The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly Compensatory Call-In 08/16/25. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how best to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. This weekly broadcast examines current events from across the globe to learn what's happening in all areas of people activity. We cultivate Counter-Racist Media Literacy by scrutinizing journalists' word choices and using logic to deconstruct what is reported as "news." We'll use these sessions to hone our use of terms as tools to reveal truth, neutralize Racists/White people. #ANTIBLACKNESS Not even two months removed from Gus T. Renegade's daily court coverage from the Milwaukee County Court House, the Governor of Wisconsin is begging Pres. Donald Trump to declare a state of emergency in the southeast corner of the state. Regions in the north part of Milwaukee were especially hard hit, unless, Gus T. is massively confused, large concentrations of black people are warehoused in this part of town. Many reports indicate that this once in a 1,000 years flood happened in a region where many people do not have flood insurance. In the nation's capitol, President Trump ordered federal troops into Washington, D.C. with specious claims of roving gangs of punks looting and pillaging "Chocolate City." Some fear President Trumps federal invasion will be coming to other US cities soon. Gus remembers one serious point that was raised during discussions of legalizing cannabis in "The District." Marijuana remains outlawed under federal law, and Washington, D.C. has a higher number of federal troops than most other cities. Now, they're even more armed federal agents in town. #EndStageWhiteSupremacy INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: http://cash.app/$TheCOWS Call: 720.716.7300 Code: 564943#
Craig Sandlin and Cory Phillips discuss the Milwaukee Brewers extending their franchise-record winning streak to 14 games, defeating the Cincinnati Reds 6-5 in a thrilling 11-inning contest at Great American Ball Park. The Reds took an early 2-0 lead in the first with home runs from Spencer Steer and Noelvi Marte off Brewers starter Quinn Priester. Milwaukee responded, tying the game in the fourth on Christian Yelich's single and Sal Frelick's sacrifice fly. The Reds surged ahead 4-2 in the sixth with Ke'Bryan Hayes' solo homer and an error-aided run. The Brewers rallied in the ninth, tying it at 4-4 with William Contreras' single and Brice Turang's sacrifice fly. In the 10th, Jackson Chourio's solo homer off Joe La Sorsa gave Milwaukee a 5-4 lead. Trevor Megill secured his 30th save, despite a Reds threat. Yelich went 2-for-4, continuing his hot streak. Reds starter Zack Littell pitched six innings, allowing two runs, but defensive errors by Gavin Lux and T.J. Friedl proved costly. The Reds, now 64-60, fell further in the NL Wild Card race, while the Brewers improved to 78-44, solidifying their NL Central lead.
#502 Meet Coach Lauren Brown Welcome Welcome to Episode #502 of the 303 Endurance Podcast. We're your hosts Coaches Rich Soares and April Spilde. Thanks for joining us for another week of news, coaching tips and discussion. We are back after being away at USAT Nationals in Milwaukee and TriDot Pool School in Tempe, Arizona. April, how was it coaching swimming on the Sun? Rich, I might as well be walking on the sun, LOL! I remember I texted you and Coach La that I was living in Satan's butthole the past couple of days. I thought I was going to melt a couple of times. But seriously, even though it was hellfire hot, I had an incredible time and I can't wait to unpack that later in the show. We had an improvement rate 15% across the board. Coach Dennis Hetland and I had the privilege of running Lane 3 – Aim High! – and we say remarkable results in both dropping stroke counts and smashing the 100-yard benchmark. I want to give a special shout-out to Coach Gene Deyoe who was in my lane. Coach Gene dropped two strokes from his 25-yard distance, and 11 seconds off his 100-yard time! He had such a great attitude and always appreciated the feedback we gave. He was a joy to coach. Second, we had Jay Camp, Coach Chad Rolf's athlete, in our lane and he was a hoot to work with! I especially enjoyed his dry sense of humor–very much like Coach Chad. He was also very receptive to feedback and his results showed how much work he put into his Functional Freestyle. He reduced his stroke count by 4 for 25 yards which is massive! Think about all that energy he will save because of his efficiency in the water! Get this, he shaved 29 seconds off his 100-yard benchmark. I was blown away by his improvements. He winked at me and told me not to tell his coach, which I promptly did LOL! Can't wait to hear how his new zones treat him after that incredible improvement. Finally, the last thing I'll share is