This week’s adventure is the second of our two-part Year in Review! Our host, Taylor Roark, walks through the last 24 episodes and offers lessons learnt on starting, building and maintaining this podcast show. A lot of podcasts have episodes that are dated and mainly relevant to the time and day they were recorded. Not so with The Adventures of Self! These conversations were crafted to be timeless insights into the adventures of self-discovery and self-expression. Sometimes, it can feel overwhelming or challenging to know where to start and which show or shows will be relevant to you (the Listener). That’s why we’ve created this Year-End Review to outline each of the episodes so you can decide which show (or guest) speaks to you and your situation. Taylor breaks the review in 6-episode blocks lifting the lid in between the episode reviews for an overview of the good, the bad and the authentic insights that made this first year possible! This week's adventure is taken in the company of Shaun “SF” Banks, the creator of Camp Warrior King which helps thousands of youths in the metro Atlanta area gain exposure to activities they would not normally have. He has been working in youth and personal development for nearly 15 years and is the founder of the You Can Have It All youth conference and magazine, he is the author of three books, ‘Persevere, Overcome, Win’, ‘Raising Extraordinary Kids’ and ‘Be Unstoppable Living Life’. Shaun and Taylor talk about what it means to start your own business, how to find what you’re passionate about and turn that into a life that you choose for yourself and how to help kids with things like influence, exposure and confidence. KEY TAKEAWAYS I never had a passion to work with youth at all, I wanted to work in business. But I noticed there was such a big need for youth to be developed. You always think there’s all these programmes to help kids but there wasn’t in the 2000s, so I thought maybe there’s a way to do both, to be able to make a good living and help people in the process. My Aunt and Cousin were murdered in a domestic violence situation, and I always wanted to do something in their honour. 10 years after they were murdered, I set up the I AM Defense Institute in their honour. That led me to all the other businesses, initiatives and books, so I’ve been busy! A lot of times kids won’t want to try something new because they’re afraid. What usually happens is they try it, realise it’s great and they’re going to have a good time. Sometimes you get that from the parents, because they haven’t tried the activity (horse riding, spelunking, shooting) so we ask the parents to come with us and participate which builds up a community and promotes quality time to spend with their kids. Society says that you should have a six pack and muscles, but if you’re not that guy in your head and you go to the beach you wear layers because you’re uncomfortable in your own skin. But you look down the beach to a guy that’s as big as a whale with his shirt off, laid back and having a ball! He’s enjoying life because he could care less about what society thinks he should look like. That guy is being unstoppable living life. Take your shirt off and you’ll notice no one really cares and isn’t going to judge you because they’re worried about themselves. I’ve used anger to give me the fuel to write one more paragraph, cut one more page or analyse something else. There are ways to channel it, to give you a push. But I don’t know if that's always the best way. To build something while being excited is much better, especially to sustain in the long-term. BEST MOMENTS ‘A couple of years after starting my first business I had my first child and that was a life-changing experience for me.’ ‘The ultimate motivation is happiness. It means different things to different people, but it’s universal.’ ‘When a child understands the working of a firearm they’re less likely to be curious about it and hurt themselves or someone else.’ ‘Success is relative. So you should determine what it means to you, you pick the elements you want to go after and live those things. That’s being unstoppable living life.’ ‘Don’t dwell on things people did wrong to you, they probably don’t remember, they’ve moved on, you haven’t.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Shaun “SF” Banks grew up with a single mother who cleaned houses and buildings for some of the most wealthy and elite people in Seattle, WA. He was instilled with a strong work ethic to pursue big dreams and help others. One night, my his was rocked by a nightmare when his uncle murdered his aunt and cousin in a domestic violence dispute. SF’s close-knit family was devastated and he vowed to do something in their honor when he became an adult. In 2007, SF opened the I AM Defense institute against his profound disinterest in working with youth. I AM Defense shows women and children how to protect themselves from attackers. Since that time, he has committed his life to the personal development of youth. SF is the creator of Camp Warrior King, which helps thousands of youth in the metro Atlanta area gain exposure to amazingly-fun activities. He is also the founder of "You Can Have IT ALL!" Youth conferences. This conference did its first international event in Uganda, East Africa before the COVID pandemic hit. He has recently launched "You Can Have It ALL!" Youth motivational Development Magazine. The only motivational magazine for kids of its kind in the world. SF is the developer creator of Team HoTT SAWCE. THS are cartoon characters that teach children how to believe in themselves using fundamental personal development principles using the Team HoTT SAWCE Success Stacks, which are words and phrases kids should learn to increase their self-efficacy. SF has written 3 books: ‘Persevere Overcome Win’, ‘Raising Extraordinary Kids’, and ‘Be Unstoppable Living Life’. A portion of all proceeds from his businesses maintains the "You Can Have IT All!" orphanage in Bombo, Uganda, where it currently supports over 30 children with shelter, food, and school supplies. https://www.campwarriorking.com/ https://www.ychiamag.com/ ABOUT THE HOST Taylor Roark is the founder of Galliant Trainings, which guides and facilitates individuals and organisations in Creative Purpose. This week's adventure is taken in the company of William Branum, a former US Navy SEAL with over 25 years of military service. As with many war veterans, William has suffered from numerous physical injuries and psychological symptoms that negatively impacted his quality of life and wellbeing. He founded the Naked Warrior Recovery company to assist veteran s and first responders who also experience problems with anxiety and joint pain and provide cannabinoid solutions. On the show William talks about Five SEAL Secrets, a short book that he’s written that allows people to learn to think like a Navy SEAL. KEY TAKEAWAYS I was having a hard time getting on with life and I discovered CBD as a modality to help me turn off some of the noise in my brain rather than drinking myself to sleep at night. As I went down this road of self-discovery I found a lot of baggage, like armour, and I had to take it and my ego off and set it aside, get naked and be more vulnerable. Hell week, the most famous week in military training: five and a half days of no sleep, you’re cold, wet and miserable the whole time. But there’s one thing that’s constant: They’re going to feed you four times a day, no matter what’s going on or how much it sucks you just have to get to that next meal. In life, if you’re thinking about quitting you just have to break things up into small, bitesize, attainable pieces and all you have to do is get through each piece to the next piece. It may still not be easy, but as long as you have a plan and you begin planning and executing that plan you’ll achieve it. NAKED – Never quit, Accept failure, Kill mediocrity, Expose your fears, Do the work. Competing doesn’t mean going out and fighting people, you can compete in kindness, gratitude, giving and then compete against your own ego that makes you afraid to smile and say “hi” to someone in the street. Make that a goal every day. There are leaders who I know don’t know how to do something but are afraid to show weakness, and I’ve been there. But, once I became brave enough to say “hey, I don’t know how to do that, what do you think?” I also figured out some more strategic ways to not look like an idiot if I didn’t know something, I might ask “How would you attack this goal? I really value your input” then you’re talking from a leadership aspect and you’ve allowed the other party ownership. BEST MOMENTS ‘If you don’t take care of yourself no one else is going to.’ ‘Green Berets wanna be Navy SEALs!’ ‘Failure is a great teacher. If you’re not failing, you’re not trying.’ ‘Innovations that are making our lives easier are making us more mediocre.’ ‘Fear is a vampire that lives in a deep, dark place in your brain sucking the life out of you and you kill it by exposing it to the light.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST A former US Navy SEAL with 26 years of service, William Branum is the founder of NW Recovery. At an early age William knew he wanted to be part of a team that would push him beyond whatever limits he thought he had and still enjoy the outdoors and all it had to offer. He charged forward and became an Eagle Scout and joined the Navy immediately after graduating High School. After graduating from SEAL training, he was stationed in Virginia Beach, VA then San Diego, CA, and finally Oahu, HI where he served on multiple SEAL Teams, taught SEAL Sniper School, and deployed around the globe. As with too many veterans, William suffered from numerous physical injuries and psychological symptoms that negatively impacted his well-being and quality of life. Migraines, severe anxiety, chronic pains, difficulty focusing, difficulty sleeping/falling asleep, and depression are some of the symptoms he would struggle with on a daily basis. He tried many prescription medications to help and eventually started to “self-medicate” with alcohol to help with pain and sleep issues. During his last few years of military service William started hearing more about the promising benefits of cannabinoids like CBD. Ultimately, he chose to wait until his retirement from the military before exploring this new world of plant-based benefits to help aid in his physical and psychological recovery. Determined to maintain his Top Secret Security clearance after the military, he sought THC free options of CBD. Since his discovery of CBD, William has reduced anxiety, improved sleep, less joint pain and an overall improved quality of life. Today William is focused on sharing the recovery benefits he has experienced through premium quality (THC Free) CBD in hopes that other Veterans and First Responders can also experience their own recovery. This week's adventure is taken in the company of Jeff Fetty, one of the most interesting, varied and eclectic men Taylor has ever know and spent time with. Jeff is an inspiration to Taylor to be quirky, outlandish and to live by one’s heart. Jeff has been a blacksmith for 30-40 years and has worked for huge clients including Tom Clancy, The Whitehouse and Yves Saint Laurent. As well as this he is a photographer, a traveller and he has an irreverent reverence for being alive on this planet right now. KEY TAKEAWAYS Blacksmithing found me: As soon as I saw someone hammer a hot piece of metal and transform it into something that’s going to last forever, I was hooked. This was my then girlfriend’s – now wife’s – father and I started spending more time with him when picking her up for dates! Some of the great things about living in a rural community are it’s so gratifying to know what you’re eating, to mill the lumber and dry it myself, build our own stone walls from rocks from the river. The results are so much better than you can buy. And it’s better than going to the gym! One of the reasons I became a better photographer is that a lot of people in my community will never be able to travel in the way I’ve been lucky to. So, I became a photographer was to document my travels so I could show people back home. Also, it makes you see the world in a different way and be more appreciative of what you see in the world. I got my hand caught in a hydraulic press and almost lost three fingers. I sit my little finger in half – the long way. I was afraid that my career was going to be impacted and as soon as I looked at my hand I saw a photograph, so I had one of my assistants bring my camera to the hospital and I documented the hand before and after, with every stitch that went in. I asked the surgeon to move the light so I could photograph properly. It served as a warning to the blacksmith community, I’m an experienced guy and this can still happen. I know a lot of blacksmiths who have those photos attached to their machines to this day. My son and I were really interested to check out a holly roller service. We were told we were allowed to document it on video after proving we weren’t with the press. I’ve been to a lot of wild parties, but I’d never seen anything on this magnitude. It was a tiny, rickety wooden church on the edge of a cliff, the church band were incredible and the place was rocking and shaking. They had boxes with Copperheads and Rattlesnakes which they set lose, one guy spun himself into intoxication dancing to the music. After three hours of that service we looked at each other and asked ourselves if it had really happened. Not too many people get to experience that. BEST MOMENTS ‘I always fantasied about living hundreds of years in the past making tools in my community. I love going to rural areas where the blacksmith is still a focal part of the community.’ ‘You’re referring to my smashed hand? It was not a great morning. Talk about feeling silly!’ ‘If you’re going to do something, do it right. Even if it’s a banana peel throwing contest.’ ‘I’ve got a lot of mileage out of Mr Rattlesnake.’ ‘I love making furniture, but I also love making large-scale sculptures, like the 20-foot tulips I’m making for the local hospital.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Working at his forge in Spencer, West Virginia, artist-blacksmith Jeff Fetty has been forging for nearly 40years, coaxing hard, cold iron into delicately wrought objects. Fetty's works abound with flowing organic forms and amazingly accurate renderings that are gently entwined with vines and flowers in such a subtle way that the casual observer forgets it's actually steel. For Fetty the appeal of working with iron lies in the traditional role of blacksmiths and the permanence of their work. Historically, blacksmiths contributed to the well-being of their neighbors by creating the tools that sustained the community. Their implements and art served and gave pleasure to many generations. Fetty is thankful that he is able to share his work with a broad range of viewers. His hope is that his art contributes to their well-being. Fetty has built a global reputation, having created metalwork for writer Tom Clancy, the Clinton White House, fashion designer Yves St. Laurent and the Globe Theatre in London. His affinity for art nouveau and his studio's natural setting led Fetty to the floral themes prevalent in his work. http://www.jefffetty.com/ ABOUT THE HOST Taylor Roark is the founder of Galliant Trainings, which guides and facilitates individuals and organisations in Creative Purpose. This week's adventure is taken in the company of Reverend Jim Lewis who has served in the clergy of the Episcopal Church for over 50 years. Before joining the church Jim was an infantry officer in the US Marine Corps. His career over the last 50-60 years has taken him from war to God and everything in between. Jim discusses his storied career as an activist and what it means to have faith and integrity on the world today. KEY TAKEAWAYS I grew up in the church and had positive and interesting experiences in the church. Coming into ordained ministry was in my heart and mind even before signing up for the Marine Corps, it was clear to me that’s what I should be doing. I needed to connect the pastoral ministry has to be connected to what I call the prophetic ministry – dealing with and speaking up for the social and systemic issues right outside the door of your church in your community. We were right in the middle of the ‘text-book wars’ where the right wing and the Ku Klux Klan attempted to take away school text-books that were extolling multi-racial, multi-cultural values. Me, my wife and my children had to stand up to some very violent protests, I had to move out of my house a couple of times, my life was threatened, my family was protected by police. This was my first experience with right wing religion and politics wedding and I learned a lot quickly, and I see it very much active now. I joined the Marine Corps in the 1960s to protect the country from Communism and be a patriotic American. I was sent to South-East Asia (Laos and Cambodia, not Vietnam) in what’s now called the Secret War that was full of lies, just like we’ve been lied to about Afghanistan and Iraq. People say we’ve got enough problems in our community here, how can we be interested in foreign wars? You’ll get interested quickly if they start coming for your sons, daughters, husbands to go fight in those wars. Do we have to wait for that? BEST MOMENTS ‘The homeless have not missed a free meal at my church every day, since we started serving them in 1974-5. The problem is the number of people living on the street has only got larger and larger.’ ‘There was opposition from businesses who didn’t want these people in their neighbourhood, but they were already living on the street in the neighbourhood.’ ‘Community is a social construct that we create.’ ‘The amount of money spent of these wars and the amount of deaths has to be engaged by the faith community.’ ‘Step up to the plate, do what you have to do, and try and be faithful – not even right. There’s never anything done by one person.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST For more than 50 years, Rev. Jim Lewis has been addressing the social issues of the local communities he has served as an Episcopal priest. He has organized parishes and communities in Maryland, West Virginia, Michigan, North Carolina, and Delaware to address health care for women, child care, AIDS, prison and criminal justice issues, capital punishment, war, gay issues, housing, and racial issues. Rev. Lewis served as an infantry officer in the U.S. Marine Corps before joining the clergy and has been active in war and peace issues ever since. His travels on peace missions have taken him to Cuba, Central America, Libya, Jordan, Iraq, and Israel/Palestine. He has practiced civil disobedience around coal mine issues, U.S. involvement in war in Central America and Iraq, and poultry labor issues. Active in anti-death penalty work, Rev. Lewis was one of the founders of People of Faith Against the Death Penalty in North Carolina. He received the West Virginia Governor's Martin Luther King Jr. “Living the Dream” award in 1991 and was honored in Delaware by Pacem in Terris in October, 2001, as “A Peacemaker Among Us.” He holds an honorary doctorate from the Virginia Theological Seminary. Lewis has been a regular contributor to a number of newspapers and has authored several books, including, West Virginia Pilgrim (Seabury Press), The Gulf War: The Churches & Peacemaking (North Carolina Council of Churches). He contributed to Strike Terror No More: Theology, Ethics, and the New War (Chalice Press). He authored a chapter, “Grasshopper Power,” in the recently published book, Workers' Rights as Human Rights (Cornell Press) which focuses on workplace safety and the role of community organization in bringing about change in the food production system. This milestone, fiftieth adventure is taken in the company of Taylor’s friend and mentor In creative orientation, William Whitecloud, the international bestselling author of three books including his latest, ‘The Secrets of Natural Success’, which gives you the secrets to succeed with your natural innate talents, ability and genius. The pair have a hero’s journey of a conversation about adventure, self-discovery, self-expression and how to create your own destiny, your own life using alchemical principles and creating as an orientation. KEY TAKEAWAYS There is some kind of obvious need to physically go further than what you know. We’d never have evolved from the valley we were in of we weren’t curious. Technologically, geographically and biologically – how we’re grown and how strong we are – we’ve developed that through adventure, curiosity and exploration. Every human being has something in common, we’re all born on the wrong track in life. By that I mean we come into life, have experiences and figure out what it is, we also have negative experiences and learn to avoid them. Those ideas will cause us to take on an idea of who we should be, to protect ourselves, but that’s not in line with who we really are. We get our need of danger, excitement and risk from jumping out of an aeroplane, watching a horror movie. It’s quite easy to get your thrills vicariously in this modern world. You can get a great sense of satisfaction from following a sports team, when they lose, you’re upset but when they win, you’re the hero despite not ever playing for them. The hero’s journey: A child is born of a powerful lineage and get lost/hidden from who they are, living a mediocre life until they are restored to live out their greatness. We’re not meant to stay on the wrong track in life. But most people don’t live out their journey, most are living out their shadow life, accommodating their ego. Often the painful, torturous experiences of initiations, which look horrible and cruel. But, whatever happens was to drive in the teaching of the group, so you never forget the teaching. BEST MOMENTS ‘I still think the biggest adventure is the adventure of oneself.’ ‘Men would rather go to war, kill or be killed, than face what is dysfunctional or limited about themselves.’ ‘The refusal of the call is the conditional nature of taking on the adventure. You’re not in control of the circumstances.’ ‘You need to understand the nature of what you’re going through to better go through it.’ ‘If you want to make people unhappy and unsuccessful in life, just give them a list of people they should look up to and ways they should be.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST William Whitecloud was born in a small African country called eSwatini, where his parents were carving a 35,000 acre sugar and citrus estate out of virgin bushland. Growing up in such a wild and remote part of the world was to influence his character and personality in many ways, but the most enduring effect that time had on him came from being immersed in the supernatural worldview of the tribes people around them. William seemed to live in an enchanted world where a host of entities and elemental forces wrestled each other for control over the fate of every living thing. He says: Life for me was an endless romp in the Garden of Eden, until I was eight years old, when I was packed off to a succession of Christian orientated boarding schools in the colonial education system. It was forcefully impressed on me that my free spirited nature and heathen superstitions were of no value to the socio-economic machine I was being conditioned to fit into. Ten years later I left school, cured of my innocence and wonder, and thoroughly convinced I had no choice but to find my place within the rational order of Western civilization. But my heart was never in it. I was a conscript, not a volunteer. His first real job was working for a South African commodity trading company, where his indoctrination into the perception of capital as the prime mover behind life was sealed. In 1983, he immigrated to Australia and switched from trading physical commodities to speculating on global financial money markets. Ironically, his trading mentor in Australia was a highly successful analyst and trader given to using profoundly esoteric methods for predicting market movements. Having his eyes opened to the supernatural phenomena that held sway over these giant markets re-ignited his childhood fascination of hidden forces at play in the world. Yet this window into the mystical nature of the universe did nothing to free William from his disillusionment with an existence that seemed designed solely to fulfill societal expectations. In quick succession he developed substance abuse problems, lost all his money, his marriage broke down, and he was diagnosed with a supposedly incurable life threatening illness. With his life at rock bottom, his attention turned from merely observing phenomenon at work outside of himself to seeking ways in which he could practically apply magic to create what he truly wanted: a life rich in health, wealth, love and creative expression. This search brought William into contact with the alchemical principles of Hermetic Philosophy and the ideas of Robert Fritz, founder of Technologies For Creating. Both modalities pointed to the premise that we subconsciously create our own reality and that there is a way in which we can direct the subconscious mind to create the reality we choose. As he delved into these superbly effective principles for reconnecting with and manifesting what is truly important to the human spirit, he made the most startling discovery: that the sad story I just told you about myself was just that – a story. It all really did happen, but it was simply the unfolding of a script he himself had written. Thankfully, this was not the sum total of his revelation. He also discovered that he could make up a new story, one that reflected his true potential. Watching every area of his life rapidly healing and prospering, as he applied his new understanding, confirmed to him what he had believed as a child. Life is magic. In 1996, inspired by the momentum of my own self-transformation, William founded a program called Living From Greatness, a personalized course dedicated to empowering participants in discovering and living their authentic nature and potential. While continuing to be involved in the LFG program, and more lately the Natural Success project, he has worked one-to-one with thousands of people, coaching them in bringing their dreams into reality. His twenty five-year search to discern the essence of what it takes for people to connect with and live effortlessly from their creative spirit forms the basis of his three books, The Magician’s Way, The Last Shaman and Secrets of Natural Success. He now live in Santa Monica, California, where he devotes hus time to writing and developing movies, enjoying his family and letting life unfold by magic. https://naturalsuccessacademy.com/ Instagram: @williamwhitecloud ABOUT THE HOST Taylor Roark is the founder of Galliant Trainings, which guides and facilitates individuals and organisations in Creative Purpose. DESCRIPTION This week's adventure is taken in the company of Benedict Corkery, a podcaster whose life and circumstances are so familiar to Taylor it’s like having a conversation with a younger version of himself. Along with his brother and a friend, he is the founder of the Protagonist Podcast which explores how to become the hero in your own story. Ben is passionate about alternative education and in this conversation he and Taylor talk about ‘life as metaphor’, ‘the root of symbolism’ and how our lives continue to unfold even with these conversations. He’s a founding member of The Society for a Wandering Mind noting the words of Tolkein, who said: “Not all those who wander are lost”. KEY TAKEAWAYS We’ve not totally lost symbolism in today’s stories, but I think it’s something that’s more easily identifiable in older stories. I think we need to look back sometimes as it can be helpful and meaningful for us. There was a point where I was pretty down and anxious in my early 20s and wasn’t getting a whole lot done, getting out much or even thinking clearly to make plans. But, deciding to go for a walk in the morning when you wake up is a very simple thing you can do and make happen and can ground you in a very small way. A lot of people don’t think of literature as a practical degree, but that’s the way I approached it. I wasn’t interested in writing techniques at the time, I was interested in myths and narratives and saw them as tools that I could apply to life. I realised that I wasn’t looking to land a secure job as a teacher, I wanted to focus on my side-interests. I wanted to teach kids to trust themselves and pursue their interests and to build their lives, but I felt like a fake because I wasn’t living that truth. As I’ve been working on stuff and trying to make sense of it myself, there’s a pattern of stages of what people go through, a healing, realising and confronting that we’re not on the path we want to be on, this leads into cultivation where we work out what our talents are, which then leads to a building stage where we use our creativity and final to sharing where we build a relationship or community which leads you back to the healing process again. BEST MOMENTS ‘Stories are a way of making sense of things and contextualising ourselves within our own story.’ ‘The answer is in the walking.’ ‘Narratives, metanarratives and archetypes are real and are powerful ways of conceptualising our world, our personal situation, where we’ve come from and where we’re headed.’ ‘Stories can also be scary and uncertain.’ ‘You almost don’t get a choice, you’re pulled to share your creative journey and your story with others. It becomes a duty.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram Facebook ABOUT THE GUEST Ben Corkery is a writer, podcaster, and enjoys helping people get unstuck. He thinks we need more creativity in the world and believes lifestyle changes are the way to go. He used lifestyle changes to drastically improve hi mental health and started leaning more into his creativity. He is passionate about this process and it is his mission to share it with others. We all get stuck, we all end up in dead ends, but it’s what you do next that matters. Ben spent $20K to become a formal teacher only to discover how messed up conventional education is. He got really depressed only to find that his doctor couldn't help him. He didn't fit into a career so he started building his own. Ben loves talking about topics such as healing with food and lifestyle: specifically low carb, ketogenic, and carnivore diets, side hustles, alternative education, creativity, and self-improvement. This week's adventure is taken in the company of Amy Sinha, who has been a singer almost since the day she was born and went through a lot of difficulty with medical conditions and being quite small and all the things that come along with the confidence of being out front and being a jazz singer. She released an album of self-composed songs in 2012 and has produced songs in the pop/country genre as well as jazz, works with charities, works as a voice over artist. Her mantra is ‘the impossible is always possible.' KEY TAKEAWAYS If you’re really serious about something and you really want it to happen, you have to keep pushing, and crafting, and moulding what you want and not just putting your thoughts out there but making people aware of who you are. If nobody knows who you are nobody’s going to come to you I wrote poetry but I never thought I could write my own songs, people would write me songs to sing – which is what jazz singers do – but there was something about that that didn’t sit well with me, so I decided to sit down at the piano and wite something and it was a surprise that I came up with a song, so I wrote and recorded an album! The music industry is very male dominated and it was hard work and I spent a lot of my 20s and 30s depressed, it wasn’t the best environment to be in and I just wanted to get out of the industry, which is why I started in voice over. The hardest thing is to get over your own limiting belief, you have to recognise it and say “it’s OK, it’s going to be hard, but I’ll take it one day at a time and hopefully by the end of it I’ll get further than where I was”. If you go through something you don’t always appreciate it, whereas others from an outside perspective say “wow, that’s amazing what you’ve done and achieved.” You don’t always see the beauty and enormity of something you’re doing, especially on creative things. It’s good to have an outside point of view. BEST MOMENTS ‘Anything you want to happen can happen, but you’ve got to put yourself out there.’ ‘When I’ve got the theme the song just seems to come.’ ‘I recognised I was camera shy, so I started interviewing musicians because you can’t get away from cameras in the music industry.’ ‘There’s no room for self-doubt – enough people are going to do that for you.’ ‘Happiness is what we aspire to be every day, but it’s not possible. I’ll settle for happy some of the time when I can get there.