What if Your Crazy is Calling You to Your Genius? Could it be that despite your fear, embracing the crazy or cracked parts of yourself might be immensely beneficial to your leadership? Let's face it; we've all been through our battles. Some are more severe than others. Consider this; the pain you are experiencing is not designed to break you but rather to break you open. What if you opened up and allowed yourself to fully experience that cracking, knowing that it is through those cracks the light could penetrate and illuminate what you may have hidden from yourself? Our guest for the next two episodes certainly understands that. Susan Clarke and her partner CrisMarie Campbell are the co-founders of Thrive Inc. They've spent 20 years helping men, women, couples, and teams to resolve difficult conflicts and create solid and thriving relationships. Susan Clarke and her partner co-host a podcast, The Beauty of Conflict, and have given presentations on conflict resolution, communication, teamwork, and creative problem-solving at Fortune 100 companies like Johnson & Johnson, Microsoft, AT&T, and Nationwide, and at the Gates Foundation, University of Washington Medical Center, San Francisco Giants, and many others. Yet, at 24, Susan's entrepreneurial path became a quest to find a solution to a terminal cancer diagnosis. What Susan discovered was Crazy, Cracked, Warm, and Deep, which is the name of her latest book; her memoir. This is a stirring history; however, it's also a primer on how to locate and remember the broken and separated parts in each of us, clearing the pain so the dark spots get the needed light to live forward. This is the final episode of the show! After 128 episodes, I have decided to practice that I preach, and make the tough call on priorities and pressures in my life, which means this show will be setting with the sun today. Whether that's forever or for now is not relevant because "forever" is not happening today. With all the demands on my time, I have been facing my own burnout – something I've had as a central theme in many episodes in this show. To protect and love myself, I've taken an inventory of all the things that I am committed to, where they are in the grand scheme of building toward my goals, whether they've served their purpose, and how I might be able to move forward without them. Though it was a hard decision I've grappled with for several months, ending the show here made a lot of sense. Do a Day is not going anywhere, however, with all the resources at your fingertips, as ever. You can still get the book in paperback, Kindle, Audible, Apple Books, Google Play Books, Nook and more. You can still do the Do a Day Masterclass, or sign up for 1-on-1 coaching with me. And the entire back catalog of episodes of the show will still be available for you to go back, listen to, and grow from. With all the stories and inspiration in the 127 episodes that I've released before this final one, I know there is at least one spark that every person in the world could use to start the flame that lets you Go Out and Do It! Respect for all my past guests: Season 1 I kicked the show off sharing the story of Do a Day. Charlie Gilkey shares about how being smart makes you strong. Evan Ruggiero reminds us through his cancer batter that rising up even when half of your world vanishes is possible. Amy Schuber taught us that you are the inspiration you seek. Ryan Caligiuri shared his mantra that there are no set backs, only set ups for what's next. One of my favorite artists, MC YOGI, talked about how all things grow in darkness Anne Sugar shared her battle with cancer as a way to see how you can trust your body even when it betrays you. Chris Wirth hit on his message of never quitting on living the life you deserve. David Ralph reminded us about the power in our lives if we connect the dots. Claude Silver shared her story (for the first time) of why she is who she is today and how that's showed her the importance of Heart in leadership. Michael Nulty talked about his multiple suicide attempts and how he found rebirth out of depression. My good friend, Aaron Keith Hawkins, talked about how we need to have influence over ourselves if we want to influence anyone else. Kelsey Abbott helped us Find Our Awesome through self-confidence and curiosity. She also gave me a quote I've used almost daily, "What you I say is about me. What you hear is about you." Dorie Clark reminds us of the important of perseverance and consistency if we want to achieve our greatest goals. Sonya Looney, world female mountain bike endurance champion, was just awesome, but had a key message around vulnerability and honesty with ourselves. She also gave me another gem of an idea around being stuck. Rather than being negative about the feeling, she recognizes it's a sign of something big being about to happen. Tim Fargo talked about the humility and balance we can find in unexpected places like failure. The amazing Dr. Jason Brooks shared the importance of being dedicated to finding your purpose and its transformative power on our lives. Jen Arnold shared her story around food and