Have we grown too familiar with the wonder of Christmas? In this Advent conversation, Jason Watson is joined by theologian, author, and apologist Dr. Amy Orr-Ewing to explore why the incarnation is not only wondrous but reasonable—and why Christmas remains one of the church's greatest evangelistic opportunities. From Mary's courageous “yes” to the credibility of miracles and the cultural openness of Advent, this episode invites leaders and believers to rediscover the depth, wonder, and missional power of Christmas. Key Takeaways The Christmas story invites honest questions and skepticism rather than suppressing them The incarnation is presented in Scripture as extraordinary—but grounded in evidence and eyewitness testimony Mary's voice in Luke's Gospel reveals agency, consent, and profound theological insight Early Christians reframed—not compromised—culture to proclaim Christ as the Light of the World Advent creates unique spiritual openness marked by longing, memory, and reflection Christmas is not just a celebration—it's a strategic moment for gospel proclamation Preachers and leaders are called to recover awe, not sentimentality, in telling the Christmas story If this episode encouraged you, subscribe to the Lausanne Movement Podcast, leave a review, and share it with a pastor, leader, or friend preparing for Advent. Consider how you might intentionally use the Christmas season this year to invite others to encounter Jesus. Despite rapid changes in the workplace and technological advancements, many leaders continue to rely on outdated “command and control” methods. In this episode of Paradigm Shifting Books, hosts Stephen and Britain Covey continue their powerful conversation with their father, Stephen M. R. Covey, about his groundbreaking book Trust and Inspire. Part 2 of the discussion dives even deeper into how leaders can shift their mindset, their language, and their relationships to become the kind of leader people actually want to follow.Stephen explores the difference between managing things and leading people, the practical application of stewardship agreements, and how even in moments of pressure, when our “style gets in the way of our intent”, we can choose to lead with trust and inspiration. From stories about Steve Jobs and Lin-Manuel Miranda to personal family experiences, this conversation makes Trust and Inspire practical, relatable, and transformational. The episode also highlights how trust and inspire leadership apply far beyond the workplace, in parenting, teaching, coaching, and everyday relationships. Because at its core, leadership isn't a position, it's a choice. If you've ever wondered how to balance accountability with empowerment, or how to unleash the potential already inside your team, this episode offers the roadmap. What We Discuss[00:17] Introduction[01:29] Steve Jobs and the tension between inspiration and micromanagement[07:00] Command and control as the “native tongue” of leadership[08:07] Becoming a Trust and Inspire person before becoming a leader[10:16] The difference between management and leadership[16:00] Lin-Manuel Miranda's teacher and the power of seeing potential[19:04] Why Trust and Inspire is not just idealistic, but practical[25:13] Practical steps: clarifying expectations and accountability[32:30] A practical invitation: identify one relationship to transform with Trust and InspireNotable Quotes[13:00] “Always remember this: with people, fast is slow and slow is fast.” — Stephen M. "There's a big difference for me in living and being alive. There's a difference between breathing and truly experiencing life." - Todd WhitthorneMy guest this week Todd Whitthorne joined me for a conversation that goes far beyond the balance sheet to explore the true meaning of well-being. We explore the five pillars of well-being (fitness, nutrition, sleep, stress, and prevention), the difference between "lifespan" and "healthspan," and why investing in yourself is the least selfish thing a leader can do.The episode concludes with the incredible true story of Todd's 70-year-old friend who survived being hit and run over by a drunk driver, which is a powerful testament to how a lifelong commitment to fitness creates true resilience. Trust in leadership is eroding, with only about one in five employees reporting confidence in their leaders (Gallup, 2023). What's going wrong—and more importantly, what does it take to lead in a way that earns trust? The answer to this question is simply bringing our authentic selves to our leadership. Research on authentic leadership shows that effective leaders don't follow a specific checklist of traits or styles. Instead, leadership grows from a much deeper place: our life stories. Drawing from interviews with over 100 leaders and thousands of pages of transcripts, researchers found that great leadership is shaped through real-world challenges, self-reflection, and a willingness to lead from our values. Discovering Your Authentic Leadership Authentic leaders aren't simply “being themselves”—they're doing the ongoing work of knowing themselves. That includes: -Reflecting on life experiences, including adversity, to understand what drives them -Practicing their