Send us a textEver watch a headline and feel the room split between “grown folks' business” and “that's against the rules”? We open with a college coach scandal and quickly drop the rivalry noise to face the real issue: what's consensual is not always permissible when power sits at the table. We unpack how dating a subordinate distorts choice, why pay raises and special treatment torch credibility, and where HR policies draw the line. It's not pearl-clutching—it's about pressure, optics, and careers that end because boundaries weren't respected. From ethics to absurdity, we jump into a viral “Royal Rumble with 80-year-olds” scenario that turns into something surprisingly grounded: aging bodies, old man strength, and the art of admitting your knees have a vote. We talk recovery, realistic pickup hoops, and why the smartest play might be asking for the pass right in your chest. Then we take a hard look at fragile pride—how seeing an ex with someone “better” can spin you out—and trade jokes and truths on comparison, status, and the stories we tell ourselves to feel okay. The laughs land, but the takeaways stick: don't make policy a suggestion, and don't let ego drive the car.We round things out with movie recs (Shawshank Redemption, Big Fish, Predator entries), a nod to coin-collecting apps, and a Powerball daydream, all threaded by the same theme: choices, chance, and what we value. If you've ever wrestled with workplace rules, midlife fitness, or the sting of a bruised ego, pull up a chair. Hit play, subscribe, and share a moment that made you think—or laugh out loud. And if you've got a hot take on “consensual vs. allowed,” drop it in our DMs and leave a review so we can keep this conversation rolling. Thanks for listening to the Nobody's Talking Podcast. Message me with comments or questionsEver notice how vacations can flip a switch in your brain—from grounded and intentional to impulsive and “whatever goes” almost instantly? In this episode, Kristin explores why travel is such a common trigger for emotional eating—and how you can enjoy food, freedom, and unforgettable experiences without falling into all-or-nothing thinking. Using a real-life cruise story filled with buffets, FOMO, and soft-serve ice cream, she breaks down what's actually happening in your brain when routine disappears—and how to stay connected to who you are, even when everything feels different. You'll learn ten practical, realistic strategies you can actually use on real trips with real temptations. She talks about setting vacation intentions that feel empowering (not restrictive), using first-bite awareness to get more enjoyment from less, and keeping simple anchor habits—like movement, hydration, and a quick morning check-in—to remind your brain, I'm still me.Kristin also dives into emotional awareness on the road, showing how simply naming what you feel can reduce urgency and interrupt the automatic “feel → eat” cycle so many women experience when stress rises or plans change. You'll hear about a 10-second reset you can use anywhere, gentle “plus-one” movement ideas to calm your nervous system, and a satisfy-don't-stuff approach that makes leaving food on your plate (or sharing bites) feel neutral—not shameful. This episode isn't about perfection. It's about coming home feeling proud, energized, and aligned with your goals—without needing a “reset” when you return. If you're traveling soon (or still trying to recover from your last trip), this one's for you.Connect with me online:1. Description:Today we're talking to someone whose work really hits right where we live this year — in that messy middle space where you know you need joy, but you're not totally sure how to find your way back to it. Sarah Catherine “SC” Perot created Styles of Joy, which is genuinely one of the most grounding, practical, soul-forward frameworks we've encountered in a long time.  SC is an author, speaker, Vanderbilt professor, and self-proclaimed joy enthusiast whose work explores how we reclaim joy in seasons of transition, loss, rebuilding, and reinvention. Her debut book blends personal storytelling, cultural observation, and her CAPS Framework—Cultivate, Adopt, Protect, and Spread—a blueprint for understanding how joy works in us, around us, and through us. In this conversation, we talk about reclaiming joy after difficult seasons, the identity shifts that come with major life transitions, the science and soulfulness of joy, and why small, daily practices matter more than we think. SC brings brilliance, compassion, and practicality to a topic that often feels elusive, reminding us that joy isn't something we “earn” — it's something we can cultivate and choose, even in the midst of imperfect lives. If you've been craving a reset, a reorientation, or just a little more light in your day, this episode is a beautiful place to begin. Thought-provoking Quotes: “Music is like a scent that can transport us back in time. We have so many memories bookmarked in our heads.” – SC Perot “Joy can meet us in our quiet moments. It can meet us at a concert in a room full of people drowned in confetti. In this solo December episode, I continue a month-long series dedicated to educating parents about the real dangers our kids face online. After last week's story about Adam Tate, today I share two more real cases—one involving sextortion and another involving swatting—that every parent needs to understand. These aren't rare events. They're happening quickly, quietly, and often right under our noses while our kids sit in their bedrooms playing games like Roblox, Fortnite, and more.   