On the first day of a camp where Alan teaches teens entrepreneurial skills, a student said, “You’re a Christian, aren’t you? I can tell.” Before Alan said he was a Christian or wore his favorite socks and ties decorated with Christian symbols, the teen said he saw Jesus through Alan’s words, actions, and attitude. They discussed how they could better represent Jesus wherever they go. Saying we’re Christian and wearing clothes with Christian messages are good things. However, the Bible teaches that the way we live and love as we share the gospel are the true identifiers of those who follow Jesus. The apostle Paul and the other believers in Corinth were compelled, or driven, to please God by living with an eternal perspective while sharing Him with others (2 Corinthians 5:9-14). When we’re committed to living for Jesus instead of for ourselves, the Holy Spirit changes our perspective, character, priorities, and ways of interacting with others (vv. 15-17). Our new life in Christ is intended to represent Him while we point others to Him, “as though God were making his appeal through us” (vv. 18-20). Empowered by the Spirit, we’re given the joy and responsibility of representing Jesus wherever we go.

Explore the shocking evidence that Mother Mary was the true, sole witness to Christ's Resurrection, a key truth deliberately obscured by gospel writers to strip women of spiritual authority and leadership. You will follow a mystical quest from the Knights Templar's veneration of sacred female heads to the Chintamani Stone carried by women like Helena Roerich, recognizing them as the incarnate Divine Feminine. The Holy Spirit Helps Us Pray | Romans 8:26–27

“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.” (Romans 8:26–27 NLT) There will be times when you don’t know what or how to pray. You may be overwhelmed with a burden. You may be discouraged. You may be depressed. You may be afraid. That’s when the Holy Spirit steps in to help you. Referring to the Holy Spirit, Jesus said, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you” (John 14:16 NLT). The word Advocate also can be translated as Comforter. It comes from the Greek word parakletos, which means “called alongside to help.” The Holy Spirit comes alongside you to assist you in your prayer. He serves as an advocate in interceding for you and pleading your cause before the Father. Let’s face it, some prayer requests are too complex to put into words. Some situations are beyond your ability to fully grasp. Some cause you to confront your self-interests in uncomfortable ways, requiring you to choose between what’s easiest for you in the short term and what’s best for you in the long term. In situations like these, arranging your thoughts and emotions into coherent sentences may seem next to impossible. The good news is that sometimes the most profound prayers are nothing more than a sigh or a groan—an emotional SOS, signaling that you’re overwhelmed and don’t know what to say. I can attest. After my son died, I struggled to come to grips with the reality of his being gone. I prayed to God, but I didn’t always know what to pray. So, sometimes I just said, “Oh, Lord.” Sometimes I just groaned. Sometimes I just cried. Sometimes I just sighed. But that was all I needed to do because I wasn’t crying out against God; I was crying out to Him for help. And His Holy Spirit was ready to assist. The apostle Paul wrote, “And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will” (Romans 8:26–27 NLT). Don’t let a lack of words keep you from praying. No matter what you’re experiencing, take it to the Lord. Give Him your sighs, your groans, your tears, your anxiety, your rage. Even if you can muster no more than “God, please,” it’s enough for the Holy Spirit to work with. He will make your needs known to the One who can bring ultimate good from any situation. Romans 7:13-25 — Having unpacked numerous New Testament passages in the first part of this series, Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones moves to an in-depth look at three possible identities of the wretched man: the regenerate, the unregenerate, or the immature Christian. In this sermon on Romans 7:13-25 titled “The Wretched Man Identity (2),” Dr. Lloyd-Jones shows that the identity of this wretched man in Romans 7 is not the regenerate man as this is incompatible with other scriptural teaching. But neither is it describing an unregenerate man, as the man is experiencing genuine conviction of sin. He shows an awareness of his own weakness and failure, but there is no mention of the Holy Spirit and indwelling Christ in the text, thus it cannot be an unregenerate man. Having shown he is neither a regenerate or unregenerate man, Dr. Lloyd-Jones turns to the question of whether this can be a description of an immature believer. He emphatically denies this possibility because no matter the situation, it is impossible for a Christian to utter the cry of verse 24. The Christian does not despair. No, he fights sin and uses restraint and care to mortify his flesh. So then how do we identify this man? How are we to understand the meaning of Paul's words? Dr. Lloyd-Jones directs our attention to Paul's intent in writing this passage. The intent is to show that the law is not salvific. This is the point Paul is trying to highlight in dramatic fashion. When man tries to keep the law, he falls under conviction, but has no hope. He doesn't know or understand the truth of the gospel. This, says Dr. Lloyd-Jones is the central meaning of this difficult passage of Scripture. In Dr Lloyd-Jones's own words, the man described in Romans 7 is “a man who is experiencing an intense conviction of sin, a man who has been given to see, by the Spirit, the holiness of the Law; and he feels utterly condemned. He is aware of his weakness for the first time, and his complete failure” ( D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Exposition of Chapter 7:1-8:4 The Law: Its Functions and Limits, Edinburgh, Banner of Truth, 1973, p.255). Paul is showing us that there is one great and glorious hope for us. What the law could not do, thanks be to God, the grace of God provides. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/603/29