that even though it was hotter than hell on deck, we had some of the best lifeguards. They would come around every 20 minutes or so with buckets of cold water with rags that we could put on our heads and necks. It kept me from being a heat casualty for sure as the temps reached 114 degrees. So again, thank you to the McClintock Pool Lifeguards for coming in clutch last weekend! You made our pool school a huge success! USAT Nationals Update: Milwaukee transformed into the epicenter of multisport excellence as it hosted the 2025 USA Triathlon Sprint and Olympic Distance National Championships. Thousands of amateur athletes from across the country descended on the city to compete, connect, and celebrate the sport we love. Race Highlights The action kicked off Friday with an open water swim in Lake Michigan, open to all registrants. Saturday brought the Olympic Distance National Championships, featuring a 1,500m swim, 40k bike, and 10k run. Athletes raced through Milwaukee's scenic lakefront, crossing the iconic Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge and finishing in Veterans Park [1]. Sunday was slated for the Sprint Distance Nationals and Paratriathlon Championships, but heavy overnight rain led to the cancellation of the sprint race for safety reasons [1]. Despite the disappointment, many athletes expressed gratitude for having raced earlier in the weekend. One athlete shared on Facebook: “Grateful I got to race yesterday. The stitches and bandaging got me through great. Heat, humidity, and wind were the factor yesterday, not the ankle wrap.” Yes, you heard that right—this athlete raced with stitches, tetanus, and antibiotics after a pre-race injury involving a bike and a hotel room. Talk about grit and determination! Celebration of Sport Gala & Hall of Fame Inductions Thursday night's Celebration of Sport Gala, hosted at Discovery World, was a moving tribute to the spirit of triathlon. The event honored the USA Triathlon Hall of Fame Class XIII, which included: Colleen Cannon – 1984 Nice World Champion and founder of Women's Quest. Graham Fraser – Race producer and visionary behind Ironman North America. Ellen Hart – 18-time World Age Group Champion and Ironman podium regular. Paul Martin – Paratriathlon legend and author who turned adversity into triumph. Kenny Souza – Duathlon pioneer and charismatic ambassador of the sport [2] [3]. Here's a breakdown of the 2025 USA Triathlon Hall of Fame inductees and their connections to Colorado: Colleen Cannon Lives in Boulder, Colorado. After retiring from professional racing, she founded Women's Quest, a Boulder-based adventure retreat company focused on empowering women through outdoor activities and wellness. She was inducted into the Boulder Sports Hall of Fame in 2017 [1]. Ellen Hart Lives in Niwot, Colorado, and previously served as First Lady of Denver during her marriage to former Denver Mayor Federico Peña. She is a longtime Colorado resident, Harvard graduate, and University of Colorado Law School alum. Hart has been a prominent figure in the Colorado endurance community and was inducted into the Colorado Running Hall of Fame [2]. Final Thoughts Milwaukee once again proved why it's a favorite host city for USA Triathlon. From the scenic course to the passionate community, the weekend was a celebration of perseverance, excellence, and camaraderie. She's here to empower you, connect you, and help each of you feel even more supported on this journey. Lauren, we are beyond excited to have you on board Questions for Lauren: Two Truths and a LIe Icebreaker: I danced on stage with Brittney Spears, I once got lost on a training ride and ended up in a different state; Before being an endurance athlete, I competed as a pro with the International Federation of Body Builders Where did you grow up and where do you call home? Tell us about your athlete journey? Tell us about your coach journey? Your vision for the G2G ambassador program? When I think about the Grit2Greatness Ambassador Program, I picture a true community—one that builds on the incredible foundation we've already created, but keeps growing in depth, reach, and connection. In our world, every athlete has a seat at the table. Whether you're brand new to the sport or you've been racing for decades, whether you prefer the excitement of a sprint or the challenge of an IRONMAN, you belong here. This is a space where every athlete is encouraged to step in, be seen, and thrive. My biggest hope for this year is to welcome a wave of new athletes into triathlon—people who may have been curious, but unsure if they'd fit in—and show them that this sport is for everyone. And beyond racing, I want this to be a place where we support each other's growth both inside and outside of sport. I'd love for us to lead more community events, take part in races together, and deepen