Episode 160 | This episode is a saving grace for anyone who struggles being consistent on social media. Because you're NOT alone. Sometimes I struggle too… I don't always know what to post. I sometimes second-guess myself. And I even doubt if my efforts matter. But fret NO more.
Recently, I have been spending a lot of time with several other travel professionals who, frankly, are fed up! With what? Well, there are a number of individuals claiming to have some sort of experience in the travel industry, with absolutely nothing to back it up. These are people who range from accounts with fake followers - to absolutely no long-term website presence - to now having to compete with AI for traffic numbers. But, with all the fast changes in the industry, I believe that true one-on-one experiences are still the best in the tourism space and cannot be manufactured. Of course, these individuals are not everyone, as there are amazing creators in the space of travel & tourism, and I also have a belief that there are many who have talent but have no idea where to begin or how to communicate. So, I have decided instead of fighting the battle or simply just being angry about it, that I would help. I will share my travel experiences- not just the locations, but the “How To” with those who want to hear and learn. Learning is a lifelong journey, and I am always gathering and processing new information. It makes me sad how many friends I have made in tourism positions who, as I said, are frankly fed up with individuals who are giving Travel Writers, Content Creators, and Influencers a bad name. So, if you're willing to learn, I am going to start sprinkling in the “How To” for those of you out there having trouble connecting in the tourism space into episodes of the My Town Travels Podcast, equipping you with practical knowledge to navigate the industry more effectively. So, where to begin? The travelpreneur side of My Town is always asked the big broad question: “How do you do what you do?” And the broad answer is always… “with a lot of work.” Like any profession, there is a lot of behind-the-scenes real work that goes into the end product. With Travel & Tourism, I would venture to say that 80% of what goes into the finished product is on the back end. Content Gathering, Content Creation/Writing, Editing, Website and Social Presence and Maintenance, and Coordinating Visits with Destinations all go into making a simple post where the end user gets to see the pretty pictures, captions, and stories. So, whether you're new to how this works and want to learn, you're in the industry and want to hear a refresher, or you're just genuinely curious, we invite you to listen in as we start this conversation, making sure everyone feels included and part of the journey! In addition, you will hear: *Background on Host, Kristy Burns * How To set your Purpose & Intention Regarding *Becoming a Travelpreneur *Intro to Engagement, Mission & Vision --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mytowntravels/support

Christine Hemphill started Open Inclusion in 2018 as a disability-inclusive research and design organization that is working at the intersection between accessibility and emerging technologies. She makes sense of the broad spectrum of disabilities by saying, "I talk about people that think, feel, move, sense or communicate significantly enough differently that they're excluded from the way design works today. So to me that's disability." Hemphill's phenomenological framing of disability reminds me of Bernd Schmitt's 1999 article on Experiential Marketing where he defines the "strategic experiential modules" as being "sense, feel, think, act, and relate." VR researcher Dustin Chertoff drew upon this experiential marketing research to expand VR presence theory into the domains of "sensory, cognitive, affective, active, and relational." In my own elemental approach of presence theory, I conceive of it in terms of Embodied Presence from sensory experiences, Active Presence of agency and interactivity, Emotional Presence of emotional immersion, and Mental Presence including the cognitive plausibility and sensemaking aspects as well as the Social Presence and communication dynamics with other people. Each of these approaches have commonalities that seen when juxtaposing the frameworks from Hemphill, Schmitt, Chertoff, and Bye together: Sense, Sense, Sensory, or Embodied Presence Think, Think, Cognitive, or Mental Presence Feel, Feel, Affective, or Emotional Presence Move, Act, Active, or Active Presence Communicate, Relate, Relational, or Social Presence There are experiential design implications for how to accommodate for a broader spectrum of thinking, feeling, moving, sensing, or communicating differently. Hemphill's slide shown at XR Access lists more details of this spectrum including move differently (mobility, dexterity), sense differently (hearing, sight, touch), feel differently (mental health), think differently (memory, learning), communicate differently (social, communications), and other access needs (mental health, chronic health, neurodivergence, neurodiversity). Hemphill also lists out contextual dimensions to consider including finances, social resources, education, digital literacy, and just access to that technology in general. In addition, there is also a spectrum of how adaptable folks are given the novel nature of emerging technologies. But defining the spectrum of these variations and differences helps to identify the experiential design considerations when thinking about providing multiple options to users. We'll be diving into some of those universal principles of design and emerging XR heuristics in the next interview with Reginé Gilbert as well as throughout the course of this series on XR Accessibility. This is a listener-supported podcast through the Voices of VR Patreon. Music: Fatality

