When Drinking Becomes a Daily Requirement w/ Mike Schuab | The Hopeaholics PodcastIn this deeply personal episode, Mike Schuab shares an unfiltered account of how alcohol gradually took control of his life while he worked tirelessly to convince everyone—including himself—that everything was fine. What began as normal social drinking slowly evolved into secretive behavior, isolation, and a daily reliance on alcohol just to feel steady, leading to broken relationships, constant lying, and an overwhelming sense of shame. Mike walks through the moments when drinking stopped being fun and started feeling necessary, the fear of being exposed, and the painful realization that his life was shrinking around his addiction. He opens up about confronting his family, facing the possibility of losing everything he cared about, and finally surrendering by walking into treatment emotionally exhausted and out of options. This conversation dives into the emotional toll of addiction, the mental gymnastics of denial, and the relief that comes with radical honesty. Mike also reflects on the difficult process of learning how to live, cope, and find meaning without alcohol, and how recovery forced him to rebuild trust one day at a time. This episode is a powerful reminder that addiction doesn't always look dramatic on the outside—but the internal struggle can be just as devastating—and that real change begins the moment someone admits they need help.#thehopeaholics #redemption #recovery #AlcoholAddiction #AddictionRecovery #wedorecover #SobrietyJourney #MyStory #Hope #wedorecover #treatmentcenter #natalieevamarieJoin our patreon to get access to an EXTRA EPISODE every week of ‘Off the Record', exclusive content, a thriving recovery community, and opportunities to be featured on the podcast. https://patreon.com/TheHopeaholics Go to www.Wolfpak.com today and support our sponsors. What if the barrier to better mental health isn't knowledge - it's actually doing something about it? Most of us know meditation and gratitude are good for us, but how many of us actually practice them daily? In this honest conversation, Dr. Jodi Richardson speaks with Cooper Chapman about the gap between knowing what helps and actually taking action. Cooper shares his personal journey from professional surfer to mental health advocate, shaped by early losses to suicide and his father's struggles with depression in an era of "toughen up" masculinity. The conversation explores a deceptively simple question: Can we give just 1% of our day - 14 minute - to mental health? And more importantly, what would that actually look like in practice? Key insights from this episode: Why meditation isn't about being "good" at it - it's about showing up The water bottle metaphor: understanding why your mind feels so busy when you first sit down How to watch thoughts float by instead of getting swept away by them The difference between responding and reacting in challenging moments Five core values that support mental health: responsibility, gratitude, empathy, mindfulness, and kindness Why connecting with nature and our senses matters more than we realize Dr. Jodi shares a powerful personal story about empathy in a Woolworths checkout line that reminds us how regulation and mindfulness show up in everyday moments. The conversation also touches on eco-anxiety in young people, the importance of male mental health, and why making mental health "cool" matters. This episode is for you if: You've tried meditation and felt like you were "doing it wrong" You know what helps but struggle with consistency You're looking for practical, science-backed approaches that don't require hours of your day You want to understand how to be more present in daily life A refreshingly honest discussion about mental health that moves beyond awareness into actionable practices anyone can start today. App-Based Mindfulness Training Predicts Reductions in Smoking Behavior by Engaging Reinforcement Learning Mechanisms: A Preliminary Naturalistic Single-Arm StudyIn this episode, Dr. Jud Brewer and colleagues explore how mindfulness-based smoking cessation tools can target the brain's reinforcement learning mechanisms to disrupt addictive behaviors. The study highlights the use of the "Craving to Quit" app, which combines mindful awareness practices with real-time feedback on cravings and their outcomes. By recalibrating the reward value of smoking through mindfulness, the app achieved significant reductions in smoking frequency among participants. Discover how this research advances our understanding of habit loops and offers scalable, innovative solutions for smoking cessation.Full Reference:Taylor, V. A., Smith, R., & Brewer, J. A. (2022). Neck-related tinnitus is often caused by tension in the neck muscles.Main Causes of Neck Muscle TensionPhysical strain – poor posture, incorrect head position, or prolonged mobile phone use.Emotional factors – trauma, suppressed negative emotions, and unresolved thoughts.I address this with my hypnotherapy MP3. (I am a certified hypnotherapist.)Resistance to the tinnitus itself – when we fight against the sound, we create even more tension in the muscles. This too can be released with my hypnotherapy MP3.The SolutionHere are 4 simple neck exercises you can do daily—in the morning, throughout the day, and at night before bed:Slow head rotationsTurn your head gently left and right.A full 180° turn should take about 30 seconds.Forward and backward stretchesSlowly lower your head forward until your chin touches your chest. Then carefully tilt your head backward as far as it comfortably goes.Side tiltsTilt your head slowly to the left, then to the right.Neck circlesSlowly rotate your head in a full circle to the left, then to the right.Night RoutineBefore bed, listen to my hypnotherapy MP3 and simply follow my guidance. If you fall asleep while listening—even better.ResultsWithin one week, most people notice a clear difference. After 30 days, either the tinnitus is gone—or you stop caring about it, because your mind and body are at peace. My Video: How to Cure Neck-Related Tinnitus? https://youtu.be/VICtk6ZjZ08My Audio: https://divinesuccess.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/Podcast5/How-to-Cure-Neck-Related-Tinnitus.mp3https://divinesuccess.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/photosinternet/tinnitus-with-sleep2.mp3

