We are back! Sorry for the gaps. Our new shop makes us very busy these days! But we have something rare and special. A wine from the Picos de Europa mountains in Cantabria. Vino de la Tierra de Liébana! Angel Moreno's Mencía from the peaks. Weird right? Mountain wine, but is it fine? We'll see.

Menudo Castillo 645 Esta semana hemos tenido radio escolar y ballet en Menudo Castillo. No han sido los únicos temas, porque también hemos aprovechado para hablar de baloncesto, ninjas y cine del divertido. Ha sido el último capítulo de esta temporada desde el CEIP Hermanos García-Noblejas, por eso quisimos hacer un capitulazo (tanto que, como siempre, se nos hizo tarde). ¿Y cómo pudimos mezclar radio escolar y ballet en Menudo Castillo? Fue más sencillo de lo creéis. Ya sabéis que vamos encontrando amigos y asuntos interesantes por todos los rincones y en esta ocasión hemos disfrutado a lo bestia de dos temas de lo más apetecibles, cada uno por una cosa. Primero la Radio Escolar. Sabéis que somos unos amantes de la radio y unos grandes defensores de que tiene que estar en casi cualquier parte y en los colegios, mucho más. Por eso hemos querido invitar a Jesús Ángel Pindado y a Francisco Valero, que se han tomado su apuesta por la radio escolar tan en serio que quieren que llegue muy muy lejos. Para eso han escrito Radio Escolar desde dentro, un manual con el que ayudar desde los primeros pasos a todos esos profes y centros educativos que quieren poner en marcha un proyecto de radio escolar. No solo eso, también unas cartas, unas entrevistas alucinantes y muchas cosas más de lo más interesantes. Nos cuentan algunas en este programa, entrevistados por Daniela, Óscar y Helena. Pero ya os hemos dicho que en este programa de radio escolar y ballet en Menudo Castillo hay todavía más cosas por descubrir. Y es verdad. Tuvimos una charla entre Noah, Marcos y Alberto Casamayor sobre Canastones, una colección divertidísima dedicada al baloncesto. Alberto es también el creador de Ninjas por la cara, una serie de cómics con la que lo vais a pasar muy bien (y que me ha recordado en algunos momentos al espíritu del Diario de Greg, porque su prota es un poco... sí, un poco pringui). Y tuvimos también en este programa a la estupenda Eva María Llorente, que nos acompañó con su colección Mis primeros pasos de ballet, una serie de dos títulos con la que podréis aprender mucho sobre el ballet y sobre todos los pasos que se dan para ir construyendo un lenguaje secreto que solo conoceréis los que lo disfrutéis de verdad. Con ella estuvieron Julia, Amelia, Lucas y su hija, Mencía. Miguel, Pablo, Nico y Amelia, además, nos hablaron de cine. Menudo programón.

Tal día como hoy,  el 5 de marzo pero de 1923, nació en Sestao Juan Jose Mencía Angulo, defensa del Atlético de Madrid entre 1944 y 1955. Disputó un total de 151 partidos oficiales con la rojiblanca, siendo 2 veces campeón de Liga y 1 de la Copa Eva Duarte, torneo que fue el precursor de la Supercopa de España. Como curiosidad, Mencía, nombre con el que se le conocía, fue caballero de la orden Civil de Beneficencia, cuando se retiró en su partido de homenaje contra el NewCastle, donó toda la recaudación del partido al Asilo de Ancianos de Rebonza y a la construcción de una Guardería en Rebonza. En el campeonato nacional de Liga, el sábado en partido disputado a las 21:00 El Atleti obtuvo 3 puntos importantísimos al lograr la victoria por 1-0, ante el al Athletic Club de Bilbao en el Metropolitano.  