Say hello to the inimitable Harvey Korman who brought his mastery of sketch comedy to the small and big screens for decades. From a humble start voicing cartoons, Harvey became a comic acting powerhouse with a long run on The Carol Burnett Show and many juicy movie roles, especially in Mel Brooks classics such as Blazing Saddles and High Anxiety. And remember -- "It's Head-LEY"! As always, find more Harvey below and thanks for sharing our shows. Want more Harvey? When Harvey was first getting started he did some cartoon voice work, most notably as space alien "The Great Gazoo" in the Flintstones. Here's a nice collection of some of Harvey/Gazoo's best bits on the show. https://youtu.be/ekfR6RKpfmI Harvey's iconic tv turn came on the Carol Burnett variety show where he was featured for a decade, winning four Emmys and a Golden Globe in the process. There is so much good stuff to choose from, but this sketch stands out. It's Harvey as a nervous dental patient meeting Tim Conway's fresh out of school dentist. No nitrous needed -- these guys supply their own laughing gas. https://youtu.be/9IUSM4EKcRI It's hard to pick just one Harvey character as his best, but in the running has to be his over the top portrayal of crooked Attorney General Headley Lamar in Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles. His scenes with Mel's corrupt Gov. William J. LePetomane (named for the French "flatulist") are masterclasses in comic timing. https://youtu.be/g2Bp8SqYrnE

A heads up: This episode discusses sexual assault in the context of it being something that would get referenced in mid-2000s shows as a marker of being “edgy.” Also, there is a discussion of anal probing in the context of alien abduction, not to be funny but to try and understand why this is a concept that shows up on sitcoms. “Roger 'n‘ Me” (April 23, 2006) As a follow-up to last week's Great Gazoo episode, we return to American Dad to try to explain why Roger the alien is such a successful character and, really, a likely reason why American Dad show succeeds. This is an early episode exploring Roger's relationship with Stan. And while the show suffers from being more like Family Guy than it would be even a year later, there is surprisingly nuance to the way the show deals with these two sharing what amounts to a sexual experience. Listen to our previous episode on American Dad. Listen to the episode of Monday Afternoon Movie about The UFO Incident, with special guest Scott Philbrook from Astonishing Legends. “The Great Gazoo” (October 29, 1965) Not only did the Great Gazoo mark the “jumping the shark” point for The Flintstones well before that was a term that meant anything in TV studies, but also there's a whole queer backstory for this green imp, who's allegedly inspired by a guy who taught a legendary class of CalArts animators who went on to make most of the top-grossing cinematic cartoons of the last fifty years. The fact that there's next to nothing available online about Bill Moore only makes the mystery more enticing. We truly will have a gay old time. Read the Vanity Fair piece on CalArts in which Brad Bird identifies the Great Gazoo as being inspired by Bill Moore. This week on the podcast, the guys take a long look at 1986's Aliens. It's the Flintstones! They're a modern stone-age family! And we're a modern show that reviews stone-age television, so this was kind of an inevitable match up. Travis takes us all the way back to Bedrock to take a look at the first animated prime time sitcom. In this "Jumping the Shark" episode, Travis has gone with the old TV trope of introducing a new character when the writers weren't entirely sure what to do. That character in this instance is The Great Gazoo! The alien with unexplained magical powers who drops into the lives of the main characters and opens up a world of ... interesting plot points. Next time, Audie is going to take us to outer reaches of space with Star Trek! Yes, the original series. Cortney and Shana can't remember exactly how they first became aware of the New Age promises and anxieties that would come to dominate every aspect of their lives. Their mom brought it into the house and their daily rhythms bit by bit. As kids in the early 1980s, they would fall asleep to visualizations by the self-help guru Wayne Dyer, on audiocassette. Or mom would read passages from Autobiography of a Yogi, by Paramahansa Yogananda, after tucking them into bed. Cortney remembers an eerie photograph of the yogi's corpse in a glass coffin in the mortuary. The lore was that he just wouldn't decay. “Mom had a real fascination with beating death,” she told us. When the girls were still in elementary school, mom took them to an “attunement”, which must have made them the youngest Reiki Masters in Green Bay, Wisconsin—if not the whole midwest. “She was on a search,” Shana told us. And at some point the local massage training, the flyers in the health food stores, and the mail-order books weren't enough. Mom started going to events, a long way from home—all the way out in Washington State. One time she came home with a VHS tape and played it for the girls. It showed a woman named J.Z. Knight transform into someone she called “Ramtha,” who she said was 35,000 years old, and carried the wisdom of the ages. She also brought audiocassettes of Ramtha, which they played in the car. This was their introduction to “channeling.” They were young teens, and didn't know what to think. Was it magic? Was it funny? Ramtha sounded like the Great Gazoo, after all. When mom wasn't home they'd show the VHS tape to their friends and giggle. But they also felt strange about it. Embarrassed. “I remember yelling at my mom, ‘Why can't you be normal?'” Shana said. What they understand now is how much she desperately needed to find something that was meaningful. “She was really struggling in the Catholic religion,” Shana said, “And her marriage,” Cortney added. “And midlife. It was the perfect storm.” Matthew sits down with Cortney and Shana as they share their story publicly for the first time.

