In this episode of Just Wondering with Norm Hitzges, Norm and Mary Hitzges look backward and forward at the same time — tracing the remarkable evolution of the Super Bowl while unpacking a franchise-shifting decision by the Dallas Mavericks. Norm begins with Super Bowl 60, revisiting how the game went from an awkward, half-empty afternoon in 1967 to the most powerful annual spectacle in American sports. From $12 tickets and $42,000 commercials to today's $8–10 million ad slots, Norm explains how the Super Bowl's growth mirrors the transformation of sports, television, and money itself. Along the way, he shares unforgettable history — including Max McGee's hungover heroics in Super Bowl I and the astonishing reality that neither network bothered to save the full game tape. The episode then shifts to the present, where Norm breaks down the Dallas Mavericks' decision to move on from Anthony Davis, effectively closing the book on the Luka Dončić era. Norm explains why the trade wasn't about talent — Davis was still productive when healthy — but about flexibility, criticism fatigue, and long-term cap strategy. With Dallas now projected to have $44 million in cap space, Norm outlines how the Mavericks may follow a patient, Oklahoma City–style rebuild built around flexibility, draft assets, and opportunistic trades. It's a thoughtful episode about growth, money, patience, and perspective — from the Super Bowl's unlikely beginnings to a franchise trying to find its next identity. Just Wondering_1.mp3 ⏱️ Chapters (YouTube-Friendly) 00:00 – Super Bowl Sunday questions and today's themes01:26 – The origin of the Super Bowl name02:10 – From $12 tickets to $10M commercials02:58 – 32,000 empty seats at Super Bowl I04:57 – Why the full game footage was never saved05:53 – Max McGee's hungover Super Bowl legend06:49 – Super Bowl 60 matchup and betting context08:02 – Why defense still wins Super Bowls08:56 – Transition to the Mavericks' big move11:09 – Anthony Davis traded and what it really means11:54 – Criticism fatigue and why Dallas wanted out13:20 – What the Mavericks actually received14:15 – The real prize: $44M in cap flexibility15:40 – Following the Oklahoma City rebuild model16:21 – Pieces Dallas still likes going forward17:18 – What Dallas ultimately got for Luka18:27 – Sponsors and closing thoughts19:19 – Final sign-off Check us out: patreon.com/sunsetloungedfwInstagram: sunsetloungedfwTiktok: sunsetloungedfwX: SunsetLoungeDFWFB: Sunset Lounge DFW Just Wondering is a long-form sports commentary podcast hosted by longtime broadcaster Norm Hitzges, offering thoughtful, numbers-driven analysis of the NFL, college sports, the NBA, and the business and culture surrounding them. ‘Organized crime groups are subcontractors for the Netanyahu government's destruction of Israel's Arab society'

This week, President Isaac Herzog declared that the record-high homicide rate in Israel’s Arab sector constitutes a “national emergency.” But according to Knesset member Aida Touma-Sliman, the organized crime groups behind the violence in Israel thrive because “this is a policy conducted by the government.” “Crime groups are their subcontractor for the destruction of our society, making us terrorized individuals looking only to live their lives quietly. When you are struggling for the basic right to live, you forget all about struggling for other political, economic and social rights,” Touma-Sliman said. She noted that only 10 percent of the murders of Arabs are solved – down from 40 percent under past governments – and in stark contrast with the Jewish sector, in which a vast majority of cases are closed. “A very bad message is being sent by the police to the murderers and criminals: that you can do whatever you want and nobody will touch you as long as it remains among the Arabs,” she said. Touma-Sliman said she was convinced that if National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir believed that the stashes of deadly weapons in the hands of Arab crime organizations were to be used against Jews, “he would know exactly how to smash them down. But he is not willing to do it, as long as they are only committing crimes among the Arabs. He is enjoying the scene.” Touma-Sliman also discussed the reunion of the Joint List, the reasons behind her decision not to run in the coming election, and her deep disappointment with Israel’s opposition parties and “so-called left.” Opposition leaders “are not supposed to personally replace Netanyahu,” she said. “If you want to be an alternative, be courageous enough to create a different vision for how the citizens of Israel should be living and how Israel should be as a state.” Read more: Netanyahu Moves to Pass Off Arab Crime Task Force From PM's Office to Ben-Gvir MK Aida Touma-Sliman: 'The Knesset Symbolizes Everything I've Fought Against. Not once—but daily. Problems, people, shortages, and unexpected turns will all show up with the same quiet suggestion: maybe you can't do this after all. In this episode, I'm bringing clarity to why those moments aren't setbacks—they're