Niels Kaastrup-Larsen and Alan Dunne examine how a changing macro regime is reshaping markets and the role of trend following. They discuss unusual U.S. intervention in the yen, mounting sensitivity around Treasury yields, and questions surrounding Kevin Warsh's communication and the Fed's credibility. Alan identifies three fractures defining the new regime: persistent inflation, growing debt sustainability concerns, and the erosion of institutional norms. They also explore why trend following has performed differently this decade, particularly during periods of bond market stress, before comparing AQR and GMO's strikingly different long-term return assumptions and what they imply for portfolio construction.-----50 YEARS OF TREND FOLLOWING BOOK AND BEHIND-THE-SCENES VIDEO FOR ACCREDITED INVESTORS - CLICK HERE-----Follow Niels on Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube or via the TTU website.IT's TRUE ? – most CIO's read 50+ books each year – get your FREE copy of the Ultimate Guide to the Best Investment Books ever written here. And you can get a free copy of my latest book “Ten Reasons to Add Trend Following to Your Portfolio” here.Learn more about the Trend Barometer here.Send your questions to info@toptradersunplugged.comAnd please share this episode with a like-minded friend and leave an honest Rating & Review on iTunes or Spotify so more people can discover the podcast.Follow Alan on Twitter.Episode TimeStamps:00:00 - Introduction and what's been on Alan's radar01:55 - Why U.S. intervention in the yen matters07:04 - Zuckerberg, Meta and the $16.68 billion question08:31 - August trend following performance and market intervention12:16 - Why CTA performance is increasingly dispersed16:08 - Kevin Warsh, the Fed balance sheet and Treasury supply18:56 - Has short-term trend following structurally degraded?22:17 - Macro narratives versus systematic positioning24:37 - Fed communication, credibility and the Warsh reaction function30:16 - Bessent, Warsh, Druckenmiller and the battle over bond yields34:23 - The three fractures reshaping the macro regime41:42 - How trend following has changed in the new regime49:54 - Commodities, deglobalization and diversification52:29 - AQR versus GMO: radically different forecasts for future returns01:02:08 - Debt sustainability and what investors should watch nextCopyright © 2025 – CMC AG – All Rights Reserved----PLUS: Whenever you're ready... here are 3 ways I can help you in your investment Journey:1. eBooks that cover key topics that you need to know about In my eBooks, I put together some key discoveries and things I have learnt during the more than 3 decades I have worked in the Trend Following industry, which I hope you will find useful. I tried recreating my old McDonald's order from my heaviest days and the number was wild: roughly 5,000 calories in what used to feel like a “normal” day of eating. But the most important part wasn't the calorie math or the fast food breakdown. It was the reason I always bought two of everything: a real, irrational fear that I'd run out of food and the comfort would end. That's emotional eating in plain English, and we pull the thread on how routines, familiarity, and anxiety can drive overeating more than taste ever does. From there we pivot into nutrition misinformation and food marketing, because the same brain that wants certainty also wants simple rules. We talk about influencer health claims, undisclosed partnerships, and why audiences eventually get tired of confident nonsense. We also break down misleading label language like “non-GMO turkey” and “antibiotic-free” messaging that sounds meaningful while saying almost nothing. Then we shout out clever examples of packaging makeovers that prove how easy it is to make the same product look “clean” or “healthy” with nothing but design and wording. We keep it grounded with budget-friendly healthy eating advice too: you don't need premium stores or overpriced organic hype to eat well, hit protein goals, or support weight loss. Along the way, we take a few hilarious detours into mascot lore, measurement chaos, and other pop culture oddities that somehow make the media literacy lesson stick. Subscribe for more, share this with a friend who loves a good label rant, and leave a review. What's the most misleading “healthy” claim you've seen on a package? Welcome back to Cannabis School! Today, Brandon and Jesse review Cheee of Bandits by Pure Plan, a mysterious Utah cannabis strain with an unusual name and an experience that is even harder to explain.Despite what the name suggests, this flower does not arrive with an overwhelming cheese aroma. Instead, it produces a surprisingly sweet smell that becomes even more impressive as the vaporizer begins warming. The first taste reminds the guys of stevia: undeniably sweet, slightly strange, and difficult to place. The flower reviewed contains roughly 20% THC, along with minor cannabinoids including CBC and CBG. Its labeled terpene profile includes beta-caryophyllene, limonene, linalool, myrcene, and humulene. Together, they create a sweet, peppery flavor that eventually develops a gentle “sweet