Norm Macdonald is getting the documentary treatment from Judd Apatow and Netflix, and we're here for it. This week on Radio Labyrinth, we talk about the upcoming Norm documentary and why Norm remains one of the most unique and beloved voices in comedy. We also take some time to remember three entertainers we lost this week — Dolly Parton, Jaye P. Morgan and the legendary Tim Curry. Then it's back into the Labyrinth: Coyote vs. Acme pulls off an incredible comeback with record-setting reviews, we look at what's coming next from DC, Kit Harington is headed to Hogwarts as Gilderoy Lockhart, and for some reason the people behind the Teletubbies have decided they need AI.Plus, Tim and Lizzie completely derail things with a bizarre accent bit, we check out the new Ali G: Who Iz I? trailer in Trailer Trash, and run through this week's Views or Snooze and Staff Picks.Subscribe to Radio Labyrinth on YouTube, like the video, leave us a comment, and rate and review the podcast on Spotify.KEEP IT CANON!▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀Hosts: Tim Andrews, Jeff Leiboff, Dustin Lollar and Lizzie Bruce JonesAudio Podcast & YouTube Video Edited by Dustin Lollar ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀✨ Support Our Social Media & Merch:  https://linktr.ee/RadioLabyrinth

Comedy historian and author Kliph Nesteroff joins Jay to answer one of life's great mysteries: Why are Canadians so damn funny? From Jim Carrey and Norm Macdonald to Kids in the Hall, Nathan Fielder, SCTV, Michael J. Fox, and countless others, Canada has produced an absurd amount of comedy talent. Kliph has a theory about why — and it might have something to do with being an outsider looking in on America. Kliph also tells Jay about growing up in rural Canada, obsessing over comedy and The Simpsons, becoming “California sober” before ever moving to California, and the legendary high school election where he roasted his teachers in front of the entire school, won the presidency 398–2… and promptly got kicked out. They also dig into the strange history of Canadian television, why some brilliant Canadian comedians never become famous in America, what actually makes something funny, and why Southern California apparently doesn't count as moving to the United States. Kliph's new book, Sorry, We're Funny: How Canada Became a Comedy Powerhouse, explores how a country once dismissed as humorless became responsible for some of the funniest people in entertainment. And after nearly an hour of discussing what makes Canadians funny, absolutely no progress is made toward explaining Jay. Bio: Kliph Nesteroff is the author of four books about comedy: The Comedians, We Had a Little Real Estate Problem, Outrageous and the forthcoming Sorry, We're Funny: How Canada Became a Comedy Powerhouse. He often appears in his capacity as comedy historian on CNN, HBO and Vice and has worked on projects with Judd Apatow, Albert Brooks and the late Rob Reiner. Born in Castlegar, British Columbia, he grew up watching Wayne and Shuster and the Kids in the Hall on CBC. This episode of the Standard of Truth continues discussing the apostasy of Ezra Booth, a former Methodist minister who joined the early Church after witnessing Joseph Smith heal Elsa Johnson's arm.  Gerrit traces Booth's journey to Missouri in 1831, his disillusionment upon finding the future site of Zion to be a rough frontier town, and his subsequent public renunciation of the faith through nine letters published in the Ohio Star.  We examine how Booth reframed Mormonism as a deliberate deception rather than sincere belief, and how anti-Mormon arguments shifted from “converts are biblically ignorant” to “converts are insane” once educated ministers joined. Thanks to our Partners, Pico Technology, and AutelWatch Full Video EpisodeMatt Fanslow continues his exploration of game theory by examining the difference between a shop's official game and its shadow game. The official game is what ownership and management say the shop values: quality work, safety, fairness, employee support, customer care, and doing things the right way.The shadow game is what the shop's systems, incentives, habits, exceptions, and unwritten rules actually reward. Those two games are not always completely opposed, and the gap between them is not necessarily created intentionally. Management may sincerely believe in the official game while remaining unaware of the behaviors being produced by compensation plans, workflow problems, favoritism, poor communication, broken equipment, or inadequate support.Matt looks at how employees can respond rationally to the system in front of them, even when those responses undermine the shop's stated purpose. That may help explain dishonest, deviant, or destructive behavior, but it does not necessarily excuse it.The goal is not to pretend the shadow game does not exist. It is to identify it, understand what is creating it, and bring it into the light so the shop's actual systems move closer to its stated values. The episode then takes a much less serious turn as