If you've ever tried to push away anxiety or depression when they show up, you probably already know: Fighting these complex, difficult emotions usually doesn't work. In fact, our resistance often makes the experience even more challenging. In today's practice, Ed Halliwell offers a guided visualization based on a foundational mindful question: What if you don't try to push this experience away, but instead watch it as it plays out? Ed Halliwell is a mindfulness teacher and writer, based in Sussex and London, UK. He is author of three books: Into The Heart of Mindfulness, How To Live Well By Paying Attention and (as co-author) The Mindful Manifesto and teaches courses and retreats to public groups, in organizations and to individuals, face-to-face and online via Skype. He is also an advisor to The Mindfulness Initiative, which is supporting the Mindfulness All-Party Parliamentary Group to develop mindfulness-based policies for the UK. There are practices that can help us be with thoughts and feelings in a compassionate, non-judgmental way—and this open-hearted approach can often loosen the grip of difficult moments. Maria Marino, Alex Berstein, and Katherine Anne Koury are the Co-founders of Panic Panties, a premium, ready-to-wear underwear brand sold in airports, boutiques, hospitals, Walgreens, and over 5,000 CVS stores nationwide. With over 16 million brand hashtag views on TikTok, Panic Panties has won the Women Business Enterprise National Council's (WBENC) national pitch competition for innovation and has been named Hot Undergarments by Star magazine. Maria, Alex, and Katherine Anne founded the company at Syracuse University after noticing a lack of attractive, on-the-go underwear options. In this episode… Purchasing underwear in a pinch is a common yet overlooked problem for women on the go. Whether after a workout, during travel, or in unexpected situations, traditional retail options fall short, offering unappealing, bulk-packaged choices. How did three best friends turn a shared frustration into an essential brand? Dissatisfied by the lack of on-the-go underwear options on the market, Maria Marino, Alex Bernstein, and Katherine Anne Koury teamed up to create a premium, ready-to-wear underwear line designed for convenience and style. Their innovative approach and strategic retail partnerships with Walgreens and CVS have fueled Panic Panties' rapid growth. The trio promotes their products by producing viral social media content, facilitating community events, and hosting a life-sized panty costume that appeared in high-traffic areas like Times Square and the Vegas Strip. Through social media engagement and a commitment to sustainability, Maria, Alex, and Katherine Anne have penetrated a niche market with an innovative solution. Tune in to the latest episode of the Lead Like a Woman Show as Andrea Heuston chats with Maria Marino, Alex Bernstein, and Katherine Anne Koury, Co-founders of Panic Panties, about how they scaled their brand. Together, they discuss the brand's manufacturing and development process, their future endeavors for Panic Panties, and how they broke into major retail chains.

Panic sells, but context pays. We break down the latest “shutdown showdown” and strip it to the essentials: what actually stops, what keeps going, and how the market usually behaves when politics hog the headlines. From national parks and TSA lines to passport and IRS delays, we map the real-world annoyances you might feel—then zoom out to the history that shows why short shutdowns rarely leave lasting marks on your portfolio. We walk through the counterintuitive market moves you might see—like Treasuries rallying as investors seek safety—while stocks get choppy and volatility jumps. More importantly, we share a practical investor playbook that replaces guesswork with guardrails: keep a cash buffer for near-term needs, stick to your long-term allocation, automate contributions and rebalancing, and resist the urge to trade on political predictions. Washington's timeline is messy and nonlinear; markets usually price the drama before most people can react, which makes knee-jerk decisions costly. If shutdown headlines have you on edge, you'll leave with clarity and a calmer plan. Hold your ground, focus on what you can control, and let your process do the heavy lifting while the news cycle spins. If this helped steady your nerves, share it with someone who's doomscrolling and needs a reset. Subscribe, leave a quick review, and tell us: what headline tempts you to hit the sell button? Here we go again – Pacific Northwest leaders are having a collective meltdown because federal troops might actually make them enforce the law. While Portland burns with 102+ nights of Antifa chaos at federal buildings (complete with guillotines, because that's totally "peaceful protest"), Seattle's Mayor Bruce Harrell is grandstanding about non-existent threats to his city. Remember CHOP/CHAZ? Two black kids murdered while Seattle "took care of itself." Now these same leaders who coddle domestic terrorists are crying about "unconstitutional overreach" when Trump sends 200 National Guard troops to protect federal property that's under siege nightly. The cognitive dissonance is staggering – they claim Portland "has it under control" while ICE agents dodge firebombs and federal buildings get vandalized into oblivion. Meanwhile, taxpayers fund this circus as businesses flee and crime skyrockets. Is anyone surprised that cities refusing to enforce basic laws are now shocked when federal authorities step in? What did they expect when they let anarchists run wild for years? Like, subscribe, and let me know in the comments – do you think these mayors are genuinely this delusional, or is this just election-year theater?

