lord said it of My Flesh and drink of my blood they stayed, there were estimated to be about 120 people following Jesus when he gave that teaching, and all of them left except for these 12 people okay so that's criteria number one for being an apostle criteria number two for being an apostle is meeting one-on-one with Christ, after he died descended and then came to Earth to do his post. Resurrection Ministry before he ascended those are the two criteria for apostle Paul, never actually met these criteria even though a lot of people call him the Apostle Paul, um now he did meet Jesus post Ascension but by the strictest definitions of apostle that discounts Paul altogether, John chapter 20 verses 24 through 29, but Thomas called twin now not called twin called Didymus it's a nickname, if you're gonna visit see that see that's the csb I don't often disagree with the csb but when you translate somebody's nickname, into what the words actual definition is I have a problem with that. Pastor Newms: [20:21] Yeah that's a little weird. Pastor Bill: [20:22] Um but Thomas called Didymus. Pastor Newms: [20:25] Although they did put it in quotes. Pastor Bill: [20:27] Yeah they did put it in quotes and then they put a little note at the bottom Greek did he miss tourism. Pastor Newms: [20:35] For all. Pastor Bill: [20:36] One of the twelve was not with them when Jesus came now what he's talking about is Jesus had met with them met with the other 11, on the first day of the previous week, so so the other disciples were telling him we have seen the Lord but he said to them. Sorry, I said to them if I don't see the mark of the nails in his hands put my finger into the mark of the nails and put my hand into his side I will never believe, a week later his disciples were indoors again and Thomas was with them even though the doors were locked Jesus came and stood among them and said, peace be with you then he said to Thomas put your finger here and look at my hands reach out your hand and put it into my side, don't be faithless but belief Thomas responded to him my Lord my God, Jesus said because you have seen me you have believed we're going to talk about punctuation here in a second, because you have seen me you have believed blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe okay. There are some discrepancies between manuscripts and translations on, verse 29 of John chapter 20 is supposed to be punctuated in the King James it says because you have seen me, you have believed semicolon, blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe, in the csb it is because you have seen me, you have believed period blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe in some manuscripts The Ordering of the words, lead a good amount of Scholars to believe this statement was, because you have seen me have you believed question mark. Pastor Newms: [22:48] Which is what the Nasby sorry go ahead. Pastor Bill: [22:50] Sort of those yeah blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe. Pastor Newms: [22:56] And that's what the Nasby shows. Pastor Bill: [23:00] Because there are some manuscripts in a good amount of Scholars have believed that was the intended punctuation now to be fair again you know. Pastor Newms: [23:09] To be fair. Pastor Bill: [23:11] There was no punctuation in the Greek, it was all in the way that the wording was placed and the way that you know it was the context clues that's where we get the punctuation for our English translations they're not actually there in, the Greek manuscripts so kind of have to guess you know was this a question was this a decorative, now if it was an exclamatory that was easy they just wrote the word or the statement twice, so like when Jesus is on the cross and he says Eloi Eloi, he probably only actually said that once but he probably screamed it yelled it you know with with much Gusto and they were probably just indicating that should be an exclamation point. Pastor Newms: [23:59] Yeah. Pastor Bill: [24:03] Okay, so this is a story where we get the idea of doubting Thomas right he doubted and that's why he didn't have as much Faith as the other Apostles and that's why he, mmm he was hurting from the trauma of what happened and that's why and on and on and on and on okay, and so we hear this rhetoric about all the other Apostles are blessed and you're blessed to because you didn't have to see it, you've just taken it on faith but real quick let's go back to Luke, if you can type this into the restream client for me Luke chapter 24 and we're going to be reading verses 36 through 40 3, and Luke actually tells us what happened seven days earlier when Jesus appeared to the eleven, starting in verse 36 as they were saying these things he himself stood in their midst he said to them peace to you but they were startled and terrified and thought they were seeing a ghost. They doubted that he was really the resurrected Christ. Pastor Newms: [25:29] Yeah. Pastor Bill: [25:32] Why are you troubled he asked them and why do doubts arise in your hearts look at my hands and my feet that it is I myself, touch me and see because the ghost does not have Flesh and Bones as you can see I have. Having said this he showed them his hands and feet while they still were amazed and in disbelief because of their Joy, he asked them do you have anything to eat so they gave him a piece of a broiled fish and he took it and ate it in their presence so going back to John. After knowing what happened seven days earlier when we read, so the other disciples were telling him we've seen the Lord. It's not that they walked up and said we've seen the Lord they walked up and said, we were there we were hiding from the Jews we were about to have dinner we had this broiled fish this Spirit showed up we were afraid of it we weren't sure what was going on it turned out to be Jesus he showed us the holes in his hands the hole in his side the holes in his feet he had us touch him and he is risen and Thomas replies and says until, see and touch. I can't believe that. It's not that he doubted that the resurrection happened or was going to happen. But he looked at the other disciples and he said prove it prove it. So the next time they're up there hiding Thomas is like I'm gonna be there. That's not a doubt that's faith in action. Next time we're next time they're doing that I'm gonna be there I'm gonna be there I'm ready to see, so we can be proved to me Jesus is up put your finger here look at my hands reach out your hand put it in my side don't be faithless but belief. Don't be faithless but believe that's not an accusation or a condemnation, that's a reach your hand out and lifting someone up to you. There's no reason for you to not believe it because it's true here's your evidence it's true all right, um Pastor Newms: [28:29] Now a quick question because I know how much we prepare for this often are you going to touch on the two other times that Thomas is really talked about. Pastor Bill: [28:43] I wasn't gonna but if you'd like to you go for it. Pastor Newms: [28:45] I would so you know we call him doubting Thomas we push that narrative because of this particular story but there are two main times that Thomas is talked about in, actually in John also that I, really shows us also part of who Thomas was and how Thomas operated, and wasn't doubting so in I'll type it John 11, five through sixteen and I'm not going to read it. Pastor Bill: [29:21] So this is Lazarus. Pastor Newms: [29:23] I'm not going to read it verbatim I'm just going to kind of, give you the thing so that way we have time to discuss the rest of the points but in there geez Lazarus is dead and they're like. Pastor Bill: [29:39] Jesus and his followers are in hiding. Pastor Newms: [29:44] They're not there and Jesus is like okay let's go to Judah and the disciples are like whoa