invitations. When you decide to keep your word, you're not denying reality. You're choosing which reality gets to lead. Circumstances will always try to speak first. The difference between winners and everyone else is simple: winners don't let circumstances finish the sentence. Keeping Your Word When Circumstances Push BackA winner's life isn't easier—it's more intentional. When something goes wrong, most people immediately translate it into limitation. But the moment you do that, you surrender authority over your thinking. Keeping your word means remembering that everything you need is already present, even if it hasn't taken form yet. Why Problems Exist in the First PlaceProblems aren't punishments. They exist to stretch identity, not destroy it. Each challenge asks a quiet question: Will you let this define you, or refine you? When you keep your word, you train your mind to move through resistance instead of retreating from it.Growth isn't about avoiding difficulty. It's about refusing to let difficulty decide who you are. Valdosta State University history professor (and Episodes 334 and 244 guest) Tom Aiello is back — this time for an intriguing look at one of the most politically and culturally charged nights in American sports history: Muhammad Ali's comeback fight against Jerry Quarry on October 26, 1970, in Atlanta. After nearly three and a half years in professional exile, Ali returned to the ring having lost far more than his world heavyweight title. His refusal to be drafted into the Vietnam War had stripped him of his license to box, cost him his prime athletic years, and turned him into one of the most polarizing figures in the country. By 1970, however, the nation had changed. Public opinion about the war had shifted, Ali's moral stance looked increasingly prescient, and the question was no longer if he would return — but where and on whose terms. Atlanta provided the answer. The fight was as much a civic and cultural event as a sporting one, staged before an audience that reflected the city's rising Black political, economic, and social leadership. Civil rights figures, elected officials, entertainers, and power brokers filled the arena, transforming the evening into a declaration of legitimacy and self-determination. Ali's presence — confident, defiant, unapologetic — symbolized a broader shift in who held cultural authority in America. Quarry, a skilled and respected heavyweight contender, became the necessary counterpart in Ali's rebirth. The fight itself ended swiftly, with Ali winning by third-round stoppage, but its significance far outlasted the final bell. Drawing from his new book "Return of the King: The Rebirth of Muhammad Ali and the Rise of Atlanta"Ali," Aiello helps us understand how this night fused boxing, politics, and spectacle — how Atlanta became the stage for Ali's return, and how the event marked a turning point not just in his career, but in the public embrace of a new, unapologetic vision of Black power and identity. ALSO: A computer pits Ali vs. Rocky Marciano in "The Super Fight"; the curious ringside inspiration for "Uptown Saturday Night"; and the notorious tale of Gordon 'Chicken Man' Williams, as fictionalized in 2024's "Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist". In this episode, I speak directly to the quiet habit that keeps most people stuck: waiting. Waiting to feel ready. Waiting for clarity. Waiting for permission. And while it feels harmless, that delay quietly determines everything that follows. Why Your Future Depends on You Making Decisions NowEntrepreneurs think differently than most people. They don't wait for certainty. They decide first, then allow the path to reveal itself. Time becomes irrelevant. Money becomes secondary. What matters is the internal decision to move, act, and commit—fully. How Responsibility Shapes the Future You ExperienceWhen your future depends on you, excuses lose their power. Let's unpack how emotional maturity, discipline, and daily focus create momentum that compounds over time. The people who win aren't more talented—they're more decisive. This episode is a grounded reminder that clarity comes after commitment, not before it. Your future depends on you choosing today—because five years from now will arrive whether you decide or not. Episode 37 – Gratitude Series: Part I – Personal ResponsibilityEpisode 55 – Decisions, DecisionsEpisode 698 – Become the Person You Need – Close the Back Door You are successful on paper… but why doesn't it feel like freedom? In February, I'm bringing together a group of driven entrepreneurs for a 2-day business intensive where we strip away the fear, resistance, and patterns that quietly cap your growth, and get you clear on your next breakthrough. Together, we'll uncover what's been holding you back, claim the freedom you've been chasing, and walk away with the clarity and courage to lead your business — and your life — on your terms. And because business growth isn't just about mindset, Steph Tuss is teaching a special marketing session on the latest business-building tactics that are working now. This week, we pull back the curtain on one of the most seismic shifts in American sports and culture: the explosive rise of legalized sports gambling. Once condemned as a corrosive menace to the integrity of competition, betting on games is now a pervasive part of how fans watch, interact with, and spend on sports. But at what cost?  