House Republicans are trying to push President Donald Trump's massive tax and immigration bill across the finish line this week, hoping to conquer internal divisions and tee up a vote that would send the bill to the Senate. One of the areas targeted for major cuts is Medicaid, which insures more than 80 million people in the United States. To root out what they say is waste, fraud and abuse in the system, and preserve the program long term, conservatives have proposed reductions and changes to Medicaid eligibility.Today on “Post Reports,” Elahe Izadi speaks with health reporter Fenit Nirappil about the United States' largest public health insurance program: What it is, how it works, whom it serves and what could change.Today's show was produced by Elana Gordon and Rennie Svirnovskiy. Send us a textThe walls we build to protect ourselves from trauma can become our prisons. This powerful truth emerges as Dr. Charlie Powell returns to share groundbreaking developments with his "Healing Heroes: No Mind Left Behind" documentary, now evolving from a television series into a theatrical release scheduled for November 11th.Charlie takes us deep into the intricate relationship between PTSD and addiction, revealing how these conditions often share the same root causes. "Most cases of PTSD don't start in adulthood," he explains, sharing his personal revelation that despite decades in military service and trauma medicine, some of his most significant healing came from addressing a childhood near-drowning experience. This perspective shatters conventional understanding of trauma, suggesting that many of our adult struggles trace back to moments where life came at us "too fast, too much, and too soon."The conversation ventures into uncomfortable but vital territory as Charlie and Steve discuss how trauma survivors' silence impacts relationships. "The silence that you put your partner through," Steve notes, "may not seem like verbal abuse or trauma, but it is." Charlie takes this further with a provocative comparison: this withdrawal can be as damaging as infidelity, representing a loss of faith in the partner's ability to handle the truth of your experience. Most powerfully, Charlie shares his initial reluctance and eventual decision to make his personal story central to the documentary. "People think vulnerability is a weakness. It's not. It's a strength," he explains, challenging the stigma that keeps many first responders and veterans from seeking help. This vulnerability has already resonated deeply—the documentary's first trailer garnered an astounding 4 million views in just three and a half days. For anyone struggling with trauma's grip, this conversation offers not just insight but tangible hope. Charlie describes how interventions combining multiple healing modalities helped six veterans and first responders achieve transformative recovery in just ten days—freedom from both PTSD symptoms and associated addictions many had developed to cope. As Charlie puts it: "Challenge anybody out there—imagine the biggest accomplishments you've ever had in life and tell me which one was easy." Perhaps our greatest traumas, properly processed, can lead to our greatest growth.Ready to see trauma recovery differently? Listen now, and watch for the new Healing Heroes trailer dropping this Memorial Day.Here is the trailer for "Healing Heroes: No Mind Left Behind" Season 1: https://youtu.be/16bnQ7eVKKI?si=46VOPpo1fLq_WB9oFreed.ai: We'll Do Your SOAP Notes!Freed AI converts conversations into SOAP note.Use code Steve50 for $50 off the 1st month!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Today's Headlines: Congress is currently hashing out a sweeping reconciliation bill—dubbed by President Trump as “one big beautiful bill”—that outlines his administration's tax and spending priorities, though its final form remains uncertain. Key provisions include extending the 2017 tax cuts, which would add an estimated $2.7 trillion to the national deficit by 2034, ramping up ICE funding, and introducing Medicaid work requirements. Trump visited Capitol Hill to rally support amid internal GOP resistance, as Speaker Mike Johnson aims to pass the bill before Memorial Day recess. As part of this package, Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced a $25 billion down payment for a proposed $175 billion missile defense system called the “Golden Dome,” modeled on Israel's Iron Dome and intended to guard against nuclear and hypersonic threats. Meanwhile, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem sparked backlash after incorrectly defining habeas corpus during Senate testimony, raising alarms as the White House reportedly considers suspending the constitutional protection. On the economic front, mortgage rates have surged past 7%—a 25-year high—following a U.S. credit downgrade by Moody's. And in tech-meets-politics news, Elon Musk told the Qatar Economic Forum he plans to scale back political donations, though quickly added he might resume them if he sees a reason—fueling speculation his political capital may be waning. Resources/Articles mentioned in this episode: WA Post: Trump tries to persuade, and threaten, GOP to support his budget bill Axios: Trump and Hegseth unveil $175 billion plans for Golden Dome missile shield AP News: Trump's Homeland Security secretary says habeas corpus lets him 'remove people from this country' CBS News: Mortgage rates climb back above 7% after Moody's U.S. debt downgrade Bloomberg: Elon Musk Interview In Full Morning Announcements is produced by Sami Sage and edited by Grace Hernandez-Johnson Learn more about your ad choices. A trip to the ER in one city in Pennsylvania is longer than the national average. Top state officials received nearly $120,000 in gifts last year. Things will be cloudy and gray ahead of Memorial Day, but don't let that keep you down. And this catfish was quite the catch-fish.

Purvis Jr., Craig's brother-in-law and loving father of four. With Memorial Day approaching it is all the more important to understand how precious our time together is and John demonstrated that by above all else, showing up for the people in his life. This month, for Memorial Day and Military Appreciation Month, we honor our Native American veterans. Did you know our Native people serve at the highest rate per capita of any group in the U.S.? Yet, Native veterans also face some of the highest suicide rates, often twice the national average. Factors like historical trauma, limited access to culturally relevant care, and the lingering effects of service contribute to this crisis. For younger Native male veterans, the risk is especially high, making culturally rooted, community-based support critical. Programs that reconnect veterans to nature, culture, and tradition are helping restore hope. I sat down with Choctaw veteran Teyler Williston, who continues his family's legacy of service through his work in Native veteran mental health. His story spans generations—from his Choctaw Lighthorseman Grandpa to Teyler's Air Force Firefighting and his role in the Choctaw Honor Guard. It's make-or-break week in the House for President Donald Trump's 'one big, beautiful bill.' House Speaker Mike Johnson said Monday he still believes his party can pass the president's legislative agenda by the GOP's self-imposed deadline of Memorial Day. But deep divisions remain within the caucus over cuts to Medicaid and food stamps, state and local tax deductions, and the bill's implications for the national debt. Marianna Sotomayor, who covers the House for The Washington Post, breaks down the roadblocks facing House Republicans. And in headlines: The Supreme Court said the Trump administration can temporarily revoke deportation protections for hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans, Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a two-hour phone call to discuss a ceasefire with Ukraine, and the Justice Department is set to pay nearly $5 million to the family of a Trump supporter who was fatally shot by police during the insurrection.Show Notes:Check out Marianna's work – www.washingtonpost.com/people/marianna-sotomayor/Subscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/
Join Opie and Ron for a wild ride in this episode as they celebrate Opie’s birthday with oceanfront dreams of barbecues, bikinis, and rock music during Memorial Day weekend. The duo dives into city frustrations—dog poison scares, brutal traffic, and overpriced Knicks playoff tickets favoring celebrities like Lenny Kravitz over hardcore fans. They break down NBA playoff predictions (OKC vs. Pacers), dissect a bizarre Mexican naval ship crash into the Brooklyn Bridge, and revisit Andy Kaufman’s epic trolling. Things get cosmic as Ron spins theories on alien DNA, Atlanteans creating minotaurs, and the one-electron universe, while Opie grounds the convo with skepticism and a nod to his dad’s pig valve transplant. From YouTube’s touchy medical rules to rants about one-hit-wonder Seal, this episode is a chaotic blend of personal anecdotes, hot takes, and mind-bending tangents. Don’t miss Opie’s emotional plan to witness a seal release and their nostalgic nod to satellite radio’s free-speech days!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