heat” across the tongue and throat. The initial experience is bright, floaty, giggly, and physically relaxing. Colors seem more vibrant, the arms feel lighter, and Brandon notices that his sore shoulder is no longer demanding as much attention. As the session continues, however, Cheee of Bandits becomes more complicated. The bright beginning transitions into a strongly head-focused experience, with warmth and pressure around the top of the head. Brandon and Jesse also notice tension around the neck and jaw. It remains entertaining and silly, but neither host can identify a clear activity or purpose for it.Would it be good for watching a ridiculous movie and making your own commentary? Absolutely.Would we choose it for work, exercise, or focused creativity? Probably not.The guys experiment by adding GMO Cookies, hoping its relaxed euphoria will balance the experience. Unfortunately, the combination creates more jaw tension and proves that even two enjoyable strains can make a questionable team. The final verdict? Cheee of Bandits is not necessarily bad—it is just weird. Its aroma is incredible, the sweet-and-spicy flavor is memorable, and the opening effects are genuinely fun. The later head pressure makes it harder to recommend as an everyday strain, but curious sativa fans may enjoy trying something that does not feel like everything else on the shelf.Buying it on sale makes sense. Mixing it with GMO did not.In this episode:• Reviewing Cheee of Bandits by Pure Plan• A mysterious Utah cannabis strain• Approximately 20% THC with CBC and CBG• Caryophyllene, limonene, linalool, myrcene, and humulene• A sweet aroma that resembles stevia• Peppery flavor and gentle sweet heat• Bright, floaty, and giggly opening effects• Head pressure, neck sensations, and jaw tension• Using low heat to explore cannabis aroma• Why it may work for movies and social laughter• Mixing Cheee of Bandits with GMO Cookies• Why some cannabis combinations do not work• The need for better strain information in Utah• Pure Plan, Dragonfly, Betty, and Brand ZeroFind everything in one place here:
Lucifer is not Satan. In this week study, we dig into the Hebrew name translated Lucifer in the king James Bible, Helel Ben Shachar. Scholar William Gallagher showed in a peer reviewed paper more than 30 years ago that Helel was the West Semitic (i.e., Hebrew) transliteration of the Akkadian deity Ellil. This entity was known by many names in the ancient Near East, including Dagon, Assur, El, and Milcom (and thus Molech). All of these entities were connected to the underworld whereas Satan is nowhere in the Bible linked to Sheol, Hades, Gehenna, or the abyss. The other clue pointing to Ellil et. al is the fact that this polemic is directed at the king of Babylon. In Hebrew, that's melek bab el, which literally means "King of Babel" or "king of the god-gate." We realize this is a unique take on a famous and well studied chapter of the Bible. But it's consistent with other scriptures, and it's a good reminder to ask ourselves whether our interpretation of scripture is based on the Bible itself or human traditions. Here's the link to the book by David W. Lowe, Deconstructing Lucifer, which shows how our understanding of Satan today is quite different from how the apostles viewed him: https://bit.ly/4cWhW9U Question of the week: Why do some scholars call Judea in the time of Jesus "Palestine"? MUSLIMS ARE planning enclaves that could put self-contained religious communities near Dallas and Houston. Meanwhile, amplifiers broadcast the call to prayer in American cities like Minneapolis, Dearborn and Hamtramck, Michigan, and Paterson, New Jersey. Imams are growing increasingly bold in their statements that their goal is to turn America into a Muslim nation. What most Americans don't realize is that there is no separation of church and state in Islam. The church IS the state, for all intents and purposes. But more than that, this is a spiritual war that the god of Muhammad—who is not to be confused with the triune God of the Bible—intends to win. Here's the link to the article Derek mentioned, "A Call to Power: Islamic Leaders See Ballot Box as Path to Paradise," by Paul Sperry. That fact is also behind a statement issued by the foreign ministers of Turkey, the UAE, Indonesia, Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. In a joint statement, the ministers objected to Israel's plan to build 3,400 new dwellings in an area east of Jerusalem called E1. They complain that this would separate Arab neighborhoods in East Jerusalem from the rest of the so-called West Bank, blocking the creation of a future Palestinian state with its capital at Jerusalem. From the Israeli standpoint, that is rather the point. After the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, Israel will not accept an independent Palestinian state on its borders. Further eroding the situation in the Middle East, Turkey has issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The Turks are seeking an Interpol red notice for the arrest of Netanyahu as part of a criminal case against him for Israel's interception of an aid flotilla sailing for Gaza back in