Movement, Detroit’s long-running techno music festival made its way back to the city last month. Dynamic sounds and energetic tempos could be felt miles away from Hart Plaza as massive crowds danced their way through Memorial Day Weekend. Headlining this year’s festival was Carl Craig, a Detroit music producer, DJ, and founder of the record label Planet E Communications. Last year, a documentary film that chronicles the artist's life, Desire: The Carl Craig Story, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. This year, the film was screened at a pre-party to the music festival, ringing in the vibrant celebration of techno. “Most people don’t get a chance to see their lives before their eyes until a near-death experience. So I’m totally happy to see these things. These friends, family members, everyone in front of my face,” said Craig. Chop the Onion, Celery, Red Bell Pepper, Green Bell Pepper, and Green Onions. Drop two Sticks of Butter into your hot pot and melt completely. Add the chopped vegetables to the pot and raise burner to a medium. Add the Cajun Seasoning, Cayenne Pepper, and Salt. Sauté for about 20 minutes. Meanwhile chop the four cloves of Garlic. After 20 minuets of sautéing, add the garlic and sauté for another 10 minutes. After 10 more minuets of sautéing, push the vegetables to one side of the pot, add the 1/3 cup of flour and blend into the butter. Once the flour is mixed in well, stir everything altogether. Sauté for another 30 minutes. Be very cautious during this time. If fire seems a little high, lower it. Around this time you want to begin cooking some rice. With about 3 minutes left of sautéing, begin heating 2 cups of water in the microwave. Add a little bit of the hot water to the pot, and stir until it's a creamy mixture. Add the Crawfish and rest of the hot water to the pot. Blend evenly. Raise the heat to where you see a slight boil. Cover, and lower to a simmering heat. Cook for about 15-20 minutes. If you feel as though you would like a thinner sauce, just add a little more water. However, taste to see if you need more seasoning. Enjoy Dat!

It's a movie review show where everyone's a little tipsy and full. At this year's annual hotdog-themed Memorial Day bash, Hobert took a break from grilling to chill, have an Old Style, hear about the latest current releases and old favorites, briefly develop a star system and then drop it, and do a lot of plugging for Gabewatch (next show June 28th!).FriendshipFantastic PlanetMission: Impossible - Final ReckoningMechanical Violator HakaiderAguirre, the Wrath of GodHolesSinnersSpeed RacerPersonaDidiThe Last RodeoHot Fuzz (aka Shaun of the Dead)JazzMoulin Rouge!Real (2017)The Final GirlsThe Shrouds
The summer is finally here! This is both literal and figurative. We just celebrated Memorial Day as the weather is heating up. Just like the 4 seasons of nature, my business is entering a new season. After selling my 1st solo business in 2018, we moved to our hometown and stayed indoors. I tried everything in my power to build my coaching and consulting business in 2018 and early 2019. I stayed indoors as much as possible as I didn't want to clean. This was winter. Ultimately, I needed to get outside again and start planting seeds. I started this podcast and my aggressive networking plan in late 2019. This was the start of Spring. By the beginning of 2021, our new business was cranking and I was able to work on my consulting business again. My cleaning business was optimized and it was comfortable outside. Spring was coming to an end. But with anything, being comfortable is not a good place to be. I needed to get my hunger back and stretch myself. I need to put on my shorts, get outside and enjoy the weather. A New Freedom Vision was placed in my heart and we needed to enjoy this summer in the winter by spending a month in Florida in February. This would require me to scale my business beyond the comfort of Spring into the dog days of Summer. This will pay off because Fall represents the harvest of all seeds sown in the Spring. I am so excited to reach that season and earn my family's financial freedom! Now that you've got the seasonal perspective of my new Philly cleaning business, I'd like to announce a segment change to the podcast. I've been sharing weekly updates on my Carfagno Cleaning business since inception in October 2019. However, I've been adding more and more value-packed influencer interviews and snippets from expert calls within my paid groups, that I don't have the space to continue them. For this Summer season of Carfagno Cleaning, I will shift from weekly to monthly updates on my cleaning business. I will not share every detail as I have been. I will share relevant wins, struggles, and lessons that I feel will best support your own business growth. Most importantly, I will keep you updated on the progress of my efforts to scale my business so this long-time solo cleaner can get out of the field and live a life of time, money, and location freedom.Read the rest of this article at the Smart Cleaning School website

This week, Sam and Hannah are back from a heavy Memorial Day Weekend of reading, and Hannah's books, in particular, are once again well-coordinated. Even if they're a little hard to describe. Also, this is a solid Pride episode, sort of by mistake. Here's what's on tap: - "The Book of Records," by Madeleine Thien, which is as meaty a read as we've had in a while, full of philosophical truths and a building made of time. This is great stuff. - "Erasure," by Percival Everett, who is legitimately among the most important writers working today. This is the book that was made into the movie "American Fiction," but, as you might imagine, is even better than the movie. - "I'll Tell You When I'm Home," by Hala Alyan, who this time delivers a memoir grappling with her family's history of immigration, escaping Kuwait after the Iraqi invasion and coming to the U.S. This book shows you what generational trauma means. - "The Phoenix Pencil Company," by Allison King, a data privacy professional who's crafted a magical text about a family that can read pencil hearts (they stab it into their veins) that's perfect for Pride month. It's weird, yes. But new and different. - "Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil," by V.E. Schwab, which is an ode to Anne Rice — a vampire book — but doesn't really follow Rice's vampire rules, exactly (they're all lesbian vampires, which is different). The second half of this is pretty great. - Oh, and we're not going to tell you which book it is we disliked so intensely. See if you can figure it out. And there's no real good reason why this didn't get posted before June 10, other than Sam being in Iceland and not feeling like posting it. Sorry.

