Most graphic designers are told to niche down, play it safe, and follow the damn rules. Pennybridge did the opposite—and built a global, wildly successful studio from a surf town outside Australia's big cities. This isn't your typical design story. In this episode of The Angry Designer Podcast, we sit down with the unapologetically raw, fiercely independent founders of Pennybridge—a creative powerhouse known for high-energy branding, punk rock vibes, and logos that landed them clients like Porsche, Wu-Tang, and Red Bull. But behind the bold visuals and Blink-182 posters is a brutally smart business strategy that every designer needs to hear.We dive deep into:• Why “niching down” is overrated—and how to stand out without selling out• How Pennybridge built a design studio around lifestyle, values, and vibe• The real reason clients trust them with million-dollar brands—and why most designers never get that chanceBy the end of this episode, you'll rethink what it means to run a design studio, how to attract dream clients without compromise, and why your edge is your advantage.Stay Angry our Friends –––––––––––Join Anger Management for Designers Newsletter at https://tinyurl.com/mr4bb4j3Want to see more?

In this episode, Jim breaks down something we've all lost touch with: leisure—not vacations, not performative “self-care,” but the daily, essential ability to check out and truly recharge. From the illusion of optimized rest to the guilt we carry when we're not being productive, Jim explores why doing nothing might be the most human thing you can do today. If you're burnt out, stuck in hustle mode, or just can't remember the last time you lost track of time, this one's for you. What You'll Learn:Why most of us have forgotten how to relax—and how that's hurting usThe difference between looking relaxed and actually being at restHow the wellness industry has co-opted leisure and turned it into another jobReal-life examples of “micro-leisure” that require no agenda, no outcomes, and no trackingWhy true leisure is the antidote to burnout, decision fatigue, and societal edgeThe radical idea that doing nothing… might be exactly what you needQuotable Moments:“Rest has become another job. Even our candles come with to-do lists.”“We took hustle culture, put yoga pants on it, and called it self-care.”“If your rest has a reason, it's not rest. It's just disguised ambition.”“Leisure isn't lazy. It's human.”Challenge to Listeners:Find 15 minutes today. No phone. No goals. No productivity hack. Just exist. And if that feels weird… that's probably a sign you need it.Mentioned in This Episode:Listening to full albums (like Led Zeppelin or Wu-Tang) start to finishSitting in silence, people-watching, or browsing a bookstore with no planThe difference between personal development and disguised productivityPhilosophical reflections on meaning and presenceSubscribe, Share & Review:If you enjoyed this episode, please share it with someone who needs a reminder that it's okay to do nothing—and don't forget to leave a review wherever you listen.

Like I mentioned last episode, I was lucky enough to fondle around at the record store and find some nasty singles last week. Found a few Outkast jams as well as 50 Cent In Da Club as a single release. That prompted Witwickawon The Don to subsequently blast a full scale hip hop episode. Trying to cover as many bases as I can, starting with a 1994 pressing of Wu Tang, all the way to a recent Fred Again remix of the Lil Baby Freestyle. How wicked hot is that. Next week I have a feeling I'll put together a rock-heavy episode. I've been wanting to go look for the 45 of Hell Is For Children by Pat Benatar hahaha leave me alone. As always, check out www.coffeestainclothing.com and see what is currently available in the store. Thank you for being hereYour Cheesy Host with the Most,Witwickawon The Don
It's no secret that hip hop has suffered in recent years. The culture has definitely come a long way but I think it's safe to say that we are in the valley of rhyme right now. We are no where near the peaks that we saw through the 80's, 90's up to the early 2000's.The younger generation has been inundated with mumble rap, grillz and nonsensical lyricism. I've been waiting for the day that some of the older more established wordsmiths make them selves known again. Finally we have that. With new album drops from the likes of Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre with Missionary, the much anticipated follow up to Doggy Style. Redman with his release of Muddy Waters Too and now Wutang going on a final world tour. The teachers have taken control of the class and it's back in session, forcing the culture to take notice.Hip Hop is coming back in a heavy way and I only hope that this younger generation is taking notes. The OG's of rap are putting their stamp on the game again in a big way and it's time for the culture now to recognize what made it so prevalent.Hip Hop is back baby!Hope you enjoy the sesh!Subscribe and visit Tots420.com#hiphop #90shiphop #podcast #comedy #comedypodcast #thoughtsoffthestem