relationships with race directors and the brands that make our sport stronger. My heart tells me this program is just at the beginning of its potential, and I truly cannot wait to see what we create together. Get Gritty Tip: 66-Day Challenge! Rich, as you know, I am a huge fan of the book, The ONE Thing, by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan and one of the favorite lessons I learned is about the power of breaking down habits into bite size pieces that you can consistently sustain over time. I've actually crafted several keystone habits over the past five years through using the tools from The ONE Thing. For example, I built the habit of setting aside my gym clothes every night before work. We have our habit of reading the Daily Stoic as a morning ritual, and now we share our 3 wins and 3 things we are grateful for each day. These habits have been critical for helping me make each day purpose-driven and intentionally meaningful. So that brings me to the habit I am now currently working on. I decided at the beginning of the year that I wanted to complete 10 unassisted pull-ups by the end of 2025. I was going strong for the first 3 months and kind of fell off with the start of race season. Well, after doing my mid-year reset I realized I needed to get back on the proverbial horse, and what better way to do that than a 66-day pull-up challenge! So why 66 days? If you've read The ONE Thing then you'll remember in Chapter #6 the discussion around a study the University College of London did on how long it takes on average to create a habit–66 days. So my challenge, because I know how important it is to start small, is to complete 1 pull per day for 66 days. Now, I do as many as I can and right now, I'm on Day 10 and I'm up to 4 unassisted pull-ups. I also use a band and knock out as many as I can with the assist to help me continue to progress. I'm also hoping I can start adding in weighted pull-ups as we get further down the road. The other part of the challenge is to post the evidence on social media which 1) keeps me accountable, and 2) inspires others to join me! I found out today that Coach Will Nichols, @coachironwill on Instagram, bought his own pull-up bar and started his 66-day pull-up challenge! So I want to throw the challenge out there to you, Rich, and to our audience! It doesn't have to be pull-ups, but what's one thing you can commit to doing for 66 days that helps you on your athletic journey! I want you to share with us and tag me @getgrittywithme on Instagram so I can cheer you on just like Coach Will! TriDot Workout of the Week: Orientation Swim Open Water Swim is the Workout of the Week I've chosen for a couple of reasons. One, it is so helpful to get in the body of water you will be racing in and get a feel for swim start, current, temperature, lighting, sun direction, weeds, swim exit, which goggles work best, etc. In Milwaukee this was key. They had the course setup and we were able to swim the buoys through the bridge and practice the swim exit as it would be on race day. It also gave us the opportunity to get comfortable with the high likelihood of the race not being wetsuit legal.I chose to do the practice swim in just my TriDot swim jammers. Here's a full list of benefits: Course Familiarization Swim the actual course (or as much as allowed) to understand sighting landmarks, turns, and exit points. Identify key buoys: Start buoy, turn buoys, and finish buoy. Practice sighting using fixed landmarks (buildings, trees, flags) beyond the buoys. Note water entry and exit terrain: Is it sandy, rocky, slippery, or grassy? Environmental Awareness Assess water conditions: Temperature, current, chop, visibility. Practice breathing on both sides if waves or sun glare may affect one side. Check for wind direction and how it may affect swim navigation. Gear Check Test your race-day gear: Goggles (anti-fog), wetsuit, swim cap. Practice wetsuit entry and exit to simulate transitions. Try different goggles if visibility or sun glare is an issue. Mental Preparation Visualize race morning: From lining up at the start to exiting the water. Practice your start strategy: Deep water start, beach start, or time trial start. Swim with others to simulate race-day contact and drafting. Technique & Strategy Practice sighting rhythm: Every 6–10 strokes is typical. Work on pacing: Start controlled, build into race effort. Try drafting behind or beside another swimmer if allowed. Safety & Logistics Locate lifeguards or safety personnel and understand emergency protocols. Note the location of medical tents or aid stations near swim exit. Time your swim to understand how long it takes at race pace. Fun Segment: Triathlon Hot Takes Debate! So I happened upon this article in Triathlete Magazine titled “7 Spicy-Hot Debates Triathletes Can't Stop Arguing” and I thought this