will will will. Pastor Bill: [29:51] Where they where he's wanted Dead. Pastor Newms: [29:52] Yeah they're like the disciples are like whoa. Pastor Bill: [29:54] Whoa bro. Pastor Newms: [29:56] Just now the Jews tried to Stone you are why are we going to go back we're going to get stoned to which Jesus gives them an answer you know it's a good answer. Pastor Bill: [30:09] Well he kind of your concerns are trivial. Pastor Newms: [30:11] He gets on to him yeah it's like you don't matter our friends asleep but we got to go wake him up which I love. Pastor Bill: [30:16] Yeah we got better things to do than worry about stonings. Pastor Newms: [30:21] And then Thomas called the twin said to the fellow disciples let us go too so we can die with him. Pastor Bill: [30:29] So we can die with her Jesus gonna go get some we're gonna go to. Pastor Newms: [30:33] Like the disciples like whoa whoa whoa whoa Jesus they're going to try to kill you dude like Homie we can't do the and Thomas is like I'm down let's go so Thomas was, I do this is terrible this is terrible I can't believe my mind even when here but Thomas is Hardcore right here a ride-or-die. Pastor Bill: [30:56] Yeah he's a ride or die man. Pastor Newms: [30:57] Like and as a terrible euphemism for this but hey you know. Pastor Bill: [31:02] It really is but it's the it's the sentiment there for sure. Pastor Newms: [31:05] Yeah and then when we look at the Last Supper which is in John 14, one through seven with so again still John. The Lord's talking about hey I'm going to, I'm going and then I'm coming again and he's given the whole the whole aspect and Thomas is like Lord we don't we don't know what where are you going how do we know the way like how can we follow you, basically and Jesus is like well I'm the way the truth the life no one comes to the father except through me, we've covered that you know in Christian world forever if you know me you'll also know my father from now from now on you do know him and have seen him and then. Because of that then Phillip is just like show us the father that's enough for us you know and so Thomas is question there, wasn't we, it was again it was him being literally ride or die like okay where we going how we going to get there I'm there with you we got this no problems this is not an issue we're down and. Pastor Bill: [32:33] He was he was basically imma go where you go but if you leave I'm on need a new Navigator because you're the Navigator. Pastor Newms: [32:41] Yeah I'm only following you how do I know who to follow if it's not you. Pastor Bill: [32:46] If you leave. Pastor Newms: [32:47] Literally asking God asking Jesus okay, we get it you got to die we understand you're the Messiah you're going to you're here to save us your great sacrifice has no questions on any of that never had to be gotten on 24, other things like certain Apostles had to like you know becoming the main person who you know, influenced all of church history but denied Christ three times and had, to have Jesus answered the same question like six times so you know we don't see that with Thomas Thomas is like I'm here it's so in my mind. Pastor Bill: [33:33] We opened his mouth when he have something to say. Pastor Newms: [33:36] Yeah in my mind. Pastor Bill: [33:38] It's the only shows up twice. Pastor Newms: [33:41] In my mind, through his his question of I don't believe you is not I don't believe God I don't believe Jesus in this it's I do. Pastor Bill: [33:57] I don't believe I don't believe he's not going to resurrect I don't believe your. Pastor Newms: [34:01] I don't trust you, he was straight so yeah he doubted someone but it wasn't Jesus he had no problem following Jesus literally to the end and then asking him who's next, who do we follow When You're Gone had no problem with that had no problem with the understanding that he was going to go and then he was going to come, no problems he doesn't ask again in these passages that we see. Pastor Bill: [34:31] He definitely had this strong understanding of what was going on we see this idea of let's just go die with him, carried out in Paul's teachings you know for me, to live is Christ to die is gain you see this played out and then he's got this full where do we go and then you see this played out again where Jesus says well who do you say that I am and, and Peter asked we'll where else would we go well this is an idea that. Thomas has been holding onto for a while here Peter you're just now getting here welcome to the party. And then if you'll type in first John chapter 4 verse 1 we have this another idea where, Thomas says I don't believe you, and then we see this play out again first John 4:1 dear friends do not believe every Spirit but test the spirits to see if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world right so even these people that he knew, had been walking with Jesus with him even though they had this history he looked at them and said I'm gonna need. You to prove the word that you just brought me, prove it okay and so we're kind of on the same topic here but we're pivoting slightly, and let's talk about out deconstruction. Pastor Newms: [36:18] Mmm. Pastor Bill: [36:22] Thomas and deconstruction Thomas said prove it. And waited for the only evidence that he knew was available and how did he know that evidence was available, because they came to me and said we saw him we touched him, he had the holes it was all there and Thomas said I ain't going to believe you until I see evidence of that. Right now we have this whole deconstruction movement, yes I believe it is a movement I believe personally I believe that the same thing that God did through John the Baptist, where he called people to repentance to make way for a move of the Lord and this case the arrival of the Lord, is the same thing God's doing now in the hearts and minds of all these people that are being pulled away from, the religious status quo that's been set up right. And you see all these videos where these pastors are talking down about deconstruction and they're talking bad about deconstructionist and the railing hard on all these things and then you see all these videos by the JC constructionists and when they're not retelling and reliving the trauma, that they feel led them to deconstruction they're telling stories of deeper faith, not all of them some of them deconstruct and they realize they don't believe, which we've already talked about that I think it's better to deconstruct and believe you and find out you don't believe now, then to fool yourself into believing your whole life that you had faith and it having that moment that Jesus talks about where where you know you're like God I did cast out demons in your name I did miniature name and Jesus goes, but I never knew you we never had a relationship better to find that out now than then. Pastor Newms: [38:40] Yeah because that gives that still gives you that time for repentance later that time to find God again. Pastor Bill: [38:48] I celebrate that you have that time, um and then you have these other people that deconstruct and they find this deeper more meaningful relationship with the Lord and a deeper version of Faith than they ever had in the church, and they're more peace and they're more connected with God and there are more love than more biblical Christians because of it, and so I thought it would be nice, to talk about it and it's less talk about it because. You know between us me and you Pastor newms and a lot of people don't know that part of my calling I feel like is to call out the modern Church, call it out for not being this not living up to this. Pastor Newms: [39:42] You definitely do that. Pastor Bill: [39:45] That's part I feel like it's part of my calling and to emphasize faith hope and love to love people love people call out God's church to where it's