The director of "Porky's" may seem an unlikely choice for a holiday slice of 1940's life, but in 1983, it worked. Bob Clark's "A Christmas Story" would be destined for success, sequels, and cable TV marathons thanks to its charming cast and oh-so-quotable script based on the writing of Jean Shepherd. But now, decades later, does the umpteenth viewing make us want to shoot our eyes out? Is Raphie adorable or a gun-toting terror? And is there more to The Old Man than just yelling? The Old Roommates grab two mugs of Ovaltine and revisit the holiday classic through a middle-aged lens. Listen to this.Old Roommates can be reached via email at oldroommatespod@gmail.com. Every January, the Deucecast trio jumps into ReFlicktions after what is likely a 6-7 week break from ReFlickting movies... and that means a mondo sized ReFlicktions episode - but for your listening pleasure... ...and because not only is Mikey leaving town for the weekend, but d$ has weekend commitments as well, the 2.5 hour episode is now going to be 2 episodes! First... the last vestiges of Christmas cinema, with horror Santas and returns to Indiana and Dickens and England. Then, diving into the non-holiday stuff, #TwitterlessDrEarl gets pretentions with Inerratu and classic with Bing... d$ discusses the controversy on Strange World... Mikey hates Criminals named Emily but loves blue Na'vi... and a movie that we all forgot - Memory. Check out the films we discussed on the episode (and where they are streaming) and come back next week for the likes of Glass Onion, new Baumbach, Will Smith's new slave epic, Brendan Fraser's comeback and a long discussion on the merits (and debauchery) of Babylon. On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are begging with everything we've got for an official Red Ryder, carbine action, 200-shot, range model air rifle, with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time. We watched the 1983 film from Bob Clark, A Christmas Story. We want that air rifle sooo bad, we can't even tell you. And no, we won't shoot our eyes out. That's probably just a myth that someone's mom started because they didn't want to buy their kid the best toy ever made.We should take a page out of Ralphie's book. We'll start leaving hints around the house, accidentally blurting out our desires, and writing surely phenomenal school reports about what we want for Christmas. It's a foolproof plan!If it can work for Ralphie, then it can work for us, dagnabbit! We've got to get going now. There are plans to be hatched and holiday dreams to be had. Another year is hitting the final stretches, as Christmas looms... but to end the year, there must be a final reckoning... er, a final ReFlicktions. MASSIVE INSANELY HUGE SPOILER WARNINGHappy Belated Thanksgiving! It sure is nice to see a legacy sequel that doesn't make you want to shoot your eye out. Today Alec and Justin discuss A Christmas Story Christmas, the long awaited sequel to 1983's A Christmas Story. Nothing will ever top the original and how could it, but this is still a fun movie and cool to see some of our favorite characters return as adults in the 1970's. We've also covered A Christmas Story (1983) in episode #37 if you want to listen in order. Enjoy!
It's turkey time, y'all, and we're talking about the ultimate Thanksgiving menu; the Macy's parade; the origin of Black Friday; Taylor Swift and the Ticketmaster debacle; Ranch on a Branch is a thing; CNN wants to downplay the alcohol on NYE; two famous movie houses are for sale; Mariah is NOT the Queen of Christmas; “The White Lotus” might be going to Japan next; dumb ol' Kayne West announces 2024 presidential bid; Justin Bieber loses a ton on his NFT; and, lots more pop culture silliness.

When the summer began in June, Hoosier History Live explored offbeat aspects of the corner of the state often called "The Region". Now that the season is drawing to a close, we will return to Northwest Indiana to delve into a wealth of other sites, existing and bygone, including some in Hammond, one of the largest cities in The Region. Our spotlight will be on one of the tallest of the Indiana Dunes, which was the site of a near-tragedy in 2013; shipwrecks beneath Lake Michigan, and a beloved, bygone department store with a connection to a classic movie. In fact, we will salute another site (a quirky one) in Hammond that pays tribute to the city's link to "A Christmas Story" (1983), the movie based on the writings of Jean Shepherd, who grew up in the city.