May. The charges include genocide, crimes against humanity and torture. Well, good luck with that. We also discussed a plan to build data centers around the ring of fire, the volcanically active area around the Pacific Ocean, using geothermal energy to power the centers. Tapping into volcanoes to generate electricity. What can possibly go wrong? Also: Social media is causing an epidemic of mental and spiritual illness, as evidenced by the crowd of women who gathered outside the courthouse in Plymouth, Massachusetts Thursday in support of Lindsay Clancy, who has admitted to killing her three children. Granted, postpartum depression is a real thing. But that doesn't mean Clancy shouldn't be held accountable for what she did. Welcome back to Cannabis School! Today, Brandon and Jesse revisit one of their longtime favorites: GMO Cookies, also known as GMO or Garlic Cookies.Created from Girl Scout Cookies and Chemdog genetics, GMO has become a building block for countless modern cannabis crosses. There is a reason it keeps returning to the rotation: the flavor is unmistakable, the experience is reliable, and even after trying hundreds of products, it still holds a place among the guys' favorite strains.GMO delivers one of those flavor profiles that sounds terrible on paper but somehow works beautifully in cannabis. Expect garlic, diesel, onion, earth, pepper, skunk, and something slightly fermented. It is dark, savory, and funky without leaving you feeling like you ate an entire clove of garlic. The experience begins with a pleasant, head-forward brightness before the relaxing side starts moving in. It feels euphoric, social, and calming without immediately shutting everything down. With larger amounts, however, GMO can become much heavier and sleepier. This is commonly a high-THC strain, so new or sensitive consumers should approach it carefully.A small amount may be plenty. You can always consume more, but you cannot un-smoke the bowl.Brandon and Jesse also discuss why GMO works so well in strain combinations, how layering flower and concentrates can create a more consistent experience, and why its savory flavor can enhance a meal. The commonly reported terpene profile includes beta-caryophyllene, limonene, and myrcene, although every grow and batch will be different. The class then moves into joint rolling, flavored papers, avoiding an uneven burn, Utah flower quality, irradiated cannabis, and the difference between dry flower and poorly grown flower. Jesse also introduces his extremely potent homemade “Stargazer Honey,” leading to an important conversation about edible tolerance, careful labeling, safe storage, and knowing your personal dose. The final verdict? GMO remains an old-school favorite with a strange flavor, a bright-but-relaxed experience, and enough potency to remind experienced consumers that a little can still go a long way.In this episode:• GMO Cookies genetics and history• Garlic, diesel, onion, pepper, and earthy flavors• Relaxing, euphoric, and social effects• Why GMO works well in cannabis combinations• Caryophyllene, limonene, and myrcene• Flower, concentrates, and vape formats• Joint-rolling techniques and flavored papers• Avoiding canoeing and improving the burn• Utah cannabis quality and irradiated flower• Vaporizing versus smoking flower• Cannabis tolerance and responsible dosing• Stargazer infused honey and safe storageHave you tried GMO Cookies or a GMO cross? 396: Allulose has quickly become one of the most popular sugar alternatives, but is it actually a healthy choice? In this Bite of Knowledge, I'm breaking down what allulose is, how it's made, and why its GMO status and labeling can be confusing. GIANTS AND WATCHERS will execute God's judgment on the prophesied Day of the Lord. Isaiah 13 is, on the surface, a prophecy of judgment on Babylon. But there are clues in this chapter that there's more to this prophecy than meets the eye. First, the Hebrew verb translated “consecrated” (as in “consecrated ones,” Isaiah 13:3) is based on the same root behind the words “holy one/s” in Daniel 4:13 and 17, used in parallel with “Watcher/s” in those verses. Given that the Septuagint translates Hebrew gibborim (“mighty men”) as “giants,” it's possible that the “consecrated ones” of Isaiah 13:3 are Watchers—a powerful class of angel often tasked with carrying out God's will (as in Daniel 4). As a whole, Isaiah 13 is an “already but not yet” prophecy of the destruction of Babylon. The “already” took place roughly 150 years after Isaiah wrote this prophecy when Cyrus the great captured the city the night of Belshazzar's drunken feast. The future fulfillment comes on the Day of the Lord, which we believe takes place at the end of the seven year Great Tribulation. In addition, there are hints of the supernatural fulfillment of the “not yet” part of the prophecy. Isaiah 13:20–22 foretells a day when Babylon is utterly destroyed, becoming a haunt of supernatural creatures. That's not apparent in most English translations, but digging into the Hebrew and Greek reveals more of Isaiah's original vision: Babylon inhabited forever by demons, sirens, satyrs, and dragons. Question