supposed to be, and love those people at the same time I feel like that's where I am okay so, I made a list of the things that I believe are inspiring deconstruction. From a Biblical point of view. Okay I believe that people are deconstructing because the modern Church, has brought a message of Jesus and faith and the Bible and then failed, to look after orphans and widows like we're told to do in James 1:27 failed, to love God. All of their hearts that have chose children politics in some cases instead and failed to love our neighbor as ourself and chosen lots of other reasons instead, as we're told in Mark chapter 12 and again in Matthew I don't remember what chapter is there Dave the modern church has failed, to submit to governmental authorities President Biden is your president, Romans chapter 13 tells us to submit to governmental authorities and you can argue all day long, that when Paul wrote Romans he didn't mean governmental authorities but go back and reread it because it talks about this Authority being armed, physically armed to physically protect you and to physically punished, those who are evil doers and that's not the church, the church is not physically armed to punish evildoers that's governments that's governmental Authority. Um this one's a long this is out of Romans chapter 12 the modern church has failed to love without hypocrisy failed to detest evil, failed to outdo each other in showing honor, failed to rejoice in Hope failed in being patient in Affliction sales in pursuing Hospitality failed in blessing people that persecute them, sailed and rejoicing with people who Rejoice failed in Weeping with people who we, failed in living in harmony with others failed and being humble instead of proud failed and not repaying evil for evil fails and what I'm doing is what it in doing what is Honorable, in everyone's eyes failed at living in peace with everyone failed and not avenging themselves, failed at feeding their enemies when they're hungry or giving them something to drink when they're thirsty failed at combating evil with good instead of, combating evil with evil the modern church has failed to remember that there is faith there is hope and there is love, greatest of those is love. And I believe biblically these are why people are deconstructing because the modern Church doesn't look like this anymore. Pastor Newms: [43:18] Yeah and I think a lot of it has to do with and I want to be clear to people who might not know, when we say the modern church we don't mean every modern church we mean the church as a whole. Pastor Bill: [43:35] The church we're all guilty all of us. Pastor Newms: [43:38] Exactly the. Pastor Bill: [43:39] A church emulation Christians as a whole we are all guilty because we have failed to hold each other accountable I'm including myself, as a as a Christian as a pastor I've failed to do my part to hold other pastors and other Christians accountable in these areas, until recently no more I will no longer be that quiet voice I'm calling them out I'm calling out we need to love, I mean the. Pastor Newms: [44:09] Yeah. Pastor Bill: [44:10] Is the modern Church all of us all believers. Pastor Newms: [44:14] So there are some that are doing good in some of these aspects, and some of them are so definitely not calling out every individual for every one of these of course because that would be crazy. Pastor Bill: [44:37] And it's impossible to do all of these you would need a you would need a budget the size of I was about to say the name of a church you would need the budget a budget the size of the US government. Pastor Newms: [44:51] To fully. Pastor Bill: [44:51] To do all of these. Pastor Newms: [44:53] But the point is we should be trying to continue there's a lot of churches out there that have. And when I say church is there's a lot of denominations out there that only focused on themselves. Pastor Bill: [45:12] And congregations to. Pastor Newms: [45:13] And congregations that only funded themselves only funded people that came out of them only funded people that worked for them directly and then you've got. Pastor Bill: [45:25] There's like there's a youth pastors of Pastor in Oklahoma on Tick Tock have used to be a youth pastor and he quit because they were saying things to him like, you need to stop hanging out at the YMCA and to administer to those black boys, and only focus on the children of the tithers that come to this church. Pastor Newms: [45:48] And in situations there's a lot of churches now that are working with food pantries that are secular organizations but they're filling the need they can't because they already have the setup. Pastor Bill: [46:03] Why we promote and raise try to raise funds for I personally raise funds for but anyway for the Trevor Project, secular organization lgp lgbtq+ youth can call in for free and get support and help and and help through those issues that they're having emotionally and with fitting in with their environment and all of the pressure they have coming against them and that's literally, the highest at-risk group for suicide in the United States. And so many Christians are just turning a blind eye to it if you truly believe, hey you're supposed to be spreading faith and bringing people to Christ why would you ignore an organization. Helps people live longer and has a reach that you don't have, to literally save people's lives so they have a chance of salvation. Pastor Newms: [47:11] And you know that's such a big aspect of why. We support organizations like that in situations like that because without a chance, find repentance sadly we know how that ends and so we've got to increase, people's chances to give everyone a shot and that means making sure children aren't starving to death that means making sure people are loved, and and you know sadly not, as you said Bill not every church can do everything but if every Church truly followed the New Testament teachings of taking care of the community we wouldn't have a lot of the issues that we do, Countrywide and worldwide if if churches and Christians tie. Pastor Bill: [48:24] I'm so I'm so I'm so tired of hearing Christians who are steeped in politics complaining about welfare. And then not supporting food banks Ike, don't I just don't get that like if you don't want to pay taxes to support welfare then do your part to change that for the future, raise awareness about food bags raise awareness about organizations that help people with school supplies and and shoes and fill in the blanks where their jobs can't, if you're really that worried about being charged taxes to help people survive, raise awareness for programs that do that so that welfare can be taken out of the equation in the future. Pastor Newms: [49:29] And the failures of the church, is what caused the government to need to step in if the church had not. Not been doing what they were supposed to be doing and taking care of widows and orphans and taking care of single parent families and taking care of you know we wouldn't have needed, a lot of the government programs that the country needs because, we can't and sadly as a quote-unquote and I say quote unquote very strongly Christian Nation, we forsake a lot of the values that are taught in the New Testament, myself I don't like a lot of socialistic programs and the reason I don't like them is not because I think they're wrong, I don't like them because our government Miss manages them and the people who truly need help aren't getting it. So that's what I don't like so that's why a lot of times like, similar I said someone I don't like socialistic programs and they're like oh we don't care about this I was like no I do I just think our government would mess it up, I look at how the government treats veterans and then terrifies me for them to to be in charge of my health care I see how