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Born in South Wales, UK, Amy was submerged in music from an early age, entering her first talent contest aged six, singing “Somewhere over the Rainbow”. Amy studied classical piano and singing and developed an intimate love of Jazz in her teens. Possibly because the complexity of this style reflected the events that were occurring in her life at the time. Amy was declared as one out of only five children like her in the UK at the time. She had developed cataracts in both her eyes leaving her almost blind, and then diagnosed with a rare nerve condition which meant she was unable to feel hot, cold or superficial pain. Due to this nerve condition, she also developed Osteoarthritis leaving her almost wheelchair bound and caused her growth to stop completely. The ongoing traumas of her early childhood inevitably played a major role in suppressing Amy’s confidence throughout her life, especially being so short during an age when all a child wants to do is fit in, and not stand out because they looked so different. In 2019, Amy embarked on a career in voice over and has done work for radio, corporate events, international voicemail, businesses, animation and was cast as a newsreader for a short film during lockdown. Amy also has a YouTube channel where she has interviewed musicians, such as Ronnie Scott’s Saxophonist Derek Nash, Rat Pack legend Buddy Greco and Clint Eastwood’s son, Kyle. Amy’s continuous challenges in her daily life will always remain ‘real’, but with a ‘work in progress’ attitude, an ability to laugh at herself and to laugh in general, a continuous evolving perspective of her mind and a loving supportive personal environment, Amy always has a positive perspective on life and loves socialising with different, interesting people, never letting her limitations affect any of her engagements or working life. https://www.amysinha.com/ ABOUT THE HOST Taylor Roark is the founder of Galliant Trainings, which guides and facilitates individuals and organisations in Creative Purpose. This week's adventure is taken in the company of Dr. Robert Yoho, who retired in 2014 after four decades as a surgeon in emergency rooms and in cosmetics. He is the author of "Butchered by Healthcare" about how doctors, Big Pharma and corrupt government are ruining healthcare and, while this is largely a tale of the United States’ healthcare system, it’s applicable around the world today. His most recent book is ‘Hormone Secrets’ which is about how to use natural hormones to stay healthy, feel fantastic and avoid overpriced, toxic drugs. DISCLAIMER: This is not medical advice. Make your healthcare decisions with the help of a licensed provider. KEY TAKEAWAYS I was like Rip Van Winkle; I was asleep through my whole career, I gradually got more interested in – and it became a compulsion to figure out – medical corruption. In America we spend twice what other countries spend per capita on medical care, 20% of our GDP, $4 trillion on medical care to get products that are 50% ineffective or actually harmful. More US citizens have been convinced to take prescription drugs than anywhere else, 50-70% depending on the estimates. Big Pharma’s worldwide gross revenues are $1.3trillion and the reason they focus so much on the US is although it provides 40% of the revenue, 75% of the profits come from the US. Once money, favours or gifts exchange hands the well is poisoned, and there’s no one who can resist this – even a meal. To encapsulate this the drugs reps have the three Fs: food, friendship and funds. That’s what they use for influence, but some of them enforce the fourth F, which you might be able to work out! In America we have a perverse blend of capitalism and socialism which doesn’t work and has spawned double-digit growth every year and now it’s at a crisis point, I don’t know how much further it can go. Some commentators have called psychiatry the drug industry’s paradise because psychiatrists are more closely aligned with the industry and are essentially bought off by the industry than any other group of doctors. There are a large group of ‘psychiatry deniers’ who think they should hardly be in business at all and that the drugs are mainly harmful rather than helpful. BEST MOMENTS ‘I thought I was opening a can of worms, but instead I found a dumpster full of worms.’ ‘We rain money from the sky onto the medical industry in the US and it’s turned into a mess.’ ‘Big Pharma violates more laws than any industry in history, as measured by their criminal settlements with federal prosecutors.’ ‘We’ve been lied to by these companies over and over and over again.’ ‘SSRIs are marketed as remedying a chemical imbalance in the brain, that narrative is not science, it was invented by a drug marketing company.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Robert Yoho is 68 years old and has spent three decades as a cosmetic surgeon after a career as an emergency physician. Hint: big Pharma and big money are involved, and you have been listening to lies. In the last three or four years, he has been studying medical corruption with an additional interest in hormone therapy. This week's adventure is taken in the company of Chloe Bourjallia, a fellow adventurer in life and an intuitive life coach. She’s here with a message of hope, and talks about how to go for what you love, live in line with your values and how every breakdown is an opportunity for a breakthrough. KEY TAKEAWAYS Adventure can be physical, like travelling or climbing mountains. But it can also be spiritual, emotional and psychological. It could be making a decision to leave a relationship and not knowing what that’s going to bring to your life and how you’re going to sort out the mess. It’s really about making decisions that are a little bit risky, owning that and expecting that the best will come out of it, even if you don’t know. Adventure has enriched my life so much and my relationships, my understanding of people, my understanding of myself, my ability to deal with fear and shit hitting the fan when you least expect it. Finding your values is really important. Very often, people confuse values with how they would love things to be, ideally. Actually, your values are who you are inherently without even trying. This sounds really cheesy, but the way to find your true nature is to listen to your heart. Take a moment and forget about the money, the job, the responsibilities and all the things you think you need to do and the expectations other have about you and you just take some time, meditate, and ask yourself what you love – things, people, places, feelings, freedom, travel, anything – as soon as you set the intention it starts happening and you start seeing hints and clues. 2020 was going to be the best year for me, I was going to get married in Mauritius, it was all booked and then everything stopped and I was very angry at life, the government and circumstances. But we still got married in Battersea Park and it was perfect. But it took us a lot of refocussing on what really mattered for us and stay true to what we wanted it to be. BEST MOMENTS ‘If you take a risk, something could happen or nothing could happen, you don’t know.’ ‘The positive things that come with adventure completely outweigh the fears, doubts and potential negatives.’ ‘When you figure out who you are and what your values are, you’ll be able to deal with a lot more uncertainty than you thought.’ ‘Something amazing happens when you take a risk and succeed; other get to see it and they are inspired.’ ‘COVID created massive unknowns that we’ve never witnessed before, but what saved me was being able to refocus on what really mattered in life.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Chloé Bourjalliat is a Life Coach who specialises in helping women get clarity on their purpose, supporting them in turning their dreams into reality. This week's adventure is taken in the company of Ben Winter, the author of the books ‘Living Unscripted’ and ‘What to Expect When Having Expectations’. He has been an improvisational actor and has taught improv in business for over 10 years. Taylor and Ben talk about improvisation as the skill of living, how it gives you freedom and opens your world to confidence. As well as that, there’s a daring story about diving in the Galapagos. KEY TAKEAWAYS We’re surrounded by people all the time, in the home, at work, we’re not the only one ‘on the stage’, so we have to take them into account as well. We can’t learn an entire day’s script and memorise it in 5 minutes, we have to improvise our day, we don’t know what questions are going to come up. At some point the script could go to the wayside and you can improvise your way back to the script and if you don’t understand how improvisation works it can be frustrating, but if you understand how it works it can be a lot of fun. I teach improve in companies mainly for team building but it also helps with company culture, it helps with productivity, brainstorming, so many aspects because too often people do team building stuff that divides a team rather than brings them together, improv as a whole provides a foundation for everybody to work from. One of the rules of improv is ‘be specific’. It’s about setting expectations, providing enough information so people understand what you’re saying, where you’re going with it, why your train of thought is what it is. As I explored that more and more I realised the the reason a lot of people get upset is because an expectation hasn’t been met, so I created a flow chart to solve it. I don’t remember much of the dive in the Galapagos, except being very afraid because I couldn’t keep up. But, I have no regrets because it was scary but I did it and I can say that I’ve been to the Galapagos and I’ve SCUBA dived there and not too many people can say that. BEST MOMENTS ‘One of the greatest gifts we can give to ourselves is to BE in the present.’ ‘Find the game within the game.’ ‘Once you understand the rules it opens up the door to more fun and a better life.’ ‘Even if you have no expectations, you now have an expectation about having no expectations.’ ‘Improv is a no-lose scenario, people will think “at least they tried” if you fail, if you’re amazing people will wonder “how did they do that?!”’ VALUABLE RESOURCE The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Ben Winter is the founder and CEO of Success Improv, a business that provides a combination of personal growth and improv to improve areas of your life including business, relationships, family, social interactions, and much more. This week's adventure is taken in the company of Isik Tlabar, an empowerment coach and breathwork facilitator who works primarily with teachers, coaches and facilitators, directing them to their magnificence. Taylor and Isik have a rolling discussion on connection, joy, curiosity and how to bring all of these things into the adventure of your life, as well as giving permission to let them in to your hearts. Along the way they talk about conscious kink and what happens when you miss a flight at the airport. KEY TAKEAWAYS Relationships go into a dead end when you look at someone and think I know who you are, I know how you work, I know what you do and don’t like, and then we put people into a box. But those people are always growing, and when we’re curious about them it make us want to find out more about ourselves as well. I tune into my clients’ greatness, their true nature, their purpose, what they’re here for, and one reflection I often get is ‘I kind of know this, but the fact that you don’t know me and have tuned into me and told me all these things is giving me the extra permission, now I’m actually going to do something about it.’ We tell ourselves we can’t do things because I’m not good enough, people won’t like me if I do that, or I’ll be rejected, and we tone ourselves down, but the ability is always there waiting to come out. If you plant a seed, you can’t see it growing underground. But because you’re not seeing the results straight away can sometimes feel demoralising or that you’ve failed and it’s not working. That’s why it’s so important to keep an eye on your vision, where you wan to go whilst taking little steps and trusting that you’re doing what you need to do to get there. Imagine if we just planned everything and there was no space in your life for adventure. There’d be no room for meaningful relationships with anyone else. Also, always chasing new experiences can be destructively addictive. BEST MOMENTS ‘The day we stop learning is the day we stop being curious. Curiosity brings aliveness.’ ‘Fear of failure makes us little kids in an adult’s body.’ ‘You’ve got to give yourself the right elements for your self-actualisation to flourish.’ ‘Instead of blaming others for what’s going wrong, accept it and own it and move on. You are your own guarantee.’ ‘Everything is great in balance and that’s why you need a structure.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Isik is a transformational coach, embodiment & breathwork facilitator. This week's adventure is taken in the company of international dating coach, Lily Walford, founder of Love With Intelligence. Lily and Taylor talk about how to make the practical in relationships personal through connection and self-awareness and how, ultimately, we connect to other by connection with ourselves and how a healthy relationship with a partner starts with a healthy relationship with you. KEY TAKEAWAYS There’s an element – that always comes back to childhood – that we have to work for love, or we have to be something for love, or we have to say or do things, and people often get uncomfortable with the concept of unconditional love. Often, experiencing betrayal, or when people do something outside of your expectations, it’s not the fact that the person has done it, it’s feeling uneasy or unclear on what your behaviour or actions should be as a result. A lot of the elements of where things go wrong in a relationships is the way that you see yourself. This becomes the role that you end up playing. The role that’s being played out isn’t just in relationships, it’s in friendships, at work, in your career. Understanding how that’s playing out and the patterns, and the emotional calibration as well. There shouldn’t be compromise in a relationship, no one should be the martyr, it’s patriarchal and old-fashioned. You have two equals in a relationship who are able to collaborate together to get the result that’s good for both of you and also your relationship. Our relationship and our love only exists because we’re there to be able to create it. If we hadn’t met it wouldn’t be there, but it’s understanding how we interact with it and the way that we understand and see it. We never know if we see colours the same way as other people, it’s the same thing with love. Again, if you have similar beliefs, see things similarly and play by the same rules it helps to navigate things. BEST MOMENTS ‘You can’t receive love if you don’t have trust – not trust from the other person, but trust from yourself.’ ‘The four ‘Cs’ of a healthy relationship: Compatibility, Communication, Consideration and Collaboration.’ ‘You need to remember; you’re two individuals but you should be travelling in the same way to the same destination.’ ‘You need a healthy relationship with yourself because by looking after yourself you can give more.’ ‘There’s nothing worse than being with someone who doesn’t consider you.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Lily Walford is an international dating coach who has been focused on how busy professionals can date safely and successfully using CIA level behavioural psychology, profiling and body language so that her clients can enjoy undeniable love that lasts. www.lovewithintelligence.com ABOUT THE HOST Taylor Roark is the founder of Galliant Trainings, which guides and facilitates individuals and organisations in Creative Purpose. This week's adventure is taken in the company of Christina Kottori, a modern Greek priestess, oracle and mystical dancer – meaning she is a vessel and conduit of the light to serve people. She talks about how we can see our life as myth and as through myth, the understanding of archetypes as a guide to life for better understanding, knowing yourself and opening your heart. KEY TAKEAWAYS Social standards have taught us what is the ‘right’ behaviour, what has restricted or restrained us into ‘right ‘ and ‘wrong’ behaviour and supressed a lot of the archetypes we have inside. Archetypes are a right-brain way to help us understand ourselves better and how we work as humans. The Ancient Greeks said outside of Delphi there was a sign that said: ‘Know thyself’. This is the highest thing man can do. By understanding that we are so vast, and we have so many faces, we understand and know ourselves better. There is always a superficial way to see a myth, like a fairytale that once happened. My invitation is always to go deeper into the esoteric and the symbolism. There has been manipulation in everything, I think the Greek myths – the way they’re written – don’t resonate, and it feels like there has been distortion of the myth through the patriarchy. People talk about the myths and how nice they are but I wanted to go in another level and what it is to actually embody myths, to feel the wat this god or goddess felt in this myth or story. They way I want to do this is through body and movement as well as feeling through my experience of yoga and tantra. I am here to create a space for people to experience something transcendental. I open a space by invoking, in ancient Greek, the goddess and I bring the spirits and guiding the people to prayer so they feel the spirits. Then breathing practices help people to get out of their brain to understand the myth and bring the to presence in the now and I guide them through meditation, acting and tantric exercises into the myth. BEST MOMENTS ‘Archetypes live through stories that have been told for years. We can find first written, and at the same time we can find them in every man.’ ‘We’re not wrong, we’re not bad. There’s a lot of guilt and shame that prevents us from loving ourselves. This is the ultimate enlightenment to let us know who we are.’ ‘The Greek Gods have desires and passions, making them more human, more relatable.’ ‘We are all spiritual but some can remember and some have forgotten.’ ‘Our fear of dying prevents us from living, the ancient Greeks would initiate themselves to death so they could live freely. This is very needed right now because people are so afraid to die and they’ve forgot that the soul never dies.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Christina Kottori is a Greek Mystic Muse and a world-wide traveller. This week's adventure is taken in the company of Carina Notivoli, author of the book ‘Dad, Where Are You?’, the first in a trilogy that looks at her own personal story and how that combines with seeking and searching and the spirituality of living from the heart. She’s also a mother of three, which has given her great insight into how the feminine and masculine can learn from each other in today’s world. Taylor and Carina talk about the integration of East and West philosophy, the rational and the irrational and how to live from the heart by daring to try. KEY TAKEAWAYS I find myself with the space in life that I have now written a book and I think it’s my inner drive that has been helping me find my way to this space. It’s important to have space to put adult things aside and go into that child space. Mystical, spiritual experiences and creative experiences are very intimately connected, they are very close to each other. The best ones I’ve had always came when I least expected it. The ancients talked about the muse and I think there is something to that, allowing one’s self to be so open. I was born with ‘father unknown’ on my birth certificate and decided at a young age that I was going to find my father, which I did. But I also play with the words in the title of the novel in a Christian way to ask: ‘where are you, God?’ For a woman, what kind of role model is that? Being a mother of three sons has helped me put aside my feminine rage because I see how they are also becoming victims to the patriarchy we have created. We have so much man and women in us both so perhaps that’s where we need to start looking deeper, which is also what a lot of ancient religions are talking about. Gardening has been very important for understanding love and the cycles and patience. You learn so much from taking care of a garden and growing your own food. Indigenous people have such a deep understanding that you can’t exploit the earth because if you do, you’ll destroy her. We do that so much in capitalist societies and through industrial technologies. BEST MOMENTS ‘I always had a sense of drive in my life, as if there was something speaking from within, taking me to places in search for meaning.’ ‘Oftentimes my ideas that I write or paint about come to me and I have to grab them so they don’t slip away.’ ‘I believe in a God that is both within and without.’ ‘If we can wed feminine and masculine thinking it could sow the seed of love and respect for all things.’ ‘WE have to dare a little bit more to question what we already know.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Carina Notivoli is a nurse and an artist who recetly launched her first novel in a series of three books, Alma Mater. The first book is called ”Dad, Where are you?” and touches upon the subject of the absent father and the embracing mother on different levels. Alma Mater also means the university one graduated from. Carina means that we can also see life as the ultimate school. There is a Hopiproverb that says “The storytellers rule the world.” Really? Then what stories rule the world? How are we doing? What does the world look like? Is it time for a new story? How does a new story come into being? https://www.carinanotivoli.com/ ABOUT THE HOST Taylor Roark is the founder of Galliant Trainings, which guides and facilitates individuals and organisations in Creative Purpose. This week's adventure is taken in the company of Christina Valeska to talk about the experiment of being human and embodying our soul’s journey. This episode is about relaxing into self with awareness and that awareness brings choice and the ability to use our willpower. Christina had a transformation experience at a silent retreat in Thailand having had no experience of meditation and she brings that understanding to what the body is longing to tell us, how it is longing to speak to us and work through our trauma to move toward integration and wholeness. KEY TAKEAWAYS I feel there’s this knowing and wisdom inside of me that is unaffected by social conditioning and expectations from the outside and it’s not fighting it, it’s just there, ready and waiting for me to get out of my own way and allowing it to flow through. Everything I experience from soul in myself and in other people is so deeply connected to love and service. There’s nothing to fear, but it’s quite a journey to get there and stay there and live from there. It takes a lot of courage because there will be no one that lives like you and no one for you to follow in their footsteps. As a child I felt like I was born into the wrong family, that’s where my interest started in how I was different from my parents, their expectations, their idea of how they want me to be and also from my brothers and the way they interact with my parents and with life. Many people don’t make it to the end of an 11 day silent retreat because they are confronted with things inside of themselves that they didn’t know were there and they cannot be with themselves in silence. That’s what made me go to the retreat. I had no training in yoga or meditation, hadn’t even read a book. I went to find out if I could survive 11 days with myself. It turned out to be the best time of my life. I’ve felt I’ve been guided towards my yoga therapy work without realising by practicing and teaching yoga for many years. This led me to the point where I had a lot of focus on one person and a lot of time to feel into them, breathe with them and touch them, then a lot of things opened up within me; information; a way of seeing that I’ve always had that’s a bit different from other people – a vision of what’s happening under the skin. BEST MOMENTS ‘The way life flows through me naturally is very powerful, it’s not passive, but it’s effortless in a way.’ ‘We’re all pioneers in the expression of life through this form and in this moment.’ ‘I became aware of all these things my head was doing all day and I saw how I could change it.’ ‘I heard the word bliss for the first time at the retreat, I didn’t even know the vocabulary – I had no German word for that.’ ‘If we shut our demons in the basement, they will start to run the show from there.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Christina Valeska is a therapist who practices Soul Embodiment Sessions and Soul Design Readings for women, men and children, as well as open yoga classes and workshops, and special events, soul dance and retreats exclusively for women. In her work she sees herself as an instrument of life energy and a mirror of the wisdom of your soul, which is fully within you and wants to communicate with you. She says it already does this in different ways, be it through physical symptoms, intense feelings, recurring thoughts, repetitions of often unpleasant experiences and other signs in your life. Ultimately through the things that shake you up, occupy you and make you search for answers, solutions and support. This week's adventure is taken in the company of Daniela Lanaia, a healer and musician who uses nature as a muse in both her music and in her sessions. Daniela brings a very laid-back atmosphere to this episode where the pair talk about the balance of masculine and feminine energies and how they work so well together to bring an equilibrium to life and nature. KEY TAKEAWAYS • I’ve been especially working with feminine energies and how we restore these sacred pathways of the feminine and masculine and the way of nature. How do we return to our essence and the qualities that we carry that were sown into these bodies that we incarnated in to and restore that balance within ourselves and in the Earth. • The imbalance that we see in the world is coming out of our own thoughts. But even chaos has order. During these lockdowns where the whole world has stayed at home, I’ve heard it said that it was Mother Earth sending us away to reflect on our lives because we’ve caused so much imbalance in the world that it couldn’t continue. • I had a dream years ago that sound would be the medicine that would carry us across the bridge from the old world to the new, tat sound would be the medicine of the future. A lot of my work with sound comes from listening to the frequencies of nature, especially stones at sacred sites, and the resonance of these aspects of nature. • In the pause between breaths we enter that still pint, we have these movements and pauses – the space in between the sounds – which is very calming for the mind, the nervous system and the body. • All the traditions in the world, that I can think of, place importance and practices on quietening of the mind to connect and to receive because we’re not separate – we have an ego, a mind and a body, but we are part of this web of life where we are all connected. BEST MOMENTS ‘This healing and restoration of balance is reflected in the Earth.’ ‘We are cells within the body of Mother Earth. If one cell becomes unhealthy it affects all the other cells around it and the body becomes sick.’ ‘Everything has its own sound, its own song.’ ‘With words, writing and sound we can create anything.’ ‘Not all the fruits ripen on the tree at the same time, it’s part of an evolution of consciousness that we’re all moving through individually and collectively.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Daniela Lanaia is a healer and musician whose work focuses on re-weaving our inner landscapes and sacred relationship with Mother Earth. This week's adventure is taken in the company of Alison Pilling who speaks about how love, relationships, sex and intimacy matter to us. These things matter to us more than we care to admit and are a big influence on our ability to be happy. Alison is a certified sexological body worker and intimacy coach with a personal background in tantra and conscious kink which can help us explore our shadow-side for awareness and ultimately healing. Alison has also created and host The Sex Lectures in Manchester, runs an online sexual salon and works with private clients on the fundamentals and practice of modern sex education. KEY TAKEAWAYS There’s a sense that sex is something we just don’t know about, wondering if there’s something more than I’ve experienced, is this it, what else is there, am I supposed to like this, how does it work, why are relationships so confusing? None of us are alone in that bewilderment. 10 Years ago, I was the same. But, coming up to 50 I decided to explore it alongside personal development. I meet loads of people in sex positive groups and we’re all there because it was a mystery and a confusion and something that each of us found really hard to understand in our lives. And whether we’re wounded healers or adventurers we’ve gone into more depth about what that connection and our personal eroticism is. People love to think that sex is magic, but if you rely on magic or telepathy you can make a lot of mistakes. Learning to communicate about what feels nice for us – because often we’re focussed on somebody else – one of the many things that has helped me is understanding my body, what feels nice on my skin, how I like to be touched and how I touch someone else. I would say that if we want to have good sexual experiences in our lives, if we can move between these three realms: Partner Engagement, Play and Trance States, we can have variety, novelty, depth and relationship. One or two of us has had a bad relationship. Conscious kink can be used to heal old wounds. A sense of betrayal can be hidden in the body that comes out through sex. I went on a few kink courses and found out a lot about my feelings of betrayal and power dynamics. BEST MOMENTS ‘Sexuality and eroticism are personal, we need to find our individuality in it.’ ‘Through tantra I got to explore who I was in the presence of someone else.’ ‘This body is mine and I’m responsible for all the things in it; emotion, health, pleasure and you’re responsible for your body.’ ‘Understanding what’s worth wanting in any given moment rather than hoping we like what happens to us is major.’ ‘Being asked made a huge difference because I could feel if I wanted it and notice how I felt or was able to say ‘no’.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Alison does not offer tips to "spice up" your sex life. instead, she talks about why and how exploring sexuality add to a sense of aliveness, authenticity and trust; a way into understanding ourselves and others. This week's adventure is taken in the company of Amanda Hill Ryall, a primary school teacher who has written a book – ‘I Choose Me’ – about her change and learning in life and coming to accept herself and to move away from the Idea of perfectionism. She’s also written a series of four other books called ‘Mood Munchers’ for children which talk about processing emotions and that all emotions are OK. They discuss all of this as well as what it means to be an inspiration living in the spirit of the moment in a tale of joy, compassion and discovery. KEY TAKEAWAYS Inspiring is literally drawing in breath to invigorate the body. The breath is the coming home. Life can get difficult and in situations where I’m feeling overwhelmed, I’ll stop for a moment and breathe deeply. We’re born with our breath and we’ll die with our breath, it’s part of us but we don’t use it and come home to ourselves enough. The reason I decided to be a teacher of young children is because of their creativity, curiosity and innocence. They’re out to play, they don’t care what anybody things, they accept everything just as it is in the present moment. As we get older we lose that. I ask my pupils ‘do you think I know everything? I may be an adult, but I’m the same as you, just a bit taller, we’re all connected.’ How we connect to each other is important The biggest breakthrough for me, as an adult, was the statement ‘Thank you, btu what you think of me is none of my business.’ I thought, of course it’s my business how very dare you! That shocked me to my core to realise how attached I was to the approval of others. Why? I was addicted to guilt and shame, they were my ‘go to’ places; you eat the chocolate cake and berate yourself for it the next day. Spend a day catching yourself and write down each time you do. What I look into now is gratitude; gratitude that I’m alive with my breath to stand up and meet and make connections with people. BEST MOMENTS ‘We can all inspire, but you have to connect with yourself first.’ ‘I was avoiding myself at all costs, but I wrote my first book to get over my victimhood and become centred.’ ‘Taking silent time for yourself is the most beautiful gift you can give yourself.’ ‘School should be about discovery. Discovery of self and discovery of learning.’ ‘I’m not critical anymore, if something doesn’t go the way I thought it was going to I keep an open mind. That’s where growth is.