her weight and how that inspired her to change how we look at wellness and knowing ourselves. Lee Havern shared how he overcome depression and recognized the interconnectedness between mental and physical wellness. Emmitt Muckles left us charged up and recognizing that prosperity has nothing to do with money. Terri Levine, who lives in extreme, debilitating pain, showed how you can still find power and heart and use that to create something. Leigh Martinuzzi talked about finding his hidden Why and what that can unlock. The great Dick Vitale shared a power packed message of inspiration and making the choice to get up and move forward no matter what hits you, as he's done throughout his life. Season 2 Steve Gordon showed how falling down may be necessary to reach new heights Robb Holman talked about the power of letting go so we can find meaning and purpose Lindsey Heiserman inspired us to not let our past stories be part of our right now Charise Colbert shared her journey coming out of domestic abuse Sara Quiriconi talked to us about how to live free of all the cancers in our life Syd Finkelstein on how to be a Super Boss leader Ariana Robinson Danquah shared how to rise up when you're stuck in the middle Jon DeWaal gripped us with his story of falling off a roof and how that helped him see how to get through life's toughest transitions John Zeratsky talked about what he discovered to achieve the most, and it has nothing to do with productivity Josh Perry taught the power of gratitude even in the face of life's greatest challenges if you want to come through them thriving Mark Crandall shared his trauma story to help us see how facing our trauma's allows for growth Adam Schaeuble got us all fired up, and he also inspired with his approach to reimagining your life – and making it come true Sandy Vo talked about her journey to find clarity and peace despite a foundation of turmoil Cornell Thomas is the epitome of the "What's Next?" attitude winning over the "Why Me?" mentality Sandra Younger taught us her Come Back approach to be a victor, not a victim of tragedy Jenn Swanson talked about her journey off loss, gratitude and realization that you are your best investment Howard Jacobson shared how losing his father inspired his mission to fight diseases of ignorance with the wisdom of lifestyle Brooke Siem retold her amazing journey navigating her way out of a life of medication for mental illness into a life of discovery Tanur Badgley showed how to become a person of purpose through his journey starting with a fall off the side of a mountain Gary Bertwistle talked about the power of authenticity and discovering your mojo Frank King went into how thoughts of suicide taught him to go after what he really wanted, and why so many people need support as they face moments that lead them to these thoughts Mary Shores talked about the power of serving others as she went from dented to thriving Nick Elvery shared his journey from addiction to peak performance and what sparked the change Jaime Jay got vulnerable as he retold his story of multiple experiences with homelessness to being in a place of gratitude and contentment Dai Manuel talked about the importance of living as you need to, from your own perspective Blaire Palmer showed how the greatest thing we can bet on is ourselves Season 3 Dov Baron forced us to look at what's really going on, magnifying it, and then using that insight to truly grow Episode 056. Susan Clarke is Research Director for Smart Buildings at Verdantix where she leads a research agenda focused on software solutions for real estate management including integrated workplace management systems and IoT platforms for buildings. In October 2020, Mike Petrusky hosted a live webinar broadcast called “The Future of Workplace Experience” as Susan discussed findings from a recent Verdantix survey designed to help real estate and facility management leaders as they explore smart building technology strategies, investment plans and priorities over the next 12 months. The survey highlights that COVID-19 is driving firms to reprioritize their facilities management strategies with talent retention and employee safety as new focal areas. In the near-term, firms are planning targeted new investments in remote collaboration, employee health monitoring technology and IoT-enabled space monitoring. Inevitably you will experience moments of conflict among a team. Although most people are conflict avoidant, productive conflict enables a team to find new solutions and build stronger relationships. Learning to navigate conflict is a critical skill for every manager. In this episode, I speak with Susan Clarke, co-founder with her partner CrisMarie Campbell of thrive! Inc. and authors of The Beauty of Conflict: Harnessing Your Team’s Competitive Advantage and The Beauty of Conflict for Couples. Together they host The Beauty of Conflict podcast for dealing with conflict at work and at home. CrisMarie is an Olympic rower and Susan is a former marriage therapist and Equus coach. As partners in work and life for over two decades, they’ve adapted their proven step-by-step