Merry Christmas! TIHI will be taking a two week vacation during the holidays to get our lives together, but we would like to share our new favorite drinking game with you in this special holiday bonus episode. We have ten Christmas movies that we have to guess using anywhere from one word to one sentence. If you want to play at home - don't script it - use random movies. Sit back with the egg nog (ew), kick up your feet amidst the sea of wrapping paper, and relax. You did it. Merry Christmas, Happy Yule, God speed - only one week left in 2021. We'll see y'all on the flip side.

In this holiday ep, Lindsay and Halle change it up with their very first Are We Obsessed episode! That's right, Lindsay and Halle have never seen A Christmas Story... until now. It's time to figure out if they're obsessed. Between the leg lamp, rooting for a kid to get a very specific BB gun, and BME (Big Midwest Energy), there's a lot to weigh in on. Plus, stay for the end of the episode where Lindsay and Halle share their current obsessions: Survivor (Lindsay) and Cowboy Bebop (Halle). - Follow us on Instagram here. - Watch A Christmas Story on Apple+ here. - Check out Survivor on Hulu and Paramount Plus. - Check out Cowboy Bebop on Netflix here. Also, we recorded this episode early, so RIP to Cowboy Bebop. Read more about the cancellation here.
Okay, okay, it's time for a “real” holiday movie and Erika is here to provide! She chose 1983's A Christmas Story and let's face it...it's a classic! So come join us as we discuss triple dog dares, suspiciously red bars of soap and how odd it must be to sit on Santa's lap. Happy holidays!
"As he was stopped in front of the garage door, a voice said, “Come here.” Allen prayed to God someone was playing a trick on him. Even someone trespassing on his property would be better than something he didn't have an explanation for. He crept around the side of the garage and looked into the alley…The Dark Watchers are dark, shadowy entities that lurk in the shadows and haunt the Santa Lucia Mountains. Are they really there or are they simply an urban legend? Young couple Carlos and Julia find themselves coming face to face with the dark watchers when they get lost on a hike. The dark watchers don't seem to want to hurt them but they are getting aggressively close to Carlos and Julia. Julia makes an offering but will it be enough? Then Dan takes us to Wisconsin to hear the tale of the Tallman family. Like any young family on a budget, the Tallman parents are excited when they find a good deal on a set of used bunkbeds. Unfortunately, they will come to regret this purchase when they bring home more than they bargained for. The nightmares, the encounters, the disembodied voices can almost be explained away. It's the fires and the soot that have the Tallman's concerned. Will they make it out alive? Lynze has one, big, fat, juicy amazing tale this week! A life long following? Haunting? Shadow? What do you call it when you are pretty damn sure "you" have been following you around for the entirety of your life? A dopplegänger is supposedly a version of yourself that appears to you as an omen, a warning. However, there don't seem to be any rules about how long a dopplegänger might stick around before one might experience whatever it is they are there to warn you about. Lo, a longtime fan, has been dealing with her shadow friend for the majority of her life. It's been nearly impossible to find out what "She" wants. Or at least it seemed that way until her boyfriend passed away. Was that the entire purpose of "her" following Lo around? And if so, why is she STILL there?! If you listen to the episode, you may recognize the opening theme, the best time of the year, when the Deucecast Movie Show plays the official Christmas theme of the show. It truly is a Marshmallow World. Dave, Mikey, and #TwitterlessDrEarl are here once again to give out their annual Christmas gifts to the stars, and joining the show for the first time in the Christmas season, it's Spawn of Ryfun, Lil G himself Garrison Ryfun. First up, Birthday movies, with everything from Popeye to a previous Star War edition, then Garrison gives a little Christmas episode history of the Deucecast Movie Show (he has notes!) Then the guys begin to give out the gifts! Chris Nolan has a present to open. The tiny town of New Albanwick has a gift. AMC will get something under the tree. And for the first time, someone in the group gives their gifts to the others during the Top Five itself.