SpotifyYoutubeSpellboundpic TwitterBioPamela Edwards McClafferty didn't grow up hearing war stories. Her father, a WWII veteran, lived in silence with his memories. She noticed that her father-in-law, the quiet sailor, alsoendured as did many other veterans she met. The silence of these men and women is the spiritbehind the haunting ballad, “SOLDIERS NOT FORGOT.”Released just before Memorial Day, this is a song giving voice to what generations of veteranscouldn't say out loud. It is a tribute “to my father,” Pamela says, “and all who now defend anddid defend and protect our country.”While working on the musical Artland, with Stanley Clarke, the lyrics of this song lingered as shekept thinking about soldiers returning from war. Who did they talk to? How did they feel? Howlonely they must have been. This was long before therapy apps or terms like PTSD.“SOLDIERS NOT FORGOT” is a slow burn. Singer Lain Roy, whose family has a militarybackground, carries the track with a voice that blends soulful grit (reminiscent of John Legend)with deep feeling and memory. As the song reaches its climax, Roy soars into a sustained highnote as the music drops out. It's pure emotion:In peace, we soldiers live like other menYet a hint, a sound, fans memory's embers again.“I hope that SOLDIERS NOT FORGOT helps veterans heal from such traumatic experiences ofwar, helps to raise awareness of the soldier's true stories, and shows the impact war has on ourmilitary members.”Also performing on the track is Tzuriel Tong, whose piano and cello work weave around Roy'svoice with sparse elegance. Tong plays piano and cello and mixed and mastered the track.Michael Parnell was the arranger. The song's co-producer, Pamela's partner, Mark McClafferty, feels the weight of the song, too.His father served on the USS Laffey in WWII — known as “the ship that would not die.” Hisfather never spoke about the war until he read the lyrics of this song. “My Dad got emotional. It'sthe first time I had ever seen him cry,” Mark said.“SOLDIERS NOT FORGOT” has that kind of power. It opens doors slammed shut by society. Not for explanation, but for recognition. For remembrance. For release.“Above all, this song is a gift to all veterans, to their families and all people who wonder whathappens to the men and women after their uniforms come off,” Pamela says, “because evendecades later, for many veterans, the war never ends:We fight to the death, we fight to liveThat's our Hell, for others to liveThat's what we giveWith “Soldiers Not Forgot,” McClafferty has carved out a space for silence to speak. AI for Home Care: What Leaders Should KnowOn this episode of Home Care Heroes and Day Service Stars, host Ken Accardi takes a turn in the interview seat to answer an important question: What should home care and adult day care leaders know about artificial intelligence (AI)? With help from his colleague Sowpha Umashankar, Ken explores AI's current role, practical applications, and future in home care. Whether you're new to AI or already experimenting with it, this episode offers accessible, relevant insights for care professionals.Topics covered in the episode are as follows:You're Already Using AI — Even If You Don't Know ItAmazon suggestions (“people who bought this also bought…”)Netflix recommendationsVoice assistants like Alexa and SiriMobile check deposits that read and verify your handwriting"AI isn't new or scary; it's quietly integrated into our lives already."AI in Home Care: Support, Not ReplacementHome care and adult day care are human-centric industries. So why use AI at all? Ken emphasizes that AI shouldn't replace personal relationships — it should enhance them by removing repetitive or time-consuming tasks.Trying AI is Easier Than You ThinkTo show how accessible AI is, Ken gives a live demo using ChatGPT, where he asks for a multiplication quiz for his son. Despite a typo in the request, the AI delivers a perfectly usable quiz instantly.Voice Interaction: Talking to AIKen demonstrates that you can also speak to AI on a phone app.Three Practical AI Use Cases for Home Care ManagersSummarizing long articlesCreating training materialsScreening resumesAI in Software: Behind the ScenesAI is also being integrated into home care software systems, often in ways users may not notice. Ken gives two examples from Ankota:Trust but Verify: The Risks of AIAI isn't perfect. It can make errors, especially if asked complex or ambiguous questions. Ken emphasizes that AI should not make final decisions alone in home care.Choosing AI Tools WiselyBefore adopting a new AI tool, Ken advises home care leaders to ask a few key questionsPro Tips for Getting the Most from AITo get better results from AI tools like ChatGPT:Define the AI's role ("You are a home care leader...")State what you want ("Write a blog about Memorial Day activities for seniors")Set expectations ("Keep it under 800 words, suitable for caregivers")This practice, called prompt engineering, helps you shape the output more effectively.Final Thoughts: Give AI a TryKen wraps the episode by encouraging listeners to stay open-minded. Like Google or Google Maps before it, AI may soon become indispensable in your daily life. The key is to start small, stay curious, and test responsibly.