process honed working with Fortune 100 Companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Microsoft, AT&T and San Francisco Giants to help long-term couples use conflict as a catalyst to greater intimacy, passion, and fulfillment. Chrismarie wasn’t able to join us, so I talked with Susan about being conflict avoidant, the difference between conflict and a fight, the role of emotion and vulnerability when dealing with conflict, how to confront conflict in a productive way and more. Warning: there are a few spots where Susan uses a curse word, so if you’ve got sensitive ears around, you may want to wait to listen to this another time. A conflict is a collaborative discussion that looks at all points of view in order to come up with a collective solution. In order to engage in conflict, both parties need to let go of being right and open up to the possibility of new ways of seeing. Conflicts force us to be in a place of ambiguity and uncertainty which often feels scary and stressful. It’s normal to experience an “Oh, Sh*t!” moments when you’re not sure if the group is actually going to come to a resolution. When you’re feeling emotionally charged, reground yourself by focusing on calm breathing and feeling your feet on the floor. Recognize the cues when your body and mind are starting to go into stress-mode. The faster you can recognize your signals, the quicker you can work to bring yourself down from a place of stress. Managers can change the power dynamics in group discussions by admitting to mistakes, and opening up to new solutions. Don’t dismiss conflict between colleagues as something they have to figure out on their own. Arrange for a group discussion (for the three of you or with the whole team) to allow for others to help facilitate and add additional perspectives. Avoid meeting one-on-one to discuss employees’ grievances separately. One-on-one meetings are inefficient, burn managers out, and don’t give employees the opportunity to come together to resolve their issues. In the late 19th century, impressionism swept through the art world. In Australia, a group of young artists embraced the new movement - they would meet in artist's camps and paint en plein air. Among them was a young Arthur Streeton who would in due course become one of Australia's most loved and respected artists. Wayne Tunnicliffe has curated an outstanding retrospective of Streeton’s work. Wayne is Head Curator of Australian art at the Art Gallery of NSW, and the retrospective gathers together over 150 of Streeton’s works, some not seen in public in over 100 years. This is Streeton as he has never been seen before. Wayne had the idea for the exhibition when he was curatorial adviser to an exhibition of Australian impressionists at the National Gallery in London. It was clear to him that Streeton stood out as the most significant landscape painter in the group. It makes sense that this retrospective is held at the Art Gallery of NSW. Not only does the Gallery have the largest collection of Streetons anywhere in the world, but they started buying his work in 1890 when he was an emerging artist at only 23 years of age. In this episode we explore Streeton's life: his early years, his meeting some of the key figures in Australian art, his experience of life in London and during WWI, and his later years back in Australia. We also dig deep into a couple of the works with Wayne providing some fascinating insights. To hear the interview press 'play' beneath the above feature photo. You can see images of the works we talk about below. Streeton opens at the Art Gallery of NSW on 7 November 2020 and runs until 14 February 2021. What is Geoengineering? Awareness and Understanding with guests Rachael McIntosh and Susan ClarkeGeoengineering as the intentional manipulation of the environment, involving nuclear, biological, chemical, electromagnetic, and/or other physical-agent activities that effect changes to Earth’s atmosphere and/or surface. For instance, if people build a dam and create a lake, that’s geoengineering! If people inject Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) as dry ice, into the atmosphere to create rain, that’s geoengineering too! Acid rain has led to the destruction of trees that have naturally managed earth's climate for millions of years. This episode will begin with a story walk among the trees.Surprisingly, there are no laws governing geoengineering, and our guests have been working to introduce The Geoengineering Act of 2020, an important public health and safety bill that recognizes emissions in the air that are having severe environmental effects upon the earth's surface, its waters, air and atmosphere. The bill defines geoengineering in detail. It outlines permitting requirements and enforcement measures to protect individuals and communities from the dangerous fallout of unwarranted climate modification activities. It wasn't about much it was really about going for a walk and it was one of those smaller arguments that feels intense in the moment. But after you kind of work through it for me at least I walk away with a sense of relief and can