they treat, disabled people on disability and how hard it is to get disability and how hard it is to be able to be funded when you can't work and how much they reject and then it's like well. What are they going to do if I get to that point like so for me that's my issue with our social social programs is they don't do enough for the correct reasons because. Pastor Bill: [51:43] And every but but every church has to have a pretty new Fountain out front never church has to have new carpeting in the foyer and every church has to have, as much money as they ditch the church in the United States brings in, and then spins within its own four walls, if that money was pulled together in cooperation with all believers we could get rid of welfare, because we could the church could be meeting those needs. Pastor Newms: [52:18] And. Pastor Bill: [52:20] Our church buildings would go to crap but God never wanted temples he wanted her heart. Pastor Newms: [52:29] And. Pastor Bill: [52:30] Why are we spending so much money and making temples. Pastor Newms: [52:34] And it's definitely something that and even in that we as Christians individuals. Are failing in so many ways because so often we're not given to our churches and we're not we're only giving to our government and. Pastor Bill: [52:59] We're not even get most of those aren't even giving the ten percent that, the Bible you know in Malachi says you know you should dedicate this part to God most of those aren't even doing that when I even given that 10% of the church. Pastor Newms: [53:16] And and it definitely and this is in no way shape form or idea or thing of saying give us money because, it's not just to be clear on that we are a 501 c 3 we are a church we are we do give two, Ministry other Ministries and other things, the aspect that we're talking about is as a whole we as Christians and we as the church have to step up and stop waiting on someone else to fix the issues. Pastor Bill: [54:02] It's the sitting back and watching it's created a culture, where the church doesn't look like this anymore and so people are understandably and with my support questioning what the church has taught them. And not always finding the answers here and deciding I don't believe that I think I'm going to be an atheist now. Looks like I said. Better now than later. But if your goal is truly the gospel and making disciples and and spreading the word and loving like Jesus loved. It's one of the work that needs to be done a lot of renovation and I don't mean to the to the fellowship hall at your local congregations. Unless you're holding daily dinners they're feeding the hungry and the loss and the homeless and then by golly upgrade them chairs go for it you're doing it right you're doing something right. Pastor Newms: [55:35] There are definitely times where it is needed if your buildings are being used for outreach make sure they look at least good. Pastor Bill: [55:43] But if your buildings are just an echo chamber to pay yourselves on the back. And you're not looking after orphans and widows you're not loving the neighborhood around you and you're not fulfilling Romans chapter 12 or First Corinthians 13. I just I can't I can't with you I just. I'm sorry I have no words I can't play Kate and I can't sugarcoat this it's just not right. So there you go there's my take on Thomas. A short recording meant to emphasize how vital receiving Holy Communion is for Orthodox Christians. St. Nicodemus, the great 18th century ascetic of the Holy Mountain, draws upon Scripture, the Fathers, and the Canons of the Church to persuade us that in order to have life in Christ, true life, we must receive the Eucharist, and often. Otherwise, we give openings to the devil and eventually may fall from the Church. Fr. Michael Pomazansky was a priest in Russia and the United States and professor at Holy Trinity Seminary in New York. In Orthodox Dogmatic Theology, he explains the “The Necessity and Saving Nature of Communion of the Holy Mysteries” by drawing on Christ's teaching in John 6 and adding emphasis and commentary. This book was used as a textbook at the Seminary and was first translated into English by Fr. Seraphim Rose.“Verily, Verily, I say unto you, except ye eat the Flesh of the Son of Man, and drink His Blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth My Flesh, and drinketh My Blood, hath eternal life” (John 6:53-54).If you are listening to this and have not recently received the Precious Body and Blood of Christ, make a plan to go to Confession and then receive Holy Communion. This is medicine of immortality. This week we're discussing every album by the rabid DMX. We scheduled this episode immediately after the tragic death of DMX (aka Earl Simmons), so this is what we consider timely. Most people should be familiar with DMX simply because his music has been featured in every single film since 1998. For everyone else, he barked a lot.Closing track: “Hood Blues” from Exodus (2021)Check out our episode playlists on Spotify!https://open.spotify.com/user/motherpuncherincJoin our Patreon to jump the line when requesting an artist, as well as get bonus episodes, early access to shows, and more!https://www.patreon.com/everyalbumeverMerch available now!https://pandermonkey.creator-spring.com/Instagram:Follow Mike @pandermonkey for show clips, Twitch clips, and original musicFollow Alex @motherpuncherMike's Picks:Grand Champ (2003) — Best Album, Personal Favorite…And Then There Was X (1999) — Worst Album, Least FavoriteAlex's Picks:…And Then There Was X (1999) — Best AlbumIt's Dark and Hell is Hot (1998) — Personal FavoriteYear of the Dog… Again (2006) — Worst Album, Least FavoriteAlbums we discussed this episode…It's Dark and Hell is Hot (1998)Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood (1998)…And Then There Was X (1999)The Great Depression (2001)Grand Champ (2003)Year of the Dog… Again (2006)Undisputed (2012)Exodus (2021)

Thanks for listening! Besproken onderwerpen & projecten: Remembering DMX DMX - It's Dark and Hell Is Hot DMX - Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood DMX - ...And Then There Was X Special thanks naar Sebio voor de productie van de intro. Pilot Talk word gehost door Elton, met Marnix en Lahmar. Wij produceren onszelf en je kunt ons vinden en bereiken op Instagram/Twitter via @pilottalknl of mailen op pilottalknl@gmail.com

The Hip Hop culture has lost another icon. Tune in to celebrate the life of a Hip Hop legend, known for his gritty-style and dark, personal lyrics along with his electrifying persona. In the late 90's, DMX was on top of the world: a world superstar. With a long lustrous career, DMX aka Earl Simmons, was able to accomplish things that many artists dream of doing. With classics like It's Dark and Hell is Hot and Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood, X was also able to flourish in cinema. Rest in power DMX, thank you for your stamp in Hip Hop.Hip Hop Leaf: MCLike the pod? DMX, the gravel-voiced rapper and actor who topped the charts with tracks including "Party Up" and "X Gon' Give It to Ya," has died at age 50, his family said Friday in a statement. The rapper, whose real name was Earl Simmons, had a heart attack on April 2, according to his lawyer, Murray Richman. He was immediately hospitalized in grave condition. "Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end," his family said in the statement. "He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him." White Plains Hospital confirmed that DMX passed away "peacefully with family present after suffering a catastrophic cardiac arrest." DMX broke onto the rap scene in 1998 with his first studio album, "It's Dark and Hell Is Hot." The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, powered by hits such as "Ruff Ryders' Anthem," "Get At Me Dog" and "Stop Being Greedy." He achieved more success with the albums "...And Then There Was X," "Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood," "The Great Depression" and "Grand Champ" — all of which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart. DMX released seven albums and earned three Grammy nominations. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thes3podcast/message