Seguimos a 1 punto del Barça, líder de la Liga, pero tras la derrota del R.Madrid ahora estamos en segunda posición con 2 puntos de ventaja sobre ellos. El próximo compromiso liguero será el domingo día 9 de marzo a las 14:00, nuevo derbi contra el Getafe en el Coliseum, antiguamente Alfonso Pérez, no ocultan sus preferencias. El martes en el partido de ida de los octavos de la Champions League, disputado en el Bernabéu, perdimos por 2-1. La eliminatoria está viva, pero nos dieron 2 puñetazos en el estómago. La vuelta será el próximo miércoles a las 21 horas en el Metropolitano y, ahí, tenemos que poner toda la carne en el asador desde la grada para remontar la eliminatoria. Tenemos que hacer que el estadio sea igual o mejor que el último partido de Champions del Calderón, rememorar esa noche histórica, pero con mejor resultado. Dr. Lynn M. Brinckmeyer recently retired as Professor of Music, Associate Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication and Director of Choral Music Education at Texas State University. During 2006-2008 she served as President for The National Association for Music Education (formerly MENC). Other past offices include: President for the Northwest Division of MENC, Music Educators Journal Editorial Board, and Washington Music Educators Association General Music Curriculum Chair. In addition to chairing the Eastern Washington University Music Department for six years and conducting the EWU Concert Choir, Dr. Brinckmeyer received the Washington Music Educators Association Hall of Fame, the MENC Northwest Division Distinguished Service Award and she was designated a Lowell Mason Fellow for outstanding contributions to the field of music education.Dr. Brinckmeyer's research initiatives continue to focus on developing young voices, music from across the globe and music advocacy. She published five books: Wander the USA with Warm-Ups!, The Wonder of Music with John Jacobson, Rhythm Rescue!, Wander the World with Warm-ups with Hal Leonard Publishing and Advocate for Music with Oxford University Press. In Washington she conducted the Eastern Washington University Girls' Chorus and the South Hill Children's Chorus. During her time at Texas State University Dr. Brinckmeyer was a co-founder/Artistic Director of the Hill Country Youth Chorus.Dr. Brinckmeyer's degrees include a Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Music Education from Eastern New Mexico University, and a Ph.D. in Music Education from The University of Kansas. Ejercicio muy interesante para hoy: ¿Cuántas veces etiquetas al perro? Qué bueno, qué malo, qué cabezón, qué pesado, qué glotón… ¿Cuáles son las etiquetas que más recibes tú? Si tu perro está etiquetado como cabezón ¿esto limita las ganas que tienes de educarle y hacerle entender las cosas? Entonces esa etiqueta le perjudica al perro. Si piensas que tu perro es agresivo: ¿quiere decir que no puede ser nunca más de otra manera? Esto sería perjudicial para el perro y para ti porque no intentarías educarle bien. Profecía autocumplida: Actuar como indica esa etiqueta lo cual fomenta que seas así y no de otra manera. Como si no pudiera cambiar, tiene que ser así toda la vida. Ejemplo: Si un perro está etiquetado como miedoso, el humano ya se tensa cuando viene un perro, retrocede con él par atrás y esto empeora su miedo. Mejor sería pensar “mi perro tiene comportamientos miedosos o agresivos” voy a aprender a enseñarle a dejar de ser así poco a poco, vamos a darle otra alternativa al perro, eduquémosle. José María Ruiz Vargas (Doña Mencía, Córdoba, 1946) es catedrático emérito de Psicología de la Memoria en la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, donde imparte esa materia y otras afines desde 1974. Desde que realizó su tesis doctoral sobre memoria y esquizofrenia, su labor investigadora ha estado centrada en cómo funciona la memoria en personas con y sin alteraciones neuropsicológicas. Es autor de obras académicas como Psicología de la memoria, La memoria humana. Función y estructura y Manual de psicología de la memoria. Acaba de publicar un ensayo fascinante para un público no académico que condensa sus investigaciones sobre la memoria: Se titula La memoria y la vida, publicado por la editorial Debate.