You'll hear the heartbreaking story of 17-year-old Ryan Lass from San Jose, who took his own life within hours of being extorted by an overseas criminal network. Then we break down the tragic case of Andrew Finch, a 28-year-old father of two who was killed after a swatting prank triggered a full SWAT response to the wrong house. Both stories highlight how dangerous the digital world has become—and why we must be proactive, aware, and deeply involved in protecting our kids' online lives.     Timeline Summary: [0:00] Introduction [1:02] Why December episodes are focused on online safety and protecting kids. [1:50] Recap of last week's episode about Adam Tate and the Sean Ryan interview. [2:32] Why sinister online activity is escalating and why parents must stay informed. [3:02] Introducing two new stories: a sextortion case and a swatting case. [3:48] Explanation of "swatting" and why even young kids are now doing it. [4:48] Beginning Ryan Lass's story — a high school senior extorted online. [5:38] How a predator posed as a woman and launched a rapid blackmail attack. [6:07] FBI findings and identification of the international criminal ring. [7:41] Why Ryan's case matters: he was targeted, not reckless. [8:37] How modern predators manipulate teens using panic and pressure. [9:02] Parents' blind spots about who kids are connected to online. [10:17] Reminder that kids are connected to global predators—not just friends. [11:03] Introduction to Andrew Finch's swatting case. [12:06] The false 911 call describing a violent hostage situation. [12:57] How Andrew Finch was shot despite having no involvement. [14:01] Why swatting is deadly—and how it grew out of gaming communities. [15:39] The seriousness of online conflict and its real-world consequences. [16:33] How swatting and predator activity now infiltrate gaming platforms. [16:54] Why Bark is one of the most effective tools for monitoring kids' devices. [17:19] The need for proactive online supervision—like helmets for digital life. [18:18] A recent incident with my own son that Bark helped me catch early. [19:09] The urgency of protecting our kids from online predators. [19:32] Directing listeners to the show notes and resources at thedadedge.com/1412. [20:10] Additional resources including PenTester, YouTube links, and conversation guides. [20:27] Free "Conversations for the Car" PDF for kids ages 5–18. [20:45] Encouragement for parents: we fight this fight together.       Five Key Takeaways Predators are organized, trained, and global. Kids on gaming systems are interacting with far more than just "friends."  Sextortion happens extremely fast. In Ryan's case, the window from first contact to death was only hours.  Swatting is no longer just a gaming prank—it's deadly. The Andrew Finch tragedy shows how quickly it can turn fatal.  Parents must stay vigilant, informed, and engaged. Safety now requires ongoing conversations and digital monitoring.  Tools like Bark can save lives. Monitoring texts, DMs, and online chats can catch danger long before it escalates.      Links & Resources Mentioned   Bark Monitoring for Families: https://thedadedge.com/bark Ryan Montgomery Episode: https://open.spotify.com/episode/2GPd36fFPuLsBSlZp6WUvc?si=BPYACSoWRRin9MatFHMGbg Facebook Story Referenced in Episode: https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=32876961955250751&id=100000911118224&mibextid=wwXIfr&rdid=nnmVU8LFIdec2oLO# PenTester (Ryan Montgomery's Cybersecurity Site): https://pentester.com/ Ryan Montgomery's YouTube Channel (@0dayCTF): https://www.youtube.com/@0dayCTF NBC Bay Area News — Sextortion Case of San Jose Teen: https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/4-arrested-sextortion-san-jose-teen-suicide/3865298/?utm_source=chatgpt.com ABC News — Swatting Incident Leading to Andrew Finch's Death: https://abcnews.go.com/US/la-man-arrested-swatting-incident-led-police-killing/story?id=52057251&utm_source=chatgpt.com Podcast Episode Shownotes: http://thedadedge.com/1412   Closing Remark If this episode helped open your eyes to the realities our kids face online, please take a moment to rate, review, follow, and share the show. We talk consistency, guests, gear, distribution, and why downloads don't matter nearly as much as people think.Key Highlights:- Podcasting is a mindset, not a metric:It's about relationships, reps, and distribution — not downloads.- Stop worrying about saturation:There isn't your podcast yet. That's the only one missing.- Consistency wins:I've released my Friday rant every week for 5+ years — no excuses.- 1,200+ episodes later…The show became my own mastermind, business school, and network builder.- Best guests aren't the "big names.":My highest-performing episode was a first-time guest with a powerful story.- Ask questions others don't:Look for what lights your guest up, not just what they're known for.- Start simple:Cheap mic, basic webcam, Zoom/Riverside — and launch with 10 episodes ready.- Repurpose everything:One episode becomes clips, emails, blogs, YouTube — a full content ecosystem.- Let the first 35 episodes teach you:The show evolves. Don't force a niche too early.- Podcasting grows your business indirectly:Warm relationships - cold DMs. Clients often come months later. If you liked this episode, share it with someone sitting on the fence about starting a podcast. In this episode, I really enjoyed picking the brains of Niki Hutchison, a marketing strategist who is passionate about online businesses marketing themselves like pros. We discuss moving away from amateur ways of doing things to ensure you are marketing like a professional. Even though I am not a trained marketer myself, I have loved learning about it over the last decade of running my business. Niki and I delve into many interesting areas, including demystifying what a 'strategy' actually is, the importance of a multi-channel approach, and the massive impact public speaking can have on your business growth.   