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST As a best-selling author and podcaster with her show ‘You Choose You Now’, Amanda is a leader in helping parents and adults to heal their inner wounded child so they can become the very best version of themselves to inspire their children – our future. With her passion, energy and enthusiasm Amanda is courageous in sharing her own story of depression and low self-worth to reveal how she overcame her limiting beliefs and inherited family narratives to become a woman that lives in complete gratitude and alignment with her purpose and in doing so, enable others to come home to themselves and lead others. As a mother and wife, Amanda is the CEO (Chief Energy Officer) in her family and with her sense of joy and excitement shows up as a role-model for her family and inspires them to accept who they truly are. A teacher working in both in the UK and abroad, Amanda has worked in the Education sector to allow children to show up as individuals to discover their interests through their curiosity, creativity and sense of wonder. Helping children to understand that they are not their thoughts or their emotions, Amanda has created her ‘Mood Munchers’ characters that are all the emotions we feel but are uncomfortable communicating. With her awareness and spirit of joy, she uses these characters in the classrooms to help children acknowledge their feelings. Amanda is based in London, UK and has appeared as a guest speaker in podcast shows such as “The Mummy Warriors”, “Let’s Talk About Self Harm”, “The Journey” and more. She has been on radio with "The Yakking Show” and “Chat and Spin Radio”. With her passion and purpose, Amanda is determined to help parents connect with their inner child and heal themselves so that they are their true authentic beings and as a result become amazing, inspirational parents. In love, joy and compassion Amanda shows up every day to inspire and lead those around her so that the world can become a better place to BE. This week's adventure is taken in the company of influence architect and business growth strategist, Phil Pelucha, the owner and founder of Billionaires in Boxers which helps businesses unlock the power of game-changing strategic alliances by leveraging podcasting and media. Phil talks about the brand Billionaires in Boxers, how it came to be and how different people have connected with and created their own story around the brand before even knowing what it’s about, as well as how to succeed in strategic alliances and capitalising on connecting the right people. KEY TAKEAWAYS We’ve all worked with people we wish we hadn’t bothered with. We’ve tried to force paths to coexist on a line together that really shouldn’t have been together. This happens when you make logical decisions over heartfelt decisions. It’s the clients that you adapt for them that end up being the biggest pain in the backside. You need to be really strong with what you do, why you’re doing it, how much it costs and if other people want to work with you and you resonate together, that’s fantastic. But if you don’t, don’t do it. Perhaps introduce them to someone you think they would work well with instead. Some people think they’ll hustle and grind right now to get the money later and get fit and healthy after hiring a personal trainer. You won’t because your success wasn’t built at that frequency. When you see yourself in the future as a wealthy entrepreneur that doesn’t look like you right now, implement things like the gym or running into your life right now. There’s no barrier to entry to go running or seeing your friends and have fun. Don’t wait for success before implementing these things. The corporate world ruins things for you when you start to set benchmarks every time you hit a certain level of income. That then becomes the baseline, even if it was an anomaly. This applies to salaries too. There’s never an appreciation of where you are right now. There’s a company in the US that owns a hangar in the UK that rents that space out to a photographer to take pictures of people in a private jet, in a Bentley, a Rolls-Royce, a Bugatti, all the slow-motions shots of them coming out and it looks like it’s in a street but it’s a green-screen. I thought: ‘How sad is it that they feel the need to do that.’ But I found out that a lot of the big names in the coaching industry have these shots all over their Instagram. They’re the modern day snake oil tradesmen. BEST MOMENTS ‘Your vibe attracts your tribe’ ‘Monetise your ‘nos’’ ‘You can’t solve a problem from the same frequency it was created in.’ ‘It’s dangerous to say you’ll be happy in the future, tomorrow’s not guaranteed, so why not be happy today?’ ‘I have made and lost a fortune and you learn the most from your mistakes.’ ‘Strop judging yourself by other people’s standards.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Phil Pelucha is the founder of Billionaires in Boxers. This week's adventure is taken in the company of artist, Christopher Swift who, after a brief chat about how podcasts – like art – allow the ability to reach out and touch people all over the world, settle into the main topic; changing perspectives by literally moving across the globe. KEY TAKEAWAYS There’s a temptation, an ease, an inertia to just going through the motions, because there’s a presumed safety in the 9-5, 5 days a week routine. But that can be changed at any moment for all sort of reasons. I became a father at the age of 40 and the realities between the ideas of becoming a father, the ideas of being a subject of a father and living as a son growing up from a son to a young adult and then a father and the roles we take on in the structures of Western society. And then you get to the actual, white-knuckle experience of becoming a father were totally different. A knowledge base is gained through trial and error, through practice. We bring theories and concepts – often represented by physical objects – into the real world and grapple with those. There’s something that can only happen through the adventure/life trial. No one is rewarded without getting involved. I now have a responsibility to provide safety and stability for my child, which were not necessarily there for me as a child. So, I’ve had to put my art and creativity to the side in order to do that. It’s unfortunate that the purchase or artwork adds to the value of the artwork itself. However, someone else has validated the sense of value that the artist had in it in the first place and sometimes more so. But until it’s sold it’s a failure. BEST MOMENTS ‘There are no guarantees, life is an adventure if you choose for it to be.’ ‘Humans thrive somewhere in the middle of the comfort that routine brings and the dangers that come from the opposite of that.’ ‘When the child arrives, a father is born.’ ‘Our failures and setbacks have informed us when we get back up and try it again.’ ‘Life has its own wisdom and time has its own lessons to impart to us. If you knew how hard certain things were to do, you’d never have started them. This week's adventure is taken in the company of author, speaker and transformative coach Sam Led who focusses on guiding people back to wellbeing and success After a major setback in life. His book, Fear Less, talks about his living through personal hardship and how to rise above the darkness in your life. They talk about the brain as a computer, how it can glitch, and how to realise that you are not the sum total of your thought, how you can get it wrong, how to polish the lens of the heart and that deep down you all are diamonds. KEY TAKEAWAYS Presence and mindfulness is bandied about, but being able to polish off the dust from your heart that settled from the day before is about refocussing that presence and awareness. We think we’re living through our circumstances in the outside world, but we have it backwards, I think we’re living through a world f thought and thinking. We think that’s reality and the brain is doing its best to keep us safe, but we forget who we are and that we do our best when we’re not thinking. When we’re in a low mood, the brain wants to find a fall guy to keep us safe. It’s normal to feel low, when we start to think it’s not normal, that’s when the problems start. The brain is only as good as the operator, like if you don’t plug your laptop into the wall you can’t turn it on. Some of our brains glitch and you have to hit Ctl/Alt/Delete, and that’s OK too. All of you are diamonds covered in shit and layered in lipstick, what matters is the diamond part. BEST MOMENTS ‘If you asked me over three years ago that we’d be chanting the Hanuman Chalisa I’d be like ‘What?! This week's adventure is taken in the company of Spencer Madden to talk about sacredness and having the importance of having intent, consciousness and awareness of what we’re doing – whatever it is – that there is an opportunity to bring these aspects into the moment. It makes all things possible. KEY TAKEAWAYS It’s great to see more and more people talking about and bringing more attention to the present moment, the now. This is a way to access our higher self and to know ourselves. Being present means moving down from the intellect in your head into your heart space, into your intuition. Breath is one of the biggest thing that you can focus on to keep you in the moment. You can’t be focussed on your breathing and be thinking of something else at the same time. Our culture has dismembered our soul from our brain and our heart. Re-membering helps us put back together the whole of who we are. We have the ability to be artists and create whatever we want to see in our lives if we connect with our higher selves and work on that connection. There was an intentional energetic shift in 2012 that allowed people to remember hints of what was possible in the infinite. Now more people are remembering, those people are starting to make changes. BEST MOMENTS ‘As I choose to be present, concerns and worries have less relevance or currency.’ ‘Take three breaths 3, 5, 10, 15 times a day and each time you’ll plug in to the infinite.’ ‘To journey from believing to knowing, you just have to do.’ ‘If you follow what feels good In your gut and work at it, you’ll start remembering.’ ‘Part of this awakening is a return to unity consciousness. People are not separate. We live, die and breathe together.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Spencer Raymond Madden (also known by his forest name, Ghostcat Blood) is the founder of New Earth Masculine Leadership, which is one of this planet's most immersive, intensive, and elite masculine leadership development programs. This week's adventure is taken in the company of dating and relationship expert and coach, Sarah Louise Ryan, to talk about all things love, from what society has told us it means to the everyday struggles of maintaining it as well as how to nourish it and even love in the business space. KEY TAKEAWAYS We romanticise love and idealise love in a way that it’s out of reach or hard to attain, but it doesn’t have to be as long as we’re present in ourselves. We have unconscious thoughts about where we are and assuming where the other person is from the first moment you meet somebody, sometimes bringing decades of experience, disappointment, and expectations of what society has told us about people. People are onto the next always on the search for that one perfect person for them, we’re always exploring while always wanting more. If we can eradicate the idea that one true person exists, we might seek connection with the people we’re meeting and discarding. In the world we live in today we’re oversaturated with everything and that applies to the world of dating too, it’s the paradox of choice: When you look at how people can connect there are so many choices of how to meet people that we struggle to make a decision. So many people build businesses because they want to help others, especially dating agencies. They don’t come in with a business mindset so the consultancy side of what I do is helping people turn their passion into their business because managing people and expectations is a really tough job. BEST MOMENTS ‘TV shows like Love Island are putting out an unhealthy idea about how to attain love today’ ‘My perception of you is a reflection of me’ ‘The idea that ‘The One’ exists is really unhealthy because we’re compatible with so many different people, we change, grow, evolve and learn’ ‘People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime’ ‘People need to communicate better because by doing so you’ll sieve out all the people that will waste your time otherwise’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Sarah Louise Ryan, International Matchmaker, Relationship Expert & Dating Industry Consultant. This week's adventure is taken in the company of Charlie Sheldon who has a broad and colourful life history and has begun collecting, creating and telling his stories. In this episode he puts us into the mindset of the writer, spent both in self-doubt and artistic freedom. KEY TAKEAWAYS Charlie’s novels always started with a premise, sometimes quite frivolous ones, and would spin out from there. Now, he’s started to deal with more complicated issues and asking fundamental questions like what drives certain people to do what they do. Every hour someone spends in a creative space (writing, making music, etc) is not taken from your time on Earth. If you could be in that space all the time you could live forever. When you do deep research into your characters something goes on in your brain and the characters, and the story, appear almost fully-formed. It was the transference of culture through telling of stories from generation to generation that made us modern humans, before that there was no memory of life previously. BEST MOMENTS ‘Storytelling isn’t a choice, it’s something you’re driven to do’ ‘Most artistic people know what’s there, whether it’s a story or a song, it’s the getting it out that’s the hard part. 90% of writing is editing’ ‘You want the reader to be engaged in the story, each character has to have their own challenge and arc as to how they overcome it’ ‘It’s always about the reader, they either fall into it or not and either way that’s great’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Every great scientific discovery began as a heretical, outrageous idea dismissed and condemned by all. Those ideas that today are considered foolish, even dangerous, may turn out to be true, given evidence, often much evidence, to counter the huge power of the status quo. Charlie Sheldon writes fiction about these issues, often with a touch of magic realism, even a breath of fantasy, for only in those realms can the reader accept and truly imagine what today might be considered impossible. He has always been a writer, always a hiker, trained as a wildlife biologist, living in the Pacific Northwest, a husband, father, grandfather, and friend. In work life, Charlie was a graduate student teacher, a commercial fisherman, a house painter, a fisheries consultant, a treasure hunter, then a planner, a construction manager, a project manager, even an executive for various seaports - for 28 years. After he retired from port work at age 65, Charlie went back to sea as a merchant sailor for four years before leaving to write his latest book series. The Strong Heart Series is about Olympic National Park, the Gulf of Alaska, a certain ornery young girl, and ancient history. These stories ask the question: could the ancient legends of most First peoples of North America that they have always been here - always - be true? Along the way he has learned much about what we know, and how much more we do not know, plus a healthy dose of aversion to zealotry and people who are absolutely convinced they know what is best for the rest of us. https://charliesheldon2.com/ ABOUT THE HOST Taylor Roark is the founder of Galliant Trainings, which guides and facilitates individuals and organisations in Creative Purpose. This week's adventure is taken in the company of Scott Gazzoli, whose podcast – Causing The Effect – Taylor has guested on. The pair talk about how the quest for money and wealth generation in the corporate world wasn’t as fulfilling for them as providing knowledge and help to people in the same position they were a few years ago as well as Scott’s entry into the world of stand-up comedy. KEY TAKEAWAYS For billionaires money is infinite and there are always people wanting to take from them. What they don’t have is time, so I give them that by doing what they need done, whether that’s MNA financing, buying baseball teams, recruiting, etc. Talking to my workforce and making sure everyone’s happy is important, you don’t have to be a tyrant to run a business. Incentivise people on an individual basis. Fear is an attempt to avoid danger that, ironically, prolongs the exposure to the danger. Who would you be in 5 years’ time if you just did what you wanted to do at the time? You have to take action. You start caring about what people think of you in high school, it’s where I got stage fright for the first time. I always wanted to do something in self-expression, all three of my jobs are in self-expression. The tools I’m learning through these are going to help me in whatever I want to do in the future. Meditation is important, 2 hours a day in the morning. Yoga also helps with control. But if you’re trying to get somewhere through meditation you won’t make it, because you’re focussing too hard on it. BEST MOMENTS ‘I try to learn from every challenge that’s thrown at me’ ‘Money doesn’t make you anything, it just amplifies who you already are’ ‘You can tell how somebody treats people by how they treat a waiter’ ‘You’ve got to go to the places that scare you, that’s where the learning is’ ‘I needed to go through everything I went through to get to where I am’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Scott Gazzoli is the host of Causing The Effect. This week's adventure is taken in the company of Pat Lynes, a business consultancy owner that specialises in helping companies into the digital future. He talks to Taylor about how life coaching has helped him to identify what he really wanted in life after feeling trapped in his previous career. KEY TAKEAWAYS A lot of corporations have a culture of their employees working for the next pay check, but people want to be challenged and feel involved. The company needs to make a profit, but the happiness and health of the employees is paramount. It’s good that coaching isn’t a taboo any more, I was in a decent job earning a good salary and thought I was mad to want to give it up, but my coach made me see that money wasn’t the thing that motivated me and that constantly growing and learning was. Intuitive coaching is as much about learning to be your own coach and empowering yourself as it is about taking advice. Spirit guides – or intuitive coaching – is where you develop that gut feel on a situation both personally or in business through meditation, asking questions of yourself and noting down the answers you receive. On some level, most people know that they know what they should do within a situation, but distractions are so many and varied. There’s a