Boomer has gifts for Gio and Jerry (I guess Al & Eddie are chopped liver). They are the new NHL jerseys made by Fanatics. The Mets beat the Yankees last night, 9-7 as Mark Vientos hit two home runs off Gerrit Cole. Gleyber Torres had another bad game at the plate and in the field. He blamed a groin injury, but he honestly looks disinterested. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the Mets beating the Yankees thanks to four home runs off Gerrit Cole. Sal Licata wants to ‘tickle' Juan Soto as a Mets fan. Hunter Green of the Reds vomited on the mound in the first inning. Tommy Lugauer took to Twitter after the Mets beat the Yankees. He also said, ‘this is why I'm the future, this is why I'm a generational talent'. Evan Roberts screamed about fans telling him about the Mikal Bridges trade while he was at the Mets game. Stephen A. Smith reacts to the Bridges trade. In the final segment of the hour, Gio wonders where Jay Wright is since Stephen Waldron at CBS promised him to us as a guest.

More stories from behind the curtain and this time with a focus on what happens when dancers are offstage. Told from a stage managers vantage point we hear that the organized beauty and grace an audience sees on stage is far from the whole picture. From illness and injury to unwanted animals and weather. The miracles behind making sure the show will go on are endless. Why would anyone deal with all these obstacles? Well as you'll hear its for the love of the art of live performance. Last month we met with Isis Howard to talk about western monarch populations and community science. Today, we are going to talk about monarchs east of the Rockies. From their overwintering sites to their multi-generational migration, and the stops along the way, we will take a deeper look at the journey of the monarch. To lead us on this discussion is Dr.Ray Moranz, Xerces Grazing Lands Pollinator Ecologist, Partner Biologist for the Natural Resources Conservation Service in the Central National Technology Support Center. Kate Kripke a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Perinatal Mental Health Counselor (PMH-C) in the state of Colorado. For over 20 years, Kate has focused her work on supporting the mental health of mothers as a therapist, coach, consultant, author, and speaker. She is the Founding Director of the Postpartum Wellness Center of Boulder, the author of the book Reinventing Supermom: Support Encouragement, and Strategies For New Moms Who Feel Lost, and a co-host on the podcast Motherhood Uncut. She is also the mom of two teenage daughters. She offers group and individual mental health coaching to mothers everywhere. Here are the takeaways... Maternal mental health is supporting the mental health of mothers while they parent. When mothers get the support they need, kids do better. Sustainable mental well-being does not mean being always happy or skipping over challenges. It means that you as a mom have the capacity inside of you to stay steady when there are bumps in the road, so you can feel good, access joy, and provide unconditional love so that you can be the secure parent for your kid. There is SUCH an overlap between the mother's mental health and the child's mental health. It's your responsibility as a mom to take really good care of yourself. The systems for support are flawed. And there is still so much you can do to feel better regardless of the system. Be compassionate with yourself, your feelings are valid and make sense. The emotional workload seems to fall on the birth mom. There is a possibility you are going to feel a load of burden your co-parent may not feel. Rather than resist it and get angry, it's worth considering what it would be like to accept it and learn the tools to manage it. The starting point of mental well-being is self-awareness. From there you can set up habits and patterns that become your way of life. A really important question to ask yourself is, "What is the part I am playing in the things that aren't working?" Even the toughest emotions last 90 seconds when you let them really flow through. The key is to allow yourself to feel the feeling and detach yourself from the thinking. For adults, feelings never hurt anyone. The actions you take to avoid them or ways in which you take them out on other people can be very destructive. And very inconvienent. Little children cannot metabolize big feelings on their own. It is harmful for a small child to sit with a big emotion on their own. They learn to "hot potato" their emotions and push them away. As adults, you now have the capacity in your physiology to metabolize emotions. If you grew up in a system or a family where emotion wasn't welcomed, or no one was around to shepherd you through tough emotions, or environments that were chaotic or abusive, you may be "hot potato" emotions and may be what is making you sick as emotions. GIve yourself grace and recognize you may need to learn (and be taught) how to have big emotions. Slowing down by breathing, noticing your feet on the floor, and other grounding practices can allow you to begin to feel those emotions in safe ways while creating neural pathways in your brain, increasing your capacity to experience emotions. Detaching yourself from pain means you've also detached yourself from pleasure. There isn't a specific age of mothering (or of kids) when things get difficult. When your child hits an age that was challenging for you as the mother, that's when things get difficult in mothering. That's often when you know you need to seek support. We are often taught that good mothers do, do, do, do on behalf of their children. (dinner, signing up for the classes). Good mothering happens when we are being good to ourselves. If you are feeling love inside your body, you can't help but give it away. Same with patience, generosity, and curiosity. It starts with caring for yourself so that YOU feel good and have more to offer, and mother from there. That's when your kids thrive. Our joy, our love, and our happiness is in service of our children. It's NOT selfish. It's easy to feel fear that your children will feel a lack of love when you say no. That's not real. Consider setting boundaries as part of healthy parenting and use Brenda's 3 Bs (Bleeding, Barfing, and Broken). If you are dropping everything to meet your kids' needs or trying to catch them before they fall... they aren't learning how to deal with disappointment or discomfort, or