values, especially when it's hard or costly -Balancing extrinsic rewards (recognition, promotions) with intrinsic purpose (meaning, impact) -Building strong support teams that offer perspective, truth, and unconditional encouragement This research challenges the idea that leadership is about image, status, or "executive presence." Instead, proposes effective leadership grounded in honesty, clarity, and the courage to lead with integrity—even when it is uncomfortable or comes at a price. Our life experiences are what can create a platform for strong leadership - everything from working with some not-so-great bosses to how parents, losses, and major setbacks can unexpectedly shape our leadership style. Authentic leadership isn't about having all the answers. It's about having the courage to live your questions out loud. Another good read: Why Trust in Leaders Is Faltering and How to Gain It Back.

Trust is crucial in leadership. In fact, it's the superpower every leader needs. It's what holds teams together, builds strong relationships, and drives high performance and growth. In this episode of Reflect Forward, I explore why trust is essential for effective leadership. I share stories and stats showing how trust impacts business success and explore three ways to harness trust as a superpower: trusting yourself, trusting others, and being trustworthy. Why Trust is So Important in Leadership Healthy, growing cultures are built on trust and are crucial to a company's success. A survey by PwC found that 55% of business leaders see a lack of trust as a major threat to their company's growth. That's a big deal. Trust Yourself Becoming a trusted leader starts with trusting yourself. This means having confidence in your abilities, decisions, and judgment. It's about being genuine, knowing your strengths and weaknesses, and sticking to your values. When you trust yourself, you come across as confident and dependable, which helps others feel safe taking risks and innovating. Self-trust is also the foundation of resilience. Leaders who believe in their instincts and capabilities better handle uncertainty and make tough decisions. They inspire the same confidence in their teams, creating a culture of empowerment and accountability. Trusting yourself isn't just about personal growth; it sets the tone for your organization. Trust Others Trusting yourself is important, but equally important is trusting others. This involves more than just delegating tasks – it's about empowering team members and believing in their potential. Trusting others means giving them the freedom to make decisions and learn from their mistakes. It's a powerful way to show that you have faith in your team's abilities, which in turn builds mutual respect and loyalty. When leaders trust their teams, it sets off a positive chain reaction. Employees who feel trusted are more engaged, motivated, and committed to their work. In fact, a Gallup study found that employees who feel trusted by their leaders are 14 times more likely to be highly engaged. This high level of engagement translates to better productivity, innovation, and overall success. Be Trustworthy To make trust a superpower, you need to be trustworthy yourself. This means being consistent, reliable, and transparent. It involves keeping promises, being honest about challenges and mistakes, and acting with integrity. Trustworthy leaders can be counted on to do what they say and say what they mean. Being trustworthy is key to credibility and influence; it's hard to be credible if people don't believe you. Trustworthy leaders inspire their teams to be trustworthy, creating a ripple effect that strengthens the whole organization. Conclusion Trust is more than just an essential trait for leaders; it's a superpower that can transform organizations. Why Trust is the Foundation of a Great Team Leader Amy's introduction to the world of public relations began with an internship at General Mills in Minneapolis, where she embarked on a nationwide media tour promoting Columbo yogurt. This initial experience in creating events and generating newsworthy moments paved the way for her subsequent role in Chicago, where she led an agency for several years. Given the reins to manage the agency and make decisions on behalf of the owners, Amy was entrusted with a high level of autonomy, allowing her to hone her skills in agency management. The owners recognized Amy's capabilities and confidently relied on her to drive financial results and effectively lead the team. This level of trust empowered Amy to exercise her decision-making freedom, take calculated risks, and ultimately steer the agency toward success. One of the key lessons Amy learned during that time was the importance of trust in managing people. She learned to look at each team member beyond their functions at the agency and to support them as people during significant transitions such as starting a family or sick parents. Trust is the foundation of any successful team and is essential for fostering collaboration, communication, and accountability. However, as the years went by she started to think about the next chapter in her career and realized she needed to build something of her own