Humans will be extinct within 1,000 years. Ed Andrew talks to acclaimed neuroscientist and environmental activist Professor George Paxinos about how the future of our planet is in our hands though we are unlikely to do anything about it due to human evolution. He believes that the anatomy of our brain will prevent us from making the radical choices we need to preserve humanity. George was the first person to map the human mind and has over 50 published books. Though today he has just written his first novel A River Divided based on his knowledge of neuroscience, human evolution and eco-activism. He prefers to call himself an environmental activist rather than scientist as this is where his passion lies. We take a deep dive into the human mind, its never ending narrative and how only our relation to our personal environment can change our behaviour.

In this episode our host Ed Andrew explains the change of name to Human Impact, the reasons and advice behind it. Ed also introduces the book Kintsugi which is about overcoming adversity and showing vulnerability as a strength, how we are all built to deal with and overcome pain, whether it is a job loss, bereavement, financial loss or loss of a relationship. Kingtsugi is the Japanese art of embracing imperfections and finding happiness by author, psychologist and wellness consultant Tomas Navarro. "Japanese Kintsugi masters delicately patch up broken ceramics with gold adhesive, leaving the restoration clearly visible to others. Psychologist Tomás Navarro believes that we should approach our lives with the same philosophy. Everyone faces suffering, but it is the way in which we overcome our troubles, and heal our emotional wounds, that is key. We shouldn't conceal our repairs, they are proof of our strength. Navarro presents real solutions to genuine problems that he has seen in his professional practice. His anecdotes demonstrate that it is possible to transform adversity or setbacks into a strength. His psychological understanding and perspective will leave you feeling courageous and prepared, should you experience misfortune, be it heartbreak, a job loss or bereavement. Often practised alongside Ikigai (or the art of finding one's life purpose), Kintsugi shows you how happiness can be found again, often against all odds. A painful experience can in fact make you a more determined individual, ready to face the world with optimism.

The holiday season is upon us, and this time of the year often brings unwelcome guests - stress and depression. According to the New York Post 31% of Americans describe the holiday season as frantic (Festive Stress is Ruining America’s Holiday Season). It’s no wonder. The holiday season comes with a dizzying array of demands - parties, shopping, entertaining and cleaning, just to name a few. This is a time of the year when money, or lack of money, leaves people frustrated and often times feeling helpless. And how about the general expectation that everyone must be in the holiday spirit, 24 x 7? Stats also show that thirty-five percent of American workers report an increase in work related stress (Safety and Health Magazine) during the holiday season. Balancing holiday events and work obligations, having fewer people around to share the workload, and knowing that time off often means returning to a heavy workload in January are just a few of the reasons. Feeling stressed? Ed Andrew’s says the first thing you should do is get unplugged and get outdoors, adding that there is scientific evidence to support this suggestion. Eric Remensperger is a lawyer, entrepreneur, speaker and wellness advocate based in Los Angeles. Eric has been a “big law” practicing lawyer for over 30 years, but for the last 20 years his passion has been all things relating to wellness.  Prior to moving from New York to Los Angeles in 1995 he went from a work-hard play-hard cigarette smoking wall street lawyer to a gym rat and then a serious biohacker.  The transition started in earnest in 1997 after he became the investor partner in a holistic center with a doctor of Chinese medicine.  His passion continued and he was, or so he thought, the healthiest 59-year old on the planet.  That all changed in June of 2016 when he was diagnosed with an advanced stage of prostate cancer.  This pushed him even deeper into this passion for health and wellness, and he did an incredible dive into all things relating to cancer, from the causes, to the therapies and interventions.  His ability to take a big picture perspective of a complex disease and filter out the signal from all the noise is amazing.  While he does not like to use the word “cure” (since, in his view it is a more matter of getting into a healing state, which he will go into), he was declared to be into remission 7 months after first being diagnosed. Eric talks to Ed Andrew about his journey, the life changing moments and how his 20 year passion for wellness provided the answers when he needed them most. In a frank and entertaining chat we discuss a little bit of science, lots of nutrition and his quest (his new business and book the quest to cure cancer) to find the root cause of his illness in a mission to help others prevent the illness taking grip in the first place and to give hope to those who are suffering.  In brief to find joy in what you do every day at work and at home and that happiness and inner peace is the best antidote to developing stress induced illness.

We talk about her sabbatical, the types of social networking platforms she uses especially linkedin and coaching and mentoring. She has abundant intellect, compassion and above all humour.
