In Episode 348 Jeff Belanger and Ray Auger visit a potentially haunted gas station and convenience store in Nashua, New Hampshire. Though the Cumbies is new, the building that used sit on this property dated back to the 1700s. For decades it was known as the Country Tavern until it closed in 2020. 1986 - Kingston, Massachussetts. On a brisk night in October of 1986, 15-year-old Tracy Gilpin left a friend's house party in Rocky Nook to buy a pack of cigarettes at the Cumberland Farms gas station. When she left the parking lot around 11:30pm, it was the last time she would be seen alive. Three weeks later, Tracy's body was found 11 miles away in Myles Standish State Forest. She'd been crushed by a 73 lb boulder. For years, the Gilpin's fought to keep Tracy in the public eye. Her sister, Kerry Gilpin, inspired to help make a difference for other families, even became a state trooper (and eventually the superintendent) for the Massachusetts State Police. As years went on and other cases were solved, they always wondered when their day for justice would come… and 32 years later, in 2018, it did; when police arrested 61-year-old Michael Arthur Hand in North Carolina. This is the murder of Tracy “Ashtray” Gilpin and what we know in the case against Michael Hand, which will most likely be heading to trial sometime this year. Though an arrest has been made, the work is still not done. If you have any information on the murder of Tracy Gilpin, now is the time to come forward. Please contact the Massachusetts State Police investigators at (508) 894-2584 with any information. We Are No Longer Slaves To SinRomans 6:16 “ Do you not know that, if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?.”Wow, I am not sure I have ever really thought about it in this way before. This idea of being a slave to sin is actually something I have been thinking a lot about lately. There were several years where I really worked on my self control and my self discipline. I gave up soda, which if you know me, that was a big sacrifice and at the same time, it isn't really good for me so I don't want to drink it. Well, I want to, but I don't. I also wasn't eating a lot of junk food. It wasn't as if I suddenly didn't want soda, or chips, or ice cream. I definitely did. However, I also wanted to be healthy and I knew it wasn't ok to give into my every whim or desire. I knew that beside becoming healthier I was becoming mentally stronger. It is great exercise for your mind and body to deny yourself some of the things you want. It is really powerful to let you body know that just because it wants something doesn't mean is should have it. It may sound strange if you have not done this, but you feel so great when you are able to say no to yourself. There was a time, not too long ago where I was really good at this. For several years I was very good at this. However, this last year and a half, I am not sure what happened. I seem to have forgotten that I don't have to give in to every desire I have. My body tells me I want chips and I say ok. My body tells me I don't want to work out and I say ok. I seem to have forgotten I can tell myself no. If this is you too, if you are struggling with self control, I suggest you read Romans 6-8. That was my homework this week for my class and I could not believe how much it spoke to me. Especially the first chapter or two, it reminds us that we are more powerful than sin. It reminds us we don't have to give in to temptation. This verse above says, "Do you not know that, if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?” What this verse is telling us is that if we are giving in to our every desire the we will become slaves to our desires. Do you ever feel like that, like you are a slave to your desires or to your cravings? I know I do. I used to be addicted to coke a cola. I knew it wasn't great to drink it all the time and so I wouldn't buy it for the house. However, then I would find myself having to find reasons to drive by a Cumberland Farms so I could grab a coke. More times than I can count I have been addicted to a TV show. I would have plenty of work to do and yet I would sit on the couch and watch TV because I was a slave to that desire. I would tell myself to get up and turn the TV off, and yet I just couldn't. I don't want to be a slave to anything. I want the freedom to do something or not do something. That freedom only comes when we use the will power that we were given. That freedom only comes when we ask God to help us do the things we want to do instead of that which we don't want to do. I recently learned that when St. Paul said in Romans 6:15 “I do not understand my own actions, but I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing that I hate.” He was actually referring to his life before his baptism. This is because as it says in Romans 6:15, “ For Sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under Grace.” We have the power to overcome sin. We no longer have to become slave to it. I wonder if you are asking yourself the same question I am asking myself, “They why do we?” If you are like me, you still become slave to your desires, even though we have power over sin. Why is this? I am not an expert but I think there are two reasons. The first on, and I think the biggest reason is because we are believing the lies. We are believing the enemy when he whispers lies about us. The enemy tells us we are weak. The enemy tells us we have to eat that cookie, or watch that TV show. The enemy tells us it's ok to just have one cookie, or to just watch one TV. If you are addicted to something you must hear me now, “It won't be just one.” The enemy knows this. He knows if he can get you to just do it one time, he will have you hooked. The enemy is a liar. He makes us think “we deserve” to eat that cookie, or drink that soda. He convinces us we don't need to go to the gym because we are tired and “we deserve” to just sit down and watch some TV He convinces us that all these little choices don't matter. He convinces us a cookie is just a cookie. And sometimes it is. If you can eat a cookie or two and not have a problem, then a cookie is just a cookie. But if it is not cookies, for you, what is it? I am sure each one of us has that one thing we feel we can't control. Where are you lacking in will power and self control? What lies is the enemy telling you about that. What lies are you believing? Did you know you are a child of God? Did you know God will give you the strength to get through anything? He will give you the strength to do anything. In Philippians 4:13 it says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This is a fact. It doesn't say I can do some things, it says, “I can do all things.” You can go to the gym, you can stop eating that junk, you can turn the TV off. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you!The second reason I think we continue to fall prey to sin is because of our human nature. We were born with original sin and although Jesus died for our sins and so our nature to sin is gone, we still have some of the effects of original sin which means we will still sin sometimes. The more we stay connected to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, the less we will sin. The more we turn our lives over to God, the more we will learn to live like and think like Jesus did. Is it hard work, yes! Is it worth it, absolutelyThe next time your body or your mind is telling you that you “need” to do something that you know is not good for you, you remind yourself of Romans 6:15, “ For Sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under Grace.” You remind yourself that the enemy is a liar and you don't have to listen. Remind yourself that you are more powerful than the enemy because you have the power of the Holy Spirit living inside of you. If the Holy Spirit can raise Jesus from the dead, he can absolutely give you the will power to say no to any temptation the enemy throws at you. You can do this! We can do this! Sin no longer has dominion over us!Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless everyone listening to this podcast today. Lord, help us remember that you defeated the enemy and he no longer has any control over us. Help us remember that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Lord, we ask that you come into any area we are struggling with and you show us how to succeed. We invite you into all of our struggles and ask you to help us overcome. Give us the strength we need to say no when we need to say no and to say yes when we need to say yes. We love you Lord, you are truly amazing and we are so grateful for all you have done for us. We ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. Tomorrow I will be sharing a witness with you about some answers to prayers I have seen while praying over people or praying for people. I look forward to sharing those with you tomorrow. Remember, Jesus loves you, and so do I! Have a blessed day.

There are few things more human than the desire to be desired, a theme that's at the center of indie songwriter Charlotte Rose Benjamin's LP Dreamtina. The record, which explores the occupational hazards of romantic engagements, charts infatuation in terms that give its central theme the requisite space, while never feeling too somber or overly serious: Benjamin cites Courtney Barnett and Liz Phair as songwriting influences, which bleed into her craft at the necessary moments to make for an album that's even-handed in its approach to dating around NYC. In this episode, I spoke with Charlotte Rose Benjamin about the themes at play on Dreamtina and the stories that informed its ten tracks, which include sitting in the parking lot of a Cumberland Farms, feeling lonely at the party, and what it's like to see your ex show up to a show that you're playing. And as is par for the course, Charlotte was kind enough to regale us with some acoustic cuts from the release—enjoy! We just couldn't decide on one topic this week, here at On the Rocks Politica. So the team selected three tasty tidbits to opine on, two of which make up the episode you are about to dine on. In local news... The city of Gardner(MA) has only recently de-industrialized. We're experiencing this phenomenon in real time, in real ways. For two decades we've languished under two municipal administrations who have created, at best, anemic economic development. No plan is in place. No efforts have been made to engage in bottom-up projects or initiatives to generate commercial tax revenues through business growth. We have moved a Cumbies (local-speak for a chain of Convenience stores known as Cumberland Farms) from one street to another. Care about local economic development? Read our latest article on Stroads. On Monday, August 2, 2021 the city council by a two vote margin re-appointed our Director of Community Development and Planning, Trevor Beauregard to his position for another three years. Another three years of anemic growth. Of stone-walling many residents who desire to create opportunity. Another three years of tearing down buildings without a solid plan for what comes next. Read Scott's campaign article 'Why?' regarding the re-appointment of Trevor Beauregard. We analyze what is happening in this scenario, why it is happening and ask the seminal question, 'What is OUR PLAN?'. In national news... In the second half of our show Producer Cam McLeod walks us through an examination of the recent spate of suicides by Capital Police officers. Even as we prepared this show, the total of officers rose to 4. This doesn't sit right with any of us here at the show. Neither does throwing the events of January 6, 2021 under the rug for political reasons while individuals who swore an oath to protect and serve come to terms with what they experienced that day. Why don't we call the events of January 6, 2021 what they really are.... a threat to our democracy.