even laugh about it and many months ago over a year ago we recorded an episode on what we fight about and surprisingly it was one of our most popular episodes especially in this is the thing. Among people who know us like friends and family and acquaintances. Who Apparently listened to the podcast? But they've never told us about it. They've never I guess admitted it and we receive so many messages from people who felt reassured or comforted by the fact that you and I argue and I don't know what would make people think that we don't argue. I guess because we don't argue in public and you really only see what we put out there. I mean obviously. I don't post instagram stories. While we're in the middle of a fight and I guess it just for me. It went without saying that. Were a normal couple. Normal couple. Were a happy couple but we still fight. I was thinking. Do you remember our first fight. Our very first fight no not at all. You looked at me like I was going to remember. I thought you remember it. I was like wow. I can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday. So I definitely don't remember. I don't even think I could pinpoint our biggest one. I can remember a few where I was really really mad like really mad but the way that I used to fight and the way that I fight now are very different. I just feel like it's changed so much over the years you're wake calmer cranky on and then when you're in your early twenties but you're never explosive a verbally. I think it was more in your body.

We have a really fascinating conversation about congruency in our communication—what we feel and what we say—and why that matters so much. The quest to find a solution to a terminal cancer diagnosis at the age of 24 is how Susan Clarke’s entrepreneurial path took root to grow. At the point of no possible positive outcomes, Susan stepped off the beaten path and took on the task of finding health through having difficult conversations, facing buried secrets and scars from the past, and finally choosing connection over validation. Since her cancer journey, Susan has focused her life on living fully in each moment and creating fulfilling relationships. With her partner, CrisMarie Campbell, she started thrive!. They are the authors of The Beauty of Conflict: Harnessing Your Team’s Competitive Advantage and The Beauty of Conflict for Couples. They also have a podcast with the same name: The Beauty of Conflict for dealing with conflict at work and at home. Her passion comes in working with leaders, teams, couples and individuals to help them value differences, bring more of themselves to everything they do, and engage in the power of people working collectively together. Key Points from the Episode with Susan Clarke: Susan and her partner CrisMarie Campbell help leaders and teams deal with conflict as a means for creativity, communication and achievement. They also do similar work with couples in a non-business setting. We started the interview mid-conversation, talking about my interview with CrisMarie, who was on the show in November 2018 in Episode 77. Susan is a Cancer survivor who was given a six month prognosis that she has outlived multiple times over now. The moment she got that news was a pivotal shift for her to see herself not as a follower anymore, but as a leader. She picked up a book by Elizabeth Kübler-Ross called On Death & Dying, and reached out to her about how to figure out how learn how to die. What Susan found is that she’s no different from anyone else when it comes to date – we all are going to die, but Susan was just given a date so she’s focused on it. This was when Susan realized no one has the answers for her, and she has to lead herself. She had to look more fully at her life, which wasn’t just about the Cancer. It’s not about blaming the Cancer, but looking at what it’s here to teach her. What Susan realized is that she actually had nothing to lose, so even if her life became a living hell, which it sort of was anyway, what difference does it make? She actually had four difference Cancers over seven years. You can get in this place where it’s almost easier to die than to live. This wasn’t the first thing Susan had faced, with other things from her past that started to unfold and surface. Susan’s doctors were asking her questions she wasn’t able to answer, and in the quest to find those answers, she unearthed trauma from abuse in her past. As a young adult, Susan was a teacher, and had gotten into running pretty intensely, with two 10-mile runs a day, and she started losing weight. When she went to see a doctor about it, they said she had a classic eating disorder, which they fixated on, and sent her to a psychologist, who started asking her deeper questions. She started asking her family some of these questions, which got them upset. What came out is that Susan was abused by a charismatic member of her town’s society, and the response to this coming out was not good, with people threatening Susan, ostracizing her, and worse. In this period, they still didn’t find the Cancer, but couldn’t stop the weight loss and other health issues, so