before the end of her career. It was the one thing she felt she hadn't done in business, so she took the leap and made it happen. Laying the Foundation: Structuring for Sustainable Agency Success The hardest part of agency ownership for Amy in this first year has been client management. As the owner, she feels the weight of ensuring that clients are well-served and remain long-term partners, all while focusing on establishing a sustainable business model, team development, and policies. While these were tasks she had undertaken before, it is now her responsibility to create a cohesive structure for all these elements to function effectively. When it came to expanding her team, Amy faced a significant decision: transitioning from relying on independent contractors to seeking full-time hires. While some may view full-time hires as unnecessary or risky in the first year of business, Amy believed it was the right move for her agency. She chose to initially build her senior team, bringing on board a senior vice president and a vice president whom she had previously worked with and trusted to deliver. Now, she is gearing up to make additional mid-level hires to provide further support for the senior team. Building a 7-Figure Agency by Leveraging Connections Amy had already established a solid footing in the business world when she launched her agency in 2023, having cultivated strong connections within the industry. She attributes her agency's rapid growth to these relationships. In addition to capitalizing on her existing network, Amy differentiated her agency by offering a unique blend of services, merging business communications expertise with sports communications and brand activation. This allowed her agency to appeal to a diverse range of clients and offer a comprehensive suite of services, secure business quickly, and establish a solid foundation for growth. Most people would be hesitant to leverage those connections and maybe doubt approaching them. In this sense, Amy emphasizes the importance of using LinkedIn to stay connected with past clients and colleagues, showcasing expertise, and leveraging relationships to drive business growth. As today's Rolodex, LinkedIn played an important role in building a network of people Amy had worked with in the past, met on new business pitches, and connected with over the years. It's the platform she used to reach out to people and let them know about her agency and where she was able to generate new business opportunities, secure referrals from vendors, and grow her client base organically. Navigating the Agency's "No Man's Land" by Setting Ambitious Revenue Goals After a year of incredible growth, Amy highlights is focusing on setting clear goals and objectives for business growth. One million dollars in revenue still seems unsteady for her, so she has the short-term goal of reaching $3 million in revenue and building a more sustainable operation. In addition, Amy is focused on evolving the agency's services as they continue to move forward. The point between $1 million and $4 million in revenue can feel like a no man's land where the agency owner is growing their agency but continues to be at the center of the operation. To get past that, owners need to gradually step away from day-to-day operations to focus on being the face of the organization, coaching the senior leadership, and setting the agency's goal and direction. Ultimately, agency ownership will always present different challenges at each stage. It'll never feel like the storm has passed and you can now relax. But as you move forward and seek to delegate part of the load, you'll find it gets easier. 3 Questions Every Agency Owner Needs to Answer Before Exiting At the end of your career, with all the crazier days of building the agency behind you, the thing you'll probably remember the most is the relationships you built. Working through challenges with a team, facing difficult situations together, and coming out stronger on the other side will be some of the most memorable parts of the journey, even more so than the wins. It's during these times when you find out what your team is made of and also who's willing to ride out the tough times with you and your agency. There are also good moments to see how well your team manages a crisis without having to run to you. Can they make the key decisions following the roadmap you created? This is when you'll know you can step back and enjoy more of your time. Is this necessarily the time to sell your agency and retire? It really depends on the person, but no one should even consider that option without a clear vision of what comes after the sale. In her case, Amy has learned entrepreneurs need to answer three questions: Have you done enough? Do you have enough? Will you have enough to do? If you have an answer for all — especially #3, then you are ready for the next stage of your life. Do You Want to Transform Your Agency from a Liability to an Asset? Why Trust, Readiness, and Humanity are Important in Crisis Management Shep Hyken interviews Chief Master Sergeant Brian P. Kruzelnick, a.k.a. Chief BK, Command Senior Enlisted Leader for U.S. Transportation Command. He discusses integrating