What's this? A messy love quadrangle?  You know Kelly and Ragon are all over that!  We channel our best Normal Gossip podcast inspiration and dive into our discussion of the self-sabotaging lovers of Rainbow Valley!  We ask such questions as “What's Ellen's deal anyway?”  And “Wait, do we agree with Norman Douglas?” And most importantly “Who should we cast in our movie version of this story?”   On a more serious note, if you'd like to help Kelly rebuild after losing her home in the terrible Eaton fire, we have a fundraiser to support her as she begins the overwhelming task of recovering.  And if you would like to help Los Angeles recover from the horrific wildfires, here are some places that are doing good work: World Central Kitchen is feeding people on the ground in Los Angeles. LA County Fire Department is doing heroic work and we aren't done with the fires. Pasadena Humane Society is caring for the wild animals and pets lost or injured in the fire. Baby2Baby provides disaster relief to families and children in poverty impacted by the fires. Give Directly is fundraising to provide direct cash support to those in most need after the fire for shelter, food, clothing. Inspired by: This whole episode was inspired by one of our favorite podcasts Normal Gossip. Kelly was inspired by the 1995 Persuasion adaptation and the miniseries based on Elizabeth Gaskell's  North and South. Ragon was inspired by the classic rom-com While You Were Sleeping and the time travel romance in About Time .  If you want to get a free logo sticker from us, either leave us a review on Apple Podcasts or share your love for the pod on social media!  Send us a photo of your share or review at either our email: kindredspirits.bookclub@gmail.com or on our KindredSpirits.BookClub Instagram.

Ours to Protect is a unique and exciting audio project – a collaboration of local and regional broadcasters from across the country who have come together to tackle climate change, champion climate action, and inform and educate audiences all over Ireland about how they can make a difference. Today on ‘Ours To Protect' John Morley talks to Michael Curran, their Head of Building Services, Energy and Utilities at the University of Galway about their Carbon Pledge.   Did you know… University of Galway's famous Quadrangle has played host to symbolic ton of carbon. The giant cube was installed to coincide with Ireland's second Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Week will took place from September 23, and the wider European Sustainable Development Week which ran from September 18 to October 8 The installation was designed to help staff and students and the wider University community and visitors to visualise the physical size of 1 tonne of carbon. Targets have already published in the University of Galway Climate Action Roadmap 2030 for the institution to cut energy related greenhouse gas emissions by 51% by 2030 (against a baseline of 2016‐2018 average emissions). As part of the action plan, University of Galway will hold a sustainability assembly in January 2024 following which proposals will be determined to assist in the journey towards energy use reduction.   Why so the Carbon Pledge so important? It shows corporate responsibility and commitment to addressing climate change. It can lead to cost savings through energy efficiency measures and resource optimization. It enhances brand reputation and attracts environmentally conscious customers. It fosters innovation and encourages the development of sustainable business practices. It helps companies stay ahead of regulatory changes and adapt to a low-carbon future.   What can I do to help support institutions to achieve their Carbon Pledge? Practice energy conservation in the workplace and at home. Support companies that prioritize sustainability and eco-friendly practices. Opt for greener transportation options, like carpooling or using public transit. Choose products and services from companies with lower carbon footprints. Advocate for sustainable practices within the company and in the community.     Here's a few websites if you want to know more! In Red Bay right now, the snow is so deep it's a job to keep your house from being buried. Farther north, in Nain, they haven't experienced a winter so cold in decades, as Rex Holwell explained. Many meetings and conversations are being held this week regarding the Health Accord's final report. M.H.A. Perry Trimper met with the task force's Co-chairs yesterday. He joined us today to tell us what he thought of the report. Russia has been bombing areas in Ukraine while simultaneously advancing troops throughout the country, since yesterday. We heard from a Ukrainian man living in Newfoundland and Labrador about how he is feeling with the attacks. Tonight Quadrangle NL is hosting a Community Outreach Session for Northern Labrador. To learn more about the group and what their hopes are for these sessions, reporter Regan Burden spoke to the Executive Director of Quadrangle, Charlie Murphy. People who rely on the Strait of Belle Isle ferry service will have a big schedule change to adjust to. Captain Austin Daley is the General Manager of Labrador Marine, and he spoke to why this change is happening. Our T.V. and movie reviewer Wayne Walsh shared his selections with us, for this week. A kind heart. That's how a teacher remembers the late Grace Voisey. Cindy Giffen spoke with Labrador Morning about how the impact Grace had on others has been far reaching across this province. Fireplace sessions have been ongoing since the pandemic began, but now, they might be coming to an end. We chatted with Kirk Lethbridge about this valuable musical series.