she was sent to the Mayo Clinic, who found Stage IV Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. As her treatment went forward along with the self-work, Susan relationship with her family was severed. She also moved to the West Coast, and then started to have other Cancers, including Ovarian (resulting in having to have her ovaries removed), a brain-stem tumor and an optic nerve tumor, both of which required radiation. While you’re never technically in remission with Lymphoma, Susan did get a clean bill of health in 1989, and has remained Cancer-free since then. On the abuse case, authorities back home were trying to put a case together as they had found other victims willing to speak. In the end, that fell apart as the other victims and witnesses backed out or were too deep in the throes of mental issues from the abuse to stand up in trial, so the abuser remained free. What Susan was able to do, though, was learn empathy for her family, who went through something very hard themselves, even though it wasn’t the same as what Susan went through. She let go of comparing hardships or expecting, and just saw their pain in and of itself, and that allowed room to reconnect. She can believe in herself, and still hear the stories of others and have empathy without losing herself. This is what relationships are really and ultimately about. If we cannot work so hard on not making “them” wrong, we can get ourself back. We get to chose being right or relational. You don’t get to be both. After teaching, Susan went to The Haven in Western Canada, where she worked on her health and recovery. There, they did a lot of group work, realizing that people often got better in the waiting rooms than in the 1-on-1 appointments. Most people have their belief systems rattled at some point. Susan had her belief system shaken to the core, which can be a good place to be in if you want to grow. Essentially, she didn’t get to have her beliefs, and could instead build them. We talked about the way health situations like this where our bodies themselves are growing the thing that’s threatening our life can create trust issues with ourselves. What Susan has done around this is recognizing that her body is giving her information. That info can be scary, but it’s still information. It’s up to her to decide what to do with that info, and recognize it’s a conversation, and this is how your body does it. We got into talking about horses, which are the fastest animals to go back to a feral or wild state after being domesticated. Their ability to connect with our true nature is part of why they’re used in therapy and have been shown to have such strong impact on helping people deal with difficulties. Something Susan has learned about blaming someone else is that it’s often a sign that you’re uncomfortable about something in you. People think about choices as one we should make and one we shouldn’t. Susan doesn’t see it this way. It’s really about curiosity. Can I be curious about what I’m facing rather than making it about one thing or the other. With Cancer, it wasn’t about living or dying, it was about being curious about it and learning from it. Whether you're terrified of conflict or you thrive on it, learning how to embrace conflict in the healthiest way possible is incredibly important for successful relationships. Today's guests go so far as to say there's a certain level of beauty that develops during conflict. CrisMarie Campbell and Susan Clarke are here to talk about why we should all embrace the moments that bring conflict to our relationships. Chronically repressing feelings of conflict and avoiding stressful situations can actually lead to bigger health problems. Once you start addressing some of the issues, you might notice positive changes to your health. Some of these feelings might even be held onto from childhood. When you're in a relationship, communication styles are more often than not going to be different. But it's important to honor and respect your partner's communication style and learn how to have meaningful conversations, even when they have an element of conflict. You might also find that you have feelings of jealousy over something your partner is doing. CrisMarie and Susan explain how you can look at your emotions to determine why you're feeling that certain way and how you can deconstruct the stories you hold. CrisMarie and Susan share how you can reconnect with your partner when you're feeling out of touch with them or like you're constantly angry and annoyed. When you're in a committed relationship, it's so imperative you at least try to work things out than throw it all away. One of their favorite techniques is the 5-5-5 rule to foster intimate, constructive conversations in a structured manner, so no one feels attacked or overwhelmed. What is your love language? How do you feel after having an argument with your partner? Do you ever feel jealous over something your partner is doing? In This Episode: Where the beauty comes from during conflict What repressing and avoiding conflict can cause in your body How you can honor and respect the differences