crisis management and training into everyday business practices and organizational culture. NOTE: This episode of Amazing Business Radio is a departure from the emphasis on customer service and CX. He shared how he and his team managed major crises, such as 2021 evacuation in Afghanistan and humanitarian aid in countries that need it. While his “customers” are different than most of the people listening to this show, the lessons are powerful in any situation, big or small, including customer complaints and issues. This episode of Amazing Business Radio with Shep Hyken answers the following questions and more: How can effective crisis management contribute to a company's success and customer experience? How can leaders effectively prepare for and navigate crises in their organizations? What lessons can leaders learn from military training to enhance their organization's readiness for challenging times? How can leaders effectively build trust within their organizations? What role do empathy and humanity play in customer service and crisis management? Top Takeaways: In times of crisis, leaders must be prepared to respond effectively and execute plans thoughtfully. Just as the military trains for the worst moments, an organization can thrive even in chaotic situations by being well-prepared and having capable team members who understand their equipment and protocols. After an organization successfully handles a crisis or a "down day," the next step is thinking long-term and figuring out how to bake the solution into the culture. If you are making changes, make sure your employees understand where they fit in, how it affects them, and how they can contribute in a positive way. Consistent training contributes to an organization's culture of excellence. Like a well-maintained car, a highly skilled team delivers amazing customer service and effectively navigates every crisis. Onboarding sets the tone. Effective onboarding sets the norms and expectations within an organization. New employees must clearly understand their roles and align with the company's mission and values. Empowerment is when employees do not have a boss or someone with a higher position than them peering over their shoulders, they can still make confident decisions because they understand the organization's culture and their leaders' intent. Plus, Chief BK shares amazing crisis stories from the military that companies and customer support teams can learn from. Tune in! Quote: "Crisis either fractures or forges a leader. An organization can see how to go forward post-crisis by how the leader handled the situation during the crisis." About: Chief Master Sergeant Brian P. Kruzelnick, a.k.a. Chief BK, is the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for the U.S. Transportation Command. He is a military leader with over 30 years of experience in crisis management and disaster relief. The Intuitive Customer - Improve Your Customer Experience To Gain Growth
Personalization is an excellent tactic for your marketing efforts. However, only some people like this personalization; some feel they're being watched. Therefore, it is important to remember that context and who's doing the personalizing matter. Picture this: Colin's at his go-to fishing store, Discount Tackle. The manager knows him, we chat, and he recommends a lure. Even though Colin can snag it cheaper elsewhere, the personalized touch keeps him coming back. We've all got our versions of this – the local diner, your loyal barber, or maybe a small biz that fuels your hobbies. Small businesses nail personalization. But big companies? They play the tech card, crunching data to determine "personalized" offerings—not always a slam dunk. Why? With technology, the data sometimes gets too personal, and without a personal relationship supporting it, you're left feeling like the company is stalking you, not helping you. The trick is to balance personalization and privacy without making it weird. Discount Tackle gets it. They add value to Colin's fishing game. Spotify does well with personalization, too. It has cool features, like Spotify Wrapped and DJ playing mode, that enhance the music and user experience but aren't creepy. But then there's Facebook. Facebook dives deep into Colin's life for personalized ads, which he doesn't appreciate, nor do they enhance his experience. Remember: we do not pay for Facebook, but they're cashing in on us. Graham Hill on LinkedIn – he's all about putting the "customer" back in personalization. His take? Check your spam emails; they're not overly personal. He wants to see marketers' user personalization to send the message to the right people at the optimal time. We want personalization for a few reasons. It's like getting invited to an exclusive club when it's done right. Sainsbury's in England sends Colin discounts on stuff he buys. It is cool, not creepy. We also like familiar stuff. Plus, we appreciate the effort. In this episode, we explore the balance between personalization and privacy. We explain why brands should always consider who you're talking to, how you're doing it, and why. In this episode, you'll also discover: The Balancing Act of Personalization: Learn how to balance personalizing interactions and avoiding the "too much information" zone. The Differences Between Small vs. Big Business Tactics: Uncover how small businesses ace personalization in face-to-face talks while larger corporations use tech and the tradeoffs involved. Value and Purpose Dynamics: Explore the critical role of value and purpose in personalization and how it can make or break customer relationships. Why Trust and Context Matter: Understand the significance of trust and context in personalization and why it's not just about data but the emotional connection. The Critical Nature of Adding Value, Not Just Selling: Shift your perspective from collecting data for sales to providing genuine value, making customers feel respected and appreciated.