would be a perfectly juicy topic of discussion for this week's fun segment! Your assignment is to convincingly argue your case in 20 seconds or less. Time to bring the heat! Are you Team Bare or Team Hair: Do you shave your body hair for triathlon or go au naturel? Which is harder: Training for an Ironman or training for a marathon PR? Flying dismount or unclipping, foot down? White Tri Suits? Yay or Nay? Sprint or jog into the finisher chute? Post every workout on social media, or no? Which is more impressive? Ironman World Champion or Olympic Champion? Well there you have it. We laid our opinions on the line and now it's your turn! We want to hear from you: are you team bare or team hair? Is training for a marathon PR harder than training for an Ironman? And what about white tri suits? Give us your opinions and we'll see who truly won the Triathlon Hot Takes Debate! Closing: Thanks again for listening this week. Please be sure to follow us @303Triathlon and @grit2greatnessendurance and of course go to iTunes and give us a rating and a comment. We'd really appreciate it! Stay tuned, train informed and enjoy the endurance journey!

Brad Crowell 0:01 Fuck yeah.Lesley Logan 0:02 Get ready for some wins. Welcome to the Be It Till You See It podcast where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring. I'm Lesley Logan, Pilates instructor and fitness business coach. I've trained thousands of people around the world and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt. My friends, action brings clarity and it's the antidote to fear. Each week, my guest will bring bold, executable, intrinsic and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and Be It Till You See It. It's a practice, not a perfect. Let's get started.Lesley Logan 0:47 Hi Be It babe, welcome to your Fuck Yeah Friday, this short, sweet and hopefully very inspiring episode where I share something that inspired me, that hopefully is useful for you, a win of yours and a win of mine, and it reminds us that we're not perfect bands, thank God, and that we are doing the best we can to make life a better place for ourselves and those around us, right? So the thing that came across my feed that I was like, oh, I gotta share this with the Be It Pod babes says 19 Powerful Sentences by Carl Jung That Will Change How You View the World. Okay, I'm gonna take the time to read all 19, and so we'll put the link in the show notes, so that if there's one that like stands out to you, you can go back and you can screenshot it and save it for yourself. Number one, I am not what happened to me. I am what I choose to become. I mean, if that's not be it till you see it, right, I don't know what is. Number two, everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves. Ooh, love that. Number three, if the path before you is clear, you're probably on someone else's. Number four, you are what you do, not what you say you'll do. Well, that's another be it till you see it one. Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life, and you will call it fate. Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life, and you will call it fate. Where your fear is, there your task is. Talk about this and the opening credit, opening music of the pod, right? Like do, got to do things that's scary because that's where clarity comes from. Yeah, it's antidote to fear. Action is. Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes. So, your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes. No tree, it is said, can grow to heaven unless its roots reach down to hell. The world will ask who you are, and if you don't know, the world will tell you. People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own souls. The first half of life is devoted to forming a healthy ego, the second half is going inward and letting go of it. Isn't that the truth that's so adulting, it's so hard. Okay, one does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious. If a man knows more than others, he becomes lonely. Where wisdom reigns, there is no conflict between thinking and feeling. No matter how isolated you are and how lonely you feel, if you do your work truly and conscientiously, unknown friends will come and seek you. So true. Thinking is difficult, that's why most people judge. That's amazing. Know all the theories, master all the techniques, but as you touch a human soul, be just another human soul. Solitude is for me a fount of healing, which makes my life worth living. Talking is often torment for me, and I need many days of silence to recover from the futility of words. The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are. That's a be it till you see it. Oh, I'm so glad we ended with that one. Brilliant, wonderful, beautiful. I'm gonna save that one just because, like, keep it for myself. Oh my gosh. So, so good. So I