in communication styles How you can turn around your feelings of jealousy to figure out what you're not fulfilling in yourself How you can get back in touch with your partner when you're feeling constant anger with them What the 5-5-5 rule is and how it can help you have more intimate, constructive conversations with your partner How to rebuild lost trust within your relationship Quotes: “The more ideas that are out there, the more possibilities that are out there, the world expands. My world gets bigger and I'm not stuck in the narrative, whether it's in my relationship or it's out in the world in general, that I would be stuck in if I only had my own storyline.” (8:27) “You're defining yourself, meaning, I'm speaking out what I want. That doesn't mean your partner has to change, you're just defining yourself and doing what's important for you and that's a very powerful move.” (22:44) “The key is once you decide, ‘hey, I need to find my voice' is to remember that you still have this part, that they're your expectations and that person over there never knew about them. So you've got to give that some room to let that other person catch up.” (45:14) Links Buy The Beauty of Conflict Find CrisMarie Campbell & Susan Clark Online Find CrisMarie Campbell & Susan Clark on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | LinkedIn | YouTube Check out the full episode page Find Dr. Anna Online Follow Dr. Anna on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter

CrisMarie Campbell was an Olympic rower, a Boeing Flight Test Engineer and a Manager at Arthur Andersen. Her rowing career was thriving as she made her way from the college level, national level, international level and finally heading to the Olympics until a chronic back injury cut everything off. It also helped her realize, while she looked good on the outside, she felt like a fraud on the inside. CrisMarie went on a healing journey that lead to competing in the Olympics, but left her feeling empty still when the team failed to win Gold despite being the favorites. She had more work to do. That journey continued, leading to CrisMarie co-founding thrive! inc., a coaching and consulting firm, with Susan Clarke. Now, she works with leaders and teams, and her passion is helping professional women reclaim their hearts while becoming the lady-bosses they’re meant to be the world! She’s a Master Certified Coach, artist, actress and dancer. Key Points from the Episode with CrisMarie Campbell: CrisMarie is a leadership and team dynamics speaker, author and coach today. Part of that work stretches beyond the corporate world into personal relationship work, helping couples relate better. Her personal story started as she got into rowing crew, which lead her to the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea Her US Women Rowing team was supposed to win gold, but lost, which crushed her and created a period of intense self-hate and sense of failure. CrisMarie’s athletic career started in band, when she was not an athlete at all. When that got too intense, it turned her off from music, and left her looking for what’s next. She was introduced to rowing through a movie, and fell in love the idea of it and the life around it that was portrayed in the movie. After trying out for a team, CrisMarie got into it, and a coach who challenged her in a way that questioned whether she could do it drove her to work harder and actually achieve. Her father, who she refers to as “The Colonel” due to his military background and style, played a prominent and repetitive role in CrisMarie’s decision-making process. The Colonel judged her, told her she can’t, and expected perfection, which was very definitional in how CrisMarie thought about herself, her abilities and what would motivate her to work hard. As a result of that, reverse psychology often sparked action in CrisMarie back then, which her coach took advantage of. CrisMarie’s capabilities grew, and she just wanted more and more. That lead her to keep moving up the ranks, getting on higher and higher level teams. She made the US Nationals team, and ended up in a race against the Russians, which was a very big deal in the 1980s when US/Russian tensions were at a peak. While they didn’t take gold, they did beat the Russian team, earning a Silver in the Worlds. This was a high moment for CrisMarie and the rest of her team. They also had proven themselves, with CrisMarie taking a lead role as stroke, a key role in the boat. She ended up beating a friend for the stroke position, and it hurt their relationship, with CrisMarie hoping things could just go back to the way they were before. As a result, she made some self-sabotaging decisions, including starting power lifting (which is not a good idea for a rower in general, let alone heading into the Olympics), and hurt her back, taking her off the water. This put CrisMarie into a deep depression, and also didn’t help her friendship. The doctors gave her pain medication, which she thought about taking all of them at once, and ending the pain she feeling inside. Her physical therapist could tell something was going on