Have you ever felt “The Speed of Trust?” It's the “shortest route to results” (Robert Allen, author of Multiple Streams of Income), and “the one thing that affects everything else you're doing. It's a performance multiplier which takes your trajectory upwards, for every activity you engage in, from strategy to execution.” Stephen R. Covey I felt “The Speed of Trust” from the moment I asked our next guest if he would come on the podcast, knowing full well that he hasn't spoken on a podcast or radio show since around 2014, but I know that “when trust is high, communication is easy, instant and effective.” Watch this interview on YouTube here https://youtu.be/kCRjLyCKE40 On this episode you will learn: ✔︎ Who was behind the marketing strategy that took Stephen Covey's 7 Habits Book to sell over 40 million copies worldwide (surpassing the popular Think and Grow Rich book) in 40 languages. ✔︎ How exactly did Greg Link come to meet and partner with the late Dr. Stephen Covey and what dots were connected as he looks back over his career now. ✔︎ How “Inspired Action” a term coined by Jack Canfield helped many leaders forge a path where no one had ever been before. ✔︎ What the Covey Organization learned from taking their book to Japan, and how they became the best-selling foreign business book in Japan. ✔︎ How Dr. Covey simplified the 7 Habits, and his vision for this book from the beginning. ✔︎ The challenges that Dr. Covey had as they began their work in the K-12 school market, how they overcame these challenges, and created The Leader in Me program. ✔︎ How they overcame daily obstacles they faced and used the 7 Habits to move forward. ✔︎ How he came up with the idea for the 8th Habit. ✔︎ How Greg's expertise was recognized in the motivational speaking industry. ✔︎ Why Trust was a trait that was the center of The Speed of Trust, Smart Trust and their new book Trust and Inspire. ✔︎ What advice did Dr. Covey give Greg Link that changed his life, and how can you use this advice today? Welcome back to The Neuroscience Meets Social and Emotional Learning podcast, EPISODE #207, I'm Andrea Samadi, author and educator from Toronto, Canada, now in Arizona, and today's guest is someone I have mentioned often on this podcast. For returning guests, you'll be able to figure it out quickly. For those who are new, welcome. This episode is very special to me in many ways—not just with the fact that I consider myself beyond lucky to have had the opportunity to have met some of the world's most influential people at a time in my life (late 20s) when this influence was important for the direction that I would take, that would land me exactly where I am now, all these years later. While listening to today's episode, my hope is that this story inspires you in some way, to take action with whatever it is you are working on as I take you on a trip that goes back over 20 years ago, with the lessons learned along the way highlighted, so that you can see how some of the top influencers in the world have faced challenge, had doubts, fears and worries, and even unthinkably difficult life challenges that they all had to overcome, just like you and me. What was unique with this opportunity that I had while working in the motivational speaking industry in the late 1990s, is that I was driven to keep in touch with many of the speakers who came in over the years, (as you can see from this podcast) and this platform allows us all to continue to learn and grow from them with what author Jack Canfield would call Inspired Action (that I'll cover in a minute). Today's guest, I know we can all learn from which is why I knew I had to ask him to share his experience on this podcast. If you think back to our final episode of The Think and Grow Rich book study, EPISODE #196[i] that we launched 2022 with, we opened with a quote from Bob Proctor, who said ““You can't just THINK and GROW RICH, you've got to do something with those thoughts” and it reminded me of meeting some of these global leaders, around 20 years ago, including our guest today, Greg Link, and that knowledge is power, but without action, it's useless. It's got to be Inspired Action as well, that comes from the heart. The seminar where I met Greg Link was a pivotal one, and we'll talk about this in the interview, when Steve Jobs says, you can't connect the dots looking forward, only looking back. It was here that I met Mark Victor Hansen, who co-authored The Chicken Soup for