of the week: What do we think about the Noahide laws? Sharon's niece, Sarah Sachleben, has been battling stage 4 bowel cancer and the medical bills are piling up. A MIDDLE EASTERN nation reportedly advised another to seek peace with Israel—not as an end to war, but in preparation for it. The report by Israel's public radio, KAN News, claims the unnamed nation suggested its counterpart reach an agreement with Israel with the intention of violating it later while preparing for a wider military conflict. Neither nation was identified in the report, which raises many questions. Is it Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, or another traditional enemy of Israel? Could this be "strong covenant with many" prophesied in the book of Daniel? We also discuss a chilling story from Canada about an elderly woman who was put to death under that nation's Medical Assistance In Dying (MAID) policy, despite the family's insistence that she was not mentally capable of making such a decision and the lack of evidence that she had given approval. Also: The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda continues to spread; Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's party tried to remove him after the Hamas attack; and a powerful earthquake strikes Indonesia. This is a Vintage episode from 2006.Why This Episode MattersErica Renaud explains why heirloom, traditional and open-pollinated seeds matter to agricultural biodiversity.Mark and Francis share how they worked directly with local farmers to plan crops, commit to purchases and even shoulder some of the farmer's risk. The conversation connects sustainable agriculture with something more immediate to a restaurant: better-tasting food. From backyard tomatoes to restaurant purchasing, they explore ways consumers, chefs and farmers can build a closer connection to where food comes from. The ConversationIn 2006, organic farmer and researcher Erica Renaud of Seeds of Change joined Mark Pascal and Francis Schott for a conversation about something fundamental to the food on our plates: the seed.Erica explains the differences among heirloom, traditional and open-pollinated varieties and why preserving genetic diversity matters. The discussion moves from seed saving and organic agriculture to the relationship between farmers and chefs—and that's where Mark and Francis bring the conversation directly into their restaurants. They describe meeting with farmers before planting season to decide what to grow, committing to buy entire crops and sharing some of the agricultural risk. When hundreds of pounds of Jersey tomatoes arrived at once, the restaurants put them across the menu and preserved the harvest so they could serve local tomato sauce in the middle of winter. For Mark and Francis, the motivation wasn't simply philosophical: the food tasted better. Their argument is that the search for the most sustainably grown tomato and the search for the best-tasting tomato can lead you to the same farm.Erica also makes the case for growing something yourself—even in a container or small garden—as a way to understand food differently. From teaching children where food comes from to discovering how dramatically one tomato variety can taste from another, the conversation follows food from seed to farm to restaurant to plate.Guest BioAt the time of this 2006 conversation, Erica Renaud was an organic farmer and researcher and the Research and Farm Manager for Seeds of Change, working on organic seed production, agricultural biodiversity and programs connecting farmers with chefs and consumers.Timestamps00:00 Heirloom seeds, open pollination and preserving biodiversity04:00 Seed patents, hybrids and who controls the food supply07:00 Why chefs and farmers should plan together12:00 Sustainable food often tastes better and everyone should grow something18:30 Why organic food should start with organic seed24:30 How consumers can drive demand for better, more sustainable food InfoSeeds of Change https://www.seedsofchange.com/The organization discussed in this 2006 interview has evolved considerably since the original broadcast. Michigan's Growing Pains bred and grew the Banana Taffy, entered it last minute, and beat every California grower in the Proper Smoke League.Tom and Seth of Growing Pains came up through Michigan basements, illegal caregiver traps, and the gray market years before a single license existed in the state. They built a 300-light indoor operation, bred their own genetics, and then flew to California and won. This is the full story. In this episode, JP sits down with the Proper Smoke League champions to unpack what it actually took to get here. They break down why the Banana Taffy nearly did not get entered, how harvest timing and their in-house dueling process shaped a Michigan craft cannabis operation that now competes with the best growers in the country, and what separates a craft cultivator from a production farmer in the current market. If you have ever wondered how Michigan cannabis growers stack up against California, you will have your answer by the end of the first hour.Tom tells the real GMO origin story on