In this episode of Tank Talks, Matt Cohen and John Ruffolo break down a pivotal week for Canada's innovation economy. Microsoft's $7.5 billion investment in Canadian AI and cloud infrastructure sets the stage for a deeper discussion about whether foreign hyperscalers can genuinely support Canadian data and AI sovereignty under U.S. laws like the Cloud Act.John challenges the assumption that scale equals sovereignty, arguing for a more intentional strategy built through government procurement, layered infrastructure, and selective partnerships. The episode also examines Canada's new Quantum Champions program and the funding directed toward companies Anyon Systems, Xanadu, Photonic, and Nord Quantique, questioning whether current capital levels are enough to prevent Canadian breakthroughs from moving south.Layoffs across the consulting industry surface broader shifts in knowledge work, as information becomes increasingly commoditized in the age of AI. Matt and John discuss how trust, execution, and implementation are replacing traditional advisory models as the real sources of value. The episode closes with a collision of crypto and legacy power, as stablecoin issuer Tether pursues a controlling stake in Juventus, raising new questions about regulation, asset backing, and trust. As foreign capital pours in and domestic funding lags, how much control does Canada actually retain?Microsoft's $7.5B Canadian AI Investment & the Sovereignty Question (01:04)Microsoft announces a massive investment to expand AI and cloud infrastructure in Canada. Matt and John unpack why foreign capital is welcome, but claims of “sovereign AI” raise serious concerns under the U.S. Cloud Act and data jurisdiction realities.Sovereign Compute Strategy: Procurement Over Promises (04:39)John outlines how Canada could realistically build sovereign compute capacity by breaking the stack into layers, using government procurement to back domestic players, and making intentional choices about allies, chips, and infrastructure.Canada's Quantum Champions Program: A Signal or a Solution? (07:49)The federal government commits funding to four Canadian quantum startups, including Xanadu. The discussion explores whether milestone-based funding is enough or if Canada risks losing its quantum leaders to U.S. capital markets again. Why Canadian Capital Isn't Backing Its Winners (09:04)Xanadu's SPAC decision becomes a case study in Canada's capital formation problem. John explains why strong companies still struggle to raise meaningful domestic capital and what that means for long-term value creation.Consulting Firms Face Layoffs as Demand Shifts (11:36)McKinsey and other professional services firms prepare for significant job cuts. Matt and John discuss overhiring during COVID, slowing demand, and how AI is compressing the value of information-based consulting. The End of the Traditional Consulting Pyramid (14:07)AI-driven efficiency challenges the apprenticeship model. The conversation explores why implementation and trust now matter more than slide decks and why junior-heavy consulting structures may no longer work.Forward-Deployed Engineers & New Service Models (16:17)From Palantir's FDE approach to new AI-enabled services firms, Matt highlights how execution-first models are eroding traditional consulting margins and reshaping enterprise problem-solving.Crypto Meets European Dynasties: Tether & Juventus (19:00)Tether's attempted acquisition of Juventus sparks debate around stablecoin backing, asset quality, and trust. John questions whether a treasury-backed stablecoin should ever be tied to assets like football clubs.Trust as the Core Currency of the AI Era (21:03)The episode closes with a clear takeaway: information is cheap, execution is hard, and trust is everything, from sovereign infrastructure to consulting, investing, and crypto.Connect with John Ruffolo on LinkedIn: https://ca.linkedin.com/in/joruffoloConnect with Matt Cohen on LinkedIn: https://ca.linkedin.com/in/matt-cohen1Visit the Ripple Ventures website: https://www.rippleventures.com/ This is a public episode. He had been living pretty well with kidney disease but I noticed changes. What to do? Is it time? We're coming into the holidays. Will the home visit vet be available? The day before they were to leave for a week with their son and daughter-in-law my sister and her husband were faced with the Rainbow Bridge decision for their good and faithful dog who had been ailing with cancer and old age. What to do? Cancel the trip? Find a dog sitter?Recently, my friend was placed in a position of having to leave a relationship because it had become very difficult and dangerous. What to do? How to do it? When to do it?Maybe you see yourself in these situations. I have a solution. The choice we're called on to make isn't between what is right and what is wrong. The decision is between what is right and what is best.My sister and I knew we had done right by our animal companions over the many years of time together and care. Now it was time to do what was best for them. Likewise, my friend knew that she had done what was right for the relationship; now it was time to do what was best for herself. Practical Tip: When faced with a situation that places you at a crossroads of what to do and how to do it, consider asking yourself: How might I choose between what is right and what is best? Year after year, season after season, next year will be the year that you start shooting does like you should. Forgetting that you are slipping further and further away from really growing bigger bucks. The pursuit of trophy bucks gets in the way so much during the season that you are so consumed by an objective of a single deer that you get further away from accomplishing the original goal. This is what we call the trophy buck death spiral. It's time to be honest with yourself and shoot does like you need to. If you are doing habitat management and not herd management, this podcast is for you. We chat in detail with Jack Hutson of Midwest Deer Survey about his consistent findings during thermal deer surveys. Consistently deer herds are twice the density that they need to be. That is a problem. It is in distinct opposition to growing trophy deer consistently. Listen and apply!