Our guest, journalist Danny Funt, has spent years investigating the forces behind America's betting boom. His new book, "Everybody Loses: The Tumultuous Rise of American Sports Gambling," lays bare how fantasy sports startups, professional leagues, and tech platforms helped normalize wagering — transforming billions of everyday fans into active gamblers.  Drawing on explosive interviews with former sportsbook executives, VIP hosts, lawmakers, and people who've seen their lives upended by addiction, Funt reveals how the industry is engineered to benefit the house and keep bettors coming back for more. We'll explore how a 2018 Supreme Court decision ignited this rapid expansion, how major leagues reversed decades-long opposition to gambling, and why the odds are stacked against individual bettors' success.  Along the way, Danny explains the social, economic, and ethical consequences of marrying sports and wagering — from the relentless barrage of advertising to concerns about corruption, exploitation, and long-term harm.  PLUS: Your chance to win a copy of "Everybody Loses" in this week's trivia contest!  + + +   SUPPORT THE SHOW: Buy Us a Coffee: https://ko-fi.com/goodseatsstillavailable The "Good Seats" Store: http://tee.pub/lic/RdiDZzQeHSY BUY THE BOOK:  "Everybody Loses: The Tumultuous Rise of American Sports Gambling": https://amzn.to/3YYEeAF SPONSOR THANKS:  Royal Retros (10% off promo code: SEATS): https://www.503-sports.com?aff=2 Old School Shirts.com (10% off promo code: GOODSEATS): https://oldschoolshirts.com/goodseats FIND AND FOLLOW: Linktree: https://linktr.ee/GoodSeatsStillAvailable Web: https://goodseatsstillavailable.com/ Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/goodseatsstillavailable.com X/Twitter: https://twitter.com/GoodSeatsStill YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@goodseatsstillavailable Threads: https://www.threads.net/@goodseatsstillavailable Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/goodseatsstillavailable/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GoodSeatsStillAvailable/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/good-seats-still-available/

Want your team to run smoother and your stress to drop? We sat down with Cardinal Legacy Towing Group's CEO, Kurtis Barks, to unpack a simple idea with outsized impact: put the right people in the right roles and teach leaders how to lead. From towing and recovery to body shops and insurance, the same patterns show up—great operators get promoted, then drown in management chaos. Kurtis walks us through the Trailblazer Leadership Retreat, a two-day, small-group experience built for owners and managers who need real tools, not vague motivation. Think role scorecards, decision frameworks, candid coaching, and a peer network that lasts. We dig into the Culture Index and how a 10-minute survey can cut turnover, stabilize hiring, and reveal strengths you can actually use. You'll hear how a struggling salesperson became a standout finance pro once his natural wiring had a place to shine. The results aren't theoretical: better safety, fewer miscasts, faster onboarding, clearer meetings, and more resilient margins. We also talk about training that respects time—concise classrooms, more instructors, and a calendar of schools rolling out nationwide. If you've ever felt stuck working in the business instead of on it, this is your map out.Beyond operations, we spotlight service and legacy. Kurtis shares the story of Guns and Hoses and BackStoppers in the St. Louis region, supporting families of fallen first responders with real, lasting help. That spirit is baked into the retreat's design: small, practical, and people-first. Seats are limited to 30 for deep work and stronger connections, with priority access for attendees to bring their teams later in the year. Ready to swap firefighting for leadership that scales? S3, Ep : 24. Paradores of Spain: Sleeping in History, Chasing the EclipseIn this new episode of Spanish Loops, we travel through one of Spain's most unique and quietly ambitious success stories: Paradores de Turismo. More than just a hotel chain, Paradores is a living idea: one born from the need to protect Spain's historical heritage while opening the country to travelers in a thoughtful, dignified way.The concept emerged in the early 20th century, when Spain realized that its castles, monasteries, palaces, and fortresses could have a second life. Instead of becoming ruins or museums frozen in time, they could welcome guests. The very first Parador opened in 1928 in the Sierra de Gredos, setting the tone for a model that blended hospitality, preservation, and national identity. From that moment on, sleeping in history became part of the