would love to know which one of those are your favorite. Which ones you're gonna put on a Post-It. Like our other guests have said about things, to remind yourself, because that's what we need, right? Lesley Logan 4:27 All right, now let's do a win of yours. This is from Stacey Extence. She's an Agency member. We've had her for a long, long time, and I'm really proud she's had a couple wins that she shared with you as before. So I'm grateful that she's letting us share another one. She said okay, this month has been crazy insane in the best possible way. Apparently, all I needed to do was go out of town and stop stressing for things to start rolling. Pause. I gotta tell you this. Listen to that again. I just needed to go out of town and stop stressing. You guys cannot micromanage your stress and the constraint and control you're trying to have around the dreams you have are what's keeping it from happening. So do the work. Do not just like manifest that shit, like, do the actual work, but also kind of let go of the control of how it plays out. Okay. Coming back to Stacy's win. Best month ever in revenue. It was a nice blend of packages and group classes. I could actually pay my bills with the money made this month. This is the first time all year that has happened. Six new clients dropped in my calendar, and most have been repeat clients. I taught my first blind client. I was mindful to use my hands to make noise on the equipment, brushing over the spring so she could hear where they were, shaking the handles and straps, etcetera. I also guided her hand while describing the Reformer. After my initial follow up text, she said that she was absolutely loved it and couldn't stop talking about it all last weekend, she's coming in every weekend in June for more lessons. Two random folks who've never done Pilates saw my fundraising event on Facebook and are coming to the Mat Raiser next weekend. I'm hoping to flip one or both into regular clients. Have an opportunity to team up and do an event with a local female social group who has events in the Milwaukee area, looking at August timeframe, and the apartment conflicts I reached out to would like to partner with me, so I got to make the flyer for their newsletters to homeowners, as well as a digital piece for the TVs and the lobbies. Humongous, like, so many wins in just the time that you like, sat down, got quiet and went on a vacation, Stacey. First of all, we have to acknowledge you did the work, all right? You did the effort in to make the Mat Raiser, that's a fundraiser guys, happen that you told people about it. Also, you didn't get scared and go, oh, I'm not capable of teaching someone who's blind. You're like, no, I can teach a body. I just have to learn how to tell them what we're doing, because it's going to challenge me. Like, I just think that a lot of us often don't raise our hands to say, yeah, I'll do that. And others want to do things, but then we don't do the things around it to make sure people know, like we talked about this in past episodes, some people won't share what they're working on until it's perfectly done. No, tell people you're working on your website. Tell people what you want to be until you see, tell people what you're doing. Why? Because they will help you. Before I was a certified Pilates instructor, I was telling everyone I was becoming a certified Pilates instructor. Guess what? I want to take Pilates with you. And so then I had practice bodies to teach. So at the studio that I was becoming a teacher, right? So I was able to actually teach even more bodies as a brand new teacher than if I had not told anyone all, so I was an even better teacher when I graduated. So you got to share with people what's going on, what you're working on, so that they can cheer you on. At the very least, right? At the very least. Lesley Logan 4:27 Okay, my win. So I hired myself a trainer. We're going in month three with this person, and so when is I hired a trainer? I think I've talked about this in the podcast before. I'm still celebrating it, because I have to pay every single month to keep it going. And I wanted to share with you that, like, a win can be just repeating an investment you made on yourself, right? Two, it has been really, really nice to let someone pour into me. So the second win is that I am receiving, receiving someone's expertise in my life around something that I'm knowledgeable but not an expert in, and it's just so nice. So I just want to say like you might be a great cook or a great housekeeper of your own house, or even a great person with your own dogs. And guess what, you might need help, right? And so investing in people who actually want to make the thing that you can do well, but they can do great as their business, investing in them is a way of practicing receiving and indulging in yourself