This week Heather and Jameson take on the best Christmas films of the 1980s: A Christmas Story (1983), National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989), Scrooged (1988), Die Hard (1988), and Gremlins (1984). Our favorite Gen Xperts celebrate the holiday season with a special message from the podcast’s favorite Canadian friend and a reading of Heather’s mom’s narration while watching Die Hard and Scrooged. Guest star Chuck Page (yes, Heather’s actual dad) takes over the “Listen to this Shit” segment this week with a charming story and warm wishes for the holiday season. Whatever you celebrate, Heather and Jameson hope your holiday season is festive and bright and ask you the eternal question, why is the carpet all wet?

It’s an Alt Right Libtards Christmas, as Ricky and DC get together to discuss the true “reason for the season”. For some reason, this involves DC explaining the details of his extremely religious wedding, and Ricky reminding us all that both he and Tony Soprano were raised Catholic. I record on computer through Audacity and output to a standalone PCM digital recorder. This provides two different forms of backup for the 'cast - Toby conceived this scheme and he did it right. We do have different equipment to do this and usually it's not a problem. I have a PC and a Zoom H2 - the previous three podcasts were done using this equipment. On the last podcast, I was getting this annoying clicking on the computer version so I just used the digital recording version - worked great! This time the roof fell in. The recorder I was using just died - it was supposed to be on AC but it thought it was on batteries so it died instantly after I started the recording and I didn't realize it until I looked and the recorder was dark. So the first five minutes of the podcast were lost on the digital recorder. Normally this would not be much of an issue but I could not get the PC and Audacity to go to stereo so my only source of stereo was the recorder - which was missing the first five minutes of the 'cast. I had the whole podcast on the computer in mono which is not great to edit because we split the mics left and right to be able to edit out issues easily. To add to the woes, although we've recorded at this venue in the past, this time the nearby airport must have been landing and launching F-16s and C-17s because every ten minutes or so you can hear this low rumble through the mics. Sigh... I've purchased a new (used) H5 and I will solve the Audacity problem by maybe going to Adobe Audition for the recording and editing. In any case I promise not to ever do this again. Maybe. Real talk...we've all been watching bits and pieces of A Christmas Story ever since TBS got the brilliant idea to play this movie for 24 damn hours straight. But when's the last time you actually sat down and watched it as a complete movie? Your faithful hosts are currently in the thick of the Holiday Haze, so they're gonna sit down and watch it for you! You know all the iconic moments: the leg lamp, the kid's tongue sticking to the frozen pole, "I can't put my arms down!" and of course..."You'll shoot your eye out!" You all know the story...red-blooded midwestern boy wants a gun for Christmas. It's got classic written all over it. So you know that you love the bits and pieces you catch on TV in between the kids whining over opening presents and your forth glass of Christmas morning zinfandel (just me?)...but do you still love this movie the way Ralphie loves that BB gun? Join us and find out! And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

Mark, Rick and Brian jump into the official start of summer with their "reviewsit" of Harry and the Hendersons. Rick & Brian come to the realization that they never saw the movie in full previously, Mark shares how the film helped inform his education of corsages and bleu cheese, and the lads wonder what exactly goes down in the Henderson basement behind closed doors. The lads also pitch ideas for a reboot that includes dog armies and hybrid humans, offer their own parental warnings that they feel were lacking for the movie and cast the missing role of "Grandma Henderson." You'll have a DEAR ol' time...or err DEER ol' time...listening to the calls of this wild episode! Oh I get it!

In aid of The Hunger Project, we present to you a mini Xmas special episode covering the comic strip 'A Christmas Story' from 1965's TV Comic. Cast Aid is a collective of podcasters helping to end world hunger through music (or something vaguely resembling it). Inspired by the efforts of Bob Geldoff and Midge Ure in the 1980′s, we’re creating a supergroup of podcasters creating alternate, geeky, and parody versions of classic Holiday tunes. All these tracks are available for free or donation. All proceeds will go to charity The Hunger Project, in the spirit of the original Band Aid’s message.