the Soul Series with Jack Canfield, Presidential Historian Doug Wead from EPISODE #187[ii] and many others including celebrities like Melanie Griffith, and world class athletes who came in to speak. I met today's guest, Greg Link in the lobby of the Ritz Carleton in Pasadena, as he introduced me to his good friend Stedman Graham, the longtime partner of Oprah Winfrey, at the very beginning of this event. I remember at the time, I had just started to write my first book that would be published quite a few years later, The Secret for Teens Revealed, (that was originally called The Mentoring Excellence Now Program that was created when I worked with over 100 youth with physical disabilities for the Easter Seals Foundation) and when I met Stedman, and saw that he had just written a book for teens[iii], I remember that feeling of “oh no, I've missed the boat on this topic” but the message I would receive loud and clear this weekend from the speakers, was quite the opposite. I can still hear Doug Wead shouting out at the audience, in an attempt to motivate action from them, when he said, “Get up and do something” with this booming voice and I wrote down-move forward with publishing this book idea I had in my head. What shocks me to the core, looking back and reading my notes from this event, is that I had written Doug's age beside his name. 21 years ago, Doug Wead was 54. I'm turning 51 this year, and if you heard EPISODE #187, you'll know that Doug passed away unexpectedly last year, at the age of 75. I don't know how old you are, but I do know that whatever age you are, that there's no such thing as “missing the boat” with whatever it is you want to do. If that's not a huge motivator, I don't know what is. Remember, you can't connect the dots looking forward, only looking back. Everything I needed for success in my lifetime was right in front on me that weekend. They were all standing a shoulders length away from me. If you were standing next to someone who could possibly change the course of your life, would you see it? After I had recorded our Top 10 episodes of all-time, I got this strange feeling to ask Greg Link if he would come on as a guest. I mentioned taking “inspired action” at the beginning of this episode, and recognize this was one of those moments when I sent the message to Greg, but hesitated. Why was I afraid to ask him to do this? He's always been there, ready to help when I've asked in the past. He did an incredible testimonial[iv] for our work in 2013, AFTER those days working in the seminar industry, and he even wrote a back of the book endorsement for The Secret for Teens. I hesitated because I knew he had been off the grid for some time, but I asked him anyway. That's what Jack Canfield, who partnered with Mark Victor Hansen for the Chicken Soup for the Soul Series would call taking “Inspired Action.” I learned from Jack Canfield that those flashes of insight we get to reach out to someone, are important to listen to. I'm so excited to see what this Inspired Action will uncover, and know that whatever it is that you take away from these secrets to success from someone who not only worked with, but partnered with the late Dr. Stephen Covey, my hopes are that it inspires you to move forward, and take the Inspired Action needed, to move you in the direction of your goals. Let's meet Greg Link…. Welcome Greg!! Thank you for speaking with me today on what I am shocked is your FIRST podcast appearance? Before I get to the questions, I always like to open up with something that helps us to dig a bit deeper before we begin, and it has to do with the fact that you kept coming into my head the past few podcast episodes, as I do tie in past episodes to current ones, and after quoting you on the last episode, I thought “I've got to ask Greg Link to see if he would speak with me on my next episode” and I know we have kept in touch over the years, but I wasn't sure if this is something you would want to do, so I was a bit nervous before I sent you that message. I usually listen to those thoughts that come into my head (Jack Canfield called it taking inspired action)—so I wonder, if you would share what you have been up to the past few years, since I saw you last, and what did you really think when I asked you to come on this podcast? This leads me to go back to where your career began… Q1: How exactly did you come to meet and partner with Dr. Stephen R Covey, I know you've told me the story—I wonder if looking back, like Steve Jobs' incredible commencement address at Stanford, what dots were connected when you think back to that moment? Q2A: When I found that interview you did in 2014 with that Toronto radio station where you mention where your journey with Dr. Covey began--it made me wonder what qualified you to work in publishing and why did Covey pick you? What did you do that made Ken Blanchard refer you to Dr. Covey when he was launching the 7 Habits book? Q2B: 2 PART QUESTION--It's written everywhere how you took the 7 Habits Book to incredible heights, published globally in 40 languages. Can you explain what you did? Also 7 Habits is the best-selling foreign business book in history in Japan. How did that happen? Q2C: How