We live in the era of AI. The technologies many of us saw for the first time in sci-fi movies are now the technological experiments that will define humanity for generations to come. In some ways, that's an exciting concept. How does nature versus nurture apply to machine learning and what exactly are the boundaries we will set to protect us? Human beings are historically bad at implementing guard rails with our new toys. What happens when they are in the hands of a madman? It's something that has been preoccupying my brain recently and was my own filter reading the aptly named We're Taking Everyone Down With Us, a new six issue spy revenge thriller, sci-fi mystery mini-series from Image Comics and I've got just the person to help me digest its complexities first time show guest Matthew Rosenberg. I've been meaning to catch up with Matthew for some time now as someone who's spent as much time in the music business as I have. We get into how he got GG Allin on the loudspeakers at Comics Pro (truly an amazing accomplishment,) take a moment to express a shared love of the 90s comics classic SCUD The Disposable Assassin, break down the trauma of growing up latchkey kids and how that experience shaped the story, and what's exactly with using Starfish as a term of endearment, that's a mad scientist for you. It's a fun chat. Wu Tang is for the children! We're Taking Everyone Down With Us hits shelves on March 25th. From the publisher MINISERIES PREMIERE THE EXPLOSIVE DOUBLE-SIZED FIRST ISSUE! After her mad-scientist father is killed by the world's greatest spy, 13-year-old Annalise is left all alone in the world. Sort of. Her dead dad's robot bodyguard is following her around for some reason. Now Annalise has a choice: try to lead a normal life for the first time ever…or seek revenge and maybe overthrow the world order in the process. Image Comics proudly presents a journey of regret and retribution, super spies and pseudoscience, growing up and global domination from brilliant artist STEFANO LANDINI (Prodigy, Hellblazer) and okay writer MATTHEW ROSENBERG (WHAT'S THE FURTHEST PLACE FROM HERE?, Uncanny X-Men). Jorma Starratt grew up in Athens, GA, spending his early years immersed in the vibrant music scene at the legendary 40 Watt Club by the age of 10. His father, Ken Starratt, was a member of the iconic band The Squalls. It was through these experiences Jorma was on the cusp of something truly groundbreaking. Athens was producing bands such as R.E.M, The B'52's, Pylon, Elf Power, Of Montreal, Five Eight, Wide Spread Panic, Drive by Truckers and so many more. Once he finished high school, it was inevitable he would take his upbringing straight into the music scene He put together the band Prozak, which became very popular and reached impressive heights. Unfortunately, some of the band members chose different paths, and the band eventually dissolved. As the old adage says, when one door closes, one door opens. Into that door comes an exciting new direction for Jorma. Flag pole writes, "In the early aughts, outsiders viewed the Classic City as the home of redneck rap, thanks to Bubba Sparxxx scoring a 2001 MTV hit with “Ugly.” In 2003, Herb and Skills set the record straight. Under the direction of producers Jorma Starratt and Hano Leathers, rappers Bird, Ishues, Jawz of Life, Fort Knox and more laid down stone-cold classics with a Wu-Tang sword style. For proof, look no further than Ishues' razor-sharp verses on “The Saga Continues.” It's forgotten history now, but press play on Spotify and the lyrical depth, full-bodied production and cinematic samples weave together a disarmingly profound time capsule from a sophisticated era of Southern hip hop.Jorma talks to me about these exciting days, going out to L.A. and how he wishes he could go back to some of those times again. Who knows......maybe he will. What makes New Orleans funk hit so different? In this episode, we dive into the swampy funk of The Meters, the iconic quartet that's left its mark on everything from Wu-Tang to Whitney Houston and beyond. We break down Leo Nocentelli's chicken-scratch guitar, Art Neville's genius riff comping, Zigaboo's “direct assault” on the high hat, and the thumping George Porter Jr. bass lines that defined their unique sound. And we explore how NOLA production legend Allen Toussaint provided the perfect roux to cook up The Meters' musical gumbo — simple yet complex, country yet urban, and 100% groovin'! Tune in for stories of Adam's funky DVD menu discoveries, Peter's Snug Harbor gig with Meters' royalty, and how the culture of the crescent city produced what may be the greatest funk band of all time.Spotify Playlist - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1BqPtMqKaAiYlLvzplNDwOTry OS Membership today! → https://osjazz.link/aboutAll about YHIhttps://lnk.to/youllhearitYB