Institution of the Eucharist MeditationThe Fifth Luminous MysteryThe Institution of the EucharistIn John 6:51, while Jesus was teaching the Jews at the synagogue in Capharnaum, He gave us the first Eucharistic Doctrine. He called Himself “The Bread of Life”.“I Myself am the Living Bread come down from heaven. If anyone eats this bread, he shall live forever; the bread I will give is My Flesh, for the life of the world.’At this the Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, ‘How can he give us his flesh to eat?’ Thereupon Jesus said to them:‘Let Me solemnly assure you, if you do not eat the Flesh of the Son of Man and drink His Blood, you have no life in you.’”After saying this, He lost most of His followers. They couldn’t live with this statement. Jesus, God-Man, had to have known what would happen. In His humanness, He knew what He should do. But He knew what He had to do. It would have been so much easier for Him to call them all back, and say “Wait a minute. I wasn’t serious. I was just testing you.” But He was serious. He couldn’t compromise the truth. He knew the tremendous task He had to accomplish, and the short time available to get it done. If this controversial statement were not true, as so many would have us believe, why did He risk all that He had accomplished? Why was He not willing to back down from it? Even after they questioned Him on it, saying, “This sort of talk is hard to endure. How can anyone take it seriously?”, His comment was “Does it shake your faith?”Jesus was so firm on this point that He was even willing to lose the Apostles. This was the moment of decision for them. He asked the twelve apostles, “Will you leave Me also?” Peter said, “Where are we to go ? You have the words of everlasting life?”From Capharnaum to the Cenacle, the cycle is completed. On Holy Thursday evening, in the Upper Room at the Last Supper, we were given the gift, the everlasting gift of the Flesh and Blood of Jesus. We can go to any of the Synoptic Gospel writers. We will quote from St. Luke. In Luke 22:19, we read:“Then taking bread and giving thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying: ‘This is My Body to be given for you. Do this as a remembrance of Me.’ He did the same with the cup after eating, saying as He did so: ‘This cup is the New Covenant in My Blood, which will be shed for you.” It was after this that Judas left the room to complete his plan for betrayal. This Eucharistic Doctrine was repeated innumerable times by the three Synoptic Gospel writers, as well as St. John, and St. Paul. It was stressed more than any teaching in Christ’s ministry. From the early days of the Apostles, after the Resurrection of Our Lord, they were faithful to the Lord’s Command. It is written:“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teachings and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers...Day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they partook of food with glad and generous hearts.”Continued hereSupport the show (https://bobandpennylord.store/pages/we-need-your-help)

Childhood & Early Life: Born Marshall Bruce Mathers III in St. Joseph, Missouri, in 1972, to parents who were members of a band that used to perform at the hotel 'Ramada Inns.' He grew up in a predominantly black neighbourhood, where he was often bullied. As a child he showed affinity toward comics and music, particularly rapping. He had a difficult childhood and he was never on good terms with his mother. He was, however, close to her half-brother, Ronnie. Marshall's education suffered as a result of constant troubles with his mom and he dropped-out of 'Lincoln High School,' when he was seventeen. 109. Career: When Marshall was fourteen years old, he started rapping and attenditg contetst with his friend DeShaun Dupree Holton, who later became famous as rapper Proof. The two friends formed their own group called 'D12' or 'The Dirty Dozen,' in 1996. Also in 1996, Eminem (@16) brought out his first album titled 'Infinite.' The album was recorded under the banner of 'FBT Productions,' and included songs that spoke about the struggles he faced after the birth of his daughter, at a time when he was financially unstable. His financial condition had worsened and by 1997, he was forced to live in his mother's house with his family. During this time, to let go of the frustration building inside him, he created an anti-social alter-ego named 'Slim Shady.' He even recorded his first extended play by the same name in the same year. 110. After he was fired from his job and evicted from his home, Eminem went to Los Angeles to compete in the 1997 Rap Olympics, an annual, nationwide battle rap competition. He placed second, and an Interscope Records intern in attendance called asked Eminem for a copy of the Slim Shady EP, which was then sent to company CEO Jimmy Iovine. Iovine played the tape for record producer Dr. Dre, who recalled sayingd, "In my entire career in the music industry, I have never found anything from a demo tape or a CD. When Jimmy played this, I said, 'Find him. Now.'" Although Dre's friends criticized him for hiring a white rapper, he was confident in his decision: "I don't give a fuck if you're purple; if you can kick it, I'm working with you." 111. In February 1999, Dr. Dre helped Eminem release an album titled 'The Slim Shady LP,' which immediately catapulted him to fame. With hits like 'My Name Is,' '97 Bonnie and Clyde,' and 'Guilty Conscience,' it was one of the most successful albums of the year. 112. Movie Scene: The Best Man 113. Harper Stewart (Taye Diggs), a commitment-shy writer and the best man at the wedding of Lance (Morris Chestnut) and Mia (Monica Calhoun), is nervous-and with good reason. His steamy new novel hits bookstores soon, and when his friends finally read it he knows they will notice more than just a passing resemblance to the characters depicted in the book. 114. Director: Malcolm D. Lee, Debut film [Undercover Brother (2002), Roll Bounce (2005), Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins (2008), Soul Men (2008), Scary Movie 5 (2013), The Best Man Holiday (2013), Girls Trip (2017), and Night School (2018)] 115. Cast: Taye Diggs, Nia Long, Morris Chestnut, Harold Perrineau, Terance Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Monica Calhoun, Melissa De Sousa, Terrence Howard, Regina Hall [*Film Debut] 116. 'The Best Man': A Joyous Occasion [By Lonnae O'Neal Parker Washington Post Staff Writer, Oct 1999] 117. This smart debut from filmmaker Malcolm D. Lee, cousin to the film's producer, Spike, centers around a group of old friends who reunite in New York for a wedding. Tapping into the Zeitgeist of young black professionals starving to see themselves on film, it hits all the right cultural touchstones: from BET to Stevie Wonder, Chubb Rock to bid whist. Although the film is produced by Spike Lee, don't expect racial politics. And while comparisons to another black wedding-themed movie starring Taye Diggs, "The Wood," are bound to come up, resist. 