Rick Sanchez welcomes his old friend, comedian Carlos Mencía to the show, and they cover a variety of Latino truths and topics. From the negative stereotypes in Hollywood to being excluded from the national conversation, and even to the lack of Latino Superheroes. Mencía is very forthcoming and honest about the joke-stealing scandal that rocked, and almost ended his career 16 years ago and how he struggled and fought to overcome it. Sanchez and Mencía conclude that Latinos always seem to land on their feet after setbacks like this because it is a part of their DNA to have to fight and work hard for everything they have.   RSN_S1_E0030

Brinckmeyer is Professor of Music, Associate Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication and Director of Choral Music Education at Texas State University. During 2006-2008 she served as President for The National Association for Music Education (formerly MENC). Other past offices include: President for the Northwest Division of MENC, Music Educators Journal Editorial Board, and Washington Music Educators Association General Music Curriculum Chair. In addition to chairing the Eastern Washington University Music Department for six years and conducting the EWU Concert Choir, Dr. Brinckmeyer received the Washington Music Educators Association Hall of Fame, the MENC Northwest Division Distinguished Service Award and Eastern New Mexico University's Outstanding Alumni Award.Dr. Brinckmeyer's research initiatives focus on developing young voices, music from across the globe and music advocacy. She recently published Wander the USA with Warm-Ups! Other books include: The Wonder of Music with John Jacobson, Rhythm Rescue!, Wander the World with Warm-ups with Hal Leonard Publishing and Advocate for Music with Oxford University Press. She founded the Eastern Washington University Girls' Chorus while teaching at EWU. She also served as Artistic Director for the South Hill Children's Chorus in Spokane, Washington. Dr. Brinckmeyer is a co-founder and Artistic Director for the Hill Country Youth Chorus in San Marcos, Texas.Dr. Brinckmeyer's degrees include a Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Music Education from Eastern New Mexico University, and a Ph.D. in Music Education from The University of Kansas. In New Mexico she taught elementary music and middle school choir, then moved to higher education in the Pacific Northwest. At Texas State University Dr. Brinckmeyer teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in choral music education, and she directs the Texas State treble ensemble, Aurora Voce. Each summer Dr. Brinckmeyer serves as a long time staff member for the World Music Drumming workhsops. Originally from Cherokee, North Carolina, Mr. Lambert attended Western Carolina University to obtain his Bachelors Degree in music education and then the University of Massachusetts to receive a graduate assistantship and a Masters of Music Degree in saxophone performance.From 2001 until 2013, Mr. Lambert was the assistant band director at Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois where he enjoyed great success in both the marching and concert arena. The marching band was a consistent finalist at the Bands of America Grand National Championships and a repeat winner of the 2A National Championship. At the state level, the band continued its winning streak as the Class Champion for the State of Illinois Marching Band Championship begun in 1980. Under his direction, the Concert Band at Marian found great success in performance assessment: consistently receiving superior ratings and being named overall champion at The State of the Art Catholic Concert Band Festival, and class champion at The Illinois State University Concert Competition and The University of Illinois Superstate Concert Festival.In 2005, he founded the school-wide leadership program at Marian, designing the curriculum and coordinating its implementation to over 1200 students with over 50 faculty members. Drawn from the world of business, finance, and psychology, the Leadership Program curriculum gives every student practical experience with communication skills, group dynamics, and ethical leadership.Since 1997, Mr. Lambert has directed student leadership camps around the country. In 2013, Mr. Lambert headed the inaugural Bands of America Drum Major Institute at Ball State University as part of the BOA Summer Symposium. This contemporary camp brings the most experienced staff and the latest information to student leaders from across the country. Over 1000 high school students participate in various leadership programs with Mr. Lambert each summer.In addition to serving as consultant with several programs across the country, Mr. Lambert has worked with the All-American Marching Band sponsored by the U.S. Army and the Bands of America Tournament of Roses Marching Band. He has also served as guest conductor for honor bands in Virginia and Illinois.Mr. Lambert's professional affiliations include MENC and Phi Mu Alpha. He has been honored with an induction to the Marian Catholic Fine Arts Hall of Fame in 2013 and voted a Chicagoland Outstanding Music Educator in 2009. He now lives in South Carolina with his wife Alysia, who is a choral director and their daughters, Maria Katherine and Olivia Claire.