and prioritizing yourself. And so here we are going into the fourth month of working together. She's able to like, handle like, okay, this month, I'm not in town, I'm not in my gym, so here's what I have access to, and she's able to give me workouts. And so I don't have to be creative, I could just focus on the things that I'm really good at. And so I just love this win so much. Because my hope is it inspires you. If there's something that you need to do, just because you can doesn't mean you should. I have a client that I've been working with, and she is on a weight loss journey, and so she's got a trainer, she's got me, and we were talking about some things, and she's like, yeah, I just need to get better at my meal planning, and I said to her I know you actually have been on this journey for a long time, and you've done tons of research, and I know you know all the things, but have you thought about getting help with this just for a month? So not a full-time investment, not a forever investment, just like a two weeks or a 30-day investment, and to see how it makes you feel. Does even having it for just your lunches help you only have to plan your dinners, because it can be overwhelming to meal plan all of your meals to help give you the nutrition and fuel that you need for the workouts that you're doing and for the life you want to have. That can be overwhelming, but if you have some help in it, it allows you to go I just only have to focus on the dinners, right? Like we have to make things a little easier for ourselves, the things we want to do and outsourcing it for a short period of time is a win. It's not a failure. It's not like, oh, I couldn't do it. It's like, no, I'm seeking out help. You know, I used to get meals delivered when I worked in a studio, because I wouldn't, I just didn't have the time every single day to prep my breakfast and my lunch. It was just so, so hard. So I had someone send it to the studio, breakfast and lunch, Monday through Friday. So I get to the studio and there would be my breakfast and lunch, and I just had to worry about dinner. And it was so nice because I would just, I'd only to go grocery shopping for dinner and not only that, and it was wonderful to help make sure I was fueled for the day. You know, meal plan doesn't have to actually have anything to do with weight loss, and it can actually just have everything to do with like, giving yourself nutrition. So anyways, my win is receiving the expert support and continuing to do it and hopefully inspiring you to just evaluate in your life, where it could just be a little bit helpful to have someone support you somewhere. Maybe OPC is the thing that supports your movement practice, or if you're a Pilates instructor, maybe agency becomes a support in your life, right? Yes, these things are investments. Yes, they cost money. And I'm going to tell you right now, when I had the meal delivery service, it wasn't like I was rolling in it. It was an expense, but it literally meant that I wasn't wasting food and that I wasn't so frustrated. So actually, my business was better because I had more energy to be in it. I'm just saying, sometimes we have to spend money to make money, right? Sometimes we need to invest in ourselves. We can go the next level to be it till I see it. Host Adam Bittner welcomes Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey to react to the Pirates' disastrous series sweep at the hands of the Brewers in Milwaukee. Why is this team still struggling so much, even after GM Ben Cherington decided to keep productive veterans like Tommy Pham and Isiah Kiner-Falefa on expiring contracts? How did manager Don Kelly's club fall so far behind its small-market peer, led by GM Matt Arnold? Can Bob Nutting or anyone else really complain about MLB economics when the Brewers are thriving like they are? And how much longer can Cherington hold onto his job? Our duo tackles those topics, plus some on-field questions. Is there any hope left for Jack Suwinski, who's struggled immensely since his most recent promotion from the minor leagues? Will Oneil Cruz's injured list stint snap him out of his post-All-Star break funk? And how bad could this offense be in 2026 if both Tommy Pham and Andrew McCutchen choose not to return?

David sits down this week with Fred Coleman, CFP and Branch Director at Annex Wealth Management. We got into some real talk about what money's actually for: spending time with the people you love, seeing the world, and making memories that matter.Fred shares his perspective on using money as a tool, not a scoreboard — and why it's okay (and important) to spend on the things that bring you joy. We also laugh about the classic Milwaukee summer struggle: if it's not winter, it's road construction.Laid-back, thoughtful, and full of little nuggets — hope you enjoy this one!