118. James Berardinelli - Reelviews 119. The Best Man is not what it initially seems to be. Despite starting out with all the earmarks of a fairly ordinary romantic comedy, the project develops into a surprisingly effective look at a man's quest for rebirth after events topple him from a pedestal of arrogance. And, while there are plenty of laughs to be had, The Best Man functions better as a light drama than a straight comedy, with several scenes packing a punch because they're played straight. The film is the directorial debut of Malcolm D. Lee (Spike's cousin), who may have gotten this chance because of family connections but shows enough promise to earn further opportunities on his own. 120. The Best Man (1999) - 1½ Stars [Reviewed by Dustin Putman, October 1999] 121. As with 1997's melodramatic, corny "Soul Food," and last summer's "The Wood," which also starred Diggs in a story set around a wedding(!), "The Best Man" aspires to be something more than it actually is. Kudos to Lee for trying his hand at a more knowledgeable picture that all audiences (not just African-Americans) might enjoy, but he also gets more than his share of debits for its severely flawed treatment. At over two hours in length, "The Best Man" thankfully never overstays its welcome and goes by fairly fast, but by the time the Electric Slide was carried out by everyone at the wedding reception over the end credits, I realized that the actors deserved far better. As is, the conclusion plays like an excuse for each of the cast members to give themselves a pat on the back, when they really didn't earn that pat to begin with. 122. Question: DW vs. SLJ? 130. Television Scene: 131. 18 Black Sitcoms of the '90s That Changed the Game: Published Jan 24, 2020 - By Damarys Ocaña Perez 132. Black sitcoms have been popular since classics like Good Times, The Jeffersons, and Sanford and Son hit television screens nationwide in the '70s. But it wasn't until The Cosby Show became a ratings juggernaut in the mid '80s that networks finally saw the potential in investing heavily in sitcoms with black leads. 133. And so the '90s became a decade in which more black sitcoms than ever made it onto TV 134. Naturally, given the success of The Cosby Show, a lot of shows that followed featured families. But they didn't just simply copy the formula. 135. The lives of younger people took center stage as well in the '90s. So, instead of being the token black friend within the larger context of a show, black teens, college students, 20-something professionals became the vehicle for funny and even poignant stories. 136. The '90s turned hugely talented black comedians and actors into stars who remain household names to this day, and it goes to show the impact that being given a seat at the table and a voice on prime time television can accomplish. 137. Here are 18 black '90s sitcoms that we love do this day for the impact they had on our lives then and now. 138. 'A Different World' (1987-1993): One of the show's major accomplishments was being among the first to tackle real issues like date rape, racism, and HIV, things that the Cosby Show had avoided. A Different World is the gem that created a bridge to the '90s black sitcom boom. 139. 'Family Matters' (1989-1997): The longest-running sitcom about a black family (it spanned nine seasons to The Cosby Show's eight), Family Matters was not only funny -- especially after introducing super-nerd Urkel -- but managed to balance big laughs with more serious moments. There were episodes that centered around civil rights history and police mistreatment of young black men, and a wide-ranging audience got to see them, thanks to the show's across-the-board popularity. 140. 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' (1990-1996): Nestled between Will Smith's rapping days and his status as one of the world's most bankable A-list movie stars was The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, which made his a household name and produced one of the longest-running fan debates in TV history on which of the two actresses who played Aunt Viv was the best one. 141. 'Roc' (1991-1994): Before Charles S. Dutton went on to win three Emmys for his work on other shows, he starred in this underrated and brief series that was fairly typical sitcom until the second season, which aired each episode live. Roc was a treat because Dutton and several of the other cast members were trained stage actors. 142. 'Martin' (1992-1997): Martin Lawrence was all edge when he wasn't doing Martin. (One of his stand-up specials was slapped with an NC-17 rating, and he was banned from Saturday Night Live for delivering a hilariously raunchy monologue.) That makes it all the more interesting that on the show Martin, he played a lovably manic man-boy. We lost count of how many characters Martin played on the show (in disguise), each one of them hilarious in their own specific way. 143. 'Hangin' With Mr. Cooper' (1992-1997): This sitcom had a great cast, including comedian Raven-Symoné, Holly Robinson Peete, and Mark Curry. 144. 'Living Single' (1993-1998): The show marked the first time that we saw young black women portrayed as professionals and given well-rounded personalities, have healthy relationships, and pave the way for black female-centered shows - nlike Girlfriends and Insecure. 145. 'Sister, Sister' (1994-1999): There are so many reasons why we loved Sister,Sister, and one of them was that the show would occasionally break the fourth wall and talk directly to the audience, which made us feel part of the action. But the show also had layers that deepened its story: The girls had been the product of an interracial relationship between a black mom and a white dad who never had the chance to marry before being separated in tragic circumstances. 146. 'In The House' (1995-1999): It wasn't the world's best sitcom, but hey, LL Cool J has always been a snack. 147. 'The Parent 'Hood' (1995-1999): One of the four original Wednesday night shows that helped launched the WB (The Wayans Bros was another), what sets the show apart are the whimsical fantasy sequences that the dad dreams up to help him solve family issues in a creative and unexpected way. 148. 'The Wayans Bros.' (1995-1999): In Living Color, it's not, but this sitcom from younger Wayans siblings Shawn and Marlon is still simple fun that doesn't require too many brain cells -- and that can be a good thing. 149. 'Moesha' (1996-2001): Moesha centered around a black teenager diving into deeper explorations of all kinds of relationships and left cliffhangers in several story lines dangling when it was canceled. 150. 'The Jamie Foxx Show' (1996-2001): Fresh off the groundbreaking comedy sketch show In Living Color and before he becoming an movie star, Jamie Foxx starred as an aspiring actor who works at his relatives' hotel. 151. 'Kenan & Kel' (1996-2000): Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell were Nickelodeon's first black sitcom stars, having landed their own show when producers saw them joking around on the set of All That when they were series regulars. 152. 'The Steve Harvey Show' (1996-2002): A big highlight is the constant guest star roster that's a who's who of black TV stars and musicians -- like Snoop Dogg, Diddy, Kim Fields, and Ja’Net DuBois of the classic sitcom Good Times. 153. 'The Hughleys' (1998-2002): Two decades before Black-ish tackled a similar premise, The Hughleys featured a family that lives in a predominantly white neighborhood. 154. 'The Famous Jett Jackson' (1998-2001): This show had just 65 episodes but has a special place in our hearts as the first Disney Channel show to feature a black actor as the lead. The immensely talented and magnetic Lee Thompson Young starred as Jett Jackson, a kid who tries to live a normal life when he's not filming. Thompson tragically died at age 29, after struggling with bipolar disorder and depression, but the heartwarming show lives on. 155. 'The Parkers' (1999-2004): It's no surprise that one of the most down-to-earth black sitcoms from the '90s starred Mo'Nique as a single mom who dropped out of high school to raise her baby. 156. Question: Most Liked Show of the 90’s? 157. Vote: Best/most important/favorite pop culture item from 1999

