This week we're talking with Navy veteran John Barile about how he went from Navy Sea Air Rescue Swimmer to becoming a highly successful business owner. After the military Barile took a dive into business ownership when he opened an EverLine Coatings and Services franchise, which does parking lot line striping and pavement maintenance in the San Diego area. As veterans always have a story or two, Barile shared some great sea stories from his time as a Navy rescue swimmer. Including one involving a burly, bearded Navy Sailor with a huge dip who delivered one of the greatest recruitment pitches of all time! Barile described that while the pavement and line striping industry is a lesser-known business category, it's one of many skilled trade businesses that are booming. He also offered a closer look at EverLine Coatings and Services, and how the recent growth of San Diego's restaurant scene, has resulted in massive growth for his business. And he shared why veterans looking for higher income and job security should consider trade franchises like EverLine, which help owners paint a portrait of true business success. Her Marine is an Iraqi War Veteran and served his community as a Firefighter and her Navy Sailor trained in Nuclear Power. Married to a Navy Veteran and the daughter of a deceased Retired US Air Force LT. COL. She knows firsthand about INVISIBLE WOUNDS and how it can affect the individual, and their loved ones. After working with hundreds of Military, Veterans, and First Responders with all of their real estate needs, she continued to hear their stories of hardships. She decided to do so much more for them and help with the issues I was continuously exposed to. Since 2017 she has traveled the country in an RV raising awareness to PTSD, Suicide and Mental health in our heroes. In 2017 she purchased an RV and wrapped it in the American Flag with portraits of Military and Veterans. She named this mission and ministry, National Veteran Resources and quickly became a 501c3 not for profit. With more than 150,000 miles traveling solo, she is blessed to now have husband Randy join her with her therapy dogs Chellis and Scarlett. Our mission: To provide Veterans and Servicemembers experiencing depression, anxiety, PTSD, military sexual trauma or other mental health issues related to the military experience, counseling, holistic and spiritual support. The National Veteran Resources Mobile Unit travels city to city and state to state providing in person education and resources for family members and friends of Active Duty Military (Including National Guard and Reservists) and Veterans on signs of suicide and how to help your loved ones. In this episode, Jeannette talks to Yulia Denisyuk who is an award-winning travel photographer and writer with a special interest in stories about artisan crafts and ancient traditions. She explains why despite having an MBA in marketing and strategy and a highly successful career working for large corporations, she gave it all up to put travel, her passion, at the centre of her life. Yulia and Jeannette talk about how to find the courage to make transformative changes in your life. How to develop the resilience and tenacity to stop listening to the negative voices of others and to deal with imposter syndrome. So that you can switch to doing work that feeds you rather than drains you. Yulia talks about her Genius Women masterclass and the role mentors have played in her life. As well as providing advice to help anyone who wants to make a living from writing, photography, or their travels, to do so.   KEY TAKEAWAYS We all tend to automatically follow the most clearly defined path – get good grades, take a corporate job, get a mortgage, etc. Social pressure plays a big role in pushing us to do what everyone else does. Everyone is different. For some people doing well at a corporate job is their passion. Don´t compare yourself to others – row your own boat. Not doing something that you are passionate about is soul-destroying. Role models and mentors help you to get to where you want far faster. Imposter syndrome can really hold you back. Don´t give up too early. Be consistent, stubborn, keep going and keep learning. Remember how you spend your days is how you spend your life. Travel writers need humility, curiosity, tenacity, and the ability to pursue the story. In the podcast, Yulia explains how to get started in the field. Believe in yourself, follow your why, and take action consistently. If you do not yet have a passion. Follow your curiosity instead. Everyone has something special to offer – jewels inside. Recognise them and share them with everyone.   BEST MOMENTS ‘I left my corporate life behind, and I dedicated all of my subsequent journey to figuring out how I can do the lifestyle where travel is at the centre of it. ´ ‘When you try something new, it's important not to get discouraged too soon.' ‘The only way to get that experience is to start doing.' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. It's never too late to be BRAVE and BOLD and unlock your inner BRILLIANCE. July 16th marks the 6th anniversary of the deadly shooting at the Navy and Marine Corps Reserve Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. A homegrown violent extremist killed four U.S. Marines and a U.S. Navy Sailor that morning: Gunnery Sgt. Thomas Sullivan, Staff Sgt. David Wyatt, Sgt. Carson Holmquist, Lance Cpl. Squire Wells, and U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Smith all lost their lives. We know many of us still think about them every single day. At the time of the shooting, host Mike Abrams was just finishing up research on veteran employment that was published by the Center for Talent Innovation. The publisher asked that Mike write an afterword about the terrorist attack to complement the research, given that he was the battery commander of the unit and went down there after the shooting occurred. This week, Mike shares the afterword in remembrance of the Chattanooga Fallen Five.   ABOUT US Welcome to the FourBlock Podcast, a show that examines veteran career transition and the military-civilian divide in the workplace. General Charles Krulak coined the term "Three Block War" to describe the nature of 21st-century military service defined by peace-keeping, humanitarian aid, and full combat. But what happens next? Veterans are often unprepared to return home and begin new careers. We call this the Fourth Block.  FourBlock is a national non-profit that has supported thousands of transitioning service members across the nation in beginning new and meaningful careers.  Mike Abrams (@fourblock) is an Afghanistan veteran, founder of FourBlock, and author of two military transition books. He represents the military transition perspective. Lindsey Pollak (@lindsaypollak) is a career and workplace expert and New York Times bestselling author of three career advice books. Lindsey represents the civilian perspective of this issue.  Veterans, explore new industries and make the right connections. Find a career that fits your calling. 154: Blue Jacketeer Jonny Coreson On today’s episode, Blue Jacketeer Jonny Coreson, Joe Crane talks to active duty US Navy sailor, Jonny Coreson. Jonny comes from a small town in Alaska and is the founder of Blue Jacketeer. He and his partners take an innovative approach to Navy advancement exam prep. Using science and technology they are taking over the market in helping sailors advance in their careers.    Jonny in the Navy Jonny is currently active duty and has been in just under 10 years. He’s been around the block. He’s been to Japan, in bases in the US and has been stationed with the Marines. More recently he was a career counselor for 3 years at a major MTF (Military Treatment Facility). This experience has given him some insight into the transitioning world of sailors. “There is no better time to start your own business than when you are still active duty” - Joe Crane The Entrepreneurial Spirit From a young age, Jonny has felt the entrepreneurial spirit. He has always felt you can turn anything into a product or try to sell something like your usual lemonade stand to make money.   Today, he is part of Blue Jacketeer, a product that is part of Patriot Labs, LLC. It’s a company that Jonny and a friend started about a year ago to manage Blue Jacketeer and also to allow for some growth horizontally as they decided what they wanted to work on next. Starting with an App About 2 years ago, Jonny Coreson started a quiz app game on the iPhone where children can go on and practice their academic skills. Deployment hindered the success of this app but then he met his current business partner Alan.   Alan had the direction and Jonny was the business minded catalyst for Blue Jacketeer.   To hear the rest of Jonny’s story, download and listen to the entire episode Blue Jacketeer Jonny Coreson.