One of the bestselling nonfiction books of the moment is a memoir about a wealthy and successful woman dealing with memories of horrific sexual assault by her teacher when she was in middle school. The only problem: her memories were "recovered" in therapy with the use of hallucinogens. Meaning they probably aren't real. And the author just so happens to have a stake in a company that is trying to get hallucinogens approved by the FDA for use in therapy to treat PTSD. Jessa and Nico talk about how the recovered memories craze of the 1980s led to our last great Satanic Panic, why everyone has PTSD now, and why women's media loves wishywashy fake memoirs about sexual assault. To connect with others, you have to get out of your own head.Whether presenting to millions on live television or talking to just one person, Dan Harris knows that the quality of every interaction depends on the presence you bring to it.Harris is a former national news anchor for ABC News and is now the host of the 10% Happier podcast and author of 10% Happier and Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics. As he knows from experience, there's power in “Waking up to something fundamental, that the mind is out of control, and you don't want to be owned by it.” How do we break the pattern of being controlled by our thoughts? Mindfulness and self-awareness, he says, put “distance” between us and our “thoughts and urges and emotions,” enabling us to connect with ourselves and others with greater consciousness and clarity. In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, Harris and host Matt Abrahams discuss how mindfulness can transform our communication, sharing strategies for deeper listening, responding versus reacting, and reflecting what others say back to them. “Relationships are the most important aspect of your happiness,” Harris says. The quality of those connections goes up when “you're “less stuck in your own head.”Episode Reference Links:Dan HarrisDan's Books: 10% Happier / Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics Ep.179 Finding Positive in Negative Emotions: Communication, Happiness & Wellbeing Ep.180 Unlocking Your Future Self: Communication, Happiness & Wellbeing Ep.181 Why Happiness is a Direction, Not a Destination: Communication, Happiness & Wellbeing Ep.182 Stop Chasing Time and Start Owning It: Communication, Happiness & Wellbeing Connect:Premium Signup >>>> Think Fast Talk Smart PremiumEmail Questions & Feedback >>> hello@fastersmarter.ioEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedInChapters:(00:00) - Introduction (01:51) - On-Air Panic Attack (02:59) - Managing Communication Anxiety (04:01) - Nervousness Before Live Audiences (05:48) - Meditation Misconceptions (09:36) - Responding vs. Reacting (12:07) - Mindfulness & Productivity (15:11) - Lessons from Interviewing (17:19) - The Final Three Question (25:14) - Conclusion ********Thank you to our sponsors. Gavin Wilde, Nonresident Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, adjunct lecturer at Johns Hopkins University, and author of the recent paper, “Pyrite or Panic? Deepfakes, Knowledge and the Institutional Backstop,” joins Lawfare's Justin Sherman to discuss worries about deepfakes and their impact on information and society, the history of audiovisual media and what we can learn from previous evolutions in audiovisual technologies, and the role that fakery has played over the centuries in said media. They also discuss the social media and political context surrounding deepfake evolutions circa 2015; what happened, or not, with deepfakes in elections around the globe in 2024; and how institutions, policy, and law might pursue a less technology-centric approach to deepfakes and their information impacts. To receive ad-free podcasts, become a Lawfare Material Supporter at www.patreon.com/lawfare. In October of 1991, a young mother in San Diego thought she was just surviving the aftermath of a divorce, raising her infant daughter, and working long hours. But what happened in her home that month became one of the most chilling true haunted house stories you'll ever hear. It began with a sound — moaning in the night — and the sight of a phantom arm, clothed in a jacket sleeve yet transparent. Her baby cried from a room turned ice cold, though it was a warm California night. That was only the beginning. The next night brought terror. Frozen in bed, unable to move, she felt a crushing weight on her chest. Panic rose until a massive glowing orb ripped itself off her body, vibrating and fluttering before shooting through mirrored closet doors and vanishing into the night like a UFO. At 3:00 AM, two nights in a row, she fought back — screaming, praying, demanding, “God's my Savior, you cannot have me or my daughter.” Her child cried again in the freezing nursery, though her sitter dismissed her fears. Even her grandfather — a no-nonsense Navy engineer and skeptic — began experiencing strange phenomena: lights crawling up walls and the apparition of a man in a cap silently standing by his chair. Was it sleep paralysis, a demonic attack, or something darker tied to the home's energy? Whatever it was, it left scars of fear, faith, and survival. #TrueGhostStory #HauntedHouse #RealHauntings #DemonicEncounter #SanDiegoHaunting #RealGhostStoriesOnline #ParanormalStories #3AMHaunting #SleepParalysisOrSpirit #TheGraveTalks Love real ghost stories?