in her head, and gave CrisMarie a book called “The Mental Athlete”. While CrisMarie shrugged it off, she ended up opening the book, and found ways to prepare and train mentally despite the physical limitation, and it got her back into it. CrisMarie’s identity had been so linked to winning and making the Olympics that her injury lead to huge questions of identity and self-worth. We talked about the “Olympic Blues” - something the USOC runs a program on to help Olympians after the games as many struggle with their identity after the competition ends. CrisMarie was able to turn things around, and actually made the team. They were favored to win Gold, and didn’t, and she was right back in the middle of the question of identity and purpose, and she spiraled down. She met Susan, who would later become CrisMarie’s wife and business partner, and when Susan asked about the Olympics, CrisMarie couldn’t even talk about it. CrisMarie finally got the Olympic Rings tattooed on her after almost 30 years as it took that long to accept that she is an Olympian, it’s real and an achievement, and it’s behind but a part of her. All of this informed her work today, which is focused on helping people recover from failure, which she knows is possible. One of the things CrisMarie learned in this is not to just try to solve everything in your head, but bringing your body into it – breathing, physical awareness, movement can all help. A big contributor has also been CrisMarie changing how she was in childhood and now she speaks up for what she wants rather than seeing her needs as taboo. Here are some of the big topics we talked about… CrisMarie and Susan’s individual stories of coming through stress, conflict, & serious illness, and the beauty of intuition and connectivity which helped them get through How Susan uncovered “huge amounts of conflict in her own life that she hadn’t been dealing with” and the span of 10 years that she turned chaos & conflict around fully In CrisMarie & Susan’s Voice CrisMarie: “As a rower at the University of Washington, I listened to what was drawing me forward. Meeting Susan was an inner voice listening - I was really paying attention then! I continued to make better and better choices as I made that pivot later in my life. I got healthier and happier from learning to trust the inside voice vs trying to please people on the outside.”Susan: “I became committed to surfacing conflict. The beauty and the depth of what can happen when you turn towards that which seems hard and difficult! Totally transformational things can come out of that.”CrisMarie: “I took the fall for a failed project when I didn’t speak up. I knew then and there, ‘I’ve got to figure out how to speak up to power because this is a career-limiting move.’ That was a key transformational point for me around conflict.” Connect with CrisMarie & Susan Website Book Website Instagram Facebook

Ok these are two of my favorite new people!!!!! They GET it. They LIVE it. They TEACH it. They know the benefit of fully expressing energy. Conflict is an invitation to thrive, dive deep into intimacy, ignite passion... anger, sadness, fear etc isn't bad. They get In To Me I See... that we MUST have an intimate relationship with ourselves in order to stay present and listen without reaction to our partner in heated moments. They have gotten closer over the years by being willing to be 'fully caffeinated' and speak up about what's really happening inside. They help couples get underneath the avoidance or the blame to really what's dying inside... they give space to speak about why it's important to stay and work on the relationship or to consciously uncouple. AND they work with horses! OMG I literally can't wait to explore this. I've been wanting to for YEARS. Definitely download their gift of a few chapters of the book and the book club questions so that you can bring this topic to your friends and family. Damn this is a phenomenal discussion you're going to want to listen to over and over! Enjoy! xox p.s. Gentlemen…End the Fear of Rejection. You're in a for a treat today! Susan Clarke and CrisMarie Campbell are life and business partners who over time have learned that the secret to healthy relationships is to embrace conflict. Most of us think of conflict as something external, usually related to another person and a difference of opinion or philosophy. But the truth is that conflict often starts within ourselves and dealing with internal conflict must happen first. So all the things we bury or tell ourselves aren't important will likely rear their heads later in our lives if we don't face them. Susan and CrisMarie have dedicated their lives to helping people find ways to face their conflicts and step into their greatness. About the dynamic duo: Susan was given six months to live at age 24 and overcame her illness by taking a proactive approach with her health. She went on to become a facilitator, educator and coach, helping many others become "unstuck" and realize their power. CrisMarie was an Olympic rower who later became a Boeing engineer and a manager at Arthur Anderson. Her secret sauce is