Do you ever wonder where the mainstream news media gets its news. Well, here's a clue. On Sunday, Gov. Tony Evers tweeted that he authorized the National Guard to help with the flooding response in Milwaukee. MacIver wanted more details, especially since the governor hadn't declared an emergency at that point. He didn't visit the area or declare an emergency until Monday afternoon. The National Guard's public affairs office promptly responded to MacIver's inquiry. It explained that only the Wauwatosa Fire Department had requested help from the guard. That was the request that Gov. Evers had authorized, hence the tweet. However, only a handful of guardsmen were activated, and it turned out that Wauwatosa cancelled its request before that could get on the scene. No other communities had asked for help, and so, as of Monday morning, the guardsmen were sitting in an armory in Madison just in case. Meanwhile, most news stations across the state reported that Gov. Evers had sent in the National Guard, even though he didn't. There had been no press releases and no executive actions. The only place anyone wouldn't gotten that idea from, is Twitter. So now you know where the mainstream media gets it news.

This week, my guest is Sahan Jayasuriya, musician & author of Don't Say Please: The Oral History of Die Kreuzen, who discusses the influential but polarizing band, DIE KREUZEN, as we look at the two legendary cable access performances that bookended the band's career in 1983 & 1991.We discuss how Die Kreuzen is beloved by musicians such as Neko Case, Thurston Moore & Ian MacKaye; why fans often don't want their favorite band to ever change musically and how Die Kreuzen struggled with that, the band's origin story and what led to their first EP Cows And Beer, their devastating first s/t LP and how some listeners were not ready for the follow-up October File, Maximum Rocknroll, how Die Kreuzen were a chemistry band not unlike R.E.M. or Cheap Trick, how a single photo of Keith from the band moved Chris to start dressing and performing like him, the 1983 Milwaukee cable access show: Who Am I: The Punk Rock Attitude & the roundtable discussion in it plus the band's blistering 17 minutes set, how the sound of pain resonated from the band sonically on all their records, Corey Rusk and Touch & Go Records, working with Butch Vig, the artwork of Richard Kohl, Chris witnessing a punk audience turn on the band at their live show, fog machines, Pink Flag, the band working with Steve Albini, why they disbanded shortly after their 1991 cable access performance, and the great story of Lou Barlow freaking out backstage because "Die Kreuzen are right behind that door!"Whether you know Die Kreuzen or not, this is a fantastic story about whether or not audiences are willing to go where a band wants to go. Another really nice day in the Coulee Region with a high of 84° expected. Gonna be warmer on Friday & Saturday with highs nearing 90°. As we usually do on Thursdays, we kicked things off with the "Thursday Song" and we talked to Office Cora to see what she's up to this weekend in the 715! We also asked each other hypothetical questions on "Hypothetical Thursday"…with Jean's question for Brian being: "If you were a teacher, what subject would you teach?" And Brian's question for Jean was: "If you could choose one magic item to use for the rest of your life, which would you take?" In the news this morning, the La Crosse City council will vote on a possible $144,000 settlement for a man that was run over by a police squad car in September of 2024, a trial date has been set for Josie Dikeman, Governor Evers asks for FEMA support in the wake of the recent flooding in the Milwaukee area, and the latest on "Frankenstein" rabbits that are being spotted in Colorado. In sports, the Brewers remain red hot by beating the Pirates again yesterday & triggering the "Free Burgers" promotion at George Webb restaurants in Milwaukee. We looked at the NFL's week 2 preseason schedule, and we talked about a couple of NBA teams that are getting sold, including the Boston Celtics & the Portland Trailblazers. And speaking of teams getting sold, it looks like the Minnesota Twins are no longer up for sale! Elsewhere in sports, NASCAR has decided NOT to limit celebrations in victory lane after the Connor Zilisch injury last weekend, and speaking of injuries….apparently Matthew Stafford is battling against his bad back with an "Ammortal Chamber". We had a new "Karen of the Day" who was very upset about people using a public beach, and we also ran some audio from our recent interview with