Jen rocks to Tina Turner's “Better Be Good to Me” and Bonnie Raitt and John Prine's duet of his magical “Angel from Montgomery.” (April recalls another duet of this song from her misspent youth, singing in cowboy bars.) April adds “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears, and A-ha's “Take on Me.” Hear all our 80s picks here: https://bit.ly/3fHbbKY. We post our episodes on YouTube as well: https://bit.ly/3uQtlPR. 06:13 - Big Sky Astrology turns 21 on the day of the Solar Eclipse, June 10! Here's what it looked like back in 2001. 08:23 - *MOONWATCH * Gemini New Moon/Solar Eclipse at 19.47 Gemini (June 10). The eclipse is at the Moon's North Node, so its awakenings move us in the direction of growth, curiosity, learning, and open-mindedness! Is it visible where you are? Check here: https://bit.ly/3cg1YII 09:49 - The Sun and Moon conjoin Mercury retrograde, so look to the past for lessons learned or unfinished. Expect visitations from the past, if only in memory, possibly from previous years in this eclipse cycle: June 1983, June 2002, Dec. 1992, and Dec. 2011. Look to the Gemini house(s) of your birth chart and any planets between 16-24° of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, or Pisces, to see where you'll be affected. 13:10 - Order April's Followed by a Moonshadow Eclipse Report (https://bit.ly/2QFU6bE)! 14:05 - Saturn/Uranus approach the second of three squares next week. This is a year-long arc of tension between laws and liberty, playing by the rules and breaking them. We discussed the first square (Feb. 17) in Ep. 69: https://bit.ly/3z5d2lJ. 14:59 - Sun conjunct Mercury, also June 10. Jen breaks down this inferior conjunction (https://bit.ly/3pu010E), prompting a musical interlude and evoking memories of a 1960s cartoon character: https://bit.ly/2Se1zzr 16:05 - Mars enters LEEEEoooo! on June 11. It will meet some testy aspects here; expect frustration and short tempers, but conflict is usually short-lived with Mars in fire signs. It will be at its strongest between July 22, when the Sun enters Leo, and July 29, when Mars enters Virgo and your hosts have their fit and feisty Mars returns! 18:54 - Venus sextiles Uranus on June 12. Homebody Venus in Cancer is invited to venture out for a change of scenery, and relationships could get a little perking up. Plus: How do you pronounce Uranus? 20:45 - The Sun squares Neptune (June 13) and is reminded to be aware of others' feelings and needs. Physical energy could be low. Pay attention to your body; slow down when needed. This square also influences Mars in Leo. New ideas or projects can suddenly run into unexpected issues, confusion, and/or communication issues. 24:34 - Thanks for listening! Be sure to follow, rate and review, and tell a friend! Truly Inconsequential – Not all characters are created equal. Mr. Greer and Brimstone of The Grindhouse Radio debate this week's zeroes in front of a live audience. It'll be determined in real time who will remain inconsequential, and who may be liberated back into the hero's category. This week, they argue the Great Gazoo from The Flintstones; as well as DJ Jazzy Jeff from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air – Do you think he'll cut and scratch his way into our hearts; or does Uncle Phil toss him out for good. Question is, who will remain truly inconsequential.

Question is, who will remain truly inconsequential.
This is a crossover episode - but don't worry we don't have Scrappy Doo or the Great Gazoo on deck. We are joined by Paul Kalemkiarian the host of Wine Talks in California. He runs one of the oldest wine clubs in the United States. We sit down with him to chat about what's going on with wine and covid north and south of the border.
This week, as chosen by premium Patreon subscriber Phil, we're covering a bedrock of TV animation: The Flintstones! The series is now a bit of a forgotten institution, so we explore how the show came to define the 1960s. And after cover the creation of it, we also cover the show's first downfall, as defined by a little green alien that only Fred and Barney can see. Listen along as we have a gay old time! THE ROBOTS ARE TAKING OVER! In this episode, the lads count down the songs of the past that sound like the future...or something like that. That's right, we're talking about our top synth pop songs of the O3L era, and it's a fun 'un! Now, kids, generally we pride ourselves on running a family friendly show, but this is the first podcast in history to garner an 'Explicit' rating for hard hitting discussions about robot prostitutes, The Great Gazoo, and Metal Mickey (seriously, does nobody but Brett watch that masterpiece??). But don't fact check us on that, because there are some pretty freaky-deeky podcasts out there. Boogie boogie!