Romans 7:25 — Is the apostle Paul's exclamation of wretchedness in Romans 7:24-25 a description of the regenerate man at his very best in this life? Who exactly is speaking? Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones explores the exact meaning of this well-known and difficult passage in this sermon on Romans 7:25 titled “The Wretched Man Identity.” As the first sermon in a two-part sermon series, Dr. Lloyd-Jones walks us through seeming parallel passages of Scripture to shed light on the question of the identity of this man — is this a regenerate or unregenerate man? Or perhaps an immature Christian? At first glance, these passages seem to describe the same groaning and state of misery as the man in Romans 7:24-25. But after examining 1 Corinthians 9:27, Ephesians 6, and Galatians 5 closely, Dr. Lloyd-Jones shows that the these passages, while appearing similar on the surface, are different, indeed opposite, of the man we find in Romans 7. These texts are referring to a certainty of triumph and victory because of the role of the Holy Spirit. It is the success of a regenerate man who is sanctifying himself by the Spirit and is thereby able to crucify sin. By laying the hermeneutical foundation of examining other passages, Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones prepares his listeners for the second part to this series by teaching that Romans 7:24-25, in spite of every resolution of the man, is a declaration of captivity. The law of sin in his members is too strong and he is sold under sin. Listen as Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones carefully exegetes this passage, contrasts it with other New Testament passages, and lays the groundwork to discuss in-depth the identity of this man.

2 Timothy 1:1a, 2a, 4b-6, 8-9a, 10-14 - Paul, … To Timothy, my beloved child … I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands … Therefore … share in suffering for the Gospel by the power of God, who saved us … because of His own purpose and grace … and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel, for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher, which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that He is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me. Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you.

Your spiritual gifts determine how God wants to use your life.  Are you willing to allow God to use your life, for His glory, to build the kingdom of God?  Are you willing to say “yes” to God?Main Points:1. The Bible has a lot to say about spiritual gifts.  There are at least 20 of them listed in the Bible.  We don't have time to define them all today, but you can read about them in these passages of Scripture:  Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12, and Ephesians 4.  2. Peter contends that each of us has received at least one spiritual gift when he states, “As each one has received a gift.” These gifts of grace are to be distinguished from natural talents, skills, and abilities.3. What this tells us is that God wants to use our lives uniquely. He has gifted and enabled us to serve Him and others. God intends for your life to be a blessing to others. You have a particular role in the work of God, and by the Holy Spirit, God has given you a gift to make this happen.Today's Scripture Verses:1 Peter 4:10-11 - “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.”Romans 12:6 – “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.”1 Corinthians 7:7 – “But each of you has your own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that.”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group