Craft Brew News - 8/23/2019(Courtesy of Brewbound - www.brewbound.com)MillerCoors, Stone Brewing File for Summary Judgement in Trademark CaseStone Brewing and MillerCoors have each filed for summary judgement in their ongoing trademark infringement lawsuit, according to Libation Law Blog.In February 2018, the San Diego-based craft brewery filed a lawsuit against MillerCoors, claiming its rebranded Keystone packaging caused marketplace confusion. In its latest brief, Stone Brewing claimed that its brand and trademark would be “destroyed” should MillerCoors succeed “in supplanting Stone’s craft beers with Keystone as ‘STONE’ in the minds of consumers.”Meanwhile, MillerCoors called the lawsuit “a publicity stunt” by Stone and claims that it was the first to use the “Stone” and “Stones” marks.“Stone Brewing is failing [to] keep pace in an ever more crowded craft beer segment and needed to revitalize its now-outdated image as an iconoclast,” MillerCoors’ brief said. “Stone Brewing’s market is increasingly populated by beers that are rated in official beer tastings as simply better than Stone Brewings’ ‘strong and unapologetically flavorful hops.’”Stone Brewing’s motion for preliminary injunction to ban the sale of Keystone products prior to a court hearing was denied earlier this year.Bell’s Brewery and Loveland Distributing Co. Headed to Richmond Circuit CourtThe legal dispute between Michigan’s Bell’s Brewery and Richmond, Virginia-based wholesaler Loveland Distributing Co. is heading to Richmond Circuit Court, according to Richmond Biz Sense. As Brewbound reported in October, when Premium Distributors of Virginia, a subsidiary of the Reyes Beverage Group, reached a deal to acquire Loveland Distributing Co., which had been selling Bell’s beer since 2015. According to reports, Bell’s had been attempting to terminate its contract with Loveland prior to the closing of the transaction due to the wholesaler not sharing crucial information regarding the deal. Bell’s ultimately ceased shipments to the state. The Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority ordered the sides to enter arbitration in May, however, the ABC reversed course in July, saying only a Virginia circuit or district court could compel arbitration.Bell’s is appealing the order in hopes that Virginia ABC will determine it does have the authority to order arbitration, which Bells’ and Loveland’s contract calls for in the event of termination.Guns N’ Roses, CANarchy Settle LawsuitRock band Guns N’ Roses has settled its trademark infringement lawsuit against the CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective, which sold a rosé beer called “Guns ‘N’ Rosé ale” and merchandise without the band’s permission, according to Reuters. The two sides reached a settlement agreement on July 31, and both sides are currently working on a written settlement that would dismiss the lawsuit, the outlet reported.Cumberland Farms Files 2020 Ballot Initiative to Lift Cap on Liquor LicensesMassachusetts-based convenience store chain Cumberland Farms this week filed a proposed 2020 ballot question to lift the cap on the number of liquor licenses a single retailer can hold. Beer and wine is currently sold in just seven of the chain’s 206 Massachusetts stores. The question proposes a new food store beer and liquor license with no statewide cap that would be subject to local approval. Before hitting the ballot, the proposal must be certified by the attorney general’s office, garner 80,000 signatures, and be presented to the state Legislature.Subscribe to Craft Beer Storm Podcast iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/craft-beer-storm/id1438117278?mt=2*** A Top 20 Podcast in Food on iTunes ***Michael Potorti is the Host of Craft Beer Storm and Founder/Brewer at Beara Brewing Co. in Portsmouth, NH*** Interested in starting your own brewery?