journey. But Paradores are not just about beautiful rooms with thick stone walls and dramatic views. Over the decades, they have played a key role in boosting local economies, supporting rural areas, creating stable jobs, and protecting regional traditions. Their kitchens became ambassadors of local gastronomy, turning traditional recipes into something to be proud of, refined without losing their soul. Staying in a Parador often means tasting the region as much as seeing it.Today, Paradores stand as a symbol of Spain's public hospitality model: elegant, rooted in history, and deeply connected to place. They represent a national style of hostelry that many countries admire and few have managed to replicate. And in this episode, there is a big surprise.Jorge reveals a project he has been carefully developing for over a year: an extraordinary 2027 eclipse tour. During the longest total solar eclipse visible on Earth in the next 200 years, Ceuta (Spanish territory in Africa) will sit right at the center of the path of totality. We'll experience the eclipse fromthe Parador of Ceuta, with the rest of the journey unfolding in Southern Spain near Málaga and finishing in the historic city of Cádiz. It will be summer, but don't be fooled by the heat. We'll be by the water constantly and the Mediterranean and Atlantic breeze cools the temperature down. And yes, we'll cross the Strait of Gibraltar by helicopter. WestJet also made economy class seats non-reclinable, offering passengers the option to pay extra for adjustable seats. In a news statement, the company said it will reverse what it called the "densified seating" by removing the additional row of seats.WHO DO YOU BLAME?Samantha (Sam) Taylor was appointed WestJet Group Executive Vice-President and Chief Experience Officer March 2025. Sam joined Sunwing in March 2020 as Chief Marketing Officer. Sam's portfolio is accountable for critical touch points in the guest journey and includes leading all Marketing, Guest Experience and Contact Centres for WestJet and Sunwing Vacations. MMStakeholders!Customers: WestJet's rollout of the reconfigured seats has sparked widespread outrage among travelers and even crew members.Employees: Reuters reported that pilots and flight attendants have raised concerns over the new configuration's comfort and safety, specifically whether passengers could safely evacuate the plane in an emergency due to the confined seating.Journalists: Reuters reported that pilots and flight attendants have raised concerns over the new configuration's comfort and safety, specifically whether passengers could safely evacuate the plane in an emergency due to the confined seating.Labor Unions: Alia Hussain, president of the union local representing WestJet cabin personnel, said: "It created a hostile working environment for us as cabin personnel."Onex Corporation, WestJet's publicly traded ownersWhich is really founder and board Chair Gerry Schwartz (annual Chair fee of $1 million), who maintains 100% control of the Multiple Voting Shares (MVS) of Onex Corporation, which effectively grants him 60% of the total voting power in the company. This control allows him to elect 60% of the members of Onex's Board of Directors. While he also personally holds a significant portion of the Subordinate Voting Shares (SVS)—roughly 11.3% as of late 2024—the primary mechanism of his control is the MVS class. All stupid U.S. dual class dictatorships who do not do this!!The "Sunset" Provision: In May 2023, Onex shareholders approved a plan to implement a "sunset" on these special voting rights. Under this agreement, Schwartz's multiple voting rights are scheduled to expire three years after the effective date of the amendment (roughly May 2026).Current Status: As we are currently in early 2026, Schwartz remains the controlling shareholder. Upon the "Event of Change" later this year, the Multiple Voting Shares will convert into Subordinate Voting Shares, and he will lose his absolute control, shifting the company toward a more traditional governance structure.Matt Damon says Netflix wants to make action movies differently to account for shorter attention spansHow the art of filmmaking is being subvertedThe "Say What You Do" Rule: Writers are frequently being told to eliminate subtext. In traditional filmmaking, if a character is sad, you show them staring at a cold cup of coffee. Now, streamers often request that the character explicitly say, "I'm just so sad right now," or have another character ask, "Why are you so sad?"The Reason: If you are looking at your phone during a silent, emotional shot, you miss the story. If the character says it out loud, you can follow the plot without looking at the screen.Heightened Audio Cues: If you've noticed that modern movies have very aggressive sound design—sudden loud bangs, dramatic musical stings, or high-pitched notification-like sounds—it's often intentional. The "Audio Hook": These sounds act like a "ping" to pull your eyes back from your phone to the TV. It's a literal alarm clock for your attention. The "First 10 Minutes" Mandate: