If you watched the Oscars and the event's afterparties Sunday night, chances are you saw a Métier handbag. The brand's clutches were seen all over the red carpets, carried by stars from Kaia Germer to Amy Poehler to Anna Sawai. And it wasn't the first time star fans of the brand earned Métier attention. As the brand's founder and designer, Melissa Morris, pointed out on this week's episode of the Glossy Podcast, sightings of Kate Middleton, Nicole Kidman and various “Succession” characters carrying the brand have “made a big impact” on the business since its launch in 2017. Also on the podcast, Morris discusses her strategies for launching a brand with luxury price points out of the gate and building the brand in the U.K. post-Brexit. In addition, she talks about Métier's U.S. expansion plans, which include a NYC store and more awareness plays via A-listers.

It was another big night for "Shogun" during the main event of the 76th annual Emmy Awards. The program set a single season record for most wins with 18, including best drama series and acting awards for Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai. "The Bear" also had a big night with four awards, but was snubbed for best comedy as "Hacks" took that honor. As co-host Bruce Miller mentioned, there has been discussion among insiders that "The Bear" should be a drama, not a comedy. "Baby Reindeer" also wone four awards in the limited series category. Miller and co-host Terry Lipshetz share their thoughts, and also look ahead to the future: Can "Shogun" sustain success in a second season? Will "The Bear" become move to the drama category? Can a show like "Only Murders in the Building" finally break out in the comedy category? And, looking even further ahead, is the new limited series "American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez" an early favorite for an Emmy next year? The show debuted this week and looks at the troubled life of the NFL tight end. Contact us! We want to hear from you! (AP) — Former President Donald Trump is safe following what the FBI says “appears to be an attempted assassination” in Florida after another attempt on his life at a rally in Pennsylvania. Local authorities say the U.S. Secret Service agents protecting Trump fired at a man pointing an AK-style rifle with a scope as Trump was playing on his golf course in West Palm Beach. Law enforcement officials have identified the man as Ryan Wesley Routh. He was arrested in a neighboring county within minutes of authorities putting out a “very urgent" alert detailing his vehicle, license plate number and description of him. Palestinian officials say Israeli airstrikes have killed 16 people in the Gaza Strip, including five women and four children. “Shogun” won best drama series in a record-setting year, while “Hacks” was the surprise winner of best comedy series at the Emmy Awards. “Shogun” took best actor and best actress Sunday, as stars Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada became the first Japanese actors to win Emmys. Overall the show won 18 Emmys, a record for a single season. “The Bear” won four including best actor for Jeremy Allen White. But it was upset for best comedy by “Hacks,” which also won best comedy actress for Jean Smart. “Baby Reindeer” won four times including two Emmys for creator and star Richard Gadd. Shogun 1980 pulls an interesting detail from the book, both Mariko and Blackthorne communicate in Latin. Though the 2024 adaptation was superior, one thing it will NEVER have is John Rhys-Davies pitching a fit! The differences in Mariko's portrayal in 1980 by Yoko Shimada and the 2024 version by Anna Sawai are evident. Get the dish on the good and the goofy in Shogun 1980. It's a slick episode of Shogun. Mariko, played by Anna Sawai, has been a stand out character since the pilot. In this episode she unleashes her full power and charges full steam ahead into battle. Yabushige is just as psychotic and humorous as before. Would he make a last minute “conversion” to save his own skin? It might be the laugh Jim and A.Ron need after this episode. FX's long awaited and well promoted adaptation of Shōgun is finally out. Taking us into the tumultuous world of 1600 Japan, the series opens against the backdrop of European religious wars. John Blackthorne, an English navigator who finds himself and his crew imprisoned upon their arrival in Japan. With Spain and Portugal dominating foreign relations, Blackthorne ends up holding unexpected significance in the local power dynamics. Amidst the political fragmentation, the fate of Lord Toranaga, a vulnerable yet cunning regent, becomes inexplicably linked to Blackthorne's presence. The adaptation skillfully condenses the epic narrative of the novel. Notable performances include Hiroyuki Sanada as Lord Toranaga, Cosmo Jarvis as Blackthorne, and Anna Sawai as Toda Mariko. With a mix of historical depth and character-driven drama, we spend the podcast discussing plot, comparisons, and the reception. Tune in and enjoy!

Tory Tunnell's original dream was to the Editor for Vogue. In college, she interned at places like The New Yorker and Harper's Bizarre, but she minored in Film, which started a trek to working as a Producer. These days, Tunnell is known for Holy Rollers, My Blind Brother, King Arthur - Legend of the Sword, Underground, Robin Hood, Spinning Out, and now Monarch - Legacy of Monsters. The latest series stars Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Anders Holm, Kiersey Clemons, and Ren Watabe. The plot reads, "Set after the battle between Godzilla and the Titans, revealing that monsters are real, follows one family's journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to Monarch.” In this interview, Tory talks about the mechanism of film both in terms of creativity and commerce, jumping in the deep with little to no experience, how she cold called billionaires, misdirects in any career path, being persistent yet not annoying, sticking with a project until it gets made, and how to actually make money in this business. We also mention Tory's husband and producing partner, Joby Harold, which I interviewed back in Episode 348 for Obi-Wan Kenobi and Misha Green, the showrunner for Underground back in Episode 03.