record for the first time: three Chem Cookies seeds popped by his buddy Billy in a Michigan basement, the corn-stalk structure that gave it the name, and why Ann Arbor dispensaries refused to sell anything called GMO and renamed it Garlic Cookies. They also get into the Motorbreath 15 history, the genetics game-changer moment that shifted Seth's entire growing approach, and what the cannabis industry loses when people consume the product wrong. This episode covers the craft, the business, and the culture that built Growing Pains from the ground up.Good PizzZa documents real cannabis culture, the growers, the breeders, the legacy operators, and the stories that do not get told anywhere else. There's a type of heater setup that delivers heat right where you need it and can offer some important advantages over forced air heat, but we don't see many of them in the field. We think lack of knowledge about the technogy is the limiting factor, and it turns out there is also some customization involved, so we got ahold of John Wells at Rimol Greenhouse Systems to break it down for us. The tech we're talking about is called convection tube heating, and it has as much to do with how the heat is delivered as the specs of the heater itself. The big difference from most heaters is that hot air goes into a plenum (like a manifold) that channels the hot air into multiple separate ducts that are attached to big, perforated plastic tubes that distribute the heat evenly through the greenhouse. The tubes typically run down pathways, and in vining crops they have the advantage of heating the air at the base of the plant, where disease tends to start, and rises from there warming the whole plant. In winter greens crops, it means growers can run the tubes under row cover and only heat the area under cover- meaning you only need to heat the fraction of the greenhouse where your crop is. Listen to this episode to learn about the specs needed to run such a system- plus best practices for cooling the greenhouse with shade cloth. Anika sat down with Alexis Meschi to explore why successful business owners often hide behind their companies and suffer from imposter syndrome when it comes to stepping into the spotlight. The conversation revealed a crucial reality: stunning brand photography isn't enough without a strategy to deploy it. Alexis's transition from high school English teacher to brand photographer to founder of Ora Marketing offered a practical look at how recruiters and female founders can leverage their "human advantage" in an increasingly AI-driven marketplace. In This Episode The origin story of Ora Marketing and the pivot from brand photography to brand strategy Why successful female founders experience imposter syndrome about being the face of their brand The antiquated marketing methods of the recruiting industry and why cold calling isn't enough Why the "human element" is a recruiter's biggest asset against AI job interviews The 90-minute positioning call: why you must understand your target market before anything else Building a LinkedIn ecosystem and why you don't need to be on every social media platform The Ora Marketing framework: generating a month of content in just a one-hour interview The "human sticker" concept: how being distinctly human is the new premium advantage Ora Marketing's new expansion to serve and support female founders Timestamps 00:00 Introduction: The hesitancy of being the face of your brand 02:11 The transition from brand photography to brand strategy 06:37 Founding Ora Marketing and niching down into recruiters and staffing agencies 10:59 Why recruiters are more important than ever amidst AI job interviews 12:42 The surprising lack of foundational framework in successful businesses 14:33 The 90-minute positioning call and the Ora Marketing framework 19:21 Why recruiter content gets attention but fails to generate clients 20:59 Overcoming video hesitancy and capturing a month's content in one hour 26:05 The trap of trying to be everywhere and why LinkedIn is the primary focus 29:15 Where to start your brand strategy: obsessing over your target market 31:11 The "human sticker": how human connection is becoming the ultimate competitive edge 34:33 Expanding Ora Marketing to serve and support female founders 37:10 Henry David Thoreau and sucking the marrow out of life Key Insights & Takeaways Insight 1: Being the Face of Your Brand is Non-Negotiable Many highly successful entrepreneurs experience deep insecurity and imposter syndrome when it comes to putting themselves out there. However, the work no longer speaks for itself. In today's digital landscape, stepping up as the face of your company is one of the most effective ways to drive business growth and build trust. Insight 2: The "Human Sticker" is Your Ultimate Competitive Edge Just as "organic" or "non-GMO" labels signify premium quality in food, being distinctly human is becoming the new premium sticker in business. As candidates and companies grow increasingly frustrated by sterile AI interviews and automated resume filters, leaning into genuine human connection and expertise is the greatest advantage a