“You're going to like AI as much as you like Google Maps,” Ken says, “once you give it a try and get used to it.”Home Care Heroes and Day Service Stars is produced and sponsored by Ankota - If you provide services that enable older or disabled people to continue living at home , Ankota can provide you the software to successfully run your agency. Sunday Sermon- May 25 2025- Romans 12:5-21 "A Memorial day Message: Honor one another in Christ Jesus"
Memorial Day is past us, and we're barrelling into Summer. So much has been happening over the past month, and so much is going to happen in the near future. This week, Ben and I are going to round up some of the big stories in the news and think a bit about what they might mean for all of us.
This week Mackenzie and Hanna invite the first PI guest on the show to share one of their own stories! The first PI guest is Austin, a nine-year veteran whose toolkit spans family-law digs, criminal-defense surveillance, insurance-fraud exposés and cutting-edge open-source sleuthing. He pulls back the curtain on what it really takes to trail a suspect—long hours in a lobby, split-second decisions on whether to dash inside or stay hidden, and even the pros and cons of facial-recognition software like PIMeyes. You'll get Austin's top safety hacks for vetting dates (free and low-cost background-check resources you can use tonight) and discover why a seemingly innocent Memorial Day beach trip ended with an all-too-public, trunk-wide rendezvous in a cherry-red Porsche.Click here to join our Patreon! The lawsuit filed last week by Governor Josh Shapiro against the US Department of Agriculture deals with the termination of a three-year, $13 million dollar food assistance contract. That funding also affects food assistance programs for needy Pennsylvanians. And a PA food bank advocate speaks out against the cuts. Solar energy companies across the region are reeling at the prospects of rollbacks to the green energy tax credits, with thousands of jobs at stake. As the school year winds down, colleges and universities are preparing to send out bills for the next academic year. With that in mind, the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency is lining up a series of free webinars - which launch tomorrow - aimed at helping students and families. Beginning the night of Memorial Day and continuing through the summer until Labor Day, Taps is played in Gettysburg. The program, in its ninth year, called 100 nights of Taps, is organized by Wendy Allen, a Gettysburg gallery owner known for her paintings of Abraham Lincoln who serves as president of the board of directors for the Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania. On this episode of Destination on the Left, I talk with Patrick Keyes, Sales and Marketing Manager at Rainbow Air Helicopter Tours in Niagara Falls, about why he believes in coopetition and how collaborations with his competitors have helped him be successful. Patrick explains why being a first call partner to your local and regional DMO is so important, and how you can position yourself to be that partner. He also offers valuable advice on how to work collaboratively at trade shows to build success. What You Will Learn in This Episode: How Patrick developed a regional, visitor-centric mindset by looking beyond traditional industry boundaries Why Patrick firmly believes that coopetition drives success for individual businesses and the broader destination What innovative steps Rainbow Air Helicopter Tours is taking to transform into a year-round, multifunctional attraction, including their new facility and virtual reality experiences Why partnering with local and regional DMOs (Destination Marketing Organizations) allows you to maximize marketing opportunities and industry influence Strategies Patrick uses when attending industry trade shows to represent both his own company and the wider Niagara region, and how this approach builds stronger relationships How Patrick seeks out unconventional partnerships, like collaborations with wineries and golf courses, to create memorable experiences and extend visitor stays in the region Leveraging Collaboration for Year-Round Tourism One of Rainbow Air's boldest moves has been the development of a new 30,000-square-foot tourism center. This ambitious facility isn't just a ticket counter; it's set to become a hub of activity through every season. Traditionally, tourism in Western New York peaks from Memorial Day to Labor Day, but Patrick and his team saw the need for