That’s the sound being heard more across campus often as student anticipation grows for the annual Duck Day, in which students are dismissed from classes to enjoy the campus, the formal opening of the Lake, organized games, and just generally enjoying the springtime. Duck Day – along with another McCallie springtime tradition, the senior prank – is the topic of this edition of Stories from the Ridge. In early April 2021, Assistant Head of School Kenny Sholl sat in the Quadrangle with Upper School Principal Hank Hopping, Vice President of Advancement Steve Hearn ’74, and Dean of Admission Jim Daughdrill ’05 to share stories and laughs about Duck Day and senior pranks over the years. If you have a Duck Day or senior prank story you would like to share, please let us know. We’ll even try to record as many as possible (provided they are fit for a general audience) for a follow-up podcast. If you have a story to share with fellow alumni and faculty about past Duck Days and senior pranks, all you need to do is give us a call at 423-493-5019, and when prompted, simply record your message, being sure to give your name, class year, and a phone number where we can reach you. Or, if you prefer, simply send us a note at info@mccallie.org and we’ll contact you to arrange a time to record your story. We’ll save all the stories in our archives and possibly will gather some for a follow-up podcast. But remember: our attorneys tell us that the statute of limitations does not apply to senior pranks, so you might be required to return to campus to face the Disciplinary Committee.

Have you ever wanted to own an English pub but couldn't afford the investment? Well 167 investors have bought shares in a pub in the Yorkshire dales and can now say that they part own the King's Head pub in Swaledale. Gunnerside's popular pub has had a chequered history and in this episode Susan talks with Tracey Westgarth about the process the local community went through to turn their village pub into a community owned one. The King's head is now tenant run and community owned but faces the challenges all public houses face at this present time during lockdown. The purchase process began last September and the community support has been tremendous. Shares were released in February 2020 and within 5 days the share offer was oversubscribed, and now has a waiting list in reserve. At a time when all pubs are closed the enthusiasm of the committee has ensured that the purchase still went ahead in order to secure the deal.  Advice and support was enlisted from the Plunkett Foundation who were involved from the start of the project. Also the team from The George and Dragon in Hudswell, a hugely successful local community owned pub, were happy to share their experience and advise the commitee on how to proceed with managing their membership. The next step forward is to proceed with repairs whilst awaiting government permission to reopen,  and we look forward to a big party when that happens. Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing the Wilpons outdoing themselves and torpedoing another potential sale of the team. (timestamp) Next, we talk about a mish mash of topics that we felt were all worthy of discussion. First was death of Kobe Bryant, the complicated legacy he leaves behind, the press coverage, and the rush to be first instead of accurate. We then move on to Kris Bryant losing his grievance against service time manipulation and what the ramifications could be of that decision. Here at The University of Sydney our tour starts at the centre of the quadrangle in the heart of the University. View the images in this podcast  https://eattmag.com/straight-from-the-heart-of-australias-leading-higher-education-university/ Where Fran Keeling joins him an archaeologist teaching archeology and ancient history here at The University of Sydney. Fran's area of expertise is ancient Greece and Rome and their neighbours. We begin our tour in the centre of the Quadrangle, a prominent building made of Sydney sandstone located within the University of Sydney Camperdown Campus. In today's podcast, Fran guides a fantastic and insightful tour of her unique views from inside the very soul of the university. The University of Sydney is well known for challenging traditions for more than 160 years, and Fran sheds light onto some of the firm traditions on which The University of Sydney is built and how many of these ideas are reflected throughout the architecture and The Quadrangle development. The original building included the Great Hall and was constructed between 1855 and 1862. Construction on the Quadrangle began in 1854, and it had four sides by 1926. The University of Sydney is regarded as one of the world's leading universities Australia's first university was founded in 1850. The stories revealed throughout the podcast here at the oldest university in Australia, are often linked to the design of the building from the architects and craftspeople who carefully made them reflect some of the views and trends at the time. These include areas and architecture that harks back to a sort of Gothic style, reflecting some of the thinking at the time that surrounded much of British scholarship. The building grew up in lots of different stages, each adding to the story. The Quadrangle also includes the Great Hall, wherein part two of the interview we explore in more intricate detail and hidden tales from various aspects of its magnificent features. Here we discover some of the narrative carved and woven into the very fabric of its creation within the Great Hall in part two of our podcast series from here in the The The quadrangle at The University of Sydney. Sex-scene loops. 2003 hotties straight-out-"The OC"- More porn. Some of the best lines in film I have ever heard. One of the strangest 'love triangles' (Quadrangle????) I have ever bore witness to. It was rather weird. And coming from me that says a lot. Stay tuned for part II of this epic.