how to be patient. Mistake and repair is a very important part of relationship building, and strengthening relationships. Teaching your kids to do things not only helps you, but it helps them. It's never too late to recognize the places where you are getting in your own way, or where you need support. When you commit to the work, it's going to be impactful. Connect with Kate... So there's this whole string of strips where people send off, basically, angry "letters to the editor." Only in this case, it's people or entities that our beloved (?) Chickweed residents have had enough of. Juliette gets mad at the health care system and as a result shoots her computer full of arrows. Someone gets an "unsolicited letter" and throws their computer out of the window. Or the person sending the "unsolicited letter" throws the computer out the window. Or an unrelated person throws a computer out a window. Guys, it's not clear what's going on AT ALL in one of these comic strips. Amos shows what a super cool guy he is by showing he'd rather barf on his own computer than talk to children about what it's like to play in an orchestra. Thorax licks his computer. Why? Seriously? Why does anyone in this strip do ANYTHING? Juliette's husband moons his computer. And finally, Amos & Edda make out near their computer. The letters (and the reasons behind writing them) don't ever really make sense. We hate to be the ones to break this to Brooke McEldowney, but things that you do in front of your computer or to your computer aren't automatically conveyed through your computer to the recipient, at least not when you're typing. Anyway, one of these strips makes us so angry we can barely contain ourselves. All in all, totally worth it! We finish off with Rick Canning's Bromont 100 experience and what finally had him decide to call his race for that day. Rick goes over the questions he asks himself to make sure it's not a decision he will regret later. We also hear that Rick's stomach is his weak point and what he plans to do to help fix the issue. This is very interesting because we know so many people that have these types of issues while running. Plus we talk about rick's dizziness and what he plans to try to work on this issue. We also find out that part of the reason Rick does 100-mile runs is to feel alive and the 50-mile race only gives him a small taste of this. Then we get into his training plan for next year's Bromont race, As a very passionate runner of these trail runs there is no way Rick could say no. Next, we talk some about covid and how important it is to get active again and just get back out there. Sound advice, it's been tough for a great many people just to get going again. Lastly, we talk about the science and habit of behaviour change and what could help you make the changes you want to make, absolutely fascinating. We also want to make sure we share all of Rick's links so here they are below. “Everything that we have to live with is like, stuff that we made up as kids.” — Tommy Today on the show, we’re joined by the Plurals from Lansing, Michigan. Hattie, Nich and Tommy put out their first album in 2008 on their label, GTG Records. Since 2011, they’ve been doing DIY, self-booked tours around the United States at least twice a year. The Plurals have known each other since they were teenagers, which is wild! It was a Rich & Rare™ opportunity to talk to such an experienced band, so I had a lot of fun picking their collective brain. Playing shows on the road for a decade gives you a lot of time to gather up what is one of my favorite storytelling genres: tour nightmares. The Plurals share three excellent nightmares on today’s episode: My Girl & I Are Done With Our Room The Baseball Bat Coke Daddy Coke Daddy is the “perfect promo piece” for their new album, Swish, which has a song of the same name. This episode was recorded in August, 2017 in a hotel room in Minot, ND during Why Not Fest. Apologies for the sound quality, which is sometimes a little effed up. So much sturm und drang, so little lead... The Garage Hour goons - including Hostus Maximus Justin Fort, Charlie (My Other Brain) and Patrick from Fine Firearms La Mesa - set off on one of those episodes that came to define the Garage Hour: tons of fun topics, somewhat arranged, intriguing, offensive, and never boring. This one's got gearhead: Jeeps and Toyotas and Hummers and Nissans, off-roading at two choice SoCal pieces of dirt (Holy Jim and Corral Canyon), road racing at the Coronado Speed Festival, Hell's Angels (ball-peen, anyone?), drifers, hovercraft, and it's got lots of other good stuff: lumpia, rifles and tigers and bears, snowboarders, funemployment, union thuggery and vote rigging, Prodigy, common sense versus intelligence, bad politicians versus good representatives, and cohost Black Ryan versus cohost Creature. Stop pretending you've got awesomesauce - it's right here. Have some.
I talked to Ashley Ziegler of the blog, Itsy Bitsy Blessings about her experiences with Hyperemesis Gravidarum. We talked about so many things:Her most visited post is a guest post by Brad Klingele titled, "So, Your Wife is Barfing her Guts out". You have to read it. And then pass it around to all your friends and their husbands. How we can fall into the trap of thinking we can "will ourselves through it". I know I did that before getting pregnant. The paranoia she felt when she was hospitalized, thinking that she was surely going to die and thinking that no one was telling her the truth. When her Doctor said that she didn't know anything else to try, a combination of drugs, phenergan and zofran, actually finally worked. Consider lowering your dose of medication is the side effects are too much. Or ask about raising your dose if it's not working. Many drugs are dose specific and will work better at a higher dosage and in combination with other drugs. Don't be afraid to ask. Ashley's blog series on women with HG. We talked about why HG women in particular feel the need to have other people understand. Ashli McCall's book, The Chronicles of Nausea, where she talks about her Hg experience in a diary like prose. She also talks about her experience with cancer in conjunction with HG. Her other book is "Beyond Morning Sickness". I would recommend them both. Ashley Ziegler is currently pregnant with her fourth pregnancy. Email me if you are interested in hearing more about the International HG Day Meetups. rachel@hypergpregnancy.com
