Say goodbye to neon-colored sports drinks filled with artificial ingredients! After a podcasting break, I'm thrilled to return with something genuinely useful – a simple recipe for a homemade electrolyte drink that delivers exceptional hydration without the harmful additives. Most commercial sports drinks promise hydration but deliver a cocktail of artificial colors, preservatives, refined sugars, and plastic-leached chemicals. My homemade alternative is not only cleaner but more effective, packed with bioavailable minerals your body can actually use. This drink supports energy production, optimal nerve function, muscle performance, and mental clarity – all from ingredients you likely already have in your kitchen. The recipe is wonderfully straightforward: water (or coconut water), real maple syrup, Mimi's Miracle Minerals (the star ingredient with over 70 trace minerals), sea salt, and fresh lemon juice. Each component serves a specific purpose – from the ionic minerals in Mimi's Miracle Minerals that boost cellular hydration to the clean glucose and trace minerals in maple syrup. For athletes or sauna enthusiasts, optional additions include baking soda for pH balance and magnesium powder to prevent cramps. What makes this drink special is its customizability and natural profile. Try lime instead of lemon, add fresh mint for a different flavor profile, or use sparkling water for a refreshing twist. It's preservative-free, plastic-free, and most importantly – your body will love it. Ready to transform your hydration routine? Grab Mimi's Miracle Minerals from dyrobi.com or Amazon and experience the difference that proper, natural hydration can make in your daily life and performance.Find episode links, notes and artwork at:https://blog.dirobi.comThis show is for informational purposes only. In this episode of the A is for Architecture Podcast, author, curator and currently director of the Farrell Centre at Newcastle University, Owen Hopkins discuss his recent book, The Manifesto House: Buildings that Changed the Future of Architecture, published by Yale University Press two days ago. The Manifesto House explores the history of architecture through the lens of individual houses that have acted as manifestos for new ideas, movements and ways of living. Looking at twenty-one houses from the 16th through to the 21st century, the book presents a compelling narrative of how individual homes can influence architecture's evolution, and perhaps even answer some of the challenges we're faced with in the built environment today.Owen is also currently one fifth of the team who have curated this year's British Pavilion exhibition at La Biennale di Venezia 2025, which can be read about here. Owen can be found on Instagram and LinkedIn and the book is linked above. Listen, think, click, buy, read. Donald (President) and Becky (Director of Marketing) take me down memory lane to the very beginning when Donald's grandmother opened the first Runza in 1949. 75 years later, the restaurant has grown to 91 locations, introduced chili & cinnamon rolls to the menu, had limited runs of breakfast Runzas, received celebrity taste tests, catered weddings, partnered with Nebraska athletics... and so much more! A shocking 90% of Australian baby and toddler foods fail to meet international guidelines, yet manufacturers employ deceptive marketing tactics to make us believe they're healthy choices. In this eye-opening episode, paediatric dietitian Kareena Savage reveals how "organic" labels and Health Star Ratings can mislead parents, with some toddler snacks containing more sugar than white chocolate. Learn practical strategies for decoding food labels, avoiding nutritional traps, and creating healthier, more affordable lunchboxes your kids will actually eat. Quote of the Episode: "We as parents in 2025 have it tougher than any other parent has ever had it in terms of trying to understand what is a healthy food choice for our child or for our family." Key Points: Food manufacturers use deceptive marketing, with 90% of Australian baby/toddler foods failing international guidelines. Many products marketed as healthy (like "97% fruit and yoghurt") contain more sugar than white chocolate. When reading food labels, check the ingredients list first—shorter is better. Avoid products with sugar in the top three ingredients. For packaged foods, aim for less than 20g sugar per 100g. Keep sodium under 350mg per 100g. The Health Star Rating system has significant flaws—companies know how to "game" the system. Packaged foods are typically more expensive and less nutritious than whole foods. Homemade treats are healthier than commercial versions, even with similar ingredients. Setting clear boundaries around packaged foods helps children develop better eating habits. Resources Mentioned: Visit nourishwithkarina.com for free recipes and nutrition information. Nourishing Kids support program Black bean brownie recipe Action Steps for Parents: Examine ingredient lists—choose products with shorter lists and recognisable ingredients. Check sugar content—aim for less than 20g per 100g in cereals and snacks. Monitor sodium levels—keep under 350mg per 100g. Be sceptical of Health Star Ratings, especially on highly processed foods. Limit children to 1-2 packaged items per day in lunchboxes. Buy in bulk to reduce costs of healthier packaged options. Batch-cook healthier versions of treats on weekends (using wholemeal flour and less sugar). Set clear family boundaries around packaged food consumption. Modify recipes by adding nutritious ingredients (extra egg, chia seeds, wholemeal flour). See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
