Asteroids appear as moving points of light in an asteroid hunter's images so that when my Catalina Sky Survey teammate Alex Gibbs spotted a fuzzy moving object he immediately suspected it to be a comet. The data obtained by astronomers over the next 8 days enabled scientists at the Minor Planet Center to verify Alex's 31st comet discovery and give it the name C/2018 A6 (Gibbs). In January of 2018 it was in the constellation of Leo traveling from the vast empty space above the Sun's north pole toward the plane of the solar system which contains all of the planets and most of the asteroids. In March of 2018 Comet C/2018 A6 (Gibbs) will cross the plane of the solar system a bit farther from the Sun than the giant planet Jupiter's orbit. After that it will continue on a wide arcing parabolic path, pass under the Sun's south pole in the summer of 2019, and once again cross the plane of the solar system in February of 2021. After that it will continue into the vast empty space above the Sun's north pole from whence it came. How a comet brightens as it approaches the Sun is difficult to predict. With luck humans will be able to spot Comet C/2018 A6 (Gibbs) with their naked eye, binoculars, or a small telescope as it pays a rare visit to our planet's neighborhood.

Their previous film Delicatessen, released in 1991, was described as a zany post-apocalyptic black comedy in the style of Terry Gilliam. Based on the success of both Delicatessen and The City of Lost Children, Jeunet would go on to direct 1997's Alien Resurrection and 2001's award winning romantic comedy Amelie.The City of Lost Children not only got its own Playstation game, but would also become a huge inspiration for both the Fallout and Bioshock video game franchises.Fallout designer Tim Cain listed the film among the cinematic influences on the game's art direction, and later said that elements of Fallout's power armor and technology aesthetic drew from the film's helmet eyepieces, tubing, and vents.This movie is also inspired the visual design of the video game BioShock (2007). From the scene of the man in scuba gear carrying a child to the parts where she climbs and descends from the pipes look like they came straight out of the underwater city of Rapture.

The current wave of UFO/UAP disclosure is analyzed as a controlled psychological operation, not a full reveal of the truth, by MUFON's Ron James. Maybe the real monster in the Alien franchise isn't actually the killer alien. Because behind the acid blood and jump scares is an even more insidious horror: a single employer with unchecked power. That employer is named Weyland-Yutani, a mega-corporation that dominates workers across the galaxy.Weyland-Yutani is a sort of extreme example of what economists call a monopsony — when one employer dominates a labor market and gains power to underpay and mistreat workers. Sure, it's science fiction. But a growing number of economists argue that monopsony power is a much bigger deal in the real world than previously thought.We watch scenes from the movie Alien with labor economist Arin Dube, whose new book, The Wage Standard, shines a spotlight on the problem of monopsony power in the modern economy.