Well, if so, you're not alone. We've all had people in our lives who have rubbed us the wrong way. Of course, we rarely, if ever. think that WE rub someone the wrong way? That would be too humble of us, wouldn't it? Several years ago, I worked with a person who made life difficult for me. This person was harsh and unkind, and confusion often reigned in our communication. The more I tried to clarify, the worse the communication became. I had hired and signed a contract with this person to achieve a professional goal. But the person seemed to be standing in the way of my achieving that goal by sowing confusion in our communication. In short, this person had become a thorn in my flesh! Or, so I thought. (By the way, if you haven't experienced a thorn in the flesh yet, you will. So file away for future reference what I'm about to share with you.) Now, in all fairness to the person, I must say that the opposition was not intentional. But it was there, nonetheless. Yet, given the contract I had signed, I had no other recourse but to put up with the situation and to make the best of it. Day by day, as I engaged with this person, I found myself getting more and more stressed. I complained to the Lord that this person was an obstacle to my achieving my goal. To my great surprise, the Lord answered me with these words: "This person is not an obstacle, but a vehicle." A vehicle? Surely I had misunderstood and misheard the Lord. But I had not misheard Him. He had simply shown me once again that His ways are higher than my ways. Okay, Lord, I replied. "As always, you're right. But how is this person a vehicle and not an obstacle in my life?" The Lord said, "This person is a vehicle to my making you like Jesus. That's been your prayer, hasn't it? That I would make you like Jesus. Well, I've placed this person in your life to polish your rough edges. And you have many of them, you know." Gulp! Have you ever wanted to run into a cave and hide? Then you know how I felt. With great sincerity of heart, I asked the Lord to forgive me of my selfish, arrogant attitude and to help me view this person as a vehicle to God's shaping me into the image of Christ. Now, years later, I can see how that person's presence in my life revealed the huge flaws in me that I needed to deal with in order to become more and more like Jesus. Perhaps you, too, have a person or a situation in your life that is your thorn in the flesh. A person or situation that seems to be holding you back from what you want, that seems to be standing in the way of a goal you want to achieve. If so, stop and reconsider. Perhaps the very person or situation you think is an obstacle is actually a vehicle to something far better for your life. Something good you would miss if you didn't have that thorn in the flesh. So, why does God give each of us a thorn in the flesh? Here are three key reasons: 1. A thorn in the flesh polishes us. Thorns scratch at us, removing bits of harmful debris. Thorns polish us, removing our rough edges. Thorns prick us, instigating us to righteous living. 2. A thorn in the flesh keeps us dependent on God. When things aren't going swimmingly—as our British friends say—we tend to go to God for help.

This week's guest Larry "NuFace" Compton. NuFace is known by many as the guy on Instagram who seems to have just about every classic Hip-Hop album (and the merch to match) ever! He is in the process of building out his own museum to celebrate Hip-Hop culture. In addition to sharing stories about his journey from Detroit to Atlanta, he also talks about the cool moments he has shared with some of your favorite artists. 1:00 NuFace talks about leaving Detroit and coming to Atlanta for college (Clark Atlanta University). Like so many others, Freaknik was a big reason why wound up there. He also talks about how his father influenced him as an artist. NuFace then reveals that he fell into collecting things via neighborhood friends going away to jail and their parents giving him their toys because they knew "he'd take care of them." 5:30 NuFace actually remembers the first things he collected. Salt-N-Pepa, 2 Live Crew, Too $hort and Dr. Dre got him started. Mainly because of the explicit album covers and content and the attention it drew. He also credits his mother for not throwing his things away when he left for school. 9:45 NuFace talks about how he began forging relationships with his favorite artists by presenting them with tapes and other artifacts they don't even have anymore. From this, he plans to open a museum celebrating Hip-Hop history. 15:00 NuFace talks about how he takes care of all of his precious cargo. He also talks about if he thinks more people go back to buying physical copies of music and how more artists should consider producing more physical copies of their music. 20:45 NuFace says he has a "Clark Kent shoe closet" worth of Hip-Hop collectibles when asked how much space he thinks his things will take up. He also speaks on how it's actually hard to have company over for dinner or chill because people are always distracted by his collection and want a tour. 24:40 NuFace talks about how people can help support his vision of building a museum. He also shares details on his upcoming A3C event. 29:40 NuFace talks about the time he got the late Nipsey Hussle to sign his "Victory Lap" cassette and how the artist remembered him the next time he saw him. 34:00 NuFace lists his bucket list of items he wants to add to his collection or get signed. He also shares a hilarious story about trying to get DMX to sign his "Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of my Blood" album at Art Basel in Miami. Monster Porn: Horror Stories, Weird Fiction, & Speculative Fiction
Monster Porn presents a super sexy vampire story special. In "The House on Sumner" by Bret Norwood, a house flipper's work on a victorian home is interrupted by the reappearance of the previous home owner. Who is dead. And also thirsty. In "Eateth of My Flesh" by Matt Cummins, a mysterious guest evangelist is invited to the Christian revival tent...and the communion gets a little weird. If you love a good vampire story, also go back and check out episode MP027 - "Naranca: A Slavic Vampire Myth" after the show, and keep an eye on our friend Octoberpod (on Youtube) for his Dracula-related special, coming out this Halloween season, which features an original vampire story by our own Bret Norwood. Matt fell ill during the production of this episode (probably when Bret gave birth, lol), so Bret fills in on the performance of "Eateth of My Flesh." Early Voyages #1-4. Captain Christopher Pike has played a large role in the Star Trek universe over the past year, and we have made a concerted effort to take a look at the books that chronicle the adventures of this captain of the Enterprise. So it only makes sense to cast our gaze back to the late '90s, when Marvel Comics briefly held the licence to print Star Trek comic books, and released a series based on the voyages of the U.S.S. Enterprise under the command of Chris Pike. In this episode of Literary Treks, hosts Dan Gunther and Bruce Gibson are joined by Shahank Avaaru and Barry DeFord of the Trek Geeks podcast Poli-Treks to discuss the first four issues of Star Trek: Early Voyages. We talk about the crew's introduction in "Flesh of My Flesh," a face-off with the Klingons in "The Fires of Pharos," the crisis on Rigel VII in "Our Dearest Blood," and revisit Talos IV from a new perspective in "Nor Iron Bars a Cage." We wrap up with our final thoughts and ratings and where Barry and Shashank can be found online. John 6:52 - The Bread that I will give is My Flesh for the life of the world. This week's lesson is on the Source and Summit of our Faith, the Holy Eucharist. Actually, the Holy Eucharist is so important in our faith that this lesson will be spread over the next three weeks. In this first lesson will see the way in