Sign up to all live workshops and podcasts here: https://lu.ma/fullfunnel3 ways to target and warm up B2B buyers if they are not active on social. If you're selling to technical teams or conservative industries, your buyers may not be active on social. Hence, ads and cold outreach are doomed. Here are several ways to reach and warm up them.1. Partner with niche associations and communities.Do a co-marketing activity (event, webinar, panel discussion, market research, etc) making sure that the association or community will help with intros and promotion. One of our clients managed a relationship with an HVAC association to book 23 meetings with technical buyers from target accounts.2. Send highly personalized offers via direct mail. Why direct mail?- Direct mail cuts through the noise of spammy sales LinkedIn and email messages- Relevant gifts grab attention and provoke curiosity- Highly-personalized pitch and the relevant case study make target accounts reply YES just because it's not standard, and they see you did homework. We have a 100% reply rate for every direct mail outreach campaign we send at Fullfunnel.io. Our clients see positive reply rates of around 40%-60% per campaign.3. Build a peer-to-peer relationship to gain additional insights and ask for introductions.Even if your target buyers are not active on social, there are other departments that might be (sales, marketing, client success, data, etc.).Build a peer-to-peer relationship.Plan co-marketing activities.Ask your peers to connect your team with target buyers. These 3 ways take way more time than launching and running ads and outreach. They seem to be non-scalable.But this is one of the biggest problems B2B companies create for themselves. They look wrong at scalability.Putting $$$ into Ads machine, hiring more SDRs, and investing in automation seems to be predictable and scalable.Emails sent and ads impression - Clicks - Meetings booked - I wish B2B growth was that easy.Scalability comes from focusing on systems that actually deliver results. It requires a long-term mindset and strategy. Even if these systems require a lot of human effort to ignite the engine and maintain growth. There are no shortcuts to growing a B2B business.RESOURCESOn-Demand B2B Marketing Courses: https://fullfunnel.io/b2b-marketing-cFull-Funnel Insider - A Marketing Newsletter For B2B Marketers: https://fullfunnel.io/marketing-newslJoin our community for B2B marketers - The Trenches: https://sendfox.com/trenchesUpcoming events: https://lu.ma/fullfunnel/eventsFull-Funnel Marketing Content Hub: https://fullfunnel.io/blogStapho Thienpont оn Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stapho/

Over the past decade, social media became a primary way for consumers to connect with large-scale businesses. It offers public transparency to customers which empowers their voices, and it gives companies an opportunity to build trust among their followers. In this episode, B2B tech influencer and content creator Evan Kirstel shares his insights on how some companies use social media to its full potential and how others use it in ways that could harm their brand identity. How many of us made cup phones as kids? They were awesome, right? Simple, pure, and all you needed was a string, paper cups, a pencil/needle to punch a hole through the cup, and paper clips. Then Ta-Da you had phones to chat with our buddies. My question to you all is how much better is communication in the automotive industry today than the cup phones we made as children? I know I lost some of the audience on that question. I can guarantee there are some of you out there saying “Brooke, we have cell phones, video calling, text messaging, CRMs, and all this technology. Of course it is better.” I would agree that the world has improved its technology, but that is not the question. The question is “how much better is communication in the automotive industry today?”Knowing how imperative communication is in any industry, it should be effortless. Do you find that it is indeed effortless for you, our employees, and our customers? Think of your last doctor or dentist appointment. Did you schedule it online, over the phone, or via text? Did the office send text reminders, automated phone reminders, or some email reminder? What about afterwards, what was the follow up? What happened if you needed to change/reschedule the appointment? Now think of your last automotive service or sales appointment. Was any of this done through text messaging? Was any of it automated? If you are at a store, did you manually have to input all of this? Did any of your “awesome” technologies actually talk to each other to make any of this a seamless process for anyone? Do I need to beat the drum again that this is the second biggest purchase made in a person's life? Why the hell does the medical community have better Text/SMS offerings than automotive? Why is the appointment setting and confirmation process so damn archaic?I have been pleading with anyone that knows me for years to please come up with something to fix this issue. Gregory Cooper and SocialMiningAi not only heard me, but took it to a whole new level. On SocialMiningAi's site, one of the first lines of text states “The most intelligent real-time customer search, discovery and engagement platform.” This is a super bold claim. Join me as I sit down with Gregory Cooper, Founder & CEO at SocialMiningAi, as we dive into why they can say this. Gregory and I will dive into the importance of having a real Social Presence and Reputation Management with a SMS Platform. Yes, you can have your cake and eat it, too! Meet Jeanine Turner, Ph.D.:Jeanine Turner, Ph.D. is a Professor for the Communication, Culture, and Technology Program and an Affiliate Professor for The McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University. She is the author of “Being Present: Commanding Attention at Work (and at Home) by Managing Your Social Presence.” Professor Turner received a Bachelor's in Communication Management and Masters in Organizational Communications from the University of Dayton, and a Ph.D. in Communication Studies from Ohio State University. Key Insights:Professor Jeanine Turner, Ph.D. is an expert on the intersection of communication and technology. What is Social Presence? Social presence is the feeling of connection when communicating with another person. This is heavily influenced by format of communication such as face-to-face conversations, email, and texting. Don't Multi-Communicate. You've heard of multi-tasking; multi-communicating is similar and people are just as bad at it. It's communicating with multiple people at the same time, such as having a face-to-face conversation while texting someone else. The best practice is to focus on one conversation at a time.Implementing Social Presence. When thinking about different communication strategies, Professor Turner recommends reflecting on who is your audience, what is the content, and what is your message. These variables will help you decide the right type of presence to engage in. What is your first thought or reaction when you get this text message? “That's fine.” The sender could have meant “I agree with everything you just said/ suggested,” or “I have no opinion and will have no problem with the option you've chosen,” or “that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard but I'm going with it because I don't care to contribute to the decision.” The issue with text messaging as the medium is that without any other incoming information, the receiver simply can not tell what the sender really means. This is just one aspect of communication that must be considered when choosing the correct medium for your message. Today's episode will answer and discuss these popular questions: What is meant by “medium” and what are the different types?Presentational, Representational, and Technological/ Mechanical How do I know which is the right one to use so I don't give off the wrong impression?Social Presence and Media Richness How do I teach my teen (or anyone) to understand and apply this?
