The founder can then focus on new product development, building out the next ten products, and expanding the brand into new regions. South Col is committed to the outcome and sees upside when the founder does. Aggregator Business Model Issues Yoni Kozminski was approached by many aggregators and brokers who wanted to buy e-commerce businesses. However, he did not feel good about this because the brokers' goal is to buy the brand at the lowest price, which conflicts with the owner's aim of getting the highest price. Growing a Business to Sell : Lessons from the Aggregators' Tales It is hard to scale any business at speed, and this is never wise. Spreadsheet jockeys saw the immense demand for aggregators and drove up multiples from 1.5x to 7-9x EBITDA. There was a lot of market confidence in early 2020, and the pandemic's duration impacted it significantly. Entrepreneurs' decisions are affected by the venture capital model, where they are there to force the outcome, but only 1 in 10 or 1 in 20 will succeed. South Col is a possible alternative for those considering taking on VC. Why Sell an E-commerce Business? The business model affects the decision to sell. In a service business, you can typically build healthy margins once you get to critical mass, yielding around 300K a year for you and being independent of you. Amazon is bringing out new tools this year to help Brands (only accessible to brand registered 3rd party sellers) with Insights on Search Performance of Their Products. On Thursdays with Sharon today Sharon introduces the new Search Catalog Performance Dashboard which is currently available for all Brand Registered Sellers from the Brand Analytics Dashboard, and also touches on a not yet released dashboard called "Query Performance Dashboard" which should be launched within the coming months. Here is what Amazon says about the dashboard: The new Search Analytics Dashboard will include the Search Catalog and Query Performance dashboards: The Search Catalog Performance Dashboard (out now in beta) will help brands understand their sales funnel at the product level. Sellers will be able to use this tool to quickly identify conversion issues or drop-off points where they lose customer attention. The dashboard will also help sellers analyze the price competitiveness of their products and optimize their marketing investments and inventory planning. The Query Performance Dashboard (not yet released) will help sellers understand top search terms that are associated with their products. Before starting Escala and MultiplyMii, Yoni expanded an Amazon business from two million to five million dollars in sales in just 12 months before it was sold. The expansion success was based on his ability to create process improvement alongside his team. From there, he created his current companies with a focus on helping other entrepreneurs grow their teams and create efficient processes to scale their businesses. In this episode… Having spent many years building successful businesses, Yoni Kozminski learned that having a skilled team is key for the efficient execution of a company's goals. As a manager, he learned how to build the right company structures to support the businesses he was managing and discovered the right strategies to use to help the companies operate more effectively. Similar to architecture, Yoni also learned that a successful entrepreneur needs to be creative and organized. You have to dig deep into your business operations, find out where your team is struggling, and work on fixing and optimizing those areas. What do some of those strategies look like? Yoni says you should build an organizational chart clearly indicating the chain of command and each team member's responsibilities within the organization. You also need to create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training videos for your employees to make the learning and transition process easier for employees. My guest today is Yoni Kozminski. Yoni is CEO and Founder of Escala which is an ecommerce improvement agency and MultiplyMii which is a white-glove ecommerce staffing agency. Since January 2020, MultiplyMii & Escala have grown from a team of 4 to over 130 people on payroll supporting more than 75 businesses that are responsible for more than 500M+ in annual revenue. Yoni has spent a decade in digital marketing & creative advertising globally including places like Australia, Los Angeles, and Tel Aviv developing a digital strategy for the likes of Mercedez- Benz, Mastercard, Sony, Medtronic, and many 8-figure eCommerce brands.