did get Dr. Covey to “simplify” the habits to make them easier for people to understand? Why did you call him your recovering academic? Q3: I saw it when I first began, and so did you! I remember you telling me how difficult it was BEFORE Leader in Me launched in our schools. You gave me millions of tips BEFORE I went into the schools with my work, and I still met with challenge and obstacles. Can you share how difficult it was for the 7 Habits BEFORE it sold millions of copies worldwide, inspiring the Leader in Me curriculum? AND what led the 7 Habits into primary schools in the first place? Q4: We could spend a good week on my next question, because you've got some incredible life experience, with high levels of success and achievement reached, but I want to know about those times where things were difficult. Our audiences consist of educators, and those in the corporate workplace (around the world) who could benefit from your story that you told me where everything went wrong in Portland (I think) and Dr. Covey insisted that “the show must go on.” Can you tell this story, so we can all take some pressure off ourselves when it comes to presenting or speaking in front of others and wanting everything to be perfect? What about Distance Learning from Microsoft and Zoom? Q5: I think I like the 8th Habit the most, as that's what I've centered my life's work around (especially with this podcast). You mentioned to me that The 8th Habit almost didn't get published! What happened? 5B: What's YOUR favorite habit, and one that you find yourself working on the most? Q6: When I first met you, it was around 2002 when you came to consult with Bob Proctor and Mark Victor Hansen from the Chicken Soup for the Soul on their 3% Club seminars, around the same time Doug Wead came in, and I remember meeting you in the lobby of the Ritz Carleton in Pasadena, that's now called the Langham, and I remember that you were coming in to help impact change with the seminars back then. What do you remember about those days, and working with the seminar industry leaders? Didn't you also work with Tony Robbins and Werner Erhard? Q7: We've talked about your book with Stephen M.R. Covey, Smart Trust. I've got a Character Book on my laptop that I've held off producing (it was a compilation of lessons I used when I worked with schools) but will release it eventually. Trust has always been THE most important character trait for me. What was it about Trust that you thought was important for everyone to know-what was so important about Trust for you that you wrote a book on this topic? Q8: I know you've got another book on Trust coming with Stephen MR Covey (Trust and Inspire)…and in this low-trust world, I think this is the best time for this book. What's this next book about? Q9: I've got to ask a question about family, since I know it's an important part of your life, and the pandemic surely put the emphasis on family for us globally. Your family has gone through some really difficult times. For those listening, who may also be dealing with difficult times, what words of encouragement could you offer with your life experience in mind? Q10: As we think of all the habits, I like the 8th Habit the most, as it relates to our building our legacy (Find your Voice and Inspire others to find theirs. What advice can you offer for people listening as they might be working on the legacy they want to create, thinking of Dr. Covey as an example? Q11: What's next for you? Trust and Inspire, and then what? Q12: What are your final thoughts? For people who want to reach you, what's the best place? I'll be sure to put your Twitter, Linkedin and social media accounts, and I'm sure when this goes out, everyone will be reaching out to you for an interview. A lot of excitement was generated BEFORE I even asked if you would do this podcast today. Greg, I want to thank you for your time today, to share these secrets that only you would know. I'm so grateful we met, and that you took an interest in helping me along the way to find my voice, and help others find theirs. Where I am today is such a huge quantum leap from where y mindset was back when you first met me, so I'm forever grateful for the help, ideas and support along the way. I'm looking forward to Trust and Inspire coming out next month and learning more from you moving forward. This episode is far from over. My mind was blown while editing this episode as Greg mentioned so many book titles, that I do plan on creating a map of this episode, with his suggested book titles to guide us along the way. I do highly suggest grabbing this next book, Trust and Inspire, and taking on Dr. Covey's challenge of reading a book a week, like Greg has done over his career. His final challenge of writing out the 20 books that have changed your life, with your commentary, is something I will do in the future, and hope that this episode inspires you to take inspired action in your life. Check out Ari's Webinar: unlockthegame.com/webinar Summary Have you always struggled when it comes to selling? Want to discover the magic of trust-based languaging and why slowing down your sales process (not speeding it up) is the key to unlimited sales opportunities? In