We hope you're excited for a lot of Flintstones talk because we've got that modern stone age family on the brain. There's nothing we love more than really digging into some Flintstones science and trying to figure out how that beautiful family of freaks lived. What is your favorite live-action Flintstones film? Is it the first one with Rosie O'Donnell as Betty Rubble? OR is it the second one where they go to Rock Vegas and Stephen Baldwin plays Barney Rubble? There is only one correct answer, and if this helps, only one of them has Alan Cumming playing one of the greatest Flintstones characters. The character I'm obviously talking about is the Great Gazoo, the alien that only Fred and Barney can see that calls them "dumb dumbs." So grab your favorite slab of old dinosaur meat and listen to a nice new episode.

Join Scott, Kevin, Sarah, and Hamish as they take a look back to the very first episode of one of television’s greatest talk shows: Late Night with Conan O’Brien! Listen as they take a very deep dive into an episode that would end up being the beginning of a magnificent 16 year run, spanning more than 2,700 episodes. They’ll detail the history of the show, from David Letterman’s departure from NBC, the hiring of a relatively unknown Conan O’Brien and Andy Richter, Conan’s chance meeting with drummer Max Weinberg, and the early criticism the show faced. They’ll also discuss Conan’s history on television, from his early days writing for SNL and the Simpsons, to his time as host of the Tonight Show, to his current show on TBS and new podcast. They’ll break down each of Conan’s first segments, including his very first monologue, comedy bits, and interviews with his first three guests: John Goodman, Drew Barrymore, and Tony Randall, and much, much more! They’ll also talk about the origins of the show band The Max Weinberg 7, and all of its changes over the years. From the origins of the Great Gazoo, leg wrestling with George Wendt, and Bob Costas throwing apples, this episode has it all! So join us on the couch as we take a look back... That’s right. This week the word is new. Topics the nerds discuss include new elements being added into existing games or stories to freshen them up (such as Scrappy Doo, Worf, Seven of Nine, Batgirl, and the Great Gazoo), how their games have evolved as they've created new editions and new game mechanics, and shows that have radically re-invented themselves from one season to the next (including the Sarah Connor Chronicles and It's About Time). Andy talks about where he's gotten to in watching Babylon 5 and how surprised he was by the appearance of a couple of notable guest stars. Keith tries to talk about Bumblebee without spoiling it. Lastly they bring down the Spoiler Curtain to discuss Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse.SPOILER WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS

Now That's Pod is coming at you fast with a finely tuned hour of banter, the kind of banter that's built for speed. Marvel at this banter's sinewy thighs! Not for Nothin', but this is our week 8 show. We start off nice and easy, talking a little baseball and kinda picks a World Series picks (2:50), then Chris confesses his love for Geno Smith (7:55). We discuss Gronks "69" reference..."You know what I mean" (10:15), Then move on to the problem with kickers this year (11:17). Chris lays down another big conspiracy theory on the NFL, staring none other than the modern day Bond villain himself, Roger Goodell (15:40). It's pick time (28:00). Along the way we compare Brock Osweiler to John Henry (31:50), talk about these crappy London games (36:52), then go in to an epic rant about Carson Palmer's helmet size, comparing him to the Great Gazoo (51:20). Sit back with a refreshing 7&7 and enjoy this masterpiece.
Kevin and Kornflake celebrate 75 years of the King of Atlantis, the guy in the scaly orange shirt (perhaps not the fanciest of superhero costumes), Aquaman! Yes, Aquaman has been talking to the fish since 1941, he's a founding member of the Justice League of America, and he's your favorite Super Friend. So let's show some respect. We also look at Aquaman's whole crazy Aqua-family: his flipper-footed wife Mera, his teen sidekick Aqualad, and Aqualad's "deep-six chick" (yeah, that's what they called her) Aqua-Girl. And then we have Aquaman's greatest villain (and coolest member of the Legion of Doom) Black Manta, his pesky little "water sprite" Quisp (sort of an underwater Great Gazoo), and his giant octopus buddy, Topo (who is also a fine musician, because why not). We cover Aquaman's 1960s Filmation cartoons, his 1970s Mego action figure, his live action debut on Smallville, and his truly outrageous appearances in Batman: The Brave and the Bold. And of course, a dark scary Game of Thrones-style Aquaman is coming soon to a theater near you! But we suspect that the lighter, sillier version of Aquaman will always be our favorite. And we have freshly-baked Aqua-cookies to prove it.