In the past, a movie could have a "slow burn" opening (think 2001: A Space Odyssey). Today, Netflix and other streamers use data that shows exactly when a user hits the "Back" button. The Note: Writers are told that a "major event" (an explosion, a death, or a massive hook) must happen within the first 2 to 5 minutes. If the "inciting incident" happens at the 20-minute mark, the data shows they will lose 30% of the audience to TikTok.Centered Framing: Cinematographers are increasingly being told to keep the "important" action in the center of the frame. The Reason: This makes the content easier to view on a mobile device if the user decides to switch from the TV to their phone, or if they are watching a cropped "clip" of the movie on social media later.Increased "Recapping": Have you noticed characters summarizing what just happened more often? The "TikTok Brain" Fix: Because people are multitasking, they often lose the thread of the plot. Streamers now encourage dialogue like, "So, let me get this straight, we have to get the key from the vault before the guard returns in five minutes?" It's a recap for someone who tuned out for the last three minutes.WHO DO YOU BLAME?Netflix: Ted Sarandos & Greg Peters (Co-CEOs of Netflix), Reed Hastings, Jay HoagDrug CEOs (re: The Algorithm): Passive Viewing: Data shows that up to 94% of people use a phone while watching TV.TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew: TikTok is widely considered the pioneer of the "Short-Form Video" era. Its algorithm is specifically designed to provide "intermittent reinforcement" (like a slot machine), which studies suggest can reduce the ability to focus on long-term tasks.Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg: Zuckerberg pivoted Facebook and Instagram (Reels) to aggressively compete with TikTok. Critics argue this transition turned a platform for connection into one of "passive scrolling" that further erodes focus.YouTube CEO Neal Mohan: Under his leadership, YouTube Shorts was launched to capture the short-attention-span market. Even YouTube co-founder Steve Chen has recently warned that these short videos are "shrinking kids' attention spans."Smartphones: Former Apple CEO Steve Jobs MMStanford: The "Father of Persuasive Tech": B.J. FoggStanford's Persuasive Technology Lab, run by B.J. Fogg, taught many of the founders and early employees of Instagram and Facebook. The "Fogg Behavior Model" taught engineers how to use "triggers" and "rewards" to change human behavior through software. He provided the scientific framework that allowed tech companies to treat the human brain like hardware that could be "hacked" for maximum engagement.Trump calls NYSE Dallas expansion plans 'unbelievably bad' for New York: Trump says move poses 'big test' for newly inaugurated Mayor Zohran Mamdani. WHICH HYPOCRISY DO YOU BLAME?The Free Market BullshitTrump and Texas leaders have long championed the freedom of businesses to flee blue-state regulations. However, now that a prestigious icon like the NYSE is actually expanding to Dallas, Trump has pivoted to calling it "unbelievably bad" for New York. The Anti-Woke /Anti-ESG scaremongeringTexas frames itself as a "Sanctuary from Socialism," yet the Texas Stock Exchange (TXSE) is being used to bypass ESG transparency. While railing against woke mandates, these leaders are creating their own ideological silos—demanding a protected market where management isn't held accountable by shareholders for social or environmental impacts.Texas AG Ken Paxton described BlackRock, State Street, and Vanguard as an "investment cartel" that was "illegally controlling national energy markets" and "squeezing more money out of hardworking Americans."Paxton sent a formal warning to Larry Fink and other CEOs, stating that their "radical environmental policies" and "race-based quotas" (DEI) would face severe enforcement actions if they prioritized "politics over consumers."Lead by example: Trump quits NYC and Musk's Dexit to Y'all StreetThroughout his 2024 campaign, Trump consistently compared New York unfavorably to states like Florida and Texas: as an example, he pointed to the lack of state income tax in Florida as a reason why "everyone is leaving New York." Elon Musk's Dexit from Delaware/California is sold as a strike for freedom, yet his empire is built on nearly $40 billion in government subsidies and contracts. He moved to Texas to escape over-regulation (re: his pay package and people being mad about nooses in his factories) while simultaneously heading the most over-regulatory body ever: Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).Leader name calling and scaremongeringTrump's pre-bromance attacks on New York's new mayor, Zohran Mamdani (communist lunatic" and a "Marxist"). Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson (UPenn, Harvard, Princeton): "un-American socialist impulse" and explicitly marketed Dallas as a "sanctuary from socialism" for businesses looking to Dexit New York. The Elite vs. Common Man NonsenseDespite bullshit Y'all Street populist framing, the Texas Stock Exchange is backed by the world's most powerful financial titans. There is no common man victory here; it is the CEO class moving the financial capital to a jurisdiction with fewer labor protections and less oversight. The Big Four Anchor InvestorsBlackRock: (managing ~$14 trillion), despite being the primary target of "anti-woke" and anti-ESG rhetoric from the same politicians who support the TXSE.Citadel Securities: Led by Ken Griffin, this firm executes roughly 1 in 4 of all stock trades in the U.S. Left Chicago for Miami.J.P. Morgan Chase: Jamie Dimon. Joined in 2025 during a $90 million funding round and holds an observer seat on the board.Charles Schwab: handles over 50% of U.S. retail stock orders.MATTWalmart International CEO Kath McLay to step down - WHO DO YOU BLAME?Half exiting CEO Doug McMillonMcLay was under McMillon her entire tenure at WalMart, raised to CEO of the international divisionClearly a protege - passed over for the new CEO?Incoming CEO John FurnerThe white guy who became CEO is such an interesting new story, but Furner started as a sales clerk and has been with the WALTONS a long time through Sam's Club as CEO, another Walton jointFurner/McMillon/Walton family named David Guggina CEO of Walmart US (passing McLay), Chris Nicholas replace McLay, Seth Dallaire was made chief growth officer… rounding out an all male promotion cycle of new execs - no women in major positionsMaybe McLay read the tea leaves - women got chief legal and chief of people, like everywhere else, but leave the big jobs to the swinging dicks. The compensation and management development committee, who according to the company charter, ir responsible to “periodically review and recommend to the full Board succession planning practices for the Company's CEO and other executive officers.”Carla Harris (chair) - black woman with “multicultural” in her job description at Morgan Stanley who apparently didn't apply “multiculturalism” to Walmart executive search?Marissa Mayer - yes, THAT Marissa Mayer, who is on the board of Starbucks with Brian Niccol and AT&T where Randall Stephenson was CEOBrian Niccol - CEO of Starbucks, with no conflict by having Marissa Mayer on the same boardRandall Stephenson - ex CEO of AT&T, with no conflict of interest by having Marissa Mayer on the board. Also on the board - Tom Horton, ex CEO of American Airlines who was… CFO of AT&T under StephensonShishir Mehrotra - who worked at Google via YouTube when… Marissa Mayer worked there (she was in search/maps)Kath McLay, who just couldn't cut it at Walmart anymoreAn SEC official has said (implied) you don't HAVE to vote your proxies as an investor - WHO DO YOU BLAME?Brian Daly, who gave a speech titled (Re)Empowering Fiduciaries in Proxy Voting on Jan 8 in which he argued that not voting doesn't necessarily violate fiduciary dutyGamblers: “Not voting makes sense in many situations. Look, for example, at quantitative and systematic managers, who often operate models that merely seek exposures to identified sources of alpha.”Index investors: “But it may be appropriate for these categories of investment advisers (and the Boards that exercise oversight over this function) to consider whether taking positions on fundamental corporate matters, or on precatory proposals, is consistent with their investment mandates.”Hedging himself: “So, there is no stock answer to the “Must I vote?” question... Instead, it is important that advisers and clients have a fair amount of latitude to decide what works in their individual cases.”Threatening using proxy advisors: “And if we are raising issues for consideration, I will also mention, because the President did, that there is real concern out there that habitual adherence to a proxy consultant's recommendations could pull an adviser into a Section 13(d) group.”Investors, because no matter what Brian Daly suggests, investors almost never vote against management and neither do proxy advisors, so what the fuck are we talking about?Cost, because Daly points out, “And in assessing proposed votes, investment advisers might utilize the Fiduciary Interpretation's concept of a “reasonable inquiry into the client's objectives.” If an investment adviser routinely follows a proxy advisor's stock recommendations without a tailored engagement or independent analysis, is this “reasonable inquiry?” Maybe, but it is certainly worth thinking about. And, to go back to the first question, if the voting process is so burdensome that it requires extensive external resources, why is the adviser voting at all?”John Chevedden, along with Jim McRitchie, without whom we have maybe half the shareholder rights as SP500 companies, and who the no-action data is now showing is disproportionately getting responses for exclusion from the SEC (as if to double down on the idea that we can ignore those commie socialists entirely, but we want to tell you explicitly you're totally legally cool and there's no threat if you exclude Chevedden). Chevedden might be the reason investors were voting at all - maybe now they won't have to?