Shaun McCoy of "Blood Ocean" and formerly "Bobaflex". His new band has some new music coming out this week and you can hear our interview and the new tune right here. Cool story about a cancer survivor who paid it forward by purchasing parking passes for other people who are battling the deadly disease. A woman who works as a custodian at Texas A&M while raising her four children just got four different college degrees, and a kid who really wanted to play baseball got a very special kidney transplant. We let you know what's on TV today/tonight and we checked out the trailer for the upcoming documentary on Charlie Sheen! And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about some kids who stole a train by watching YouTube videos on how to operate it, a woman who got drunk and upset at her phone and decided to try and shoot it with her gun, a man who was left in his reclining chair for months by his daughter and ended up with necrosis & maggots in his flesh, a passenger in an F-15 who accidentally hit the "eject" button while the plane was on the ground, and a guy in England who broke his arm because of his massive penis.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

➡ CLICK HERE to send me a text, I'd love to hear what you thought about this episode! Leave your name in the text so I know who it's from! Rese Schneider is Stella's mom. And when life handed her the kind of news no parent should ever have to hear, she didn't shut down—she rolled up her sleeves. When Stella was eight, she looked at a neighborhood playground and said, “That playground isn't for me.” After a cancerous brain tumor diagnosis in 2023, the slides, swings, and monkey bars that once brought joy had quietly become off-limits to this sweet, dragon-loving girl who was struggling to walk and even smile on her own. Instead of accepting that reality, Rese set out to change it—not just for Stella, but for every child in Milwaukee. The result is Stella's Playground, a universally inclusive play space where everyone belongs, coming to Reservoir Park in late summer of 2026. Today we talk about the story of this playground, and one mother's fierce, fierce love for her daughter. Grab a Kleenex for this one, you might need it, I know I did!

Steve Fifer from our sister station in Milwaukee was supposed to discuss the Packers, Love's injured thumb and more...but hijacked the segment to discuss the red hot Brewers.
North Shore Nine Postgame Show Powered by Primanti Bros. Pirates get swept by the Brewers in a 12-5 loss in Milwaukee. Neil and Doug break down Mitch Keller's rough outing, a lifeless offense outside of Bryan Reynolds' two homers, and a bullpen that couldn't stop the bleeding. They talk about why the Brewers are everything the Pirates aren't, the post-deadline collapse, and why there's little optimism heading into series with the Cubs and Blue Jays, aside from tomorrow's off day and NS9LIVE. Hour 1 with Bob Pompeani and Joe Starkey: The Pirates lost 14-0 and were completely embarrassed by the Milwaukee Brewers. Adam Schefter pointed to the Steelers paying other new stars, so Cam Heyward believes he deserves to be paid more. He doesn't see a deal coming up soon. Joe put out a Twitter poll and found over 50% of Steelers fans want to trade Heyward with these contract talks.
Today's Headlines: In maybe another Epstein distraction tactic, Trump held a fiery presser to announce he's taking control of DC's police and sending 800 National Guard troops for 30 days — despite crime being at a 30-year low. DC Mayor Muriel Bowser called it “unlawful” and noted Congress could've given her Guard control years ago. Trump also hyped his upcoming Alaska meeting with Putin to discuss “land swaps” for ending the Ukraine war. Zelensky isn't invited, but Trump hinted at a follow-up meeting, while European leaders scramble to meet him first. A judge blocked the DOJ's push to unseal Ghislaine Maxwell grand jury records, calling it a distraction. The US and China extended their tariff truce for 90 days, and the US will now take 15% of Nvidia and AMD's China AI chip sales for export licenses. Australia will recognize a Palestinian state at the UN in September, joining Canada and France. At home, a gunman killed 3 people outside an Austin Target, and explosions at a US Steel plant near Pittsburgh killed 1 and left another missing. Severe storms in the Midwest caused deadly flooding in Milwaukee, shut down the Wisconsin State Fair, and left 14 million people under flood alerts. Forecasters are also tracking tropical storm Erin in the Atlantic and Hurricane Henriette in the Pacific.