Matt attempts to choose his Mount Rushmore of stand-up comedians. Richard Pryor, Lenny Bruce, Joan Rivers, and Dave Chappelle make the final cut, but not without considerable hesitation and several deserving names being left behind.Topics DiscussedThe difference between the official game and the shadow gameWhy stated values and actual incentives often conflictProduction-based compensation versus quality expectationsUnpaid inspections and the behavior they may encourageFavoritism, gravy work, and inconsistent enforcementSafety claims versus unsafe or neglected equipmentFront-of-house and back-of-house information gapsHow imperfect information allows assumptions to spreadLocally rational behavior inside a dysfunctional systemExplaining behavior without excusing itManagement's responsibility to understand the real systemEmployees' responsibility to communicate problems honestlyWhen trying to improve a workplace becomes less reasonable than leaving itGolden handcuffs and the personal cost of remaining in a misaligned organizationWhether mission statements represent actual beliefs or marketing languageMatt's Mount Rushmore of stand-up comediansQuestions Raised in the EpisodeWhat does a shop say it rewards? What does it actually reward?Do compensation and workflow systems support the quality standards discussed in meetings? Are safety problems addressed when employees report them? Are rules and opportunities applied consistently? What behaviors are employees learning from the system, regardless of what management says? How closely does the shadow game align with the official game?Who belongs on the Mount Rushmore of stand-up comedy?Matt's Comedy Mount RushmoreRichard PryorLenny BruceJoan RiversDave ChappelleOther comedians considered include George Carlin, Robin Williams, Bill Burr, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Steve Martin, Steven Wright, Sam Kinison, Andrew Dice Clay, Norm Macdonald, and Bob Uecker. Thanks to our Partner, Pico TechnologyAre you chasing elusive automotive problems? Johnny Mac recounts an online report claiming Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, and Shane Gillis did impromptu sets at the Comedy Cellar after a Knicks game, then reacts to a “top 25 stand-ups of the 2000s” list that ranks Louis CK #1 and Chappelle #3, calling placements like Colin Quinn at #5 and Norm Macdonald at #2 too high. He shares Us Weekly “fun facts” about David Cross (morning person due to his daughter, signature chili, estimating temperature, phone contact Bob Odenkirk, sports starstruck moment with Chipper Jones, crush Nastassja Kinski, bucket list including space) and tells a Charlton Heston meeting story. He covers Marc Maron's 1995 Comedy Central pilot and Maron's criticism of talk-show viability and comics' free-speech framing, notes Taylor Tomlinson's essay collection “Actually, Nevermind” out Sept. 22, and highlights Nikki Glaser's Emmy ballot appearance for “Good Girl.” Mac reviews specials by Josh Johnson, Patton Oswalt, and Tony Hinchcliffe, shares Ryan Davis's critique of Hinchcliffe, reports late-night ratings boosted by Knicks lead-ins, explains Byron Allen's CBS economics, and summarizes Early praise for Fox's “FIFA World Cup After Hours with James Corden,” featuring Sebastian Maniscalco. 00:15 Cellar Surprise Sets with Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle and Shane Gillis01:07 Top Comics List React02:16 Ranking Hot Takes03:55 David Cross Fun Facts05:44 Celebrity Encounter Story07:36 Maron Pilot And Politics09:12 Taylor Tomlinson Book10:06 Nikki Glaser Emmy Song11:41 Specials Watch Recap14:46 Late Night Ratings Rundown17:18 Corden After Hours ReviewShare the show or I will play Nikki Glaser singing again!Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/daily-comedy-news-with-johnny-mac-a-daily-briefing-on-comedians-and-the-comedy-industry--4522158/support.Daily Comedy News with Johnny Mac is a daily podcast covering comedians, stand-up comedy, late night television, and the comedy industry. Jon Herold is mysteriously absent (definitely just watching the World Cup), so the crew rolls deep with Zak Paine, Matt Trump, Jaytriot, and Jordan Sather. The night kicks off with World Cup mania, a German tourist's culture shock tour through Buc-ee's and Waffle House, and a deep dive into Michigan camping lore that somehow lands on ancient Phoenician and Roman copper trade theories involving Isle Royale. Then Pride Month gets the full treatment, from Dodger Stadium's surprisingly subdued vibe this year to a decade-old story that still haunts one host's father, all wrapped around a classic Norm MacDonald bit connecting Stonewall to the moon landing. The real fireworks come from Spencer Pratt's scorched-earth post-election video, which the crew breaks down as either a brilliant exposure campaign or a path back into the LA mayoral race, tied to ballot harvesting, homeless voting schemes, and Trump's postal service order. As always, GART Deadwood gets a shoutout before the crew wraps with a tangent into Oak Island and moon landing footage.