more. The new tourism center, set to open over Memorial Day weekend, will feature a range of amenities, including gift shops, restrooms, and innovative virtual reality attractions, such as parasailing over Niagara Falls. By offering a range of experiences and amenities, Rainbow Air aims to both attract off-peak visitors and encourage them to extend their stays, laying the groundwork for sustainable year-round tourism. The Power of Partnerships A recurring theme throughout Patrick's career is the essential role of strong relationships with Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs), regional partners, and fellow attractions. As part of Rainbow Air, he is able to attend trade shows globally, but Patrick insists on representing the region, not just his company. “Know your audience, do your research, and come prepared to advocate for not only your attraction, but complementary experiences that round out the destination,” he advises. Forming partnerships with other attractions enables a rising tide that lifts all ships. Being proactive, communicating openly, and showing a genuine commitment to representing the community as a whole are so important. When DMOs trust that you'll be a reliable, high-quality option, you're top of mind for press trips, FAM tours, and state-led opportunities. Creative Collaborations Rainbow Air's vision for cross-industry cooperation doesn't stop at helicopter tours. Patrick is exploring partnerships with local wineries, golf courses, and historical sites. Imagine custom packages where visitors enjoy an aerial tour before being whisked away to a vineyard for a picnic. Or collaborating with the local wine trail for multi-stop experiences. By thinking creatively about what both locals and travelers want, Rainbow Air extends an invitation for everyone to participate in the region's success. What excites Patrick most is not just Rainbow Air's growth, but the chance to be “a beacon” for others in Niagara Falls. By investing in innovation and actively inviting everyone to the table, he hopes to create a mutually beneficial model, one where attractions, large and small, lean on each other to make the region irresistible and vibrant, every season of the year. Alma Deutscher, often described as a modern-day Mozart, was a prodigy whose early accomplishments include composing a piano sonata at age six, a short opera at seven, a violin concerto at nine, and her first full-length opera at ten. At twelve, she was profiled on 60 Minutes, and in 2021 began conducting studies in Vienna with Johannes Wildner. Now 20, Alma has just written her first ballet score—a collaboration with Lincoln Jones, founder and director of American Contemporary Ballet (ACB) in Los Angeles. Lincoln joined me on the podcast just over two years ago, offering unique insights into the complexities of running a dance company and the profound art of dance itself. In this episode, Lincoln and Alma discuss their new ballet, The Euterpides, inspired by Euterpe, the ancient Greek Muse of Music. This piece follows the Muse's goddess daughters as they descend to dance with a mortal, exploring the age-old connection between inspiration and craft. We recorded this conversation on Memorial Day to get it out ahead of the ballet's world premiere, which runs June 5–28 in Los Angeles. If you're local (or can make the trip!), you'll also hear about an audience support campaign, offering a rare chance for the public to get involved in bringing this ballet to life. GUEST BIO Alma Deutscher has composed a number of acclaimed orchestral works, including a full-length opera, by the age of 10. Her music has been performed at Carnegie Hall and the Vienna State Opera. She's earned the admiration of classical music luminaries like Zubin Mehta, who called her “one of the greatest musical talents of today.” Lincoln Jones is the founder, director, and principal choreographer of the American Contemporary Ballet in Los Angeles. Their collaboration, The Euterpides, premieres on June 5. Want to hear the whole conversation? Upgrade your subscription here. HOUSEKEEPING

Despite facing obstacles, House Republicans were able to meet their Memorial Day deadline to pass President Trump's "one big, beautiful bill." Now it's off to the Senate, where Republicans concerned about its impact on the deficit could make modifications that would send it back to the House. Additionally, the White House is preparing to send a rescissions package to Congress — an initiative designed to codify certain spending cuts identified by DOGE. FOX News Digital Politics Reporter Elizabeth Elkind breaks down what all of this means and what's to come. Then, Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) discusses his criticisms of the 'one big, beautiful bill' and his plans to investigate the last administration's attempt to cover up the declining mental fitness of former President Biden.