On Episode 176 of Trick or Treat Radio we settle into our second week in the brand new Castle Wolfenstein! We are joined by our good buddy and honorary Deadite, Teeel frontman Jim Smith to review the 80s slasher homage flick, The Final Girls! This week we're celebrating 75 years of the fastest man alive, The Flash! In the comic books, Flash was a founding member of the Justice League and the Justice Society, as well as a pivotal figure in the history of the DC Comics universe. On the other hand, he has been known to hang around with goofballs like Mopee (Flash's version of the Great Gazoo, sort of) and The Three Dimwits (whose resemblance to The Three Stooges was completely coincidental, we assure you). We also look back at the Flash on TV, including the Filmation cartoons, the Super Friends, and a couple of bizarre live action appearances in the late 1970s. (Alas, Dan Aykroyd has only played Flash once. So far...) And of course, there have also been two live action Flash TV series: the short-lived but fondly-recalled 1990 version, and the surprisingly excellent current version. Both shows, by the way, have guest-starred Mark Hamill as the Trickster. And as Kornflake learns in our totally unfair Flash Villain Quiz, Trickster was certainly not Flash's goofiest villain. Not even close. Also this week: Did Mr. Peanut ever work for the phone company? We think he did, but we're about as reliable as The Three Dimwits.
As this episode posts, the Oscars are just two days away, and everybody’s talking about who’ll win. So we decided to skip the prognostications and talk about what we hope the winners will say and do, and what we hope for from Oscar speeches in general. Then Hot Tub Time Machine 2 gets us digging into the worlds of sequels that lost key personnel from the original film: What we expect from them, what we get, and what can redeem them. This week’s game, also about Oscar speeches, lets Scott Tobias again prove his lightning speed at identifying audio clips, and we close out with an unexpectedly close-to-home (and yet far, far away) edition of 30 Seconds To Sell.
This week we are all feeling better -- well, except for MonsterZero who is apparently wicked sick. We weigh each other (huh?) This week’s movie discussion focuses on the lowest grossing film from 2012, The Ghastly Love of Johnny X (did you say weighed each other?) shut up I'm working... We also give you the 411 on the upcoming Three For All event (why would you weigh each...) CAN IT! So grab an extra large shirt, your devo hat and strap on for Episode 96 of Trick or Treat Radio! Topics discussed: It's No Good, AIDS, meme time, To Catch a Predator, The Curtain Society, The Southern Revenger, pussy pencil, tumblr, lost Church of Mirrors, how much we weigh, to catch a cake predator, Kizarny’s Odditorium, Gmail, people shaped like Ravenshadow in cinema history, The Ghastly Love of Johnny X, CHIKARA, Kobald, King of Trios, Godzilla, Tim Burton, Kevin McCarthy, Paul Williams, Eyes of Fire, Grease, The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra, The Seventh Curse, Siri, UHF, Devo hats, The Outsiders, nude photos, Tiny's take on musical numbers, the lies psa, hokey armor, Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Flight of the Conchords, how wealthy do you have to be for masturbation to become extinct, Superman, Nightmare Before Christmas, Spartacus, Kids 20 years later, Reggie Bannister, Dynamo's special lady friend’s line slimming, Kodak Plus-X 5231 film, super villains, greasers, taint injuries, Swirls and Scoops, Avengers, top grossing films in 2012, Dear God No, Hawk the Slayer, the inside of Koop’s head, Brainscan, The Three For All, monster hunter hunting, Terry Funk, Roger Lavallee, The Flood, The Blarney Stone, Silica was right shirt, I Fear You, live virgins, Etch-a-Sketch, The Great Gazoo, Zero Hour and the Time Trapper, Dynamo's diet, XL shirts and Elongated Man.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/trickortreatradio)
Happy 75th Birthday to Batman! This week Kevin and Kornflake look back at the Caped Crusader's first 75 years, including: Bat-Mite (Batman's Great Gazoo-style imp), Batwoman (who fought crime using jewelry and makeup, because, you know, she was a girl), and Ace the Bat-Hound (a dog with a mask)! And don't forget Cesar Romero's mustache! Or the time Batman met Weird Al! Also: We introduce a new superhero of our own (lobster-themed, of course), and we celebrate Sea Monkey Day (because we like fooling children). This show is such a Bat-tacular (as Kornflake calls it) that you'll want to display a giant penny in your living room.

The Flintstones - 6x07 - The Great Gazoo
We start by helping out another frustrated internet searcher who for some reason stumbled onto our website after googling "the sexy girl machines". Of course our website had no information on this, until now. Much of our discussion is focused on the use of a definite article in his search phrase, which is probably not what the dude was bargaining for. Anyway, T-bone quickly rescues the segment by telling us about his one-time girlfriend's fondness for sitting on the clothes dryer. You SHOULD be intrigued. Then in Urban Legend, Warren describes how The Flintstones was based on a true story, supported by "overwhelming archaeological evidence". Turns out the fact that they wrote stuff on stone tablets means there's a treasure trove of artefacts with which we can learn about our past. Sigh. If you have questions about Warren's methods of attribution, or wish to electronically punch him in the neck, email us (maskedman@limitedappeal.net).