a day and age where technology rules the selling world, for many growth-oriented business owners and sales consultants, authenticity and trust have taken a “back seat” to the sales process. Ari Galper is the world's number one authority on trust-based selling and has been featured in CEO Magazine, Forbes, INC Magazine, SkyNews, and the Australian Financial Review. In this episode, Ari talks about the importance of trust in sales and how it is a magnet for success! He also shares the secrets of language in sales and its promising increase in sales. Check out these episode highlights: 02:01 - Ari's ideal client: “Ideal client is someone who basically isn't what I call a low volume, high price point, high margin model, using the visor, an entrepreneur, someone who has a large transaction long sale cycle, but trust is the core component, for them to make the sale actually happen.” 03:00 - Problem Ari helps solve: “The core problem that we solve is to help people learn how to stop chasing the deal. Stop closing the deal and stop chasing what I call "ghosts". Ghost people who say things like, "Sounds good. Send me information. I'm definitely interested." And they end up chasing them in a dehumanizing process that really is so dysfunctional.” 03:37 - Typical symptoms that clients do before reaching out to Ari: “Here's a core scenario. They're on a call with a potential client. A first conversation. And they asked the person on the phone, "So tell me about your business and what your problems are." And they describe their problems, and the minute you hear the problems your whole body and chemistry goes, "Oh, I can solve that for them." 04:42 - Common mistakes that people make before they find Ari's solution: “I'm going to ask your listeners who are watching this right now to remove one key phrase vocabulary as of today forever in their world, and here it is. Never again use the phrase, "Follow up" ever again in your business life! What's the only industry in the world to use "Follow up"? Sales!” 05:44 - Ari's Valuable Free Action (VFA): “Let's do a scenario right now. It may give somebody a really good idea. So, let's say in our first call with somebody. First sales conversation. The call is going well. They're qualified. Looks like it could be a good fit. Towards the end of the call, it comes to a close. Normally, we're taught to say things like, "Hey, how can we move forward? Let's have a cup of coffee. Let's do a demo. Let's go forward." 07:37 - Ari's Valuable Free Resource (VFR): Check out Ari's Webinar: unlockthegame.com/webinar 08:09 - Q: What has driven me on this mission for 20 years to help people get out of this dysfunctional situation? A: My son Toby, when he was born, we were told he had Down Syndrome. Well, I realized what a gift of heaven on my hands when I had this beautiful boy.
This is for you if you feel stagnated in your career path + you are hungry for more. I'm interviewing Sophie Clyde-Smith - aka the Modern Career Coach - about manifesting a mission full of soul fulfilment, developing side hustles, creating positive change through the work you do + transitioning your career path. If you're looking to create a career in alignment with your passions, values + beliefs (but not sure where to begin) then this episode will be music to your ears! The organic evolution of Sophie's business over the last 12 months will really inspire you - Sophie honestly shares about how developed the confidence to make the leap herself, how she finally made those niggling changes + what challenges she faced on that pathway. Highlights include: - Making change is hard. You must shine the light inwards + reflect on your beliefs, find your personal values, discover your motivations + identify your strengths. Defining these aspects helps you make aligned choices + manifest the positive changes you seek. - Why TRUST is a major part of finding your purpose. It takes time and commitment. Purpose is cultivated over time because it evolves. It will change as you change. You don't have to have everything perfectly mapped out right now. Trust in the process and in your beliefs to guide you on the right path. - Change will always create some anxiety and fear. Sophie candidly shares her experiences of this + the self- acceptance you must embrace during the process. Consistent commitment to taking action - even when it scares you - will make the difference. Ask yourself, what is the cost of inaction? What if you don't make the change? She provides some valuable exercises for overcoming those fears. - “Action is the best antidote to fear.” (38:00) - “My fulfilment has come from the freedom of being captain of my own ship.” (35:00) - “Perfectionism is often driven by limiting beliefs, it's a symptom of not feeling good enough or capable enough.”(29:00) - List of recommended books (54:50) CONNECT WITH AMY: UNAPOLOGETIC (new 2022 biz immersion) >>> https://amyrushworth.com/unapologetic Insta - @thisisamyrushworth Website - amyrushworth.com FREE ABUNDANCE BUNDLE - https://amy-rushworth.mykajabi.com/the-abundance-bundle Join Amy's OA Membership - https://amyrushworth.com/orgasmic-ascension CONNECT WITH SOPHIE: https://sophieclydesmith.com/ @sophieclydesmith