professional can have. Insight 3: Strategy Starts with the Target Market's "Underneath Layer" Most businesses rush into building websites and logos without fully understanding who they are trying to reach. The first step to any successful strategy is diving deep into the ideal client profile. You must understand not just what they ask for on a surface level, but the underlying "why" behind their needs, so you can market to that deeper truth. Insight 4: You Don't Need to Be Everywhere Entrepreneurs often waste time and resources trying to figure out the algorithms of every new social media platform. The only question that matters is: Is your target market actively engaging and taking that platform seriously? For B2B businesses and recruiters, that platform is almost exclusively LinkedIn. If your audience isn't on a platform to do business, you shouldn't waste your energy there. Insight 5: Peer Engagement Doesn't Equal Client Conversion It is incredibly easy for recruiters and founders to generate engagement by talking to their peers or candidates. While high impressions feel good for the ego, they rarely convert into new business. Content must be strategically tailored to speak directly to the pain points of hiring managers and ideal clients, even if they are less likely to openly like or comment on the post. Insight 6: Consistency Overcomes Hesitancy Almost everyone is hesitant to record themselves on video, but the initial fear quickly dissipates after the first try. By utilizing a guided, interview-style recording process, business owners can capture an entire month's worth of strategic content in just one hour. This eliminates the feast-or-famine cycle of content creation and ensures consistent brand authority without burning out the founder. Some encounters leave you questioning what might be hiding just beyond the next ridgeline.A Washington researcher describes a logging road where a tree suddenly appeared across the path, strange markers led toward a hidden meadow, and wood knocks echoed through the forest. A lifelong hunter from Alberta shares enormous tracks, overwhelming odors, and a silent midnight shadow that lingered over a Boy Scout camp. In California, a dog trainer comes face to face with an enormous human-faced creature carrying a full-grown deer over its shoulder. An Illinois homeowner watches a towering figure stand over a neighbor's dog kennel while the entire neighborhood begins sharing similar stories. Then, a Texas family opens the door to years of astonishing encounters involving mysterious gifts, giant handprints, vocalizations, and repeated visits from what they believe is a family of Sasquatch living near their property. These are firsthand accounts from people who never expected to become part of the Bigfoot conversation. Listen with an open mind, study the details, and decide for yourself what was waiting in the woods.Resources: Eric's tiktok channel: https://www.tiktok.com/@erichjames77

The Draft Animal Power Field Days are coming right up from October 2-4, and horse farmers Becky Frye and Donn Hewes tell us how they farm cooperatively thanks to a connection made through the Draft Animal Power Network (DAPNet). In addition to telling us about the ways to learn about horse farming at the Field Days, Becky and Donn tell us what it's like to farm with horses. They both farm at Northland Sheep Farm, one of the oldest organic sheep dairies in the country which Donn and his wife Maryrose Livingston took over from the original owners. Becky Frye runs Horsetail Herb Farm, growing certified organic medicinal and culinary herbs and cut flowers on the same property. Donn and Becky tell us how they share the Suffolk Punch draft horses between the sheep farm's mostly hay-related tasks and the herb farm. We discuss the differences between working with horses and tractors, and how it's possible to run modern machinery like hay balers and motorized sprayers with horses. While camping alone near Fort Townsend Historical State Park, something massive approached his hidden campsite, circled his tent, responded with powerful vocalizations, and left behind physical evidence the following morning. The conversation also explores strange vocalizations, possible mimicry, wilderness survival, natural farming, faith, and the lifelong impact these experiences have had on Austin's search for answers.Locations featured include:• Floras Lake, Oregon• Port Orford, Oregon• Rogue River, Oregon• Discovery Bay, Washington• Port Townsend, Washington• Fort Townsend Historical State ParkIf you've ever wondered what it would be like to hear something enormous moving through the darkness just outside your tent, this is an episode you won't want to miss.