In her presentation for the IMMH 2023 conference, Dopamine Fasting: An Early Intervention for Compulsive Overconsumption in the Digital Age, Dr. Anna Lembke explains how the pleasure–pain balance in the brain – once an adaptive survival mechanism – has become dangerously dysregulated in modern societies. Drawing from cutting-edge neuroscience and decades of clinical experience, she shows how our dopamine-overloaded world of constant stimulation and "drugified" everyday activities have created unprecedented vulnerability to addiction, anxiety, depression, and unhappiness. Through her clear, compassionate teaching, Dr. Lembke reveals how repeated exposure to high-reward experiences alters the brain's reward pathways, driving down our baseline dopamine and contributing to the modern mental health crisis. Dr. Lembke brings a rare combination of scientific depth and clinical wisdom. Her work integrates neuroscience with the insights of recovery communities, and in this talk she introduces practical, accessible strategies for rebalancing the brain's reward circuitry. With characteristic clarity, she explains why dopamine fasting, behavioural recalibration, and the intentional pursuit of "healthy pain" can restore homeostasis and help patients overcome compulsive overconsumption. In this richly informative and hopeful session, Dr. Lembke outlines the Plenty Paradox – her hypothesis that overabundance itself has become a source of physiological and psychological stress – and offers evidence-based tools to help clinicians and patients navigate the modern dopamine ecosystem. By understanding how the brain processes pleasure and pain, and by intentionally engaging in moderate stressors, she shows that we can elevate dopamine in a more stable, sustainable way, improve emotional resilience and mental health, and regain healthy control over habits. In this episode, you will learn: Why overabundance and constant access to reinforcing stimuli have become major drivers of stress, addiction, and mental health symptoms such as depression and anxiety. How pleasure and pain operate like opposite sides of a balance within the same brain regions. How repeated exposure to intoxicants or high-dopamine behaviours lowers baseline dopamine and the hedonic set-point. Why modern life has "drugified" everyday experiences, making them more reinforcing and more accessible. Why dopamine fasting (short-term abstinence) is an effective intervention for resetting reward pathways. Why patients often feel worse before they feel better during a dopamine fast. How hormesis – the use of moderate, controlled discomfort – can elevate dopamine sustainably without a crash. Examples of hormetic practices such as cold exposure, exercise, fasting, prayer and meditation. Why "right-sized pain" matters, and how too much or too little discomfort can be counterproductive. Why behavioural activation, mindfulness and insight are crucial tools for restoring balance and supporting recovery. I hope you find Dr. Lembke's wisdom helpful during this age and season of overwhelm, and that you are able to enjoy your family, friends, work and rest with full focus and presence these holidays and beyond.

If you've ever looked around your home and felt that something just isn't working, you're not alone. So many people tell me they're frustrated with their space, but they can't quite put their finger on why. And when you don't know what the real problem is, it's almost impossible to find a solution that actually sticks. That's exactly why I've created a simple, three-part framework I call What's Your Problem? It's designed to help you diagnose what's going on beneath the surface so you can finally move forward with confidence, clarity, and a whole lot more breathing space.Over years of working with clients, I've noticed that clutter almost always comes back to one of these:1. A Quantity Problem – there's simply too much stuff.2. A Systems Problem – things don't have clear homes or logical flow.3. A Habits Problem – the daily rhythms that keep things running just aren't in place yet. Most of the time, the first layer we need to peel back is quantity. And I want to encourage you gently here: if you're not sure what your problem is, start by assuming it's this one. It usually is.A quantity problem doesn't mean you've “failed” or that your home is too small or too messy. It simply means you have more items than your space, your routines, or your season of life can comfortably hold.Maybe your kids' toys spill across the floor every day and the room never feels tidy, no matter how much you organise. Maybe your wardrobe feels overwhelming or your kitchen benches never seem clear. Those are classic signs of too much inventory — not a lack of containers, not “lazy kids,” and not poor habits. And the Solution? Decluttering — Gently and IntentionallyWhen you reduce quantity, everything else becomes easier. You don't need to declutter your entire house in one go. Just start with the space that's bothering you most and ask:What's rubbish? What can I donate? What can leave my home and lighten my load? You don't have to get it perfect. You don't even have to finish it. Every little bit of reduction creates more calm, more space, and more breathing room for your life to happen. But for now, start here: If your home feels overwhelming, it's very likely a quantity problem. And the good news? Quantity problems are absolutely solvable.Next week, we'll move into systems — the part where everything starts to click into place. You may also like to listen to these episodes:What's Your Problem?...
