In this episode of The Inspire Podcast, Bart sits down with Alex Draper, founder and CEO of DX Learning, to tackle a critical issue in the workplace: toxic leadership. Alex starts with a simple truth—bad leadership is toxic and has negative impacts. So why does it persist when no one sets out to be a bad leader? Alex explains that most toxic leadership isn't intentional—it's unintentional, and it stems from a lack of self-awareness and training. He discusses how leaders need to provide Clarity, Autonomy, Relationships, and Equity (his CARE model) and shares how to begin fostering CARE-driven leadership through data gathering, practical steps, and clear ways to measure progress. Alex's insights are essential at a time when employees are demanding more from their leaders—and when the opportunity exists to lead in a way that truly inspires. In this episode of The Inspire Podcast, Bart speaks with Joe Manget, Walid Hejazi and Dany Assaf about their new book, Everybody's Business. The three authors, an accomplished business leader, a business school professor and renowned Competition lawyer and author of the bestseller Say Please and Thank You & Stand in Line, share how their research shows Canadian businesses are falling behind and why bold leadership is necessary to reverse the decline. They explain how leaders in all fields must embrace the power of technology, pursue competition on an international stage, recognize built-in monopolistic advantages may not last as long as they think, and above all take risks to energize their careers and companies. The conversation, hosted at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management, is an important listen for anyone who wants to build a great career -- or a great company. What's the most pressure you've ever been under?" For his latest book, The Power of Pressure, Third Factor's CEO Dane Jensen, asked this question to thousands of people, from Olympic athletes and Navy SEALS to over-worked managers and busy parents, and discovered that while each experience is unique, pressure has patterns. These patterns are somewhat counter-intuitive, but once we learn to recognize them we can learn to use the energy that accompanies pressure to thrive. In short, pressure can be a wind at our back instead of a weight on our shoulders. In this episode of the Inspire Podcast (recorded live on November 3, 2021) Bart interviews Dane about what it takes to perform in peak moments of pressure, and how to bring renewed energy to tackle the biggest sources of pressure in your life. 00:00 Teaser 00:20 Inspire Podcast intro 00:58 Welcome 01:38 What is the Inspire Podcast? 02:21 Niagara Institute & Third Factor 02:53 About Dane 03:28 Book: The Power of Pressure 04:27 The Magic Portal 04:38 What's the most pressure you've ever been under? 06:25 How did people answer that question? 06:54 Examples of pressure 09:39 Participants share their pressure moments 12:17 The experiences that people bring… 13:05 Collective experience of pressure 13:51 What do all these experiences share? 15:24 Dane's research into pressure 16:12 Pressure is a double-edged sword 17:23 The pressure equation: Importance 17:56 The pressure equation part 2: Uncertainty 20:19 The modern world – volume of important/uncertain moments 22:10 Pressure of the grind 24:30 How to manage these elements 25:22 Difference between peak performance and the grind 26:37 The path to importance 27:04 Growth, Contribution and Connection 28:24 Peak pressure – disconnect a bit 28:52 The duality of importance 30:19 Focus on what's not important during performance 30:47 Uncertainty 36:02 What can leaders do to help people with stress? 37:25 Create certainty around process not outcome 40:34 Group Q&A 41:04 Volume 42:33 Time management is a trap 47:35 How does this understanding or pressure change what leaders need to think about? 48:29 Leaders need to shape pressure to be effective 51:45 Thank yous
How does creativity heal trauma? Aunia had no voice. Surviving in a home heavy in generational trauma she felt completely unseen and unheard. Trauma at home and trauma at school. There was very little light or shade. Deep in trauma Aunia attempted to take her own life. By her twenties Aunia was living with an undiagnosed chronic illness. Forced to give up study she turned to art to get her through. To work through the trauma. To make sense of it all. Unable to come into contact with her beloved paint and pencils due to her illness she turned to digital art and flourished. And there were so many co-incidences in who she met and where her art took her that you can see the deep purpose in this journey. Our trauma is so often the link to our purpose and when you see all the things that Aunia is doing in the world it is so obvious this is what she came here to do. To bring beauty to the world and teach others how to heal through art and creativity and colour. Aunia Kahn is a multi-faceted creative entrepreneur and a globally awarded, collected, and exhibited artist/photographer, graphic/web designer, the host of the Create & Inspire Podcast, a published author, as well as a teacher and an inspirational speaker. For years her art was based on survival. Now, entering another phase of her life, her work has transitioned into a narrative of personal evolution and highlights how grateful she is to still be alive. Aunia is teaching us how to heal through art. Please come and hear what she has to say. You can find Aunia's art and courses at https://auniakahn.com/ and on instagram https://www.instagram.com/auniakahn/ If you have a story to share for this podcast please connect with me at www.instagram.com/mybigloveproject or send an email to bigloveproject@iinet.net.au. My guest today is a lively and daring ballerina. We first crossed paths in New York City where we both studied ballet under the legendary Gelsey Kirkland. I was training full time as an Academy student and she was performing with the Gelsey Kirkland Ballet company. Today, she calls Paris her home and has established her performing career touring with numerous french ballet companies. She is both a student and teacher of the Boris Kniaseff floor barre method, a sequence of exercises where ballet movements have been adapted to be practiced lying on the floor. Her journey from NYC to Paris is as unique as her name, India Rose. I'm delighted to have her as the first guest on the Dance to Inspire Podcast. 0:00 About our guest India Rose 0:53 Getting coached by Gelsey Kirkland 2:52 Moving from NYC to Paris 5:10 Cross training methods 7:50 Teaching floor barre 14:19 New way of approaching ballet technique 17:54 Body image 21:39 Dance injury prevention 24:14 French aesthetic of ballet 26:39 Performing in France 29:18 Advice to aspiring dancers 31:21 Top 3 must visit places in NYC and Paris Connect with India Rose Instagram @indiamrose Website momentarylocal.com Dance to Inspire Podcast Podcast host @MimidiLuna Website mimidiluna.wixsite.com/website