After 200 years of idolatry, God finally allowed the northern kingdom of Israel to be destroyed and the people carried off by Assyria. Meanwhile, the southern kingdom of Judah was being ruled the young, foolish, idolatrous King Ahaz. After being defeated in battle by the Aramean Kingdom of Damascus, Ahaz decided to worship the gods of Syria rather than turning to God for help. He also sacrificed his son to Molech in the Valley of Hinnom southwest of Jerusalem. Then he turned to the Assyrians for help against Israel, Syria, and Edom, cutting up fixtures in the Temple to send to Assyria as tribute. Needless to say, God was not pleased. Apparently, neither were the people of Judah. Ahaz was buried in the City of David rather than in the tombs of the kings of his forefathers. THE WORST outbreak of Ebola in history is underway in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Many will respond to that news with skepticism given the way we were propagandized during the COVID outbreak five years ago. But facts are facts: Nearly 1600 people have died thus far in the outbreak and it's spreading much faster than the 2014 outbreak in West Africa. The infection fatality rate is upwards of 40%. By comparison, COVID only had an IFR of about 0.2%. In addition, this particular strain of Ebola has an incubation period of up to three weeks. That means somebody who appears to be well could conceivably travel on an international flight and bring the virus to another continent. So, fear mongering in this case is probably justified. Speaking of fear, a robotics company called Satyress has announced a new robot that looks like a giant metallic praying mantis with the head of a goat. It is ostensibly intended for jobs too dangerous for humans, like search and rescue missions after a natural disaster. However, it looks like Baphomet with an extra set of legs. That begs the question: What in the world were the designers thinking? We also discuss the invasion of the Spanish enclave of Ceuta by 60,000 military age men from Morocco. This is a very bad look for the pro-immigration leaders of the European Union and progressive Democrats here in the United States. Video from Ceuta showing young Moroccan men looting stores, breaking into homes, and attacking Spanish citizens is like something from a horror film. Also: Mayor Mamdani promises his city-run grocery stores will sell groceries at 30% below average cost elsewhere. That math don't math. For over 52 years, Super Dave has experienced some of the most intense Sasquatch encounters imaginable. His journey began as a 12-year-old boy in the Saginaw Eddy Bottoms of Arkansas when he came face to face with an enormous hairy figure standing only a few feet away along the Ouachita River. It's PID Radio's Throwback Thursday. This week, we present a 2007 interview with researcher and author Kate Iola about America's vulnerability to disruption of our food supply through agricultural terror. Originally released June 3, 2007 OUR SUMMER “archive series” continues with an interview culled from Derek's radio program on The Eagle 93.9 (KSSZ-FM) in Columbia, Missouri. His guest on Friday, May 25, 2007 was agroterror expert Kate Iola. Kate has a master's degree in Molecular Pathology from the University of California-San Diego, and three issued patents. She started reporting on FMD (foot-and-mouth disease) in 1999. In 2000, she decided someone needed to tell the bizarre — and, unfortunately, true — story of the threat of FMD. Just as Sharon did with avian flu in The Armageddon Strain, Kate chose to spread the word about FMD with fiction. Her novel Deadstock is a chilling look at the ease with which America's agriculture industry could be brought to its knees. Derek and Kate also talked about the Department of Homeland Security's proposed new bioweapons lab, the National Bio and Agro Defense Facility (NBAF). Columbia is one of 17 contenders to host this BSL-4 laboratory, and Kate is raising a red flag. Placing a lab that studies FMD in the middle of America's beef and pork producing territory raises some serious security issues. Sharon's niece, Sarah Sachleben, is fighting stage 4 bowel cancer, and the medical bills are piling up. If you are led to help, please go to GilbertHouse.org/hopeforsarah. Follow us! There are two sources of inspiration for this week's interview: one was Rebecca Kutzer-Rice's article “Why and how we automated our flower greenhouses,” which you can read here. And the other is the 40hr Farmer live greenhouse coaching and video course, brought to you by Growing for Market and Orisha greenhouse automation (it's also free for all GFM subscribers by the way- get the code to register from the home page when you log in). Now, The 40hr Farmer is currently an in-depth look at greenhouse tomato growing, but in the future we are going to expand it to other crops. And since we know Rebecca knows about automating GH flower crops from her article, and that greenhouse flowers can be as profitable if not more so than greenhouse vegetables, we wanted to get her opinion on which flower crops would be most important to cover when we get to flowers. Listen to this interview to hear why Rebecca recommends ranunculus, snapdragons and lisianthus as some of the GH flower crops that might need their own courses, and why growers are so obsessed with their greenhouses. We also talk about the greenhouse set points for these crops, climate settings for reducing disease in flower crops in general, maximizing production, why sometimes it can actually be cheaper and more efficient to grow a crop hotter, and more.