misconception that meditation is emptying your mind completely and we haven’t been brought up to believe that intuition is a valid way to make decisions. But, if you try it and develop it over time to get good results from your guidance the more succinct the guidance becomes. BEST MOMENTS ‘Look after your people and your people will look after your customers’ ‘Life’s too short to be stuck in a job you don’t enjoy’ ‘You’re the CEO of your own life, successful businesses have a board, so why shouldn’t you have a ‘board’ of people to help you through it’ ‘You get to choose what you do with your life’ ‘Follow your nose, what feels right probably is’ ‘Noise and digital noise in life is so loud that people miss some of the strongest weapons you have, your gut and your intuition’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Pat Lynes is the Founder of Sullivan & Stanley and created the “The Change Society” movement to shake up tired recruitment and consulting models. This week's adventure is taken in the company of Georgie Holbrook who is an emotional wellness coach who teaches people how to spot health issue through listening to the body’s internal language and authentically expressing themselves after years of suffering from the skin contition, Rosacea. Georgie has made it her mission to teach others how to heal their hidden traumas, and learn prevention, so that they can start living a life that they are passionate about without fear of old patterns returning. KEY TAKEAWAYS The universe asked what do you want and I asked for little, because I thought I deserved little, but the universe said you can have it all. What if we could see that the universe operates in harmony and that intelligence lives inside of us and requires us to live in harmony inside ourselves. The Western world has a concept of separation, that we are separate from nature, the idea of a soul is pushed aside and bound to a religion. We aren’t necessarily a body with a soul inside, we’re a soul in a body, how could you not then be attached to nature? Trauma is collected on the cellular level, science is not accepting that that cellular trauma is inherited in the cells of our children. To be aware of what you’re made of and what created you is a landscape of possibility and you get to choose what to do with that. The internal side of us knows how to heal us and turn our life around. BEST MOMENTS ‘When you set an intention to have an amazing experience, learn, to connect to your heart, to express beautiful emotion, to create a business endeavour, whatever it is, that tiny seed can grow effortlessly and easily.’ ‘I was taught to go up stream, that life was hard, and suffering was normal and to do work that I didn’t enjoy.’ ‘We’re born sacred and we come into the world with a purpose and a passion, just like our fingerprints, that nobody else can fulfil and I don’t want to die with my art still left in me.’ (12 minutes for the clip. Maybe 30 minutes or 33) ‘We keep stuffing trauma and hurt down and try to ride over the top of them, I believe in talk therapy but with my clients I teach them that it’s important to identify, not relive, the past. Really acknowledge what we’ve been through and release it so we can have freedom from it.’ ‘From the outside, when I was younger, it looked like I’d arrived. I was working 12-14 hours a day for a Fortune 500 company, but I didn’t have a life. I was hired for the amazing mind that I have but I was being used and I got ill.’ ‘We aren’t taught to love ourselves as unconditionally as a child for example, but it’s a practice we should try.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Georgie Holbrook is an internationally recognized personal and professional guide, emotional wellness mentor, holistic educator, and author of four self-help books. Georgie went from having a tragic deforming incurable disease on her face for six years and near blindness, to experiencing natural steps to self-healing without taking drugs. Having been given a second chance, she dedicated her life to share the gift of her healing discoveries with others. It is her hope to help others see the serious consequences of self-neglect, and generational social conditioning that dis-empowers the joy-full soul, and the enormous possibilities and individual passion that comes when living in harmony with our Inherent nature. She has held a private practice for over 20 years, and her healing story has been published in 23 national magazines. This week, Taylor takes an adventure with therapist and EMDR specialist, Alex Boianghu, a master of using compassion and awareness to help people process trauma and move on to brighter futures. Alex talks about impermanence and how a revelation in his youth caused him to view life and time very differently, as well as the pillars of consciousness alive inside us all, the effects of environment upon the way we think, feel and live, and how we must embrace a new type of consciousness - one that will allow our lives to be experienced in far richer ways. KEY TAKEAWAYS Nobody gets out of life unscathed or unconditioned. We all suffer the bruises and scars of life's journey. The notion of living a perfect life without issue does not exist. The sooner we realise this, the sooner we find harmony. There are three different "K" aspects of consciousness happening inside us all, at all times: Knowing, The Knower, and The Known. The nervous system is the mediator between the internal world and the environment around us. The nervous system is influenced and shaped as far back as pre-birth, when the mother's state can shape the feelings of her child in utero, leading to long-lasting effects throughout life. Those who do not feel a sense of self or stability, are generally those who have tried, and failed, to fit their existence, their consciousness, into some cookie-cutter shape of what society tells us is the right path. BEST MOMENTS 'At a really early age I experienced some deep insights. One of the major insights was of impermanence' 'The two worlds of east and west have a completely different idea of what consciousness is' 'It's incredible that still to this day, we think that we're somehow an isolated being - an island unto ourselves' 'We apply the same unconscious material, and what's driving that is a deep existential experience or feeling that something is wrong with me' 'We're letting go on conditionality, we're letting go of separation, and starting to experience the intimacy of the now' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Alex Boianghu is a dedicated and gifted therapist with over 30 years of study and practice. This week's adventure is taken with the host of The Adventures of Self Podcast, Taylor Roark himself who reflects on the first 25 episodes of the podcast and to look ahead to what lies in the future of the podcast. Taylor has suffered from depression at various points in his life and the last couple of episodes have made him aware that it’s an important topic to talk about. So, he shares various ways that have helped him deal with his depression in the hope that perhaps it can help listeners with their own struggles. KEY TAKEAWAYS There are 10 steps that I use to treat my depression, they may not help you, but they could. These include: seeking help, taking medication, reading self-help books, self-care, breathing techniques, interact and observe the natural world around you, observe children and how they act, create small goals to work towards and acknowledge them when you accomplish them, do something physical like exercise, try something new especially if it’s social Mental challenges affect everyone in their lives, it’s not a disease that afflicts people that aren’t able to cope with life. Medication was a stepping-stone for a period of my life and got me to the point where I could deal with things on my own, but they weren’t a long term fix for me. Putting a good diet in place is important, but this is something you need to work out for yourself as we all require and react differently with certain foods in unique ways. We’re so inundated with media and sensation from computers, mobile phones and TV, it’s incessant. If we become a slave to it it’s not useful. Go for a walk and notice nature and what it does with what it’s given, not to understand it, just to observe it. BEST MOMENTS ‘I wasn’t particularly happy as a teenager and when I graduated from college I didn’t have any direction or sense of what I wanted to do. So I delivered pizza, which was a great use of a four-year degree!’ ‘I was drinking a bottle of vodka a night to stop the pain. I knew it wasn’t right, but it felt like the way to stop whatever pain I was going through.’ ‘The first step I took was asking for help. There still is a stigma attached to depression, but mental health and well-being is more recognised as important for everyone.’ ‘Serotonin is depleted during depression. Medication can help with that initially. But after a while it made me feel fuzzy’ ‘Everybody is individual, so unless someone knows you and have worked with you, self-help books don’t know what you’re going through, they deal with statistics. So, be wary of that.’ ‘A master-craftsman needs to take steps from apprenticeship for a number of years before becoming a journeyman where they practice their craft while still learning before becoming a master and then a mentor where they begin to share their wisdom on whatever subject. This applies to life too.’ ‘Breathing is the simplest way of dealing with sadness and depression, because we can concentrate on it and that gives us space and a moment to literally take a breath.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE HOST Taylor Roark is the founder of Galliant Trainings, which guides and facilitates individuals and organisations in Creative Purpose. This week's adventure is taken in the company of Alice Mabin, who slipped into a coma after falling from a horse at the age of 15. Miraculously, she suffered no long-term damage and rebuilt her life. Eventually, she became restless and quit her secure job to photograph agriculture and transport, including the world’s largest cattle drive where 18,000 head of cattle travelled 2,500 kilometres, to explain the way these two industries affect and are integral to our day-to-day lives. Alice has since published four books containing 5,000 images. KEY TAKEAWAYS Recovering from a near fatal accident when she was young has inspired Alice Mabin to get out there and experience life to the fullest. She resigned her job and decided to travel the world as a photographer and has now published four books. If we could bring the non-judgemental side of Africa back to more populated cultures like Australia or London, and that appreciation and respect for nature and wildlife, the world would be a much better place. Work around creative consciousness and bringing awareness to where you are in life and choosing and deciding what’s possible for you and actually going for it. One of the things about magic is you take action, it doesn’t have to be ‘in two days I’m leaving for Africa’, it could be ‘I’m going to get my roof re-done’. It’s about seeing an opportunity and taking action when it’s there, not procrastinating. However, it’s about taking the right action for you too. Your purpose doesn’t have to be a massive, unattainable thing. Look at what you’re doing right now, where do your interests lie and where are you frustrated? You’re probably only a few degrees off of where your truth is. BEST MOMENTS ‘We’re now getting to the stage where the word entrepreneur is really well received, I’m an entrepreneur and I’ll take on anything!’ ‘That wasn’t my time and I’m going to do everything I can while I’m here.’ ‘People are just generous and open and have a liveliness about them. Let’s live.’ ‘What I’m learning is that if I stay open there are an infinite number of connections available and if I choose the one I want to follow, you learn what’s true for you and that can open more doors.’ ‘Don’t be scared to make contact with people we’ve put on pedestals, they’re just humans too.’ ‘There’s a time to take action and a time to take stock of things.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Alice Mabin reveals her soul through the eye of the lens. With more than 5,000 spectacular images over four books, Alice’s images truly make you feel connected with agriculture and rural life. Her vision is to unite and positively bridge the gap of knowledge and understanding in agriculture and transport; two industries integral to our lives. Alice’s signature style translates into an unforgettable presentation and seems inconceivable to most people. From spending time in a coma and rebuilding her life, then leaving a secure career to follow Australia’s last long-distance cattle drive for nine months, to being hit by a truck and then hitchhiking around Australia to learn about the transport industry and how it impacts our lives. In her most recent endeavor, she spent 12 months working with over 500 farmers across Australia to capture the heartbeat and roots of the agriculture industry. Hear Alice’s incredible journey and what makes her successful in pursuing a business in a saturated market. In addition to four photographic books, Alice has written “The Winding Road,” an autobiography of her amazing and adventurous life. This week's adventure is taken in the company of Ryan Nurse, who was attacked after leaving a nightclub nine years ago, slipping into a coma and suffering traumatic brain injury that doctors said he was lucky to have survived. However, Ryan came round and although he’s fought and won a battle with depression since, he’s using that energy to spread the word about the power of positive thought and how being present is a powerful thing. KEY TAKEAWAYS The world we live in is travelling at 100 mph, it’s worth stopping, looking around, being present and assessing if you’re on the correct path or if there’s something you could change for the positive. Some people are focussed on an idealised past that they want to get back to, or regret things they didn’t do and wished they had, and this negatively affects their present. Ryan survived a brutal attack outside a nightclub which put him in a coma, he’s been described as a walking miracle by the doctors who treated him and were preparing to turn off his life support system. Having an out of body experience changed the way he saw himself and made him realise there was a reason he regained consciousness and that is to help other people through a similar journey. Think of your life as a movie, there’s always adversity for the main character. Hidden at the core of adversity is the key to progression and life-long happiness. It’s not easy to find it, but once you’ve obtained it it will unlock the barrier to your next level of life. Adversity is a gift if we choose to let it be. BEST MOMENTS ‘With anything in life, it’s about joining together with people, you can only go so far on your own.’ ‘Sometimes it’s good to take a step back and take it all in, pause or meditate.’ ‘We’re always looking back instead of moving forward. Progression equals happiness so be present and focus on the steps in front of you.’ ‘The opportunity to be in the present moment gives you an enormous amount of freedom because I’m outside the tyranny of my mind.’ ‘People always regret the inactions rather than the actions they take, I’d rather try and fail than fail to even try.’ ‘I can only imagine what my parents when through in the situation they were in when they were asked if the doctors should switch of my life support system.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Ryan Nurse is a traumatic brain injury survivor and thriver who has also suffered from and overcome depression after a relationship breakup. This week's adventure is taken in the company of Jim Shoopack, a man who came through an extraordinary ordeal in 2001, when a severe period of depression left him clinging to life by the fingertips. Jim came through on the other side, and he's here today to discuss the reasons why life is always worth living, and how fellow sufferers can begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel. KEY TAKEAWAYS Depression turns us into a person we do not recognise. It strips away the things that make us who we are, and replaces them with a shadowy stranger. The pain of depression has become so unfortunately common in today's world, that the treatment of it has become normalised, and in some cases, dismissed. The stigmatisation around depression has led to an almost refusal to bring int out into the open, thereby meaning that many people misunderstand the sufferers, and how best to interact and communicate with them. Jim channelled the feelings of going through depression - the exhaustion and fatigue brought on by such a struggle - into a new endeavour to complete 100 marathons. BEST MOMENTS 'Just putting two feet on the ground was the biggest accomplishment of my entire day' 'Every second felt like an hour. Every hour felt like ten days. I hoped to just get to the night' 'There is a stigma. People ask why you can't just get over it? Why did you choose it?' 