https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/ins.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM709_MDM_Nov8_25.mp3   I learned early on that people are always buying. That wasn't an inspirational idea — it came from watching myself stop two calls short on a Friday and realizing I was training my mind to quit before the win. That moment shifted how I think about time, action, and personal responsibility. Why People Are Always Buying (and why it matters)When I worked for someone else, I lived for the moment I could clock out. Once I stepped into running my own company, the truth became impossible to ignore: buyers don't move according to my preferred schedule. They move when I show up. And they keep buying — even through December — when most people mentally check out. I reworked our entire calendar, sold straight through the holidays, and it changed everything. How the “next step” becomes real wealthEvery time I take the step I'd rather skip — make the call, send the message, ask the question — something in me changes. Not eventually. Immediately. That's why people are always buying isn't just about sales. It's a mindset about identity, consistency, and meeting the moment instead of waiting for the perfect one.Everything you want sits in the step right in front of you. Your next sale, your next level of confidence, your next opportunity. And it's available because people are always buying — and the moment you move, the whole trajectory shifts. Author and baseball historian Keith Wood ("The Memphis Red Sox: A Negro Leagues History") joins the show to explore the rich yet often overlooked story of the Memphis Red Sox, one of Black baseball's most resilient and community‑rooted franchises. From their semi-pro origins in the early 1920s to their run through the Negro Southern, National &  American Leagues, the Red Sox embodied sustained Black ownership and stability in a turbulent era for segregated sports. Wood details how the Martin family, a group of influential African American professionals, uniquely controlled both the club and its home field, giving Black Memphis rare economic and cultural autonomy around the ballpark. We dig into the social life of Martin Stadium, where Sunday doubleheaders doubled as civic gatherings and a showcase for elite Black talent passing through the Mid-South. The Red Sox story features future Major Leaguers and other notable figures who wore the Memphis uniform - including Dan Bankhead, Bob Boyd, Buck O'Neil, and even country music hall-of-famer Charley Pride - and what their stories reveal about the broader pipeline from the Negro Leagues to integrated baseball.  Wood also explains how the forces that followed Jackie Robinson's breaking of the color barrier led to the slow decline and eventual disappearance of the franchise by the end of the 1950s - while leaving behind a powerful legacy of entrepreneurship, community pride, and baseball excellence. https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/ins.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM708_MDM_Nov6_25.mp3   I've been thinking a lot about how easily people hand their power away, and it always comes back to the same principle: the authority of truth. When I'm rooted in what's real, I don't need anyone to validate my choices. I don't need a title or a role to lead. Truth gives me the ground I stand on, and once I'm there, everything gets simpler. How the Authority of Truth Shows Up in Daily DecisionsI rely on a simple question: Is this true or not true?  It cuts through fear fast. Most hesitation comes from old stories, imagined outcomes, or the hope that certainty will magically show up. When I come back to truth, the noise drops away. Choices become clearer. Action becomes obvious. That's the quiet strength the authority of truth creates. Truth-Based Authority in Leadership and SalesIn sales and leadership, truth removes the pressure to perform. I'm not trying to impress anyone or win approval. I'm simply honest about the value, the situation, and my intention. That honesty creates authority, not the kind you force, but the kind people feel. When I stay aligned with what's true, conversations move more naturally, and decisions unfold without struggle. The Steady Power of Choosing TruthChoosing truth is rarely dramatic. It's steady. It's clean. It keeps me out of emotional storms and brings me back to what's actually happening. Over time, that consistency becomes a source of quiet authority, real authority, because it's built on something that doesn't move. Episode 674 – The Divine Giving Mindset: Giving vs Getting Episode 671 – Conversation Mastery: Positioning Yourself as the Authority Episode 655 – Sales Influence Without Manipulation You are successful on paper… but why doesn't it feel like freedom? In February, I'm bringing together a group of driven entrepreneurs for a 2-day business intensive where we strip away the fear, resistance, and patterns that quietly cap your growth, and get you clear on your next breakthrough. Together, we'll uncover what's been holding you back, claim the freedom you've been chasing, and walk away with the clarity and courage to lead your business — and your life — on your terms. And because business growth isn't just about mindset, Steph Tuss is teaching a special marketing session on the latest business-building tactics that are working now. She'll also answer your most pressing marketing questions. Seats are limited. If you want in, secure yours now.