Key Takeaways: Marketing strategy doesn't have to be complicated: Niki explains that strategy is often over-complicated, but it is simply about starting with your business objective and deciding how to use different channels to achieve it. Don't rely on a single channel: One of the biggest mistakes small businesses make is relying on just one platform; instead, you should leverage your own channels (like your email list) alongside partnerships and other people's audiences. The power of in-person connection: Niki shares that speaking on stages and building real-life connections is currently the most effective way she is growing her audience and establishing trust quickly. Consistency creates trust: A major issue is 'ghosting' your marketing; disappearing and reappearing makes it difficult to establish trust with your audience, so it is vital to find a sustainable rhythm. From Overlooked to Fully Booked: Being 'fully booked' isn't about having zero white space in your diary; it's that confident feeling that you are winning at business, clients are coming in, and momentum is building.   Episode Highlights: 02:59 – Niki demystifies the word "strategy" and explains why it is actually quite simple. 07:59 – The danger of relying on just one social media channel and the importance of partnerships. 12:54 – Why in-person speaking and events are Niki's most exciting marketing tool right now. 20:19 – How to build reciprocal partnerships to help spread the word about your launches. 34:23 – Niki's top tips for creating a marketing plan that fits into your actual life without leading to burnout.   About The Guest: Niki Hutchison is a marketing strategist who helps business owners and brands take a multi-channel marketing approach to market like a pro. She runs two businesses: her personal brand teaching business owners how to market and grow, and an agency specialising in launching for organisations. You can find Niki on Instagram @nikihutchinson, where she basically lives in her DMs, or connect with her on LinkedIn. You can also find out about her in-person events at her website.   Mentioned in this episode: Adventures in Marketing: The event Niki hosts in Edinburgh with her friend Abby. Enterprise Nation: Niki is an advisor and trainer for this platform. Adobe Express Scheduler: The tool Niki uses to schedule her content. If you've ever wondered why your product, kit, or training isn't taking off even though it's great, this episode will be a wake-up call. Sheila breaks down the exact reason most beauty businesses stay stuck: they're relying solely on word of mouth and not building a digital ecosystem that works on autopilot. You'll hear Sheila walk this business owner through a clear, simple two-part formula: 1. Get seen — visibility through content & ads 2. Get chosen — conversion through trust-building systems This episode is a must-listen for lash trainers, PMU educators, product creators, or anyone wanting consistent sales without burning out. ⭐ 5 Key Points From the Episode 1. Visibility Can't Rely on Word of Mouth Alone Sheila explains that if you want consistent, predictable growth, word of mouth is not enough. You need digital visibility that runs 24/7. 2. There Are Only Two Content Types: Organic & Paid Organic content builds trust. Paid content (ads) builds reach. Both are needed if you want trainers to see your kit as an option. 3. Trainers Only Choose Brands They See Repeatedly Visibility → familiarity → trust → sales. Your kits won't sell if trainers never see them online. 4. Automation Is the Only Way to Scale Without Burnout Sheila walks her through creating automated sales funnels, email sequences, DMs, and follow-up systems so she can grow her brand while raising her kids. 5. Being Seen Gets You Considered — But Being Chosen Requires Conversations Once people see your ads and content, what converts them is the messaging, follow-up, and nurturing process behind the scenes. Brady Lowe is a connector, educator, and experience-maker who founded Taste Network and the nonprofit Piggy Bank, spending more than two decades building unforgettable collaborations between chefs, farmers, hotels, and brands. Through his Next 10 coaching and accelerator hub, Brady helps hospitality founders design smarter events, deeper guest relationships, and sustainable revenue with a focus on pairings, playbooks, and pre-visit engagement. Susan and Brady chat during this special in-person episode, recorded at The Pub at EAV. • How to use Facebook groups, comments, and DMs to attract sports fans and turn them into faithful regulars • Why "11 to 35 micro-interactions" often have to happen before a guest spends a dollar with you • Ways to make your social media as personal and welcoming as your host stand or bar top • The origin story of Taste Network and how a single wine-and-cheese pairing can shape an entire career • How to think about guest engagement as "relationship currency" that carries your brand through tough times • What a strong pre-visit engagement sequence looks like for restaurants, hotels, and bars • Practical examples of surprise-and-delight moments that guests can replicate at home and rave about for months • How to turn recipes, rituals, and house favorites into high-value digital giveaways that build your email list • Why most hospitality social media fails (and what to ask