JD Vance just went on Fox News and dropped hard truths about the heartbreaking scale of government fraud draining your tax dollars. Vice President JD Vance exposes the shocking levels of waste and fraud in programs like Medicaid, SNAP, Medicare, and more. From billions paid to dead people to massive fraud rings, he's making it clear: This stops now. The Trump administration is going after it with an Anti-Fraud Task Force, shutting down fake operations, issuing subpoenas, and warning that officials who knew and did nothing could face prison time. In this must-watch breakdown of the full interview, Vance explains why fraud was so easy to find before — because no one was really looking — and sets the bold goal of making it "harder to find" in two years by actually securing these programs for American citizens first. This is what America First looks like: protecting hardworking taxpayers from fraudsters and bureaucrats who looked the other way. Vance is delivering real results and holding people accountable. We also talked about:  Trump interview with Brett Baier. Rededicate 250 event.  2020 election fraud investigation.  Texas Senate race. If you're tired of your money being wasted on fraud while Americans struggle, this video is for you. LIKE if you support holding fraudsters accountable, drop a COMMENT with your thoughts on government waste, and tell us which program needs the most cleaning up! Welcome to the Joe Concha Show, where the host is at "war with woke" and pulling no punches. Broadcasting straight from a wildly expensive family vacation at Disney World, Joe delivers his signature blend of biting political commentary, sports talk, and classic comedy nostalgia. In this episode, Joe celebrates the New York Mets breaking their agonizing 12-game losing streak before diving deep into global and national politics. Expect fiery takedowns on the IRGC's desperate speedboat tactics in the Strait of Hormuz, the Democrats' hypocritical power-grab in Virginia's redistricting, and Chuck Schumer's sudden push to defund ICE. Joe also exposes the absurdity of $150 New Jersey Transit tickets for the World Cup and the hilarious mental gymnastics of California Democrats grading Gavin Newsom's homelessness crisis. The history of cancel culture in comedy — from Roseanne Barr and Shane Gillis to Joe Rogan and Tony Hinchcliffe — and how it reshaped stand-up, radio, and podcasting.Welcome to the latest episode of Why Are You Laughing?, where we examine the rise and fall of cancel culture in comedy and its lasting impact on the industry. From high-profile controversies involving Daniel Tosh, Roseanne Barr, Owen Benjamin, Shane Gillis, Tony Hinchcliffe, and Joe Rogan, this episode breaks down how careers were altered, opportunities disappeared, and new platforms emerged in response. We explore how cancel culture affected comedians across the spectrum — including moments like Kathy Griffin's backlash and the broader influence of Donald Trump on the comedy landscape. Along the way, we look at how outrage cycles, online harassment, and shifting audience expectations created both consequences and opportunities within the industry.Rather than taking a one-sided view, this episode analyzes how cancel culture evolved, who it impacted most, and whether its influence is fading or simply changing form in modern comedy.TIMESTAMPS0:00 Intro6:32 Daniel Tosh apology15:21 Jim Norton vs. Lindy West25:18 Roseanne fired31:47 Owen Benjamin45:04 Kathy Griffin vs. Donald Trump1:01:29 Shane Gillis fired from SNL1:14:10 The Joe Rogan Effect1:21:50 Tony Hinchcliffe backlash1:46:08 Norm Macdonald vs. Seth SimonsFOR ALL THINGS BLIND MIKEhttp://blindmike.netFOR ALL THINGS CRAIGGERShttp://www.verygoodshow.orgFOR ALL THINGS HACKRIDEhttp://hackridestudios.comFOR ALL THINGS DJ ELECTRA FRYhttp://djelectrafry.com