'If I don't take care of what I need, then I can't help other people' 'It's quite simple, but simple things can be very impactful' 'A lot of time in my marathon work, it's about looking up above, and admiring what is in front of me' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Jim Shoopack was born and raised in the Pocono Mountains of Eastern Pennsylvania of the United States. Located approximately 75 miles west from downtown Manhattan in New York City, Shoopack has lived in the Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg area his entire life. For the past 14 years he has been a Middle School Spanish teacher and also a Soccer Coach at both the High School and Middle School level at the school district where he teaches. In 2020, he celebrated his 10-year wedding anniversary to his wife Shannah, with whom they have three dogs – Snitches, Sadie and Stewart, and a cat, Doody. In September of 2020 he earned his Doctorate in Education (EdD) in Educational Leadership and Management from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Shoopack’s story of looking to inspire began in February – May of 2001, when for approximately 100 days he suffered all of the symptoms of depression. It is miraculous that he didn't take his own life. Through prayer, an eventually an out-of-body experience and help from a friend who suffered from clinical depression and advised him to get help, Shoopack went to his Primary Care Physician (PCP) and through a collaborative plan, progress was made through talk therapy, medication, and then exercise. He started to walk short distances with his dog (it was really more him walking Shoopack than the other way around), until finally, he started to jog a mile. This slowly became 3-5 miles, which became training for a marathon. This week, Taylor shares an adventure into the life and work of Elina Grigoriou, a wellbeing and sustainability expert, who uses interior design to create wellbeing, centred around a human-centric approach. Elina discusses the aims and values she holds at the centre of her creative endeavours, and why sustainability must be at the heart of society going forward. KEY TAKEAWAYS Colour is incredibly powerful when it comes to space, and people's behaviour, as it can impact both in terms of light, energy and personality. Designers the world over are finally entering the design space with a clearer, and more defined mission - because they care about people's lives, and because they care about the spaces they are creating, and the effect it will have. The job of a designer is to take the many elements that fit with a client's aesthetic - assembling the many pieces that attract their eye and provide comfort for the mind, body and emotions - and bring these together to create a unique space. We are creatures of convenience, who have constantly sought ways of streamlining and facilitating, but we are overusing this ethos now, creating a more sterile world built upon process, and far less human. BEST MOMENTS 'Primary colours are used specifically, to match a person's style, if they have a particular type of personality' 'High contrast creates a lot of movement' 'Be kind to ourselves, to our ego, and then be stronger because of it' '80% - 90% of lives are spent inside, and so these spaces are constantly affecting the way we live and feel' 'Interiors must support the comfort of emotions, of the mind, and of the body' 'The facilitation process of breaking down what it is they're after, actually creates that awareness of that dynamic relationship they need to have' 'We've become a species where a button on a phone changes everything' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Elina Grigoriou is a London-based Interior Designer, Sustainability and Wellbeing Expert. This week, Taylor takes an adventure with author Akello Stone, renowned for his book ‘Seeking Selfdom In The Age Of Selfies’, for an engaging discussion taking in everything from the meaning of compassion, the incremental ways in which our emotional blueprint is always being shaped, and the importance of reflecting on the people in our lives. KEY TAKEAWAYS Compassion for others begins with finding compassion for ourselves. It begins the process of allowing us to truly forgive. We do things sometimes in order to earn something in return. This is known as the delusional reward expectation cycle. We have been learning since birth, whether consciously or not. Even our emotional states are being developed from the start. Our unique emotional blueprint is always evolving. It’s worth realigning your sensibilities, beliefs and values with those in our centre of gravity. People change. We lose them from time to time. We should stop and reflect on the symmetry between us and those who remain. BEST MOMENTS 'Adventure can be anything. It can be a conversation. It can be climbing a mountain. Being in a relationship. It can all be an adventure’ ‘I’ve had compassion for the experience that they’ve had, that caused them to displace that onto me’ ‘We have to learn to create new grooves within our records in order to change that conversation’ ‘Negative sanctions tend to predominate more’ ‘I clean out the closet of my mind without being judgmental, and just let it flow’ ‘You have friendships that last decades, but we need to ask “What do we have in common now?”’ ‘I strive for minimalism, but it doesn’t mean I have nothing’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Akello Stone, Author of Seeking Selfdom in the Age of Selfies, is an explorer of life who has worn, and continues to wear many hats. He is fascinated by human behavior & the formation and navigation of Identities, New and Emerging Technologies, The Power of Interpersonal Communication, The Wonders of Nature, Immense Architecture, Eastern Philosophies, Health & Wellness, and Video Production. His end goal is to bring all of these different pieces of "him and his interests" together into one cohesive product that he can share with the world. #convergenceAkello is not motivated by money, material gain, or fame—but instead, what motivates him is putting in the self-work necessary to reach his own, unique, yet unrealized potential. He feels everyone has vast amounts of untapped potential and being to help them find it, cultivate it, and capitalize upon it is what truly drives him forward. This week, Taylor takes an adventure with "The CEO Confidant", Angel Ribo, about learning to speak from the heart, how perspectives and experience can affect our reactions to any situation, and how to harness the power of thought in order to reach a state of happiness and bliss. KEY TAKEAWAYS Depending on when we were born, or what we have experienced in life, our perceptions and reactions to any given experience can be greatly impacted. By looking for the meanings in any moment, by refining each experience down to tis essence, we create understanding. We have the opportunity to tune into something more than our mere senses. The question then becomes, how do we achieve this? If we can create a small space between ourselves and our thoughts, it can feel overwhelming, but we come to realise that everything is possible until we prove otherwise. BEST MOMENTS 'We teach people how to listen and speak with their hearts' 'We tend to put everything in boxes, in order to feel comfortable' 'We are all energy and we see each other because we vibrating at a similar energy' 'If you can imagine something then it is possible. It's not impossible until you prove its impossible' 'It's fascinating how as human beings we are so much ready to meditate' 'What we're saying is so important. It's not about going outside. This week, Taylor embarks upon an adventure in the company of writer, Dan McCrory, about his journey through life in the company of words - the power of words themselves, and their impact upon life and history, how technology and automation are causing a rapid evolution in the world as we know it, and the impact of the class system and the way it is shifting across the planet. KEY TAKEAWAYS We as humans, and fellow travellers through life, find ourselves connected not by the outward filters that society puts upon us, but the deeper-rooted beliefs and values we hold dear internally. We have developed automation as a tool to make life easier for ourselves, but it has not necessarily been a good thing for society. It has meant the reduction of certain job sectors and skills that in many ways, improved the lives of others. There seems to be a race to the bottom when it comes to countries trying to establish industries. Instead, the better solution would be for specific industries to lock to specific countries. We expect the next generation of the world to evolve in terms of clarity and mental skills, and yet our governments do not seem to wish to invest the necessary funding in securing that future. BEST MOMENTS 'I find myself really moving towards the things that connect us - the things we do find quite magically sometimes' 'I realised just how much of what I went through is still relevant to the next generation' 'Technology is going to change the basic conversation' 'There's a vanishing middle-class in the US and UK, but there's also a burgeoning, growing one in places like China' 'There is an inequity in what a school in the inner city will give as far as funds, as opposed to a school in the suburbs, and we need to even that out' 'People are hoarders and that's a very natural human trait. The way we deal with it is to have robust oversight' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self To attend the Creative Masculinity seminar, and to receive the early bird discount, or for more information, go to www.galliant.life/creative-masculinity ABOUT THE GUEST Dan McCrory has done every kind of writing imaginable: advertising, public relations, stories, magazine, articles and books. This week, Taylor takes an adventure with Charles Collins, to talk about the stages and phases that we move through in order to create the masterpiece of our own lives, the opposing energies that bring balance to life and the universe, how we can create the masterpiece that is our own life, and leave behind a legacy for future generations. KEY TAKEAWAYS It's important that within the four phases of apprenticeship, journey work, masterwork and mentorship, we are always learning new topics and improving skills. Every craft, including life, has a series of stages that we pass through on our way to mastery. Every craft has a body of knowledge (what to learn). Many spiritual and mystical schools teach that there is a balance between forces of energies in the world (yin yang for instance), and that they are exact compliments to each other. We cannot have one without the other. What we have received, and what we are passing on to the future generations is our own immortality. This contribution will perhaps become anonymous to those beyond us, but it is still invaluable. BEST MOMENTS 'It's important to understand the context of moving through apprenticeship, to journey work, to masterwork, on to mentorship' 'In any event all of those collectively go into creating us - the unique masterpiece of our own lives - if we are the craftsperson of our own lives' 'It's a guide, but it also at the same time an organising structure' 'In spiritual traditions there's a great understanding that there is always a tension between chaos and order' 'At some point, you and I will cease to be, and it's what we create going forward. We are creating, even incrementally, a family heritage' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self To register for the Creative Masculinity webinar go to www.galliant.life/creative-masculinity ABOUT THE GUEST Charles Collins is the best-selling author of the LifeCraft book series (available on Amazon), producer of the companion Making A Masterpiece of Your Life audio collection (available on Apple Podcasts), and Publisher of Life Masterpiece Journal (available on Medium). Charles' work demonstrates how anyone can learn to practice 'Life-as-a-Craft' to achieve extraordinary results. This week, Taylor takes an adventure alongside Tracy Lamourie, founder of Lamourie Media, and author of upcoming book, 'Get Repped - Build Your Brand with Effective Public and Media Relations'. Tracy joins the conversation to talk about her career and the ways in which she has helped others to find their voice and build their brand, and delivers a valuable lesson on how you can best present yourself to the world. KEY TAKEAWAYS Fulfilment in our careers is found when we enjoy the challenges we face there. If we find our wits and our skills tested, then it can make a career far more exciting. Helping others to find their voice, and raising them up to be our successors in the world, is the act of recognising our own place first, and then looking for the willingness in others to step into that role. Public relations tends to have a more negative connotation - as though it is somehow cleaning up a mess or mistake that someone has made. And yet, the role of PR is a positive, empowering one. Media relations are not only there to skew perceptions. They are there to rehabilitate the reputations of those who perhaps have been unfairly maligned. It is the art of changing minds and hearts. You can learn far more from just doing something, than you can from theorising and planning forever. BEST MOMENTS 'No two days are the same - there's no such thing as boring' 'Even though we all have different stories, different paths, different things we looking to create, there is some nugget of truth and similarity between the humanity we all have' 'People can elevate themselves - they can become thought leaders and get their message out. This week, Taylor talks to movement and life coach, Phil Hulford, about the importance of presence, and why the present is so precious, the power of acknowledging fear, and how we can use movement itself to generate the energy that anchors us to a moment. KEY TAKEAWAYS To make the most of where we're at, it's incredibly important to be aware of how present we are and enjoy the now. We need to shake away the cares of the past, and release our minds from thinking about the future. Be present whenever possible. The first step in conquering fear is to acknowledge it, and to recognise that it moves with us throughout each day. If we can identify it, then we can separate from it. Movement is our own way of physically connecting to a moment - it is the generating of energy that establishes us in the here and now. Society seems to have created the notion that men must always push harder in order to grow and develop. We must recalibrate sometimes, which requires us to stop and appreciate. BEST MOMENTS 'Presence is something that I'm learning to cultivate, as everybody is. It's an ongoing thing because it's always "now"' 'Part of who I am is to explore movement as a way to heal the body - as a way to recirculate and recycle energy so that we don't waste it, but use it as a way to charge. And also to connect' 'You've got to know how to work hard and you've got to be willing to get yourself to do things that you don't want to do sometimes. But there's a very real balance to be found between the yin and yang - between the relaxing, the resting and the pushing' 'If you watch children, when they see a wall they'll jump straight on it and walk. Or they'll see physical challenges and just do them. They don't have to be taught. They just enjoy the exploration' 'In my work, in my life, I can get very outside of where I am and think about all the things I didn't do, or all the things I want to do' 'It's very important to have someone you're accountable to for all things. Your goals, your relationship' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Phil Hulford is a performer as well as a life/health coach. This week, Taylor talks to "modern day alchemist", Karen Darke, a learning and development, mind-set and heart-set coach, who specialises in helping others to find their "inner gold". Karen talks about the concept of inner gold and what it means to her, and how dedication, hard work and a positive mind-set can lead us to any form of success we can dream of. KEY TAKEAWAYS Sometimes we limit ourselves, mentally, far too much. When we have passion, and are dedicated to working hard, there really are no limits to what we can achieve. We can never get anywhere in life unless we begin the journey. The first step to achieving success is to start moving towards it. Goals that seem unreachable can push us to bettering ourselves. Challenge shows us what we're truly capable of. Synchronicity and serendipity come as a result of mental and spiritual focus. Manifestation is the result of this focus. BEST MOMENTS 'Everything centres around gold' 'It's much more fun to dig holes in the earth than other people' 'Moves are energy' 'What you dream or dream you can, begin it' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Karen could be described as a modern-day ‘Alchemist’: a learning & development specialist turned mindset-heartset coach, explorer, athlete, speaker and author, Karen’s purpose is about helping individuals and organisations ‘Find Inner Gold’: turning challenge into opportunity, turning ‘mud’ into ‘gold’. Karen started out as a geologist researching gold in the Bolivian Andes, but a life-changing accident that left her paralysed led her away from being a ‘rock-doctor’ to winning Paralympic gold in the sport of Paralympic hand-cycling in Rio 2016. It was the 79th medal for Britain, and 79 being the elemental number for Gold led to Karen creating Quest 79. The project has Karen cycling 7 continents in 9 iconic rides, raising £79K for Spinal Injuries and encouraging many people to step out of their comfort zones and discover passion, purpose, strength and other aspects of their ‘inner gold.’ She is a Guinness World Record holder for landspeed by armpower, has skied across icecaps, kayaked at extreme latitudes of the planet, and hand-cycled across the world’s biggest mountain ranges and alongside some of the longest rivers. These experiences combined with unique studies of mind, resilience and performance have led to helping people view life as an adventure, and to embrace all its experiences as opportunities to learn and grow. Karen has extensively studied what goes on ‘inside’: the power of the mind and language to positively impact emotions; improving presence, performance and wellbeing. In this week's adventures, Taylor talks to Danny Levin, author and visionary of the book 'The Mosaic', about the ways in which humanity and society connect through energy, and how the world can come together in beautiful ways if we truly listen to each other. KEY TAKEAWAYS Ultimately, we will become one self, and the other selves we have inhabited during our journey through life will become the fondly remembered pieces of a person we once were. When we can walk into a conversation with no agenda, and truly listen to what others are saying, and when we can embrace another person despite differing opinions or belief, we achieve true love. Most of the problems in the world could be completely resolved if we could only learn how to listen to each other. Our minds search constantly for the formula to life, but our hearts are happy to experience each moment as though newborn. BEST MOMENTS 'Everything I'm experiencing right now is that there's one beautiful self' 'It's this beautiful feeling of love' 'I don't love them for what they believe - I love them for who they are' 'Hidden in the voices of those who disagree with us are the things that we can't see' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self The Mosaic by Daniel B Levin (Amazon) Daniel Levin - https://danielbrucelevin.com ABOUT THE GUEST Danny Levin walked away from an opportunity to run a billion dollar business, to hitchhike around the world to find happiness and inner peace. This week, Taylor chats with inspirational coach, Dan Warburton, the author of best-seller, 'Dream It, Choose It, Live It', about the ways in which we can embrace life's mission, ensure that we are travelling along the correct path, and ultimately live the dream. KEY TAKEAWAYS Sometimes we spend so long looking for the missing component in our lives, but fail to recognise that it is ourselves that we're not happy with. Success is a matter of belief. If you think you can't you will prove that to yourself. If you think you can, the opportunities will seem more obvious. It is up to us to be responsible for our path. It is us to us to transform when it is needed. No one ever achieved greatness by relaxing and apportioning blame. Transformation begins on an internal level, but cannot truly be at its most effective until we externalise it and take it out into the world. BEST MOMENTS 'I realised that I am responsible for everything in my life' 'Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right' 'Ultimate responsibility is ultimate power' 'This enables us to achieve things that are simply miraculous to what we've known ourselves to be able to do before' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Dan Warburton has now coached over 1,000 entrepreneurs and is known for enabling entrepreneurs to break through their limitations and be able to access a totally new and inspirational future often after having only one coaching conversation with him. In this week's show, Taylor talks to Lindsay Bouvier, a life and branding coach, about the ways in which she helps people and individuals to recognise the unique gifts they possess in order to create bespoke and personal offerings, and to help big ideas to make their way into the world. KEY TAKEAWAYS The people who resonate with the things we have to offer are not always the ones we expect in our lives. Sometimes ideas connect in the most unfamiliar places. Whether we know it or not, we are already projecting a brand of some kind. It is about making that brand work for us in an intentional way. We must decide on the story we have to tell, and how we can tell it in our own unique way. We must seek to find our "why", and do it authentically. When we start to receive negative feedback in some form, it's actually a sign that our success is growing. It signifies that our reach is extending. BEST MOMENTS 'I'm interested in individuals stepping into their truth' 'Every single human being is now a brand' 'In order to be of service to the people you want to be in service to, you have to let them know what you have to offer' 'You haven't made it till you have a hater' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Lindsay Bouvier is a life & brand coach helping creatives step into their true expression, put themselves out there & grow their one-of-a-kind brand. In this week's show, Taylor talks to husband, father, motivational speaker, cancer survivor and fellow podcast host, Réal Andrews, host and producer of Getting Real With Réal. Réal talks about the connective power of listening, how we can empower others through empowering ourselves, and the power of steeping outside of your comfort zone. KEY TAKEAWAYS Our jobs do not define who we are. Far too often, we see people through the filter of the role they perform, or the career they choose, but we must see the human first. People are, and always have been, more insular than we like to admit. This is why listening is so important a sense to embrace. It allows us to reconnect with humanity without having to be present in other ways. So many of us have things we deal with in private, but are left lost by the influence of social media, which encourages perfection without flaws. We need to surround ourselves with people who can raise us up and show us the beauty of life. We need to be made to feel as though we mater by others, and to pay this feeling forward to others in need. BEST MOMENTS 'I always come from a place of love' 'It's reconnecting us through one of our senses' 'I'm really about service. I've had an incredible life' 'It's the saddest thing in the world, to go through your entire life thinking you don't matter' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self ABOUT THE GUEST Réal Andrews has gone from broke mind, body and spirit (living paycheck to paycheck) to a 7-figure income earner. This week we take the energy of a Zen warrior off the battlefield and into your life, by learning how to welcome, cultivate and move through the death of your ego and into a much broader experience of life, through pure awareness. This is an opportunity to move past the biological impulse, or fear, or assumption that doing something outside our comfort zone is going to kill us. Listening to the voice that speaks fear is not a bad thing, but it is not the only thing. Ultimately, we discuss the regenerative mindset and then create it as an opportunity in real time by being in the unknown of conversation, riding a wave, letting it crash and allowing space for a new wave to be born. KEY MOMENTS “The true warrior is one who has shed all of the story and they're just there in the present moment.” “So I became very intrigued in what life does to us that creates that psychological construct of protecting oneself from the whole, the greater existence.” “Everything is equally important because everything is related to our presence and how much consciousness we can bring to what we're doing, how present we can be with what we're doing.” “I think that those things work beautifully together when we can really learn to be receptive and directed at the same time, because that really is presence. Presence is receptivity.” “It's acknowledging the person over the particular opinion or belief that they have in that moment.” “We're on an adventure here! We're going to see where we improvise our way, through being present with each other and through active listening and feeling the energy versus coming from an analytical place of what else.” VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Sam Morris is the founder of Zen Warrior Training®, an enlightened leadership and embodied wisdom coaching program. It turns out that accountants and aardvarks are not the same beast. And that trying to square the two leads you to the alchemy of possibility. You can never quite shed the accountant and there’s numbers weaving their way throughout this week’s conversation. From the one of oneness to the duality and polarity of being human, we can connect back to the oneness we have forgotten through a third, higher dimension – Grace. Confused? That’s just your personality, your personal story, and it is only one orientation in life. The other option is not that. It is oneness – the silent space of the everything and the nothing. Dive in to the infinite possibilities that are available and awaken the freedom to choose what you would love. KEY MOMENTS “Personality is really a definition of all the things that we are not in our true nature.” “The problem with oneness is that it’s so effing ineffable.” “The duality is the human and the being. It’s the experience that we’re having and the personal stories and persona and personality that we create around that, contrasted to that remembering of oneness. We are always connected to oneness but we forget.” “For and against is a polarity. We can live our lives thinking that we’re being good because we’re for something.” “What would your human love to create? It’s not in any of the personality forms. It’s not a getting away from some perceived absence or some perceived lack, or whatever it is.” “You make it all up, so just make up what you would love. Make it up in a way that would serve you and your soul.” VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Stuart Kerslake – Intuition and Awareness Coach An ex-accountant and modern-day alchemist, he helps business owners and those aspiring to be one, gain real clarity on what you would love to create in your life, and how the business will serve that. Based on the powerful methods and tools in the Natural Success and Core Process models, he guides people to awareness of your Ego (so that you can lessen its grip), acknowledgment of your Grace (and the things you’d love to create from that space), and connection to your Intuition, as the bridge to that creation. www.stuartkerslake.com https://www.linkedin.com/in/stuartkerslake/ https://www.facebook.com/Stuart-Kerslake-Intuition-and-Awareness-Coach-328470911823840 https://www.instagram.com/stuartkerslake/ https://www.facebook.com/StuartKerslake/ ABOUT THE HOST Taylor Roark is the founder of Galliant Trainings, which guides and facilitates individuals and organisations in Creative Purpose. Our episode this week takes a circular route, literally and figuratively, by discussing variations on Round House design using natural building materials. The conversation follows the arc of the circle in buildings and in life to dive into the discovery of who you are and what you create in this world. Round buildings are a welcome departure from the normal squared off, right-angle constructions we are used to. Our guest focuses on building round buildings with a Reciprocal Frame roof, which requires no central support and has been used since the 12th century in Chinese and Japanese architecture. The self-supporting nature of these structures and the nature of how they are built act as a metaphor for the communities that build them and use them. KEY MOMENTS “I want people to be able to gather together to explore what life means in spaces which offers a connection to the natural world and an inspiration in a different way.” “There’s so much of the way that our thinking is which is to do with things being linear, things being square. And actually the more connected to oneself and to the natural world one becomes, the more things start showing up as cyclical and circular and non-linear.” “I had absolutely no idea where I was going. I had absolutely no idea what I was going to end up doing. I had a really strong, heartfelt desire that propelled me in a particular direction.” “So we’ve got a trajectory but when the people turn up as individuals, they’re bringing what they’re bringing. And some of the best features of some of the buildings we’ve done come out of that.” “People come because the magic has been spun and that attracts. And that’s why following something from your heart works. It’s not because you’ve worked out a way to make it work.” VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Wholewoods builds natural spaces for charities, community groups, trusts, schools and public organisations, also offering training and consultancy for self-build or community engagement. The Roundhouses we build feature a Reciprocal Frame roof, which requires no central support. This episode goes deep – into the ground and into your soul. Death is a part of life and we are being reminded of that fact now more than ever! And yet, without death, there is no life. Death is an essential part of Nature. What if we learned to celebrate death and those we lose through death by creating life from it? Our guest this week is creating forests instead of graveyards by using science and technology to turn people’s remains into fodder for growing trees. Based on profound and metaphoric magic, we can connect to the beauty that someone’s life created rather than focus on what is lost. KEY MOMENTS “We turn people into trees instead of cemeteries. So instead of creating graveyards, we turn people into trees and those trees create profoundly beautiful forests.” “Symbolically, if you think that you’re separate from nature and the ecosystem that co-existed you and everything in it, it’s not dissimilar to thinking that you’re separate from reality.” “Death is the most important part of Nature. Without death, there’s no regeneration. There’s no Nature.” “I think by becoming an integral part of the circle of life we can restore our relationship to Nature. We can restore our relationship to ourselves.” “People have become so possessed by the idea of owning things and consuming things that they’re no longer in possession of their own soul.” “If you connect to what you lost, it’s so much easier to continue to experience grief and pain and heartache. But when you connect to the beauty that someone’s life created, it gives you a completely different experience.” “You’ve got to go through the creative process. There’s an act of destruction in the creative process. You had to destroy your idea of who you are to become what you’re going to be.” VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST Warren Roberts is the founder of Living Legacy Forest, a national company that turns people into trees instead of tombstones and has created forests all around Australia. Our guest talks about working in national health care and policy, starting a YouTube channel and starring in an online reality dating show. This episode runs through Kirsty’s life of different and disparate interests and how she is learning to integrate rather than separate them, all in her search to bring light into the world by combining comedy and consciousness. KEY MOMENTS “This all came from leaning into my fear. I had so much resistance.” “Even though my thought process was like, ‘Oh my god. What am I doing? You’re crazy.’ I was driven by something inside of me that was like, ‘No, this is so important for your growth.’” “I’d felt so stifled in my creative expression for so long because I felt like I needed to be a certain way to be liked or loved and to survive.” “There’s nothing to fix, there’s nothing to overcome. It’s about allowing and allowing it all. And then choosing where to put your focus.” “Sometimes the content that I share is hard to watch or it’s hard to digest in that it’s so relatable. It’s like, ‘Oh man, I see myself in that.’ Or, ‘I do that.’ And that can be uncomfortable.” “Comedy and music are the two most powerful ways to communicate a message because they’re disarming.” “Such a great thing to remember is that on this adventure, you never know the next door that’s going to open up.” VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self ABOUT THE GUEST According to her Primary School Certificate of Recognition, Kirsty is “a No. 1 public speaker, an actress extraordinaire, poet of note, has a wonderful sense of humour and conducts school assemblies with confidence.” A creator, adventurer and life enthusiast, Kirsty then took a more traditional route and ended up with an honours degree in health and behavioural science.