The Holy Spirit Nurtures Spiritual Fruit | Galatians 5:22–23

“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” (Galatians 5:22–23 NLT) How do I know if you’re a Christian? For that matter, how do you know if I’m a Christian? You can’t see my heart. You can’t see my faith. But you can see the results of my faith. Jesus said, “Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions” (Matthew 7:20 NLT). I can’t determine if you’re a follower of Jesus merely by your profession; I need to see evidence in you. And that evidence is spiritual fruit. Spiritual fruit doesn’t grow overnight; it takes time. Sometimes the best judge of the growth in your life is another person. You may be introspective and ask, “Have I become more like Jesus in the last twenty-four hours?” But that’s like trying to watch your kids grow. The growth is too subtle to notice in real time. But someone who hasn’t seen your kids in months may say, “Wow, they’ve really grown!” Similarly, you may not see spiritual growth in your own life. But someone else might say, “You’ve really changed!” That’s the work of the Holy Spirit in you. And that’s important because Jesus said, “You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name” (John 15:16 NLT). Jesus wants to see spiritual fruit in your life. The apostle Paul identifies the fruit in Galatians 5:22–23. It starts with love—love for God and for others. Jesus said, “If you love me, obey my commandments” (John 14:15 NLT). We bear spiritual fruit when we show our love for the Lord. We show our love for the Lord by doing what He says. The Holy Spirit helps produce spiritual fruit by reminding us of God’s commands. Jesus also said, “Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples” (John 13:35 NLT). We bear spiritual fruit when we show love to others—especially to people who are hard to love. The Holy Spirit helps in this area by reminding us of the love that God has shown us. We express that love by maintaining a spirit of joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Another translation of Galatians 5:22–23 puts it this way: “Things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely” (MSG). How do you bring forth this fruit? Jesus said, “But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!” (John 15:7 NLT). You remain in Christ. You sink your roots deeply in the soil of God’s Word. You get your nourishment from it. You stand strong when conditions get bad. You invite the Holy Spirit to cut away the dead or unhealthy branches in your life. That’s how you produce spiritual fruit. Reflection question: What does spiritual fruit look like in your life? Why does the Word of God produce such different results in people's lives? Jesus said the difference isn't the seed—it's the soil of the heart. In this message from Mark 4: 3–20, Chad Everett teaches on the thorny soil—the heart conditions that hear the Word but allow the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desire for other things to choke it out. These thorns don't just distract us—they suffocate the breath of God's Word in us. But God gives us a way to respond: cast your cares on Him, practice generosity that breaks the power of riches, and seek the one thing—Jesus—above all else. This isn't just about a parable; it's about your heart right now. Will you allow thorns to choke the Word, or will you receive it, accept it, and bear fruit that multiplies thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold? Lean in and let the Holy Spirit show you what needs to be cleared, so the Word can breathe fresh life in you. The Roads Church: https://theroads.church

This week on Catholic Moms in the Middle, I'm diving into a topic that every single one of us faces, change. Have you ever felt like the rug was pulled out from under you? Maybe your kids are grown and suddenly the house that was once noisy and chaotic is now painfully quiet. Or maybe your marriage looks completely different than you ever imagined. Midlife seems to come with one change after another...sometimes chosen, sometimes not and it can feel scary, overwhelming, or even unfair. But here's the good news: God meets us in the middle of change. He doesn't leave us to figure it out on our own. In fact, He uses change...even the painful kind to shape us, strengthen us, and lead us closer to Him. In this episode, I share: ✨ My own story of becoming an empty nester and how God used that season to open new doors. ✨ The difference between clinging to control and surrendering to God's will (and the surprising peace that comes when we finally let go). ✨ How Scripture reminds us that every closed door is really an invitation to a new beginning with God on the other side. ✨ Reflection questions you can ask yourself as you walk through your own season of transition. Friend, if you're staring at a closed door right now, whether in motherhood, marriage, career, or another part of your life this episode is for you. You don't have to just survive change. With God, you can thrive in it. Jennie Guinn is a Catholic life coach, retreat leader, and founder of Catholic Moms in the Middle. With over 26 years of experience as an educator, administrator, and Director of Religious Education, she is passionate about walking with midlife women through life's transitions—especially those that come from unexpected changes in relationships, identity, or purpose. A devoted mother of three grown sons and proud grandmother of two, Jennie creates sacred spaces where women can encounter the love of the Father, be transformed by the Holy Spirit, so they can magnify Christ in their everyday lives. Jennie is the host of the Catholic Moms in the Middle podcast and a featured voice on Nashville Catholic Radio and Radio Maria USA, where she shares encouragement and faith-filled wisdom with women navigating the twists and turns of midlife.

Hosea invites the people to return to the Lord with the assurance that God will respond as surely as the dawn breaks and the spring rains fall. Yet the chapter also reveals God's grief over Israel and Judah's fleeting devotion—love that evaporates like morning mist. The discussion explores God's heart for relationship over ritual, emphasizing that He desires love and obedience rather than empty sacrifices. Curtis and Sally connect Hosea's message to Jesus' words in Matthew 9, where He calls for mercy instead of ritual offerings, reminding us that God has always sought hearts that truly know Him. They also consider the cost of discipleship: being vulnerable before God, allowing His Word to cut to the heart, and engaging deeply in scripture, prayer, and community. Amid judgment, Hosea points to God's enduring desire to heal, restore, and make His people whole. The episode closes with the reminder that obedience and love are greater than any outward act of sacrifice, and that God's promises of renewal are as steady as the morning light.