which Christ is contained in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, Next week’s lesson we’ll see that the Sacrament is a sign of Christ sacrificed. The third episode we will see that the Sacrament is the food for our soul. Hello everybody and welcome back to another episode of All About My Catholic Faith. I really hope that you're doing great today and having a wonderful Lent so far. If you're not listening to this podcast during Lent then I hope you're having a wonderful week whatever time of year it is. When did Jesus start the Holy Eucharist and how did he do it? How are the bread and the wine changed into the Body and Blood of Jesus? How can that be done still today when Jesus is not here with us? Bible Readings for this lesson: 1st Corinthians chapter 10: 16-17 Gospel of St. Luke chapter 22: starting verse 7 Christ instituted and started the Holy Eucharist at the Last Supper when he took the bread, and he blessed, it and he broke it, and he gave it to his disciples saying “Take and Eat, This is my Body,” and then he took the cup of wine, he also blessed it and he gave it to his disciples and said “All of you drink this, for this is my Blood of the New Covenant which is being shed for many unto the Forgiveness of sins.” Finally then towards the end of the Last Supper, he gave his Apostles a very important assignment which was their commission to go out into the world and do this same celebration in remembrance of him. And this didn't just mean for them to go out and eat bread and drink wine and to remember this last supper that they had just had with Jesus. No, actually he was telling them, his new priests of his Church, to go throughout the world teaching and preaching, as well as giving them the power to change simple bread and simple wine into his real, true Body and Blood. MERRY CHRISTMAS, and if that doesn't offend you then you might just like this show. Milkcrates & Microphones episode 18 is something of a holiday special, not really but we are celebrating DMXmas in This Week In Hip Hop (TWIHH). On December 22, 1998 DMX released Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood, an album that had a impact on the lives of a couple of us then we make a correction to last weeks TWIHH. Do you like Christmas movies? well we do and we run down our Top 3 of ALL TIME! Find out why National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation was eliminated from our list and what christmas "classic" we vowed to watch. Then we take a deep dive into waters we have no business in as we talk some politics and Mythical creatures before we get back to what we know with some freestyles and of course our song picks of the week.
This week we are joined by Aviles for a breakdown of DMX's sophomore release "Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood." The album became an immediate staple in Hip-Hop, considering it was released just 7 months after his debut, and launched X into superstardom. But has it withstood the test of time?
It's been a long time, we shouldn't have left you/Without a dope pod to step to That's right it's been a month, but in spite of everything you likely wished for, Jack and David are back with a new episode of Underemployed for alls y'alls! And with David's move, the two can now record episodes in person! So with that in mind, the two talk about how David's adjusting to his new life, the snow outside breaking up the nonstop rain in the DMV, Jack struggling to fully embrace Kendrick Lamar, the Christmas miracle that is DMX's Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood, hood classics, Chris Cillizza, Amazon coming to Northern Virginia, neo-Nazis, 2 Chainz' dog, friends' Halloween costumes, and so much more! Also, Jack makes some hilariously alarming grammar mistakes and David utters the phrase "I'm pro-jorts", so you know it's dope!
How much of my weakness am I willing to show someone, so that they can see strength. We often times spend a lot of time showing people how strong we are but rarely show them the battle scars, pierced hands and the blood running from my side. In the weakness of My Flesh there is nothing good, but and me is the imputed righteousness of God in the form of the Holy Spirit. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/walk-in-truth-ministries/support
This week we bring you a special and timely conversation between our very own Dana Bassett and Dr. Daniel Berger recorded at Iceberg Projects where Berger has curated the current show, “Flesh of My Flesh,” an exhibition of painting, film, sculpture, photography and print work by the late David Wojnarowicz. Dan and Dana discuss Wojnarowicz’s aesthetic and historical legacy, the AIDS crisis, and the upcoming screening of Films by David Wojnarowicz and Friends, featuring “Silence=Death.” Wojnarowicz’s screening takes place this Sunday, July 22nd at Northwestern’s Block Museum. More information can be found here: http://icebergchicago.com/davidwojnarowicz.html. “Flesh of My Flesh” is on view at Iceberg Projects until August 4th. Full text of the writing referenced in this interview: When I put my hands on your body on your flesh I feel the history of that body. Not just the beginning of its forming in that distant lake but all the way beyond its ending. I feel the warmth and texture and simultaneously I see the flesh unwrap from the layers of fat and disappear. I see the fat disappear from the muscle. I see the muscle disappearing from around the organs and detaching iself from the bones. I see the organs gradually fade into transparency leaving a gleaming skeleton gleaming like ivory that slowly resolves until it becomes dust. I am consumed in the sense of your weight the way your flesh occupies momentary space the fullness of it beneath my palms. I am amazed at how perfectly your body fits to the curves of my hands. If I could attach our blood vessels so we could become each other I would. If I could attach our blood vessels in order to anchor you to the earth to this present time I would. If I could open up your body and slip inside your skin and look out your eyes and forever have my lips fused with yours I would. It makes me weep to feel the history of your flesh beneath my hands in a time of so much loss. It makes me weep to feel the movement of your flesh beneath my palms as you twist and turn over to one side to create a series of gestures to reach up around my neck to draw me nearer. All these memories will be lost in time like tears in the rain.

How many of us really appreciate the gift that Our Blessed Lord has given us of Himself in the Holy Eucharist. How many of us realise that we do not receive something in the Eucharist. We do not receive bread in the Eucharist, nor do we receive wine in the Eucharist, we do not receive any created thing in the Eucharist. In the Eucharist, we receive someone. We receive a Person, the second Person of the Blessed Trinity Who said, “Whoever eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood has eternal life. Whoever eats Me lives in Me and I in him. My Flesh is real food, My Blood real drink. He who eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood lives in Me and I will raise him up on the last day as the living Father has sent me and I live because of the Father , so whoever eats Me will live because of me.” In all of this, there is no suggestion that we’re receiving something, but we are receiving Someone. Someone who has given Himself entirely to us. His body, His blood, His soul because He died for us, and His divinity because He rose from the dead. And what He promises us is not biological life, we have that already; what He is offering us is eternal life which we do not have because of Adam’s sin. But which has been restored to us in baptism. Which has been strengthen in us… For Fr. Linus’ complete homily please listen to the Audio.