unlocking the greatness of teams by taking a relationship approach instead of focusing solely on results. Today they are business partners who practice what they preach in their personal lives as a couple too. Their recent book "The Beauty of Conflict for Couples: Igniting Passion, Intimacy & Connection in Your Relationship" is a must read for everyone. Even if you're not currently in a relationship - there is so much to glean from this book that will help you the next time around. Today we talk about: CrisMarie's background as an Olympic rower and the difficulty of her transition to the real world Susan's cancer at 24 and the unearthing of childhood sexual assault that helped her beat her illness Romance: the roles we play in each other's "movies" Conflict: How running away is easier than addressing the problem How do we manage conflicts on small and large levels Live demo of conflict management: The BRANCH issue! The key to success: Stop talking about "you" and focus on me Vulnerability Intimacy: "into me see" - we're more afraid of seeing ourselves than others Compromise: why this is a bad word 5-5-5 rule: this is a good one! And so much more This episode gives you a new tool for your communication toolbox. I encourage you to check out their work and definitely grab a copy of their new book or the original Beauty of Conflict that focuses on leadership and conflict management in your career. Let’s all be honest about something, we are all friends here… How many have you heard other people say (or even heard yourself saying), “it would be better if we argued less” or even “things are going so well lately as we have not argued at all”? Why the small conflicts, not the big blowups, are relationship-killers.

Would you describe yourself as someone who hates confrontation? Do you do things simply to please others because you want to be a peacekeeper? Or maybe you find yourself in constant discomfort when there are tense situations. This week, tune in and listen to Kim's interview with powerhouse duo CrisMarie Clarke and Susan Campbell. CrisMarie and Susan co-founded the company Thrive! and have a brand new book, The Beauty of Conflict. They work with leadership teams, management groups, project teams and senior executive teams to resolve conflict in real-time and use it to drive collective creativity, profits, and extraordinary results. CrisMarie and Susan teach that conflict is natural when smart, passionate people work together towards an ambitious goal. Kim, CrisMarie, and Susan discuss that oftentimes, in an effort to avoid conflict, you actually end up causing MORE conflict because people don't know who you really are and what you really want. This conversation displays the beauty in conflict and how expressing yourself to solve problems gets you to a better solution every time. Listen in to learn about how not having your voice to speak up can be a career-limiting and relationship-limiting move. Especially if you are a people-pleaser, you’ll learn that simply pacifying others and not speaking up about what you want may actually be causing more confusion about your motives. If you're searching for conflict-resolution strategies in your personal or professional life, you're in the right place! You’ll get a fundamental understanding in how to resolve issues and confront problems head-on without burning bridges or conceding your true feelings. We've talked a lot on previous shows with many great guests about the coming of the new wireless 5G system. Barrie Trower, Virginia Farver, Katie Singer and others have helped us learn the dangers and damage done to all life by the microwave radiation that is increasingly polluting our world. Now the determined push by government and its partner industries to install the infrastructure of 5G across America and ultimately the rest of the world means we need to take our awareness of this issue to the next level. For the show this Sunday, I wanted to get on someone with a deep understanding of microwave radiation that is used by the wireless technology that is already everywhere, but also specifically what the coming 5G rollout really means to us and what it will change. Fortunately for us, that person turned out to be Susan Clarke, who has been teaching these things to individuals, corporations and governments at all levels for decades. The discussion with her will certainly be incredibly educational for all of us, myself included, and I urge you to be there with me this Sunday. In preparation for our discussion, Susan is urging all of us to visit the web sites www.rfemf.com and www.zerogeoengineering.com, plus she recommends to watch the video recording of Ronald Bernard, former high level banker, which Lost Arts Radio already has posted at www.lostartsradio.com.
On this episode of Catch Good Health® Radio, Health Educator & Wellness Coach, Erica Haray-Butcher, talks with Life Coaches & Business Consultants, CrisMarie Campbell and Susan Clarke, about…conflict. CrisMarie and Susan share tips for those of us who are conflict avoiders, and they discuss using the natural energy of your emotions to help you. CrisMarie, […]