Daily Dose of Hope September 30 and October 1, 2025   Scripture – John 1:19-51   Prayer: Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful. And kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And you will renew the face of the earth. Lord, by the light of the Holy Spirit you have taught the hearts of your faithful. In the same Spirit help us to relish what is right and always rejoice in your consolation. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.   Welcome back to the Daily Dose of Hope, the devotional/podcast that complements the New Hope Church daily Bible reading plan.  We are currently working our way through a deep dive into the Gospels and Acts.  Today, we continue our deep dive into John 1.    Today's reading begins with John the Baptist, although the Gospel of John does not use the term Baptist to describe him.  Earlier in the chapter, John had been called a witness to the light.  So, the Jewish leaders sent people to ask John who he is, specifically is he the Messiah?  Is he Elijah?  Is he the prophet?  Their frustration is evident.  They want answers.    John will not be labeled.  Instead, he describes himself using the words of Isaiah.  He is the “voice of one crying out in the wilderness.”  John's call is to repent and be baptized.  His message wouldn't be popular but it was necessary.  In other Gospels, John makes it clear that he isn't the Messiah but he is preparing the way for the Messiah.  This does not thrill the Jewish leaders.  They want more concrete information.  Why is he baptizing?  John says that he uses water to baptize but one is coming that will be much greater than he who will do more.   As John continues to baptize, he begins to testify about Jesus.  When he first sees Jesus, he calls him the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.  As we move through the book of John, we will see how the author begins to make connections between Jesus and the Passover lamb.  John the testifier describes Jesus as one who outranks him.  He then describes Jesus' baptism, with the Spirit descending on him like a dove and a voice (presumably the Father) declaring that the man on whom the dove descends will baptize with the Holy Spirit.  John then testifies that Jesus is God's chosen one.   Let's talk about that title, “God's chosen one.”  Other translations use the title, “Son of God.”  Clearly, John is making a statement that Jesus is the Messiah.  He is the one they have been waiting for to save God's people.  He is the one who God has sent, uniquely selected by God to fulfill a divine purpose.  Jesus is God himself, sent to fulfill prophecy, to usher in God's Kingdom, and to redeem all of creation.    The remainder of this first chapter is Jesus calling his disciples.  Andrew and John were the first two disciples Jesus called and they were originally disciples of John the Baptist.  When they hear John the Baptist declare that Jesus is the Lamb of God, they acted immediately and boldly followed Jesus without any kind of hesitation.    It's as they begin to follow Jesus (literally follow him) that Jesus asks them a simple question, “What do you want?”  They answer with a question of their own, “Where are you staying?” And Jesus then invites them to “Come and see...”  They end up spending the day with Jesus.    Jesus invites all of us to “come and see...” where he is staying and what he is doing.  Keep in mind that Jesus is always up to something, he is always at work among us.    He also invites Philip and Nathaniel to come and see and they choose to do so as well.  It takes a bit of convincing for Nathaniel who is convinced that nothing good could come from Nazareth.  But he sees Jesus' power and he too decides to follow.   I think sometimes we make an invitation to follow Jesus a little too difficult.  What would it look like for us to simply invite people to “come and see” what Jesus is up to.  A decision to follow Jesus may just start with curiosity.  That's okay.  Invite the people around you to come and see and Jesus will do the rest.   Blessings, Pastor Vicki

Your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you . . . . You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. — 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 We live in a world obsessed with comfort. The number of air conditioning units in the world is expected to triple by 2050. Tens of billions of dollars are spent on pain medication every year, and the market is forecast to increase 50 percent by 2032. Myriads of other products offer comforts we “can't live without.” And yet nearly every day in my work as a college chaplain I meet and pray with people who are anxious and stressed out! We all need comfort, and we all have important needs, especially for our physical, emotional, and spiritual health. But too often we look for comfort in the wrong places. Being part of a community and having a sense of belonging is part of the answer to finding comfort for daily living, but the best way to find comfort is in a right relationship with God, who provides the true and lasting comfort of full life forever. The apostle Paul reminds us that we do not belong to ourselves but have been bought at a price—through the blood of Jesus, God's Son—who came to offer us new life through the gift of his own life. Belonging to Jesus, we are connected to each other as well. This world provides only limited, temporary comforts. But belonging to God through Jesus offers true and lasting comfort for both body and soul, during life and in the face of death. God, thank you that we are not our own but belong, “in life and in death,” to you. Amen.