your social media person about actual revenue) • How to download your Instagram data and use AI to audit what's working and who your real audience is • What to expect from the 2026 World Cup in terms of premium experiences, demand, and guest expectations • The key non-negotiables Brady uses to design memorable F&B experiences: surprise, emotional sequencing, and human connection *** Our Top Three Takeaways 1. Engagement before the visit is the new battleground for hospitality success. Brady argues that guest engagement must begin long before someone walks through the door. Restaurants and hotels should treat Instagram and their websites as extensions of the front door—places where you start building relationship equity. A simple "hello," a thoughtful comment, or an acknowledgment of someone's interaction can fundamentally shift how guests perceive your brand once they arrive. Most brands post but don't connect, and that is the biggest miss today. 2. Hospitality operators need training, tools, and intentionality around social media—and most don't have it. He's adamant that restaurants and hotels rarely train their teams to engage digitally. Social media isn't just a marketing channel; it's a hospitality channel. He encourages leaders to audit their digital presence, use tools like ChatGPT to evaluate Instagram data, create value-focused lead magnets (recipes, techniques, guides), and measure whether social efforts actually drive revenue. Without this skill set, the business model is incomplete. 3. First-time "transformational moments" are at the heart of memorable hospitality. From his earliest career epiphany—watching a guest have a life-changing food experience—to building Taste Network and Next 10, Brady centers everything around delivering unforgettable moments. His non-negotiables: surprise, carefully sequenced emotional storytelling, and genuine human connection. These principles apply whether you're designing an event, launching a restaurant, or building community—and they're key to earning loyalty and sustaining brands through peaks and valleys. Every wellness biz owner eventually bumps into the same monster: the endless, energy-draining, soul-diluting demand to "show up everywhere, all the time." Every platform wants your full devotion. Every algorithm wants your firstborn. And meanwhile you're over here trying to build an actual business. But there is a shortcut. And almost no one is talking about it. It's the quiet powerhouse behind my visibility, my searchability, my conversions, my consistency and honestly, my sanity. Hidden underneath all that noise is a shortcut — a way to stay front of mine without having to pour hours into daily content creation. It's the thing that makes me present on every platform I care about… even on the weeks where life is lifing and the algorithm is feral. Inside this episode, I'm breaking down: the real reason content feels overwhelming (it's not what you think) the overlooked content format that quietly builds trust, authority and community how to choose the version of this method that fits your energy, your audience and your business model why doing less actually helps your clients move through their journey with you faster the batching rhythm that frees up hours every month my personal idea-generation system that makes "I don't know what to post" disappear how one piece of content can become six (or more) without extra work what happens when Google starts picking up your content (hello, evergreen visibility) For the first time, I'm also walking you through my behind-the-scenes workflow — the exact process that keeps me visible everywhere while creating far less than people assume. This isn't about hustling harder or posting more. If you've been stuck in the "what do I post today?" cycle… this episode is going to feel like a deep exhale. 8 Proven Ways to Grow Your Audience Without Spending a penny

In this episode, I share with you eight proven, no-cost strategies to grow your audience - without spending money on ads. I believe that with consistency and creativity, you don't need a big budget to build reach. I walk you through actionable tactics: from podcast guesting and public speaking, to creative lead magnets and AI-optimized content. If you're looking for ways to grow your following organically, this episode is for you. Key Takeaways 1. Organic growth - without ads - is about long-term consistency, not quick wins. The strategies I share (guesting, speaking, collaborations, lead magnets, AI-optimized content) don't deliver instant overnight growth — but they build sustainable exposure, trust, and engagement over time. Because they leverage existing audiences and evergreen content, they can continue attracting new people long after the work is done. 2. Collaboration beats isolation: tapping into other people's platforms can grow your reach faster. By guesting on podcasts, speaking at events, joining bundles or summits, or collaborating with communities and peers, you get access to listeners/followers who already trust the host or community — which means you don't have to start building your audience from zero. It's a faster, more efficient way to grow an engaged audience than relying solely on your own channels. 3. Lead magnets and interactive content (quizzes, DMs, AI-optimized offers) turn passive interest into real connection - which builds deeper relationships and higher conversion potential. Instead of hoping people stumble on you, these tools invite people to take action — subscribe, engage, respond. That deepens their commitment and gives you a direct path to nurture them, rather than passively waiting.
